How to put a wooden toilet. How to make a toilet in the country: step by step instructions, dimensions

Wherever a person lives, he tries to equip his habitat as comfortably as possible. Therefore, the first structure erected at a summer cottage is a toilet. It is difficult to live even one day without this building outside the city. To build it, you can hire specialists or do the work yourself. But even if you decide to make a toilet in the country with your own hands, you cannot do without theoretical knowledge. So we will find out what needs to be done to build the much-needed structure.

Where to place the structure?

Before the construction of the toilet, the place for its construction is determined. The remoteness of the toilet from other buildings depends on its design. Or rather, whether it will be a building with or without a cesspool.

What type of toilet to choose is decided not only taking into account preferences, but also taking into account the location of groundwater. If they are located above the 2.5 meter mark, the construction of a cesspool is prohibited. In such cases, a powder closet is built.

When choosing a place to build, do not forget that this is a place of seclusion. Therefore, it is advisable to take him a corner away from the buildings.

When constructing a toilet with a cesspool, observe the sanitary standards for such structures. The toilet should be located at least 12 meters away from residential buildings. The distance from it to the water source is at least 20 meters. In order to avoid misunderstandings with neighbors, we are building a toilet in the country, having moved one and a half meters from the fence.

When planning the construction of a country toilet with a cesspool, think about how a sewage truck will drive up to it later. The length of the sewage pumping hose is only 7 meters. Moreover, 3 of them will be located in the pit.

Also consider the landscape of the site. a toilet built in the lowlands will fill up quickly during the rainy season and spring snowmelt. And the building on a hill is blown from all sides by the wind.

Varieties of cesspools

Depending on the penetration of sewage into the ground, cesspools are: with a filter bottom and sealed. The construction and operation of a sealed structure will be more expensive. This is due not only to consumables, but also to more frequent cleaning and calling the sewer truck. Waste on a pit with a filter bottom is less noticeable, but there is a possibility of contamination of the surrounding area. In addition, such structures are prohibited by sanitary standards.

You can build the walls of the cesspool from different materials. Depending on this, they are:

  • brick;
  • plastic;
  • from concrete rings;
  • monolithic.

Let's take a closer look at each of them.

We lay out a pit made of brick

Option # 1 - sealed construction

Having decided on the construction site of the toilet, they clear the marked area. They dig a rectangular pit according to the required dimensions. The larger it is, the less often you need to clean the toilet from impurities. Then the soil is tamped at the bottom. A layer of sand (10-15 cm) is poured and a concrete base is made. The use of reinforcement and filler will not interfere, crushed stone is possible. After the concrete hardens, the walls of the structure are laid out and plastered. For better sealing, they are treated with bituminous mastic. The walls of the cesspool make ten centimeters above the surface of the earth.

After laying bricks for the cesspool, the walls of the structure must be plastered and covered with bituminous mastic.

Option # 2 - filter bottom design

For such a cesspool, the bottom is not made tight. To do this, a layer of pebbles or large rubble is poured over the sand. Thanks to this filter, liquid waste seeps into the ground. This reduces the total mass of sewage, which increases the time until the pit is cleaned.

It is advisable to make cesspools with a filtering bottom only in those places where the soil water is very deep.

Using plastic containers

Plastic barrels or eurocubes can be used as a waste accumulator for cesspools. They are buried in a hole under the toilet. For a sealed structure, only the upper part of the container is cut off, where the waste will go. For a non-sealed pit, the lower part is also cut out. At the same time, a filter layer is poured onto the bottom of the cesspool.

So that the soil does not displace plastic containers, they need to be fixed with anchor weights.

Concrete ring design option

Now let's figure out how to install a toilet in the country using concrete rings. Due to the fact that reinforced concrete products can move during use, it is difficult to make such a structure airtight. Therefore, it is advisable to use it only in places with deep groundwater. The construction of a cesspool from reinforced concrete products is a laborious process. To facilitate it, use a special technique.

Due to the large weight of concrete rings, special equipment will be required for their installation.

After choosing and clearing a place for a building, they dig a hole according to the size of the ring. They lower the first ring and start digging in the earth from under its base. Thus, there is a gradual lowering of the rings under their own weight. When there is enough space, install the second ring on the first. Thus, they continue to dig and install the required number of rings. At the bottom of the pit, either a concrete screed or a filter layer is made.

The top of the last installed concrete ring should protrude ten centimeters above the ground.

You can find step-by-step instructions for installing a cesspool made of concrete rings in our next material:.

Monolithic concrete structure for toilet

For a cesspool made of monolithic concrete, after digging a pit, the bottom is covered with a layer of sand. It is reinforced with an approach to the walls. This will give the structure strength. The bottom of the pit is poured with concrete and left to solidify. Then the formwork for the walls is installed and they are poured with concrete. After it hardens, formwork and flooring are made.

Defects in concrete after removing the formwork must be repaired with cement-sand mortar

Construction of a toilet house over a cesspool

After they have prepared a cesspool, they begin to build a house above it. We invite you to figure out with us how to build a country toilet made of wood.

The length of the structure is 20 centimeters longer than the width. For example, the width is 1 meter and the length is 1.2. Let the height be 2.1 meters. Next to the cesspool, a foundation is made to the appropriate size.

Roofing material is laid between the foundation and the wooden frame for insulation

Roofing material waterproofing is laid on top of it. A frame is assembled from a wooden block and screwed to the foundation.

Floorboards are laid on top of the frame and fixed with self-tapping screws. The floor must be quite strong, so the thickness of the board is taken at least 3 cm.

The frame from the bar must be treated with an antiseptic

From the bar, the front and rear frames of the toilet house are made.

The front frame should be 10 cm higher than the rear

Then they are fixed on the base, setting them using a level. Strengthen the structure with transverse bars.

Cross bars under the roof should protrude 0.3 m in front, 0.16 m behind

Then the frame for the pedestal is installed. Its height is 0.45 meters.

The height of the pedestal is made taking into account convenience

At the next stage, the frame of the house is sheathed. An imitation of a bar is perfect for this. It has a convenient spike-groove fastening. They begin to sheathe the structure from the bottom, the boards are fastened with self-tapping screws or ordinary nails. A window is cut out above the door.

When securing the imitation of the timber, make sure that the groove is on top and the spike is on the bottom. This method prevents moisture from entering the groove.

After that, the frame for the pedestal is sheathed. A hole is cut in the middle. Its size depends on the container that will be installed inside. The bottom of the container is cut out before fastening.

The size of the hole cut in the pedestal depends on the container that will be used

Then they make the roof of the house. First, the boards are fastened parallel to the front of the building at a short distance from each other.

The transverse roof boards are fixed starting from the front of the building.

Then the visor above the door is sewn up from below. Planks are fastened along the perimeter of the roof base.

Boards fixed around the perimeter of the roof base must form right angles

Now all that remains is to cover it with slate. At the next stage, the door is assembled and hung on the hinges. Platbands are stuffed on top.

Platbands close the cracks and prevent the door from opening inside the room

Then the entire structure is covered with a special impregnation that protects against moisture and pests, and then paint or varnish. Outside and inside the building, handles and a hook or latch are attached.

In our next article, you will learn how you can build a country toilet with a shower:.

Toilet for a summer residence by the type of powder closet

Where groundwater is located near the surface, the construction of a toilet in a country house with a cesspool is prohibited. In this case, a powder closet is being built. Unlike the previous version, this design does not have an underground waste receiver in the form of a pit.

Therefore, the container inserted into the hole in the pedestal must have a bottom. It is even better if these are two containers: one slightly smaller than the other. Moreover, the smaller one should have small holes for fluid seepage. And in the larger side, a drainage hose is inserted to drain excess fluid.

For a powder closet, you do not need to dig a cesspool. The waste is sprinkled with peat, and then taken out on the compost heap

The foundation of the building must be concreted. Before using the container, a filler is poured onto its bottom. It can be peat or sawdust. After each visit to the toilet, a new portion of the filler is poured on top. As the container fills up, its contents are taken out onto the compost heap.

These toilets are only suitable for temporary use. For houses with permanent residence, it is better to equip a septic tank or build a local treatment system.

Today's topic of publication is a do-it-yourself country toilet. Photos and drawings will allow you to correctly understand the appearance and size of the structure. Many people think that installing an outdoor bathroom is quite simple. Nevertheless, it is necessary to be guided by some principles and requirements, which the HomeMyHome edition will tell you about today.

Everyone can make a small-sized but functional toilet with a ladder

Without taking into account some of the nuances, it is difficult to imagine what kind of design will turn out as a result. The owner must understand that the existing requirements must be observed. Firstly, it is characterized by safety, and secondly, you will not violate anything at the time of construction.

  1. The first thing to do is to make sure that the building will not interfere with the neighbors. Agree, no one will be pleased if the toilet emits an unpleasant odor under the windows or covers the vegetation with a shadow. Agree with people, otherwise there is a great risk that you will have to move the structure to another place.
  2. Study the guidelines for the location of the toilet. It is important that ecology is respected on the site. It is forbidden to install such structures in the area of water bodies and fertile soil. It is also unacceptable to mount the structure next to wells and other natural resources.
  3. Create a project that will provide the ability to remove waste using a sewer machine. Accordingly, the toilet should be located near the entrance to the courtyard. To prevent decomposed waste from leaving the cesspool, it is better to use septic tanks.
  4. Focus on the passage of groundwater. If such sources flow next to the future toilet, the structure cannot be built. Over time, it will begin to crumble. For a country toilet, it is recommended to choose an airtight base.
  5. An outdoor toilet should be located at a distance of at least 12 m from residential buildings.

The above requirements make it possible to avoid most of the problems that may arise during operation.

Views toilets in the country, which you can put with your own hands: options with photo

There are many design options that differ in appearance, as well as in the material used in construction. Booths are also classified by type of construction. Several popular examples should be highlighted.

Standard sanitary room

Ordinary toilet with a waste hole. It does not provide for any complex systems. A cesspool is considered an obligatory attribute of such a house. They dig it with their own hands or install a complex.

A water tank can be placed on these toilets. This reservoir is designed to flush waste in the toilet.

Backlash toilet and powder toilet: features

A backlash toilet is considered a rather costly design. Its mandatory components include a concrete cesspool. The main feature of such a toilet is the correct organization of ventilation. This option is erected as a free-standing or attached to the house option.

The powder toilet is a wooden toilet seat with a lid designed as a small structure. Thick sawdust acts as a flushing mechanism, which serves to dust biological waste. The container with the material is installed next to the toilet. In the absence of sawdust, dusting of waste is carried out with wood ash.

Chemical sanitary room

A country toilet can work with a chemical composition. With a special formula, the chemicals react with bio-waste after each visit to the toilet. Thus, the unpleasant odor quickly disappears. Bacteria actively process microbes, reducing the level of solid waste. As a result, only liquid remains, which is convenient to pump out.

Building a chemical toilet may not require a large septic tank pit. Sometimes it is enough to use a stationary reservoir.

Peat dry closet for a summer residence

When arranging a dry country toilet, many people prefer to use a peat waste disposal system. A few weeks after processing, all waste turns into an excellent fertilizer for the garden and vegetable garden.

How to choose a toilet for a country toilet: which is better

There are many types of outdoor toilet toilets. They have different weights, sizes and materials of manufacture. The most common options are:

  • porcelain and ceramic... There are models of the stationary type, and there are those that are designed for squatting;
  • wooden toilet seats... Usually these are made in the form of a wooden step with a hole. It can also accommodate a seat for a stationary toilet;
  • galvanized... Such instances are not always convenient. They are very cold in winter. For manufacturing, a pipe of a suitable size and a homemade seat are required;
  • toilet seat... This design was invented quite a long time ago. To make it, you need to cut a hole in the chair cushion, or remove it completely, replacing it with a soft seat for an ordinary toilet bowl.

Purchased options are more comfortable and convenient. However, if you do not have to use the amenities of an outdoor toilet for a summer residence too often, a budgetary method will also be ideal.

DIY outdoor toilet from concrete blocks: video

A latrine at a summer cottage can also be easily built from concrete or. It is most optimal to make combined structures from such material: a country toilet with a shower. In the video, you can see how the partitions should be arranged for the proposed option.

Even if the dacha is just a bare piece of land without a single building, you still cannot do without the main thing - a toilet. The need for this uncomplicated building arises after a few hours of stay at the summer cottage. Despite the fact that we all have an idea of what a toilet should look like and what needs to be done, there is still no need to rush. First of all, you should study the site in order to understand what type of country toilet can be built in a particular case, because there are several of them. Then you need to decide where exactly you can put the toilet, while observing the sanitary rules and regulations. And only after that you can proceed to the construction itself. There is nothing difficult in making a country toilet with your own hands. However, it is not necessary to make your own toilet box. The modern market can offer ready-made toilet houses for every taste. In this article, we will analyze the instructions on how to make a toilet with your own hands, starting with choosing the type of toilet and ending with making a house.

What kind of toilet in the country can you equip - types and features

In an equipped country house, where there is a house and in fact you can live, it is advisable to have two toilets - one in the house, and the other on the street. It is convenient to use the toilet in the house at night or in bad weather when it rains. Still, the house is warmer and more comfortable. A street toilet for a summer residence is necessary in order to use it in the daytime after gardening work on the site and not to carry dirt from the street to the house.

In total, there are several types of toilets that can be used in the country:

  • Outdoor toilet with a cesspool.
  • Powder closet.
  • Backlash closet.
  • Dry closet.
  • Chemical toilet.

The choice of a toilet is influenced by such an indicator as the level of occurrence of groundwater. If the water is far away (deeper than 2.5 m) and never rises above this mark, even during the rainy season or spring floods, then any of the proposed toilet options can be used. If the groundwater level is high, the water is close to the surface, then it is impossible to equip a toilet with a cesspool.

Outdoor toilet with a cesspool- good old time-tested design. It is a cesspool up to 1.5 m deep, on top of which there is a toilet house. The impurities in the pit accumulate and gradually decompose. If the intensity of using such a toilet is high, then the filling of the pit occurs rapidly, the sewage does not have time to ferment. Previously, this problem was solved simply - they rented a toilet house, dug in an old pit, and dug a new one in another place and put a toilet on top. Now they prefer to clean the cesspools either with the help of a sewage machine or manually.

Powder closet- option of a toilet for an area where water is close. There is no cesspool at all in its design. Instead, a container (bucket, barrel, box) is used, which is installed immediately under the toilet seat. So that the sewage does not remind too much of itself with an unpleasant odor, after each trip to the toilet, they are sprinkled with dry peat, sawdust or ash. The process itself resembles dusting, from which the name of this type of toilets "powder closet" originated. Once filled, the container is removed and emptied into a compost pit, heap or other location. Over time, the sewage sprinkled with peat will turn into a wonderful fertilizer.

Backlash closet- a toilet with a sealed cesspool, which is cleaned using a sewer machine. Usually, backlash closets are installed directly in the house next to the outer wall of the house. The cesspool is located outside, sewage is fed into it through a pipe. The pit itself slopes away from the house for easy cleaning.

Dry closet- a booth familiar to city dwellers with a container into which active microorganisms are poured for the processing of sewage. Probably the easiest way to equip a toilet in the country, since you don't need to build anything - you can buy a ready-made dry closet of any size, both outdoor and home.

Chemical toilet differs from a dry closet only in a means of processing sewage. Chemical reagents are used here, so the contents of the container after processing cannot be used as fertilizer in the garden, unlike a dry closet.

Peat toilet- This is a home version of a powder closet. In fact, a powder closet is also a peat toilet, because it uses peat to dust the feces. The home peat toilet is a modernized achievement of civilization. It is very similar to an ordinary toilet bowl, only in the water tank instead of water there is dry peat, and instead of sewer pipes, a container for sewage.

Such a toilet can be safely installed inside the house. To eliminate the unpleasant odor, ventilation is provided in its design, which must be taken out into the street.

The choice of a toilet for a summer residence depends entirely on your personal preferences and on the conditions that dictate the SanPin rules.

There are certain restrictions on the placement of an outdoor toilet. First of all, they relate to those toilets in which sewage can come into contact with soil and groundwater.

  • The distance from the toilet to the water source must be at least 25 m. Whether it is a well, a well, a lake, a stream or other body of water. If the summer cottage is located at a certain slope, then the toilet must be installed below the source of water intake. This will prevent effluent from entering the drinking water.

Important! Please note that you should take into account not only your water source, but also the nearest neighbors.

  • There must be at least 12 m from the toilet to the house and the cellar or basement.
  • From a summer shower or bath, sauna at least 8 m.
  • The distance from the building for keeping animals to the toilet should be 4 m.
  • From tree trunks - 4 m, from shrubs - 1 m.
  • There must be at least 1 m from the fence to the toilet.
  • The wind rose is also taken into account when choosing the place and location of the outdoor toilet, so as not to annoy either yourself or your neighbors with an unpleasant amber.
  • The door to the toilet should not open towards the neighbors.
  • If the groundwater is below 2.5 m, then any outdoor toilet can be equipped. If it is higher than 2.5 m, then a toilet with a cesspool cannot be made, only a powder closet or a backlash closet, and you can also put dry closets. Such structures are safe in the sense that sewage cannot get into the groundwater and pollute it.

Please note that when choosing a place for a toilet, you need to focus on objects not only on your site, but also on your neighbor's. This applies to trees, and sheds, and the house, and everything else. For toilets of the type of powder closet and backlash closet, the above restrictions do not apply, since in them the sewage does not come into contact with the ground. The only thing to consider when placing them is the wind rose and ease of use.

Do-it-yourself toilet in the country - instructions for the construction of a powder closet

It is not so difficult to equip a country toilet with your own hands, it is enough to have initial carpentry skills, engineering thinking and stock up on the help of a friend. Consider an example of building a toilet in a country house as a powder closet. As we already wrote, its peculiarity is that there is no cesspool under the toilet. And this makes the task much easier. Firstly, such a toilet can be located next to a residential building. Secondly, the construction technology itself is somewhat easier, you do not have to dig a pit. Thirdly, groundwater pollution is excluded.

The construction of the toilet must begin with a drawing so that all elements and details are of the appropriate dimensions, and not by eye. Due to the fact that there is no cesspool in the powder closet, only the structure of the toilet house will be shown in the drawing.

The powder closet can be schematically represented as follows:

The size of the toilet is selected so that it is convenient to use. For example, the most common size: width 1.5 m, depth 1 m, height 2.2 m. Dimensions can be increased if required by the size of the owners. The material for making the toilet can be different: the most common wooden toilets, but you can sheathe the walls with metal profiles, slate or other material, as well as erect the walls of bricks.

Wooden country toilet - sectional drawing.

Example 1.

Example 2.

You can use a ready-made drawing, or you can draw up your own. The main thing is to comply with the dimensions during construction.

Toilet foundation and support

A country toilet is a structure that does not require a heavy foundation. In some sources, you can find a proposal to fill a strip foundation under the toilet. In fact, this is superfluous, especially if the toilet is wooden. The support for the toilet house can be made in two ways: the first is to bury the pillars, the second is to lay bricks or concrete blocks around the perimeter.

As pillars, you can use both a wooden beam or a log, and concrete posts. The latter are more resistant to aggressive environments and will last longer.

  • First of all, we mark the site. It is extremely important to accurately determine the angles of the structure.
  • We take 4 asbestos-cement pipes with a diameter of 150 mm and above and coat them outside with bitumen mastic.
  • He digs wells in the corners of the toilet house and deepens the pipes to a depth of 50 - 70 cm. The depth of the pipes may be even greater, it depends on the structure of the soil. You can make 90 cm or 1 m.
  • They must be poured with concrete mortar to a height of 1/3 of the pipe. Diligently compact the concrete to remove air bubbles.
  • We insert wooden or concrete pillars inside the pipes. To fix them, add concrete mortar.

Support pillars in this case can also act as a vertical part of the frame, i.e. they must be driven to a height of 2.3 m from the ground. It is also necessary to constantly check that the position of the posts is even in relation to the corners.

There are times when it is enough to fix concrete blocks or bricks as a support, on which the frame will then be installed. In this case, it is necessary to remove the top layer of soil to a depth of 20-30 cm and compact the base tightly. For greater reliability, a layer of sand can be poured onto the bottom. Concrete blocks, bricks or concrete curbs are placed on top.

We make the frame of a street toilet

The frame of a country toilet can be made from a wooden bar 50x50 mm or 80x80 mm. A thicker and more massive bar 100x100 mm and more is not necessary to take. You can also use metal corners.

The frame must be a structure:

  • 4th bearing vertical supports.
  • Toilet roof trim. The longitudinal beams for the roof should protrude 30 - 40 cm beyond the toilet body. In front, the canopy will serve as a canopy, and at the back - to drain rainwater away from the toilet.
  • Strapping or screed at the level of the future toilet seat. Usually the bars of the toilet seat strap are fastened in space to the load-bearing vertical supports. The height of the toilet seat should be comfortable - 40 cm from the toilet floor.
  • Diagonal braces for structural strength on the back and sides of the toilet.
  • Frame for fastening the door. Two vertical supports up to 1.9 m high and a horizontal lintel on top at the same height.

Be sure to calculate the height of the toilet seat, as sitting too high will be uncomfortable, especially if there are short people among the owners. Indicate at what level the final floor in the toilet will be, and set aside 38 - 40 cm up from it. Please note that on top of the strapping there will be another sheathing with a thickness of 20 - 25 mm.

We sheathe the body of the toilet, we make the roof

Further construction of a country toilet is to sheathe the frame. Since wooden toilets are always popular due to their distinctive beauty, convenience and comfort, the walls of the country toilet can be sheathed with wooden boards.

Wooden boards 15 - 25 mm thick are nailed to the frame, tightly fitting them to each other. It is necessary to arrange the boards vertically. Since the roof will be sloped towards the rear wall, the upper part of the sheathing boards will have to be carefully cut off at an angle.

Instead of wood, you can use sheets of corrugated board, slate or other material. They are much easier to work with as they only require three sheets for the back and two side walls. But in such a toilet it is much less comfortable to be in than in a wooden one. And all because there is no natural exchange of moisture and air through the walls.

On the back wall of the toilet, it is necessary to make a door through which it will be possible to remove the container with sewage. Usually it is made for the entire width of the back wall to a height of 40 cm (up to the height of the toilet seat). Such a door is fixed on hinges. It can be done from the same wooden planks.

The roof of the country toilet is usually covered with the same material as all the buildings on the site so that the buildings do not knock out of the composition. You can use sheets of corrugated board or metal tiles. An opening for a ventilation pipe must be made in the roof, which must then be carefully sealed.

If you want to make the roof of the toilet wooden, then it must be covered with roofing felt or other roll material so that the tree does not get wet.

We hang the door

The door for a country toilet is usually made of wood. The door is hinged. The number of hinges 2 or 3 depends on the severity and massiveness of the door. The heavier the door, the more hinges there should be. Everyone does the mechanism for closing the toilet door as he likes: a latch, a hook, a latch or a wooden latch. A latch must also be installed inside the toilet.

A window should be made above the door through which natural light can penetrate. Usually it is done as close to the roof as possible so that no water gets inside during rain. The window can be glazed, then neither rain nor insects, which often fly through such windows, will be scary. What a country wooden toilet looks like can be seen in the photo.

Country toilet: photo - examples

We equip the toilet seat

A seat or a toilet seat in a country toilet is made of wooden boards, lining or moisture-resistant plywood. It is better to use pure wood without additives, so we exclude plywood. The frame of the future toilet seat was made at the stage of arranging the frame, so now it is enough to carefully sheathe it with wooden boards and paint it. In the middle we cut a hole through which we will relieve ourselves. Be sure to check at what depth from the beginning of the toilet seat you should make a hole so that it is convenient to use it.

We install a container for sewage with a volume of 20 to 40 liters under the toilet seat. By the way, the toilet seat cover can be made reclining on hinges, or it can be stationary.

We hang the peat container on the wall in a convenient place. At the bottom we put a bucket for toilet paper. A washbasin can be installed inside the toilet, if the size of the building allows it. Then we install a bucket for slops under the sink.

How to build a toilet in the country with a cesspool

The construction of a toilet with a cesspool is somewhat more difficult, since you will have to equip a waste pit. The dressing house for this type of toilets is no different, so we will not touch on it. We will only indicate how to make communications. The diagram shows how the cesspool should be located relative to the toilet house. Based on this, we mark the site and proceed to earthworks.

  • Digging a cesspool with a slope towards the back wall of the toilet, 1.5 m deep.
  • The bottom and walls of the pit are tamped with clay with a layer of 15 - 25 cm. Some people, instead of clay, make the walls of the pit out of wood, brick or concrete. If the groundwater is at sufficient depth, it is not necessary to make the walls of the cesspool completely sealed. A clay castle is enough.
  • We knock down the base for the toilet from a wooden beam 100x100 mm. You can also use sidewalk curbs or concrete blocks on the ground. If you use a wooden bar, then it must be treated with an antiseptic.
  • Above the cesspool, we equip the flooring of boards. First, we knock down the frame from the beams. We make such a distance between them so that it is convenient to clean the pit. Please note that the flooring is done outside the toilet house, there is enough free space under the house for sewage to fall into the pit.
  • The flooring must be upholstered from below with roofing felt or other roll material.
  • We install a hatch behind the toilet, which is a hinged hinged cover. The hatch will be used when cleaning the pit. We treat the wooden hatch with an antiseptic.
  • We are laying a ventilation pipe from the pit. We install it next to the back wall of the toilet, bring it 70 - 100 cm above the roof of the toilet. For these purposes, you can use a regular sewer pipe. We fix the visor on top of the pipe so that water and debris do not get inside. We fix the pipe to the back wall with clamps. The lower edge of the ventilation pipe should be 15 - 20 cm below the floor of the toilet.
  • A dressing house is installed on top.
  • Around the toilet with a cesspool, it is imperative to make a blind area and drain rainwater so that it does not flood the pit with sewage.

If in the future it is planned to clean the cesspool with the help of a sewage machine, then the toilet must be located on the site so that the car can drive up to a sufficient distance. Remember, the sleeve of such a machine is only 7 m.

Country toilet backlash closet and its features

Most often, a backlash-closet country toilet is installed next to a residential building or inside a house. The sewer is located outside the building, outside its walls. A toilet of this type can only be built where it is possible to heat a waste pit during winter. If you will not use the toilet in winter, then before the end of the season, the cesspool must be completely cleaned.

The main difference between the backlash closet and other types of toilets is that the cesspool in it is completely sealed and is regularly cleaned using a sewer machine. Here are a few differences in the construction of a backlash closet:

  • A sealed pit to prevent impurities from being absorbed into the ground. You can fill a pit of concrete, make it out of bricks and plaster it, or you can use ready-made plastic containers - caissons.
  • There must be a ventilation pipe from the cesspool. It must be carried out through the chimney of a stove or fireplace. In turn, a pipe should go from the chimney into a pit through which warm air will flow. This is necessary so that the pit does not freeze. The material of the chimney is asbestos-cement or ceramic.
  • If the house does not have an ordinary stove or fireplace, but only gas heating, then the cesspool must be heated using a low-power electric heater.
  • A cover / hatch is made over the pit. To prevent the lid from freezing, it is made double: the upper one is metal or cast iron, and the lower one is wooden. We put heat-insulating material between the covers.
  • The slope of the pit should be away from the house for easy cleaning.

Recently, peat toilets for summer cottages have become more and more popular. Their convenience is that they can be safely placed in the house in any room. Peat toilets are easy to clean, practically odorless, and even a fragile woman or an elderly person can cope with them. Also, similar toilets can be made on the street, the same powder closet is just the predecessor of the modern peat toilet.

A toilet in the country is an integral part of comfort, full-fledged existence. When purchasing an absolutely clean piece of land, the first thing we install is this structure. This is not only natural, but even necessary. The construction of this building does not require any special projects. Anyone who is even a little friends with carpentry tools can build a country toilet with their own hands. Let's take a closer look at this process step by step. Now there are many modern alternatives to a stationary structure, some of which we will also discuss below.

At the dacha, you can do without many convenient, important structures: a shed, a swimming pool, a cellar, a barbecue oven, but without a toilet - nothing.

There are many factors to consider when getting started. The most important thing is sanitary and hygienic standards. Your toilet should not create inconvenience to neighbors, therefore, the location of the building, the competent arrangement of the cesspool, ventilation should be worked out even during the design.

Country toilet, photo:

The equipment of the cesspool, the method of cleaning it is also an important nuance, which directly depends on the flow of groundwater. If the underground waters are located high, then you will have to look for alternative options, since you cannot make a hole. With low groundwater flow, the pit must be extremely tight.

Country toilet - design options

The simplest, most common option is a wooden restroom. Even a beginner can build it, it will come out inexpensive in terms of the cost of building materials. If desired, this design can be easily transferred. For sheathing the frame, a board, lining, chipboard sheets are used, if you have imagination, sometimes pretty nice options are obtained. The simplest, cheapest option is a closet made of wooden boards.

Design, photo:

A more solid structure of metal sheets is erected in two ways.

The first option - the same wooden frame is sheathed with sheets, in the second - the base of the frame is made of metal pipes, to which sheets of iron or slate are subsequently attached. The shaded part of the site is the best place for such a toilet, since in the summer the sun will heat the metal, giving you discomfort when visiting. From the inside, such a building can be sheathed with polystyrene or expanded polystyrene.

A stationary brick building will require more time to build, as well as the availability of building skills from the developer. Here you need to think in detail about ways to clean the cesspool, the possibility of a convenient access (for example, a sewer truck) to the building.

A summer cottage toilet of the "Backlash-closet" type does not differ significantly from the stationary version; the whole feature is the construction of a cesspool. Moreover, its walls, the bottom must be sealed, and it itself must have an elongated shape.

This feature will improve the optimization of the waste disposal process, more convenient installation of sewer hoses. A significant “minus” of the “Luft-closet” latrines is the impossibility of using them during the winter.

The peat country toilet belongs to the alternative options for closets. In this case, the waste is immediately sprinkled with peat, and when the sewer tank is full, it is taken out, the processed contents are removed. More details about the operational functions of peat toilets will be written below.

Requirements for the construction of a country toilet

There are many nuances associated with the construction of a latrine, you need to take into account the direction of the winds, the possibility of an unobstructed access of a sewage truck to the building, the distance from the cesspool to the point with water (no more than 25 meters). If there are other buildings nearby, the distance from them to the toilet should be at least 5 meters. Often, closets are installed at a distance. But so that the border of the neighboring fence is at least 1 meter. Make sure that neighbors cannot see anything when you open the toilet door.

A country toilet with a cesspool is a solid structure that should be relatively spacious. The most common, comfortable building options are the "birdhouse" and "hut". If you want a place to turn around, the birdhouse type will suit you.

If we consider the building from the point of view of the impact of atmospheric precipitation, then the "hut" type wins here.

The whole "attack" of rains and snow will fall on the roof, which at the "hut" reaches almost the level of the ground, while the walls will remain dry.

Both types of buildings allow you to equip a country toilet without a cesspool, placing a removable tank at the base of the building or not far from it, where waste will be collected. This can be a welded metal container, a special bucket, a suitable plastic tank or a wooden tank with peat, turf, sand. The presence of a foundation is preferable for any type of building.

A cesspool is the main element of a country toilet, in order to determine its volume, you should know that with constant use, about 50-60 liters should be allocated per person (according to the calculation - 3 months). As mentioned above, it must be airtight so that sewage does not come into contact with the aquifers of the soil. A well-equipped clay castle (20-30 cm thick) around the pit is an essential requirement when building a country toilet.

We build a toilet in a summer cottage with our own hands

If this is your first time building a toilet, then take into account that it is the wooden structure that is easiest to build. Wood is a relatively inexpensive building material, it is easy to work with, it retains heat well, and is environmentally friendly. Let's take a closer look at this option. To equip the frame, you will need wooden blocks, a 40 × 40 section (or slightly more) is optimal. Choose the cladding material to your liking: a lining, a standard board or even a block house will look quite appropriate. The roof can be covered with ondulin, slate, roofing felt.

Base, frame of the future toilet, photo:

To build a lavatory of the "birdhouse" type, you can use a standard drawing, or you can connect your imagination, develop your own individual version. Typical dimensions of a country toilet: rear wall - 2 meters, facade - 2.30 m, the width of the building must be at least 1 meter, the roof is single-pitched, the presence of a cesspool, the base is at least 1 × 1 m.

Building materials that you will need: solid sand-cement blocks, wooden beams, sand, boards, lining (sheathing), roofing material. You will also need chipped brick, shaped steel sheet, paint or varnish, door block, hinges, handle, latches, nails. For arranging the frame, it is preferable to choose an edged board made of hard wood (for example, larch, beech), stock up on metal corners, self-tapping screws.

Country toilet, stages of work:

  1. First of all, we proceed to the cesspool, its approximate parameters should be at least 1: 1: 2 m, the dimensions of the cesspool determine the dimensions of the structure itself. We cover the bottom of the pit with chipped bricks or coarse gravel.
  2. Sand-cement blocks (they can be replaced with a concrete curb) will be the foundation. We install them in the corners of the pit - this is the base of the future frame.
  3. Roofing material on the blocks, about 4 layers - this is the necessary waterproofing.
  4. The wooden frame consists of 4 bearing supports (vertical). The bars, which are laid longitudinally, should extend beyond the boundaries of the closet body by about 35-40 cm. The protruding part in the front is the future visor, the part in the back is the drainage of precipitation from the wall of the building. The strapping is done at the level of the place where the toilet will be installed. The height of the toilet seat should be comfortable - 40-45 cm from the floor.
  5. For greater strength of the frame, we establish diagonal stiffening ties on the back wall, as well as on the side walls of the closet.
  6. The frame of the door block consists of two vertically installed supports with a horizontal lintel at the top.
  7. We sheathe the frame with the selected material, lay a board on the floor (at least 4 cm thick).
  8. We cut a hole in the floor of the appropriate size, the shape can be any.
  9. We install a door block with a door, cut out a window if desired.
  10. We cover the roof of the toilet with the selected coating (roofing material, ondulin, slate, etc.).
  11. We cover the structure with paint or varnish.

The device of a country toilet with a cesspool implies a well-equipped ventilation system. It is important that unpleasant odors do not stagnate from the pit, they come out freely. The drain pipe can be made of any material, but its diameter must be at least 10 cm. Holes of the appropriate size must be cut in the toilet pedestal, like on the roof. The upper end of the pipe must rise above the roof of the building by at least 20 cm. The distances between the pipe and the cutout must be carefully sealed, and a ventilation deflector must be installed on the upper pipe outlet (it creates a draft). Inside, the building can be sheathed with expanded polystyrene or any other suitable facing material.

Country toilet - cleaning the cesspool

There is no such person who would feel comfortable inhaling unpleasant odors. A street (country) closet, of course, cannot be a source of pleasant aromas, but advanced biotechnology successfully cope with this problem. Today, there are special chemicals that not only block unpleasant odors, but convert waste into liquid, oxygen, carbon dioxide.

Many summer residents do not have correct information regarding these chemicals, believing that chemicals can harm the environment and plants. This is not so - high-quality biological products (such as "Vodogray") are absolutely harmless to human health, ecology (confirmed by ISO-9002).

Separately, it is worth mentioning biogranules - a very convenient, necessary invention. Biogranules for toilets with a cesspool - the reviews are extremely positive, since their microbiological composition includes enzymes, non-pathological bacteria. Biogranules are harmless to the environment, human and animal health, they were awarded the 2001 international medal "Environmentally friendly products".

This tool destroys bad odors, decomposes feces, toilet paper, while waste products are quickly processed, becoming a cloudy, odorless liquid. This liquid can then be safely poured out, for example, under a tree or other convenient place. The use of bio-granules solves the problem with cleaning, pumping out sewage: they not only process the contents of the cesspool, but also reduce its volume at the end of the process.

Before use, water should be poured into the cesspool, and then the drug should be added according to the attached instructions. Every 7 days, add water, add one sachet of biogranules (25 g). If the cesspool contains a lot of liquid, then you can fill up several bags at once. In the second case, the drug is pre-mixed with water, and then poured into the pit. It is worth considering that if you used to fill it with bleach before, then ordinary bio-granules will not work - such an environment will destroy them. For these cases, there is a special type of drug - "Septic-biogranules".

Two or three days after adding the product, a kind of film forms on top of the waste, which, as it were, "preserves" an unpleasant smell inside. This is followed by the decomposition process, which can slow down if your cesspool is simply dug, that is, not lined with bricks, not protected in any way. However, a positive result will be anyway. If you want you to have an odorless country toilet, then choose organic granules - an environmentally friendly product.

Toilet for a country toilet - which one to choose

The toilet is comfort, convenience. Often in country restrooms, you can see ordinary ceramic toilet seats, the same ones that are installed in city apartments. This is the wrong choice, as most toilet models have a curved flush direction. In this case, the waste is washed off with a large amount of water, so this configuration is acceptable. A toilet for a country toilet, on the other hand, must have a direct "exit" so that the contents can be freely sent inside the cesspool. In addition, ceramic toilets are very heavy, which is also not very convenient for a country closet.

A special plastic toilet bowl will be an excellent alternative for the summer cottage. It has a low weight, performs all the necessary functions, it does not have a bent "exit", it is designed specifically for such street buildings. A country toilet made of durable plastic is relatively inexpensive. The models are quite diverse.

If we strive for comfort, then we need to take into account all the nuances, all the little things. Such a nice little thing, especially necessary in winter, is a warm toilet seat. It is not very comfortable to visit an outdoor toilet in winter, and it is also not good for health. The seat is exactly the part that comes into direct contact with our body. The plastic seat keeps the cold well, which distinguishes it from the thermal seat made of expanded polypropylene.

The warm seat for a country toilet fits any street closet or toilet. The product is made of hygienic material that retains heat even in severe frost. This invention comes from Finland, and the Finns are known to be able to fight the cold. It is very easy to install, it does not absorb moisture, it is easy to care for and it is weather resistant. The product has a modern exterior design, with a cover made of the same material. The thermal seat for country toilets is made of an analogue of polystyrene, therefore it is absolutely harmless to human health and the environment.

Peat toilet - an alternative to the usual

Anyone can equip such an innovation at their dacha, since such latrines do not imply the presence of a cesspool. This option is great when a stationary building cannot be installed (high groundwater flow). These buildings are characterized by a simplified design - you do not need much time or effort to install everything. We are talking about peat toilets - an innovation that appeared relatively recently, but has already managed to positively recommend itself among summer residents.

Peat closet, photo:

Models of peat closets have an aesthetically pleasing design, but if you wish, you can "simplify" this device. A removable container is installed under an ordinary country toilet with a toilet bowl without a cesspool, and a bucket with peat filler is placed next to the toilet seat. He did his job, reached out to a bucket of peat, scooped up the peat mixture with a special scoop, poured it inside the toilet bowl - this is the whole process.

The principle of operation of such a device is to convert sewage into compost (biodegradation) due to the action of active ingredients. In peat dry closets, this role is played by peat or peat mixture. There is a peat box near the toilet. After the sewage gets inside the corresponding tank, they are sprinkled on top with this filler.

Branded peat toilets are equipped with a special dispenser installed near the upper tank for peat mixture. This is a very convenient device: you pull the handle, a kind of "flushing" occurs - the peat dose is directed downward, filling the waste. From this point on, the fecal decay begins, the absorption of liquid, due to which the unpleasant odor is blocked. When the container is full, it can be easily emptied, since all waste by this time will have already been recycled and become fertilizers.

These devices require simple maintenance: sewage is removed from the storage tank, the tank itself is washed, a new portion of peat substrate is added, and the toilet is ready for use again. You can buy a ready-made set of such a closet, or you can install a wooden structure (as described above) or just put a ready-made plastic country toilet (you can buy used dry closets at a low price). You just have to put a toilet bowl with a removable cistern for collecting sewage inside the "box" and periodically clean it.

When the storage tank is one third full, it is recommended to empty it. Processed waste is best stored inside the composter, after a while you use it as fertilizer for your garden.

Peat toilet for a summer residence - which is better?

When buying a product, pay attention to the following characteristics:

  1. Product dimensions - you should be comfortable using it (the height of the toilet seat is important), the entire device should fit into the booth proportionally.
  2. The storage capacity should not be too large or too small. Consider the number of people, the frequency of using the toilet.
  3. If the toilet is used by two people, then a too large tank will have to be emptied half empty (the waste should not stay inside the container for a long time).
  4. Consider the load on the toilet seat, strength, material thickness should depend on the weight of the heaviest user.

As for the manufacturers of peat toilets, the most positive reviews were given to the products of the Russian firms "Compact-ECO", "Piteco", Finnish country peat toilets "Ekomatic L&T", "Biolan Komplet", Swedish composting bio-closets "Mulltoa". Prices vary - they depend on the quality, from the manufacturer. It is not worth saving on such a necessary matter as a toilet - good equipment will serve your family for more than a dozen years, and this is a weighty reason.

Whichever type of closet you choose, the main thing is that it is convenient for you to use it so that the neighbors do not complain. How to build a country toilet with your own hands step by step, how to equip a "dry" peat closet, what the sanitary requirements for the construction of this building should be - you now know, which means you can tell other summer residents about it.

Photos of toilets in the country:

Accustomed to urban comfort, we try to make our country life comfortable. Agree, what kind of convenience can we talk about if there is no restroom on the territory? It is necessary to take care of the organization of a latrine at the initial stage of arranging your land plot.

Having step-by-step construction instructions, building a toilet in the country with your own hands is not so difficult, it is more difficult to choose a place for it and the model that suits you best. But we will help you do it.

We will introduce you to the rules of arrangement and typical types of country toilets. In the article you will find step-by-step instructions with drawings that will help you build a full-fledged bathroom on the site. And to help a novice master, a video is attached to the article, clearly demonstrating the process of building a closet on the site.

A toilet is not a simple outbuilding. When constructing it, you must remember some rules, the observance of which will help you not to spoil relations with neighbors in the country and will eliminate possible problems during the subsequent operation of the latrine.

Guided by the rules listed below, we will choose a suitable place for the future structure.

It is important that the country toilet is located as far as possible from the water intake point, and if groundwater approaches the surface of the earth closer than 2.5 meters, a toilet with a cesspool cannot be installed at all

The list of requirements for the remoteness of the toilet from other objects located on the site:

  • 12 meters- to the house, as well as a shed or garage, in which there are underground structures such as a basement or cellar;
  • 25-30 meters- to the source of water intake for drinking;
  • 8 meters- to a bathhouse and a barn or a garage without basements;
  • 1 meter- before the fence.

Of course, all sites have individual characteristics that must also be taken into account. If the territory has a difficult terrain, then for the restroom you need to choose a flat area located below the source of drinking water. It is important that the faeces do not come into contact with groundwater in any way.

If the sewage needs to be periodically pumped out, it should be possible to drive a sewage truck to the place of work. Of course, you should take into account the wind rose of your area so that piquant smells do not annoy you or those around you.

All these rules are easy to remember, because they are dictated by common sense. It is this approach that should be followed when choosing a structure that you will build on your own site.

Types of country toilets

The main criterion that is used to classify outdoor toilets is the way in which accumulated waste is disposed of. All others, including the construction material, are secondary.

Self-built country toilets are divided into two large categories: those that are in their design and those that do not have it.

Of course, the types of booths mentioned below are far from a complete list, because there is also a fantasy, the flight of which cannot be limited. For example, here is a cabin-carriage, in which a dry closet and a washbasin are installed

The cubicles for latrines can be bought ready-made or made by yourself.

They are divided into several types:

  • house;
  • hut;
  • hut;
  • birdhouse.

They differ from each other in appearance, size, etc. Usually summer residents choose such a booth that most of all meets their aesthetic perception.

Image gallery

The construction of such a toilet, as a rule, does not cause any difficulties. In fact, the sewer complex in this case is represented by a booth and a deep pit. It is in it that the waste of the inhabitants of the dacha goes. There they accumulate, evaporating or partially absorbing into the ground.

When it comes to a toilet with a cesspool, the imagination immediately draws a building with a hole at which you have to aim, but after all, everything can be conceived and done much more modern and neat

Of course, for the maintenance of the cesspool, it is still better to involve a sewer truck, with the help of which waste removal and disposal is carried out. The size of the pit, the number of users and the intensity of the latrine's use are factors that influence the frequency of calling the flush truck.

Sometimes the problem is not solved in the best way: they simply fill up the cesspool, digging a new one nearby. This can be done only if the pit was shallow, and the groundwater is located no closer than 2.5 meters from the surface. As a rule, a fast-growing tree is planted over the filled container.

As for the part of the toilet that is located above the ground, a variety of materials can be used for its construction:

  • traditional wood;
  • metallic profile;
  • slate;
  • bricks, etc.

The durability of any of these structures depends on the strength of the frame, and the ease of use depends on thermal insulation and the quality of ventilation.

Option 1. Low-cost timber construction

The obvious advantages of using wood for the construction of a latrine are the relative cheapness of this material and the simplicity of the work performed. The plank frame is fairly easy to build. No special skills are required to do this job.

A brand new wooden toilet looks very elegant, especially if it is impregnated with a special protective compound for wood and varnished

In addition, the structure made of wood is lightweight and therefore mobile. If there is a need for a new cesspool, the above-ground structure does not have to be disassembled and assembled in a new place. You can just transfer it carefully.

There is another obvious advantage of a wooden toilet. If you use your imagination, then this structure can become a real decoration of the suburban area. It can be stylized as a fairy-tale house or teremok.

However, along with the advantages, wood has a whole list of disadvantages:

  • drying out, cracking and deformation under the influence of direct sunlight;
  • burnout from ultraviolet radiation;
  • deformation of the frame, mold and fungi are the result of the influence of high humidity.

We should not forget about wear and tear - the influence of time.

If this building is not looked after, then literally in a few years it can turn into a wretched wreckage from horror films

Yes, an outdoor structure needs protection. To this end, the boards are treated with a primer, after which a special paint for outdoor use or varnish is applied to their surface, beautifully showing the specifics of wood.

Option # 2. Metal profile construction

There are several options for creating a simple and functional structure from a metal profile, which differ from each other in the material for making the frame of the structure. In the first case, the frame will be wooden, and in the second - metal.

The metal frame can be welded, for example, from a corner. But, of course, to solve this problem, you will need a welding machine and skills in its operation.

At the next stage of work, the base is sheathed with a metal profile using self-tapping screws or rivets. When using self-tapping screws, protective washers should be used to prevent moisture from entering the attachment point.

Washers will protect the structure from corrosion and it will last longer. Protective properties are also possessed by a special spraying applied to the sheets of the metal profile even in the process of its production.

It is better to place a structure made of a metal profile in a shaded place, because in the heat the metal heats up a lot. Foam sheets, which are used for the inner lining of the restroom, will help to reduce the negative consequences of overheating of the internal space.

Option # 3: a brick bathroom

A brick building is indeed a capital structure. On the one hand, this is good: it is less exposed to negative external factors and will last a long time. But a capital structure, especially if it is, cannot be transferred from place to place.

Therefore, one should think in advance and think well about not only the location of the toilet itself, but also the way to clean the pit under it.

The brick toilet looks monumental: notice its concrete base. It cannot be carried, but it doesn’t matter, because the choice of a place for it must have been well thought out.

It is advantageous to erect such a structure when the brick remains after the construction of the main cottage or garage. This, by the way, will give unity to the entire complex of buildings.

Please note that there must be a concrete floor between the aboveground structure and the underground part of the structure. The total cost of such a toilet will turn out to be decent.

Toilets without a cesspool

If on your site close to the surface there are rocky soils or there is a high level of groundwater, then you cannot dig a hole. How to make a toilet in such a dacha? The way out of this situation is the construction of a structure that functions in accordance with other principles.

These restrooms include:

  • bio or chemical toilet;
  • powder closet;
  • backlash closet.

Each of these restrooms has its own design features that are worth talking about.

No. 1. Hygienic backlash closet

The German word "luft" means air. The backlash closets got their name because they have separate ventilation for the bathroom and cesspool. In this design, the pit dug in the ground is replaced by a sealed container.

Moreover, this waste storage device can be located outside the premises of the bathroom itself. As a rule, it is placed against the back wall of the main heated building with a toilet bowl.

In this particular case, the connecting pipe between the toilet seat and the tank is installed vertically so that waste can flow into the sealed storage tank by gravity.

The drive and the toilet are connected by a pipe. If the toilet is located above the room with the tank, then the pipe is installed vertically.

For the tank located behind the wall, an inclined pipe is intended. The impurities must enter the storage device under the influence of gravity - by gravity.

To service the backlash closet, you need to contact the flushers, which will periodically empty the drive. To facilitate their work, the sewage tank is given an elongated shape. Of course, this type of toilet is more hygienic than those discussed earlier.

Difficulties in operating the backlash closet arise in the cold season, when the drive has to be heated in order to clean it.

No. 2. Waste-free powder closet (peat toilet)

A distinctive feature of the powder closet is a small capacity, only about 20 liters, which fits directly under the toilet seat.

This type of latrine is considered the most effective in cases where the groundwater level at the location of the dacha is close to the surface and because of this, earthworks are limited.
