  • corner of durable metal;
  • a blade from a clerical knife;
  • screws and nuts;
  • die for threading;
  • crank;
  • steel pin with a diameter of 6 mm;

To make such a cutter, you will need:

  • wooden block;
  • hacksaw;
  • pin;
  • sharpened knife blade;
  • several screws with washers;
  • a piece of PVC pipe with a diameter of 2 cm.

The process of making a bottle cutter with your own hands from a wooden bar:

  1. The block is sawn into two pieces, 10 cm and 5 cm in length.
  2. The main part of the cutter is a 10 cm long block.
  3. The pin must be placed in the block at an inclination of 7 degrees, bending it or drilling the hole obliquely. You need to put a PVC pipe on the pin. This arrangement allows the production of a tape 5-15 mm wide, depending on the presence of a nozzle.

This is a very important point, because only if you manage to make a very even edge of the eggplant, then you will be able to make a thin ribbon. A pvc tape is wound and heated by a lighter or other heat source. The tape shrinks. When heated, the tapes constrict the object. What do you need to assemble the machine?

Such tape in a 2-liter bottle is more than 35 meters. 2 5 liter bottles are enough to tie the raft. Joints with such a tape are very strong and tight. After shrinking the tape with the help of a square made of a fire, the knots became one-piece, and the raft itself rallied so that more could not be desired. We focus on the location so that it is convenient to hold the channel with your hand and so that you can screw the bottle cutter sideways to a wooden rack and cut the tape from plastic bottles.
We assume that the blade will be located inside the channel, but it is not very convenient to make markings. Therefore, we put the blade on the outside and mark the holes on it with a marker. Next, we mark the place where the cuts should be. 7 cuts in total. We also indicate the upper part of the knife. There is one caveat. When the foreman applied the knife for marking, he did not take into account the thickness of the metal. Therefore, when marking, you need to apply a blade taking into account the thickness of the metal. In this case, it is 1.5-2 millimeters. The foreman corrected the error by re-drilling the holes. The markup is complete.
A pin will be inserted into the marked hole. In the marked places, we cut the slots with a hacksaw for metal. We cut it like this: first, a short slot for a thin plastic tape, then gradually increase its length with each step. That is, first we cut through the closest one, which is closest to the hole from the hairpin. The step is about 2 millimeters. Then we increase the step.

There are nuances. When you make cuts, be sure to cut clearly on the side from which you are adjusting the width of the tape to the width you want to achieve. On the other hand, on the contrary, you need to make wider cuts in order for the bottle to adhere to the knife as much as possible in this part.
When you twist the hairpin, it is best to bend it ahead of time. On the channel, it remains flat. The blade should fit snugly against the channel.
What is a bottle cutter for? First of all, you can make shrink tape with it. It is great for repairing various tools and devices.

What are the best plastic bottles for this bottle cutter? They should be without relief. If you use a bottle with a relief, then the tape will work, but it will not be of very high quality. We cut it with a saw for metal or immediately with a grinder (disc 1-1.2 mm thick). On one side of the corner, the cuts should correspond to the size of the estimated (desired) width of cutting future threads (ropes), in the photo there are approximate sizes, each one makes for himself. On the other side, the saw is made almost to the full width of the corner, we leave 1-2 mm. jumpers.


We finish the slots with a grinder.












It is very important to process everything with a file and sandpaper so that there is not the slightest catch while pulling the thread.


















Round off all the corners.

Chips are well removed by a stiff metal brush.

In the diagram: It is advisable to use a grinder to remove the rounding inside the corner so that the blade rests against the wall, and not against the rounding.

Let's make an axle from a two-hundredth nail, its diameter is 6 mm. We cut 15-20 mm. thread M6.

IMPORTANT- bend the axis a little, this should set the cutting angle and at the same time the automatic feeding of the bottle blank.




If the thread does not fit into the hole of the knife, then you can sharpen the thread a little.


Or bore a little hole in the knife with a homemade drill with sandpaper.












Everything went well, we install the hairpin with washers in place. We fix the mechanism in a vice.

POINT 2. Check in work.




The result turned out to be unsatisfactory, the thickness of the resulting thread is constantly changing and, as a result, frequent breakage.

I think the reason for this is a slightly incorrect angle of attack of the knife, if you put 0.1-0.2 mm. lining on the back of the blade, then when cutting the thread, the bottle material itself will ask for the knife, and not try to jump off it.

But I did not go the easy way and changed the mechanism for feeding the bottle for cutting.
