Before getting into the assembly, we need to get rid of the old paint. This requires a paint thinner. Buy any at a hardware store and follow the instructions on the package. For convenience, use a piece of unwanted tarpaulin, old newspaper, or plastic as a work surface. Be sure to wear rubber gloves before applying solvent. Be sure to apply solvent to the boards we have prepared for joining chairs to a bench.

Soak the solvent for the time specified in the instructions. Use a metal spatula to remove old paint.

Let's start assembling. Use furniture dowels to attach boards to chairs. Carefully mark the location of the dowels with a marker and ruler so that all holes are flush. Wrap masking tape around the drill bit to trace the desired hole depth.

Use wood glue to secure the dowels in the holes more securely.

To make the structure more durable, add a piece of wood to the middle of the bench. Measure the distance between the chairs, saw off the timber of the required length and fasten it with screws. After assembly, you need to do the grinding of the surfaces. Use sandpaper or a sander.

Now we need to make a seat for the bench. You can either purchase beams in the store, or use the remains of the old ones left in the garage from past works. Place the beams on the edge on the bench to understand how much you need.

We glue the beams together using wood glue. We clamp it with clamps and leave it for a day.

Now we need to trim the edges of the seat surface to the shape of the chairs. In our case, they are rounded. We outline a pencil line and use a jigsaw to cut off the unnecessary part.

Place the seat on the chairs and secure them with screws. You can only use wood glue, then after gluing, put some weight on the seat. But screws will be more reliable.

Sand the seat surface after finishing work. Now all that remains is to paint the bench. For a chair structure, use paint, having previously covered the seat with foil and sealed the sides with masking tape. Paint the seat itself with varnish. If you have different beams, as in our instructions, and it looks aesthetically pleasing, then you can use a transparent varnish. Leave the bench to dry for a few days.

Now we just have to decide whether to leave it as it is or add a couple of pillows, because our bench is already ready!

Operating procedure

4. Look carefully - it is necessary that the chairs standing next to each other are in close contact with the side surfaces of the front legs. If this does not happen, you can trim these places a little, then sand them with sandpaper.
5. Now that the adjacent legs are snug against one another, apply wood glue to one of each pair. Then secure them in pairs with clamps until the connection is solid.

Attention! To prevent dents from the clamps on the legs, use small, even pieces of boards, plywood, and thick cardboard as spacers.

1. In the backs of the chairs there are metal rods of a metallic color. To paint them, first cover the wooden parts with protective adhesive tape. Then we spray dark paint on metal parts from a can.
2. You can start assembling the seat. The three planks cut to the length of the seat should be adjusted to fit. Then, small grooves for the armrests should be cut on the sides.
3. Using self-tapping screws, attach the two outer boards to the sides of the base of the chairs.
4. To add rigidity to the structure, place small wooden inserts between the non-touching parts of the adjacent chairs, as shown in the photo below. Attach them with glue and on the self-tapping screws by screwing them in from the back.
5. Fill in the bumps and holes on the face of the boards with putty.
6. After drying, sand the surface of the boards and the sides, round their edges a little.
7. Using a roller, apply paint to the bench seat. Do not forget to pre-stick the protective tape on the parts of the backrest, railings and legs that are nearby.
8. After the paint has dried, we take sandpaper and slightly three legs and wooden parts of the back, so that the bench is evenly aged, acquires a somewhat rustic look.

3. The length of the bench seat must not exceed 2 times the width. We cut out the parts of the desired size.
4. With the help of glue and self-tapping screws, we assemble the frame. We grind its surface with sandpaper.
5. We install the frame in the place where the seats were located, on self-tapping screws and glue.
6. We assemble another frame for the bottom shelf in the same way. We attach strips of smaller thickness to it. Sand rough areas with emery paper. The lower structure will serve as a shelf and an additional stiffener for the entire structure.
7. We mount the shelf-frame to the legs in the place where the crossbeams of the chairs were attached.
8. Carefully fill the grooves with self-tapping screws, irregularities, etc. with a putty. After the product has dried, we grind the surface.
9. You can start painting the finished base.
10. It remains to cut the seat out of plywood and glue thick foam rubber on it. After drying, use a furniture stapler to cover the seat with a decorative cloth. The banquet is ready.

5. We cut out 6 strips of the same length one by one. We fasten them to the chairs with self-tapping screws so that the center of each plank coincides with the center of the chair. As a result, each seat should have 6 slats, each one longer than the previous one.
6. After the final adjustment of the length with sandpaper, sand the seats a little, remove any burrs and roughness.
7. Use a tape measure to measure the distance between edges 1 and 6 of the plank. Cut the part to this size.
8. Attaching it to the seat, outline the bevel with a pencil. Cut off the excess.
9. Using glue and self-tapping screws, install the strips as shown in the photo below.
10. Do the same with the rest of the future shop.
11. Sand the installed parts so that you cannot get hurt if you touch them.
12. Disassemble the structure again to paint the seat slats.
