1. Thematic color scheme

Change the color accents of the living room to a traditional New Year's. Depending on the prevailing base shades, you can choose for yourself one of the most popular traditional combinations: white with red, green with red, silver with white and blue, or original variations on the theme of crimson, purple, pink and gold.

Having decided on a decorative color palette, try to stick to it even in small things. Textiles, toys, garlands, candles and other festive attributes should carry a single color message.

2. Natural decor

Traditional New Year's tinsel does not always fit harmoniously into the interior. Natural cones, dry branches, needles and even fruits (for example, oranges, which resemble balls in shape), will become a great alternative to garlands and balls. They fit perfectly into the New Year's concept and, moreover, do not beat! And if it seems to you that natural accessories do not look elegant enough, then they can always be transformed with the help of gold or silver paint.

3. The original tree

Of course, the tree is an integral attribute of the living room's New Year's decor. However, if the room is too small to install a full-fledged holiday tree, or you just don't want to scoop needles out of all the cracks for the next few weeks, you can go for a little trick and create an alternative tree.

This is a wall panel. You can use anything to create it: a garland, toys, decorative stickers, or any other element that you can fix on the wall.

4. Tapes

Ribbons always look smart. Use them to tie curtains, hang Christmas decorations (and not only on the tree, but also on the wall or lamps). You can put several decorative gifts under the tree or in the fireplace portal, which will also be decorated with ribbons. When choosing ribbons, remember the festive colors.

5. Christmas pillows

Decorative pillows with New Year's themed patterns or made of elegant shiny fabric (in the color of the main coloristic motives) will skillfully emphasize the festive theme. 6. Garlands

Well, what a New Year's decor without festive lights of garlands! Here it is worth recalling that they can be used not only to decorate the Christmas tree. The decorative potential of garlands is much wider. With their help, you can make a decorative wall panel, luminous inscription, window curtains, lighting for furniture.

In addition, garlands can be supplemented with decorative compositions, entangled firewood in a false fireplace to create an association with living fire, or simply put in a jar to make an original lamp.

7. Fireplace portal

If you have a real fireplace in your home, then you are very lucky. After all, it is he who can become the main focus of the New Year's decor in the living room. But if there is no fireplace, then you can still have time to equip a decorative fireplace portal in the room. 8. New Year's smells

Our opinion:

Of course, no amount of flavors can replace natural scents. Therefore, even if you do not have the opportunity to put a live spruce, try to find space for at least a few spruce or pine branches. As for cinnamon, its sticks, placed in warm water or in close proximity to the fire, will not only smell sweet, but also complement the overall decorative composition.

9. Sledge

Do you want to show off originality? Use a sled in your decor. They can perfectly fit into the New Year's interior, especially if they are made of wood or rattan and decorated with the appropriate New Year's attributes.

The sled can serve as a stand for a Christmas tree, an original coffee table, a place for folding gifts, an additional seat for the smallest guests, or even the basis of a decorative composition for a New Year's table. The main thing is that the size of the sled should be comparable to the size of the surrounding items.

10. New Year's retro poster

Of course, the posters themselves are unlikely to make the living room decor truly New Year's. Therefore, it is recommended to emphasize their presence in the interior with one or two more decorative touches, for example, lighting from garlands, coniferous framing.

I can for sure that decorating a room is easy for any occasion. For the New Year, you can resort to different materials and techniques. And, of course, be sure to consider what symbol of the New Year is indicated.

I don’t know where you start your actions, I usually started decorating the ceiling in the room.

For example, for this you can use cotton wool, silver rain, paper and even napkins. So:

you can make very beautiful cumulus "snow" clouds from cotton wool and hang them from the ceiling with the help of threads. Almost "real" snow can be made from the same cotton wool. It will be enough for you to tear the cotton wool into small pieces, lightly form balls of them and also hang them from the ceiling. You can use not threads for this, but fishing line. It will be possible to string beads on the fishing line - white and transparent, for originality.

you can easily cut a variety of snowflakes from paper or napkins. It is better to hang ballerina snowflakes on a chandelier on threads of different lengths.

The ceiling is finished. Now you can move on to the decorations on the tree or walls.

Not everyone has the opportunity to buy a real live Christmas tree, so the option of creating a Christmas tree on the wall from garlands or branches will be an excellent alternative.

On the wall we make a Christmas tree like this: we place the garland or branches so as to create the outline of the Christmas tree. If you find it difficult to imagine such an option, then first draw a sketch on the wall, and then glue the garland / branches / tinsel and so on along it. In principle, at home you are not limited in the choice of material - books, branches, buttons, cardboard and so on will help you.

A Christmas tree created in this way does not need special decor. Therefore, if you used spruce branches, you can additionally make artificial snow on them, colored small-sized toys can be hung and small-sized garland with bulbs.

On the windows, paper decorations - vytynanka are suitable as a decor. Remember how we cut out snowflakes as a child? In the same way, you can make vytynanka. If a more complex version is required, then you will need to select a plot to begin with, then transfer it to paper with a simple pencil, and only then cut it out. I use not only a stationery knife, but also nail scissors. They are best suited for large design elements.

You can also use toothpaste, children's paints, stencils and so on. If you do not like the option of window decoration, then you can decorate curtains and tulle for the New Year. You can use both Christmas tree decorations of different sizes and LED garlands, for example. You can also hang the snowflakes beautifully from the curtains.

Of course, we will not leave aside the door of the room. It, like the front door, can be originally decorated with a wreath, for example. A wreath in an hour can be made from branches or from cones, for example. You will need a wire. From it you need to create a circle that will serve as a frame. And then we just create a wreath, attaching branches to such a strong frame. I think that thin wire will not be superfluous in this case. To complete the wreath, use, for example, satin ribbons, to create bright bows, you can make artificial snow on the branches.

The wreath can be made from other material. For example, cones are perfect for this purpose. Cones can be selected in one size or different. It is important that the material you use is dry.

The cones stick together perfectly if you use a strong glue, such as "Titan" or "E6000", for example. You can also make the frame in advance. The frame for the wreath can be the most ordinary cardboard. A circle with a hole must be cut out of it. The larger the circle diameter, the larger the wreath. I recommend choosing the best, in my opinion, size - twenty to twenty-five centimeters. If you want a larger wreath, then wire is useful for the frame.

We glue the cones in a circle of cardboard, and then paint them. Of course, artificial snow, as an option when decorating a homemade wreath on the door, can also be used.

In addition, using colored paper, you can make three-dimensional letters and create a congratulatory inscription "Happy New Year!" On the door.
