Installing a built-in hob with your own hands. Do-it-yourself methods for installing the hob in the countertop

In an apartment, the location of the gas panel is determined by the location of the gas pipe. On the gas pipe, a shut-off valve must be installed. It is worth noting that the transfer of the gas pipe to any distance should be done only by the specialists of the gas company. At the same time, no one forbids installing the gas panel at a certain distance from the pipe, using for this a flexible gas connection (gas hose).

Measurements

Before purchasing a panel, you need to know the width of the countertop. The dimensions of most panels are standard and do not go beyond 55-57 cm. In the documentation for the panel, not only the dimensions of the panel should be indicated, but also the size of the hole in the table top for installing the panel.

Panel installation diagram

To protect the surface of the countertop from the movement of the jigsaw sole and from chips during sawing, masking tape is glued next to the markings or along the markings.

To prevent the cut from falling and breaking the tabletop, you need to support it from below, as in the photo, with clamps.

Preparing the panel for installation

The panel kit includes jets for the trunk connection. If they are not installed, they must be reinstalled. The installation scheme of the jets is glued to the bottom of the panel or is indicated in the passport.

If the gas panel is connected to a gas cylinder, you need to buy other jets.

The layout of modern furniture sets for the kitchen includes a built-in electric or gas stove, the hob and oven of which are mounted separately. The built-in panel is a functionally complete product that, in principle, can be used without a kitchen. This article will tell you how you can install the built-in hob and connect to the network yourself. The surface can be electric, gas or combined, but the basic rules that should be followed during work are the same for all versions.

Step-by-step installation instructions

Speaking of tools, if the flush-mounted panel is installed in a new headset, and the hole for mounting the case in the tabletop has not yet been made, a drill and an electric jigsaw are required. To connect to the mains, you will also need a screwdriver, pliers, and a voltage indicator.

The first thing to take care of is a 220 volt electrical outlet, into which the built-in hob will be connected. The choice of its location and installation must be done before installing the furniture. In addition to the panel, the cooker kit includes an oven. If the first is installed without a cabinet, it can be plugged into one outlet. Install the electrical outlet lower than the built-in hob to prevent moisture and grease exposure during cooking.

When the kitchen walls are completed, you can start working. You can install the built-in hob according to the following step-by-step instructions:

  1. First, you need to determine the dimensions of the installation opening, which must be cut out in the countertop. This information can be found in the instructions supplied by the manufacturer. If there is no instruction, you need to carefully measure the seats. It is a good idea to make a cardboard model according to these dimensions (sometimes it is included in the kit), which then needs to be installed on the tabletop and outlined with a pencil. It is necessary to provide a gap between the landing parts of the body and the edges of the table from 1 to 2 millimeters.
  2. We carefully mark the future hole. You will need a long ruler and pencil. Do not forget that the table top is made of pressed sawdust and decorated with an artificial stone coating. For this reason, do not cut a hole closer than 50 mm to the edge, as thin sections of the table may collapse.
  3. Carefully drill holes in the corners of the marked area with a drill, without going beyond it. We use a drill 8 - 10 mm for this purpose. During the drilling process, it must be installed and held strictly perpendicular to the surface.
  4. We insert a wood blade with fine teeth into an electric jigsaw to avoid chipping the surface of the countertop at the border of the slot. Having inserted the canvas into one of the prepared holes, we make a cut along the markings, firmly pressing the jigsaw to the surface. After finishing cutting, make sure that the built-in hob fits easily into the seat with a small gap. Otherwise, the edges of the hole should be trimmed.
  5. It is desirable to protect the end sections of the cut-out from moisture. For this purpose, the edges are treated with a sealant, as shown in the photo below. Then you can stick on the seal included in the kit.
  6. Now the built-in hob is being prepared for installation, after which it is installed and connected. Gently insert it into the hole and gently press it down until the protruding edges fit completely to the surface of the tabletop. Before this, you can apply a layer of silicone sealant to the surface, which will then be covered by the built-in hob. This will ensure the sealing of the connection. Care should be taken when pressing on the surface, especially if it is glass. It is important that the built-in panel lies evenly on the surface of the worktop. Otherwise, placing a heavy saucepan on it may create kink forces.
  7. The last stage of installation is that the built-in panel is fixed using the special fixing clamps included in the kit. The clamps are installed from below, after which the body is fixed. Any protruding excess sealant that has been applied to the surface of the countertop must be carefully removed. If an oven is installed under the hob, a layer of thermal insulation is laid between them.

The detailed process of installing an electric hob in a worktop is demonstrated in the video tutorials:

Electrical connection

To connect the built-in hob to the mains, it is enough to check the presence of voltage and connect the plug to the socket. When preparing for installation, make sure that the cross-section of the wires corresponds to the connected electrical power that the built-in panel has. Otherwise, you need to draw a separate line from the terminal board to the plate. Then the installation of the socket may not be required. We talked about in more detail in a separate article, which we strongly recommend that you familiarize yourself with.

I still chose an induction hob. Because I don't have gas in my house, and I didn't want a regular electric one. The panel from the manufacturer HANSA, there will definitely be an article about it, but today is not about that. Today I need to install this hob in my countertop! And I have never done this before, only saw how the masters do it. But I didn't really want to give 2000 - 2500 rubles, I didn't really want to install the surface and therefore decided to install it myself, in principle I succeeded, I think you will succeed ...

The article will be with pictures, so read and see everything step by step.

Guys for a start -. Be sure to read the article so as not to redo the wiring several times later!

1) Tool. To install (insert) the hob, we need a jigsaw, a drill, a tape measure, marking pencils and a flat board, about 1 meter (I have left of the furniture) or a large ruler.

2) Determine the place where we will embed the panel, I have this place above the void for the oven. Of course, the panel can also be embedded above cabinets with dishes and kitchen utensils, but as I think this is not very correct.

3) Try on the panel by eye. The main thing is that there is enough space around the edges.

4) Now the most difficult thing is to mark the dimensions on the countertop. To begin with, I determined the center, just measured the distance (where the installation will be made) and marked the center.

5) Now we take a book, it has all the necessary sizes, you need to try to comply with them. First, I define the horizontal gaps. That is, what size should be set aside from the wall and what should be left to the edge of the countertop. Moreover, these dimensions are already indicated by the manufacturer, here they are in the picture - X and X1. X - 50 mm (to the wall), X1 - 60 mm (to the edge). We postpone these dimensions. I have a corner attached, it is 30 mm, so I save another 20 mm from it and that 50 mm. At the end, exactly 60 mm remains, you don't even need to measure there.

6) Now the dimension "A" is important to us - this is the width of the slab, we have it 560 mm, that is, 280 mm from the center (which we set aside). Draw two parallel lines from the center at a distance of 280 mm. And in the end, we get all sizes. Take a look.

7) Now we take a drill, insert a drill 8 - 10 mm (so that the jigsaw file fits) and drill. We need to drill three to four holes (three are possible, then the last corner in which we do not drill - we will cut to it). Here are my three holes.

8) Next, we take a jigsaw and start cutting the countertop, everything is strictly in size. It should be noted the dimensions that are in the instructions already with gaps. We'll have to sweat the worktop is difficult to saw, but after 20 - 25 minutes everything was ready.

9) After that, we simply take out the cut plate and remove it.

10) We remove the sawdust and try to insert the panel into place, everything should be fine! They did it according to the manufacturer's size. The stove moves a little, that is, you can move it slightly to the right - to the left, and also up and down.

Complex cookers for the kitchen, simultaneously combining a hob and an oven, are becoming a thing of the past. Modern housewives are less likely to use ovens for their intended purpose. They are increasingly turning into a warehouse for pots and pans.

Why overpay money for an unnecessary metal cabinet when you can purchase a convenient and aesthetic hob, and the free space under it is perfect for storing dishes and other things. Even an inexperienced craftsman can install the hob into a worktop, because its installation does not require experience and qualifications at all.

Varieties of hobs

So, before proceeding with such a procedure as installing the hob in the countertop with your own hands (you can see the photo in this article), you should understand the types of these devices. There are the following main types of hobs:

  1. Electrical.
  2. Induction.
  3. Gas.

It is advisable to entrust the installation and installation of the latter option to a professional, since an incorrect connection can lead to serious problems. When using gas stoves indoors, special requirements must be observed. When installing electrical panels, it is also important to be careful and safe when working with high voltages. Provide a good quality electrical power supply with grounding.

When buying a hob, it is important to pay special attention to it, since the installation of the hob in the worktop should be carried out with a small margin at the edges. In addition, you need to decide on the place of the tie-in. Spend in advance

Installing the countertop

If you have purchased a glass or stone countertop, it is advisable to entrust its installation to professionals. Since you do not know about all the intricacies of the process, you can damage an expensive item. If you can handle the installation yourself, but with some construction skills.

You will need the following:

  • Trowel compound.
  • Tile for facing the surface of the countertop.
  • Mounting or tile adhesive.
  • Tungsten-coated tiles.
  • Gun with silicone sealant.
  • Electric jigsaw.
  • Waterproof wood board.
  • A set of tools - square, screwdriver, screws.

Replacing the countertop should begin with dismantling the old one. Despite the fact that you will not need the old countertop in the future, you must remove it very carefully in order to avoid damage to the kitchen set.

It is very important to fit the new countertop to the size of your furniture. It is likely that you will need to cut the excess. In this case, the unprotected edges of the chipboard are exposed. This material perfectly absorbs moisture, so the cuts must be well sealed with a sealant. If the tabletop is mounted with cuts to the slab, it is advisable to close them using special end strips.

Required tools

Before proceeding to such a process as installing a hob in a worktop (photos show what they are), you need to prepare the following tools:

  • Pencil.
  • Roulette.
  • Jigsaw.
  • Drill-driver with a drill for wood with a diameter of 8-10 mm.
  • Sealant.

Preparatory process

First, you need to make sure that there are readily available in the place where the hob will be installed in the worktop. The presence of a socket, a suitable length of the gas supply hose, without crushing and kinking for the gas stove are two fundamental aspects.

If the wiring is old and you are not sure that it is reliable, it is recommended to run an independent cable for the stove directly from the meter.

Installing the hob in a worktop

  1. First you need to make a hole in the countertop. For this, according to the instructions, an opening is marked. If there is no instruction, then
the full size is outlined, while on each side it is necessary to retreat by about 5 mm.
  2. Using a drill, a hole is drilled so that it does not go beyond the boundary of the contour. Then we continue to work with a jigsaw. To reduce chips, it is recommended to take a file with fine teeth. In addition, you can paste over the outline with stationery or masking tape.
  3. After the drank is done, you need to paint over or seal the sawn edges with sealant to prevent the countertop from swelling.
  4. Next, the hob is installed in a 28 mm worktop, fixed and connected to the network.

The panel insertion must be carried out with maximum precision. Otherwise, even a 1 cm error can ruin the countertop, which is one of the most expensive elements of a kitchen set.

Artificial stone countertop

Compared to their chipboard counterparts, the artificial stone countertop is the most durable. Despite this, the main problem is the installation of the hob in an artificial stone worktop.

In most cases, an artificial stone worktop is ordered with ready-made holes for a specific hob. But what if the worktop is already installed, but the hob is not yet? In this case, the most reliable and best option would be to give the tabletop to qualified specialists who, using a professional tool, will make the necessary hole.

If you still decide to take a chance, then this work can be done using the technology described above, but instead of a jigsaw, you will need to take an angle grinder and a diamond-coated disc designed for cutting concrete.

It is important to remember that self-installation of the hob into the worktop should be well thought out at all stages of installation. Only in this case, less time will be spent on carrying out this type of work, and also their quality and subsequent result will significantly improve.

The hob allows you not only to cook any dish, but also to save space. After all, this technique is smaller than large and bulky gas stoves. How to install the hob and oven? It's simple. The main thing is to follow the instructions. Anyone can cope with such tasks. This does not require expensive equipment, but only the availability of certain tools is important.

What is required

In conclusion

Now you know how to embed the hob into the worktop with your own hands. Before starting work, it is worth evaluating your skills and abilities. If you cannot afford it, then you should seek the help of professionals. However, it's safe to say that the installation process is not very complicated. Practically everyone can cope with such a task. The main thing is to carefully study the instructions and have all the necessary tools at hand. When performing such work, it is recommended to take into account all the nuances and subtleties of the process.
