How to replace the engine on a cotton candy machine. Homemade cotton candy machine

Cotton candy (or candy) is cool, but quite expensive. And it looks completely crazy to buy a machine for cotton candy, just to occasionally indulge in this delicacy. This DIY project comes together very quickly from an intact pot and what may be lying around in your bins idle.

The main part of the cotton candy machine is a container with sugar and holes, which will heat up and rotate, and the threads of melted sugar will fly out into these holes. This container will be inside the pan so that the sugar threads do not scatter throughout the kitchen.

Step 1: Required Materials

To make a cotton candy maker at home, you will need:

  • Turbo lighter - These lighters burn with a blue flame, the temperature of their fire is much higher than that of conventional gas lighters, and they do not produce soot. You need such a lighter with a fixed switch.
  • Small electric motor (8 V is possible).
  • Battery for the engine (I used a pp3 battery - krone).
  • Battery connector.
  • Tin can - I used a bean can. Of course, a fish can would have been better, but then cotton candy would have turned out with a fishy smell.
  • To install the engine in a mini cotton candy machine - caps from a bottle of milk.
  • Deep pot or clean bucket - the pot shown in the first photo wasn't big enough, so I ended up replacing it with a larger one.
  • Long stick, longer than the width of the pot. I used a guide from an old dishwasher.
  • Threaded rod for the stem (about 15 cm. I used a 10 cm stud, it should be longer than the height of the can.
  • Small nut, bolt and washer. I took a steel bolt, it is perfectly screwed into a soft brass tube.

Consumables:

  • Sugar
  • bamboo skewers
  • Fast acting epoxy
  • cling film

Tools:

  • Drill with a set of drills (including 1 mm and less)
  • Soldering Station
  • Files
  • Tin scissors or can opener

Step 2: Stabilize the Lighter

The lighter that I used in the typewriter was very unstable. And due to the fact that it was filled from the bottom, I could not just put it on epoxy.

In order to make a stand for a lighter, you need to wrap it in a couple of layers of cling film. Then mix up the fast-acting epoxy, and fill the bottle cap with it, insert the lighter into the epoxy. After a few minutes, remove the lighter and remove the cling film from it. you have a removable base for a lighter.

Step 3: Install the motor on the rail

The engine is connected to the pan with a threaded stud; for this, a hole for the engine shaft is drilled on one side of the stud. It is very convenient to drill such a hole with a bench drilling machine, but I did it manually. Check if the drilled hole fits the motor shaft.

On the other side of the stud, drill a hole slightly smaller than the diameter of the bolt you prepared. Fix the motor shaft in the hole with superglue.

Now you need to attach the motor to the rail. There was a hole in my guide from the dishwasher, which only had to be slightly expanded with a needle file. Drill two holes on the sides for the motor mounting screws.

Step 4: Prepare the can

This jar will heat up and melt sugar, which means it must be filled with sugar, fixed above the flame and quickly rotate around its own axis so that the melted sugar scatters around the jar.

First, cut a hole in the lid. I used tin scissors and a needle file. In order for the sugar not to fall out over the edge, I left a small edge. Practice has shown that it is not necessary, which means that the lid can be cut out with an opener.

In any case, the edge of the cut must be processed with a needle file so as not to cut yourself. Then you need to drill holes in the wall of the can along the bottom. I used a 1 mm drill for this, and sugar crystals fly out into the holes. Therefore, it is desirable to use the drill even less. I drilled holes about 1cm apart.

Step 5: Install the jar

Now screw the mounting screw into the drilled hole in the end of the threaded stud. If you have a tap for tapping the right size of internal threads, that's just fine, but if not, then it's okay - brass is a soft enough metal, you can just screw the screw into the hole.

Drill a hole in the bottom of the jar and insert a stud with a motor into this hole. Screw on the nut to secure the jar to the stud, so it will spin with the motor stud.

The jar, mounted on the shaft, must be located at a sufficient distance above the flame of the lighter, when installed on a pan.

Step 6: Making Cotton Candy

The cotton candy machine is ready, now turn on the lighter, pour a couple of spoons of sugar into the jar and turn on the electric motor. Place the lighter under the edge of the can. As the jar heats up, the sugar will begin to melt and fly through the holes in the jar into the pan. Once you have a few strands of sugar, collect them on a bamboo skewer.

Who among us in childhood did not dream that he had his own machine for making cotton candy? If, having matured, you have not decided to connect your life with the art of confectionery, it is possible to fulfill this dream. Various models of devices are on sale: from amateur to professional, from cheap to expensive. And those who know how to work with their hands, according to the instructions, will assemble such a unit from improvised means in 5 minutes. How to do this, and whether it is necessary to do this at all, will be discussed below.

Professional cotton candy machine at home

The simplest way to prepare a dessert loved by many is based on the use of a professional cotton candy machine. You can find such a device both on the Internet and in household appliance stores, where there is everything you need for the home. Compact, it produces a large number of servings in a short time, which will be useful for both the party star and the organizer of children's parties. Anyone can use the unit: no professional skills are required for operation.

To enjoy cotton wool, follow a simple sequence of steps:

Step #1. We wash a newly purchased car in warm water and dry it thoroughly.

Step #2. We start the device and let it idle for about five minutes, so that the base has time to fully warm up.

Step #3. Pour two teaspoons or tablespoons of sugar onto a metal disk located in the center of the structure (depending on the required portion size). When heated, it will begin to turn into threads of a sweet "cobweb".

Step number 4. We take a straw from a cocktail, a chopstick or any similar object and wind the resulting threads around it. Slowly move the bowl in a circle until we get a portion of the desired volume.

Step number 5. At the end of the work, we wash the device again, dry it and put it away in a place inaccessible to children.

Also, working with the device, be sure to ensure that it:

  • Didn't overheat. After creating 1-2 portions, turn off the device and let it cool down.
  • Didn't get dirty. Once too lazy to wash the device after work, we can permanently disable it.
  • Didn't work unattended. The web created is very light. It is worth gaping, and it will decorate a chandelier, table, carpet and other surfaces that it has time to fly to. But it will be difficult to clean them.

Cotton candy machine for home: Materials needed

If there is neither money nor desire to spend money on a professional device, a home-made one may well help in the manufacture of cotton candy. To assemble it, we need the following materials:

  1. Brand new cardboard box, inside clean and unadorned.
  2. Plastic bottle with a capacity of at least 5 liters.
  3. A lid from a baby food can or a used CD.
  4. Tools.
  5. A working small motor that can be borrowed from a child's toy or a small household appliance.
  6. Charging from a phone with a power of 12 to 20 volts.

Let's start assembling :

Step #1. Thoroughly rinse and dry the bottle and cap/CD. We get rid of any elements (paints, labels, etc.) that can get into the cotton during cooking.

Step #2. We take a bottle cap, cut holes in it, in which we then fix the motor with glue. We pull the nipple gum onto the rotor, and we already cover it with a lid from a can of baby food. The finished design looks like this:

Step #3. We connect the charger to the motor, we pass the wires through the bottle, the cap of which is carefully twisted.

Step number 4. We put the resulting design in a box, and install it near the outlet. Our cotton candy machine is ready.

Cooking a sweet, airy dessert :

Step #1. We mix sugar with water in a ratio of three to one (on the basis that about 2 teaspoons of granulated sugar are required per serving). Mix the solution thoroughly. When it becomes completely homogeneous, add 5 ml of 3% vinegar and mix thoroughly again.

Step #2. Pour the resulting mixture into a saucepan / frying pan with high walls and, stirring constantly, cook over low heat until thickened.

Step #3. Pour the solution into a ceramic container and let it cool to 30-35 degrees. Then pour it back into the pan and continue heating. Repeat the procedure until the sugar syrup acquires a golden hue and thickens thoroughly.

Step number 4. When everything is ready, turn on the machine and begin to pour the prepared syrup onto it in a thin stream. If all the previous steps were done correctly, the first strands of "cobwebs" will appear immediately.

It remains only to wait until a portion of the size we need is formed and enjoy a dessert prepared by one's own hands. Agree, it couldn't be easier.

Pros and cons of cotton candy equipment. Is it worth the bother?

Planning to buy a cotton candy maker but not sure if it is worth the money? Consider the pros and cons of the device to make it easier for you to choose. So, when making a purchase decision, pay attention to the following indicators:

  • Price. The cost of professional units is calculated in tens or even hundreds of thousands of rubles. Home wave models can be found for 3-10 thousand. However, even this amount will be unreasonably large if you plan to use the car only a couple of times, and then just push it to the far shelf.
  • Performance. Those who, on the contrary, want to operate the cotton candy machine on an ongoing basis, should focus on its technical characteristics when choosing. Will the model you like perform the volume of operations that are required of it? Or will it become unusable after 5-10 cycles? Reviews and a description of the device parameters will help you figure it out.
  • Demand. Find out if your friends need a similar dessert at all? If most of the invitees are those who closely follow the figure or are indifferent to sweets, then making cotton candy on a device specially purchased for this purpose, you will simply transfer food and money to the wind.

As you can see, everything is obvious. The higher the price of the device, the longer it will serve you. However, even the most sophisticated model will not be cotton wool on its own, without your participation. Therefore, if in doubt whether it is worth bothering with the purchase, purchase the simplest model for a couple of thousand rubles. in the secondary market. So you will not lose much if interest in cooking disappears after the first two or three servings, and you will be able to clearly formulate your requirements for the device.

How to make cotton candy on the machine quickly and tasty: everyday tips

Do you want to simplify the cooking process, as well as make it faster and more accurate? These tips will help:

  1. To make cotton wool taste similar to the one that is sold during holidays and festivities, we take dry loose sugar or isomalt. A refined or damp product will not work here.
  2. Whether you use a professional cotton candy machine or a homemade cotton candy machine, spider webs and drops of syrup can fly around the room. Therefore, before starting the device, nearby surfaces: the floor, chairs, the sink, it does not hurt to cover it with a newspaper or a protective film.
  3. Be extremely careful when pouring hot syrup. It is worth gaping, and you are guaranteed a burn. Therefore, it is better to remove children from the kitchen for the duration of cooking.
  4. To prevent the mixture from spoiling during cooking (does not sugar, does not burn, does not thicken), stir it constantly and scrape it off the sides of the pot / pan.

There is hardly a person who has not tried cotton candy. Now it is sold everywhere - in parks, at various public events. You can even find it in stores. But the modern taste of this delicacy cannot be compared with what it used to be.

Many still cannot understand the principle of preparing this delicacy. In fact, everything is quite simple. An excellent option that will allow you to pamper not only children, but also help adults remember moments of childhood, will be homemade cotton candy.

It is easiest to make cotton candy at home using a special apparatus. But you can do without it. But for this you will have to make an effort and spend more time. Let's take a step-by-step photo of the cooking instructions for this wonderful everyone's favorite dessert.

Cooking cotton candy on special equipment

The easiest way to make cotton candy is to use a device specially designed for this purpose. It can be ordered online or found in hardware stores.

It produces a large amount of product in a short time, which is great for people who often host, or organizers of children's events or theme parties.

The device for cotton candy has a rather unpretentious design: on a stable basis there is a thicket with a metal disk that heats up during operation.

The principle of operation of the unit is very simple, which allows you to easily and quickly create your favorite sweet dish:

  1. Gently rinse a brand new car with hot water, rinse with a cleaning agent, wipe dry and leave to dry completely;
  2. Connect the device to the network and let it run for 5 minutes to warm up;
  3. Pour two large spoons of sugar onto a metal disc. From heating, it will begin to melt and begin to turn into threads;
  4. Immerse the stick into the bowl and collect ready-made threads on it. Collect the mixture that sticks to the side walls, but do not throw it away. It can make delicious lollipops. That's all. Our delicacy is ready.

The unit is very convenient, compact dimensions make it easy to wash and store it. But everything has its downsides. This device is no exception:

  • Constant overheating. Because of this, you need to regularly turn off and cool the device;
  • You can stain the surrounding area when working;
  • Constant cleaning of the bowl and other parts is required, otherwise failure may occur.

There is another way to make cotton candy:

  • It is necessary to prepare the sugar-based syrup in advance, then pour it on top of the disk;
  • From the rotation of the heated disk, the syrup turns into threads that are distributed along the walls of the bowl;
  • The finished product is collected and wound on sticks.

The device allows you to experiment with additives and syrups, which will make your cotton wool original and bright. Walnut-caramel, mint-lemon, strawberry-vanilla - these are just a small part of the new syrups that can be included in the dish.

DIY cotton candy machine

It happens that there is no money to buy new equipment. Do not despair. A machine for preparing your favorite treat can be designed independently. This is especially easy for people who have at least some skills in electrical engineering. The assembly scheme is as follows:

  1. Prepare two tin caps (can be used from baby food in jars);
  2. Wash them thoroughly, then remove all paint with sandpaper or a file. This must be taken very carefully to prevent the ingress of paint residues into the finished product;
  3. Create many small holes in the first lid. The resulting threads will come out of them. Provide the second cap with one large hole in the center. Sugar will be poured here;
  4. Combine the covers so that there is a cavity between them. Strengthen the structure with wire;
  5. Attach a motor from any small household appliances (for example, a hair dryer or a mixer) to the covers with nuts;
  6. Now you need to create a solid foundation for attaching the resulting mechanism. To do this, you can use a piece of plywood;
  7. Align the motor with the terminals of the battery or batteries of the "Krona" type, be sure to observe the polarity. On one side, place a semicircular partition made of a cardboard sheet folded in half;
  8. Pour 40 g of sugar into the hole, heat the rotating lid using matches or a lighter;
  9. When melting, threads will begin to appear and settle on the partition;
  10. The finished product must be wound on a stick.

You will get not quite airy cotton candy, but a little dense. To make it look more like a purchased one, sugar should be replaced with isomalt, a powder analogue of granulated sugar.

Cooking cotton candy without a device

The preparation of cotton candy can be carried out without the apparatus. The process will be a little more complicated and longer, but the sweetness will turn out delicious and airy. First you need to prepare:

  • Corolla;
  • A saucepan or frying pan with a thick bottom;
  • ceramic bowl;
  • Frames for winding finished products. You can use cocktail tubes, Chinese sticks. Cutlery is also suitable.

The ingredients needed are the following:

  • Sugar (white or cane) - 2-5 large spoons. Calculate by serving size;
  • Water - in a ratio of 1: 3 to sugar. For example, 150 g of sugar accounts for 50 ml of water;
  • Vinegar solution (no more than 6%) - 5-7 ml. Prepare it ahead of time.

Now consider the recipe itself, according to which cotton candy is prepared at home:

  1. Mix sugar and water together, then rub the composition with a fork;
  2. Add vinegar, stir thoroughly and transfer the mixture to the selected container (saucepan or pan) for heating over a small flame;
  3. We heat the composition and mix regularly. We collect the remains from the walls, excluding burning;
  4. When the consistency of the mixture becomes homogeneous, turn off the flame, cool the product to 30-35 degrees, stirring constantly so as not to sugar. Our syrup is ready;
  5. After cooling, we again set the container to a slow flame, boil the contents, then turn off the fire again and cool;
  6. We repeat the process about five times until the syrup stretches and acquires a golden hue;
  7. We lower the edge of the spoon into the finished product, then lift it up. The mixture should be viscous and not tear;
  8. We create a kind of frame of sticks, putting them in a vertical position and carefully fixing them;
  9. Immerse the whisk in the syrup, then circle it around the frame;
  10. We repeat the manipulations until we wind the required number of threads. They should be thin so don't take too much syrup.

To give a new color and taste, you can add food coloring, which are sold everywhere. But it is not safe for children. Therefore, you can use natural ingredients such as raspberry, lemon or beetroot juice. Get a bright fruit cotton wool. In this case, it is necessary to reduce the amount of water, as it will be replenished with juice.

The consistency of the product allows you to create various crafts from it. The kids will love it.

Finally, a few more tips to help simplify the cooking process;

  • It is necessary to use only dry bulk sugar. Refined or wet product is categorically not suitable;
  • Before cooking, it is better to protect the table and other nearby parts of the room with plastic wrap, because dried drops of syrup are very difficult to remove from surfaces;
  • Be careful when handling hot syrup. It is better to take the children out of the kitchen so that they do not burn themselves;
  • The finished product is best consumed immediately. After a while, the delicacy becomes dense and not so tasty.

As you can see, cotton candy at home is quite easy to prepare. You just need to stock up on time and patience. Then you can please your loved ones with this amazing delicacy.

Video: Cooking cotton candy at home using a special machine

Now we will talk about how to make cotton candy at home. The first thing to do is to make a cotton candy machine. To make it, you need a bottle with a volume of 5 liters, an engine from any children's toy, a lid from a jar, a power supply and a box. The power of the power supply should be from 12 -20v, any charger from the phone can do.

In the bottle cap, cut a hole and insert the engine.
The main thing is that the engine is held tight, for this you can add a couple of drops of glue. From above, we put on a nipple rubber band on the rotor and fasten the lid from the can.

We connect the power supply, its wire must pass through the bottle and connect to the engine.

The cotton candy machine is almost ready, it remains to find a box and insert the machine into it.

Now he is ready. It remains to prepare the desired mixture. To prepare the mixture, we need: a metal mug, sugar, water, a stove.
First you need to lubricate the lid from under the jar with oil. This is necessary so that the mixture does not stick to the lid.
Next, in a metal mug, pour one tablespoon of sugar and add water. There should not be much water, it is enough that the sugar is only soaked.

Put on fire and stir constantly. It is necessary that the water evaporates, and only thick caramel remains. As soon as the water stops boiling and starts to turn brown, the mixture is ready. After preparing the mixture, it is necessary to do everything quickly so that the mixture does not have time to harden. We start the miracle unit and with a small stream, drip the mixture onto the lid of the jar. Caramel will once fly in different directions and start up cobwebs. That's all.

We present to you drawings of a homemade apparatus for making cotton candy("Feshmak") and the technology of its preparation. It won't take you long to make it.
Feshmak is a caramel-type product, popularly called "cotton candy", usually in the form of a bundle of elongated thin white threads.
From one kilogram of sugar, up to 80 servings of the finished product are formed.

The simplest design for preparing a feshmak at home with a capacity of approximately 160 servings per hour consists of a 220 V electric motor with a power of 50 to 300 W with a rotor speed of 1250 - 1500 rpm and a disk made of sheet aluminum with a diameter of 170 - 180 mm and a thickness attached to its shaft. 0.2 - 0.3 mm. To make a disk, you can use tin from a herring can. At a distance of 350 - 400 mm from the center of the disk, a fence made of plastic, linoleum, etc. is installed.
If you seriously decide to start making a feshmak, we recommend using the design shown in fig. one.
For its manufacture, it is necessary to use materials provided by GOST for the food industry.

Note.

The design of the device proposed by us reflects only the basic principle of the production of "candy floss", it is elementary and easy to manufacture. If you wish, you yourself can improve the device by mechanizing part of the manual labor.

How to make cotton candy.

First you need to prepare the caramel mass. It is prepared without cooking molasses, which simplifies the cooking process. The mass is not candied due to the formation of invert sugar under the action of vinegar essence added in the middle of cooking. So, in a small amount of water (about 3 parts of sand, 1 part of water), granulated sugar is dissolved and boiled for 10 minutes, after which vinegar essence is added (3 ml of essence per 1 kg of sugar) and the mass is again boiled for 10 - 12 minutes. After that, the mass is brought to a very low heat for 25 - 30 minutes. until a strong caramel sample with a moisture content of 1.5 - 1.7% is obtained. Humidity is determined by the boiling point of the mass. At the beginning of the boil, it should be 100 - 105?, and at the end - 135 - 145?. Pour the finished mass, not allowing it to cool, in a thin stream onto the edge of the rotating disk (2 - 4 mm from the edge). To do this, it is convenient to use a small enameled bucket. Hot syrup, breaking into thousands of thin threads, hardens at room temperature, forming a layer of "cotton wool".

With high humidity of the surrounding air, it is impossible to obtain a high quality product. In this case, you can use the closing of the apparatus with a lid with a hole for filling the caramel mass. Turn off the motor and separate the threads from the body. Cut the finished product along the diameter line and roll the resulting semicircle on the table into a tube. Do the same with the second semicircle. Then cut the "cotton wool" into the desired number of portions. The product should be white in color and have a pleasant sweet taste. When using food coloring, the product becomes more attractive.
To maintain the high quality of "cotton wool", it is necessary to clean the disk of adhering syrup after each working cycle. Feshmak cannot be stored outdoors for a long time - this is its significant drawback. Sealed packaging and cold will keep it for a day or more.
Do not despair if the quality of the product did not suit you the first time. The main condition for success is the accuracy of each operation.
