How to attach a hook chandelier. How to hang a chandelier of various designs without special skills

Often after the completion of the repair and the purchase of new lighting fixtures, the question arises about fixing the chandelier to the concrete ceiling. Reliability is of particular importance as accidental dropping of the luminaire can cause injury to people. But even an inaccurately installed lamp base spoils the impression of the repair. To avoid unpleasant effects, hang the chandelier correctly depending on the design.

Different types of fixing ceiling lights

With a large assortment of electricians, it is easy to make a choice, but here there are nuances:

  • the chandelier may have a special ring for hanging on the hook;
  • the decorative base is attached to the mounting plate;
  • some luminaires are installed on the ceiling.

In each case, the fixing for the chandelier to the concrete ceiling is done differently. Only a general set of tools required in the work:

  • puncher;
  • drills of the required diameter;
  • dowels, anchor bolts with or without hooks.

If the design of the chandelier involves the use of a mounting plate, then you should check its presence in the product kit right in the store. The part is supplied with the lamp.

When purchasing a chandelier with a hook attachment, buy the correct fasteners here. The lightweight model (3-4 kg) is suspended from the base in the form of a dowel. The heavy ones require special anchors with an expansion hook with a diameter of at least 10 mm. Only in this way will the chandelier on the concrete ceiling be safe.

Disconnect the power cable before installing the luminaire. You can check if current is being supplied to one of the protruding wires using an indicator screwdriver. Touch the tip of the appliance to each end of the cable. In case of power supply, the red LED in the screwdriver handle will light up.

Remove shades, decorative pendants and other fragile parts of the structure from the chandelier frame.

Be sure to remove energy-saving lamps: they contain mercury vapor.

Mounting the chandelier on the hook

In some apartments it is installed during the construction of the building, but more often you have to do it yourself. Before fixing the fixture to the ceiling, measure the depth of the base trim cover. The hanging element must be completely hidden.

Select the drill diameter so that the dowel and anchor fit into the drilled hole very tightly. The screwed-in fastener slightly expands the plastic or metal capsule, and the installed element is held securely. If a hook with a dowel is chosen, screw its screw part all the way into the plastic capsule. When installing the anchor bolt, fully tighten the nut in the base.

Check that it is securely fastened with a weight appropriate for the weight of the luminaire. If the chandelier is small, then it is better to apply force to the fasteners by pulling down and trying to swing in the nest. The check carried out before hanging the chandelier prevents unpleasant surprises during operation.

Place the loop at the end of the lamp shaft onto the fixed hook. Using plastic electrical strips, connect the power cable and the wires of the chandelier. Note that the ground is usually yellow-green in color, striped, and the ends "phase" and "zero" are solid. After connecting, check the correctness of the connection by screwing the lamps into the standard places and pressing the switch. If the appliance does not work, it is possible that the ground is mixed with one of the working ends.

After fixing the malfunction, hide the wires and the suspension hook inside the decorative cap and fix it on the rod.

Mounting on a mounting plate

Remove the fastener part from the package and, before hanging the chandelier on the ceiling, install the fastening screws of the decorative base so that they match the cutouts. Move the bolts in the grooves, adjusting the distance to the holes in the cap. Tighten the screws in the desired position.

Installation is done as follows:

  1. Level the surface for the bracket installation. Press the plank against the ceiling, mark the location of the dowels.
  2. Punch holes. The drill diameter matches the size of the plastic dowel. Insert the capsules into the holes.
  3. Press the plank against the ceiling, screw in the screws. Tighten the bolts to prevent the bracket from moving when you apply force to it.
  4. Connect the luminaire to the cable. Check the functionality of the device.
  5. Place the decorative chandelier base on the mounting strip. Place the screws into the holes. Fasten the nuts and tighten.

At the end of hanging the chandelier on the ceiling, install the shades and other decorative elements in their regular places. Wipe shiny parts with a damp cloth to remove lime dust from them.

How to attach a lamp directly to the floor

Some types of chandeliers do not have any fasteners included. In this case, they are attached directly to the concrete base of the ceiling or wall. There are usually several holes in the body of the decorative outlet. If fastening is done on dowels, the procedure is as follows:

  • mark the location of the cutouts in the floor;
  • drill concrete and insert dowels into the recesses;
  • connect the chandelier to the network;
  • combine the holes on the decorative base and in the ceiling;
  • screw the screws into the plastic slots.

These chandeliers are often lightweight. Therefore, fastening with self-tapping screws is considered reliable.

Sometimes, after buying an apartment, a hole in the ceiling left by previous tenants is found. If it is difficult to hang a chandelier on a hook here, you have to putty the hole, drill a new mounting hole for the anchor, waste extra time. A short video demonstrates how to attach a lighting device in such a difficult case (v.1).

Sometimes the number of ends on the power cable and on the luminaire does not match. This is found in appliances with the ability to light only part of the lamps.

Houses with old electrics do not have a ground wire. Sometimes it also happens that the power cable has three cores, and the chandelier has only two connecting ends.

If the difficulty lies in the absence of grounding, then determine the wire on the power cable, which is a phase (the indicator on the screwdriver will light up), turn off the current, connect this wire to one of the ends of the lamp, attach the other to the one remaining on the power cable. After switching on, the chandelier should work. If the lamps are off, then the last attached wire is the ground wire. Disconnect it and attach it to the other free end of the power cable.

When there are only two wire outputs on the ceiling, and there is a grounding wire on the luminaire, it is determined by its two-color color. It is usually clearly visible on a new device. If the chandelier is old and the marking is obscure, determine and connect the phase before installation. After that experimentally find out which of the wires is "zero" and which is "ground", as indicated above. But often there are no problems, and you can see the markings even on an old electrical appliance.

If there is a function to turn on only some lamps, a situation arises when the number of ends on it is more than two or three. In this case, use a plastic connection block. Fix wires of the same color in its sockets on one side. make a jumper from a piece of wire by placing it on the opposite one, as shown in the photo. Connect "zero" to the end (red), connect wires of a different color (white) in pairs or several pieces in the socket. There are only two phases in this case, for different buttons on the switch. Each connects to a separate group of white wires. When you press one button, only part of the lamps lights up, when you turn on the other, all the horns work.

You can hang the chandelier on a hook or on a mounting plate yourself without the help of specialists. It is important to attach the fastener so that it does not pop out of the hole in the concrete. To do this, select the correct drill diameter.

Laziness made a man out of a monkey. Tired of climbing a palm tree for a banana - the monkey picked up a stick. Tired of the hostess forever painting and greasing the cracks on the ceiling - I ordered it. No hassle - beautiful, smooth, hygienic. There is only one small but vital question left: how to hang it on a stretch ceiling? On the one hand, it seems like you shouldn't fool yourself, it's easier to invite specially trained people for such work. But on the other hand, how do you know if they did everything right and if, God forbid, what troubles will happen after such an installation? After reading this material, you can not only control the hired workers, but also install the lighting device yourself.

Requirements for a stretch ceiling chandelier:

  • the stream of light should be directed downward or to the side, but not up;
  • it is desirable that the shades have a closed shape;
  • the distance from the plafond to the ceiling must be sufficient to prevent heating of the material;
  • with a standard room height, the tension structure already lowers the ceiling, you should not install a bulky chandelier either;
  • the luminaire should have a long suspension, sufficient to anchor to the base behind the stretched canvas.

Ceiling chandeliers for stretch ceilings can be equipped with different ones. When choosing this or that type, consider the specifics of the PVC contract:

Lamp type Description
Incandescent lampThe low cost of these devices hides a high power consumption and high-temperature impact on surrounding objects. Such lamps are least suitable for synthetic ceilings. The minimum distance from the lamp to the PVC surface is 40 cm, and then provided that the device is not more powerful than 60 W. The solution may be to install reflectors between the film and the lamp, but is there any point in blocking such a structure if there are other options?
An excellent option for a chandelier under a stretch ceiling. These devices are distinguished by their high efficiency and long service life. Such devices heat very little and pose a danger to PVC film. The lighting can be warm or cool, depending on your preference.
HalogenHalogen lamps do not heat very well, but with prolonged use, this heat is enough to deform the stretched material. A 40 W lamp should not be closer than 40 cm to the ceiling.

Designer advice! A chandelier in a contrasting color looks best on a stretch ceiling. On black - white or silver, on light, respectively, dark metal.

Basic requirements for fixing a chandelier

Fastening a chandelier to a stretch ceiling should be not only durable, but also aesthetic. Suspended devices fixed on a hook or mounting plate are suitable for stretch ceilings. Overhead chandeliers that are attached tightly to the ceiling on an overhead panel are not suitable.

Important! The hanging height of the chandelier must be sufficient, taking into account the distance between the base and the stretched material.

Alternatively, you can consider the issue of taking out the hook for fastening below the level of the PVC film, but then this moment must be provided in advance, even before the pulling procedure.

A little about the correct location of the chandelier for stretch ceilings

The height of the chandelier placement depends on several factors:

  • ceiling height;
  • ceiling covering;
  • the purpose of the premises.

How to hang a chandelier on a stretch ceiling in living rooms? There must be at least two meters from the floor to the bottom of the device. This will eliminate the risk of accidentally hitting it when moving around the room. But it is better if this distance is greater, especially when the ceilings in the room are low.

The devices, compact in height, are also suitable for halls. This design will not interfere with opening doors. In addition, keep in mind that in the hallway, people often raise their hands to take off their headdress or fix their hair, or close an umbrella. So the higher the light is, the better.

Compact placement is relevant and. Here there is a risk not only of touching the structure with your hands, but also accidentally hitting a stream of water from the shower.

If the ceilings in the room are above 3 meters, you're in luck: you can choose any shape and place it anywhere, even above. For example, it is logical to hang a lamp not in the center of the room, but above the dining group. In this case, it is organized for the working area.

Advice! Classic ceiling lights have a chain-shaped suspension. You can adjust its length by removing and adding links.

The most difficult question is how to fix the chandelier to the stretch ceiling at the location of the "second light". The peculiarity of the location requires a powerful luminous flux that can spread over two, or even three floors. In this case, take a closer look at structures from several tiers or a falling cascade of lamps.

For your information! The electrical installation rules recommend that you select hooks for lighting devices that can withstand five times the weight of the chandelier for at least 10 minutes. After removing the excessive load, no damage should remain on the mount.

Thus, the choice of a chandelier must meet not only design requirements, but also safety and usability rules.

Tools for work

The main tool in this matter is your confidence in your own capabilities. Self-installation of a chandelier on a stretch ceiling is not so much difficult as it is troublesome and requires utmost care. And there are tools for work in almost every home:

Drill

Anchors

Block of wood

Self-tapping screws

Screwdriver

Indicator screwdriver

Insulating tape

Pliers

Terminals

Basis for fixing the chandelier

There is a distance between the concrete or wood ceiling and the PVC stretch material. It can be different, depending on the characteristics of the room. If initially the ceilings have a defect, but with the help of a tension structure, it is easy to fix it. It turns out that to fix the chandelier, the empty space needs to be filled with something, to create a rigid base.

If the distance is large, a thick bar is not enough, you will have to make a frame. In this case, the place of perforation of the film must be reinforced with a gasket, it will additionally protect PVC from the temperature effects of the lamp. Such gaskets are made in the form of rings, internal and external. They are hidden behind the decorative frame of the wiring and are completely invisible.

Do-it-yourself options for installing a chandelier on a stretch ceiling

If you have already decided to take up the installation of the lamp, take care in advance to prepare the base. After the ceiling is stretched, you will not have the opportunity to mount the stand, to do the wiring. Usually the master asks in advance where you plan to hang the chandelier. You can prepare the base yourself and bring the wires to the right place in advance.

There are several ways to fix the chandelier. Let's briefly consider the main ones.

With a hook

The hook is the most common and common way to hang a chandelier. The only thing you have to do is adjust the length of the hook to the height of the tensioning fabric. If the hook was installed earlier, most likely, it will have to be replaced, since the stretch ceiling will "steal" at least 3 ÷ 5 centimeters.

For fastening, a hole is drilled in the concrete ceiling, a dowel is inserted and a threaded hook on the leg is screwed into it. If the distance between the canvas and the ceiling is too large, a bar is attached to the ceiling and a hook is screwed into this base.

Advice! After installing the stretch ceiling, all wiring will be hidden from your eyes. For your own peace of mind, place it in a protective casing.

When attaching the chandelier to the hook, make sure that the decorative cup fits snugly against the ceiling

With a mounting plate

Plank fastening is found on modern luminaire models. The bar itself is a metal plate with holes for fasteners. This strip is attached to the prepared base directly through the ceiling sheet. You only need to cut a small hole for the wiring.

Important! Be careful not to damage the wiring cord when screwing the bar to the bar.

To facilitate work and not damage the lighting device, it is disassembled before installation. It is necessary to remove shades, lamps and hinged decorative elements.

With a cross bar

Mounting on a cruciform bar is not much different from hanging on a regular bar. Cruciform fasteners are commonly used for heavy chandeliers. The only caveat is in preparing the foundation. For obvious reasons, the bar is not suitable in this case.

Drill a hole in this platform for electrical wiring. To bring the platform to the height of the canvas, metal "legs" are used.

How to choose a dowel for attaching a chandelier

For internal work, use plastic dowels. Considering the possible external temperature effect of the fixture, it is preferable to use nylon-polyamide inserts.

If the ceiling in the room is concrete, spacers will be required. In the case where the ceilings are multi-layer structures with voids, it is better to use dowels.

The thickness of the element depends on the expected load. The suspended structure tends to pull the dowel out of the wall, so it is important that it has spacer antennae and notches that additionally hold the material in the skin.

To more reliably fix the element in the hole, you can use construction glue, they lubricate the dowel with it before driving. Do not try to screw the self-tapping screw thicker, it can split the liner. The use of spacer screws is considered correct.

Advice! A chandelier weighing 5 ÷ 10 kilograms is attached with an impact dowel with a diameter of 8 mm and a length of 80 mm. To complete the task, at least 4 dowels are required.

Master class for DIY: how to fix a lamp on a stretch ceiling

And now directly about how to fix the chandelier to the stretch ceiling. As already mentioned, it is necessary to follow a clear algorithm of actions and be puzzled in advance by the location of the lighting device and the preparation of the base.

We offer you a small master class on how to attach a chandelier to a stretch ceiling:

A photo Description of work

The first step will be to mark the location of the luminaire and pull on the cord to indicate the height of the canvas. The cord is pulled from the frame through the entire room.

A bar is attached to the main ceiling at the location of the chandelier. To do this, holes are drilled in the ceiling, dowels are inserted and the base is screwed in with self-tapping screws.

There can be several bars - depending on the height to which the fasteners need to be removed, or you can use metal "legs" that are easily adjustable in height. It is important to sand well the surface of the bar, which will be in contact with the canvas.

The wiring is passed under a bar or between two elements. So it will not stretch in case of an unforeseen situation.

To accurately bring the surface of the base to the level of dense, underlay elements are used. After stretching the PVC material.

A special glue for PVC is applied to the thermal ring for the hole.

Next, you should feel the base with your hands and glue the ring in the center directly onto the canvas. It will take time for the glue to dry.

A canvas is cut in the inner part of the ring. Be extremely careful not to damage the wiring. After that, a wire for connection is released into the hole.

Feel the position of the block and place the mounting plate correctly.

Screw on the mounting plate with self-tapping screws. Remember to insert the studs first.

Place the chandelier so that the studs enter the designated holes. Fix the luminaire with decorative bolts.

How to decorate the fixture of the lamp

If you have not forgotten to use a thermal ring, the fixing point of the chandelier will look neat anyway. A small hole will hide behind the base of the fixture. But if the interior design requires the creation of some additional element, use lightweight polyurethane sockets. They imitate

The emerging need to install a chandelier on the ceiling raises a number of questions from inexperienced craftsmen. In fact, there are no special difficulties in this matter - all you need is to understand two key stages of work, one of which is directly related to the installation of the chandelier, and the second - with the power supply. How to hang a chandelier from the ceiling will be discussed in this article.

Installation technology

To hang a chandelier, you must perform the following sequence of operations:

  • Understand the safety rules for the installation of electrical appliances;
  • Stock up on the necessary materials and tools;
  • Decide on the mounting method;
  • Mount a chandelier;
  • Test the installed device.

Before attaching a chandelier to the ceiling, it's worth learning more about each step.

Safety engineering

Electrical work is only possible if the safety regulations are observed. The need to comply with these rules is associated with a high danger of electric shock, which can lead to serious negative consequences both for the wiring and for the person installing the electrical appliance.

The most important rules that you need to know about before hanging a chandelier from the ceiling are as follows:

  • Before starting the electrical work, you need to turn off the electricity in the network (you do not need to turn off the whole house, just a separate room is enough);
  • It is imperative to check whether the light is really turned off in the room where the chandelier will be installed, and on the wires leading to the chandelier itself;
  • To connect individual wires to each other, you need to use terminal blocks, and not ordinary twisting - it is much less reliable;
  • It is better to bypass cheap terminal blocks - such products often fail;
  • All wiring must be properly grounded.

Preparation of materials and tools

Before attaching the chandelier, you need to prepare the following set of tools:

  • Drill or hammer drill;
  • Screwdriver (or a set of screwdrivers);
  • Indicator screwdriver;
  • Pliers.

Of the materials, in addition to the details of the chandelier itself, you will need:

  • Terminals for connecting cables;
  • Suitable fastener (hook or anchor);
  • Self-tapping screws and dowels.

Chandelier mounting methods

Before you hang the luminaire on the ceiling, you need to study the possible types of fasteners, each of which is suitable for specific installation conditions:

  • Installation on a hook - used for light chandeliers (if the product weighs more than 5 kg, the hook must be mounted using anchors);
  • Installation on a rail that is suitable for large-sized devices with a similar type of attachment;
  • Installation on the back cover of the luminaire - with the appropriate fixing and low weight, it turns out that hanging such a luminaire on the ceiling is obtained with minimal effort.

All presented methods of fixing chandeliers deserve more detailed consideration.

How to hang a chandelier on a hook

To implement this method of installation, a special hook is used, on one side of which there is a dowel. Before you hang the chandelier on the hook, you need to twist it into the ceiling. A loop, which is available in the design of the selected device, is subsequently suspended from it. Installation of such a mount is very simple and time-consuming.

However, despite all the convenience, the hook mount is not universal - it can only be used for wooden and concrete ceilings, i.e. the overlap must be monolithic. With plasterboard ceilings, this method will not work - the hook will simply tear out of insufficiently strong material, so you have to think about how to hang the lamp differently.

For heavy and large chandeliers, it is more advisable to use an anchor hook. This type of fastening is highly reliable and has excellent bearing capacity, and you don't even have to think about how to make a hook for a chandelier - you can just buy it. The anchor is screwed into the ceiling and expands, securely anchored in the ceiling. When using any kind of hooks, you need to select a chandelier with a decorative bowl that will cover the unattractive structural elements.

Plank mounting

If the chandelier provides for the possibility of installation on a bar, then the installation of the lighting device will take a little more time and labor. The fastener itself is a metal bar with two screws and nuts. The answer to the question of how to hang a chandelier with a bar is quite simple - the bar is fixed in the right place, after which the chandelier is hung close to it.

The option using a bar is somewhat more laborious compared to a hook fastening, but there are no particular difficulties in it. In order for the ceiling lights to be installed correctly on the strip, you just need to securely fix the fasteners in the selected area and adjust the gap between the screws to match the gap in the luminaire itself.

Rear cover installation

When figuring out how to attach a chandelier to the ceiling without a hook, you should pay attention to the lamps that are attached directly to the shade with self-tapping screws. The technology for installing such products is extremely simple - there are mounting holes in the back cover of the luminaire through which it is screwed directly to the desired place.

This mounting method can only be used with those luminaires that are lightweight. Typically, the back cover is mounted on a wall rather than a ceiling, but other options can be considered if necessary.

Connecting the chandelier to the network

The technology for connecting lighting devices to the mains can vary within certain limits, but there are practically no fundamental differences:

  1. With the hook, everything is quite simple - an installation hole is drilled in the ceiling, designed to drive in a dowel or anchor. A hook is inserted into the mount. The wires of the body and the mains are connected, insulated, after which the chandelier can be hung in its place.
  2. In the absence of a ground loop in the luminaire, only phase and zero need to be connected. In chandeliers made of metal, there is always grounding, so you have to connect not two wires, but three. Each individual core is connected to the terminal block according to the cable markings. If there are more than three wires in the luminaire body, it means that it has several lamps, and in this case, each of them must be connected to its own terminal. Of course, any connections are possible only if there is a switch and a machine on the panel.
  3. When mounting a lighting fixture by means of a bar, you always have to fiddle with adjusting the screws. The bar is fixed with dowels in the prepared area, after which the lamp is supplied to it. Of course, before the final suspension, you need to connect the cables of the device to the mains. During the installation process, it is imperative to ensure that the wires are connected correctly - incorrect connection of the contacts always leads to a short circuit.
  4. Mounting the lamp through the back cover is quite simple - several self-tapping screws are screwed into the existing holes, which press the device to the ceiling. If the weight of the selected luminaire is small, then you can get by with the minimum fastening - for example, if there are five holes, it will be enough to fix only three. The electrical connection is carried out in the same way as in the examples described above.

Regardless of how the chandelier was connected, after the completion of the work, it must be checked for operability and decorative properties. First of all, you need to inspect the assembled structure - various parts of the cables and other working elements should not stick out of it. Also, the lamp needs to be slightly shaken to check how securely it is fixed. Last of all, you need to turn on the machine on the dashboard - if it does not turn off, then everything works fine.

Chandelier installation in non-standard conditions

Sometimes in the process of work, various nuances arise (for example, the surface of the ceiling is uneven, and it is impossible to mount the mounts), so you need to figure out how to hang a chandelier in a non-standard situation:

  1. To install a chandelier on a stretch ceiling, the usual plank, which was discussed above, is most often used. In this case, it is necessary to mount the support structure for the luminaire before stretching the canvas, and it can be installed only after the entire ceiling is assembled. To understand in more detail, it is worth reading a separate article on how to hang a chandelier tightly to the ceiling with a stretch canvas.
  2. If the surface of the ceiling is inclined, then it is best to hang the chandelier on a chain. If there is a hole in the ceiling, it is best to use it, and not drill a new one - but here you need to look at how appropriate the location of the lamp at this point will be. You can use plaster shades to mask large holes.
  3. To move a previously installed luminaire to a new location, you need to make sure that the wiring already laid in the ceiling will not be damaged during operation. To detect hidden wiring, you should use a special metal detector.
  4. If the wires for connecting the chandelier are not marked, they must first be ringed with a multimeter - but it is needed only if three wires come out of the structure. To determine the purpose of each of the two cables, you can use a conventional indicator screwdriver, which glows when in contact with the phase.

Conclusion

This article discussed how to properly hang a chandelier from the ceiling. There are several different techniques, each of which has its own nuances, but in general they are all quite simple and quite suitable for self-installation.

Fixing the chandelier to the ceiling

When buying a new chandelier, the question of its correct and reliable attachment to the ceiling surface, as well as safe and correct connection to the home's electrical network, becomes relevant. This can be done without third-party help, so arm yourself with the necessary tools for installation, read our instructions and proceed with installation.

This article will discuss how to fix a chandelier to the ceiling with your own hands.

Fixing the chandelier with a mounting plate

Typically, there are two types of chandeliers:

  • Equipped with a fixing bar. The bar is mounted on the ceiling, and then the chandelier is attached to it directly.
  • Attached to a ceiling hook screwed securely into the ceiling. We will try to highlight in more detail how to attach a chandelier to the ceiling surface using each of these methods.

Advice! Before mounting the chandelier to the ceiling, remove the shades and other decorative elements of the chandelier. This will protect them from accidental damage, reduce the weight of the chandelier and make installation more convenient.

Mounting the mounting plate

Fixing the ceiling chandelier begins with mounting the fixing strip to the surface:

  1. To begin with, try on a chandelier to the place where its future fasteners are supposed... The decorative element of the chandelier, covering the place of attachment and wires, should fit tightly to the ceiling, without gaps and backlash.
  2. If at the installation site there is a hook from an old lamp, it is bent to the ceiling so that it does not interfere. It is not recommended to cut off the old hook, since your next chandelier may be fastened with it, and you will need to reinstall this type of fastener, which is impractical.
  3. Marking is carried out for fastening the mounting plate and fasteners for the chandelier are installed on the surface. To do this, the bar is applied to the ceiling in such a way that it does not interfere with the wiring connection, and with a pencil mark the attachment point. Next, holes are drilled and dowels are driven into them. Then fix the bar to the ceiling using screws. (read on).

Wiring connection

Before attaching the chandelier to the ceiling surface, it is necessary to connect the power supply wires provided in it to the power system of the house. Before connecting the chandelier, it is imperative to de-energize the home wiring and make sure that there is no voltage using the indicator.

The rules for connecting the chandelier to the mains are as follows:

  • In the presence of a one-button switch, the ceiling wiring under the chandelier usually consists of two or three wires - phase, zero and optionally a ground wire. The presence of a ground wire often depends on the time the house was built - in Soviet times, such a wire was extremely rare.
  • It is necessary to determine the purpose of each wire, both among the ceiling and among those available in the chandelier. The phase wire is usually hidden in black, brown or red insulation, the neutral wire in blue, and the ground wire in yellow-green.

  • Regardless of the presence of colored or other markings on the wires in the ceiling, they should be tested with an indicator screwdriver. To do this, you will need to turn on the current supply for a while. You should alternately touch the bare part of the wires and fix the indicator indicator. The illuminated indicator will indicate the phase wire, if the indicator does not light up, then the wire is neutral.

Advice! Do not forget to press the light buttons on the switch before checking the wires with the indicator.

  • Wires of the same type are connected through the terminals, and if there is a "no pair" wire (ground), it is isolated and pushed aside. After that, you can continue to further fix the chandelier to the ceiling.
  • A two-button switch assumes the presence of two-phase wires in the ceiling (see). Their connection is carried out, respectively, to the phase wires of the chandelier of the 1st and 2nd groups (if any). Neutral and ground wires are connected in the same way as in the first case.

Fastening the chandelier to the mounting bar

This can be done in the following way:

  1. The closing decorative element of the chandelier is attached to the strip and their connecting holes are matched.
  2. Decorative nuts are screwed into the holes, thereby finally attaching the lighting fixture to the ceiling.
  3. Lamps, shades and other decorative elements are mounted in their original place.

Fastening the chandelier to the ceiling surface in this way can be considered complete.

Fixing the chandelier with a ceiling hook

A ceiling chandelier mount such as a hook is often installed during the construction phase of a house, and if you have one, you should test it for strength. The hook test is to try to pull it off. To do this, you can pull or hang a load for it, comparable in weight or exceeding the weight of the chandelier, and let it hang for some time.

If the hook is fixed “tightly”, you can mount the chandelier to the concrete ceiling.

If it falls out or is simply not provided on the ceiling, you will need to mount it yourself:

  1. Drill a hole for it.
  2. Prepare and screw the metal anchor into the hole. It must be of such a diameter that it fits snugly against the walls of the hole during the screwing process.
  3. For installation in a wooden ceiling, you can use a self-tapping hook.
  4. When installing the chandelier on a plasterboard ceiling, the hook must be attached to the ceiling. The distance between the main ceiling and the plasterboard ceiling is overcome by means of a chain hook overhang equal to the length of the gap between the ceilings. It is to the chain that the ceiling chandelier is later attached.

Advice! For safety reasons, the metal hook must be carefully insulated.

We can assume that we figured out how to mount different types of chandeliers. We hope that our instructions are easy to understand, and you will be able to install the chandelier with your own hands with an eye on it without any problems.

For those who have not fully understood all the intricacies of the installation process, we recommend that you familiarize yourself with the video presented on our portal - how to fix a chandelier to the ceiling.

No matter how beautiful the ceiling in your apartment looks, a properly installed chandelier gives it a finished look. When buying a new lamp, many people think about how to hang it on a concrete ceiling. Overlaps made of durable concrete make it difficult to install hooks, and for this reason people turn to a master for help without trying to do the job on their own. And the design of lighting devices has become more complicated today. In fact, there is nothing difficult about attaching a chandelier to a concrete ceiling. It is important to follow the sequence of simple steps and not forget about safety. You can verify this by reading our article.

GETTING STARTED WITH THE WIRES

Old buildings also have old wiring without modern color coding. In the modern requirements of the PUE (Electrical Installation Rules), individual cable cores have different colors, by which you can immediately determine their purpose. Standard wires in modern chandeliers are also color-coded. In the factory version, they are assembled on a block, and their connection is spelled out in the accompanying passport.

The phase wire is usually indicated in black, white or brown - there is no single standard for manufacturers here. Neutral (zero) is blue or blue. The grounding conductor is commonly used to highlight the yellow braid with a green stripe.

Before starting work on installing the chandelier, you need to understand the purpose of all the wires in the ceiling wiring and inside the lamp. If all this is new, then the connection will take place without problems - we just connect the wires with the same marking on the block.

IF NO MARKING

If you can't figure out the purpose of the wires by color, we will do it with the help of instruments. It's easy to do, the main thing is to comply with electrical safety standards. To do this, we need a phase indicator - a device that shows the presence of phase voltage at the ends of the wire. In a simplified form, it looks like a regular screwdriver, but consists of a plastic case, a conductive rod and a signal LED. At the end of the probe (as the device is popularly called) there is a metal terminal. Determining the presence of voltage is simple: we take the probe with the thumb and middle fingers of the hand, like a pen, and press the end terminal with the index. We touch the bare wires with a metal sting - the indicator on the phase wire will light up. It is recommended to carry out such a check with one hand, without touching the wires with the other, otherwise you may accidentally get "the most vivid impressions in your life."

WE CONTINUE TO WORK WITH THE PROBE

To carry out work, you need to completely de-energize the room. We carefully remove the old lamp and check the absence of voltage on all wires one by one. We separate all the wires of the wiring to the sides so that they do not touch. Turn on the power supply and the chandelier switch again. We determine the phase wire with the indicator and mark the neutral conductor in a way that we understand. It may happen that in the ceiling you find three wires coming out. This means that the chandelier was connected in two stages. In this case, you need to turn on both keys and find one zero and two phase wires, accurately marking them. After disconnecting one key, make sure that the phase on one wire has disappeared. Then disconnect the second key and make sure that there is no voltage on the second wire either. In this case, you can connect the chandelier according to the existing two-stage wiring diagram.

WE MAKE A CHANDELIER CALL

Chandelier wires are made in doubtful cases, and for this it is better to use a regular multimeter. With a metal chandelier case, one of the three wires can be ground. To find it, we put one of the probes on the metal of the case, and with the second we touch the bare part of the wires. The sound of the multimeter will indicate the ground wire. Zero wire (neutral) can be easily identified by the control sound if one probe is pressed against the side contact of any chandelier holder, while the other we alternately touch the unidentified wires. Thus, the remaining wires will be phase.

If you have a multi-track chandelier with a two-stage connection scheme, then one or more cartridges can be connected to each phase wire. To accurately determine their relationship with the switch key, we connect the multimeter probe to one of the phase wires and consistently touch the central contacts inside the cartridges. We determine the actual connection by the sound signal.

If the purchased lamp has several switching stages, and you have only one phase wire in the wiring, then you will have to connect all the cartridges to it. To do this, we will connect all the phase wires of the chandelier together on one block.

EXPERT TIPS

Old houses often have aluminum wires. But it is unacceptable to connect copper and aluminum wires to each other by twisting. They quickly form a corrosive layer and the contact density will be broken. This will lead to heating and melting of the insulation - to a short circuit. Connect copper and aluminum wires only using a special WAGO terminal with insulating paste.

WE WILL PREPARE EVERYTHING NECESSARY FOR INSTALLATION

Prepare a stable ladder, indicator and multimeter in advance. All electrical tools: screwdrivers, pliers, knife and hammer must have insulated handles. You will need a hammer drill or hammer drill to drill holes in a concrete ceiling. From the fasteners, a expansion anchor, self-tapping screws and dowels are used. For the connection of the contacts, we will use screw or spring express terminals, electrical tape or caps such as PPE.

FASTENING THE CHANDELIER ON THE HOOK

Weighty chandeliers on a long rod have a special loop for hanging on a hook, which, after installation, is closed with a decorative cap. If there is no hook on your ceiling, then you will have to install it yourself. To do this, it is better to use a expansion anchor that can withstand heavy loads. The anchor is driven into the drilled hole until it stops, and then the hook is screwed on.

When installing a chandelier, it is better to remove all bulbs and fragile parts from it. Having hung the case on the fixed hook, we connect the wires to the block. All wires must be carefully laid inside the decorative bowl and fixed with a minimum gap at the ceiling. The bowl is usually fixed to the stem with a gasket or a small screw. After that, we screw in the bulbs, put on the shades, turn on the mains voltage and use the switch to check the performance of the chandelier.

WE INSTALL THE CHANDELIER ON THE MOUNTING PLATE

Most ceiling-mounted luminaires are mounted on a mounting strip or decorative bracket. The installation of such a chandelier consists of two stages: installing a plank on the ceiling and then attaching the chandelier itself to it. If there is an old hook in this place, then it must be unscrewed or cut off. We first apply the bar to the ceiling to indicate the coordinates of the attachment. We drill the ceiling under the dowels to the required depth. It is necessary to pay attention to the tightness of the installation of the dowels into the holes and, if necessary, seal them with a cement-adhesive mixture. Having installed the bar using self-tapping screws, then we fix the lamp to the bar using standard screws. We check the operation of the chandelier with a switch and admire the result of our work. It’s not the gods who burn the pots! And in this work there is nothing difficult for your skillful hands.
