Important! Of course, having a machine at home, you can make them yourself, but this will also require certain skills.

Preparing the boards:

  4. Along the edges, four squares are needed so that their sides are 10 cm.

Connecting table parts

Take two square blanks 10 cm wide and 10 cm long, lay a board 145 cm long on top of their ends, screw them into the end with two screws. Repeat this manipulation again, make two more blanks to make the upper and lower parts of the structure.

Screwing on the legs:

  1. Place three legs on a board 150 cm long and 10 cm thick, measuring the points of their location.
  2. Screw them on at these marked points.
  3. Cover the holes with wooden plugs so that you end up with an element that can stand on its own feet.

Top shaping:

  1. Step back 2.5 cm from the edge, place the resulting workpiece on top of the board and generously grease with wood glue on both sides.
  2. Place another board on top of it.
  3. Fasten the end piece at the bottom near the extreme legs on the right and left with screws.

Making the bottom

Repeat the above procedure with the bottom of the boards to make your final table ready to paint. It is better to clean it additionally with sandpaper.

Finished structure processing

Paint the table in a way that works best for you.

As a result of the work done, you will receive a durable, original, stylish do-it-yourself console table. The master class given in this section will allow you to do everything clearly and without the help of professionals.

What are balusters and their varieties?

We previously looked at how to make a cantilever structure using pre-made store-bought legs, but it can look more attractive if you make your own supports. Next, we will consider in detail how to make table legs from a baluster. But first, let's figure out what it is. Why exactly from a baluster?

The fact is that these carved columns have a very original shape, thanks to which they were previously widely used in architecture by the ancient Romans and Greeks. Modern architecture does not require the presence of such decorations, but, nevertheless, balusters are often used to equip stairs, balconies and pieces of furniture. By themselves, they are functional due to their unusual shape. Depending on this parameter, balusters are divided into three types:

  1. In the form of bodies of revolution. Outwardly, they resemble a regular cylinder or a flowerpot of arbitrary shape. They are made on lathes, thanks to which each post has a finished look. This form is considered the most popular.
  2. Slotted. They are made of boards, so they are mainly used in attics, that is, technical stairs. Decorate them with figured through holes.
  3. Sculptural. Such balusters have a more complex arbitrary shape, in fact, therefore, they are made exclusively by hand or using a machine with a large number of axes.

Important! Today they are produced from a variety of materials - it can be stone, concrete, wood, polymer compounds.

How to make your own hallway console with balusters?

Now we will learn how to make a table with baluster legs with our own hands. Most importantly, you can use an old regular table for this. Or just take an old countertop and get beautiful baluster legs.

Important! This is a great opportunity to save money and get a new, high-quality, original decor element. Such furniture is ideal for narrow hallways. You have little space in the corridor, do you adore miniature gizmos, do you like classic style? Then you will definitely like this idea.

To work you will need:

  • Rectangular table or table top.
  • Two baluster legs.
  • A piece of fabric 30 cm, 1.2 m wide.
  • Aerosol adhesive for fabrics.
  • Jigsaw.
  • Screwdriver.
  • Scissors.
  • Pencil.
  • Roulette.
  • Self-tapping screws.
  • Sandpaper.
  • Metal corner.
  • Masking tape.

Such a console table is made with your own hands without legs or with them according to the following scheme:

  1. If you use a table for work, then saw it lengthwise into two parts. Use a pencil and tape measure to mark up. Sand the edges to avoid scratches.
  2. Attach the baluster legs to the base on both sides.
  3. Attach metal corners on the back of our tabletop so that one is clearly in the center, the other two are at the edges.
  4. Cover the edges of the table with masking tape. Prepare a piece of cloth, spray glue on the table surface.
  5. Place a cloth on the countertop, taking care not to form bubbles. Cut off the remaining fabric around the edges.
  6. After the glue is dry, remove the tape.
  7. Attach the free part of our bracket to the wall so that there are no gaps between the console and the wall.

What could be better than a nice comfortable table? Maybe two such tables? Or the same table, but much more compact? How to turn the most ordinary table into a narrow console table with your own hands, moreover, with two legs. Or divide it in two and make a shelving unit. Do you know?

How to make an elegant console out of an ordinary table. You can create a real exclusive from a sawn table with your own hands. Surely you admired them in stores, where prices often "bite". But you can make such a "piece copy" yourself. And it will come out much cheaper than the store version.

The best part is that this table can be made absolutely from any high table. You can even take an old countertop and screw nice legs to it. And there are plenty of ways to decorate this item.

◆ Master class №1. ◆ Bedside table on two legs from a sawn table.

You will need an old dining table, wood paint and 2 sticks.

1. Shorten the legs, because the side (or bedside) table is usually lower than the dining table.

2. It is necessary to cut the table not along the long part, but along the short one.

3. A product painted in a bright color (with a brush or spray gun) looks especially impressive.

4. A stable position is fixed not with corners, but with a pair of bars (approximately 1/2 of the width of the already sawn-off tabletop). They must be connected together and screwed to the wall. A ready-made bedside table is "put on" on top.

◆ Master class №2. ◆ Two consoles from one sawn round table.

One of them (yellow) became a console under the TV in the bedroom. The second one (painted blue) acts as a bedside table in the hallway.

1. Take an old round table, remove old paint or varnish, sand down any unevenness. Apply a primer.

2. Saw the tabletop with a jigsaw into 2 equal parts.

3. Sand the edges and paint in colors you like and match the color palette of the room.

Console tables differ from ordinary tables in that they are fully or partially attached to the wall. This table is made complete with a mirror, and is intended for the bedroom. But this is not the only place to place it. This option can be very appropriate in the hallway.

A console table takes up noticeably less space than an ordinary one, so its use in a limited space of a bedroom or hallway may be the best option.

You can make such a dressing table from a variety of materials, including laminated chipboard, but of course this is a last resort. In this version, the table is made of solid pine.

Console table with two drawers, part dimensions.

General dimensions of the table: Width 1000 mm. , depth 400 mm. , height 200 mm. ...

Tabletop dimensions - Width 1000 mm. , depth 400 mm. , thickness 30 mm. All items of this bedroom set are made in a certain style, therefore
the thickness of the parts of the table top, side walls and facades is made more than usual.

Sidewalls: The length of the parts is 400 mm. , width 170 mm. , thickness 30 mm. , two pieces.

Middle partition: Part length 370 mm. , width 160 mm. , thickness 30 mm. ...

Table bottom: Width 960 mm. , depth 370 mm. , thickness 10-12 mm. ... The bottom of the table is made of furniture plywood 10 mm. ...

Drawers: Width 430 mm. , depth 350 mm. , height 130 mm. , two boxes. Drawer bodies can be made of 16-20 mm planed boards. , the bottom of boxes made of plywood 4 mm.

Drawer fronts: Width 453 mm. , height 170 mm. , thickness 30 mm. , two pieces. The top and bottom edges are cut with 50 mm wide edges. and a depth along the edge of 12 mm.

Assembling the table.

1. We put the sides flush, flush with the ends and the front edge of the table top. We screw on the furniture corners, I used hard corners with bolts, with metal fittings. All the same, the whole table hangs almost on the table top.

2. On the lower edges of the sidewalls, use a hand router to cut a quarter of 10/10 mm. to install the bottom. We do a quarter before reaching 30 mm. to the front ends of the sidewalls, level the angle with a chisel.

3. We mark the middle partition by sliding it inward by 30 mm. against the front edge of the table top. This is done because the drawers, when in use, slide into the inside of the table, flush with the sides and the tabletop, we attach them to the corners to the tabletop.

4. Insert the bottom into quarters on the sidewalls, and screw it with self-tapping screws to the edges of the sidewalls and the middle partition. The bottom also slides inward by 30 mm. , and is aligned with the front end of the middle partition. When closing, the boxes rest against the edge of the bottom and partitions with front strips.

5. We install boxes on roller or telescopic guides, 350 mm long. We fasten the facades with self-tapping screws from the inside of the drawers, as well as the drawers for the bedside tables, the link at the top of this article. You can hang the table on the wall using special awnings for heavy kitchen cabinets.

Mirror to the bedroom.

This table will be used as a dressing table, so a mirror for it can be said for sure. Here the mirror is large enough, hung over the table on the wall.

The mirror is assembled in the form of a frame with corners cut into a "mustache", i.e. at an angle of 45 *.

Overall dimensions: Height 1100 mm. , width 1000 mm. , the thickness of the parts is 30 mm. , the width of the frame bars is 150 mm. ... Faces with a width of 50 mm are made along the edges of the parts. , at an angle of 10-11 *.

When assembling, at the ends of the parts, I made 10/10/150 mm sockets with a hand mill. for thorns. I glued the frame with long clamps. If there are none, then the frame can be wedged on the table, or in extreme cases, the corners can be pulled together with long self-tapping screws from the side of the edges, the hats can be immediately drowned and sealed with wooden plugs.

From the inside, along the inner edges, a quarter for glass was also made with a hand mill. The width of a quarter can be any, and try to make the depth according to the calculation of the thickness of the mirror + the thickness of the plywood. Plywood 3-4 mm. the mirror closes from the back. You can fix the mirror with ordinary mirror clamps. To put it simply, these are plastic or metal washers that are attracted by self-tapping screws.

The first few days after the onset of the new year, we rested, lay on the couch, went to the children's theater, watched a movie and read books. In general, we rested. But before the new year, we decided that on these long New Year's holidays we should do some kind of home project. They chose a console table for the sofa in the living room.

The project was supposed to be economical, so don't judge strictly :) Again, this is the second piece of furniture that we make with our own hands.

Therefore, after the start of the normal operation of the stores, we went to buy balusters, which will be our table legs. The best choice we have in St. Petersburg balusters for the most common stairs in Metrika on the Vyborg highway. All the pleasure cost us 830 rubles for 6 balusters.

We bought a furniture board in Maksidom, it is an ordinary pine, 18 mm thick. Balusters 50 mm in diameter. We also bought a 20 mm (thickness) board for the project.

Well, one more new acquisition of ours is a circular saw. Forgive neighbors and thank you for your patience. :)

We shortened the legs a little, because the height of the balusters is 900 mm, which is too much even for a console table.

For the assembly, we will again use our beloved Kreg.

We saw how to use Kreg to connect the legs to the table in one of my favorite blogs - at Anna White.

The table will be made of 6 balusters with a total length of 1800 mm (almost the entire length of the sofa). Therefore, we collected it in parts. Here is one of the halves:

We attach the lower shelf to the table in the same way as the table top:

A more detailed plan of how to do this, we again spied on the blog of Anna White. Thank you very much. Her blog is just a treasure trove of useful information.

Small bridges were made to strengthen the structure and align it.

And now our table is already slowly acquiring a more or less finished look before painting it:

In some places, I just smeared the cracks formed with a putty for wood:

The concept of a console table appeared during the reign of Louis the fourteenth. In those distant times, these interior items were very popular, they are in no less demand nowadays. Console tables have a variety of designs, but they have one thing in common: console, which means narrow. Such furniture is very convenient to use in small rooms, it does not take up much space and not far away from the wall.

We will not speculate about the variations of the console table models, because there are countless numbers of them. Let's say about the scope of this piece of furniture. Furniture looks great in hallways and living rooms, acting as an alternative to the sideboard.

The console table in the hallway has both decorative and practical significance.

In the living room, the consoles are replaced by the tables attached to the sofas.

You can turn this furniture into a kind of mini-bar, or place a photo on it in frames. An original idea to use a console table in a boudoir or to store cosmetics.

Store the keys in the hallway on the table, put a candlestick or a picture on it. And in the bedroom space, it is allowed to mount a "dividend player" or a TV on the console.

Step 2. Cut the board. To create the top and bottom of the table, use a 3-meter board, ten centimeters thick, 20 inches wide. Cut the board with a saw. You will need four boards that are 150 centimeters long. Cut the parts with a saw.

Cutting the board to make the top and bottom of the table

Four planks with a thickness of ten centimeters and a length of 145 will go to the table. You will put them in a vertical position, attaching them to the previously cut boards. Four squares will be placed at the edges, as you can see in the picture.

4 boards for the top and bottom of the console table, 150 cm long

Additional four boards 10 cm wide and 145 cm long for vertical installation and 4 squares 10 cm each side

Step 3. Connecting works. Take square parts that are ten centimeters wide, and put a board one hundred and forty-five centimeters long on their end part. Unscrew the structure with the screws. In the same way, repeating your actions, make the lower and upper blanks for the future table.

We connect square elements and boards with a length of 145 cm, we make two blanks for the top and for the bottom of the table

Step 4. Don't forget about the legs. We take the legs purchased in advance and screw them to a board that has a length of one hundred and fifty centimeters. Before these works, do not forget to properly mark the places where you plan to install the legs. Close the holes with the plugs.

We fasten the legs to the points of their placement

Step 5. Make the top of the table. Step back two and a half centimeters from the edge and place the blank structure you created earlier. Lubricate both sides with wood glue. Put a plate on the blank, you will get a semblance of a rectangular pie.

We form the top of the table using our blanks

Put the board on top of the workpiece again and fasten it

Step 6. Bottom of the table. Since our table will have the same top and bottom, you will need to repeat the fifth step in relation to making the bottom of the future table. When you do all the work, you will have a real masterpiece that should be cleaned with sandpaper.

We repeat the same procedure with the lower part and we get a finished console table.

Decorating

Ready painted table in the living room interior

We advise you to simply paint the resulting table. A wide range of different wood varnishes are now on sale. For example, coat the table with a walnut finish and use petroleum jelly to lubricate the structure after the paint has dried. Apply the last layer of gray paint (when this coating dries, sand the end elements). As a result, you will get a shabby table with beautiful legs. This piece of art is perfect for any living room or hallway. As you understand, making a table is very simple.
