How to make a home climbing wall with your own hands - detailed instructions and cost of materials. Children's climbing walls Climbing for children at home

Children's climbing wall is an excellent simulator for developing dexterity, flexibility, coordination of movements and motor skills. Plus, it's tons of fun and enjoyment! We tell you how to build a home climbing wall yourself.

Materials and tools:

  • Plywood sheet 240 x 120 cm, 21 mm thick. You can change the size of the climbing wall as you wish.
  • Wooden beam 3x5 cm with a total length of 360 cm;
  • Climbing holds 30 pcs.;
  • Perforator;
  • Hammer;
  • Hand saw or electric saw;
  • 30 10 mm bulldog nuts and the same number of 55 mm bolts;
  • Dowels and nails for them 5 mm, 8 pcs.;
  • Drills for 6 and 12 mm;
  • Self-tapping screws 4 mm;
  • Hex key;
  • Drill for a 6 mm perforator;
  • Paint on wood if desired.

Now let's get to work:

  • We process the plywood sheet with a grinder, remove all burrs and bumps. We carefully grind the chamfers so that the child does not get hurt during the game.
  • We place the plywood sheet horizontally and drill 30 arbitrary through holes with a diameter of 12 mm. Distribute them so that per 1 sq. m boards accounted for about 15 holes at a distance of 20-25 cm from each other.
  • If you decide to make the climbing wall bright, it's time to get out the paints and paint the plywood board. Wait until the paint is completely dry before moving on.
  • We drive a mortise nut into each drilled hole. Use a hammer for this.

  • We collect the frame from the bars. Place them around the perimeter of the plywood blank and connect them together from the ends with self-tapping screws so that you get a frame.
  • We drill two 6 mm holes in the frame on the left, right, top and bottom. We attach the frame to the wall and, using it as a stencil, outline the holes for drilling. We remove the frame, drill holes with a puncher and insert dowels. We attach the frame and drive in the dowel-nails. The frame is fixed.
  • We attach the plywood sheet with mortise nuts to the wall and fix it along the edges with a screwdriver and self-tapping screws.

  • We hang the hooks with 55 mm bolts and a hex wrench. We test them for strength. If everything is in order, we spread mats on the floor, call the child and start the first climbing lesson!

A home climbing wall can be made on almost any surface. Here are some ideas for inspiration

Life in the modern world is fast paced. And, of course, this affects training. I am sure that many have had periods when they did not have time to go to the gym. Some give up at such moments, do nothing and wait for a good chance, unexpected free time to go to the climbing wall. Some do not want to lose shape and do various exercises at home: push-ups, pull-ups, pumping the press, those who have a fingerboard do hangs. And some do something radical - they build a home climbing wall and practice on it when there is a little free time before work or after. In this article, I will show you how to build a small indoor climbing wall.

Building a climbing wall with your own hands is not difficult.

Before you start building a climbing wall, think about what goals it should fulfill, where it will be located. Based on this, the dimensions, the slope of the climbing wall, which hooks need to be purchased will be clear.

So that the construction of the climbing wall is not delayed, first of all order the holds. Typically, the production of hooks and delivery takes one to two weeks. During this time, you can think about the plan of the climbing wall and build a climbing wall. After that, the matter remains small - to wind the hooks.

The reliability of the structure depends on the thickness and quality of the wall on which the climbing wall will be attached. If the wall is load-bearing, you can safely attach wooden guides to it (wooden beams 40x40 mm, more depending on the complexity of the design), and then plywood panels with a thickness of 12 mm or more. If the wall is thin, you need to consider additional fastening of the beams for structural rigidity, in some cases it may be necessary to use iron guides and corners.

For a home climbing wall, I chose a free wall in the corridor. In order not to make horizontal guides, it was decided to increase the number of vertical beams to four.

I sawed the beams and shields in a hardware store. The store where I bought the shields provides a free cut to the size you need. The advantages of shop sawing are an even cut (I was not lucky, the master was in a hurry and cut a couple of shields a little inaccurately), saving time and effort. Therefore, before you go to the store, make a clear plan of the climbing wall, write down all the dimensions. Think about what else you need, calculate the number of dowels and screws. This will reduce the number of trips to the store.

To attach the beams to the wall, I used Fischer dowels measuring 8 x 65 mm and self-tapping screws measuring 6 x 90 mm.

After installing the guides, you can move on to the shields. At the planning stage, I had the idea to make a wall with small screw holes. For their installation, only a wooden, even base is required. But in the course of purchasing materials, I decided to make several holes for the bolt hooks (passive hooks). To install bolt hooks, you will need to make holes with a diameter of 11.5 mm in them before installing the shields and insert a drive nut with a 10 mm thread, which is called a bulldog.

Driving nut:

Installing shields is not difficult. We set the shield according to the level and fasten it with self-tapping screws measuring 5 by 50 mm to the guides.

After installing the skeleton and facing the climbing wall, I proceeded to leveling the surface of the climbing wall. Sandpaper removed the unevenness of the plywood, and also walked along the edges of the climbing wall.

The problem of lack of motor activity in children is becoming more and more urgent. especially for urban dwellers.

And if in good weather a child can throw out excess energy at least on the playground near the house, then in rain or severe frost this becomes impossible.

However, the energy does not go anywhere, and the lack of movement leads to whims and a bad mood. You can solve the problem with installation of sports equipment in the apartment, in particular, a children's climbing wall.

Home climbing wall for children: what is it

In its simplest form, a climbing wall is vertical surface with small protrusions located in a certain way, depending on the complexity of the route. A more extreme option implies the presence of additional inclined planes.

Photo 1. Climbing wall for children, made in the home. The design has several planes.

The main advantage of the climbing wall is that it does not take up much space in the room. The presence of such a sports equipment will help the child not only throw out excess energy, but also improve coordination, improve body flexibility, train strong hands and tenacious fingers. Rock climbing develops perseverance, visual memory and logical thinking.

Geometry and dimensions of the climbing wall will depend on the size of the free space, which is planned to be allocated for his device. The easiest option for placing a climbing wall is one of the walls of the room. If space allows, you can build a corner climbing wall on two adjacent walls. An advanced variant is a projectile with a negative slope. In a standard-plan apartment with room height 2.5—2.8 m it is advisable to make the simulator under the ceiling.

How to make a wall for children's rock climbing at home

A self-made climbing wall is plywood shield reinforced around the perimeter with a wooden beam.

For reliability, the structure is additionally reinforced with stiffeners from the same beam in the center, and, if necessary, in other places.

Special children's hooks are screwed onto the fixed shield, which are artificial stones of various shapes and sizes.

You can buy them in specialized sports stores or order online. The hooks should not be too small so that the child's arms and legs do not get tired.

Reference. Quality climbing wall holds are made from a mixture of quartz sand and polymeric materials. The surface of such products is rough, which allows the hands and feet not to slip during lifting.

At the initial stage, smaller stones are placed at the bottom and serve as a support for the legs. As the skill of the child grows, small holds can be moved higher, turning into handholds.

Design and calculation of the necessary materials

For the manufacture of climbing wall need:

  • plywood thick 10-15 mm;
  • wooden beam 40*70mm;
  • dowels and bolts with a countersunk head for attaching the timber to the wall;
  • self-tapping screws for connecting the frame and base;
  • set of hooks and fasteners to them;
  • hexagon for tightening bolts;
  • drill or screwdriver with a drill bit 11 mm;
  • emery skin;
  • paint and decorative elements as desired.

The first step will be the design future climbing wall. Having decided on the location, it is required to calculate the required amount of materials. The footage of plywood directly depends on the area of the future simulator. Number of hooks - 5-7 pieces per 1 sq. m. If the fasteners are not included with them, then you will need to purchase it additionally.

Generally suitable for connection furniture nut DIN 1624 M10(the so-called bulldog) having "antennae" along the edges, digging into the surface of the plywood. The nuts will need the appropriate size bolts DIN 912 M10, tightened with a hexagon. The easiest option is to take the hold with you to the store, where sellers will pick up fasteners suitable for the climbing wall.

Wireframe creation

At the second stage, the frame of the future climbing wall is created. Holes are drilled along the perimeter of the base in the wall in increments of 50-55 cm into which plastic dowels are driven.

To give the structure additional strength, several stiffeners should be added by screwing inside the perimeter parallel to the floor surface 2-3 planks of timber.

The length and diameter of the dowels are selected depending on the material of the walls, and the size of the bolt is calculated by the formula: sheet thickness + beam thickness + dowel length. Countersunk head bolts should be taken, since plywood will be screwed on top of the frame.

Attention! It is forbidden to attach a climbing wall or the holds themselves to drywall constructions!

Foundation preparation

This can be done independently using a manual milling cutter or order a cut - often sellers of building materials offer such a service. Ready basis mark for future holes.

The best option is mesh with a step of 20-25 cm horizontally and vertically, which in the future will allow you to rearrange the holds, creating new routes of varying complexity on the climbing wall.

Then a drill with a drill 11 mm(provided that bulldog nut diameter 10 mm) holes are made. The procedure is carried out on the front side so that possible chips are on the back. After that, a "bulldog" is driven into each hole from the back. The finished base is screwed to the frame using self-tapping screws of the appropriate length, if necessary, processed with emery cloth and coated with paint.

Installing the holds

The last step will be installation of holds, which are fixed in the selected holes with bolts tightened with a hexagon. This climbing wall design allows you to easily change the location of the stones, complicating or simplifying the route.

At first glance, screwing the plywood sheet directly to the wall may seem like a simpler option, however not always possible to find the right length of bolts for hooks, which leads to difficulties in tightening.

Let's find out why the CLIMBING ROOM is a guaranteed SAFE EXTREME?

In Sweden, all elements over 1 meter from which children could fall and be injured have been removed from playgrounds. Thus, children's leisure was safe.

Thanks to this step, the percentage of child injuries has doubled. What is it connected with? Due to the fact that children constantly want to climb somewhere, not satisfying this need, the children began to massively climb trees and dangerous places that were not intended for this (with a complete absence of soft mats and safety systems).

At the end of an unsuccessful experiment, the Swedish government completely changed the course of development: now a large number of playgrounds are created every year, where there is an outdoor climbing wall of medium height.

Special safety mats as a means of insurance

The first case is special, here insurance is made thanks to thick mats, which are completely safe.

We note that the height of the climbing wall, the thickness and stiffness of the mats are calculated by CK FormAT specialists, based on standard solutions. Also on the basis of an individual order for a certain age group, taking into account all the characteristics of customers.

For example, we cannot recommend the use of mats at a height of more than 3 meters without special training. At the same time, absolutely every novice child can safely start climbing up to 3 meters. Initially, it is desirable under the supervision of parents, but after several classes, you can safely leave the child (from 7 years old) alone. At the same time, parents must be present at the first classes in order to personally verify that it is completely safe.

Auto Belay System = increased security

For climbing walls over 4.5 m, the use is mandatory.

It is possible to use mechanical, semi-automatic and automatic belay systems. We note that even with mechanical (in other words, manual belay), you do not need a professional instructor if you are an amateur beginner. Enough of one more person who has read our instructions, where everything is clearly and extremely clearly spelled out. Automatic belay allows a person to overcome high-altitude routes on a climbing wall without the involvement of other people. Such insurance is the safest.

For the manufacture of home and children's climbing walls, we use only environmentally friendly and safe materials that have been tested and are best suited for children. In particular, for the manufacture of popular climbing walls, we use, which is designed for professional sports climbing walls and can withstand a static and dynamic load of more than 200 kg. The plywood sheet goes through a detailed sanding process and finished with safe paint and layers of non-toxic lacquer for longer life.

As for embossed, unlike a number of manufacturers, we are guided primarily by the safety, durability and environmental friendliness of materials. In particular, we use epoxy resin as one of the components, which is many times more environmentally friendly and stronger than polyester resin, which is used by most manufacturers due to its ease of use and low cost. Yes, polyester resins are cheaper and easier to manufacture, but we definitely will not save on the health of children, since the very idea of children's home and, in general, all climbing walls is a healthy lifestyle.

“Don't go there! Don't trample the beds! Why did you climb into the flower bed?!” Often, children outside the city have even more restrictions than at home. A trip to a dacha or a suburban area becomes a real stress, because a young creature is pulled out of its familiar environment. It is too spacious here, there is too much oxygen and what to do here is completely incomprehensible. Sometimes they are forced to do unusual work, sometimes they are left to themselves and the children do not know what to do with themselves ...

At the cottage - fun! Such an attitude will allow a little person to love life outside the city. What is there in your country estate that you won't find at home? Fascinating and entertaining, making you move and breathe deeply with fresh country air ... The most popular and simple options are a slide, a sandbox, a pool, a trampoline and a swing. And if you make a rope maze or a climbing wall? We offer you a few ideas that can be implemented on the site and that the child will definitely like.

Landscaping for kids

Allocate a small corner for the child in the country and build a real village with him there with houses, paths and toy residents (baby dolls or Lego men can play their role).

In the gardens of his village, your little one can plant flowers and herbs, just choose the safest ones. In no case do not decorate your tiny village with lilies of the valley, do not plant irises nearby (their roots are considered poisonous), there is no place for delphinium, foxglove and buttercups. Working together with the baby in his personal summer cottage, talk about plants, their benefits and possible harm.

When you choose a place for a children's corner in the country, make sure that evil nettles and prickly wild roses do not grow nearby, and the fence boards are sanded and will not reward the child with a splinter. Make sure that the mini-village is in the shade during sunny hours, as a toddler who has played too much may refuse to leave his property.

House for children in the country

There are many ready-made proposals and a lot of descriptions of how to make a house for children with your own hands. Tree houses are popular abroad. And we offer you to grow a playhouse for a child! Of course, it will take much more time, but you can plant seeds and choose plants with your baby.

Green shelter for young summer residents can be grown from sunflowers. Draw a circle, free its contours from the grass and plant sunflower seeds close to each other.

When the sunflowers have grown (they should be about a meter and a half tall), tie the flower heads together. It turned out a hut-house in which you can hide from your parents.

A similar hut can be made from legumes. Such tepee trellises are sometimes made only for decoration, and your baby can be presented with one such playhouse.

At the beginning of the summer season, install the base sticks, securely fastening them at the top. Plant the plants and adjust the direction as they grow, they should tend upward and braid the base. A hut in the country can be planted from beans, but it is better if it is tall sweet peas. When the pods are ripe, the children will play and feast on the fresh peas. In addition, this plant improves the soil by enriching it with nitrogen.

School board in the country

Children love to draw on walls and fences. This natural desire has long been described by psychologists - kids perceive the world in full size, so they even prefer to draw a simple man the size of themselves. So let them draw what they want on the big board. It can be chalk or marker, it already depends on your preferences. Teenagers also draw with pleasure, as they associate the board with a school where free artists are not given free will. Do you remember your wonderful school years?

Outdoor track for kids

This track will look great on the lawn. If it is not there, then an uncultivated corner of the garden, overgrown with soft grass, will also do. To make a race track you will need sand and cement, a motorcycle or bicycle tire, flags, paint and two hollow tubes that will imitate barriers that cars can crash into.

Draw a track and cut off the turf (the depth will be about 5-10 cm), install the tire in the planned place so that it protrudes from the ground in a semicircle - it will imitate a tunnel. If you install the tire a little obliquely, then it can become a "dead loop" for desperate racers.

Fill the finished trench with a mixture of sand and cement, install the pipes and smooth the surface of the route with a trowel. When the track is dry, draw the markings, check the boxes and call the child to play.

Rope park at your own dacha

A few meters of a simple clothesline will make your baby squeal with delight. Between the trees (there should be at least four of them), it is necessary to stretch the cord in a chaotic manner, and let the baby try to get through this web.

A country imitation of a rope park will bring joy to both children and adults. Try to overcome the obstacle course yourself - it's not so easy and very funny. Try not to get confused and be sure to keep an eye on your child as they have fun in the rope maze.

Do-it-yourself swing in the country: three budget options

A good gift for the summer holidays that the child will have to spend in the country can be a huge swing. They can be made from a wooden pallet, tied with a rope to a strong bough of a large tree. The costs are minimal, and your baby and his friends will have plenty of delight!

Do not forget to sometimes check if the rope is frayed and if the branch to which the wooden pallet is tied is cracking. Safety first.

Swing from an old chair

You can turn an old chair or an obsolete wooden chair into a swing by hanging them on the branch of a tall and strong tree.

Find an unnecessary chair and eliminate the legs. Attach two boards under the bottom of the seat with screws, and tie a rope to these boards. In order not to damage the tree, place a piece of thick leather or other material on the selected branch under the rope to protect the branch from abrasion.

Paint the swing in a bright color, then it will become a creative design element of your garden. And the kids will have a lot more fun!

A skate rocking chair is perfect for active and mobile children, because it is more convenient to swing on it while standing, rather than sitting. The author claims that it took him only 20 minutes to make this swing. The author of the skate rocking chair was helped by his sons. Fathers and sons united to have fun with benefit!

What you need: skateboard (old or new), strong rope, a pair of rounded sticks, a drill. You or your little helpers need to remove the wheels and drill holes in the board.

Pass the cord through the holes, securing the connection points with knots.

You can make "handles" so that the child is more confident on the future swing. To do this, drill two holes in rounded sticks, thread the rope and again, for reliability, tie knots at the attachment points.

Do not overtighten the knots, you may need to adjust the length of the cord so that the swing hangs evenly and the "handles" are symmetrical. Tie the finished rocking chair to a tree branch, personally check the finished object for strength, and only then allow the children to have fun.

DIY climbing wall

Young fidgets will be interested in conquering the climbing wall. It is not necessary to make it high and very large, low climbing walls are also quite difficult, but safer and do not require rope belaying.

A universal option would be an A-wall, because on rainy days it can be moved under the roof and the fun continues there. Try to make such a climbing wall with your children, and if they are naughty, they say the wall is too small, give a weighty argument - climbing low (up to 4 meters) boulders and walls is called “bouldering” and is a full-fledged sport.

To make a climbing wall for kids, prepare special grips (you can buy them in special stores or find them on the Internet), beams, two sheets of plywood and carpeting for them, galvanized bolts, washers and nuts.

From the beams make two frames, connect their upper parts and fix with bolts. Cover the plywood with carpet and glue it to the base, then attach the grippers to the almost finished wall.

Homemade climbing wall is ready to conquer! Just be sure to watch your children, especially if they are still very young.

A huge water mattress will not replace a swimming pool, but it will also bring a lot of pleasant emotions to your kids. On such a bed it is soft, a little cool and absolutely safe.

To make such a bed, you will need a thick film, adhesive tape, parchment, an iron and water to fill. No extra spending will be required, although this thing looks expensive. We will immediately warn you, if you plan to keep a mattress filled with water for several days in the open air, then it is better to lay it on a sandy platform. The lawn is not suitable, because under the polyethylene the plants will not be able to breathe and will die.

To tightly solder sheets of dense polyethylene, fold them together, place parchment paper on top and bottom and press with a hot iron.

Try not to touch the film that is not protected by parchment with an iron, otherwise an unexpected hole will appear in the mattress. Remove the paper from the melted edges only after it has cooled completely, otherwise you can make extra holes again. Although we still need one small hole - we will insert a hose there to fill the bed with water. After filling, seal this place with tape so that the water can be easily drained.

Sprinkle the cool water bed with water and let the kids have fun!

This concludes the hit parade of budget entertainment for children. We hope that they turned out to be useful for you and you will implement one or two of these ideas already this summer season. And how you do it - share it with the readers of the Green Portal! We are waiting for letters and photos by e-mail
