Wooden blinds on the windows with your own hands. DIY wooden blinds

Window openings of living quarters are rarely left without equipment with devices that regulate the degree of illumination of the room and the availability of visibility from the outside. One of these is a stylish, functional and therefore in demand accessory. But products of the simplest design, attractive for their cheapness, are usually not durable. And expensive devices are not available to everyone, or they scare away the consumer with the risk of purchasing an accessory of inappropriate quality.

Samples of blinds in various colors

Since the basic design of the horizontal arrangement is not complicated, there is a way out of the situation. Let's consider how to make wooden blinds - an accessory from the most environmentally friendly natural material.

A device with horizontal lamellae can be divided into 3 groups of components:

  • upper - upper cornice with a swivel mechanism (axle, flywheel);
  • medium - a set of lamellas;
  • lower - lower cornice.

These groups are interconnected by cords for lifting and lowering the blinds and synchronous rotation of the lamellas around their longitudinal axes.

One of the advantages of natural wood is the environmental friendliness of all its types, with the affordability of most of them. In addition, modern finishing technologies make it possible to imitate products from common types of wood for accessories made of valuable species.

Therefore, do-it-yourself wooden blinds are a widespread option for arranging window openings.

Blinds with horizontal and vertical slats

However, the fixture template does not exist, as the devices may differ in the following characteristics:

  • construction - horizontal, vertical (as a variety - "Roman");
  • installation site - wall above the opening, upper slope, window block;
  • dimensions - determined by the size of the opening and the place of installation;
  • lamella material - wood, bamboo.

Blinds placement options: on the wall above the opening, on the upper slope, on the window block

Horizontal slats visually expand the room, and vertically positioned slats "raise" the ceiling. "

The method of attaching the device to the base depends on the installation location of the blinds. Mounting on a concrete structure requires drilling holes, and the product can be mounted on a metal-plastic window block using glue.

Horizontal bamboo blinds

The dimensions of the accessory also depend on the place of installation of the device - when installing the blinds on the wall above the opening, they will be larger than when mounted on the upper slope or window block.

Products with bamboo lamellas, which have all the advantages of wood with less weight, can also be attributed to wooden blinds.

Self-production of wooden blinds

The work is preceded by the design part. Regardless of whether the lamellas will be located vertically or horizontally, it is necessary to decide on which side (left or right) the control cords of the device will be located - lifting and lowering and adjusting the angle of inclination of the lamellas. It depends on the location of the window opening on the wall, furniture arrangement, individual preferences of the owner (right-handed, left-handed), etc.

Horizontal lamella device

When self-manufacturing blinds, they most often give preference to just such a design, as the simplest in execution.

First of all, they are determined with the place of installation of the device, so that the size of the manufactured components corresponds to the nuances of the location.

If the accessory will be mounted on a metal-plastic window block, you must choose the method of attachment to the binding.

Of no less importance is the choice of finishing the blinds - depending on the technology, the decoration can be performed both before the installation of the device, and after installation.

Layout and layout of components

When making an accessory for wall mounting, the vertical dimension of the blinds must be 10 cm greater than the height of the window opening, and the width of the device must be 20 cm greater than its horizontal dimension.

Important! The maximum length of the lamellas is limited to 2.0 m, since a larger size will be accompanied by deflection of the slats, problems in the functioning of the lifting and turning mechanisms, and the width is made from 4 to 12 cm - so that the details are visually commensurate with the dimensions of the window.

With the blinds open, the adjacent lamellas should overlap each other by 8-10 mm, therefore, calculating the number of laths of the required length, the size of the future fixture vertically must be divided by the width of one plate, reduced by these 8-10 mm.

Horizontal wooden blinds in open and closed position

Preparation of components

For the manufacture of lamellas, ready-made wooden strips of the required length and width are purchased or ordered from a pre-selected type of wood. Linden has proven itself well in this capacity - a material not only possible for decoration, but also lightweight.

Important! There are many options for the decorative design of the planks, but one preliminary operation must be performed without fail - after the end of the mechanical and abrasive processing of the planks and cornices, a protective layer of nitro varnish must be applied to them, regardless of the type of wood.

Samples of produced wooden slats for the production of blinds

It is difficult to make slats and cornices only by description, so it is better to take a closer look at the model of blinds in advance, which you can use as a sample.

Industrial-made accessories, simple at first glance, have components in their design, which are very difficult to manufacture in a domestic environment. For example, a system of swivel cords is elements made by weaving a row of cells with a fixed pitch of transverse sections. When weaving this system by hand, it will not be possible to accurately withstand the step, and the slats in the blinds will not be parallel to each other. Therefore, it is better to use a different execution technology - from a braid, which will be attached to the ends of the strips located at a given pitch.

Using the webbing as a swivel cord

To assemble the blinds, it is necessary to pre-drill the slats, top and bottom strips.

On the lower cornice, a longitudinal axis is drawn and, stepping back 10-15 cm from both ends, one hole is made on each side - so that a cord can be threaded through them. On the front side of the cornice, the holes are countersunk - they are slightly widened in depth by 0.5 cm, in order to subsequently drown the cord knot.

On the upper cornice, the holes are made with the same distance from the edges, but in the perpendicular direction - from the front side to the back side, and the diameter should ensure free passage of the cord, taking into account the bend at the corners.

On lamellas made of dots, applied in the same way, perpendiculars 1-3 cm long are laid on both sides of the axis (depending on the width of the slats). At the ends of the obtained segments (2-6 cm), holes are drilled with a diameter of 1 mm larger than the diameter of the cord.

Then the holes are connected with the help of needle files and slots are obtained along which the cord should move freely.

Making slots in the lamellas for the lifting-lowering cord

There is no need to tint the cut surface, but it is necessary to cover it with a colorless hydrophobic compound (nitrolac, wax and paraffin-containing mixtures).

Watching this video will give clarity to the description of the lamella manufacturing technology:

Assembly and installation

The assembly of the device starts from the bottom bar. Two pieces of cord are cut off with a length equal to the height of the window opening plus another 0.5 m. A knot is tied at one end of each segment, after which the cords are threaded with their free ends into the holes until they are locked by knots in the countersunk holes. Stopper knots will also be knitted on them with a step equal to the width of the lamellas minus 1 cm, on top of each of which the lamellas will be strung in turn.

Two pieces of tape 2-5 cm wide and a length equal to twice the height of the window opening plus another 20-25 cm are cut off. One end of each piece is attached from below to the cornice with a stapler opposite the hole with a threaded cord. Then, with a simple pencil, risks are applied to the braid with a step that is also equal to the width of the lamellas minus 1 cm. In the places where the marks are applied, the braid is attached with a furniture stapler to the ribs of the planks - also opposite the cuts made.

Conditional layout diagram of controls on horizontal blinds

After the end of fixing the braid to all the slats on the front side of the blinds, the ribbon is threaded through the holes of the upper cornice and continues to be attached to the lamellas up to the lower cornice.

After the end of fixation, a decorative lace is sewn to the braid from the back side of the blinds near the first top strip, the second end of which is brought out to the front side. By pulling this element, you can turn the planks to the desired angle.

Decorative cord for controlling the angle of rotation of the lamellas

Installation of blinds on the wall is not particularly difficult. Brackets are attached to the upper cornice with self-tapping screws, along which, on the base, using a bubble level, marking is made and holes are drilled for plastic snipe, after which the device is mounted on the project site.

Blinds with vertical slats

An accessory with this orientation of the lamellas is more difficult for independent execution, since it does not use the gravity of the slats. It is difficult to manufacture and assemble a rotary mechanism of the required design in a domestic environment, while also providing a decent level of aesthetics.

Therefore, if you want to install an original accessory in an apartment, they usually act differently - they buy inexpensive blinds and replace the slats with them, setting high-class artistic performance strips.

Variants of execution of vertical blinds

Important! When choosing an accessory in order to replace the planks, it is necessary to purchase models with a margin of safety, since installing wooden planks instead of synthetic ones will increase the load on the structure.

Conclusion

Do-it-yourself wooden blinds are a completely feasible intention if you have basic skills in performing carpentry and installation work. If this operation is performed for the first time, it is advisable to look in advance in the store for an accessory model, the design of which is most suitable for assembly in your conditions. Close-up shots of the main nodes will greatly simplify the work, serving as a proven visual aid.

The main point of the article

  1. Blinds are an effective and functional accessory, so the desire to make a device with original characteristics or, conversely, to assemble an inexpensive device with your own hands, is quite natural. In this case, you need not to make a mistake and choose a design that is real for independent execution.
  2. Of the existing designs of blinds, it is easiest to make roll-type products with your own hands, but accessories with a horizontal arrangement of lamellas are more functional, and their self-assembly is not much more difficult.
  3. Natural wood slats are a good choice for homemade blinds - even with the simplest design of the slats, the accessory looks solid. No less important than decorative components, the element is simple at first glance mechanisms for controlling the device. The accuracy of the marking during their installation is a prerequisite for the correct operation of the entire device.
  4. It is impractical to make blinds of complex designs without professional skills - with a high degree of probability, the result will be a short-lived accessory with low aesthetics.

Blinds have been successfully used for a long time in both office and residential premises. Particularly popular are wooden blinds, which can complement all kinds of curtains and curtains, or completely replace them. The history of wooden safety shutters began many centuries ago. And, according to legend, initially they served not so much protection from bright sunlight as from immodest prying eyes (in fact, the word "blinds" itself is translated as "jealousy"). And the inventor of this device was a wealthy Venetian merchant, who thus tried to hide his wife from envious people.

By the way, modern blinds perform their initial function of protection from indiscreet glances no worse than their distant ancestors.

Device

Wooden blinds are sun protection devices consisting of fairly thin wooden slats, fastened together with a chain or a strong thin rope. Structural slats are made from durable beech, cedar, linden, or cork. From above, they are covered with a special varnish that protects the material from negative external influences.

Some products can be supplemented:

  • Switch or remote control for automatic control.
  • Decorative lacing, masking the joints of the lamellas.
  • Various weights for manual control of blinds (made of wood, metal, glass and other materials).

Depending on the design features, the blinds are equipped with runners, control chains and fasteners.

Pros and cons

In addition, the pluses of wooden blinds include:

  • Good regulation the intensity of natural light in the room.
  • Resistant to UV rays. Thanks to careful grinding and processing with a special varnish, they do not fade even in bright sun.
  • Functionality. In addition to their direct "duties" they also serve as a beautiful addition to the interior, giving it sophistication and nobility. Wooden blinds make any room much more comfortable.
  • Versatility. Such products harmoniously fit into any design and are combined with various types of windows.
  • Ease of operation. Caring for such blinds does not require large financial and time costs.
  • Safety. Wood is completely hypoallergenic and does not have any harmful effect on the human body, so wood products can be safely installed in bedrooms and children's rooms.
  • Wide range of. A large selection allows you to choose blinds that are most suitable for the surrounding interior.

Among other things, psychologists and feng shui experts argue that wood curtains have a beneficial effect on the psycho-emotional state of those in the room.

The disadvantages of wooden blinds most often include their price, which significantly exceeds the cost of plastic counterparts. In addition, under high humidity, wood products can swell and deform. However, modern manufacturers in most cases have learned to deal with this last drawback using various technologies for processing and coating wood.

Kinds

The whole variety of wooden blinds is divided into three groups: horizontal, vertical designs and roll products.

Let's give their characteristics:

  • The vertical ones consist of wide wooden slats. Their distinctive feature is some heaviness, but at the same time they go well with almost any curtains and curtains. Vertical blinds made of wood for plastic windows in living rooms at home and office rooms are an excellent solution.

In addition, such structures are often used as a partition between adjacent rooms or for zoning space in large offices.

  • Horizontal. The big advantage of this type of blinds is the possibility of attaching them directly to the window. They are also perfect for dormer-type windows, since the design feature allows the sun protection strips to fit snugly against them, even at an angle. Horizontal products can be attached both to the inner side of the window and between its frames.

  • Roller blinds are made from thin strips of wood woven together or pressed bamboo. The design has an elegant and light look and fits perfectly into the interior of the living room or kitchen.

In addition to design features, wooden blinds may differ in:

  • texture (smooth or with a relief);
  • color;
  • sizes;
  • the presence of inserts (some products are supplemented with metal elements).

One of the novelties of recent years has become products with a pattern on the surface.

Dimensions (edit)

There are two standard strip widths for vertical blinds:

  • European - 127 mm;
  • American - 89 mm.

In this case, wider lamellas are recommended to be installed on large windows or used as a partition between rooms or when zoning rooms. For narrow window openings, blinds with elements according to the American standard are more suitable. In vertical structures, the width of the sun protection strips is 25 or 50 mm, with the former suitable for smaller windows, and the latter with wider and more spacious openings.

Colors

The rich color range of wood products is achieved through the use of various types of wood and thanks to modern technologies (applying all kinds of tint varnishes to the lamellas). Manufacturers currently offer blinds ranging from dark brown to wenge and chestnut shades. White wooden blinds are very popular, as well as a new trend - with a photo image. If desired, wooden lamellas can be painted independently - in any color that suits the overall design of a room or office.

Another interesting solution is blinds made of planks of various shades from different types of wood. This solution will allow you to create an original optical effect and diversify any interior.

Application in the interior

Wooden blinds are a timeless classic. They unobtrusively emphasize the style, giving the environment a special style, sophistication and even luxury.

Wood products look appropriate both in business and at home, they are suitable for classic interiors, as well as for design solutions in modern, eco and even loft and minimalism styles. Vertical wood blinds are perfect for ethnic, oriental, Moroccan design trends, as well as country style. Most often they are used in houses and apartments.

Horizontal ones, in turn, look more appropriate in office premises. However, their use is not at all limited to the business style - they will also look good in a spacious living room at home, giving it solidity and comfort, as well as in a "classic" bedroom and even in the kitchen. When decorating a home interior, they are often combined with light curtains or curtains.

Often, wood blinds are used in the form of partitions between rooms, for zoning space, or they replace cabinet doors. They go well with almost any furniture and flooring.

Beautiful design solutions

The most harmonious solution is the use of wooden blinds in a room with wood furniture, decorated in a classic style. Such products with a floral print will look original and beautiful in a country-style living room.

They will fit perfectly into eco-style. At the same time, if the preference is given to light colors in the house, then the designers recommend white wood products. The original design solutions are constructions with a photo print depicting nature. For the Japanese style, beige or brown vertical floor-length blinds are ideal. And for minimalism - light, almost airy wickerwork that lets in as much sunlight as possible.

Installation

Installing blinds with wooden slats is a fairly simple matter, which you can easily cope with on your own. They can be attached:

  • to the ceiling;
  • to the wall;
  • inside the window opening;
  • for each window section.

When installing inside the opening, the dimensions of the product should be selected 3-4 cm narrower than the opening itself. At the same time, in any case, it is worth considering the possibility of full opening of the window with the blinds fully raised.

The most durable and reliable installation option is considered to be fastened to a window profile. For this, holes must be drilled in the profile.

Installation of horizontal blinds consists of the following steps:

  • making markings for fastening elements;
  • mounting brackets and cornice using self-tapping screws;
  • placement of runners, to which the lamellae are then attached alternately;
  • attaching weights to the control handle;
  • checking the operation of the entire structure.

Installation of a vertical structure is carried out in almost the same way, only they are not attached to the runners, but directly to the cornice.

If you don't want to drill holes in the frame or wall, then you can use special brackets with latches or double-sided tape. The former are used only on opening sashes of windows, but with the help of adhesive tape, the blinds are installed on non-opening parts of the window. When determining the installation method, it is important to take into account the size and weight of the light protection structure - large blinds should only be fastened with self-tapping screws or other reliable fasteners.

How to choose?

To fully appreciate all the advantages of wooden blinds, they must be chosen correctly. In this case, first of all, the following are taken into account:

  • design features;
  • mounting options;
  • opening methods (manually or remotely).

In addition, it is important to define:

  • in which direction the blinds will open (if we are talking about the vertical arrangement of the lamellas);
  • how wide the slats should be (the smaller the room, the more you should choose the slats);
  • dimensions (blinds will not have to spread across the floor or windowsill).

When buying, special attention should be paid to the quality of the product - it should not creak, the mechanism should not jam - the entire opening-closing process should be smooth and soundless.

How to wash?

Caring for wooden products does not require much time, but in order for the blinds to perform their function as long as possible, you should not wipe the slats with wet rags or napkins. It is enough to regularly walk on them with a vacuum cleaner or dry cloth. Experts advise using fabric softener or liquid soap as detergents for heavily soiled planks. They are either applied to the slats and gently washed with soft rags or brushes; either rubbed in hands, after putting on cotton gloves, and carried out from top to bottom along each bar.

After cleaning, an antistatic agent can be applied to the wooden elements to prevent dust from settling.

I have always been amazed at the beautiful views of the wood products and structures. Natural materials used in wall or floor cladding create a warm and welcoming design. Quite recently, I installed wooden windows in my house and realized that now the old metal blinds are completely out of place. A friend of mine advised me to make my own wooden blinds and it seemed like a great idea to me. I always carry out repairs at home on my own - I installed the windows myself, I made the slopes and window sills myself, and therefore I also decided to make wooden blinds with my own hands.

We consider the types and features

At the moment, there are a huge number of types of blinds, they can be made of plastic or aluminum, as well as fabric. But undoubtedly the most sophisticated and original are wooden blinds. They can be divided into the following groups:

  • Vertical - This position allows you to control the sunlight. Blinds are somewhat similar to ordinary curtains, but they are more functional. In addition, wooden slats visually lengthen the height of the room. Using vertical elements, you can close not only the window in the room, but the balcony doors, which are an additional source of light
  • Horizontal - Suitable for narrow rooms, limiting sunlight thanks to the ladder design. Most often used for office space
  • Roman lamellas are small in width, and the whole structure is rolled up

Fixing blinds is possible both to the ceiling space and to the opening above the window. Some craftsmen use double-sided tape instead of fasteners, but I recommend using more reliable materials.

Important! Wooden blinds are environmentally friendly and are not capable of causing harm to health. The same cannot be said for plastic structures.

Self-production

Wooden blinds on the balcony

If you have certain skills or you decide to try to make blinds yourself, then let's consider all the actions that allow you to carry out the work efficiently. Before making wooden blinds, you should stock up on material. In general, any type of wood is suitable for blinds, but it would be best:

  1. Bamboo
  2. Corkwood

Think in advance how you place the blinds - this also determines the size of the future slats. For small rooms, it is better to mount the structure in a window opening, but wooden blinds that go beyond the window will require additional fasteners.

Follow this sequence:

  • Take measurements of the window opening, which will be decorated with wooden blinds
  • In order to find out the number of lamellas required, divide the window height by 11
  • Find out how long the panels will be. If you decide to install wooden blinds in the opening, then a couple of centimeters should be subtracted from its total width.

To make slats, use a sawmill, in some cases it is possible to order ready-made slats. If a sawmill is used, then after cutting out the parts, they require grinding. Subsequently, they are fired with a blowtorch and treated with stain. For decorative and protective purposes, the panels should be opened with varnish - this will extend the life of the structure and give it a more impressive look.

When the planks are ready and completely dry, we can move on to drilling the holes. Select the middle of all the lamellas and make a hole there - the inserted hook will allow it to be fixed to the base. Next, take the thread that will hold the structure and measure out two pieces that will be 20 cm longer than our new blinds. The third thread, which will be in the middle, will allow you to control the lighting - its length should be two window heights. Further actions are as follows:

  1. The first bar is located between the ends of the thread and is fixed with a clamp or a large knot
  2. The next bar is installed after a short distance - for all lamellas it will be one
  3. When the last louver slat is installed, the ends of the thread are tied and secured at the top. The central one is located so as to keep the lamellas in the open position. When loosened, the wooden blinds will close

The advantages of natural material

Wooden blinds in the interior of the apartment

Do-it-yourself wooden blinds will delight you for a very long time. In addition to the spectacular appearance, the blinds made of wood will create a comfortable and calm atmosphere. Agree, it is much more pleasant to be in a room with wooden curtains than metal elements. Pros of using natural material for self-production of curtains:

  • The material is environmentally friendly and does not harm the health of others
  • Blinds can be safely called universal. They are able to fit into various interior solutions if they are made with natural motives.
  • Durable - this design can last much longer than its other counterparts
  • It is very easy to take care of the material - when dust accumulates, it is enough to vacuum the lamellas or wipe with a soft cloth

The only drawback of using wood blinds is the instability of the material to the influence of moisture. Therefore, it is better to use such designs in rooms with an optimal level of humidity, and if you need curtains for the bathroom, then plastic or aluminum blinds are better.

Wooden blinds for windows

Recently, the use of such "curtains" is much more common than all the bored curtains. This is due to the constant washing of curtains and the accumulation of dust on them. Modern blinds are very easy to clean from dirt and there is no need to even dismantle the panels. By the way, even special brushes appeared in stores, repeating the contour of the panels, they can speed up the cleaning process. By the way, wooden panels are more resistant to mechanical damage. Aluminum elements can bend under pressure and do not return to their former position.

Hide

Blinds are a simple device that reliably protects the room from the penetration of bright rays of light. If you decide to decorate the interior of the windows using a similar product, then the best material to make blinds will be wood.

And it is not necessary to buy ready-made wooden blinds, because you can make them yourself.

How to make wood blinds - you will learn from our article.

Stage I - Manufacturing of wooden blinds: preparatory work

Wooden blinds are excellent sun protection

Any type of wood is suitable for self-production of wooden blinds. But it is better if it is bamboo or linden.

Do-it-yourself wood blinds are easy to make. For this:

Measure the proportions of the window on which you are going to hang the future blinds. The number of plates required for a wooden structure depends on the height of the window opening.

Important! Calculate taking into account that the width of the plate should be about 12 cm. The width of the overlap of one plate on the next must be at least 1 cm.

1) Determine the height of the window and divide it by 11 cm. The required number of lamellas (plates) for wooden blinds is obtained.

Blinds installation diagram

2) Proceed with determining the length of the lamellas. It depends on how the blinds are suspended. If they are placed directly in the window opening, then the length of the lamellas should be 4-5 cm less than the width of the window.

In addition, please note that you will have to order some of the parts that are necessary for the assembly of wooden blinds ready-made. Since the manufacture of wooden blinds at home from "A" to "Z" is simply impossible. So the necessary components for the manufacture and installation of wooden blinds should be purchased first of all, having measured the parameters of the window in advance.

In addition to the plates (lamellas) for installing wooden blinds with your own hands, you will need tools such as:

  • Drill,
  • Scissors,
  • Hooks,
  • Aluminum tape,
  • Clamps,

Stage II - DIY wooden blinds: installing nozzles on the ends of the lamellas

To attach attachments (in the form of small planks) to the ends of the records, do the following:

1) Drill a hole exactly in the middle in each top bit and insert the hook into it. With the help of the latter, wood blinds will be attached to the upper base. 2) Drill a hole at the top and bottom of these plates with a diameter of 2 mm. Important! This hole should be exactly in the center at a distance of 12 mm from the nozzle. 3) Pass through the holes obtained with aluminum tape, which will open and close your blinds. 4) Place the cord in each hole on the glue and secure it with wood chips.

That's it, the work on self-production of wooden blinds can be considered complete. Now let's move on to installing them directly.

Stage III - How to hang wooden blinds: installation of the finished product

1) Attach the prepared lamellas to the guide using the hooks. This is necessary in order to move the planks sideways. 2) Screw the two large hooks to the ceiling and pass the cord through them that you used to connect the planks. Important! Pull this cord down in a loop, making sure to twist the ends. The loop is necessary so that the position of the plates can be changed.

Note that there are two ways to install wooden blinds: above the window or in the window opening itself. The method of installing the blinds must be chosen in advance, before making wooden blinds, since the size of the blinds will depend on the location chosen.

The first method is more time consuming. Since it will be necessary to drill holes, as well as a rather complicated installation of fasteners due to the heterogeneity of the walls. In addition, the disadvantage of this method of installing blinds is a noticeable reduction in the volume of the room.

The second method will significantly save you space. However, drilling is necessary in both cases, but it is much easier to install a wooden frame.

Making wooden blinds with your own hands is a dreary business. If you make the slightest mistake, you can ruin the whole creation. Our advice is to entrust the entire process to professionals. But if you are determined to do everything yourself, good luck in this rather difficult task!

When arranging an interior and creating a design, there are no boundaries for imagination. I would like the house to be cozy, comfortable and unusual! The first thing that falls on the eye when entering a room is the window! Therefore, protection from bright daylight should be not only comfortable, but also beautiful.

The aesthetic appearance of the window is a guarantee of comfort in the room. Of course, curtains are a familiar piece of furniture! They are usually expensive, wrinkle, and gather dust quickly.

There is a great alternative to curtains - blinds! They can be bought in any store or market, but it is better to make them yourself, there is nothing difficult in making them!

There are many materials used for the manufacture of blinds: paper, fabric, plastic. In a wooden version, such curtains look best. But the main advantage of wooden blinds is naturalness and ease of maintenance.

More suitable wood species for sun protection are cedar, beech, linden or bamboo. Mahogany or cork looks unusual.

Blinds can be both horizontal and vertical, they can be adjacent to fabric curtains and complement each other. Wood will suit any style, so such blinds are universal, but they are more often installed in private houses or in summer cottages. Although in the apartment such an ecological clean element of the interior will not be superfluous.

In order to make blinds you will need:

1. Good mood

2. Wooden slats

3. Self-tapping screws and drill

4. Varnish and stain intended for wood

5. Cord, rope, thread

First you need to decide where the blinds will be attached - above the window or in the opening itself. The first option is suitable for spacious rooms, as it visually steals the space of the room.

  • We make accurate measurements of the window. If the plates are made independently, they must first be sanded, varnished and stained.
  • In the finished, dried planks, we make three holes with a drill, we thread the cord into the side ones, with a margin of 40 cm
  • Insert the cord into the central hole (double window length)
  • We fix the cord securely on the last bar
  • We begin to fix the rest. Every 4 cm we tie a knot (larger than the hole in the plank) and one by one we put the wooden elements on the cord.
  • We throw the upper end of the cord over the main upper attachment and stretch it to the bottom, attach a retainer or a bead - this is a regulator for raising the entire blind
  • The entire canvas is attached to the base by the side cords
  • The blinds are ready! All that remains is to enjoy and dust off regularly.

Such blinds will be relevant on any window, even on a modern plastic one. They reliably protect from the sun and let fresh air into the room without obstacles. There is no need to drill a double-glazed window! There is a clever way to attach them to a snow-white window neatly and without unnecessary holes. You will need:

  • bracket
  • Double-sided tape

The bracket clings securely to the marked places on the top of the opening sash. A strong cable is stretched between them, which will not sag; the entire structure is attached to it. The window will open quietly, and the window sill will remain free.

Wooden blinds are lightweight and can be glued onto double-sided tape. They will hold tightly, just before attaching the tape, degrease the surface of the profile with acetone.

If you decide to hang the blinds in the winter, then before installing you need to warm up the place under the tape with a hairdryer, it will not stick to cold plastic. Following these simple rules, the blinds will hold on tightly and delight you with their presence on the window for a long time!

Create coziness and beauty in the house with your own hands, you only need desire and a little patience!
