An artist is a rather ambiguous term, which is usually understood as a representative of any spectacular art: theater, music, ballet, cinema, stage or circus. In the feminine form, the word "artist" is used.

The meaning of the word "artist"

An artist is (fr. artiste, medieval - lat. artista - a craftsman, artist, master from lat. ars - art) a person who conducts his activities in the field of art. An artist is called such a person who shows his talented skill in front of the audience. The meaning of the word is very voluminous in its essence. It combines several directions in its concept.

So, an artist can be an opera singer, a circus worker, a dramatic actor, a stage performer or a performer of roles in films. Artists are also divided into musical, choreographic, stage, as well as dancers. A figurative, ironic interpretation of this word is also in demand.

An artist is a person who has a high skill in some creative field. From the word "artist" the adjective "artistic" is formed, which characterizes a person as a person with creative skills or gifted in the artistic field.

Also, an artist can be called an artist in the narrow sense: a painter, sculptor, architect, engraver. The word "artist" was not known in ancient times. The Greeks and Romans under this word understood two expressions. So, an artist could be both an artist-artist and a craftsman.

In the modern world, it is difficult to draw a specific line that could determine where artistic activity ends and handicraft work begins. Therefore, the word "artist" is a concept that sometimes refers to the masters of one industry or another, bringing into their work a little bit of taste and understanding of the elegant.

The origin of this concept

The ancestors of the artists, oddly enough, were shamans and sorcerers. Just the representatives of this kind of activity turned out to be the first people who sang songs and demonstrated various dance movements, reincarnating as the patrons of the clan - totem animals. However, it is worth noting that shamans and sorcerers did not make any special efforts to arouse sympathy among their contemporaries, since their main goal was to connect with the other world.

It turns out that, according to its inner content, the word "artist" can be applied to anyone who seeks in any way to impress the beautiful, elegant or harmonious. At the same time, it does not matter whether the idea of beauty being embodied is a personal creation and a manifestation of the talent of a particular person, or whether it is an example of skillful imitation.

Artist or actor

Both terms come from French. They are, of course, interconnected. However, to consider that they are synonyms is an erroneous assumption.

So, an actor is a person who has a profession that can be applied on a theater stage, in a film frame or an advertising video. Actors are performers of diverse roles.

Comparison of consonant words

The main distinguishing feature of the actor is his narrow specialization. A person is exclusively engaged in the performance of roles. He can play both a comedic role and a tragic one. The actor must have the ability to masterfully impersonate and perfectly fit into the image of a particular hero. Outwardly, such a transformation occurs with the help of a successful make-up and selection of costumes. Actors must have the right characteristics to be successful.

However, it is worth noting that a person who has reached heights in her creative activity is called an artist. This word is always included in the honorary state title.

An actor is a person who plays a role. In the cinema, theater, office, at home and away, where a person portrays an image invented by him, he is engaged in acting. The artist is a virtuoso of reincarnation. For any creative person to be an artist is to reach the pinnacle of mastery.

Theater is life events that you can experience every time until you realize the true essence of what is happening. Both on stage and in real life!

The theater excites, pleases, shocks, inspires and helps to experience or rethink life in a new way. It helps to look at the same problem from a different angle of view, through the eyes of actors, the director and society as a whole. I would even say that the theater, like a good psychotherapist, heals and shows the course of events in a given situation. It is as a psychotherapist, and not fashionable in modern society, such a specialist as a psychologist. What is the difference? The psychologist only listens attentively, asks leading questions and tries to help you make the most appropriate decision for you in a given situation. The theater, on the contrary, like a good psychotherapist, explains and shows the problem in an accessible way, as well as the possible development of events based on a specific situation. Moreover, this is shown in such an unobtrusive form, and in such a general atmosphere of involvement, that a person on a subconscious level solves some life problems for himself, draws analogies with his life, better understands the behavior of people with whom he contacts daily in life. Sometimes it delivers pleasure, and occasionally shock. It happens that in just one performance, a person experiences a whole gamut of emotions from blind indignation and impotent rage, to a grateful perception of real life and all-encompassing love.

Each performance is like a little life, lived not only by the actors, but also by the audience, who are silent accomplices of the actions taking place on the stage. Just as you cannot enter the same river twice, so the performance will be new and unique in its performance each time. And those emotions, excitements and experiences will beckon and attract like a magnet in order to plunge into that magical atmosphere of mystery and being at the same time again and again, in order to know oneself through the great power of art.

Many years ago I watched a youth theater performance based on Maurice Maeterlinck's play "The Blind". It was a massive cultural trip to the theater, organized by the management of the company for their employees. Everyone expected a pleasant joint pastime, after which it was planned to continue communication in some cafe, with all the pleasant additions. After the performance, everyone left in mute silence. I was not just shocked, I didn’t want to talk about anything and with anyone for a week - I and those who were with me at the performance were silent for a long time. That is, the conversation went on all the time, but it was an internal dialogue with myself. After we shared our impressions with one of the directors I knew, he answered with the words of one of the greats (I don’t remember who now): “A good theater is amazing, a bad theater is a pleasure. Congratulations, you are in a good theater.”

Today I am glad that I am directly involved in the world of the theater. The theatrical psychological school "Image" teaches acting skills to everyone who wants to know the magical power of this art. There are no restrictions on age or profession, here people are not selected according to some special criteria. After all, every person has been an actor since childhood, only someone improves their skills over the years, and someone firmly tries to drown them out, putting on a comfortable mask of pleasant coexistence with everyone. Over the years, such a person gets used to the chosen image, as to his second "I". And only occasionally, in complete solitude, being with himself, does he allow his true nature to come out. Sometimes this is a rather painful process, so a person strives as soon as possible, so that no one notices, to put on his usual image again. But is such a person happy, can he sincerely rejoice and be upset, in order to feel the fullness of life? Of course he can, if he wants to...

The theater-school "Image" invites everyone to acting classes for life and for the stage. This slogan, which has become a well-known brand over the 18 years of our school's existence, is more relevant today than ever. Today, almost every theater studio that has not proven itself over the years of successful work already declares in full voice that it is their masters who teach the acting skills necessary for a person in life. But what does such a concept include, what is the training system based on, and in the end, what is the result of their work embodied in? Ask them all these questions and come join us for a free introductory lesson. Get to know our learning system and you will feel the difference!

What it is - it's simple. There are watches of real Swiss quality, and there is a fake Korean or Chinese assembly. Both of them look the same, only the quality is different, and this is an important fact, you must agree! Theater School "Image" is the largest theater school in Europe. Has more than 20 branches. All branches work according to the author's patented training program of the founder of the school, S. Bazarov (actor, director, psychologist). Over 18 years of successful work of the school, more than 15,000 graduates. Upon completion of training, a certificate of a single sample is issued, which has managed to establish itself in theatrical circles throughout the entire post-Soviet space and abroad. Our graduates successfully use the acquired knowledge on stage and in life. Some continue their studies at higher theatrical institutions, some successfully build their careers and become directors of their own lives with the help of the acquired knowledge, while others remain with us. The best graduates have the opportunity to join the troupe of the theater-studio "Obraz", constantly performing with repertory performances on the small stage of the Palace of Ukraine and other stage venues in Kiev. But those for whom the theater-school "Obraz" has become a second home during their studies, do not stand aside. Of course, they continue their careers according to their chosen professional activities, but in their free time they continue to improve their acting skills according to the club system. Under the guidance of selected masters, they continue to put on new performances, work on new images that allow you to experience new sensations and enjoy the world of theater and communication with like-minded people. Theater is a whole world that absorbs you whole and never lets go!

Actor. Artist

The talented actress Liya Akhedzhakova (who played in Eldar Ryazanov's films "Garage", "Office Romance") said in an interview with a journalist: "Not every actor is an artist."

Well said. Akhedzhakova emphasizes that the concepts and words of an actor and artist have their own peculiarities. Commendable. Linguists do not always point out the difference.

What is the difference between actor and artist? They are often mistakenly used as identical synonyms.

The words actor and actress came from the French language (acteur, actrice - from the Latin actor "performer, actor." The accent actor is obsolete).

Actor used in direct and figurative meaning:

a) direct meaning: "performer of roles in theatrical performances" (tragic, dramatic, comic, variety actors, film actors).

Now, if we could find a dramatic, young, good actress (A. Ostrovsky).

b) figurative meaning: "a pretender, a person who shows himself not to be what he really is."

What a serious look and dissatisfied look. Yes, I did not know that you are such an actor (Lermontov, "Masquerade").

The nest of single-root words includes: actor, actress, actor, actor, actor, actor, acting.

The word acting, like an actor, has a direct and figurative meaning: direct - "the profession of an actor", theatrical art"; figuratively - "artificiality, pretense, panache".

Word artist (from French - artiste), w. R. artist. Direct values:

1. "a person who has chosen as his profession activities in the field of stage or variety art." In contrast, the actor - artist, actress - artist emphasizes the difference between profession and talent.

Mrs. Karatygina is indeed a gifted actress, in comparison with other actresses of the Alexandrinsky Theater (V. Belinsky).

2. "a person engaged in creativity in the field of any art."

I, a grandmother, want to be an artist. - As an artist? - An artist ... After university I will go to the academy (Goncharov, "Cliff").

The word artist is often used in a figurative sense, "a person who performs something with great skill and love."

Your son is an artist in his field.

The nest of cognate words includes: artistic, artistic, artistry, etc.

In the dictionaries of synonyms, the words actor, artist and actor are in the same nest. At the same time, it should be taken into account that the actor and artist have semantic shades, and the actor is outdated. In the 19th and early 20th centuries, a synonym for actors was used, as a rule, with a touch of irony.

In Ukrainian, the word actor "actor" and its derivatives, the actress is widely used. As in Russian, actor and acting have direct and figurative meanings.
