27.11.2017

The crazy pace of life in the modern city pushes us to look for new ways to relax. The opportunity to rest, get peace and relaxation in your own home is expensive. But there is no need to "reinvent the wheel", or rather, it is enough to transform the ways of relaxation and even changing one's position relative to the earth, which have long been known to mankind. By "crossing" the swing and the hammock into one whole, using modern strong and durable materials, the designers have received an affordable and aesthetic piece of furniture - a hanging chair. Different in shape, size and material of execution, these means for rest and relaxation can become a harmonious addition to any interior. We bring to your attention 100 design projects for using a hanging chair in the interior and exterior of a modern home.

Hanging chair: design options and materials used

The second name of the hanging chair is “hanging swing chair” for a reason. The ability to swing in different directions and spin around its axis will allow an adult to remember childhood, sitting comfortably in a piece of furniture "ground-to-air". The name speaks for itself - the hanging chair is a cocoon, mini hammock or ball made of rattan, vine or modern materials such as plastic, acrylic or polyurethane suspended from a ceiling or beam with a chain, rope or other type of attachment.

First of all, all hanging chairs are classified according to the material of execution. A swing chair, being a combination of a hammock and a rocking chair, can be made of:

  • vines;
  • rattan (natural or artificial);
  • plastic;
  • acrylic;
  • wood;
  • metal rods;
  • fabrics;
  • be a combined product made of various materials.

In addition to the method and material of execution, hanging chairs differ in the maximum weight that the structure can support. For each specific model, you need to know the upper weight limit - some chairs are designed for a weight of no more than 100 kg, others are capable of withstanding a load of 150 kg. It all depends on the material, size and shape of the swing chair.

But the main difference between hanging chairs is related to their design. Globally, all existing seat models are derived from 2 of the most famous models. The first - the Egg chair (egg) was invented in 1957 by a designer from Denmark. Many modern models of hanging swings are variations on the theme of "eggs" in one or another modification. Convenient positioning in an ergonomic chair has become a symbol of relaxation and creating the most comfortable seating area in any room.

The second equally well-known design of the suspended chair Bubble (soap bubble) was invented in Finland a little later, in 1968. If the Egg swing chair is constantly undergoing changes, modified, then the "bubble chair" is released in its original appearance, the changes concern only increasing the strength of the material and some decoration of the product - there is a model with backlighting, a pattern can be applied to the transparent surface of the "bubble", engraving or photo printing.

Any model of a hanging chair is equipped with soft inserts, pillows or cushions for more comfortable placement. Models are sold with ready-made soft liners, or you can purchase an armchair and create the inner filling yourself (for example, make a soft seat in the color of decorative cushions or any other textiles in the interior).

The rattan and vine models have a fairly rigid body, perfectly keep their shape and meet the requirements of ergonomics. Most often, such models look like a cocoon, as if enveloping a person sitting in it. This model creates a special mood for everyone who is comfortable inside. Privacy, security and relaxation are feelings that are so necessary in today's dynamic world.

Textile models are more like hammocks, only made in more compact variations. A hanging chair that looks like a hammock will become an organic part of the interior, decorated in one of the varieties of country style - from Mediterranean to Provence.

A bubble chair with a rigid frame or plastic or acrylic will perfectly fit into any of the directions of modern style. Hi-tech, loft, contemporary and industrial styles can also benefit from the presence of a transparent plastic swing chair.

Interior and exterior with hanging chair

So, in which rooms can a hanging chair be used as part of the interior? Yes, in almost any. If earlier you could see a swing chair only in children's rooms and bedrooms, nowadays this piece of furniture can also be found in living rooms, offices, dining rooms and even spacious kitchens. It all depends on which room is more convenient for you to arrange a corner for rest and relaxation (or a place for reading, rocking a child) and the parameters of the room itself, because for comfortable rocking the chair needs free space.

If we talk about the variations of integrating a hanging chair into the interior of any room, then there are only two popular methods. It is fashionable to call the first option "a cozy corner" - a special place in the room is allocated for the armchair, where you can relax, read, relax. This harmonious integration method can be used both in bedrooms, study rooms and children's rooms (especially in those where two or more children live).

The second variation of "fitting" a swing chair into the interior of a modern home is associated with the creation of an accent element, a center for coordination and attraction of all eyes. It is easy to guess that a hanging chair becomes such an element of the interior. At the same time, it is not necessary for him to be located strictly in the center of the room, it is enough to accentuate against a neutral background of interior decoration and have free space around.

Hanging chair in the living room

An armchair-cocoon or "bubble" often becomes an addition to the relaxation area of \u200b\u200ba modern living room. Whether the segment of relaxation is formed by a sofa and armchairs, whether it is complemented by a fireplace or a TV, but a hanging chair will never be superfluous. On the one hand, you are conveniently located in an individual place for rest and relaxation, on the other hand, you can freely communicate with everyone in the room.

Wicker chairs made of wicker or rattan look the most organic in a living room decorated in country, beach, Mediterranean style. The eclectic interior of the living room can accommodate any version of the hanging swing chair.

In most cases, the hanging chair is mounted directly to the ceiling. In some rooms it is convenient to mount the swing chair to the ceiling beams. In spacious studio rooms with incredibly high ceilings, where the upper tier of rooms is built, a cocoon chair or hammock can be attached to the base of the second level.

Swing chair in the bedroom

The ideal way to create a reading nook in your bedroom is by hanging a comfy chair, which will create a secluded corner even in a small space. For such purposes, compact models that do not take up much space are perfect.

A bubble swing chair with a transparent frame can organically fit into many styles of bedroom decoration. Any direction of modern style will only be enriched by the presence of such an original, but at the same time practical piece of furniture like the Bubble armchair.

The snow-white cobweb chair looks incredibly airy, weightless. Such a piece of furniture will organically fit into the bedroom, decorated in the style of Powans, shabby chic, vintage. The romantic style is literally created for such functional and decorative elements at the same time.

Chairs with suspension system for children's rooms

It's hard to find a child who doesn't like a swing. Nowadays, the opportunity to swing in a comfortable position is available not only on the street, on the playground, but also in the child's room. Comfortable and ergonomic models of hanging chairs will become not only a place for the kid's entertainment (swinging in a “cocoon” or “bubble” is incredibly fun), but also an opportunity for some privacy in the nursery, where two or more children live.

In a children's room, it is important to take into account all the nuances of using hanging chairs. If in the parent's bedroom such a model would be subject to slight swaying, then in the children's room this piece of furniture will undergo real tests - there will be repulsions from the walls, twisting, swaying in all possible directions.

Hanging chairs in landscape design

Not only the interior of a modern home can be equipped with a comfortable piece of furniture for relaxation and rest. To improve the effect of peaceful rocking in a comfortable swing chair, you can only be in the fresh air. Hanging a hammock chair on the terrace, under a canopy or just under a tree is not only an effective way to organize outdoor recreation, but also decorate the landscape design of a private courtyard or summer cottage.

For the exterior of a private home, you need to choose models of hanging chairs that are ready to withstand all the vicissitudes of nature in your region. Between natural and artificial rattan, for example, it is better to give preference to the latter. Artificial material better tolerates high humidity, direct sunlight and temperature changes (and it is cheaper).

But whatever the choice of material for the execution of a hanging chair used in the open air, experts recommend removing the structure in the room for the winter. The ideal place would be a dry shed or garage that is not heated, but.

And in conclusion

After you decide on the model of the hanging chair, its dimensions and material of execution, be sure to test the selected model not only for strength, but also the level of personal comfort. Sit in a swing chair right in the store, take various poses, find out how comfortable you are personally in the "arms" of a particular model. After all, a hanging chair requires attachment to the ceiling or floor beams, if you don't like the model after a month or two of use, then you will have to make cosmetic repairs to the ceiling to hide the traces of hanging the hammock chair. That is why experts do not recommend buying a hanging chair online, but make sure that it suits you personally.

Hanging chairs are an alternative to a rocking chair on the runners of the house and a hammock in nature. Comfort and light swaying will help you relax and unwind after a hard day. A variety of models and materials for manufacturing allows you to harmoniously integrate such an armchair into any interior. And you don't have to spend money on a purchase. Some models are easy to make with your own hands.

Types of hanging chairs

A wide variety of models and designs are produced. They can be made of wood, metal, rattan, vine, transparent plastic. There are models that you can make yourself without any problems.

  1. Swing chair. The attachment is carried out at two points. Due to this, the structure swings in one plane. There are soft models (hammock chair) or on a rigid frame:
    • the basis of the first option is a soft fabric or wicker fabric, which is easy to sew, weave using macrame technique or crochet - the ends of the cloth are attached to the transverse bar with 4 slings, and it is already suspended from the ceiling or leg-post;
    • the second version has a rigid frame made of acrylic, plastic, wood, rattan or metal in the form of a hoop, covered with a soft base.
  2. Nest chair. The base of the construction consists of 2 durable hoops. The model has a flat bottom and low sides, which are braided with a cord, rope or tied with strong threads.
  3. The cocoon chair (egg) differs from its counterparts in its greater closeness, often up to 70%. The back and sides are high and connected above the head. The rigid frame is braided with a suitable material or sheathed with fabric. The varieties of this model - a basket chair and a drop chair - are ideal for a child's room.

Finishing techniques and materials

These chairs usually have a rigid frame and seat made of various materials.

  1. The cloth. An affordable and easy-to-use material, the density and strength of which is selected based on the expected load. A raincoat, tarpaulin will do. The chair for children from old jeans with pockets and rivets looks original.
  2. Knitted fabric. Craftsmen who know the knitting or crocheting technique can use their skills to create an original chair from plain or multi-colored threads.
  3. Macrame. Weaving from a durable cord will not only last a long time, but also add a special flavor to any interior.
  4. Vine, rattan. Chairs made from sustainable materials will decorate any interior, but special skills are required to work with them. In addition, rattan does not grow in our country.

It is interesting! An unusual and very durable material for the armchair braiding is a thread from plastic bottles. Such a chair will not get wet, will not deform, it can be hung on the street.

Frame material

The base of the chair can be made from different materials.

  1. Gymnastic hoop. Suitable only for a child seat, for an adult its strength is not enough, since the cross-sectional diameter is 16 mm, and for the frame of the chair you need 2 times more.
  2. Metal pipe. The product from it will turn out to be durable, but heavy - at least 7 kg. For its manufacture, you will need pipe bending equipment.
  3. Wood. The design will be durable, lightweight, environmentally friendly. Since the material absorbs moisture and dries up in the sun, wood for outdoor chairs must be treated with impregnations. This will protect the material from decay.
  4. Reinforced-plastic pipes. Strong, lightweight and non-corrosive material. When using coiled pipes, there is no need to bend them. The ends of the segment are connected with a wooden or plastic insert and fixed with self-tapping screws.

You should not use old material in the manufacture of an armchair: such furniture will not last long.

Do-it-yourself hanging chair

A hand-made hanging chair will look good in the country or on the veranda of a private house. The simplest to manufacture is a hammock chair. It can be done in several ways from different materials, but the most convenient and uncomplicated of them are macrame or textiles.

Hammock without frame

For work you will need:

  • dense fabric - 1.5x1.5 m;
  • durable cord;
  • wooden bar for fastening;
  • sewing accessories.

After preparing everything you need, proceed to the assembly process.

Swing on a rigid frame

To make it you will need:

  • a hoop with a diameter of 90–95 cm;
  • durable fabric 3 m long and 1.5 m wide;
  • lightning - 90–95 cm;
  • strong cord or rope - 10 m;
  • metal rings for fastening the structure to the ceiling;
  • non-woven fabric;
  • scissors;
  • tape measure;
  • sewing accessories.

When all the materials are prepared, proceed to the execution of the chair.

  1. Fold the fabric in half and spread it on a flat surface.
  2. Place the hoop in the center, at a distance of 20–25 cm from it, draw a circle around it and connect the marks with a line. Cut out 2 circles.
  3. On one of the blanks, make a cut through the center with a length equal to the diameter of the hoop, sew a zipper in this place.
  4. Join both workpieces with a seam around the circumference.
  5. Make cutouts on the finished cover for attaching the ropes to a 10 cm long hoop. To do this, fold the cover in half and measure from the fold line to one side 45 ° C, to the other - 30 ° C, mark.
  6. Duplicate the marks on the second part of the circle. The distance between the cutouts in the front of the seat should be greater than in the back.
  7. Tape the slots.
  8. Wrap the hoop with a strip of padding polyester, connect with a seam to secure.
  9. Insert the hoop into the cover, close the zipper.
  10. Cut the cord into 4 pieces, 2.2 and 2.8 m long. Fold each piece in half and fasten it to the hoop. To do this, pass a loop through the hole in the cover, and push the ends of the cord through it and tighten them. Long cords should be in the front of the chair and short cords in the back.
  11. Tie a short and long cord on the right side to one ring, on the left to the other. Make strong knots.
  12. Hang the rings from a ceiling, beam, or thick tree branch outside.
  13. Place pillows inside or sew a round mattress. This will make the chair even more comfortable.

How to make a wicker nest chair: step by step photos

By making the seat flat and providing the structure with sides, you can get a nest chair. For such a rocking chair you will need:

  • two hoops made of a metal-plastic pipe with a cross section of 35 mm: for a seat with a diameter of 70 cm, for a backrest - 110 cm;
  • polyamide cord 4 mm thick - 900 m;
  • sling or strong rope - 12 m;
  • thicker cord for connecting the seat and backrest.

To make this chair, you need to be able to weave.

  1. First, braid both hoops:
    • wrap the pipe with a cord (it is worth taking a cord with a polypropylene core, as it will help to make a stronger knit);
    • pull the thread well (each next turn should fit evenly and tightly to the previous one);
    • fasten the thread every 20 turns, pulling it as much as possible and twisting it;
    • for greater strength, coat the weaving with glue.
  2. At regular intervals, fasten with a double loop on the braid of the hoop the pieces of the cord folded in half. They should be half the length of the hoop.
  3. Weave the bottom of the chair with flat knots in a checkerboard pattern, securing the remaining ends to a free semicircle. The tension on the cords when weaving should be quite strong. It's not scary if the hoop is slightly deformed, in the future the shape will be restored.
  4. Connect the finished seat and backrest hoop by tying them to each other with a cord at the front of the structure.
  5. At the back, connect the seat and the backrest hoop with two wooden spacer bars, making cuts in their ends for a strong attachment. The length of the spacers is adjusted according to the desired backrest height.
  6. Attach the cords to the upper arch of the back and weave from top to bottom. Fasten the rest of the cords to the seat and form brushes out of them.
  7. Connect the upper arch of the backrest and the seat with a thick cord parallel to the struts, and then remove them.
  8. Tie the slings to the finished structure. They also need to be made using the macrame technique from cords.
  9. Hang the chair.

  1. For work, you can use metal-plastic pipes, collecting a frame from a hoop and additional arcs. To give additional rigidity, the structure is reinforced with several horizontal arcs, the elements are connected to each other with self-tapping screws.
  2. The finished frame is braided with a cord using the macrame technique, sheathed with fabric or crocheted.

  • lightning;
  • pillow or inflatable balloon;

Fastening suspended rockers to the ceiling, rack, beam

For any suspended structures, the main thing is a reliable fastening. The safety of those who use the chair depends on it. There are several mounting options:

  • to the ceiling;
  • to the leg stand;
  • to a tree branch or beam (for the street).

If there is a stretch ceiling in the room, then it will be problematic to install the mount. In this case, you need to mount the structure before fixing the ceiling, or you should purchase a special stand-leg.

Consider different installation options.

  1. A hole can be drilled in a concrete ceiling, a powerful anchor with a hook can be installed in it to suspend the structure. There are special kits on sale, consisting of anchor, hook and chain. The fasteners must be able to support at least 120 kg.
  2. The voids in the ceiling through the hole must be filled with a special solution of high strength polymers - chemical anchors. These formulations are sold in syringe tubes. Then you need to insert an anchor into the hole and wait a day until the composition is completely dry.
  3. For ceilings with sturdy joists or for terraces and outdoors, bolting is suitable.
  4. For a suspended ceiling, it is worth purchasing a special suspension that has a bracket that is attached to the concrete ceiling and exits through the suspended one. A hook is screwed to it.

    The mounting bracket is installed on the concrete ceiling, then a hook is screwed to it

  5. The slings are tied to a tree branch with a strong knot.
  6. The leg stand can be purchased at the store. It is convenient because the chair is not permanently fixed in one place and it can be moved, and, if necessary, disassembled and transported.

Diy rack drawing

The simplest stand-leg for a hanging chair can really be made by yourself.

  1. The wooden rack consists of only 5 parts, but it cannot be made without special equipment, all the parts are bent.
  2. The most common option is a metal stand. To make it, you will need a metal pipe, pipe bending equipment and welding.
  3. A simple version of a metal rack: the design does not require complex drawings and special skills.

    For stability, a simple metal post is attached to the vertical support with a chain or cable

Then we invite you to the virtual world of hanging furniture, where together with the Dream House website we will not only see the types of such chairs, but also decide how to use them in the interior.

What is a hanging chair

For the first time a hanging chair for home was created by a designer from Denmark in the middle of the last century. Despite its venerable age, it, as before, belongs to the category of designer furniture. Recently, however, it has been increasingly used for the arrangement of country houses and city apartments. Ergonomic design, modern materials and unusual shape make you choose a hanging chair.

What is it like? This is a comfortable bed, mostly wicker made of vine or rattan, or made of modern materials such as acrylic or plastic, which is suspended from the ceiling by a hook. Thus, it turns out that in it you can swing in different directions, as in childhood on a swing. By the way, the second name of this unusual "flying" furniture is a suspended swing chair, which fully justifies its name.

Many people are interested in the question of how much weight a seated person can withstand when suspended from the ceiling? This question should be asked directly to the seller, because the indicator may vary depending on different models and materials - some chairs can withstand a person weighing up to 100 kg, while others can hold heavy weights up to 150 kg in their "arms".

Types of modern hanging chairs

Suspended chairs can vary in shape and material of manufacture, but, as a rule, they all allow you to sit and swing back and forth, left and right, and even diagonally. The only exception is one type of chairs, which is attached not only at the top to the hook, but also fixed at the bottom. By analogy, this design is similar to the attachment of a punching bag, which is fixed to the floor and to the ceiling. As you can imagine, on such a chair you will not be able to swing from side to side, it will only allow you to rotate around its axis.

The frame of such a chair can also be of several options. The rattan and vine wicker hanging chair has a rigid body, as are the modern egg chairs made of clear plastic or acrylic. For ease of location, soft mattresses and are placed inside.

But there is also a softer option - this is a hanging hammock chair, which looks like a real fabric hammock, only in smaller sizes.

Which one you prefer is up to you, but perhaps the most comfortable models are those that allow you to retire and abstract yourself from the outside fuss - these are cocoon chairs, closed on three sides with wicker walls and comfortably enveloping the person sitting inside.

There are even such wicker models that are made in the form of a drop with a small window designed only to get inside. And then you find yourself in your own separate world, full of comfort and enjoyment of solitude.

Hanging chairs on a frame or rack

As you already know, hanging chairs are suspended from the ceiling or from wooden beams, but there are some that are fixed to a metal rack on the floor. These models are the most functional because:

  • firstly, they are mobile - such chairs can be carried and installed anywhere in the house and even on the street;
  • secondly, the frame itself can be detached from the rack and suspended from the ceiling.

Hanging chairs in the interior of an apartment or house

The advantage of a hanging chair is that you can fit it into any interior style. For example, for pick up a solid rattan model, for a white cobweb chair, a hanging hammock fits perfectly into a rustic style, and a cocoon or plastic egg fits into modern styles. Also an excellent option for would be a chair made of metal rods.

You can place a hanging chair-ball (or its other name bubble - from the English bubble, which translates as "bubble"), an egg or a cocoon somewhere in the corner of the room, continuing the seating area next to the sofa and other armchairs. In this case, small-sized models that are made in the same color scheme and from the same material as the rest of the furniture will look good.

In the second case, the hanging chair can be turned into the main accent of the room. For these purposes, an extraordinary model (for example, with engraving and LED lighting), placed right in the middle of the room, is suitable. In order not to be known as an individual farmer, opposite your bed, install another chair for your soul mate.

But let's go back to the backlit chair mentioned earlier. This original masterpiece of design ideas will allow you to relax with maximum comfort after a hard day. Drawing on the surface of the ball is applied based on your preferences for an individual order, whether it will be funny openwork curls or a futuristic web, it depends only on you. But besides this, even the color of the backlight can be chosen to your taste - depending on your mood, you can change the color of the glowing ball, for example, a soft green or light green color will relax and relieve tension, at the same time, if you are in high spirits, then red is more suitable.

Hanging chair for summer cottage and garden

Hanging chairs for the street can be attributed to a separate type. If the furniture installed indoors can be made of any material, then a chair made of materials resistant to natural disasters will be required for placement on an outdoor area. It must withstand high humidity and the scorching sun.

It is better to choose a suspended chair for a summer residence or for open ones from artificial rattan - unlike its natural counterpart, it withstands the influence of atmospheric phenomena better and, therefore, is more durable. But even such furniture must be removed from the street in winter. The best storage place during unused periods is in an unheated room (not in a damp barn).

Whatever hanging chair you look after, the main thing is to choose it for the interior or exterior, so that in shape and size it fits well into the surrounding environment. But the most important thing is that a chair suspended from the ceiling or to the frame should be comfortable, so before buying, test it not only for strength, but also for comfort. Do not hesitate to settle in a cozy cocoon right in the store!

Modern design solutions for home decoration often involve original furniture for work and leisure. Plain soft chairs are not the only option, they are not always appropriate. When arranging a cozy place for relaxation, you should consider hanging models.

Features of wicker chairs

A distinctive feature of the wicker chair is its delicacy, it looks light and airy. Even in the case of close interweaving of the rods, the openings remain, giving free access to air. The hanging product allows you to swing slightly forward and to the sides, which contributes to better relaxation. Such models are popular not only for children or country houses, they are considered universal.

A number of advantages that a hanging wicker chair has are quite significant:

  • room decoration. Thanks to beautiful patterns, the use of different shades, a combination of thin and thicker rods, the product turns into a real masterpiece. Designer models can decorate even the most sophisticated interior;
  • practicality. The main part of the wicker chairs can support up to 120 kg. Artificial rattan and metal frame increase the permissible load up to 150 kg;
  • comfort. Children and adults alike like to wiggle a little in the hanging product. It is no less comfortable than a rocking chair or ordinary soft models, it allows you to take your favorite relaxation position;
  • a light weight. Products from 16 to 20 kg will not overload the ceiling beam or floor thanks to the special uprights. There is a hanging wicker chair made of textiles, its weight will be from 5 to 10 kg, if you take into account special pillows;
  • ease of care. Models of chairs made of threads are vacuum cleaned and washed, others are wiped with a damp cloth. Products made from natural rods are wiped with polish, garden furniture must be varnished.

Not all style directions accept wicker furniture: there is no place for it in the high-tech and baroque interior. But such chairs will successfully fit into the classic, rustic, ethnic and loft style.

Types of hanging wicker chairs

According to the method of placement, the wicker chair can be ceiling-mounted and with a special holder-holder. In the first case, a metal chain or strong rope is used. The product is suspended from a wooden beam or on special hooks mounted in the ceiling. A simpler method, which does not require fastening the chair, will be the option with a stand, on the top of which the product will hook. The advantage of this model is its mobility, because it can be easily rearranged, deployed to a window or fireplace. The classification of the types of chairs is also based on the shape of the wicker.

Due to the flexibility of the material, a wide variety of models are created:

  • classic - assumes the presence of a backrest, armrests, and a seat. These elements may not exactly resemble floor construction parts. In addition, openwork weaving creates a kind of weightlessness, in contrast to heavy, bulky counterparts;
  • the ball is a round-shaped chair, of considerable depth. Often this model is designed for two people, so it takes up more space;
  • an egg is a product similar to the previous one, only of a more elongated shape. A chair without armrests is very similar to an egg, it is considered more compact, but it is designed for one person;
  • basket - is a large bowl of twigs with a diameter of 1 meter. They are suspended in such a way that it is convenient to sit down and lean back on a small back. The model is designed for frequent rest of the owner in a semi-recumbent position, although it also assumes a seated position;
  • cocoon - chairs of this model are considered one of the most closed, therefore they must be made of combined weaving. A similar modification - a drop-shaped one has a very small opening for the entrance. Designed not so much for sitting as for resting or working in a supine position.

For small apartments or country houses, you can choose a compact hanging wicker chair. It fits easily on a balcony or small open veranda.

Frame materials

The frame materials determine the level of comfort when using the chair and affect its service life. Products are made from natural wood: rattan (the core of rattan rods is used here), willow vines, walnut, grapes, bamboo. Wicker furniture made of lightweight metal, rattan, plastic, nylon is no less popular. Artificial rattan is the most common option for placing the product in the garden. It is a plastic tape that does not require varnishing or polishing, and is easy to weave.

Aluminum, hollow steel is often used to create a frame, but due to the high thermal conductivity, it can be hot or cold for naked skin.

Weaving materials

For weaving the back and seat, thinner twigs of a tree vine, nylon threads, rattan are used. After shaping, the chair is covered with fabric or cushions are placed for comfortable seating. There are soft models consisting of intertwined threads and fabrics. Textiles are more reminiscent of a hammock, they are used more often in suburban conditions than for relaxing in an apartment. Wicker chairs without frame are woven using macrame technique. Such a product will be appropriate, even decorate the interior design in the country style, vintage.

To shape the wicker chair without a rigid base, a special mount is used. The ends of the rope of the product are first passed through the holes in the wooden crossbar, which will provide support and prevent the textiles from getting tangled in one lump.

Weaving techniques

A common method of weaving hanging chairs is the macrame technique. For self-production, you will need two hoops to create a base, 12 meters of slings, cords for connecting hoops, gloves, a centimeter, and scissors. It is easiest to use a checkerboard pattern when creating a seating net, the knots should remain flat so as not to cause discomfort. When weaving the threads, it is necessary to ensure that they are evenly tensioned, this will affect the appearance and elasticity of the chair. In order to finish weaving beautifully, you should not cut off the fixed threads, you can leave them, forming a fringe.

Operational Features

Long-term use of wicker chairs is possible only with proper care. So that the furniture does not get wet, does not lose its shape, there are operating rules, it is recommended to adhere to them:

  • do not expose furniture to constant influence of water, moisture. Otherwise, its elements may swell and break under the weight of a person;
  • not to be located in rooms with high air temperatures;
  • if the chair is suspended in the garden, shade must be taken care of. Prolonged exposure to sunlight leads to drying out of the material, in which case the shape of the product may change;
  • when leaving, it is unacceptable to use aggressive cleaning agents, acetone, they affect the loss of strength of the attractive appearance of the chair;
  • it is best to do wet cleaning with an ordinary soft cloth dipped in soapy water;
  • in order to avoid damage to the surface, it is unacceptable to use brushes, washcloths with a rough texture;
  • if scratches appear from careless use of wicker furniture, you can hide the details with polyurethane varnish.
