Installation of a drainage system made of pvc. Roof drains - design, function and installation A organized roof drains

The stream of water destroys everything in its path. No wonder they say that a drop wears away a stone. And if there are countless such drops and they all fall on the roof of the house! The water flow must be diverted so that it does not destroy the roof and wash away the foundation.

Drainage system in a private housemust effectively accompany the drainage of water, snow, ice from the roof in order for the house to remain your real fortress.

Gutter

Roof gutters are usually considered a roofing element. And not in vain, since the most important part of the water intake system is attached to the roof, more precisely along the entire length of the roof overhang during its construction. House design cannot do without taking into account the construction of the drainage system.

Gutter:

  • collects rainwater, thawed snow or ice;
  • removes water or mass of water through the drain funnels;
  • holds on itself a mass of snow or water until the water mass descends into the ground or drainage system.

Gutters are made from different materials, and each of these materials has its own properties:

  • strength;
  • design, external coating (the color of oxidized copper patina or the whole rainbow of colors on plastic gutters and pipes);
  • durability (from 5 to tens of years);
  • prices.

New and classic gutter materials

What are roof gutters usually made of now? The whole variety of materials can be conditionally divided into four categories:

  • PVC (polyvinyl chloride)Is a polymer, plastic, but strong enough material. Usually made up of tool joints, lightweight and easy to install, does not require painting. Polyvinyl chloride is a relatively new material for gutters, which began to massively replace impractical galvanized gutters, which quickly oxidize and become unusable. Minus - under impact or heavy load, such plastic gutters are prone to splitting and require replacement of the entire section, however, they are much cheaper than metal ones, and their installation does not require special knowledge. At the same time, more expensive models of such a drain are now being produced, which are attached to a rather complex system of brackets and are provided with a full set of sealing and knee-coupling joints.

  • Aluminum- lightweight, but durable, can be connected both from sections and selected by individual structures from long, sometimes up to 10 meters, strips. A significant plus - combining lightness, has great strength and resists corrosion, retains its color and appearance for a long time, does not require painting, and lends itself well to drilling. The price of such a drain is optimal, with the high quality of the material and its high reliability. Minus - aluminum is heavier than plastic pipes, and welding or sealing cracks, punctures, requires special equipment and skills.
  • Cast iron - classic type of drainage system for private houses and large city buildings. Such metal gutters were installed by our grandfathers and great-grandfathers and many of them still serve to this day .

Cast iron is very resistant to external damage, looks very solid, but very heavy, and it is rather difficult to connect it - bolt fasteners are required . In addition, such metal gutters require constant painting, and self-drilling great care, since cast iron gutters are fragile, despite their strength.

  • Copper- the most expensive material for gutters. However, copper drainage systems are the most durable, have the optimal weight, strength, are covered with an oxidation layer, which adds an element of high cost, durability and strength to the exterior of the building. Copper is easy to install, lends itself well to bending and does not require painting, but it is quite expensive and may not always match the design of the building, in particular the color of the roof.

Profiles: beauty and practicality

As with any construction material at home, gutters can be made in different profile options. Here, the choice mainly depends on both the personal preferences of the owner of the house, and on some practical points. The simplest options can be a regular round profile and a rectangular one. They are attached to special brackets-brackets that attach the gutter to the roof elements. A more complex shape, but also a more beautiful faceted profile is actually a design version of a round profile. There is also a jib profile, which, thanks to its peculiar shape, can be nailed directly to the roof drain board. The simpler the profile of the gutter, the lower the price, while maintaining all other properties of either a metal or plastic drain. So everything here will depend on the personal decision and advice of the designer.

However, it is important to know that roof gutters, their design, location and construction method have a very serious impact on the appearance of a building.

Gutter system: five important elements

Drainage systems, with all the differences in the materials used for their installation, are similar in terms of the manufacturing scheme and installation technology.

  • Along the entire length of the roof overhang, brackets are attached to the lathing beams or special drainage elements to support the gutters.
  • The eaves overhang is made as a continuation of the main lathing. In this way, maximum structural strength is achieved, which will not be superfluous in case of ice removal or large water flows.

  • The gutters are placed with a slope to one another to ensure a natural drainage of water.
  • The angle of inclination is from 1:10 to 1:20, depending on the length of the gutters.
  • The brackets for supporting the gutters are usually placed at a distance of 50-70 cm from each other. It is advisable not to hammer the brackets with nails, but to connect with a screw connection to ensure the strength of the fastening.
  • The gutters can be fastened to the brackets both from the top and from the bottom.

The connecting nodal bracket is made as a single and watertight joint at the corner joints between the gutter sections. Couplings hold the downpipes together with the downpipes. At the end of the drainage ring, if its installation is not provided on the next side of the roof, an end section with a plug is placed. Sometimes, to prevent the sections from breaking, the plugs are made removable to discharge ice from the drain.

Fastening the gutter

After we have collected water from the roof along the contour of the roof, it must be taken into the ground, and not spilled over the surface of the wall, which will already receive its share of moisture from inclined rain streams.

The bracket holding the gutter in place of the water outlet can also support the funnel, which picks up water either at the corner cut, or at the end, or in the center of the gutter into the straight section of the downpipe. The bends are fastened with special couplings, and the pipe is attached to wall with mortise screws screwed into dowels or other connecting structures.

Drainage

As a general rule, it is necessary to drain water not behind the wall of the house and pour it into the concrete plane of the blind area, but transfer it to the drainage.

Roof drain as:

  • direct transfer to the drainage system;
  • transferring water from the drainpipe to the water intake well,

these are ideal schemes for organizing a competent drain in a private house.

Such a scheme will require a little more time for construction, but it will make it possible to significantly protect the house from erosion and the effect of water on the structure of the roof, walls and foundation. Direct connection provides for the transition of the downpipe without open elements into the drainage system. In a private home, such a drainage system can be directed into an underground system for reuse, for example, for watering a vegetable garden, garden, use for flush water, as well as for cleaning and using it in decorative pools or other elements of landscape design of the site.

If there is a desire to make a broken water transfer scheme, then from above, at the place of receiving water, arrange a grate holding branches, leaves and other debris. The end of the downspout is made with a mark - a specially bent pipe directed away from the wall. Thus, the ingress of water on the wall and the basement of the foundation is minimized, and the water is transferred directly to the drainage system. If the use of a drainage system is not provided, it is advisable to make at least the simplest groove to drain water from the wall and foundation and drain it to the street water intake system.

Installation of PVC gutters

Consider the specific features of the installation of different types of gutters. The simplest way to install a gutter in a house is to construct a gutter made of polyvinyl chloride.

The technology for installing PVC gutters is very simple and in general terms repeats the five basic elements of the construction of gutters already mentioned by us. However, there are a number of its own features:

  • PVC pipes are very light and they can be installed independently, however, given that the standard length of pipes is about 2 meters, and the work will have to be carried out at the height of the house, using stairs or scaffolding, it is advisable to carry them out at least together;
  • pipe jogging is carried out by ordinary sawing, which is very convenient, since it does not require special equipment. Sawing is preferably carried out with a new, or re-sharpened and sharp tool in order to ensure the least amount of burrs that will not allow the subsequent elements to be firmly fastened into the lock;
  • all elements of PVC pipes are very simple and are installed using the fastening materials included, as a rule, in the purchase kit.

Installation of a metal gutter

Unlike PVC gutters, metal gutters are unlikely to be installed on your own if you do not have this practice. In this case, the best option would be to contact a roofing and engineering specialist. The builders of the InnovaStroy company will be able to professionally, quickly and efficiently carry out the installation of the drainage system, organize the drainage system, repair and design the necessary engineering elements in your cottage. At the same time, the company provides a wide range of services, including the construction of turnkey cottages, in which are designed and installed drainage systems with drainage elements.

In any case, if you install a metal drain, you will first need to calculate the angle of inclination and mark it with a lacing pointer. But then each version of metal gutters has its own assembly features:

  • aluminum gutters are usually fastened with their own connecting brackets;
  • cast-iron gutters do not have fasteners, they are assembled individually;
  • copper gutters can have their own connection variants with snap-on ends and roof outlets

Secrets of a successful gutter system

As in any element of building a house, the gutter system in a private house has a number of features that are used in practice by craftsmen and tested by experience. Let's share these secrets with you:

  • if you need to accurately calculate the cross-section of the gutter pipe, then you can take the following formula: 1 square centimeter of the cross-sectional area of \u200b\u200bthe drainage system element can provide water drainage from 1 square meter of the roof area;
  • the color scheme of gutters and pipes should preferably be matched to the color of the roof and the color of the walls. Only copper pipes and gutters stand out from the colors of the walls;

  • open gutters are very susceptible to the forces of winter winds, therefore they can make a strong rumbling sound, if you do not strengthen them and constantly monitor the tightness. It is advisable to install closed water drainage systems, although open systems have a high permeability;
  • it is advisable to place funnels for draining water at least every 6-8 meters. This makes it easier to align the angle for draining water and give the required structural strength;
  • when installing the gutters, it should be remembered that it is advisable to make the slope so that the water flowing through the drain gutter drains from the docking edge of one section to another, and does not flow under it. This will eliminate unnecessary wicking and add integrity to the structure;
  • after installing all external contours and gutter fasteners, it is advisable to reinforce the joints with silicone. This will prevent leakage and make the system more efficient;
  • if you fix it yourself, for example, a PVC drain, then you will hardly be able to make an accurate calculation of the length, therefore it is recommended to buy a length 10% longer than the measurement of the roof perimeter gives;
  • plastic gutters are soft and therefore for their installation, usually at the request of the manufacturer, it is necessary to mount the brackets at a distance of no more than 1 meter. For different types of metal gutters, this requirement is no more than 2 meters. An increase in the length of the placement of the brackets can lead to the collapse of the structure or bending and the lack of normal water passage;

Gutter: practicality, beauty and economy

It would seem that the simple task of arranging rainwater or snow, ice streams in a house requires a systematic approach. Private house drain plays an essential role in the safety of house structures, in particular walls and foundations. Drainage for the roof can be organized according to a standard scheme, using simple technologies. But for its competent installation, both knowledge and certain experience are required. If the drain for the roof is supplied without the required slope or without the use of other technological features, then water drainage will be difficult, and maybe you will get an extra moisture accumulator right under the roof. In any case, an amateur approach to the construction of a drain can lead to unpleasant consequences, including the collapse of drainage systems.

However, in addition to purely practical application, the arrangement of high-quality drainage adorns the facade of the building. It gives it solidity, indicates the thoughtfulness of the entire structure. If a properly executed drainage system is combined with an effective drainage system, then the foundation of a private house will serve the owners for a very long time and impeccably, since it will not be subject to constant washings. Now, water will not sharpen the stone, but will be serve for the benefit of the owner, either for watering, or for other household needs.

To summarize our short story, it should be noted that a correct and high-quality drainage system will not only save the house from external influences, but also give an effective design and can save money on house maintenance, in particular, watering.

Rainwater flowing from the roof can cause a lot of trouble: a wet foundation and walls of a house, a destroyed blind area and paving slabs, a flooded basement and a basement. In order to avoid the destructive consequences of the action of water, roof drains are installed, which are part of the drainage system of the house, which ensures that rainwater is drained from the roof and directed to a specific place.

As a rule, gutter systems consist of 3 main elements: a fitting, a gutter and a pipe. Depending on the section, they are divided into: round, square and trapezoidal. Installation of roof drainage systems is different and depends on its design features. For example, for a flat or you will need to install a drain system around the entire perimeter. Installation begins with attaching a plug that gives the water flow the desired direction. After entering the water intake, water will flow into the drain system. The installation of the bend must be done using adapters installed at a certain angle, and all parts are attached to each other with couplings.

Special tees make it possible to correctly distribute water flows, thereby ensuring a moderate load on the system. Installation of drains on the roof is carried out using clamps and brackets. During installation, additional parts are also used - baskets and nets that protect the drain from clogging; shower receivers; drippers to prevent water accumulation.

Drainage systems can be metal or plastic. A budget option is galvanized steel, which has a big drawback - low corrosion resistance. Aluminum and copper systems are much more durable, but their cost is quite high. Plastic structures are the most common, since at an affordable cost they are lightweight, resistant to mechanical and corrosive damage, and retain a wonderful appearance for a long time. In addition, such systems are durable and easy to install.

Drainage system design

When installing a drain on the roof for a small building, it will be appropriate to use a gutter up to 110 mm in size and pipes up to 75 mm in diameter. If the roof area is large, then the gutter and pipe are needed more than –130 mm and 100 mm, respectively. For buildings with a huge roof area, a 200 mm diameter gutter and a 150 mm pipe will be required. The length of the gutter directly affects the downpipe - if its length exceeds 8 m, then two downpipes will need to be installed.

To install plums with your own hands, you will need certain materials and tools:

  • pipes and gutters;
  • connection elements;
  • gutter plug;
  • rubber seals;
  • funnels for receiving water;
  • glue and sealants;
  • hacksaw or grinder.

It is important to pay attention to some of the nuances before making do-it-yourself plums on the roof. The gutter should be fixed to the roof and wall at an angle to the downpipe to ensure efficient drainage. It is necessary to carefully study the instructions attached to the purchased kit, which should contain a detailed installation diagram.

Installing drains on the roof with your own hands

Below is a step-by-step instruction for installing do-it-yourself roof drains:

After all the steps taken to install the drain on the roof, rainwater will no longer catch you and the foundation of your house by surprise, but will be competently diverted to the right place or accumulate in containers for further use.

How to make a do-it-yourself drain from the roof - installation features

Water has a detrimental effect on almost all building materials, including brick, wood, concrete, etc. For this reason, a house without a drain installed on the roof quickly loses its appearance, walls and foundation begin to collapse.

Experts advise in no case to neglect the installation of a roof drainage system. In our article, we will figure out in detail how to make a drain from the roof yourself and how to take care of the system.

Roofing system elements

Roof drainage can be internal or external. For private construction, an external drainage system is used. Such a drain is installed on a single-pitched, multi-pitched, hip roof.

Elements of the drainage system from the roof of a private house:

    Chute. Required to collect rain and melt water from the roof. Available in various shapes and sizes, made of metal or plastic. The gutter directs water to the downpipe.

    Connecting strips for gutters. They have rubber seals, due to which complete tightness of the connection is ensured, and the clips also compensate for the expansion of the gutter material due to temperature changes.

Important: the connectors are included with the gutter system only if the length of the gutters is more than 2.5 m.

    Corner for the gutter. Needed to walk around corners of a building. Thanks to the corners, the entire gutter system is provided with high hydrodynamics.

    Brackets - holders. These elements are necessary for attaching the drainage system to the roof. They are hooks of different lengths and sizes for hanging the gutter and securing the downpipe.

    Funnel. Through it, water from the gutter flows into the downpipe. Be sure to install! If the drainage system is of high quality and the installation is done correctly, it does not require additional sealing.

    Plugs. Installed at the ends of the gutter so that water does not drain in the wrong place.

    Roof drain pipes. Water is drained from the gutter along it. It is mounted directly under the funnel and is securely fixed to it.

    Pipe and drain elbow. The elements are installed above and below the downpipe.

    Cap or mesh. Reliable protection against small debris falling into the chute.

Important: caps are not always included with the system. But experts recommend purchasing separately if they are not available. The grids greatly simplify the maintenance of the weir.

Selection of the diameter of gutters and downpipes

The choice depends on the size of the roof of the house. If the roof has a small slope with an area of \u200b\u200b10 to 80 square meters, then it is recommended to use a gutter with a diameter of 90 mm, a pipe diameter of 75 mm. Roof with large slopes over 100 sq.m. should be completed with gutters with a diameter of 100-150 mm, a pipe with a diameter of 90-120 mm.

Overview of galvanized and plastic drains

Consider the two most popular types of drainage systems - galvanized and plastic drains.

The galvanized roof drain is water resistant and inexpensive. It is available in different colors, which allows you to fit the drainage system into the design of the whole house. Modern galvanized gutters are polymer coated, which makes them stronger, more resistant to corrosion and fading. The drain service life has increased significantly. The system brackets are snap-in design. The gutter connections are equipped with rubber bands and brackets.

The disadvantage of such a drain is a high noise level, like any metal product.

Plastic gutters are very popular. PVC products are more than affordable, and their functionality is in no way inferior to more expensive options. Roof drain installation is simple and can be done independently. The weight is minimal, so the drain can be attached even to the lightest roofing elements.

The range of colors is wide, and will allow you to choose a worthy decoration for your home. Drains will not create unnecessary noise, unlike metal counterparts.

The disadvantage of a plastic roof drain is the deterioration of the quality of the material due to exposure to sunlight. Plastic also does not tolerate temperature extremes. The mechanical resistance of plastic is low, but this indicator is typical only for pipes and gutters of large diameter.

Do-it-yourself roof drain installation

Installation of the drainage system takes place according to the following plan:

    The gutter holders are attached first. The maximum distance between them is no more than 900 mm.

    Fits into gutter holders. The gutters are connected by connecting strips.

Important: at this stage it is extremely important to carefully observe the required angle of inclination; for these purposes, you can use a regular cord. The required angle of inclination is indicated in the instructions for the gutter system.

    Plugs are installed at the ends of the gutter.

    The funnel is installed in the center or at the edge of the gutter and is secured with brackets. An angled knee is fixed to the funnel (it takes the drain closer to the wall of the house).

Important: pipes are collected from top to bottom!

    Pipes are attached to the wall with brackets.

Important: the distance from the pipe to the wall of the house is at least 4 cm. If the pipe is tighter, there is a risk of condensation on the wall and the development of fungus.

    A branch is attached to the bottom of the pipe. The distance to the ground from the level of the outlet is from 20 to 30 cm.

Care recommendations

Modern roof gutters do not need to be painted or protected over time. But the autumn drain cleaning is a prerequisite for the proper operation of the entire system.

Leaves, branches and other small debris enter the system and clog it. The easiest way to remove debris is by using a strong pressure of water from the hose. To prevent debris from entering, experts advise installing special nets on the gutters.

It is impossible to avoid blocking the walls of the house during the rain, when large masses roll off the roof. In addition, erosion of the soil near the house, water penetration to the foundation or basement may occur, which will also adversely affect the performance of the building.

How can you avoid all these problems? It is easier to prevent them than to deal with the consequences. And the drainage system will help with this.

Role of roof drains and their importance for normal building operation

The main purpose of the organized water drainage system is to provide a controlled flow of precipitation from the roof of the building. The gutter is designed to direct rainwater in the right direction. With its help, you can organize the discharge of water into a variety of containers (usually barrels or baths), take it away from the building, or send it to the drainage system.

The correct arrangement of gutters helps to avoid soil erosion, flooding of basements, destruction of house structures and adjacent communications.

In addition to all these important tasks, the gutter also performs a decorative function - it separates the roof from the facade and therefore should fit as organically as possible into the overall architectural style of the building.

Types of roof drains

Depending on the material, the entire mass of gutters is divided into metal and plastic. Occasionally you can find ceramic and even stone plums, but this is something of an exotic and is rarely used.

Metal plums, in turn, are divided into:

  • galvanized - the most widely used;
  • zinc titanium - almost not subject to corrosion, very durable, but easily deformed;
  • aluminum - are highly susceptible to mechanical damage;
  • copper - beautiful, but quite expensive;
  • lead - very persistent, but now rarely used.

Of all metal gutters, the best today are considered to be galvanized with a polymer coating, which protects the metal from corrosion, has high frost resistance, is not afraid of ultraviolet radiation and, thus, significantly increases the service life of the system.

Depending on the installation area, the gutters are divided into external and internal. Internal gutters are used to drain sediment from flat roofs of multi-storey buildings. Small houses with pitched roofs are equipped with external gutters.

According to the type of connection of individual elements, roof drains are divided into systems with rubber seals and glue.

Gutter selection

Most often, the selection and installation of the drainage system and the installation of the roof occur simultaneously, therefore, they also need to be ordered at the same time.

If the building has a complex roof configuration, then in order to calculate the drains, it will be necessary to conduct a thorough analysis of its area and geometry, as well as the necessarily possible maximum volumes of waste. An incorrect calculation will overflow the gutters, and the entire drainage system will become useless.

It is also important to choose a type of drain that will be in harmony with the roof and facade of the house.

Ultimately, the whole selection process comes down to the definition of three parameters:

  • the material from which the plums will be made;
  • sizes of system elements;
  • element shapes.

Before proceeding with the installation of drains, it must be remembered that each type of gutter has its own installation features inherent only to it.

Manufacturers must indicate them in the instructions attached to the system. Therefore, when buying, do not forget to require documents for the drain.

The procedure for installing gutters

  • First you need to determine the location and the number of downspouts. If the water intake funnels work as a gutter connector, then they are first installed in the designated places. At the ends of such devices there are devices for a tight connection with the trough. This could be a rubber seal or a designated spot for glue application. Such funnels are attached to roof structures with brackets.
If the funnels of the purchased system are designed to be attached directly to the gutters, then they are mounted after installing the gutter. To do this, a hole is pre-cut in the funnel at the attachment point. The funnel is attached to the gutter with glue or mechanically by snapping in a special lock.
  • Having studied the installation instructions, the brackets for laying the gutters are fixed at the required distance. In the case of a plastic system, this is usually 50 - 60 cm, for metal systems, the distance is more - 75 - 150 cm. The holders are positioned so that they provide a slope of the gutters towards the funnel (usually 2 - 3 mm per 1 running meter of the gutter). To do this, the bracket farthest from the funnel is installed at the highest point, a cord is pulled between it and the funnel, and then the remaining hooks are installed along it.

The brackets can be attached to the front board (plastic holders are used), and if the roof covering has not yet been mounted, then to the rafters (metal holders).

  • The gutters begin to be laid, starting from the funnel, snapping the edge of the gutter into the retainer made on the edge of the bracket. The gutters themselves (depending on the type of gutter system) are connected to each other using glue, soldering or connecting elements. Please note that systems assembled with glue cannot be dismantled.

The gutters are installed so that their edges are below the line continuing the roof. This will help to avoid the overflow of water flows over the edge of the gutter, and also during the sliding of snow from the roof will reduce the likelihood of it falling into the gutter (otherwise, the gutters may tear off under the weight of snow and ice).

  • In the next step, corner elements are attached to the gutters, allowing you to bypass the corners of the building and the protrusions of the facade.
  • Side plugs are attached to the ends of the gutters.
  • Installation of drain pipes is carried out from top to bottom - from the funnel. The distance from the pipe to the wall of the house should be at least 4 - 8 cm. The pipe sections are connected by means of couplings and fixed to the wall in height with clamps located at a distance of 1 - 2 m (this is indicated in the instructions of the system supplier).
  • If the pipe collects water from two funnels, then use tees.
  • The lower branch of the pipe (directly the drain) is fixed at a distance of at least 30 cm from the ground. If a linear drainage system is provided, then this distance can be reduced to 15 cm.

What else you need to know about the installation of drainage systems

Maintenance of roof drains

No matter how well the gutter system is installed, it needs regular maintenance.

Gutters, especially with insufficient slope (less than 10 0), rather quickly overgrow with dirt and fallen leaves. Therefore, for the normal functioning of the drain system, it must be completely cleaned at least 2 times a year. And if special nets installed in the upper part of the gutters can save from the foliage, then this is not an obstacle for dirt.

Over time, gutters can start to leak. To eliminate small leaks, there are special rubber rings with titanium, but if the damage is large, you will have to change part of the system.

The roof of any building is the first to take on all adversity: rain streams, snow mass, gusts of wind. Moisture, which can accumulate in the unevenness of the roofing, is especially harmful. To eliminate possible troubles, special devices are installed on the roof - plums. In this article, we will show you step by step how to install plums on the roof of a house with your own hands.

The value of plums

If moisture remains on the roof surface, this can cause destruction of the roofing material. Water affects not only the surface of the roof itself. It can seep into the joints between the wall and the roof, hit the ceiling, and even damage the foundation. To prevent this from happening, a whole drainage system is designed and installed, the basis of which is gutters.

They allow you to direct the water flow in the desired direction. In this case, water must enter a specially equipped drainage system, which allows it to move further into the sewage system.

Note! If you correctly design and properly install a drainage system, this will extend the service life of the living space, save the walls and foundation from premature aging.

Materials for the manufacture of the drain system

Various materials are used for the construction of sinks. All of them have both advantages and disadvantages. The criteria for choosing a material are the quality, cost and availability of material resources from the owner of the house.

Materials for installing the drainage system can be:

  • Galvanized steel. This is the most affordable material. However, it has a significant drawback: over time, it is susceptible to corrosion. Therefore, its service life is short.

  • The same steel, but polymer coated. It has an attractive appearance and long service life. The polymer coating allows you to get rid of the main drawback - fast-forming rust. This material can be painted with a special paint of such a color that it organically fits into the external interior of the house. Particular attention should be paid to installation, while excluding damage to the protective polymer layer. It is somewhat more expensive than galvanized, but it will also last much longer.
  • Plastic or PVC plums are popular due to their low cost, ease of installation and long service life. However, if during the preliminary design mistakes were made, as a result of which a water column may form in the drain, then such pipes in winter may not withstand and develop. Such plums make the appearance of the house more modern, as they are made in different colors. The service life of such systems, if properly installed, is thirty years or more.

  • Drains and drains can be made of copper. It has practically no flaws. But it has a very high cost and only a person with great income can afford such plums.

  • It is possible to make plums from lead. Due to its excellent technical characteristics and physicochemical properties, it does not corrode and is not susceptible to temperature changes. Installation is not difficult.
  • Ceramic plums. Ceramic material drainage structure is durable, temperature resistant, easy to install. There is a significant drawback - there is a high probability of blockages.
  • Cement gutters have excellent performance characteristics, they are inexpensive, durable and reliable. They are especially popular when performing a drain system for small buildings: summer cottages, baths.

Preparatory activities

  • gutters, couplings and brackets;
  • funnels for receiving water flow;
  • fitting;
  • downpipes to be installed vertically.

For a correct calculation, it is necessary to calculate the roof area and the number of corners. The diameter of pipes, the number of funnels and pipes, gutters depends on these parameters. If the roof is large, then it is necessary to additionally install horizontal drains and the system will turn out to be rather complicated and cumbersome.

It is best to entrust the calculation to specialists, then you will not have to purchase unnecessary material. Calculations are carried out with great accuracy.

Installation

To install drains, it is necessary to carry out work in strict sequence:

  1. Choose the optimal amount of material, components and purchase the right tool. So, it was decided to install the system using plastic pipes. They are not susceptible to corrosion, are easy to install and have low weight.
  2. The components of the system will be: gutters, fittings, brackets, connecting devices. Brackets are needed to attach the vertical pipe to the walls of the house. Fittings allow you to change the direction of water flow. With the help of the gutters, the water is directed into the funnels. It is necessary to determine a specific place where the water will drain and orient the entire system in the chosen direction.
  3. Bracket mounts are fixed on the wall at a distance of sixty centimeters from one another. They are attached to the wall surface using self-tapping screws. The gutters are installed on brackets at a distance of two and a half millimeters from the end of the roof. Be sure to measure the distance that is needed for the optimal location of the gutters.
  4. When producing a one-sided drain, a special plug must be provided. By closing one side of the gutter securely, it is possible to ensure that the water flows in only one direction. If the overall dimensions of the house are small, then it is quite possible to do with a gutter with a radius of six centimeters, and the drain pipe is suitable with a diameter of ten millimeters. For dwellings with a larger roof area, the dimensions of the rainwater drainage system must be proportionally increased.
  5. The main rule when installing a drain system is to maintain the desired angle of inclination. The difference between the top and bottom end of the gutter should be between five and fifteen millimeters.
