Tablet pc galaxy tab. Samsung Galaxy Tab S review: new flagship tablet

Samsung has unveiled a new tablet this year from the Galaxy Tab A line - a model called the SM-T280. The device is a 7-inch mid-range gadget with and for a low price.

The company has released a small but functional gadget for its customers.

Let's make a more detailed overview of the characteristics of the new model, learn about its parameters and the possibilities that it provides to the user.

Contents of delivery

The scope of delivery, as before, is minimal - documentation, a USB cable and a charger. Nothing new, unusual or superfluous. Headphones or a case, a protective film on the screen, everyone acquires at will.

Design

As usual with this manufacturer, Samsung Galaxy Tab A 2016 is outwardly simple in design, but looks attractive - the designers' sense of style does not disappear over time. The tablet is produced in black and white colors.

The manufacturer's logo is placed on the top front, a function key on the bottom, and two touch-sensitive buttons on the sides of it. The camera connector is visible on the back, on the side of it is the speaker and another reminder of who released this gadget.

The body is made of matte plastic, it looks nice and dignified. The dimensions are quite compact, the device can be carried with you lightly, it weighs a little. Such a decision determines and - the device is well suited for the user for work, study, travel, as it is convenient to take it with him.

In general, the external design does not cause any complaints and will appeal to many buyers, the device will fit well into any environment, which makes it versatile.

Screen

The model is equipped with a 7-inch screen with a resolution of 1280 × 800 pixels, which guarantees good image quality. Such a diagonal is the most popular among users, because it is convenient for watching movies or web pages, but at the same time the tablet remains compact and mobile in order to always have it at hand.

It is worth noting that IPS screens, like this Samsung Galaxy Tab A 2016, are remarkable for their quality and are the best option for such technology. They are inexpensive, provide colorful images with great viewing angles. Such a display will perfectly cope with basic tasks - such as watching videos or photos, reading, using the Internet.

Performance

The tablet comes with an Exynos 3475 processor, which has 4 cores and clocked at 1.3 GHz. The performance is also affected by the RAM, which in the Samsung Galaxy Tab A 2016 is 1.5 GB. Combining the characteristics, we conclude that the tablet has decent performance, which is sufficient for a mid-range device.

Such parameters are enough for everyday tasks - using the Internet, watching videos or movies, reading and working in applications, even if all this happens at the same time. Naturally, a tablet cannot be considered a gaming tablet - equipment with such a specialization is much more expensive, since more powerful parameters are required for games.

Of course, you can play on this device, but the graphics are unlikely to be the most realistic, and the applications that require applications may not be displayed correctly. So the tablet can be used mainly for work, and on the road it will come in handy as a compact multimedia center.

Multimedia capabilities

The multimedia capabilities of the Samsung Galaxy Tab A 2016 can be judged based on screen parameters, performance and sound. If we talk about the screen, then its quality will allow you to enjoy a beautiful picture of a movie, video or photos, and the size of 7 inches also plays in its favor.

The speaker is located on the back, close to the camera, but not on the edge, so you won't be muffling it while holding the device. It produces a pretty good loud and clear sound. The performance of the model is sufficient for the full performance of all tasks related to multimedia. For storing files, the system provides 8 GB of memory - not much, but the tablet reads cards up to 200 GB in size without any problems. Therefore, you will have a place to store all your books, documents, photos and TV shows, and it is better to use the main space for applications.

Battery and run time

The tablet has a 4000 mAh battery. Considering the work of the system, this power should be enough for 9 hours of operation of the Samsung Galaxy Tab A 2016. In fact, this indicator is very relative - it all depends on how intensively you use the device.

It can be assumed that since the screen, like the processor, does not consume too much power, the battery will be enough for one working day. In some cases, if you use the tablet for only an hour and a half a day, it will hold out for several days without any problems.

Camera

The main module of the Samsung Galaxy Tab A 2016 has 5 megapixels - not bad for a mid-range device, but not enough for high-quality pictures. However, in most tablets, cameras are delivered as far from the main one, but therefore you should not expect much from them.

In general, with the help of the camera, you can take good pictures in optimal lighting, it will help you out in situations when you need to photograph something urgently. The front 2MP module will help you create good selfies and cope with video calls. Nothing else is needed from this camera.

Operating system and programs

The Samsung Galaxy Tab A 2016 tablet runs on the Android system with the Lollipop shell, which is common to many devices of this brand. As before, this software is easy to use, a standard menu in the form of a list of applications, and even a beginner will not be difficult to understand the settings and interface.

The system works stably and smoothly, the basic set includes all the necessary programs to start using the tablet: browsers, mail, an alarm clock with a calculator, settings, file manager, player, multimedia storage and several more programs.

Installing other components is not difficult using the Google store, so there is nothing special or unusual about the tablet system. As, however, it was not found in it and any shortcomings.

Competitors

If you're looking for a mid-range tablet at a low price, with a 7-inch display and optimal performance, take a look at the Samsung Galaxy Tab A 2016 rival Asus Nexus 7. It has a slightly better screen and clocks in at 1.5 GHz. ... In general, according to the review of the main parameters, the tablets are almost identical, and they cost almost the same.

Other competitors are in some way superior, and in some way inferior to this model, so a more detailed comparison should be done on your own, based on your needs. In general, the device is quite an original and worthy gadget, so it is worth paying attention to it.

Advantages and disadvantages

The Samsung Galaxy Tab A 2016 tablet is a good device with powerful characteristics for its price level, in which I would like to note the following advantages:

  • Nice external design.
  • Quality display with good viewing angles.
  • High performance.
  • Sufficient battery capacity.

Among the minuses, as always when it comes to tablets, we can mention the cameras. As for this particular device, it also lacks 3G, 4G, LTE, which are becoming more and more popular. However, if they were available in such a device, its cost would become much higher.

Conclusions or conclusion

The Samsung Galaxy Tab A 2016 is a great user gadget for everyday tasks - accessing the network via Wi-Fi, working with documents and multimedia. Compactness and harmonious dimensions make it convenient both for home and for use on the road, which adds to its attractiveness. It is equipped with a high-quality display, has high performance, looks stylish and is appropriate in any environment.

Therefore, this model is undoubtedly worth your attention. It will provide the user with everything they need - and at a cost that correlates well with the quality of the equipment.

Samsung is pushing Apple into the tablet world for a variety of reasons. Or, it would be more correct to say, a lot of Samsung tablets. And if earlier Apple offered iPad tablets in only two sizes, today, the Pro series are multifunctional tablets with keyboards and stylus in different diagonals, as required, forcing Samsung to impose competition in new markets. So, the manufacturer showed in 2016 the Samsung Galaxy TabPro S based on Windows 10, and at the beginning of 2017 updated the flagship series with a 9.7-inch Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 tablet, a keyboard, a stylus and four speakers, in response to. Thus, the choice of Samsung tablets is still much wider, starting with children's tablets Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 (from 8.000 rubles), moving into the middle price range with tablets Galaxy Tab A (from 15.000 rubles) and ending with premium flagships and hybrids. like Galaxy Tab S3 (from 40,000 rubles) and Galaxy TabPro S.

Samsung offers similar designs and software to its top-selling smartphones and tablets, making the transition from one device to another virtually seamless. Alternatively, you can use your Samsung tablet as a remote control to control your TV. Review of Samsung tablets is not complete without the unique Multi Windows function, which divides the screen into several parts for the purpose of multitasking (on more expensive models). However, some Samsung tablets are worth your money more than others, so it's worth checking out our Samsung tablets review before you head out to the shops.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 (45.0000 r.)

The long-awaited update to the flagship Galaxy Tab S series has finally hit store shelves. The new Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 offers an extremely attractive slim body design, based on the design of the latest smartphones in the series, the Galaxy S7. The gorgeous 9.7-inch AMOLED screen comes with HDR support. The new tablet comes with an S Pen with the Air Command app. The four active-orientation speakers are designed by AKG to deliver unheard-of sound quality for tablets.

Nevertheless, the tablet confirms its flagship position with an equally flagship price. It offers average battery life and its keyboard is sold separately, has small keys and is not very stable. While the Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 wows you with its gorgeous HDR display, framed by a premium design, the high price tag may chill the ardor of some users.

SAMSUNG TABLETS 2016

Samsung Galaxy Tab A 7.0(14.000 rub.)

Launched in 2016, the Samsung Galaxy Tab A 7.0 tablet is a junior addition to the Tab A series, which launched in 2015 with the Galaxy Tab A 9.7 and Galaxy Tab A 8.0 tablets. And the new tablet has become not only smaller, but also cheaper, abandoning the Super AMOLED panel of the flagships, which significantly influenced the price.

Sure, the Samsung Galaxy Tab A 7.0 isn't the highest performing tablet out there, but for the price you get decent web surfing and video streaming. The affordable price makes the Tab A 7.0 great, which attracts a new category of users. So, with a price tag of around £ 1,000, you get decent performance for day-to-day tasks in a familiar design with good build quality.

Samsung Galaxy TabPro S(60.000 rub.)

The new Samsung Galaxy TabPro S is an uncharacteristic Samsung machine that boggles the mind. Without a doubt, Samsung's best Windows 10 tablet, but one of a kind. It's a versatile station for watching videos and reading on the big screen, not surprising given Samsung's success in this area with previous Android tablets.

The disadvantage of the tablet is its keyboard. It works great on a flat table, but is quite unstable on the lap, which shrinks the Samsung Galaxy TabPro S mobile tablet. To sum it up, the Samsung Galaxy TabPro S works perfectly as long as you use it as Samsung intended. And yet, damn it, this is Samsung's first Windows 10 tablet!

Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 9.7(45.000 rubles) | Galaxy Tab S2 8.0(40.000 rub.)

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 tablets are becoming a lite (literally) version of the original 2014 Tab S. However, even though they have become thinner and lighter, they still cannot keep up with. On the other hand, there are many reasons to invest in these excellent tablets that are perfect for reading and surfing the web. Their size and shape are best suited for anything but video, and for some users this bodes well.

The new Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 tablets also offer powerful multitasking, easily rivaling iOS 9 on iPads, as well as multitasking capabilities in. Samsung and its Galaxy Tab S2 tablets are head and shoulders above other Android tablets, even if this year's update isn't too big.

Samsung Galaxy Tab A 9.7(21.000 rub.)

Tablet Samsung Galaxy Tab A 9.7 is a budget representative of the Galaxy Tab line, but not the best one, because it loses to competitors in screen resolution. At the output, we get practically visible pixels with very mediocre characteristics. The compromises Samsung made to lower the price ultimately just don't justify that price. If you want the best value for money, we'd recommend taking a look at last year's tablets, which dropped in price significantly, perhaps even outside the brand.

The tablet isn't all that bad, in fact - it could be a great budget option if it got a reasonable price tag. Unfortunately, Samsung hasn't been generous, which makes the other tablets in this category a better choice.

Samsung Galaxy Tab A 8.0(19.000 rub.)

Come around the corner and start with the Acer Iconia Tab 8, which has a much higher screen resolution (1920 x 1200 pixels) and offers a Micro HDMI port. The Galaxy Tab A 8.0, on the other hand, handles any mid-range task consistently, making it a more practical tablet for daily use.

Another competitor, Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 8.0, which you can find cheaper by 3-4,000 rubles, offers an infrared port. However, the Galaxy Tab A 8.0 offers modern Android and better performance. It also doesn't suffer from low screen resolutions like the Tab A 9.7, thanks to its smaller diagonal. When the price of a tablet falls below 15,000 rubles, it will enter the ranking of the best tablets under 15,000 rubles.

Samsung Galaxy Tab E 9.6(16.000 rub.)

The Samsung Galaxy Tab E 9.6 is the ideal device for inexperienced users. The new Galaxy Tab E series has demonstrated reliability, good packaging and other features not typical for the budget tablet market. Build quality is flawless and size remains a good compromise. The bright IPS display is also an uncommon feature for the segment. And while the hardware could be more powerful, users looking for a tablet for web browsing and light gaming shouldn't have a problem with the Samsung Galaxy Tab E 9.6.

A review of the Samsung Galaxy Tab E 9.6 tablet showed that it will not easily fit into the low-cost segment, but it is still a decent choice. We recommend paying attention to competitors like.

Samsung Galaxy View 18.4(55.000 rub.)

We love the idea of the Samsung Galaxy View more than the tablet itself. For £ 55,000, it should offer a significantly better screen (some tablets now offer twice the resolution) and a more practical design. The only way to justify buying a Galaxy View tablet is if it meets your very specific needs. We hope that the next version of the tablet, if there is one, will be able to offer a redesigned design and an updated screen. Then, perhaps, the giant Samsung tablet will find its buyer.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5(25.000 rub.)

Not many tablets are thinner than the iPad Air 2 and have a better screen, but the Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5 is capable of imposing some serious competition. It's an attractive 10-inch tablet that rightfully boasts a gorgeous Super AMOLED screen, perfect for watching movies and controlling your smartphone with the innovative SideSync app. With a long battery life, colorful display and kid mode, the Galaxy Tab S is equipped to keep the entire family entertained.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4(20.000 rub.)

Like its 10.5-inch big brother, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4 offers its users a stunning Super AMOLED display in a sleek design, but this tablet will fit in the palm of your hand. Games, movies and apps all look amazing on its 8.4-inch 2560 x 1440-pixel screen. And the reliable kid mode makes it a safe companion for your kids. With a slim and sleek body in bronze colors, you don't have to envy the design of the golden Apple iPad Mini 3.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 Nook(9.000 p.)

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 Nook is worth skipping, and not at all because of its funny name. Despite the long battery life and the $ 200 Barnes & Noble balance, this 7-inch Samsung tablet has a depressingly low display resolution and convoluted menus that will make your head die before you even get to the book. If you haven't invested in the Nook ecosystem, you might want to opt for the £ 6,500 Amazon Kindle Fire HD 7, which offers a great screen and better parental controls, and most importantly, cheaper.

Samsung Galaxy Note Pro 12.2(RUB 37.500)

A review of Samsung tablets will not be complete without the largest representative of the series. The strongest Android tablet for professional use is equipped with an S Pen for notes and a full-size touch keyboard that offers everything a laptop can offer. The Galaxy Note Pro also offers enhanced functionality with an enhanced Multi Windows feature that opens four applications simultaneously on a 2650 x 1600 pixel display. You will also find a pre-installed copy of Hancom Office on your tablet for viewing and editing documents. However, the $ 300 price tag is far from cheap for a tablet, and the size of the 12.2-inch Note Pro will also put off some buyers.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 Kids(10.000 rub.)

This colorful Samsung kids tablet has the same specs as its budget-friendly sibling, but comes preloaded with educational apps, games and e-books. The tablet offers a dedicated New Kids app store as well as a time management feature that allows parents to set the duration of use. However, the Amazon Kindle Fire HD 7 (£ 6,500) is much cheaper, offers better visuals and more parental control, although the tablet goes further with its reward system. The Tab 3 7.0 Kids isn't a bad option, but it's too expensive for what it offers.

If you don't have enough funds to purchase Samsung's premium Tab S line, the Galaxy Tab 4 7.0 is a wallet-worthy alternative. An excellent 10.1-inch display with a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels in a thin and attractive design and multitasking features, Samsung's business card is ideal for everyday tasks, whether it be work or productivity. And while the Tab 4 10.1 has a great price tag, the Rs 11,500 LG G Pad 10.1 offers better battery life and is cheaper.

Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 2014(27.000 rub.)

Samsung's tablet review won't be complete without the best 10-inch Android tablet, the Galaxy Note 10.1, with a sleek faux-leather back. The bezel looks even better, with a very sharp 2560 x 1600 screen, even higher than the iPad Air's 2048 x 1536 resolution. The best reason for this tablet is the S Pen, which comes with a new Air Menu that allows you to access and customize most of the pen-optimized apps. Action Menu is a favorite tool because it recognizes specialized data from your handwritten letter (such as addresses and phone numbers). A 1.9GHz Exynos processor and 3GB of RAM will provide adequate power for multitasking tricks, including dragging and dropping between two open apps.

Appearance, arrangement of elements

The Samsung Galaxy Tab E has a pretty nice and stylish design. Unusually concave bevels on the sidewalls and textured design of the back provide good grip during operation and look very presentable.

The body of the novelty is made of high-quality matte plastic (there are options in white and brown), which is distinguished by good wear resistance. Due to the proportional dimensions (241.9 x 149.5 x 8.5 mm) and relatively low weight (490 g), working with the device is quite comfortable both horizontally and vertically (even holding it with one hand).

The front side of the Samsung Galaxy Tab E is completely covered with tempered glass. The bezels around the screen are standard sizes: 18mm at the top, 16mm at the bottom and 10mm at the sides.

Above the tablet display is the front camera lens, and below it there are three standard control buttons: mechanical "Home" and touch "Back" and "Menu".

On the top of the device there is a 3.5 mm audio jack and a micro-USB port, and on the bottom there is a small microphone hole. The right side of the tablet contains a power button and a volume rocker, while the left one is completely dedicated to the needs of the microSD slot.

The back of the Samsung Galaxy Tab E is occupied with the usual set of elements: the lens of the main camera and a multimedia speaker.

To increase comfort during operation and protect the tablet from possible damage, it is advisable to purchase a branded cover-cover for it. This accessory is made of plastic (base and fasteners) and leatherette-like material with an interesting textured pattern on the outside and a soft surface on the inside.

It perfectly fixes the tablet in special grooves and provides trouble-free access to all functional elements (there are necessary cutouts).

The front of the cover is divided into three segments that can be folded into a triangle-shaped support. This allows you to position the tablet vertically, for example, for watching videos or working with photos. In addition, this position is fixed with a magnet, which helps to avoid accidental opening.

The build quality of the Samsung Galaxy Tab E is pleasing. All structural elements fit very tightly - there are no backlashes or gaps. The rigidity of the case is also at a height, because even with increased pressure, nothing creaks or sags, and the image on the display remains free of visible streaks and other artifacts.

Display

The Samsung Galaxy Tab E has a 9.6-inch PLS screen (1280 x 800, 157 ppi). The aspect ratio used (16:10) makes it equally convenient to work with text and enjoy watching movies. The matrix is covered with a protective glass (no name), under which there is a small air gap. Also on the screen there is a good oleophobic coating and an anti-reflective filter.

The screen offers pleasant color reproduction, high contrast and excellent viewing angles (up to 180 °), but average details. The brightness is adjustable only in manual mode. Its maximum value is at a good level, so under bright sunlight you can count on comfortable work with information. The minimum value allows you to interact with the device in complete darkness without much strain on the eyes.

Built-in touch pad supports recognition of up to 10 simultaneous clicks. Everything works quickly and accurately, without false positives and other inconveniences.

Audio subsystem

The Samsung Galaxy Tab E comes with one multimedia speaker, which delivers loud and fairly high-quality sound across the entire spectrum. It has high and medium frequencies, and also occasionally there is a hint of bass, which is quite enough for comfortable performance of everyday tasks.

The sound in headphones from third-party manufacturers (gaming and vacuum Vivanco HS 200 WT) turned out to be quite simple and uncomplicated. It also had a standard frequency range, but lacked a little headroom.

Camera

In the arsenal of the device there are two cameras: the main one is a 5-megapixel CMOS module with an aperture of f / 2.2 and autofocus and the front one is a 2-megapixel CMOS module with an aperture of f / 2.8 and a fixed focus. Both are capable of recording video at a maximum resolution of 720p at 30 fps.

The photo and video materials captured with their help are of good quality (considering the class of the device). They may well be used for solving the simplest everyday tasks, for example, photographing text or video communication.

The proprietary camera software has a simple and intuitive interface. It contains several preset shooting formats and a decent manual mode, so it will be suitable for both beginners and more experienced users without any problems.

Examples of filming

An example of daytime shooting from a tabletSamsung Galaxy Tab Ein 720p resolution at 30 fps

Custominterface

Tablet Samsung Galaxy Tab E runs on Android 4.4.4 KitKat operating system, which is supplemented by the proprietary TouchWiz shell. This symbiosis looks and feels vigorous and very attractive.

Of the interesting features, we highlight the ability to quickly go to personal files from the main screen of the system (a special shortcut in the lower left corner) and an improved launch of applications from the sidebar in terms of performance (triggered by swiping from the right edge). The function of simultaneously launching two applications has not gone anywhere.

The tablet settings menu has a nice design and contains all the necessary list of tools for editing the most important parameters of the device.

Overall, the operating system's speed is pleasantly pleasing. Flip through desktops and launch applications smoothly and clearly. Only occasionally there are uncritical hiccups in animation.

Performance and communication capabilities

At the heart of the Samsung Galaxy Tab E is the rather exotic Spreadtrum T-Shark 2 processor (4 x 1.3 GHz), which is based on the 28 nm ARM Cortex-A7 microarchitecture. The built-in graphics adapter ARM Mali-400 MP2 (500 MHz) with support for OpenGL ES 2.0 and OpenVG 1.1 acts as a video accelerator. The amount of RAM is 1.5 GB, and the permanent memory is 8 GB, of which about 4.83 GB is available to the user.

The overall performance of the tablet is far from any record. But this does not prevent him from coping with all everyday tasks and running many modern games at low graphics settings. This is also accompanied by good energy efficiency, so even long-term and active work does not cause problems with the heating of the case.

The reviewed model is not equipped with a built-in radio module for SIM cards. However, there is a version of the gadget on the market with full 3G support and the ability to make phone calls. More traditional methods of data transmission are represented by Bluetooth 4.0 and Wi-Fi 802.11 b / g / n (2.4 GHz) modules. Also, the device is able to broadcast multimedia content using DLNA wireless technology.

The search for Wi-Fi points and connection to them is fast, and the established connection has good stability.

The built-in geolocation module can work correctly with GPS and GLONASS systems.

Autonomous work

The installed non-removable lithium-ion battery (5000 mAh) is sufficient for a full day of uninterrupted operation in conditions of moderate use. Activating the power saving mode will allow you to count on higher levels of autonomy.

While watching HD video (MPEG-4 / AVC, M4V container, 4 Mbps stream) at 50% display brightness and Wi-Fi and GPS modules turned on, the device worked for almost 9.5 hours, and in the case of game simulation (Asphalt 8: Airborne) - about 4 hours at 100% display brightness.

The estimated battery life according to the PCMark benchmark reached 7.5 hours, while the GFXBench benchmark showed 430 minutes of working time. In both cases, the Wi-Fi and GPS modules were turned on, and the display brightness was at 50%.

To fully charge the battery, you need to spend about 5 hours connecting the device to the USB port of a stationary device.

Outcomes

Tablet SamsungGalaxyTabE proved to be quite an interesting and well balanced gadget. It contains everything you need to become, if not a bestseller, then a very popular device on the market.

We liked the stylish and practical design, solid body materials and excellent build quality. The novelty is equipped with a good 9.6-inch PLS-screen and a loud enough multimedia speaker, which successfully copes with the output of almost any information. Thanks to the energy efficient hardware platform, the tablet is capable of performing all daily tasks (surfing the Internet, checking mail, watching videos, editing text, etc.), as well as running some modern mobile games at low graphics settings. In addition, it is worth noting a good level of autonomy, which, due to the built-in lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 5000 mAh and a very effective power-saving mode, can reach about two days of uninterrupted operation from a single charge.

The only controversial nuance of the device is its price, reducing which the manufacturer could get rid of many serious competitors and attract a huge segment of potential buyers to its side. However, even without this cardinal step, the Samsung Galaxy Tab E deserves the attention of users as a well-balanced working tool with a pleasant design and a wide range of functionality.

Advantages:

  • stylish and practical design;
  • excellent build quality;
  • large and good screen with protective glass, oleophobic coating and anti-reflective filter;

Samsung recently introduced a new line of flagship tablets: the Galaxy Tab S. Today, the line includes only two gadgets: with 10.5-inch and 8.4-inch screens. We got an 8.4-inch test - we'll tell you about it.

Super AMOLED 8.4 '' screen with a resolution of 2560x1600 pixels, weighing only 298 grams, 3 GB of RAM, about 10 hours of continuous battery life.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S review: new flagship tablet

Many, by the way, were surprised that Samsung seemed to have “forgotten” that the company's portfolio already has flagship tablets: Galaxy Note Pro. Although, it seems to us, the company has not forgotten anything, but simply decided to rename the line, drawing an analogy with smartphones, where Samsung's top models are released under the names Galaxy S and Galaxy Note. However, if in the case of smartphones the difference between the S and Note lines lies in the diagonal of the screen, then this is not observed with tablets. Nevertheless, the Galaxy Note Tabs, which are also produced by Samsung, are still slightly different devices: equipped with a Wacom pen and a special touch layer for it and equipped with software to support the pen and numerous "pen" functions, which, however, were not very strong. are in demand.

As you can see, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4 has no direct competitors. iPad mini Retina is a conditional competitor, because the worlds of tablets on iOS and Android overlap very weakly. Most often, when choosing a tablet, buyers are guided by either the “iPad only” rule, or “anything but Apple”. LG G Pad 8.3, on the other hand, is already outdated by at least a year, and therefore is not very suitable for direct competitors either.

Appearance

The tablet is made in the style of other Galaxy gadgets of 2014. Unity of style is a sign of a serious approach. At the same time, it is not so easy to confuse it with other tablets and smartphones from Samsung, but with the products of other companies, you cannot confuse it at all, if you understand at least something about it.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4 appearance

First of all, it is worth noting the rather narrow bezels around the screen. They make the tablet really compact. At 8.4-inches, 0.5-inches more than the iPad mini (Retina), the Galaxy Tab S is narrower and more comfortable to hold with one hand. Although, at the same time, it is slightly longer - due to the aspect ratio of the screen 16: 9, and not 4: 3, like the iPad.

Below the screen is a block of buttons typical for Samsung products.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4 buttons

On the right side there are all the necessary buttons and connectors, except for audio. Here you can see: a power / lock button, a volume rocker, an infrared port for controlling household appliances (for example, TVs - TVs of most famous and not so famous manufacturers are supported), a microSD slot and a micro-SIM slot.

Right side Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4

Bottom - micro-USB for charging and synchronization, as well as a 3.5 mm jack for connecting headphones or a headset.

Bottom end of Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4

By the way, the tablet is equipped with stereo speakers - they are located at the bottom and top ends. If you turn the tablet horizontally, as when watching movies, then they will create a good stereo base for such dimensions. This, by the way, compares favorably with the same iPad, where stereo speakers are located at one end.

The back of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4

On the back, you can find only an 8-megapixel camera lens and a diode flash (and in our case, also a sticker with a test sample number).

Screen

Both tablets (Galaxy Tab S 8.4 and Galaxy Tab S 10.5) use a Super AMOLED screen, but if the 10.5-inch uses the traditional RGB Stripe layout, then the 8.4-inch uses PenTile. However, with such a high pixel density (359 ppi) it is not so easy to notice.

Adjusting the display color

We have no complaints about the color rendition of the screen (recall that many gadgets from Samsung have the ability to adjust the color rendition of the screen - from film-neutral to acid-bright), and also to the brightness reserve. The viewing angles are maximum, although it must be remembered that AMOLED screens can give off purple at certain angles of view.

Software

Traditionally, a Galaxy product comes with a pre-installed TouchWiz shell. For some, this is a plus, for others, a minus is a subjective question. It seems to us that the shell as a whole is not bad: it is quite functional and at the same time not very overloaded.

To date, the Galaxy Tab S runs Android 4.4.2. In our test, about 50 applications were preinstalled, which we consider to be some overkill - an uninitiated user will have to figure out what's what for a long time. And you cannot remove unnecessary standard applications.

Preinstalled Apps Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4

Separately, it should be noted that Samsung Galaxy tablets equipped with a cellular module are traditionally endowed with full-fledged telephone functions - here, again, there is a difference from the Apple iPad, in which the cellular module is used only for packet data (Internet access). The dimensions of the Galaxy Tab S 8.4 even allow you to talk on it like on a regular "phone", putting it to your ear (although, we must admit, it still looks rather ridiculous), but nobody canceled stereo headsets, including wireless ones.

The "dialer" interface of the tablet Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4

We do not exclude that someone will even keep the Galaxy Tab S 8.4 as the only device, instead of a phone and a tablet. People walk around with smartphones, the screen of which is already more than 6 inches.

By the way, typing on the virtual keyboard is most convenient in vertical orientation, with two hands:

TouchWiz keyboard in portrait orientation

TouchWiz keyboard in landscape orientation

Special thanks to the manufacturer for the fact that both numbers and letters are located on the same section of the keyboard - no need to switch again.

Performance

In terms of hardware, the Galaxy Tab S is fine. Even in AnTuTu, its performance is not too far behind the Galaxy S5 smartphone.

Measuring the performance of Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4 in AnTuTu Benchmark

And in the Unreal Epic Citadel benchmark, the minimum FPS values (frames per second) sometimes dropped to 15-18.

The games, however, are going well, although not as fast as we would like. One of the most "heavy" games in terms of graphics for today, Frontline Commando 2, "by eye" produces 20-25 frames per second, i.e. quite "playable", but the smoothness is still lacking.

Here Android (a similar problem is observed in all "retina" -tablets on Android, not just the Galaxy Tab S) is still lagging behind iOS.

Camera

Traditionally, tablets do not shine with the quality of the camera, but indoors, we think the Galaxy Tab S has a good result. No worse than shooting outdoors. Although, even on a cloudy day, it is noticeable how narrow the dynamic range is.

Considering that the dimensions of the Galaxy Tab S 8.4 today do not differ much from phablet smartphones, the idea of photographing on such a tablet no longer seems absurd to us.

Autonomy

Unfortunately, AnTuTu Tester refused to work stably on the Galaxy Tab S 8.4, and therefore we can judge the battery efficiency solely from the experience of use. Well, one cannot fail to note the leap that was made by Android tablets in general and Samsung Galaxy Tab in particular - if before 10 hours of continuous operation iPad seemed to be something unattainable for competitors, now these are quite real numbers: really in video viewing mode ( depends on the codec, however), reading books or browsing the web, the Galaxy Tab S 8.4 tablet can hold out on a single charge for 8-10 hours. But if you play, then it will be discharged much faster - in 5-6 hours.

Total

Fans of Samsung technology, and indeed Android tablets in general, should be satisfied: - a really solid gadget, compact enough for such a screen diagonal, powerful. Well, the screen itself also pleases with the color rendition and brightness and resolution. Definitely one of the best Samsung tablets, if not the best.

As for the competitors (if we talk specifically about the model with an 8.4 '' screen), then apart from the same iPad mini Retina and last year's LG G Pad 8.3 nothing comes to mind. Numerous 7-inch Android tablets are still a slightly different class, and their dimensions are not yet as impressive as those of the Galaxy Tab S 8.4.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 - packaging and packaging.

If you start talking about clothes, then in the Galaxy Tab 3 it is certainly good. The design of the tablet box contains, if not a soul, then at least a part of it. The styled wood-like design of the packaging looks very interesting and beautiful. On one side of the box, you can see a close-up image of the tablet itself, as well as its main technical features.

There is also some information on the technical characteristics of the tablet on the back, and a small photo of the device itself.

The Galaxy Tab 3's package bundle is pretty sparse. In addition to the tablet, the box contains documentation, a charger and a USB cable. There are no headphones here, and this is saddening. After all, all the same, Samsung could put ordinary Chinese penny plugs in the kit, but he regretted that too.

Charging supplies the tablet with a current of 2A and a voltage of 5V. Very common settings for tablets and powerful smartphones. Therefore, we can safely say that there will be no problems with charging the Galaxy Tab 3 if you left your charger at home.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 - appearance.

The tablet is made in the style familiar to the Galaxy Tab series. Rounded edges and silver-colored piping on the ends make this tablet recognizable from afar. If we talk about the appearance from the front side, then everything is made quite compact, despite the wide frames around the display.

The top bezel houses the manufacturer's name, front camera and light sensor.

There are three touch-sensitive control buttons on the bottom frame. In addition, the central control button "home" also has a mechanical control, that is, it is pressed inward. Thus, we can say that here we have a certain panel with four functional controls.

And an important point - the "context menu" and "back" buttons, when pressed, indicate themselves with LED backlighting.

The back of the tablet seems to call for "more, more glamor", as it is completely and completely glossy. Which by the way very quickly collects not only fingerprints, but also scratches. But you can't argue against fashion, someone wants beauty, someone wants practicality. Samsung decided that beauty would save the world of tablet sales, so they preferred to dress their device in beautiful clothes.

The rear camera has found its place on the top of the back of the tablet. There is no reason to hope for her gifted abilities, she is naturally 3 megapixel blonde and without autofocus. Therefore, if you have a Galaxy Tab 3 in your hands, then you should definitely not trump the tablet camera among your friends.

On the bottom of the back of the tablet, the amount of internal memory is indicated - 16GB.

I will start examining the ends of the tablet from the bottom, as from the most responsible. The fact is that there is a microUSB connector and a microphone through which the tablet receives charging and sound.

The top end face is rich in control buttons and other elements. There is a power button, a volume rocker, a cover under which a memory card slot is hidden, and an infrared receiver.

Supports Galaxy Tab 3 microSD cards up to 64GB.

Stating that the tablet has a stereo sound design, the manufacturer did not deceive. On the sides of the tablet, there are indeed two speakers. Moreover, their volume is by no means small.

There is also a 3.5mm audio jack on one of these sides.

Summing up a certain intermediate result of the Galaxy Tab 3's appearance, I draw your attention to the fact that the tablet is assembled very well. Nowhere is the case of the device has any gaps, backlash or uneven joining of parts. But the choice of the glossy surface of the back cover of the tablet is, of course, a very controversial decision.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 - screen.

The tablet display is another component that should be attributed to the nice wrapping of the tablet to present it in a good light. Of course, the screen is good, it has very strong saturated colors, I would even say, too saturated, and a good margin of brightness. But oddly enough, not everyone likes this. Someone simply does not like such brightly poisonous colors, and such an opinion has its right to exist.

The screen resolution of the Galaxy Tab 3 is 1280 * 800 pixels. The tablet has a TFT-PLS matrix with all the ensuing circumstances. Considering the matrix size of 10.1 inches, the pixel density is 149 ppi, and the pixels themselves are visible to the naked eye.

Despite the TFT-PLS matrix, the viewing angles of the Galaxy Tab 3 are excellent. When viewed from an angle, colors are not inverted or distorted.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 is an operating system.

The tablet runs on Android 4.2.2 operating system.

The shell Touchwiz Nature UI is used. All design is implemented as much as possible so that from the first minutes of using the tablet you will like it. This is the question of clothing.

By default, there are exactly three desktops. On the main one there is a clock, date and time widget; news widget and google search widget. And just below are the shortcuts of the main services and programs.

If you go to the full list of programs, then they take about one and a half pages. But only the essentials have been installed.

The radio buttons in the top dropdown bar are well implemented, as they have not only labels, but also intuitive icons. A separate line displays the brightness control of the display.

Tablet settings standards. The entire list of settings is brought together in one common column, so there shouldn't be any confusion with finding the options you need.

Of the maximum possible 16 GB, only 11.5 GB is available for use. The rest of the space is occupied by the operating system and system applications.

As for the RAM, after turning on the tablet, it is occupied by about 2/3 of 1GB of space. This state of affairs suggests that with the most powerful games, the tablet will have problems with the download speed.

But its main function - surfing the Internet, the tablet performs perfectly. Browsing the internet with a 10.1-inch screen is a pleasure.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 - camera.

As I said above, the Galaxy Tab 3 has a "fear and run" camera. And the trouble comes from all sides - this is a low-resolution matrix and a lack of autofocus.

The photos shown below are a vivid example when we can safely say that "my 7-year-old Nokia shoots no worse." :)

Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 - performance.

Responsibility for the speed of execution of user commands is assigned to the dual-core Intel Atom Z2560 processor, clocked at 1.6 GHz and with support for core virtualization. The graphics in the Galaxy Tab 3 are handled by the PowerVR SGX544MP2 video processor.

Tests in a number of synthetic batch and graphics benchmarks confirm one fact - the tablet has an average performance. By modern standards, it should be said that this is the very minimum at which we can say that the system does not slow down, and the games are still running.

And if we move on to a rough summary of performance, then this is the edge, especially in terms of the graphics component. Or in simple terms - Galaxy Tab 3 is not the best solution for gaming.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 - battery life.

AnTuTu Tester refused to work on this tablet for some unknown reason. But this does not hurt to judge the autonomy of the Galaxy Tab 3 by several days of practical use. I will continue to cap and declare that the main battery drain in the Galaxy Tab 3 is its screen. Moreover, if you use the tablet at maximum brightness in games or movies, then it is quite possible to bring the poor fellow to shutdown in 5-6 hours. If we talk about the mixed use of the tablet with the main rate on the Internet, then a full charge of the Galaxy Tab 3 is enough for about two days.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 - conclusion.

Putting the Galaxy Tab 3 into the dustbin of time and into oblivion is hindered by the solid stocks of Samsung and retail retailers, which they have been actively trying to get rid of lately. The reasons for this are clear, the Koreans have released a receiver in the face of the Galaxy Tab 4, which simply needs to clear the road for successful sales. It is for one of these reasons that the Galaxy Tab 3 will likely not receive the much-desired Android 4.4 update. That is, you want KitKat - buy Galaxy Tab 4. And this is the first stone in the garden of the 3rd Taba series.
This is followed by the same notorious clothes. Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 is bright and colorful. Its external design of the case and the operating system itself can pleasantly dazzle the potential owner from the first minutes. But it is worth taking a closer look at the details, as nuances immediately begin to appear, which are definitely not encouraging. This is a glossy coating on the back of the tablet, and a weak camera in every sense, and performance that is insufficient for modern games.
The good side of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 at the moment is quality, good looks and a big name of the manufacturer. And a little price - after all, for a 10-inch version of Wi-Fi they are now asking for less than 10,000 rubles. And the choice, as always, is yours. :)
