Do-it-yourself headboards from pillows. How to make and decorate a headboard: options, master classes, decor ideas

You want to decorate the wall above the bed in the bedroom, but you are not sure how to do it. We will show you how to decorate your headboard with your own hands. You are fabulously lucky if your home has enough room for a bedroom with a large bed. The bed is the most important piece in the bedroom, and the headrest and headboard decor are just as important.

Of course, pillows and bedspreads play an important role, but the very design of the wall above the bed is very important. Take a look at our master class: "Panel made of wool using the weaving technique." We hope that you will also want to make a panel or carpet with your own hands.

Headboard decor

Everyone wants to decorate and make the headboard original and comfortable. After all, the headrest of the bed is such an important detail in the bedroom. Consider several options for decorating the headboards.

Beds with a soft headboard are the most popular design option. This piece of furniture can be made by hand.

To do this, you need plywood or thick cardboard, cloth, stapler. Foam rubber sheets are used for the filler. Cut the plywood or cardboard with a jigsaw and give this texture the desired shape: a square, rectangle, or a figure extended upwards. Of course, it is most convenient to fit a rectangle or square.

We put two layers of foam rubber on the base (plywood, cardboard), take a stapler, fabric for upholstery, and begin, pulling the fabric, to work with a stapler. If you also hang curtains from this fabric, it will be just super!

Who would have thought that old doors would become so popular among lovers of eco and country style. In no case throw away the old doors - you can make so many original things from them: shelves, a table, a hanger in the hallway, a housekeeper, and an excellent headboard for a bed.

Small restoration (removal of dirt, stains, old paint), minor repairs, and the stylish headboard is ready. For lovers of the shabby style, this is just a godsend: restore the tree, cover it with dark acrylic paint, rub it with a candle, and finally cover it with white acrylic.

After you go through the corners with fine sandpaper, a shabby is provided for you.

You can use economical methods to decorate your headboard at home. That is, to use materials that can be bought for symbolic money. These are, for example, textured wooden pallets - what is not made of them: furniture, shelves, and even a headboard. Why are these pallets good?

Firstly, because it is a natural tree, and secondly, it attracts a low price (from 100 rubles). This furniture is especially relevant for country houses. If you decide to use pallets in an apartment, most often after parsing pallets into boards and sanding, the wood is coated with a primer, stain, paint or varnish.

The stain will help you restore the structure of the tree - such a bed will look great in the interior.

As much as a comfortable bed and a beautiful headboard, how the wall decor at the head of your bed is done is important. About five years ago, most people began to get rid of carpets. It was believed that carpets were outdated and that it was bad taste and a relic of the past.

People have removed all the carpets from the walls and most of the carpets from the floor. This year, the fashion for carpets has returned - this element is undergoing reincarnation.

In addition, apart from carpets, designers actively use various panels in the technique of weaving and macrame in their projects. Yes, yes, macrame has returned to our home again, only mainly in such products as panels and doorway decorations.

Before you go shopping for carpet, you need to think about what color or shade will suit you for the bedroom. Knowing in advance what exactly you want to see above the bed will save time and effort.

The most recent fashion trend is picture-like carpets. These are not even carpets, but rather tapestries. Which drawing to choose: an abstraction or a landscape, or maybe a scene from an old life - it's up to you. A tapestry like this will brighten up any bedroom.

All over the world there are many people who have chosen weaving as their hobby. Weaving is popular with many designers and artists, and it is no longer just a hobby. Decorating the wall above the bed is a great opportunity to try making an original woven rug with your own hands.

In such a carpet, you can use any materials, combine wool with synthetics, use even seemingly incongruous ones: wool and woven rag, linen and paper, rope and bast, jute and hemp. It all depends on the imagination of the author.
For example, if you take wool for felting and lay it around the warp threads, you get a design reminiscent of soap bubbles.

The next weaving technique is pile weaving.

This product resembles a "shaggy texture", the main thing in this work is a rigid base, on which threads of different colors are fixed with a knot. Most often it is wool or acrylic yarn, but you can use both cotton and fabric trimmings. Any length of pile can be made. These rugs look great over the bed in the bedroom.

Wool carpet using weaving technique - master class

Designers often decorate the wall above the bed with carpets, tapestries and all kinds of panels. Let's try and make a fashionable panel using the weaving technique.

To do this, we need a homemade weaving frame, it can be made from 4 wooden blocks. In this workshop, the frame measures 32.5 / 45 cm (13 "x 18"). You can make a larger size, it depends on the size of the carpet. You also need threads for the warp (thick cotton), which are pulled over the frame (the threads going along the frame are called the main ones, the thread going across is called the weft). The simplest and most popular weave is called plain weave.

Cardboard frame and plain weave.

The spacing between the notches should depend on the thickness of the yarn you are using.

So, for work you will need:

  1. A frame with grooves (notches), the warp threads are stretched on it.
  2. Warp threads - cotton (dark gray in the photo).
  3. The ruler is simple wooden.
  4. Gray wool for the bottom fringe.
  5. White yarn for felting (making "pigtails").
  6. Beige twisted yarn for the cross weft.
  7. Scissors.
  8. Rail on the wall.

We pull the dark gray warp threads (vertical) over the frame, bending around the grooves. In total, you need to pull 35 strings to work.... We pull it harder, below, around the groove - make a knot with a dark gray thread. Thus, the foundation was fixed. Next, we will weave panels. We start with 4 rows of plain weave in beige twisted yarn.

You need to make 7 brushes from gray wool. We cut into pieces of 50 cm.Thus, we need 7 * 20 pcs for brushes. = 140 pcs. segments of 50 cm. each. We take the first bundle of cut segments and, starting from the lower right corner, we begin to bend around 5 strings (Fig. 3 and 4).

We tie 7 brushes and straighten them. For brushes, you can use inexpensive thread, not necessarily wool.

Next, we cut off the white twisted yarn 2 m. 40 cm. And such pieces need 5 pieces. Our next stitch is called a sumac and it is done with a braid. You can use 1 strand of yarn, but 5 strands gives us the volume we need. After all, our panel is three-dimensional. We wrap every 3 strings, as shown in fig. 9 and 10. And so on until the end of the row.

We take our wooden ruler and “trim” the finished row, pressing with a ruler. When we reach the last string, we bend around the string and start weaving again. For convenience, you can thread a thread or knitting needle horizontally between the strings. This will make it easier to weave.

We use all the pieces of thread prepared for the braid. Then we have a plain weave again.

10 rows of plain weave, then divide all our strings by 4 pieces. On every 8 strings we will make a braid of white yarn for felting. If you do not have yarn for felting, take any yarn and “fluff” it with your hands. We make a braid, as in fig. 13 and 14. There will be 4 such braids.

After that, again 10 rows of plain weaving, a braid of 5 threads, and again 10 rows of weaving.

Then we need to remove the carpet from the frame. Remove the upper threads as shown in fig. 18. Make loops and thread a wooden strip through them. For this rail we will hang the carpet on the wall above the bed. We tie all the knots from below, hide all the ends of the threads on the seamy side.

It remains only to hang the panel over the bed.

That's the whole master class. Now you know what to make from the leftover yarn, ribbons, cords, ropes, and so on.

In each bedroom, the bed takes center stage. After all, this is the place where we relax after a hard day's work, watch TV, read books and sleep. Therefore, the design of this piece of furniture should be given special attention. Do-it-yourself headboard will allow you to create maximum coziness, comfortable and relaxing atmosphere in the bedroom.

In this article, we will talk about how you can originally and colorfully refine your sleeping place with an aesthetically attractive and functional headboard. The most important thing is to use a creative approach and find your own individual style using non-standard solutions.

You can make the following headboard options for your bed:

  • Metallic. This is the most "ancient" type of backrest. Here you can use various forged elements of any design and shape. It is suitable for many styles of interior decoration. For example, such as Scandinavian, classical, Romanesque and others.

  • Soft headboard. This is the simplest design option for a bed. Almost everyone can do it. You don't even need to have any special skills. Just listen to your imagination. Most often, such a headboard has the shape of a rectangle.

  • Headboard made of wood. This is the classic version. The style of the entire bedroom directly depends on how you process the wood.

How to make a headboard with your own hands

All you need to do is imagine the future design of the backrest, purchase all the necessary materials and spend some of your time. In more detail about what options you can build yourself, we will tell you later in the article.

How to make a soft headboard

Do you want to creatively decorate the interior of your bed, making it truly cozy and comfortable? You can always make a soft headboard with your own hands. There are just an unlimited number of execution options.

The headboard can be functional to lean on, as well as decorative. In any case, the bed looks much more beautiful with him than without. You can always lean on the soft headboard and comfortably read a book before going to bed, or watch TV.

The head of such a bed is completely covered with fabric, under which is soft foam rubber. The use of various screed techniques will give you an aesthetically pleasing appearance. As for the fabric itself, you should choose calmer colors, because this is a bedroom in which a relaxing atmosphere should reign. A very bright print will strain your eyes and make you even more tired.

As material you will need:

  • fabric or leather;
  • plywood;
  • foam rubber;
  • glue;
  • stapler.

Cut out the desired shape from a plywood sheet using a jigsaw or a wood saw. We put the required amount of padding polyester or foam rubber around the entire perimeter. It should be a solid piece so that pits do not form and the appearance of the finished product does not deteriorate. We fix it with a stapler or glue. After that, we cover it with fabric or leather. You can nail decorative carnations around the perimeter, make a "carriage coupler", arrange everything in the form of pillows - there are a lot of options. We will talk about them below in the article.

How to make a curly headboard

It will also be soft. The only difference here is the undulating relief of the headboard. It can be absolutely whatever you see it. As a result of such a wooden headboard, your bedroom will acquire a respectable look, chic and opulence. The suede upholstery looks especially attractive. The perimeter of the headboard can be decorated with decorative stones, carnations or patterns.

Before you start creating a masterpiece, you need to draw a sketch of it on paper. It is better to do this in real size on a Whatman paper. The resulting template is easily transferred to the plywood blank.

As for the design option, there can be two of them: a carriage coupler or smooth. In the latter case, there is nothing complicated: attach the foam rubber to a curly sheet of plywood, cutting off the excess, cover everything with a cloth and fasten it on the back side along the entire perimeter, not forgetting to pull it. In places where it is bent, the fabric will fold. They should be given special attention and fastened in such a way that they are not visible on the front.

We make a quilted headboard using the carriage coupler technique

Do you want originality and sophistication? The headboard of the bed looks especially attractive and interesting in the form of a "carriage coupler" (Kapitone). To do this, you will need the following materials:

  • a piece of plywood of the size you need;
  • dense foam rubber with padding polyester;
  • the cloth;
  • stapler, drill, crochet hook, knife, scissors;
  • buttons and sturdy lace to secure them.

The manufacturing process itself is simple and consists of the following stages:

  1. The first thing to do is build a new headboard using plywood boards. You can use the old one, but for this it is worth cleaning it of all the old upholstery.
  2. Marking the holes through which the lace for the buttons will be threaded. To do this, you should use a ruler (tape measure). Do everything as accurately as possible, otherwise you will not achieve a positive result.
  3. Drilling plywood in the marked places with a drill.
  4. Cut out a piece of foam rubber around the perimeter of the entire headboard blank. It is fastened with a special construction stapler.
  5. Cut out a single piece of textile to fit the headboard. We leave a margin around the edges of about 25 cm.
  6. The next stage is more time consuming - fastening the buttons. First, they must be wrapped in pieces of a similar fabric and glued. It is worth using high-quality glue so that the textiles do not come off over time.
  7. After the buttons have dried, take a long needle, lace (thick thread) and sew them to the headboard. We tie the button well (pasted over with textiles) and sew it with a needle. The needle should be kept strictly straight and move from the textile to the back wall of the headboard. We fasten everything firmly to another regular large button on the back side.
  8. When all the buttons are secured, form a fold. She must go from above. And so every button. After every 4th button, we pull the material over the end of the headboard and attach the resulting folds with a stapler. As a result, you should get small diamonds from the folds.
  9. We fasten the fabric around the entire perimeter of the headboard, pulling it well. To make the corners as beautiful as possible, we make the folds of the textile (the upper part is pulled over the lower). Excess fabric near the legs must be cut off.
    The appearance of such a bed will delight you every day and contribute to a relaxing mood. What else do you need in the bedroom?

How to make a headboard out of pillows

Don't want to spend a lot on material, but at the same time transform your sleeping place? Use unnecessary pillows. It is always bright, fun, original, comfortable, unique and funny. A headboard with pillows is perfect for country-style interiors. You will not have any difficulties in manufacturing here.

All you need to do is collect a variety of pillows and glue them to the appropriate size of plywood. Also, you can make them yourself using small scraps of fabric with foam rubber. To do this, you cut the textiles into the required small sizes and form pillows from them and foam rubber. Next, they should be glued to the plywood. The result will surely delight you with its originality, beauty and creativity.

How to make a leather headboard

Do you love everything stylish, modern and luxurious? Then a leather headboard for the bed is the best option. With it, your bed will certainly become the main decoration in the bedroom. It will also save money, since a leather bed in the store will cost you a lot.

Leather as a material has the following undeniable advantages:

  • solidity;
  • long service life;
  • excellent dirt-repellent properties;
  • easy care;
  • aesthetic appeal of the interior.

But at the same time, it is worth choosing the right material for upholstery. The skin should not be very thick (up to 3 mm), elastic and free from defects. In this case, it will be very easy for you to work with it. Do not allow moisture to enter the casing.

How to sew a headboard cover

This work can be done from any material: fabric, leather, leatherette, suede, etc. In the process of sewing, an allowance of a couple of centimeters should be made on all sides (based on the thickness of the filler). This allows you to easily fit the cover onto a pre-designed or existing headboard. It is necessary to sew from the wrong side.

As for the filler (padding polyester or foam rubber), it can be laid after putting on the cover. The cover looks very nice with an ornament of decorative stitches, buttons, buttons and other decors. But for this you must have the appropriate sewing technique to make a beautiful and original headboard cover. In any case, there are no restrictions here, except for the flight of your design idea.

How to decorate the head of the bed

If you want to plunge into the life of the province of France, you can choose the style of "Provence". This is a stylization of the way of life of the old village. A lot of textiles are used here, which depict flowers. Light tones such as blue, light green, lavender, white and others prevail.

The bed with illumination at the top of the headboard will look original. This light can be used as a night light. Also, it will create a romantic and relaxing atmosphere.

A fabric headboard of the same color as the curtains in the bedroom will look very nice.

If your bedroom does not have large spaces, then every square meter is a canopy of gold. Shelves located above the head of the bed can become a wonderful find in this variant. More often than not, there are several of them. These shelves will very conveniently place your favorite books that you love to read before bed, family photos, as well as many different decors.

As you can see, making a headboard with your own hands is not so difficult. The main thing is to approach this issue with the utmost responsibility and carefully carry out each stage. At the same time, you will not spend a lot of your time. But as a result, you will get an original and functional headboard, which no one else has.

Everyone is familiar with the decor for the bedroom - pillows lying on the bed. But why not go the other way and decorate the wall behind the bed headboard with them? A screen is an object that makes any interior more sophisticated. If it was not possible to find a ready-made screen, then it can be made to order or with your own hands. You will need a few rectangular pieces of plywood or wood and metal corners.

11. From universal pallets

Pallets cost a penny, but the scope of their use is more than wide. Several pallets knocked together form a wooden headboard. Do not forget about protective impregnations for wood. Another option is to varnish the surface of the pallet. So the likelihood of injury on its rough surface will be reduced to zero.

12. Fabric panels

15. A little through the looking glass

A mirrored headboard is especially important for a small bedroom. After all, the presence of a mirror surface contributes to a visual increase in space.

The headboard is more decorative than functional. Practical people are more likely to like making really useful things with their own hands. Continuing the topic -

The bed takes center stage in the bedroom. On it you can sleep, relax, read, watch TV.

The most important element of the interior decoration of the bed is its headboard.

Let's talk about what the headboard is like and how you can do it yourself at home.

The first option is classic, made of wood. The way the wood is processed depends on how the bed fits into the style of the bedroom. Strictly made headboards are not decorated, they are made rectangular or slightly rounded. Such pieces of furniture are varnished or painted.

Aristocratic products are decorated with wavy ornaments, and graceful ones made in the Baroque, Empire or Classicism style are real masterpieces.

The metal version is the ancient look of the headboard. This option is used in many styles of bedroom interior.

This headboard design will suit the Romanesque and Scandinavian styles.

The option that uses mosaic or natural stone is another popular type of backrest.

It often uses sea pebbles, glass, ceramics and other materials.

Constructions in which textiles are used are a rather frequent occurrence.

Their widespread use can be explained by the coziness and comfort brought by the fabric into the interior of the bedroom.

Certain types of textiles are suitable for different styles of bedroom decoration.

For baroque or rococo, velvet is used, and satin is suitable for empire.

Bedroom furniture looks stylish, the decoration of which is partially made of leather.

The element upholstered in leather gives it chic and sophistication.

The design in the form of shelves makes it possible to use the bedroom space expediently and free up extra space in it.

It is only necessary to make sure that the items on the shelves do not accidentally fall on sleeping people.

The mirrored headboard is suitable for those who are not committed to Feng Shui.

This teaching does not use a bedroom mirror.

Materials and tools

It is quite difficult to sheathe bedroom furniture yourself. But if you try hard, do not rush, you can get a good result. It is better when the construction is made by the master. But it's never too late to learn something new.

Before starting work, you need to prepare everything you need.

You will need:

  1. A sheet of plywood with a thickness of 8 to 12 millimeters.
  2. Foam rubber sheet from 50 mm and above.
  3. A piece of fabric of a decorative or technical look. It should cover the area of the head of the bed.
  4. Decor details for decoration.

Materials for making a headboard.

It is impossible to do what was planned without the following tools and materials:

  • Electric drills;
  • Jigsaw;
  • A set of drills;
  • Furniture stapler;
  • A set of staples for a furniture stapler;
  • Construction knife and scissors;
  • Twine;
  • Screwdrivers and hammer;
  • Glue;
  • Two sets of buttons;
  • Sewing kit.

Set of tools.

Preparing the backrest frame

First of all, we free the frame from the old sheathing. From the rear, we nail or fasten with screws along the length a pair of boards or plywood. If desired, lengthen the base with 5x5 cm bars. They do not need to be attached to the frame. These will hold the braces that secure the padding.

From behind, the frame will look ugly. You can cover it with plywood.

Hole marking

We mark the holes that we will drill for fastening the material. The template for it will be a perforated Pegboard that stores tools and other attributes.

You can trace the holes that have already been transferred on the perforated board so that you do not forget what has already been done.

All work consists of the following stages.

If there is something on the back of the base that interferes with the free entry of the needle, the holes should be made through for a solid sheathing.

We fix the foam rubber and fabric

We take the foam rubber, dividing it into two pieces by size, and place it along the front of the back with notches towards the bottom. Align the sidewalls and the top of the foam rubber. We cut off the excess.

We fasten the foam rubber on the sides and bottom with a stapler.

Upholstery with textiles. We leave a margin of 25 to 30 cm along the edge. We put the structure vertically draped with the help of fabric and abut it against the wall. It should be borne in mind that when it will be sheathed, we will need free access to it.

It's a good idea to find a partner to hold her back.

We tighten the buttons

Now the most laborious work awaits us - covering the buttons with fabric. The set of buttons has instructions for use, we read it carefully and get to work. But first, a few tips for work.

Be sure to use good glue if you don't want the button caps to fall off over time.

  • We cut out the fabric with a margin, a little more than the template included in the kit. The excess can be cut off after we drive the button cover into shape.
  • We put the fabric and the lid into the mold from the side, then carefully insert.
  • Before inserting the button leg, grease its edges with a drop of glue. Remove excess solution with a napkin. It must dry at least overnight so that the prepared buttons can be used.

We sheathe the structure

To carry out this procedure, you need to stock up on a long needle with a large eyelet, simple buttons and twine. You need to tie the knots on the rope tightly. Several should be done.

The knots on this smooth twine are easy to untie, but on the other hand, it passes freely through the foam and fabric.

We insert a long piece of rope into the needle and put on the button through all the holes, as if it were being sewn. We tie it into several knots.

Make sure you tie the knot well (and more than once) so that it doesn't come loose over time.

We pass the needle through the top center hole that we drilled and move from the back of the headboard to the front. We hold the needle strictly straight. We pierce the foam rubber with a needle, carefully pressing on it from the outside. We take out the emerging needle.

Be sure to keep the needle straight.

We fasten the dried-up button from the front of the headboard. For this:

  • We pass the needle through the eyelet of the covered buttons;
  • We turn the thread around the button and thread it through the eyelet again;
  • We drown the button in foam rubber, at the same time, pulling the thread (the loop holds the button in this position);
  • Cut off the twine, leaving small tails;
  • We tie the ends of the twine at the bottom of the buttons, by analogy with laces;
  • We tie a knot on its back side, we do this repeatedly.
  • Cut off the excess rope, hide the ends;
  • We "pinch" the matter, forming it in folds.

Make sure all the folds are in the same direction.

After fastening the button, form a fold that goes up. Then we attach the next one and again form a fold. Sew on four buttons, stretch the material and fix the folds with staples.

The folds should look the same.

In a similar way, we fasten the subsequent buttons and form new folds of the 1st row. At its end, we continue to sew the remaining surface.

By following all the rules, every diamond on your back will be perfect.

Now small folds are formed and attached after each button to create beautiful diamonds.

You should microfold with your fingers after adding each new button to get the perfect diamond shape.

We fasten the fabric

Bed interior and backrest decor

The interior of the bed depends on the preferences of the owner. Usually the bed is bought ready-made or ordered by the masters. But now it has become popular to decorate a soft headboard yourself.

This method makes the bedroom furniture unique.

The decor of a soft headboard can be very different. It all depends on your imagination and financial capabilities.

An original headboard will help highlight your style and taste.

DIY headboard - 50 photo ideas:

Perhaps the most important accent in every bedroom is the beautifully designed headboard. Since the furniture market offers standard monotonous options, and so you want an exclusive in the interior of the bedroom, you can turn to your creativity and make your own headboard.

Kinds

Depending on the installation method and shape, the headboards are of two types: with a reclining backrest and a simple vertical panel construction.

Considering the reclining headboard, you should pay attention to its clear advantage in providing comfort for the back while reclining while watching TV or reading books.

Among the advantages of the panel are saving indoor space(unlike a reclining back, which lengthens the bed to take up extra floor space, the straight panel only takes up non-functional wall space).

The inclined headboard can be made by hand from a wooden profile up to 20 mm thick or from a chipboard profile. Parts are drawn on the sheet, blanks are cut out, which are carefully sanded and leveled with a file. By means of wooden pins and epoxy glue, all parts are fastened together.

After checking the strength of the gluing, you can proceed to finishing the structure: use both a self-adhesive decorative film imitating a tree, and facing panels, upholstery fabrics. The backrest is attached to the bed frame with screws or bolts and nuts.

Highlights when choosing a headboard

The main parameters when choosing a headboard are appearance and comfort. For those who spend a lot of time in bed reading books and watching movies, a soft headboard is more suitable.

Taking into account the fact that they will often lean on the headboard, you should choose an upholstery fabric that will be easy to care for (wear-resistant artificial or natural leather will serve as the best material).

The hard back option is suitable for those for whom product design is more important than comfort and functionality (for example, it is very inconvenient to lean on a wrought-iron headboard and lay a pillow). Here you can experiment with the shape of the back, taking into account the interior and the concept of the bedroom. Suitable materials are wood, metal, plastic profiles.

As for the choice of headboard fabric, here it is worth paying attention to the following nuances:

  1. the back of the selected fabric should fit into the interior of the bedroom;
  2. it is desirable that the fabric is wear-resistant, and care for it does not bring inconvenience;
  3. when choosing textiles with large patterns (flowers, geometric shapes) in bright colors, it is recommended to limit the interior to only these prints, so as not to overload the appearance of the room.

Having considered the following styles of interiors of the premises, you can decide on the appearance of the headboard for the bed, which will harmoniously fit into the bedroom, create coziness and define the necessary accents:

How to make your own hard back?

If you decide to make the headboard yourself, then the first thing you need to decide on is the material from which the frame will be made, upholstery materials, appearance and rigidity. Hard headboards are made from wood, laminate, pre-fabricated wall panels, plastic, metal and even ceramic. If you choose a wooden headboard without facing materials, then the finished version of the product should be smooth, even, without cracks and natural indentations in the tree.

In order to avoid the difficulties of sanding untreated wood, choose a ready-made solid profile or parquet board.

To make a hard wood headboard you will need:

  • wooden base up to 20 mm thick;
  • fasteners (bolts, nuts, screws, hinges);
  • a sheet of sandpaper;
  • electric drill;
  • pencil on wood;
  • screwdriver;
  • hammer;
  • construction tape.

First you need to draw a sketch on the wooden profile of the future product with a simple pencil and mark the points where the fastener holes will be located.

It should be borne in mind that the width of the backrest must correspond to the dimensions of the bed.

After that, having carefully verified all the dimensions, cut the product along the contour, make holes (from two or more for each side).

Carefully sand all roughness with sandpaper. If desired, the blank of the product can be varnished. After the surface is completely dry, this structure is attached to the bed frame by means of self-tapping screws or bolts, or hung on hinges on the bedside wall.

How to make a soft headboard yourself?

Simple upholstery

Making a padded back is more hassle, but its rich appearance is worth the cost, physical and time.

To make such a headboard you need:

  • Chipboard profile or plywood, with a selected height;
  • upholstery fabric, the length and width of which will exceed the dimensions of plywood by about 20-30 cm for gripping with a stapler;
  • synthetic winterizer, foam rubber or batting (grip for fixing with a stapler must be taken into account in the same way as for upholstery fabric);
  • fasteners (bolts or screws);
  • furniture glue;
  • drill;
  • furniture stapler.

Draw a sketch on a sheet of plywood, mark holes for fasteners. If desired, draw up a curly edge. Carefully cut out the blank of the product.

The selected soft filler (synthetic winterizer, foam rubber or batting) is laid out on the surface of the headboard, adjusted to the dimensions of the product.

If a laminated synthetic winterizer is used, then its first layer is fixed with a furniture stapler from the back side, and the last layer of synthetic winterizer is sprinkled with glue.

After the glue dries, the sheathing is pulled on top (velor, tapestry, leather or eco-leather materials are most often used as sheathing materials). The selected fabric is evenly distributed over the surface of the workpiece without clamps and the edges of the padding polyester and the fabric from the seamy side are secured with clips of a furniture stapler. Using self-tapping screws or bolts, the product is attached to the bedside wall or to the frame of the bed itself.

Quilted in the "carriage tie" technique: master class

Lovers of the classics will love the quilted headboard with the use of the carriage tie technique. This technique was invented in France for the design of carriage saddles. Luxurious design of upholstered furniture in this technique is used to this day. And making recessed buttons in a lush space is a snap. The workpiece is cut as described above.

Holes are marked on the surface of the headboard frame, drilled and covered with a layer of foam rubber on top. In the appropriate places, holes are drawn on the foam rubber. Then, with the help of glue, the foam rubber is fixed on the surface of the headboard (in this case, you should pay attention that the holes on the foam rubber correspond to the holes on the product frame). A synthetic winterizer is placed on top of the foam rubber and upholstery textiles are pulled over it (capture 10-15 cm on the seamy side). Fix the fabric and synthetic winterizer with a stapler on the back of the product.

When choosing accessories - buttons in the color of the main product, they are pre-sheathed with the same fabric as the head of the bed. You can use multi-colored buttons and even glass buttons.

A tourniquet is pulled through the base of each button and tied in a knot. Each button is placed in the prepared hole on the front of the headboard.

Using a crochet hook or needle, thread the tourniquet into the hole, pull it and fix it on the back of the product. Thus, folds appear in the fabric in the area of the buttons. If desired, the back of the headboard can be covered with the same upholstery fabric to hide all seams and staples. With self-tapping screws or with the help of awnings, the headboard is also fixed on the wall or on the bed frame.

From pillows

The way to decorate the headboard with the help of decorative pillows will be very original and easy to implement. The backrest does not require a plywood profile. You don't need to drill or cut anything. And pillows can be found in everyone's house, or they are easy and not expensive to buy in a store.

The original pillow headboard will look no less cozy than velor or tapestry. Plus, they're so nice to lean on because they're soft and comfortable. Ease of installation allows you to quickly install such a headboard. It is enough just to attach a decorative curtain rod at a certain height above the bed and hang pillows with the help of hinges.

The pillow headboard also has the advantage that if you are tired of old covers, you can always replace them with more interesting ones.

We sew a cover

In order to sew a cover on the head of the bed, choose a suitable upholstery fabric. Previously, in order for the fabric to shrink, it is washed at a temperature of 30-40 degrees, dried and ironed.

Then a rectangle is cut out on the fabric according to the following formulas:

  • product length = A + 2h + 10 cm + 2 cm;
  • product width = B + 2h + 10 cm + 2 cm;
  • A is the length of the pillow;
  • B is the width of the pillow;
  • h - the thickness of the foam rubber (you can reduce the pattern to 0.5 cm, so that the cover fits snugly around the product);
  • 10 cm - grip on each side of the wrong side;
  • 2 cm - grip on the seams.

Measure 1 cm + 5 cm = 6 cm along each edge and draw a line. Cross out 4.5 cm, draw another line. Draw a diagonal through the corners of this rectangle so that its intersection is at equal intervals from the corners. After taking into account the allowance of 2 cm for the seams, cut along the contour. For each corner, repeat the same steps.
