Kitchen cabinet for do-it-yourself sink. How to choose or make with your own hands a comfortable kitchen sink cabinet

The sink is the most demanded element of kitchen furniture. A sink cabinet, like other kitchen items, is easy to make yourself. In order to make a beautiful and creative cabinet for a sink with your own hands, you need a little skill, the availability of the necessary materials and the necessary tools.

Preparatory stage

The sink cabinet is one of the simplest in its design, its manufacture will be available even to a novice master. Moreover, all such objects are similar in design to each other. The only exception is the internal content - the location of the shelves and so on.

From the materials you need to prepare:

  • two side walls;
  • two upper struts;
  • doors - one or two, depending on the design and width of the bedside table;
  • lower plinth;
  • wooden pins and furniture screws;
  • furniture hinges.

The most acceptable material that can be used for the production of a kitchen cabinet is chipboard or MDF, as well as boards for the baseboard and spacers. The following tools are required:

  • screwdriver;
  • drill;
  • hand-held circular saw for cutting chipboard and boards.

When making a sink with your own hands, its dimensions will depend on the dimensions of the sink, which is mounted in the cabinet, as well as the size of the room where this furniture will stand. You can make a wide bedside table in which the sink will be aligned with the countertop.

How to make a cabinet for a sink? The most common option is a cabinet with a width of 400 to 800 mm. Double models can be up to 1.2 meters wide, if the dimensions of the kitchen allow. The standard dimensions of the sidewalls remain the same regardless of the width and are 530x814 mm, where 814 mm is the height and 530 mm is the bottom depth.

The width of the bottom is formed on the basis that the dimensions of the thickness of the chipboard, from which the sidewalls are planned to be made, will be deducted from the total width of the cabinet. For example, if the total width is 800 mm, as in the figure below, then the width of the bottom, assuming that the chipboard is 14 mm thick, will be calculated as follows: 800-14-14 = 772 mm. The spacers and bottom plinth are the same length as the bottom. The width of the doors is selected based on the width of the cabinet, but the height is a constant value. The width of the doors will have to be calculated very accurately and accurately. If a mistake is made in the calculations, the doors will either not close, or an ugly wide gap will appear between them.

Below are the drawings of the main parts:

Door calculation

The width of the bottom plinth, according to the drawing, is 80 mm. If we subtract 80 mm from the total height (814 mm), we get 734 mm. From this figure, subtract the thickness of the countertop for the sink (25 mm) together with the edge thickness multiplied by 2. If we take this dimension equal to 2 mm, we get 734-25-2-2 = 705 mm.

  • if the total width is 800 mm, divide it in half and get 400 mm;
  • from this size, the width of the ends on both sides is subtracted, equal to approximately 2 mm, - it turns out 396 mm;
  • also, the gaps between the doors, 2 mm each, and between them and neighboring furniture, also 2 mm each, are subtracted - as a result, we have a width of 396-2-2 = 392 mm. In order not to miss exactly, you can subtract another 2 mm, as a result we get the width of each door 390 mm.

Assembly

So, in general terms, it is known how a do-it-yourself kitchen sink cabinet is calculated. This stage, along with the cutting of chipboard and boards, is the most critical. It is advisable to do the cutting not at home, but in a workshop with the appropriate equipment. But it is better to collect at home from prepared parts.

Before assembling the bedside table, it is advisable to grease the ends and places where the chipboard will join with silicone using a special pistol. This will prevent moisture from degrading the material, which will inevitably come out of the sink. Do-it-yourself sink cabinet is assembled in the following sequence:

  1. The bottom of the bedside table is connected to its sidewalls. The bottom is located above the upper edge of the skirting board, the width of which, according to the drawing, is 80 mm. The bottom and side walls should be strictly at an angle of 90 degrees relative to each other. After joining, two holes for furniture screws are drilled through the sidewalls into the bottom end. They need to be drilled at a distance of at least 5 cm from the edge of the boards.
  2. In the same way, a strip, which is a lower plinth, is attached to the structure with self-tapping screws.
  3. Next, two spacers are installed. One - on the facade, under the very top, flush with the upper ends of the sidewalls. The second is behind, about 20 cm lower. Also screwed on with self-tapping screws.
  4. The facades of the doors are milled for the hinges. For this, a special pen drill or cutter with a diameter of 35 mm is used. The recesses are drilled at a distance of 2.5 cm from the end of the door and at a distance of 10 cm from the top and bottom. The cutter deepens so that the loop fits freely there, but you cannot overdo it. Next, 2 hinges are screwed on each door.
  5. In conclusion, the counterparts of the hinges are screwed to the sidewalls. It remains only to insert the sink into the assembled cabinet of the bedside table.

How to install a sink

This stage of work is performed relatively uncomplicated. The metal sink is inserted into the case from above, but it must be fixed, otherwise the required rigidity will not work. If this is not done, the curbstone will fall apart sooner or later (see video).

There are two methods for attaching the metal shell to the body.

  • All the same silicone is used, and two tasks are immediately solved - sealing the upper part of the case at the junction with the sink, the whole structure is stiffened. For this, silicone is applied along the entire perimeter to the upper end of the body. Then a sink is put on top. Assembled in this way, the case can be immediately installed, connected to the drain and used.
  • Self-tapping screws are used to fasten the sink - this option is more reliable. Please note: in any of both methods, silicone is applied to the upper end of the cabinet - primarily for sealing, and not just for securing it.

Below are the dimensions of the sink for which the building was built. It will fit into the structure without any problems. There are options for the location of the sink both to the right and to the left, when viewed from the side of the facade.

As a result, the made piece of furniture will look something like this:

Other manufacturing options

A bedside table with a sink has many versions and is installed in different places in the kitchen or bathroom, depending on the layout and area of the premises. One of the options is a wide bedside table, in the upper tabletop of which you need to make a cutout for installing a sink (see the picture below).

You can make a corner sink - this approach saves space, the design fits organically into the interior. It turns out to be a little more complicated, but the basic assembly principles remain the same. There are also various options for mounting shelves in the inner space of the cabinet. For the decoration of facades and sidewalls, various methods are used, such as lamination with paper-resin films, pasting with polymer films, painting with waterproof paints and others. Choose your option that suits your interior and kitchen size.

One of the important characteristics of any interior is the organization of storage. Any hostess will confirm that this issue is especially acute in the kitchen or bathroom. In order to use every centimeter of space under sinks and sinks, cabinets are installed, which create additional space for storing various household goods, and also allow you to close communications, making the interior more harmonious and comfortable.

Preparatory stage

In order for the work to go like clockwork, it is necessary to prepare all the tools in advance, decide on the materials, and take measurements. This effort can be half the battle if you don't ignore the preparation phase.

Choosing a material

The optimal material for such a product is different for everyone. Consider the features of the most popular:

  • Wood is a classic, durable and very “cozy” material, quite heavy and massive, which should be taken into account when making hanging models. Must have a moisture resistant coating. Quite an expensive option.

  • Drywall is a common and inexpensive material that is easy to work with, and waterproof sheets are available commercially. However, quite fragile, for mortise shells, reinforcement of the frame will be required.

  • MDF - its advantages are moisture resistance and strength, which is reflected in the cost - not the cheapest option.

  • Plastic is an excellent option for the bathroom, it is not afraid of water, however, it requires reinforcement of the structure, since it bends easily.

  • Glass is a tricky material and should be chosen if you are confident you can handle it. Alternatively, individual structural elements (internal shelves or doors) can be made of glass, which will look great, for example, in combination with natural wood.

IMPORTANT!

If the curbstone is one of your first jobs, we advise you to choose a simpler and cheaper material option: drywall or MDF.

We carry out measurements

The dimensions of the cabinet directly depend on the size of the sink to be installed, as well as on the availability of free space in this area of the room. The countertop can be exactly the size of the sink, or it can be much larger, depending on the availability of free space around the sink.

The height usually varies between 70-100 cm.

Required materials and tools

The list of required tools will largely depend on the material chosen, but you you will definitely need:

  • screws;
  • screwdriver;
  • drill;
  • screwdriver;
  • hacksaw or jigsaw;
  • hammer;
  • pliers.

In addition to parts made from the main material, you will also need accessories - hinges, handles, as well as brushes, varnish and paint, if you need to further improve the aesthetic properties of the cabinet.

Auxiliary elements such as a pencil, tape measure.

Do-it-yourself kitchen sink cabinet: a step-by-step guide

The finished furniture does not always fit in size due to the characteristics of the room, making custom-made furniture takes a lot of time and is not cheap at all, but there is a way out - to make the cabinet yourself.

It is not so difficult to create a cabinet for a sink with your own hands if you have minimal skills in working with tools and the selected material.

Step 1. We cut out blanks from the selected material in accordance with individual dimensions. You will need the following details:

  • side walls (2 pcs.);
  • doors (1 or 2 depending on the design);
  • lower plinth.

Step 2. We fasten the bottom and side walls to each other with screws. The bottom should be located above the upper edge of the skirting board.

Step 3. We fix the lower plinth.

Step 4. We install two spacers - one on the front part from above, flush with the side walls, the other on the back part, 20 cm below the top.

Step 5. We prepare the holes for fastening the hinges, on which the doors will be hung, and fasten the hinges.

Step 6. We hang the doors on the hinges, insert the sink into the assembled cabinet of the bedside table. Ready!

Now you can safely place various items under the sink, because there is now enough space there.

How to make a bedside table for a sink yourself?

When transforming your kitchen, you should definitely think about installing a cabinet under the sink. It will make the interior more stylish. In addition, it will become a useful element, because the bedside table can be used to store soap detergents or other things. At the same time, it is absolutely not necessary to purchase such a product in a store and give a substantial amount of money for it. The curbstone can be made by hand. Your attention is invited to step-by-step instructions that will allow you to avoid mistakes in the course of such a responsible work.

What is required to make a curbstone?

Before you start making a cabinet for a sink, you should prepare the following materials and tools:

  • glass from 6 mm thick;
  • door hinges;
  • furniture corners;
  • self-tapping screws;
  • putty;
  • primer;
  • Double-sided tape.
  • electric jigsaw or hacksaw;
  • screwdrivers;
  • hexagon;
  • sandpaper;
  • brush with soft bristles;
  • putty knife;
  • pencil;
  • glass cutter;
  • drill;
  • some sand;
  • ruler and tape measure;
  • small grinding wheel;
  • gloves to protect hands while working with glass.

Step 1: Carrying out preparatory work

First of all, you need to decide on the size of the sink cabinet. Here you need to be guided by the parameters of the sink itself and the height at which it is installed, as well as the dimensions of the kitchen.

On the basis of them, be sure to draw a sketch, and indicate in it exactly which parts the curbstone will consist of. Be sure to indicate in it what dimensions the sink has and at what height it is installed.

Then you need to take a chipboard and mark it with a pencil. Then you can start cutting out the parts and assembling them. First, the walls and bottom are connected using self-tapping screws. In this case, it is important that the heads of the fasteners do not protrude, therefore, when screwing in, they will need to be “sunk” into the chipboard. Then you need to put the assembled structure against the wall and make sure that it stands level and does not stagger. Since, due to the presence of a siphon at the sink, it will be impossible to make the back wall, furniture corners should be used to increase the rigidity of the cabinet. They need to be fastened under the countertop with short self-tapping screws.

Step 2: processing the cabinet

After making sure that the created structure is suitable in size and is stable, and the sink fits into it perfectly, you can proceed to puttying. It is necessary to make the surface of the cabinet smooth. Therefore, using a spatula, putty should be applied to the chipboard parts and immediately carefully leveled. After that, you will need to leave it to dry, and then you should definitely sand it with sandpaper.

Furniture made of natural wood or moisture-resistant chipboard and MDF panels are used as cabinets for corner sinks.

Then you will need to prime the entire surface of the cabinet. It is necessary to make this layer thin. You will need to wait until it is completely dry. Then you can start painting work. A tint varnish is perfect here. It should be applied with a natural bristle brush. Cover the curbstone with it in several layers.

Now it remains to wait until the product is completely dry and you can safely install it under the sink. The last thing left to do is create the door. It must be made of glass. Then the finished cabinet, made by hand, will have high aesthetic characteristics.

First, you need to mark the glass, and then give it the required shape. Next, you need to make the door matte. For this, sand is taken, poured onto the cut out part and slightly moistened. Then another glass is placed on top and rubbed with it. In the course of this work, you will need to add a little sand. This will need to be done until the door becomes matte. You can speed up the process by using the special grinding attachment. In this case, you will need to pour sand on the glass part, and then start grouting at low speeds.

After that, you can fasten the finished door and adjust it. This completes the creation of a bedside table with your own hands.

Another way to make a curbstone

Cabinets made of chipboard and glass are not always suitable for sinks, especially if they are created for installation in country houses. Here, the ideal option would be to make a product from boards and slats. It will have excellent aesthetic properties and will harmoniously fit into the interior of the kitchen. To make such a do-it-yourself sink cabinet, you will need the following:

  • screws;
  • impregnation for wood;
  • loops;
  • manual frezer;
  • hacksaw;
  • drill;
  • screwdriver;
  • hammer;
  • bristled brush;
  • jigsaw;
  • boards;
  • roulette;
  • marker;
  • reiki.

First, you will need to decide on the width and height of the cabinet walls. In order to take correct measurements, use a tape measure. Next, the dimensions of the door are determined, the parts are marked and cut out.

Now you need to lay out the boards for the 1st side wall with your own hands on a flat surface, and then connect them with slats using screws for this. After that, a similar process is carried out with the 2nd side wall. Next, the door is assembled, which is also mounted using rails and screws. For her, you will need to additionally make a handle made of wood. It is fastened with screws from the outside, after which all the parts are assembled into a single structure.

In order for a hand-made cabinet to be convenient, several shelves should be provided in it. They can be made wide. They can be installed on special spacers that are cut out of wood, and then fixed to the inner walls of the cabinet with screws.

In order for the product under the sink to have an attractive appearance and serve for a long time, it must be painted. But before that, it will need to be treated with a special impregnation. Then you can varnish it. Apply it in several layers. Let the structure dry, then it can be used as directed.

Today we have prepared an article on the topic: "How to make the underframe for a sink in the kitchen with your own hands", and Anatoly Belyakov will tell you the nuances and comment on the main mistakes.

  • Underframe for a sink in the kitchen: equipping a workplace

    When arranging furniture in the kitchen, you should definitely think about what the cabinet will be under the sink. This piece of kitchen set is called underframe. Such a bedside table does not have a back wall; a kitchen sink is installed directly into it.

    It is almost impossible to do without this item. After all, otherwise, there will be simply nowhere to wash the dishes. In the cabinet itself, you can hide cleaning products, a trash can and other kitchen utensils from prying eyes. Regardless of whether you are going to purchase the underframe separately or together with a kitchen set, you need to learn to understand the features of the materials, sizes and functions of the cabinet from the kitchen sink.

    The dimensions of the sink units in the kitchen are selected individually, depending on the size of the kitchen. Alternatively, the size of the underframe will be based on the size of the sink itself in the kitchen. In the latter case, it can serve not only as a place for washing kitchen utensils, but also as a countertop. Then the main condition is that it is level with the rest of the headset.

    Typically, kitchen countertops are standard sizes. They can be 50 cm, 60 cm, 80 cm and 120 cm wide. If the base is small, you need to choose a sink with one bowl and small sides. Small cabinets usually have hinged doors. Larger undercases can accommodate double sinks or a sink with a dish drying rack.

    If the underframe is equipped with cold and hot water supply and drain inside, then it goes without internal filling.

    The two most common materials from which sinks are made are:

    Both materials are made in identical ways using dry production from wood fibers, which are processed in a special way. The difference between them is that MDF is a material made using advanced fiberboard technology. It has a composition closer to wood, which means it will cost a little more.

    All materials used for the manufacture of sinks are moisture resistant. Bedside tables made of chipboard are quite durable, they are durable and withstand scratches and bumps. However, the material can swell and dry out at the joints between the countertop and the sink. To avoid this, manufacturers specially glue it with a special sheet of plastic. Sometimes solid underframes are made of stainless steel. But the metal vanity units have an unassuming look. They are rarely preferred by anyone.

    Flush sinks are used for solid kitchen worktops. The underframe with a mortise sink will look harmonious... If you do everything according to the rules, you can once and for all avoid swelling and leaks at the joints between the underframe and the sink. Such sinks for the kitchen literally "cut" into the underframe. To do this, a hole is cut out on the countertop for the future sink, which is previously circled and a template is made. The table top will be sawn on it. After that, a sealant is applied along the edges of the hole under the sink. With the help of clamps, even the corner sink is firmly attached to the worktop. The advantages of inset sinks are often attributed to their hygiene and ease of installation.

    Stainless steel sinks can be used as inset sinks, but you will have to tinker with granite sinks.

    The underframe option with an overhead sink is a bit outdated. But he still does not lose his popularity.... The stainless steel sink is stacked on the underframe to form a worktop. It is suitable for freestanding undercounters that may not belong to the kitchen unit itself. The overhead sink on the underframe is fixed with special L-shaped fasteners.

    To protect the surface of the cabinet from moisture and cracking, a silicone sealant is applied to the wide edge of the sink.

    It is believed that an underframe with an overhead sink is a budget option for arranging space in the kitchen. The right solution is an underframe with a flush-mounted sink. But curbstones with overhead sinks have many undeniable advantages. They are roomy and perfectly complement the kitchen design. It is easier to assemble it with your own hands. Even beginners have no difficulty with this. The overhead sink can be removed from the underframe for various plumbing and repair work. Underframe with overhead sink is several times cheaper than underframe with inset sink.

    Sink cabinet all advantages:

    The optimal option for the depth of the underframe is 40 centimeters... In the event that you plan to place wall cabinets above the sink, then the depth of the underframe should increase to 55-60 centimeters. All corner underframes are of standard sizes:
    • Door: 0.5cm, 0.45cm, 0.4cm, 0.35cm, 0.3cm.
    • Module: 1m, 0.95cm, 0.9cm, 0.85cm, 0.8cm, 0.75cm, 0.7cm, 0.65cm.
  • The angular layout of the headset is considered one of the best and most optimal - it looks great in both large and small kitchens. There remains only one question: which corner cabinet to choose for the sink, because the most logical and convenient place for it with such a layout is indeed in the corner.

    Functionality

    The modern design trend is a combination of beauty and functionality. It is these requirements that the corner pedestal with. The L-shaped layout makes the space more comfortable and optimized, even in a small, non-standard or combined kitchen.

    We list the main positive features of a corner cabinet with a sink:

    • it is easy to carry out and hide the necessary communications there, for example, the liner to the sink, filters, heaters. In addition, the space can serve as an excellent place to store household chemicals or a trash can;
    • such a solution is the most compact, but at the same time spacious - this is very important on, for example, in a Khrushchev;
    • the corner section visually unites the space;
    • it just looks nice.

    But there are also downsides. For example, in inexpensive kitchen sets with a corner sink, the countertop is made of chipboard, which means that the joints in the corner will be in danger:

    • Chipboard is a very weak material that is constantly looking for a reason to swell;
    • the spray from the shell will fly anyway.

    Therefore, the joints will have to be additionally protected, for example, with a sealant or aluminum strips. If the table top is cast, for example, made of stone or acrylic, then this problem will not occur.

    The second disadvantage is that only a small container for garbage can be "hidden" in such a cabinet. But, perhaps, it is for the better - the garbage will be taken out more often, which means that there is less chance of an unpleasant smell.

    The third negative point is that the reliability of corner structures is much lower than that of conventional ones. This is due to the non-standard shape of the cabinets. Perhaps you should think about strengthening the sidewalls.

    The fourth disadvantage is the inconvenience of using the sink, because it is located too far away. This drawback is easy to avoid: the main thing is to monitor the height and depth of the tabletop.

    And the last negative point is the overpriced compared to conventional wardrobes, so most craftsmen assemble such cabinets with their own hands.

    Construction types

    Three types of corner pedestals can be distinguished according to the type of construction:

    • straight attachment;
    • L-shaped;
    • trapezoidal.

    Each has its own characteristics, which we will now reveal.

    Straight pedestal

    An ordinary base cabinet, which has one muted door - a bezel. This option is the most budgetary, therefore, the most common. But it is not very convenient to use it - there is a lot of free space, but it is difficult to reach it.

    The standard dimensions of such a cabinet for a sink are 100 by 60 cm along the table top. At the same time, the module itself will be slightly smaller - 95 by 55 cm. This is due to the fact that the tabletop should hang a little in front, on the side and even sometimes in the back.

    With such a layout, the size of the facade is 71.6 by 39.6 cm. Do not forget about the internal component - on the inner side of the cabinet they make a drink for the sink, or rather, its communications.

    In this case, the dimensions are individual, but most often this hole is about 25 by 15 cm. If the pipes require a larger hole size, then it is better to make the side side not solid, but assemble it from strips.

    L-shaped pedestal (acute angle)

    Here the curbstone is equipped with a special transforming door, thanks to which it is very convenient to use the interior space. Moreover, in terms of measurement, it is the most flexible option.

    In this case, one or two back sides of the cabinet are left hollow - this depends on the number of connections and wiring. The dimensions of a standard cabinet are 92 by 92 cm. In addition, two doors with sides 71.6 by 39.6 cm are required.

    Modules like these are easy to customize by simply cutting off one side. It should be remembered that a wide door is always hung to the sidewall, and a light one - to it (the first door). If you do otherwise, the facade will sag over time.

    Trapezoidal cabinet (with beveled corner)

    The most large-scale and bulky version of the corner kitchen table under the sink. It is advisable not to install it in small rooms, as it takes up too much usable area. For this reason, they are only appropriate in spacious rooms with a classic design. The options listed above look better in modern kitchens.

    If the trapezium cabinet seems too rough and large, then you can choose a concave design of the sash and countertop, but this will not solve the problem of bulkiness. It is in this version that the problem of a small door and a huge free space inside is very acute. The dimensions of the module are 90 by 90 cm, while the door is 71.6 by 47 cm.

    Another disadvantage of such a cabinet is that an ordinary 60 cm countertop does not cover the entire surface, so it has to be joined, and this threatens to get water from the sink into the seams and swell the material. Such a joint is made either at the level of the sink, or with the help of a small support superstructure.

    Of course, if you use a different material, for example, artificial stone or plastic, then this problem can be avoided. But the cost will be completely different. Manufacturers are trying to solve this problem by releasing special pentagonal countertops, but so far their choice is very limited.

    Sizing calculation

    To choose a vanity unit under the sink, several factors must be taken into account, including:

    • kitchen features - its area and layout;
    • sink features - shape, size and even installation method;
    • what will be stored inside, and how often you need to get in there.

    The standard sizes for each type of cabinet have been described above, but you can individually create anything you want. Today, designers are trying to deviate from standards and create individual solutions, since they are the most comfortable and optimized.

    For example, for a long time, the standard tabletop height was considered to be 85 cm, and the adjustment was a maximum of a couple of centimeters in order to adjust the headset to uneven floors.

    Now, you can adjust the height by 10 cm or even more, so that your stay in the kitchen is as comfortable as possible. There is even a small but visual drawing telling what height a kitchen set with a sink in the corner is suitable for.

    The standard width of the door (not the transformer) of the corner bedside table is 40 cm. You can make it 30 cm, but this will significantly reduce access to space and stored products. Is it worth it?

    Of course, you cannot pick up a flush sink larger than a countertop. You have to keep track of both the length and the depth of the product. Most kitchen sinks are designed to cut into a 60 cm deep worktop, while the sink itself only takes up 48-50 cm of this space, since it is necessary to provide for gaps.

    Storage system

    It is very important to think over storage in a corner cabinet, since it is not always possible to reach the most hidden corners, but you really want to put as much as possible there. For this, manufacturers are developing more and more interesting ideas, for example:

    • swivel baskets and carousels- suitable for storing small items and large dishes, they are as functional as possible;
    • drawers- in corner cabinets, they are made U-shaped so as not to damage communications. Useful for storing small items and textiles;
    • various shelves and holders- conveniently divide the space into several zones. For example, household chemicals - separately, but - separately.

    But at the same time, do not forget that it is necessary to place the wiring to the sink, possibly the communication of the filter and the grinder. Even the location of the bin is worth considering.

    What can you store under the sink besides the trash can?

    1. Various items such as potatoes, pet food, or large pots with trays.
    2. If, then the place under the sink will be an excellent warehouse for powders, air conditioners and other household chemicals. In this case, you can take a closer look at IKEA storage systems - they allow you to put a large number of things as compactly as possible.
    3. Technique - vacuum cleaner, iron.
    4. You can also hide more complex things - waste shredder, filters, water heater. So such systems will be optimized as much as possible, and also easily accessible for replacement or repair.

    If you want to simplify your life as much as possible, you can think about. Mesh baskets that can be rolled out by pulling the handle are extremely popular. The reason is simple - it is very convenient, because you no longer have to climb inside the cabinet, dropping all other things.

    The space under the sink can be left free or appliances can be built in there. For example, a small or washing machine. The first option is not entirely practical, since it will be inconvenient to rinse the dishes and then immediately put them in the machine, but if, you can consider this option as well.

    Sink selection

    It is worth starting with the installation option.

    Consignment noteThe simplest, but at the same time rarely found option for an angular arrangement. Such a sink takes up all the space above the cabinet, so a tabletop is not required.
    MortiseThe most popular option. A hole is cut in the countertop into which the sink is inserted. It is held by the sides that lie on the table top, as well as with the help of special fasteners. A wide variety of these sinks allows you to choose the perfect model for any interior.
    IntegratedAs such, there is no sink, since it is a recess in the countertop. A rare but very effective option.
    Under tableThe most difficult option - the sink is installed under the countertop. Installation is so complicated that a professional is needed, since everything is required to be calculated literally down to a millimeter. In addition, such a sink is expensive.

    After choosing the type of sink installation, it is better to decide on its shape. There are three options:

    • round- standard version with a diameter of 50 or 60 centimeters. Spacious, comfortable, no need to clean the corners;
    • straight (rectangular or square)- the standard size of corner sinks is 60 x 80 cm, but there are others. Bulky, useful for a large family;
    • non-standard form- are often used as corner sinks, as the irregular shape allows optimal use of space.

    Equipping a kitchen sink is also worth considering. The classic is the sink, which is a single thicket.

    If space permits, then you can choose a multi-section product - with two or even three bowls. This is a very practical solution, because while the dishes are being washed in one bowl, you can defrost or soak something in the other.

    For such a purpose, fenders will fit - corrugated side surfaces made of the same material as the sink. Most often, they are also used for defrosting food or drying dishes.

    Last, but not least, the choice will be the material of the sink. There are many of them, but most often they are used:

    1. - budgetary, but very practical material that is not afraid of household chemicals, temperature changes. But there is also a drawback - noise when water falls.
    2. - a spectacular option that does not create noise, at the same time, it is as practical as a stainless steel.

    You can find sinks made of natural stone, ceramics, porcelain and even wood, but all these options are expensive and not at all practical.

    The nuances of choosing a curbstone

    If you still have doubts about what to choose, you should figure out what is expected from the furniture:

    • if you need a lot of storage space - this is to the trapezium cabinets;
    • doors can be made hinged and even reclining;
    • if you need free access to the far corners, then this is definitely not about a single door;
    • if you need to hide the water heater in a cabinet, then small swivel shelves are suitable for storage;
    • if there is a trash bin, then it is worth picking up a model with a lid or a retractable one;
    • if there are no shelves, then it is better to buy baskets or take a closer look at the drawers;
    • the shape of the sink and the cabinet as a whole should be combined with the kitchen.

    DIY making

    Making a corner cabinet is no more difficult than usual. Even the materials used are the same:

    • laminated plates are suitable for the case. At the same time, do not forget about the special PVC edge, which will cover all the ends - this will save the corner module from moisture and further swelling;
    • as a door, you can take the same chipboard, MDF, or take a closer look at the solid wood and acrylic;
    • the table top can be made of various materials - chipboard with foil or veneer, artificial stone or postforming. Natural stone may be too heavy for such a base;
    • in the corner, mortise sinks are most often installed. They can be made of artificial stone or stainless steel.

    Let's consider the characteristics of some materials.

    ChipboardFor the manufacture of laminated particle board, wood waste, glue and plastic film are used. Such material is not always environmentally friendly, therefore, most often they refuse to use it in the kitchen in favor of MDF.
    MDFThis material is already more expensive, but also of better quality. Wood chips are used, which are pressed under vacuum. The board can again be coated with plastic, post-formed, veneer or regular paint.
    ArrayThe most sustainable material. But practicality is highly dependent on the quality of the cut, processing, drying and fit. It is treated with varnish in order to protect it from moisture and temperature extremes.
    A rockBoth natural and artificial stone are considered durable materials that are not afraid of changes in temperature, humidity and even mechanical stress. But the artificial analog has two advantages - easier care and lighter weight. In any case, these are not budget options.

    Then you need to decide on the following characteristics:

    • storage system and overall dimensions;
    • type of washing;
    • the number of shelves required and the door closing mechanism.

    It is better to take care of this before assembly, since in this case it is possible to paste over everything with an edge, avoiding swelling of the material. If there is no edge left, then the ends can be treated with silicone or sealant. Do the same with the sink cutout.

    To assemble a corner cabinet, it is better to use euro screws, or confirmations. Dimensions of self-tapping screws:

    • 4x20 - for legs;
    • 3.5x16 - for furniture hinges.

    Making a corner cabinet for a sink yourself is not so difficult, but this process requires attention and concentration.

    DIY installation

    It doesn't matter if the cabinet is made by hand or brought from the store, it is not difficult to assemble it yourself. Moreover, if this is a purchase from a store - in this case, the kit must contain detailed assembly instructions. If it was not there, then the principle of action is always the same:

    Installing a corner sink is no different from a conventional one. The simplest option is an overhead model, it is put on a curbstone with a difficult cap on the handle. The most difficult option is under-table - it is better to entrust it to a professional right away.

    The integrated model does not require installation, since it is combined with the tabletop. And the flush sink can be installed with your own hands. This requires:

    • make markings on the countertop under the sink - usually for this, a special stencil is put in the set to the sink;
    • a hole is cut out according to the marking;
    • ends are lubricated with sealant;
    • the sink is inserted into the hole;
    • mounts are installed (if any);
    • , there is a connection to the sewer;
    • the junction of the sides of the sink and the countertop can also be coated with sealant.

    As you can see, there is nothing difficult in this - even a beginner can cope on his own.

    Conclusion

    A corner cabinet is an excellent choice not only for a small kitchen, but also for a large space that you want to make as functional as possible. It should be understood that the choice of a curbstone depends on the tasks that it will perform, as well as on the sink that will be built in. If you approach the choice from all sides, the result will be a new piece of furniture that fits perfectly into the interior.
