How much chaga is stored after collection. Proper storage and handling of chaga before use

Greetings, dear reader! Thank you for your interest in my diary ...

The name of a natural product in science is considered as mowed tinder fungus, but it is better known among the people as "chaga" and "kosotrubny tinder fungus". The benefits and harms of the birch chaga mushroom have been known to people for a long time, and it has found worthy use among the people since the 16th century in getting rid of many ailments.

Numerous reviews are unanimous about the beneficial properties of chaga for human health, and first of all, its effectiveness in treating cancer is highlighted.

Of course, it is not worth arguing that the birch mushroom is the only cure for cancer, but it alleviates suffering and often stops the development of the disease at the initial stage.

However, the greatest wealth of trace elements, minerals and vitamins is present in this gift of the forest, growing as high as possible from the earth.

Chaga - description

Currently, most people do not know where this useful product of nature grows and what its appearance is, but in the forest it is found quite often on trees that have existed for more than two decades.

A close examination of old birches on their trunks can be seen extensive shapeless hard and dense growths weighing up to five kilograms, the size of which can reach half a meter in length.

Along with living ones, it can infect, but relatively rarely, also dry trees and grow up to 40 cm wide with a thickness of about 15 cm with a life span of over 20 years.

In appearance, the birch mushroom is a lumpy cap with small rounded pores and a dark crust, which is cut by numerous shallow grooves.

The body of the stubby tinder fungus is also dark in color, but at the base it is lighter with small yellow veins and consists of tubes, which are clearly visible when viewed from an angle. The thin upper film of the cap is formed by a great many spores (hymen), which is fleshy to the touch, but becomes hard with age.

The flesh is bitter, odorless, reddish-brown in color, is located in the middle part of the birch mushroom and includes a soft porous mass on the outside, woody and hard - on the inside, in which the bulk of useful microelements is concentrated.

As such, the leg of chaga is not visible, and it has a dark outer layer, a brown middle part and a reddish inner layer that comes into contact with the wood fibers. After separation from the tree, the young mushroom has a whitish tone, and the old one is dark brown.

Spores of birch chaga approach the trunk of only a matured tree through damage to the bark that occurs in the places of broken branches, as well as under the influence of sunburn, insects, frost and other physical factors.

The mycelium of spores develops over 4 years, after which specific dark growths appear on the surface of the tree, which begin to grow and accumulate useful substances, depriving the tree of food, which ultimately dies.

The most common clones of chaga, which also grow on birch, are often mistaken by ignorant people for the following product with medicinal properties: true tinder fungus, edged tinder fungus, false tinder fungus and birch sponge.

They settle, for the most part, on dead trees, and the first two types have a convex shape without cracks on top and look like hooves. There are no useful substances in their composition, and they do not have medicinal properties, but they are able to bring tangible harm to the human body.

Therefore, so that a trip to the forest for birch chaga is not in vain, it is recommended to carefully and thoroughly familiarize yourself with all the information about the product and take a closer look at its images.

Then you can confidently count on fresh birch chaga, which is more beneficial than powders and tinctures available in the retail network.

Chaga collection

Kosotrubny tinder fungus grows mainly in birch plantations and can be found in any season of the year. After the tree is infected with spores, birch chaga appears after 3 - 4 years, when its growths acquire a dense shape and are ready for use. Since that time, if you cut a birch mushroom, then three zones are clearly visible:

  • outer - dark, hard, indented with cracks;
  • the middle one is of a brown shade, which is distinguished by a grainy character;
  • the inner one is lighter and loose.

Birch mushroom harvesting is carried out all year round, but in the summer season it is difficult to see it, since it is often covered with foliage, so it is better to collect chaga when there are no leaves on the birch trees.

In early spring, the birch mushroom enters a stage of unprecedented biological activity, because due to the rapid movement of the juice, it intensively absorbs a rich part of the necessary substances for the human body and brings more benefits.

For harvesting chaga, the strongest trees are selected and preferably in the depths of the forest, but it is highly discouraged to search for and collect it, like any mushrooms, near highways with heavy traffic.

It should also be borne in mind that birch chaga outgrowths in the lower part of the trunk have weakened healing properties and old ones, which are distinguished by a black tone, are large in size and begin to crumble.

The upper part of the body of the stubby tinder fungus and the firm middle are considered useful raw materials for the workpiece. During the collection process, birch chaga is cut with an ax in the immediate vicinity of the tree trunk and the remains of wood, bark and a loose mass of light tone, which is unsuitable for use, are separated from it.

The collected birch chaga is then cut into small pieces no larger than 10 cm and dried at a temperature no higher than 60 degrees.

In the summer season, drying of birch mushrooms is usually carried out outdoors under a canopy, well-ventilated and without access to direct sunlight. Finished raw materials must contain at least 20% of extractives at 10-12% humidity and be stored in tightly closed containers that exclude the penetration of moisture, from which it becomes moldy.

The shelf life of harvested birch chaga is approximately two years, but the peak of its effectiveness decreases after three months of storage.

In addition, it should be noted that the birch mushroom is ground into powder only before direct use, and chaga collected from dried or unhealthy trees has no benefit, but can even harm health.

Birch chaga: medicinal properties

Since ancient times, folk healers have used the birch mushroom as a medicine for various ailments. Its anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial effects on the body simply fascinated people, and to this day it is used as a general tonic.

So, in Siberia, since the 11th century, birch chaga has been used as a medicine for the treatment of many diseases of the gastrointestinal tract. Later, organic acids and biogenic stimulants were actually discovered in it, which have therapeutic effects.

At the end of the 20th century, studies made it clear that a considerable proportion of manganese and tannins contained in chaga increase immunity and brain activity, normalize blood pressure, lowering sugar, which is essential for diabetic patients.

In the same period, on the soil of a birch mushroom, a therapeutic agent "Befungin" was developed, which found application in getting rid of stomach ulcers, chronic gastritis and oncological diseases.

So, in his response back in tsarist times, the former patient Kostoglotov spoke positively about the medicinal properties of chaga, referring to the old zemstvo doctor Maslennikov from the Aleksandrovsky district near Moscow.

In the course of research over the course of decades, Dr. Maslennikov noticed that his ward peasants do not have a tendency to get cancer, when medical sources mention him all the time.

Such a detail did not slip past his field of vision, how the men in that region, because of saving money for tea, brewed a birch mushroom instead.

The main medicinal properties of the mown tinder fungus include:

  1. It acts on any tumors, supplies the vitamins necessary for the body and improves immunity.
  2. It is able to reduce the proportion of cholesterol, remove acute pain and increase appetite.
  3. Hemostatic and anti-inflammatory properties protect the mucous membrane.
  4. Due to the presence of silver and zinc, the nervous system is normalized.
  5. Ultimately, it contributes to the stimulation and strengthening of health, replenishing the body with vital useful and essential substances.

However, along with the medicinal properties and prevention of oncological diseases, birch chaga, like any other product, has contraindications.

Typical cases where its use is not recommended or completely excluded include:

  • kidney and vascular disease, when there is fluid retention inside;
  • puffiness and late pregnancy of women, since such a situation with puffiness often arises;
  • ailments associated with chronic dysentery and colitis;
  • taking antibiotics or internal administration of glucose neutralizes the healing properties of chaga;
  • beware of admission in childhood or rejection by the body (allergies).

With prolonged use or excessive doses of drugs from a birch mushroom, side effects are possible, for example, such as the occurrence of diarrhea, dizziness, hyperexcitability, an allergic reaction to the drug, etc. Therefore, in any case, before using drugs that include stubby tinder fungus, the doctor's advice will not hurt ...

Careful observance of the rules for harvesting a birch mushroom guarantees the exclusion of its toxicity and then it does not cause harm. The use of birch chaga in the treatment of ailments is carried out in two types of therapeutic courses:

  • short, several visits a year with a long break;
  • long, lasting 3-5 months with an interval from a week to half a month.

The first method is designed, as a rule, to consolidate the results of using the beveled tinder fungus, as well as to prevent the body. Its effectiveness occurs after a long time, and according to the second method, the therapeutic effect is manifested in a short time.

During the entire period of taking stump tinder fungus, a diet focused mainly on dairy ingredients of the diet, plant foods and a healthy diet will not interfere.

At this time, the consumption of smoked meats, sausages, meat, fats, canned foods with spicy seasonings and spices should be limited, and it is better to exclude from the menu altogether.

The use of chaga has a strong effect on the body. According to reviews, its taste is poor, but it has a beneficial effect on seriously ill patients. Their pain subsides and their well-being noticeably improves, but before starting self-medication, you need to get the support of a doctor.

The birch mushroom is used in the form of infusions, infusions, creating various ointments and other medicinal drugs. The method of its preparation is primarily influenced by the nature of the disease and the indicator of its neglect, but with self-treatment it is better to follow the doctor's recommendations.

How to brew and infuse chaga

Birch mushroom is brewed using various methods: ordinary tea, decoction or infusion. In this case, the range of application of chaga is of no small importance, for example, for inhalation, douching or enemas, so the proportions may be different.

How to prepare a simple broth:

  1. One portion of dried birch mushroom is poured with 5 parts of warm boiled water, but better passed through a filter, and left for 5 hours until completely softened.
  2. The soaked product is wiped on a coarse grater, placed in a ceramic or earthenware container and again filled with the same water.
  3. The composition is kept at a temperature of up to 70 degrees, not reaching a boil, for about an hour over low heat.
  4. After holding for one or two days, the broth is filtered through cheesecloth, and the transparent liquid is mixed with the water remaining from the soaking of the product.
  5. It turns out a pleasant sweetish drink with a touch of ordinary black tea without a colorful smell.
  6. One glass of warmed liquid is taken orally half an hour before meals, and the drink is kept in a cool place for no longer than 4 days.
  7. For throat swelling, inhalation with a decoction for 5-7 minutes a day is effective and beneficial.

In another method of application, the birch mushroom is presented in the form of a tincture, but the mixture is not heated, but kept for two days in a place protected from light, filtered and taken half a liter a day.

Chaga extract

In the form of a medicine, chaga extract is also used, which is found on the shelves of the retail network. To prepare it, 20 g of powder is poured with boiled warm water, kept for up to two days and after straining, take 30 ml 10 minutes before eating.

The alcoholic extract of chaga helps to get rid of the fungus when 300 g of powder is poured in two glasses of vodka and aged for a couple of weeks, but applied externally.

To get rid of periodontal disease, a mixture of powder with chamomile is used, which is infused for about 4 hours in half a liter of boiled water.

There are two stages in the treatment with birch chaga:

  • on the first, lasting from a week to 10 days, the sick get relief, their inflammations and acute pains subside;
  • at the second stage, which manifests itself after a few months, the general condition of the body rises, and studies show that the disease begins to recede.

Chaga for oncology

Official medicine claims that cancer is favored by an acidic environment in the human body, which is a complex system and is distinguished by individuality.

People's academician Bolotov does not agree with this statement, who, on the contrary, assumes that the rapid development of cancer cells is inherent in an alkaline environment.

However, official medicine has not yet developed an effective remedy that allows you to get rid of this common cancer once and for all.

Cancer patients have no choice to alleviate their suffering, so the urgent need is forcing them to turn to traditional medicine recipes.

So, for example, Bolotov's method casually touches on table salt, which supposedly prevents the onset and development of this serious illness, but this question is controversial, since the deposition of salts in the body leads to joint disease.

At the same time, reviews of fans of home treatment of the disease are unanimously inclined to believe that chaga helps to slow down the development of cancer.

Clinical medicine does not argue with such statements, which recognizes the birch mushroom as a raw material for the manufacture of drugs for getting rid of cancer, and produces drugs based on it.

The big advantage of chaga is that the birch mushroom has a wide range of activity in the treatment of cancer and is not toxic. There is practically no allergy to it and pronounced side effects, if the dosages are observed.

At the initial stage of the development of the disease, the use of drugs based on chaga improves the state of health, decreases the attacks of acute pain, slows down the growth of the tumor and the multiplication of cancer cells. Of course, there are little hopes for a complete cure for this insidious disease, but it is still possible to suspend it.

In folk medicine, it is recommended to use alcoholic tinctures of stubby tinder fungus in combination with plantain, St. John's wort, calamus, calendula, but each of the herbs used separately are also prone to anti-cancer effects.

To prepare an alcoholic tincture of chaga, half a glass of the product is poured with 1 liter of vodka and kept for a couple of weeks in a dark, cool place. The drug is taken one tablespoon 3 times a day.

According to another recipe, 50 g of birch mushroom is infused with 300 g of vodka, as in the previous case, but for three weeks already. Reception is carried out in 30 ml of tincture, diluted in a quarter of a glass of water 3 times a day, and the course of application is 10 days.

So, in case of stomach cancer, a decoction of chaga is useful, the preparation procedure for which is as follows:

  1. Chopped birch mushroom in an amount of 200 g is mixed with half a glass of rose hips and pine buds, 20 g of St. John's wort, 10 g of licorice and 5 g of bitter wormwood.
  2. The mixture is poured into 3 liters of water, after 3 hours it is boiled over low heat without boiling, wrapped up and infused in a warm place for 24 hours.
  3. Before use, it is filtered and a glass of aloe juice is added to it.
  4. The drug is taken in 2 tablespoons before meals 3-4 times a day.

If a cancerous tumor is found in the intestine or uterus, then it is recommended to apply the chaga infusion by douching or enema for 3 months each time before bedtime, followed by a break for a week.

Often in people prone to cancer, an overgrown mole turns into melanoma, which contributes to the formation of metastases. To prevent its progression, the use of an ointment based on a stubby tinder fungus helps.

In order to keep the situation under control, before using the natural product, as well as during the process itself, it is recommended to undergo periodic examinations to determine the effect of chaga on the patient's body.

Conclusion

Thus, the use of the birch chaga mushroom is due to the prevention of the body and the treatment of various ailments. Its beneficial properties are confirmed by a mass of reviews, and there is no harm as such, except for contraindications, which is characteristic of any product.

The collection of the chaga mushroom is carried out almost all year round, but when harvesting it is important to correctly identify it by its appearance, since other false specimens are not useful. In addition, it is also available in the retail chain.

P.S. Everyone has their own individual train of thought, so if you have any questions, additions, clarifications and wishes, be sure to leave them in the comments. I will try to answer and jointly dot the i's.

Chaga (birch mushroom) are small growths on hardwood trees. You can meet mushrooms on trees such as alder, maple or mountain ash, but only birch chaga has unique healing properties. The benefits of these growths are undeniable. They have been used since ancient times by traditional healers to treat various diseases, including malignant neoplasms. Also, tinctures, decoctions are prepared from chaga, or simply brewed into tea. We will talk about how to properly collect and dry chaga for the winter in this article.

It is believed that birch chaga can be harvested all year round, but in summer this is problematic because of the deciduous mass, which makes it difficult to find chaga, and in winter because of deep snowdrifts. Folk healers claim that chaga concentrates the maximum amount of nutrients in the spring, before the greenery blooms, or in the fall, after the leaves fall off.

In order to cut chaga from a tree, you need to arm yourself with a sharp, thick knife or a small hatchet. Useful growths cling quite tightly to the trunk, which makes the procedure for collecting chaga rather laborious.

A birch mushroom should be distinguished from a tinder fungus pest. Chaga is always irregular in shape and black in color. Tinder fungus has the shape of a hoof and differs from chaga in lighter shades. Moreover, it can be easily separated from the birch trunk by hand.

Do not pick chaga from dead trees or growths located close to the ground. The healthiest food is believed to be located as close to the top of the tree as possible.

Also, it is better to collect chaga in birch groves, and not on lonely trees. It is believed that mushrooms located on birches by the "company" contain much more useful substances.

Preparing chaga for drying

The collected raw materials should be prepared as follows:

  • pieces of chaga are beaten off with a sharp knife, getting rid of the light friable part that was in contact with the tree;
  • using an ax, remove the hard black bark covering the chaga from above;
  • the brown inner part is cut into pieces no more than 3 - 5 centimeters in diameter.

How to dry a birch mushroom

The main and most correct way to dry chaga is natural, without the use of special heating devices.

The prepared pieces are laid out in a small layer on paper and placed in a dry, well-ventilated room. Also, it is important to protect raw materials from direct sunlight.

In summer, chaga can be dried on verandas or under a canopy, and in winter it can be placed on window sills, sheltered from the sun, not far from heating radiators. Drying time naturally 2 - 3 weeks.

You can also dry chaga in the oven. Drying time is reduced to 8 - 10 hours, but the risk of losing some of the nutrients remains. The oven is heated to a maximum temperature of 50 degrees, and the door is kept ajar.

Modern electric dryers can also cope with the task of quickly drying birch chaga. To do this, the unit is heated to a temperature of 40 degrees and the raw materials are dried for 7 - 8 hours, periodically rearranging the trays in places for more even drying.

How to store chaga

Dried raw materials are capable of retaining their beneficial properties for two years. This is only possible if it is stored correctly. Chaga is placed in paper bags or cardboard boxes. It is impossible to store the medicinal mushroom in containers with a tightly screwed lid, since chaga must "breathe".

Update: October 2018

Chaga is a sterile (in other words, sterile) form of the fungus Tinder fungus or Inonotus canted. Belongs to the genus Inonotus, department of Basidiomycetes. The more famous name - birch mushroom - chaga got a reason: it most often grows on birches (downy and drooping species), less often it affects other crops - mountain ash, alder, beech, elm, maple. It is widespread in birch groves, in the taiga and forest-steppe of the central zone of Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, where it grows almost everywhere. Found in the north of the United States, in Korea.

Chaga can be called a unique mushroom, whose life begins with a small spore Inonotus obliquus. Getting on the damaged area of the tree bark, the spore germinates, typical ridge-like growths are formed. Infection leads to white wood rot.

In the false nucleus, light yellow stripes and spots are formed, which subsequently merge and expand. In rotten wood, the annual layers are easily separated one from one. A brown protective zone is formed around the rot, black lines can be seen inside, and rusty mycelium blotches are visible on the fracture. Growing up to sometimes huge sizes, chaga accumulates useful substances in its body, which it receives from the tree.

Morphological description and botanical features

The body of the chaga appears 3-4 years after infection. It is represented by irregular black ridge-like growths pierced with veins of colorless hyphae. Sizes: 4 to 40 cm in diameter, 10 to 15 cm in thickness. In section, the body has a dense structure of dark brown color. At the point of contact with the tree, the pulp is colored reddish-brown. The surface of the growths is riddled with cracks.

The life span is 10–20 years: the fungus grows and deepens into the wood; after a few years, the fruit body of the fungus with spores, which consists of tubules, sprouts on the opposite side. It develops under the bark, hyphae can spread 0.5-1 m along the length of the trunk. When the spores mature, ridge-like outgrowths are formed that penetrate the bark, exposing a brown-brown hymenophore. At first, the spores are colorless, then turn reddish. The spore walls are thick, with one or two drops of oil inside. Over time, the tree dies.

Collection and procurement

The mushroom is harvested at any time, but it is easier to find it from late autumn to spring, when there is no foliage. In addition, during this period, the greatest biological activity of the fungus is noted. To search, they go deeper into the forest (it is not recommended to shoot from trees along busy roads), choose strong trees.

It is not worth cutting off the bowl from dead or diseased trees, the bases of old trees - the activity of such chaga is insignificant. Old chaga of exclusively black color, which is very large and already crumbling, is also not suitable.

The growth is cut off with an ax under the base, the loose light-colored part is cut off. The raw material needed for harvesting is the outer part and the firm center, without any residual wood or loose mass.

The collected chaga is cut into pieces of about 10 cm, dried in dryers or ovens at t not higher than 60 ºС. In summer, ventilated attics and closed sheds are suitable for drying. Store in a tightly closed jar, exclude the ingress of moisture, since chaga can quickly become moldy. Shelf life is 2 years.

Chemical composition

A complex of biologically active substances was found in the composition of the fungus:

  • water-soluble pigments, combined into a chromogenic polyphenol-carbon complex;
  • triterpenoids;
  • agaricic, oxalic, acetic, formic, butyric, para-hydroxybenzoic, vanillic acids;
  • sterols;
  • resin;
  • polysaccharides;
  • lignin;
  • cellulose;
  • tannins;
  • a large amount of macro- and microelements, especially potassium and manganese.

The therapeutic effect in malignant tumors is associated with the action of sterols and agaric acid.

Useful properties of chaga mushroom

  • Possesses antimicrobial and antiseptic properties. Tannins are involved in the formation of a protective film on the mucous organs.
  • It has tonic and tonic effects. Many natural biogenic stimulants and organic acids that make up the fungus have a powerful therapeutic effect on the body, normalize the balance of hydrogen and hydroxyl ions.
  • It has an antitumor effect when used internally and externally. Decoctions and tinctures of the plant improve the condition of tumors of any localization, reduce pain, and help strengthen the immune system. When treating the initial stages of oncology, chaga inhibits the growth of cancer cells.
  • Reduces blood cholesterol.
  • It has anti-inflammatory effects.
  • Reduces blood sugar levels.
  • Possesses hemostatic properties.
  • Has a diuretic and choleretic effect.
  • Has an analgesic effect.
  • Reduces perspiration.
  • It has a positive effect on the state of the central nervous system: it activates metabolism in the brain tissue, which leads to an increase in the bioelectric activity of the brain.
  • Increases the body's defenses (effect proven in experiments), has a pronounced adaptogenic effect.
  • Promotes attenuation of exacerbation of chronic diseases and an increase in the general immune status.
  • Enhances the cytostatic effect of cyclophosphamide.

Indications for the use of chaga mushroom

Old-timers argue that there is no disease in which chaga would be ineffective: the unique properties of the birch mushroom are able to cope with everything. Perhaps this statement is exaggerated, but the fact that the use of chaga helps prevent many diseases is indisputable.

What chaga helps from (indications):

  • Oncological diseases (about them - below);
  • Diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, including gastric and duodenal ulcers, inflammatory diseases of the liver, pancreas and biliary system;
  • Diseases of the joints and muscles;
  • Neuralgia;
  • Diseases of the CVS (atherosclerosis, arrhythmia);
  • Skin diseases (eczema, psoriasis, frostbite, wounds, inflammation);
  • Pathology of the male and female reproductive systems;
  • Inflammatory diseases of the oral cavity (periodontal disease);
  • Decreased immunity associated with lingering illnesses, operations, etc.;
  • Metabolic disorders, including diabetes mellitus;
  • Hyperglycemia (including those not associated with diabetes mellitus);
  • Excess weight.

Peculiarities of chaga treatment

Medicines based on chaga are taken on two main schemes:

  • in short courses of 7-14 days several times a year, taking long breaks;
  • long courses of 3-5 months and with short breaks of 7-10 days.

With the first treatment regimen, the therapeutic effect is expected longer. Such a course is preferable for the prevention of tumor metastasis after good treatment results and for their consolidation. The second scheme provides a quick healing effect.

Unless otherwise stated in the prescription, the medication is taken half an hour before meals... During the treatment, a plant and dairy diet is recommended with restriction of meat, fats, smoked meats, canned food, hot spices, sweets, and alcohol. You can add bran bread and non-carbonated mineral water to the diet. It is impossible to inject intravenous glucose and penicillin during the treatment of chaga.

The use of chaga preparations for medicinal purposes is possible only after the diagnosis has been established, especially if long-term treatment regimens are being considered. It is very important to adhere to the dosage regimen, not to increase or decrease the dose. During treatment, you can observe 2 phases of the effect of drugs on the body.

  • In the first phase, relief is noted, pain and inflammation are significantly reduced (after about 2 weeks of administration).
  • The second phase begins after a couple of months: the general condition improves, the person feels well, and upon examination, it can be found that the disease has receded.

Chaga in the treatment of oncology

They say that people who drink a decoction and infusion of chaga instead of tea do not get cancer. Chaga also helps those who get cancer. Many physicians recommend chaga for cancer monotherapy and advise patients to skip the main treatment. But this approach is fundamentally wrong - you need to weigh the benefits of chaga and the harm that the lack of treatment can cause. Precious time can be wasted to not only stop the disease, but also save the patient's life.

Nevertheless, the use of chaga as an adjuvant therapy in oncology gives good results and a stable effect without relapses. The highest therapeutic effect is observed in people with early stages of cancer: general health improves, pains go away, and tumor growth stops.

The choice of means and methods of application in the treatment of cancer depends on the condition of the patient. In any case, the doctor in charge of the patient should be informed of the intention to be treated with chaga.

Chaga is effective in combination with calendula, St. John's wort, calamus and plantain - these plants themselves have anti-cancer effects, and in combination, they enhance each other's actions.

Chaga larch is also a birch mushroom?

Many people confuse larch and birch chaga. These are different mushrooms. Larch chaga is also a woody fungus, it consists of a mycelium that penetrates the trunk of a tree and forms a fruit body. Lives for a long time, reaching a weight of up to 3 kg. Has a rough surface with bumps and severely cracked crust. It affects the Siberian cedar and fir growing in the north-east of Russia, Siberia.

True and false tinder fungi are the most common "clones" of chaga, which uninformed people mistake for a medicinal mushroom. The fruit body of both mushrooms has a hoof-like shape, convex at the top (without cracks) and flattened at the bottom, with a velvety surface.

Summary

The fact that chaga helps the body fight the scourge of the 21st century - oncology - is no longer in doubt. Reasonable use of chaga preparations together with competent professional treatment allows, if not to cure, then to suspend the insidious disease and achieve stable remission. We sincerely wish health to every person who goes through this difficult path to recovery, and we will also be glad to hear your feedback about birch chaga.

Chaga is one of the unique creations of nature that helps a person to maintain and strengthen health. This growth on the tree at first glance seems unremarkable and completely useless. But in reality it is not that simple and is nothing more than a mushroom. He is able to grow from just one spore that has fallen on a tree, and reach simply enormous sizes. During its life, such a mushroom feeds on tree sap, as a result of which it is saturated with many valuable substances that have the most beneficial effect on the human body. The beneficial properties of chaga were described in one of our previous articles. Now we will talk about how the birch mushroom is harvested and used for prophylactic and medicinal purposes.

Harvesting chaga

The collection of birch mushroom, in principle, can be while away throughout the year, however, experts in this field advise to harvest it in late autumn or early spring, since it is at this time that the highest concentration of nutrients is observed in it. Chaga can be found in any birch grove almost throughout Russia, but it is most common in the forests of the middle zone.

The growths present only on growing birches are suitable for harvesting. Mushrooms growing on other types of trees or on already dead, withered plants are of no value. As a medicine, crumbling, old and black growths inside, as well as those that grow near the ground, are also not suitable.

When collecting chaga, it is very important not to confuse it with another fungus growing on a birch - a false tinder fungus. To do this, you should know their main differences:

  • Chaga has a very dark, almost black, rough surface of irregular shape. Its outgrowths are hard and broken, slightly softer and lighter at the base.
  • False tinder similar to a hemisphere, convex above and smooth below. Its outer side is velvety and less coarse than that of chaga, gray in color with dark brown circles.

The chaga mushroom is harvested using an ax or a large knife. The growth is pruned at the very base, the inner, softer, clearer and outer hard, bark-like layer is separated, leaving only the useful middle part. Since chaga hardens soon, after being removed from the tree and removing unnecessary parts, it is immediately cut into pieces of 4-5 centimeters in size. Then the parts of the mushroom are dried in a warm, dry, well-ventilated place or in a dryer at a temperature not exceeding fifty degrees. After that, the chaga is folded into jars and tightly closed with a lid; you can also use knitted linen bags for its storage. You can store the mushroom in this way for about two years.

Many people use chaga tea not at all in order to cure a particular disease, but simply for pleasure. Indeed, it has a pleasant taste, therefore it perfectly diversifies the diet. Nevertheless, its regular use has a wonderful act on the body. Namely:

  • enhances immunity;
  • normalizes metabolism;

Sometimes birch chaga is prepared as follows - two hundred grams of mushroom are dipped in a liter of boiling water and boiled over low heat for a quarter of an hour. This method will also be simple, but he has many opponents who claim that it is impossible to boil the mushroom, since this destroys most of the valuable substances. Since such a drink comes out unconcentrated, there are no particular restrictions on its number. But the chaga birch mushroom, the use of which is aimed at combating any disease, can be used and used in different ways, depending on the type and form of the disease. At the time of the course of treatment, especially if it is aimed at combating diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, blood vessels and heart, it is recommended to turn off sausages, animal fats, smoked meats, spicy and salty dishes, meat broths, concentrated coffee and tea from the diet. During this period, it is better to stick to a diet based on dairy products and plant foods.

Such treatment must be carried out according to the scheme: ten days of admission, 5 - interval, again ten days of admission, 10 - interval, after that, the cycle resumes.

Chaga mushroom: rules for collecting and drying birch chaga - harvesting chaga at home

How and when to collect chaga

  • pieces of chaga are beaten off with a sharp knife, getting rid of the light friable part that was in contact with the tree;
  • using an ax, remove the hard black bark covering the chaga from above;

What is birch chaga, how and why is it formed

If the bark is damaged, the tree can become infected with spores of the fungus Inonotus obliquus, which grow deeper into the trunk. In this place, an outgrowth is formed - chaga, in which substances secreted by the tree to fight the uninvited guest accumulate. These substances are immunostimulants that have a therapeutic effect on a living organism.

Chaga grows on a birch tree as a cancerous tumor and the tree, fighting against it, tries to suppress its growth, therefore, the growth contains substances that can restrain the ongoing pathological processes.

The chemical composition is not well understood

Chaga is not well studied chemically. It consists of about 12% ash, contains a lot of manganese, potassium and calcium, as well as acids (acetic, formic, oxalic, butyric, vanillic), polysaccharides, lignin, fiber, free phenols, etc.

The presence of pterins in chaga determines its antitumor effect, incl. and with malignant tumors.

Chaga in medicine: research on medicinal properties

The study of chaga as a medicine for use in medicine and the study of its effect on the human body began in the 60s of the last century.

The Leningrad Medical Institute conducted a number of studies that showed that chaga normalizes redox processes, strengthens, tones and restores the nervous system, eliminates exacerbations and normalizes the functions of the stomach and duodenum. X-ray studies have confirmed the positive effect of chaga in gastrointestinal diseases. When the infusion of the mushroom was consumed, venous and blood pressure decreased, and the pulse slowed down. Chaga broth allowed to reduce blood sugar from 15% to 30%.

Studies carried out in Kiev have shown that the use of chaga activates the metabolism of brain tissue, i.e. the activity of the cerebral cortex increases. Chaga has general and local anti-inflammatory properties. In these experiments, it was found that chaga helps to slow down the growth of some tumors and reduces the effect of radiation exposure.

In Japan, studies of the medicinal properties of chaga were carried out, as a result of which they recorded high antiviral and immunomodulatory properties of preparations from chaga.

At the University of Haifa (Israel), the anticancer activity of chaga preparations was investigated and confirmed.

So, chaga is a unique mushroom that is saturated with a huge amount of useful substances and has a wide range of therapeutic effects.

Chaga has three layers in its structure. Outside, it is black, has bumps and cracks. The middle layer is brown, granular. The inner one is loose, it is removed during harvesting. The inside of the mushroom is crushed and dried for a long time at a temperature of 50 degrees.

When collecting chaga, it must be distinguished from other tinder mushrooms. For example, the false tinder fungus has a convex top and a flat bottom. It is softer and has a gray velvety color. Recipe for making an infusion of chaga, birch mushroom. Chaga mushroom tea: 7 recipes

Chaga is a fairly common birch mushroom, which is actively used in folk medicine. It is known that chaga enhances immunity, improves metabolism, and has anti-inflammatory effects. Chaga infusion can be prepared at home in several ways.

The main recipe for the infusion of birch mushroom.

It is necessary to thoroughly wash a piece of chaga, fill it with lukewarm purified or boiled water and leave for 6 or 7 hours, so that the mushroom is completely softened. It is not recommended to place it in a wooden or metal dish - the best option would be glass or ceramic.

Then the softened mushroom must be squeezed out, but the water must not be poured out! Next, the chaga is crushed by passing it through a meat grinder or rubbing it with a regular grater. The water in which a piece of chaga was soaked should be heated to 40-50 ° C, and the chopped mushroom should be poured with it at the following rate: 5 parts of water for 1 part of a birch mushroom.It is important not to make the water too hot, otherwise the chaga will lose its beneficial properties ... The mushroom is infused in a cool place for 2 days, since the infusion can ferment at room temperature.

The resulting infusion is carefully filtered and stored in a tightly sealed container in a cool, dark place. It must be used within four days.

The above method of making chaga infusion is the most gentle of all, it helps to preserve the optimal amount of nutrients and does not change the medicinal properties of the birch mushroom. This method is used as a basic method for preparing chaga infusion in the treatment of various diseases.

A quick recipe for making an infusion of birch mushroom

Place the birch mushroom, thoroughly washed and cut into small pieces, in a glass jar and pour over boiling water, adhering to the following proportion: 250 g of mushroom per 1 liter of water, then let the chaga brew for 5-7 hours.

The resulting infusion is filtered, it must be used for its intended purpose in three days, since after this time it loses its beneficial properties.

Of course, the amount of useful substances in the infusion obtained in a quick way is slightly less than when using the traditional recipe for making an infusion from chaga, since the use of hot water somewhat reduces the effect, however, such an infusion is also successfully used in folk medicine.

Birch mushroom tea recipe

In the event that it is not possible to devote a large amount of time to preparing the infusion of chaga, then you can brew it like ordinary tea. This method is successfully used in field conditions, when the mushroom has just been harvested.

Boil water in any dish other than aluminum. Pieces of chaga are placed in slightly boiling water, taking into account the proportion: for 1 liter of water, 200-250 g of mushroom. Then cool the drink to a comfortable temperature and consume it internally.

It should be noted that in terms of the content of nutrients, this drink is significantly inferior to the infusions obtained using the first two recipes.
