Old new table - DIY restoration and renovation. Table decor: creative ideas How to decorate a glass table with your own hands

DIY coffee table decor

The word "decor" means decoration. Having at hand paints, wallpapers, pictures, mosaics, natural materials, you can decorate any interior item, and even more so to carry out the original decor of the coffee table.

To do this, it is enough to decide what is available, choose the right technique and charge with determination by studying the proposed ideas. So, for your attention there are several options to make at least an original interior decoration out of an old coffee table, and as a maximum - a work of art.

Types of coffee table decoration:

You can decorate a coffee table:

As they say, there would be a table. Even if it is old, creaky, nondescript, it can be an excellent basis for creating a new creative household item. Let's see how the masters do it.

Decoupage is the application of paper or fabric to a surface. To decorate the coffee table, its surface is preliminarily primed and polished, and then covered with paint.

A layer of PVA glue is applied to the dried paint layer, and on it:

  • decoupage card (finished parts);
  • a piece of paper napkin (previously freed from the second layer);
  • photos;
  • the cloth;
  • lace.

The entire dried image is covered with several layers of varnish. This technique allows you to give an original look even to the most ordinary wooden table. It will bloom like a lawn, turn into a map of the world, or become a storage place for old photographs.

The easiest option is to cover the table with wallpaper or fabric. It is important to fix the edges well and smooth the surface moistened with glue. Using push pins (with a shiny one-piece hat) can give the table a spice.

A separate article is devoted to decoupage of a coffee table.

Mosaic

Do-it-yourself coffee table decor can be done using mosaics. To do this, you need to prepare materials such as:

  • spray paint;
  • sandpaper;
  • mesh tiles - mosaic;
  • glue;
  • grout.

Of the tools, you cannot do without a brush for applying glue, a spatula and scissors.

1. Cover the table with paint and let it dry well.

2. Cover the area for applying the tile pattern with glue.

3. Apply the prepared tile fragment, press down and also let dry.

4. The joints between the tiles must be thoroughly treated with grout and then washed off from the tile surface.

Tip: Before grouting, cover well the surface of the table that is not tiled.

You will get an original and practical table. If you master the technique, then you can tackle more complex patterns.

Painting

You can decorate everything with paints! It is enough to have 2 contrasting colors to create a bright pattern. Here you can show your talent and paint the table by hand, or you can make a stencil and apply an image on it. It can be butterflies, flowers, ornament and much more. To your attention - contrasts when decorating a coffee table with your own hands: a red star on a white background.

For this we need:

  • white and red paint;
  • paper stencil;

1. We clean all the irregularities on the surface of the table, primer and grind if necessary.

2. Cover the product with white paint and let it dry.

3. Preparing the stencil. To do this, print the drawing (black and white) on large paper (the smaller the drawing, the easier it is). Cut out the pattern with a knife.

4. We fix the stencil on the tabletop, carefully close all the other elements of the table and apply red paint.

5. After drying, the stencil is removed, and if necessary, the edges of the image are drawn with a brush or contour.

6. Using varnish-and-paint polish will make the drawing brighter and more shiny.

Craquelure

Craquelure is a method of artificial aging of the surface, when either craquelure varnish or such improvised means as egg white, PVA glue, vinegar or gelatin is applied to a not completely frozen paint layer. The technique allows you to achieve the appearance of a cracking effect on the surface. Cracks, depending on the materials, can be very different - from large to the smallest cobweb. The use of 2 contrasting colors looks good. The second layer is applied after the first is slightly dry.

To make a decorative coffee table, you can combine craquelure and decoupage techniques. In this case, the effect of cracking can cover the entire surface, on top of which drawings are applied from napkins using decoupage technique, and then varnish is applied.

Mirrors

A mirror table will look great in a modern interior. To make it, you will need:

  • box-base made of chipboard;
  • silver (paint in a spray can);
  • mirrors;
  • liquid Nails.

1. We knock off a base box of any suitable size from plywood or chipboard. We pay special attention to the places where the sheets are bound.

2. We cover the entire structure with silver plating.

3. We cut out ourselves or order 5 mirrors in the workshop, corresponding to the area of \u200b\u200bthe box edges.

4. We glue the mirrors on liquid nails.

5. Carefully remove traces of glue.

6. Fix the mirrors until dry with masking tape.

Shells

Seashells in the interior are always a reminder of summer and the romance of the sea coast.

Seashells are decorated with ready-made glass tables with a double bottom. But you can try to build such a table yourself from wood, bamboo, twine and glass, decorating it with shells.

From materials you will need:

  • plywood (sheet thickness - 2-3 cm);
  • thick glass (at least 1 cm);
  • thick and thin bamboo sticks;
  • twine (2-3 m);
  • silicone gaskets;
  • fastening tools (nails and screws).

1. Determine the size of the future table.

2. Cut a piece of glass and plywood to the same size. If the base is already there, then plywood is not needed.

3. On the base of the table or a plywood blank, we attach a bamboo frame (we use bamboo with a large diameter).

4. On the edge of the plywood or the existing surface of the table, nail the twine with small nails.

5. Cover the bamboo and twine with varnish.

6. Drill holes in the bamboo frame for attaching silicone gaskets (at least 2 holes on each side).

7. In the resulting niche inside the bamboo frame we beautifully lay out shells, corals, natural and artificial stones.

8. To add style to the whole structure, decorate the table legs with thin bamboo.

Wooden pads

An excellent table made of pads will fit into an interior where there are many colors, and the decoration is carried out with natural materials. Before decorating the coffee table, you will need to pick up a dry, even, birch log without unnecessary knots, the diameter of which is about 10 cm.

1. We prepare a wooden or plywood box of the required size. Its lower bottom should recede from the walls by 10 cm.

2. We measure its height and add 2 cm. This will be the length of the blanks that need to be cut from the log.

3. After the log is cut, each piece is sanded to remove roughness.

4. The bars are installed on the protruding part of the bottom of the box, along the perimeter. To do this, they are seated on glue (they coat the bottom and the side adjacent to the box) and fasten them together.

5. To finish the countertop, the log is cut into identical workpieces 2 cm thick. They are laid out on the table, after having greased each with glue.

6. The holes between the workpieces are overwritten.

7. The finished table is once again treated with sandpaper and then varnished.

8. The structure will turn out to be heavy, so it is better to equip it with wheels.

Decorative coffee tables will be especially appropriate in the country or in a country cottage. They are made simply, but they look very stylish! In this case, you can experiment with the location of the pads.

Veneering

If a classic-style coffee table fits better into your interior and you already have a table, only its surface is worn out, then it can be easily changed. For this, veneering is used. This is the gluing of thin veneer sheets to the surface, which is performed by hot and cold methods. Thus, any kind of wood can be imitated.

An important condition for achieving a good result will be the availability of screw clamps or a press, which are used in a more appropriate cold veneering method at home. But veneer can also be applied using PVA glue and an iron. To do this, the surface is coated with glue, they wait until it dries, a veneer sheet is laid, a white sheet of paper is placed on top, and the top is already carried out with a hot iron. It is important to prevent the veneer from swelling, and in the event of bubbles appearing, get rid of them correctly. To do this, a small hole is made in the bubble with a needle, through which excess air or glue is expelled. Then this place is additionally processed with an iron. After the veneer is applied, the edges are carefully trimmed and sanded. The last stage is to varnish the product.

The decor of coffee tables, the photos of which we have shown you, are quite accessible even for a novice master. A few trial lessons and we're sure your coffee table will turn out even better!

If you are going to move into a new apartment or, with an awakened passion for renovation, examining the familiar interior, they often sort out a fairly standard set: furniture, curtains, wallpaper, carpets. Further thoughts usually do not go, which is understandable, with this would be dealt with. It's no secret that the way to a new home usually goes through a natural disaster - renovation. But suppose that through this stage we have safely "passed", as through the Alps.

Stretch ceilings shine, sliding wardrobes do not give anyone the secret of how many pairs of shoes you have, a lovingly chosen carpet is spread out under your feet. And yet - something is missing, some real trifle, so that the house has acquired a habitable look and warmth. So it's time to wake up the designer in yourself and add a special, exclusive note to the interior.

Take, for example, do-it-yourself table decor - so that it is both beautiful and practical.

It cannot be that somewhere in the house there is not a table hidden, no one knows how it got out of the old apartment. Do not rush to accompany him to the trash heap on a dark night, grant him a new life!
All the tables in the photo below barely escaped such a fate, and now - who will give them up voluntarily? ..

DIY coffee table: steps to create a masterpiece! 64 photo instructions

The next "veteran" was transformed with a piece of wallpaper and furniture studs with beautiful hats: work for 10 minutes, and how much pleasure! Broken tiles are an excellent material for cladding a coffee table. Stencils with the popular paisley pattern were used to paint the kitchen table.

You can get inspiration everywhere - in an autumn park, on an empty beach, collecting seashells or pebbles and enjoying the velvet season.

Do not rush to throw small pebbles back into the sea with regret. All this can be excellent material for decoration, even eggshells can be used!

A table for two! ..
And you can find inspiration in each other, as happened with a couple of newlyweds who celebrated their housewarming right on the floor of the only room. And then friends gave them a table - cute, but well-worn. Two days of inspired joint creativity - and here he is, a handsome "table for two"!

The cheerful and original design also carries an educational load - at this table you will never confuse where to put a knife, where to put a fork. It turned out quite a designer thing.

The festive color of lime green will delight someone, others will want to muffle it a little. So that's why it is creativity, that everything is in your hands.

Such transformation of furniture does not require special skills and talent of the artist.

The entire master class can be laid in three steps: removing the old, in places peeling, varnish with a construction hair dryer.

Then the surface must be thoroughly sanded. Make a "reverse stencil" (forks, spoons, whatever), stick to the table on double-sided tape. The table is painted in a color dear to the heart, dries.

The stencil is removed and you can admire the result!

The festive table is not only unusual dishes, but also bright dishes and original decorations. And if a snow-white tablecloth and plates, wine glasses and napkins matching it in style and color are enough for an adult holiday, then the table design for a child's birthday needs to be thought out more carefully.

Old new table - DIY restoration and renovation

Indeed, for children, the feeling of a holiday is much more important than culinary delights.

Where little children will eat, it is better not to put a starched lace tablecloth, especially if it is white. Better to focus on more practical options:

Since we are talking about a children's party, it is imperative to take care of safety.

Kids are restless people, they will all the time jump up, spin and turn. If the oilcloth or tablecloth is not firmly fixed, it may soon be on the floor along with all the serving. Therefore, pieces of double-sided tape must be glued directly to the surface of the table in the corners, and then the fabric, paper or polyethylene will firmly adhere to it.

Dishes and napkins

Table decoration for a children's birthday can even be tableware, if it is bright. It is better to leave the porcelain service for adult events, and offer the children disposable plates with pictures and plastic cups.

  1. Large napkins are placed under the plates. If a plate with a pattern, then it is better to use a plain napkin. And for plain dishes, you can make a napkin with an applique.
  2. Cut out the outlines of cupcakes and cakes from colored paper.
  3. Glue them to a paper towel on one side.
  4. Place the plate on top so that the corner with the applique is visible.
  5. Also, figures are sometimes cut out of large square napkins: snowflakes, the contours of the head of some animal (for example, a bear or a monkey), cars, etc.

    or they simply roll up napkins, as for adult celebrations.

As for the cups, you can go in two ways: take ready-made paper or plastic cups with a pattern, or arrange ordinary white ones. What is used for registration?

  • ribbons - they are tied around a glass and bows are made;
  • pictures cut out from somewhere and glued to the glass;
  • colored paper - you can cut out eyes, a nose and a mouth from it, glue it to a glass and get a funny face;
  • paints used to paint white cardboard cups.

If you decide to use paint, then it is better to take acrylic - it will not remain in the hands of the kids.

Sometimes glass bottles or jars are used as glasses. Strips of paper with the name of the guest are glued to them so that the children do not confuse who was drinking what.

Accessories

How beautiful to decorate the table for a child's birthday, what else, besides the obligatory items, will help create a festive atmosphere?

  1. Balls.

    The balloons are pumped with helium, bunches are made (3-5 balloons each) and tied on a long ribbon to something heavy in the center of the table or in several places. Sometimes the names of the guests are written on the balls and each of them is tied to the chair on which the little guest will sit.

  2. Birthday caps.

    They are placed next to the plates, and also used as pouches, where candy or colorful popcorn is poured.

  3. Name cards. If you put a card with the guest's name on each plate (or next to it), this will allow children to feel like important persons at the holiday. Cards can be made in the form of postcards or simply write the name on a piece of beautiful cardboard and attach it with tape or stapler to a napkin.
  4. Checkboxes.

    Paper or cloth flags are attached to a cord that can be hung both over the place of the meal and along the edges of the tablecloth. Be sure to make sure that the colors of the flags coincide with the theme of the event: blue, blue and white striped flags are suitable for the nautical style, and the flags in the form of crowns should be cut out for a birthday in the style of a little princess.

  5. Letters. Now it is very fashionable to decorate the table with letters.

    This can be the name of the hero of the occasion on a stand, individual letters randomly arranged among plates and glasses, from which you can collect the name of the birthday person or the phrase "happy birthday", as well as letters written on a cardboard and stuck into the treats.

For a children's party, you can come up with many different design options.

But before decorating the table for a child's birthday, you should definitely consult with the baby. Perhaps he will suggest an idea, or vice versa - he will categorically refuse what adults have already come up with.

Painted table - a large conference table located in Dragonstone Castle. This is a unique piece of furniture that belonged to Aegon the Conqueror and was made on his orders. Aegon used this table when planning the Conquest of Westeros. The castle hall, in which the Painted Table stands, is located at the top of the Stone Drum Tower and is simply called the Chamber of the Painted Table.

The walls of the Chamber are oriented to the cardinal points, each with a large pointed window.

It is a massive wooden structure covered with varnish that has darkened from time to time. Its shape reproduces exactly the map of Westeros, with all the headlands and bays; a table about fifty feet long, about 25 wide at its widest point, and no more than four at its narrowest — apparently at the Isthmus.

The tabletop depicts various places and lands - cities and castles, mountains and rivers - where they are in the real Westeros.

DIY table decor - 2 master classes

The painted table also serves as a political map - it depicts the seven independent kingdoms that existed before the Conquest, but the boundaries between them are not marked.

It is not known if this means that King's Landing and other cities that did not exist before the Conquest are not marked on the table.

The chair, a high-backed chair, sits at the long edge of the table, roughly in the middle, exactly where Dragonstone itself is off the coast of Westeros. The whole map is clearly visible from here. It was in the Chamber of the Painted Table that the aged Aegon the Conqueror, in 37 A.D., while telling his grandchildren about the Conquest, suffered a stroke and died shortly thereafter.

Seven Kingdoms is a misnomer. Aegon understood this even three hundred years ago, standing in this very place. This map was made by his order. Rivers and bays, hills and mountains, castles, cities and towns are marked on it ... but there are no borders on it. It is one country, and one king must rule it. Stannis Baratheon // Storm of Swords, John II

Sometimes the interior of the home begins to seem boring and pretty boring. You can solve this problem by starting a major renovation, purchase new furniture, or at least move the old one from a familiar place to a new one. But a little time passes, and again you want something new, but there is no desire to invest in updating the situation. In such cases, you can slightly change the appearance of old furniture: do the table decor with your own hands, repaint it, paint it or lay it out with a mosaic. Even such an insignificant alteration that does not require investment of money will bring a fresh touch to the decoration of the house and give positive emotions during and after work.

A coffee table with monochrome photos and drawings will stand out against the general background of the interior. The black and white range of colors with shades of silver will add mystery to it.

What will help restore an old table?

Whichever way the table is decorated, before starting work, it is required to completely remove the old paintwork, on which there may be cracks, bubbles or chips. To apply a new decorative layer, the most even surface is required. Therefore, among the tools, different and slightly unexpected things will be required:

  • spatulas (metal and rubber);
  • household sponge (made of metal fibers and foam rubber with a hard layer);
  • sandpaper;
  • a toothbrush, needle, or toothpicks;
  • nail polish remover;
  • wood glue;
  • putty, adhesive for ceramic tiles;
  • ruler, corner, pencil;
  • paints and varnishes;
  • brushes;
  • gloves, respirator.

It will take some effort to remove the varnish from the table surface. The easiest way is to apply a special gel and remove the softened layer. It is convenient to remove varnish from the joints of parts with a hard toothbrush or a needle.

After removing the varnish, the surfaces are carefully treated with sandpaper or a steel sponge. To protect your lungs from inhaling dust, you need to take care of purchasing a respirator in advance. The prepared table can be re-decorated in a variety of ways.

Simple ways to decorate the table

Figure 1. Do-it-yourself table decor options: 1-table for washing with a built-in tap and a sink; 2-desk covered with wallpaper; 3-striped coffee table; 4-table covered with oilcloth or self-adhesive foil.

Using paint, wallpaper, ceramic tiles and glass, you can make a completely new thing from an old piece of furniture. In fig. 1 shows do-it-yourself table decor options:

  1. Bathroom remodel - washbasin table with built-in faucet and sink. To install the faucet and sink, cut holes in which the plumbing fixtures are fixed according to the instructions for it. Additionally, the table top is partially replaced with tiles. To do this, cut out a rectangle of the required size. A sheet of plywood or MDF is attached to the underside of the tabletop. The resulting niche is filled with putty or tile glue, on which the tiles are laid, aligning it flush with the surface of the countertop. After laying, the joints are rubbed with a grout mixture. Color the table.
  2. To create a writing desk, the prepared surface was covered with wallpaper, which was glued to it. After drying, you can additionally treat the countertop with a transparent colorless varnish to protect the wallpaper from wear. By ordering a sheet of glass cover from the store, the table is given its final look.
  3. To make a striped coffee table, it is pre-painted in any light tone color (gray, beige, blue, etc.). After the paint has dried, masking tape is glued to the countertop and sides, forming strips of arbitrary width. They paint the countertop between the scotch tape, choosing colors to taste. The tape is removed, the dried table is covered with a transparent varnish layer. Using stencils, you can apply to the countertop and any other pattern.
  4. This decor of the old table is suitable for the kitchen: a regular oilcloth or self-adhesive film of any color will serve as a tabletop coating. The frame of the table is painted in colors that are contrasting or combined with the film pattern. If an oilcloth is chosen for upholstery, it should be spread on the table top, the edges should be bent down and secured with a stapler, pulling the cover well. The corners must be carefully tucked in and secured.

DIY mosaic tabletop

Figure 2. A table made of pieces of ceramic tiles, colored glass or shards of dishes.

From pieces of ceramic tiles, colored glass or shards of crockery, you can create a real work of art on the table top intended for table decoration. To do this, you need to prepare the surface and paint it in a light color. After drying, apply any pattern to the countertop and, using special glue, lay out a mosaic of prepared multi-colored glass or ceramics. Multi-colored pebbles and wood cuts can act as a material for a mosaic. The choice depends on the purpose of the table and the interior in which it will be located (Fig. 2).

After the drawing is completely assembled and the glue is set, cover the entire surface of the mosaic with a tile grout, carefully rubbing it with a rubber spatula into the gaps between the mosaic elements. Wipe the drawing with a sponge or rag, without waiting for the grout to dry. Dry the finished mosaic for 4-5 hours and finally clean it with a damp sponge from the grout residues. To protect against moisture, cover the mosaic tabletop with transparent varnish.

In this case, the frame of the table can be painted in contrasting or matching colors, and decorated with mosaics.

Have you got a fantasy to decorate old home furniture with your own hands? Get down to business more boldly - the result is worth it. You will get a new piece of furniture that is completely different from the others, and spend time realizing the craving for creativity that is in every person. It is best to start your artistic experiment with a simple object with a small flat surface, i.e. think over and implement the decor of the table. And then, after trying some techniques, improving your skills, you can move on to decorating more complex objects.

We draw up an action plan

Any work, especially if you are doing it for the first time, requires a clear plan. By completing simple individual points, it will be easier for you to achieve the desired result. Imagine yourself as a commander developing the course of the upcoming battle according to all the rules of the art of war. To win, you need to have a clear understanding of the terrain, think over a strategy, attract the necessary manpower, bring up ammunition, and also choose the right time for the offensive.

Drawing analogies, create your own algorithm of actions:

  • Decide which table you will be decorating (kitchen or writing, outdoor or indoor).
  • Browse illustrated magazines or photos on interior sites - choose interesting samples.
  • Study the decor method you like in theory.
  • Prepare the necessary materials and tools.
  • Take into service the phrase from the film "Wizards" based on the Strugatsky brothers "The main thing is to believe in yourself, not to see obstacles" and you will succeed.

Choosing a way to decorate

There are so many options for decorating a horizontal surface that paint lovers, collage makers, collectors of all stripes, masters of collecting a single whole from pieces will find suitable for themselves. Decorating a wooden table with their own hands will be completely mastered by beginners, and for "advanced users" the creation of such interior objects can be an opportunity to make a special gift to a friend, close person or relatives. In this case, it is necessary to take into account the style characteristics of the furnishings of these people's apartments.

Attention! The decor method should be selected based on the location of the table and the degree of its use.

Decoupage is not suitable for a country table for family meals in the open air. In this case, a durable coating that is resistant to precipitation and abrasion is required. The play or computer table in the nursery is also subject to great stress, so it should be decorated so that the mother's heart does not bite painfully when the child "barbarously" draws directly on the surface or sticks plasticine to it. But the armchair, boudoir or side tables can be decorated more "gently", because their use does not imply heavy loads.

Everyone is an artist at heart

The easiest way to give an old table a new lease of life is with paint. There are many decoration options:

  • full monochromatic painting (a bright small table will become the accent of a room decorated in modern styles)
  • geometric coloring in different tones (in this case, the decor of the table implies a combination of stripes, squares, other figures, visual illusions can be created on its surface, and the legs with a base can be painted in the main color)
  • drawing on a plain surface of a contrasting pattern on a stencil (templates are used in the form of borders, individual elements, a central volumetric rosette, fonts)
  • art painting a la modern, provence, art nouveau, variations of Russian or oriental styles (if you do not feel the talent of an artist in yourself, in order to freely draw in the manner you like, start copying, choosing a suitable ornamental motive)

To apply a geometric pattern, you will need: a simple pencil, a ruler, sandpaper (coarse and fine-grained), a primer, quick-drying paint on wood, masking tape, flat brushes of various widths.

Attention! If the color spots are very bulky, use small rollers with the finest sponge. A nap or large pore roller will leave visible marks on the surface. However, if your goal is an additional embossing effect, then such a tool will allow you to get it.

We work according to plan - we get a unique interior object

Having prepared the necessary tools to give the table a new look, follow these steps in sequence:

  • Sketch your drawing.
  • Sand the entire table with coarse sandpaper, then go through it thoroughly with fine sandpaper.
  • If you want to get to the natural wood at the old painted table, then you will need special paint removers and a spatula.
  • Dust the prepared product carefully (a vacuum cleaner, a well-wrung cloth is useful).
  • Once completely dry, cover the entire surface with a primer.
  • Turn the table over, paint over the legs, underframe, underside of the tabletop with the main color, let the paint dry well.
  • Return the table to its traditional position, transfer the sketch to it in pencil using a ruler.
  • Draw the borders of the first color spot with masking tape.
  • Paint over the resulting window (do not brush too much paint on the brush, the uneven thickness of the paint layer leads to the formation of sags, which will not add aesthetic appeal to the object of decoration).
  • Carefully peel off the masking tape without waiting for the paint to dry to maintain a clear border.
  • Continue painting the shapes in sequence. The joint elements can be filled only after the previous element has completely dried and the masking tape is glued along the joint line.
  • After your sketch is completely transferred to the surface of the table, leave the object to dry, and then (if you want to get a glossy surface) cover it with varnish.

Sheer top, tight bottom

An interesting option for decorating a table is to use glass of a suitable size to create a "picture".

In the first case, collages from any images, old postcards, photographs, children's drawings, compositions of dried flowers, leaves, a fan of music sheets or pages of pre-revolutionary books are placed under glass, cut exactly to the size of the tabletop. Thick glass tightly presses the "exposure", its elements can hardly be glued together. Having raised the glass, it is easy to replace the annoying visual row and place a new selection in a conspicuous place.

An old table, if still functional, can be easily converted into a new one. The result may even exceed your expectations, because the new table will be brighter, more original and, most importantly, positively charged with your creativity. Stock up on inspiration, simple materials and go ahead, embody ideas!

Note before starting: in almost all cases, the table needs to be prepared for the transformation. Wipe it with a sandpaper, clean it from dust and degrease it with alcohol or special means.

Paint in stripes

Painting is one of the fastest and most effective techniques in furniture decor. To make it more interesting, we suggest making the table striped. Masking tape will help you to do the work: paint the table in the main color, and then glue strips of adhesive tape and apply a couple of layers of a different color. Peel off the tape - the effect is ready. Can be repeated many times to make stripes of different colors and widths. Remember to cover everything with varnish for reliability. Tin the same way, you can create zigzags, for example.

Paint with slate paint

The table painted with special slate paint will be laconic black or dark green. But now you can leave notes and draw with crayons right on the table. And how much more convenient it is to play board games where you have to write down points! The table itself can serve as a field for tic-tac-toe or a gallows.

The film also may not be simple, but slate or even with the effect of a white marker board. Above a table with a pattern of triangular pieces of film, as in the photo below, you will have to tinker a little longer, but the result will be very stylish!

Stripes with multi-colored tape

A striped table can be made not only by painting. Lines made of decorative tape or electrical tape of different colors and patterns will make the table bright, shiny and elegant. This one is perfect for a nursery or adds a touch of mischief to an adult interior.

Tile

Ceramic tiles or mosaics will make the countertop not only beautiful, but also very practical, because the tile is not afraid of moisture and is easy to clean. The principle is the same as with walls: tile adhesive plus grout. You can take a whole tile, or you can be broken for the effect of the Spanish mosaic. You will find more creative ideas from tile remnants.

Paste over with pages of books

Choose your favorite book and give it a second life: glue each page to the table with PVA glue. Several coats of varnish (preferably from a spray can) will make the surface smooth and ennoble the color. It is a good idea to take dictionary pages or sheet music.

Romantic lace

A simple technique will help to make the tabletop more elegant - coloring through lace. To do this, you need to take a lace napkin or tulle, which you do not mind ruining, put it on the table on top of the base layer of paint and apply a different color on top. It is best to use a sponge or spray paint to avoid smearing the image from roller movements.

The word "decor" means decoration. Having at hand paints, wallpapers, pictures, mosaics, natural materials, you can decorate any interior item, and even more so to carry out the original decor of the coffee table.

To do this, it is enough to decide what is available, choose the appropriate technique and recharge with determination by studying the proposed ideas. So, here are a few options for your attention to make at least an original interior decoration from an old coffee table, and as a maximum - a work of art.

Types of coffee table decoration:

  • decoupage;
  • mosaic;
  • painting;
  • craquelure.

You can decorate a coffee table:

  • mirrors;
  • shells;
  • wooden blocks.

As they say, there would be a table. Even if it is old, creaky, nondescript, it can be an excellent basis for creating a new creative household item. Let's see how the masters do it.

Decoupage

Decoupage is the application of paper or fabric to a surface. To decorate a coffee table, its surface is pre-primed and polished, and then covered with paint.

A layer of PVA glue is applied to the dried paint layer, and on it:

  • decoupage card (finished parts);
  • a piece of paper napkin (previously freed from the second layer);
  • photos;
  • the cloth;

  • spray paint;
  • sandpaper;
  • mesh tiles - mosaic;
  • glue;

Your attention - contrasts when decorating a coffee table with your own hands: a red star on a white background.

For this we need:

  • white and red paint;
  • paper stencil;

  • box-base made of chipboard;
  • silver (paint in a spray can);
  • mirrors;

  • plywood (sheet thickness - 2-3 cm);
  • thick glass (at least 1 cm);
  • thick and thin bamboo sticks;
  • twine (2-3 m);
  • silicone gaskets;

To do this, the surface is coated with glue, they wait until it dries, a veneer sheet is laid, a white sheet of paper is placed on top, and a hot iron is already carried out on top. It is important to prevent the veneer from swelling, and in the event of bubbles appearing, get rid of them correctly. To do this, a small hole is made in the bubble with a needle through which excess air or glue is expelled. Then this place is additionally processed with an iron. After the veneer is applied, the edges are neatly trimmed and sanded. The last stage is varnishing the product.

The decor of coffee tables, the photos of which we have shown you, are quite accessible even for a novice master. A few trial lessons and we're sure your coffee table will turn out even better!
