DIY brushcutter gear repair. DIY petrol brush repair: breakdowns and methods of their elimination

The benzokos is one of the most important tools for summer residents, and indeed for owners of private houses. The main purpose of this unit is to mow the grass in the garden, turning it into a beautiful, soft, ideal lawn. But before you start working, the device needs to be lubricated, that is, those parts that rub against each other in it, it is also necessary to replace the cutting parts, and pour fuel into the tank. If problems with the engine are identified, it is necessary to repair the petrol brush with your own hands, and for this you need to thoroughly understand its structure and the essence of its functioning. This is all, as a rule, set out in the owner's manual, which is attached when you purchase a chainsaw.

How to repair a petrol cutter if the engine does not start

In this case, check if there is fuel in the tank. Be sure to use only high-quality A-92 gasoline for your device so that it does not break and will serve you for a long time. You can buy fuel at any gas station. For example, in the same place where you refuel your car. If you save money and buy cheap fuel, as a result, the cylinder-piston group can be broken, and its repair is very expensive for mower owners! It can make up a whole third of the total unit price. It is also very important that the oil / gasoline mixture is properly prepared. The unit user manual must indicate the proportions in which this mixture should be prepared. Do not use too much fuel mixture. The thing is that if you store it in this form for a long time, it will lose most of its properties. Therefore, fill the brushcutter with fresh mixtures.

The mower may need to be repaired if the fuel filter is dirty and the engine will not work properly. If you find a problem with starting, check the condition of the fuel filter. If necessary, it should be replaced. The inlet connections must never be without a fuel filter!

The air filter also needs to be checked. If it is too dirty, it must be removed, flushed with fuel and reinstalled. If you are at home or at your own dacha, this filter, of course, is washed with water, you can even use detergents. Next, the filter must be rinsed well, squeezed out and dried. When it is dry, it should be slightly moistened with the oil that you use to prepare the fuel mixture. If you have applied too much oil, it is not scary, the excess can be removed by squeezing the filter well with your hands, as if squeezing. The removed cover must be replaced and reattached.

The engine may not start if all of the above methods are checked and followed. In this case, it is worth adjusting the idle speed while tightening the carburetor screw. In the video about repairing petrol cutters, the essence of these procedures is described in more detail.

And so, we will tell you about the ways to start the device, if you already need to perform work!

1. Repair of the carburetor petrol cutters. Place the unit on one side with the air filter pointing up. If this is how the unit is positioned, the mixture enters the carburetor (or rather its bottom). Before starting the engine, remove the air filter, then pour literally a little mixture into the carburetor, and then reinstall the parts. In this case, the engine will literally start very quickly.

2. If the 1st option still does not work, then the essence of the breakdown lies in the candles. They should be checked by unscrewing how efficient they are. Dry the combustion chamber thoroughly. And a candle that does not show any sign of working capacity must be replaced.

3. This method is also possible. It is necessary to close the air damper and pull the handle once. After that, you need to open the damper and pull the starter a couple of times. This must be repeated up to 5 times.

Some people pull the handle so hard, as a result, it is necessary to repair the starter of the petrol cutter.

Be sure, most importantly, to strictly follow the rules written in the user manual for the device, which is attached to each unit, when buying in a store. And then you will not be afraid of either the repair of the gas cutter gearbox, or any other types of breakdowns!

One of the main gardening tools in the garden or in the country is a petrol cutter or trimmer. Gardeners use this tool for mowing grass, weed control, lawn mowing. Like any other tool, the trimmer requires careful maintenance and do-it-yourself routine repairs are required.

Gas cutters design

The trimmer consists of three parts: a gasoline engine, a bar with a shaft inside and a cutting element. The torque is transmitted through the shaft from the motor to the cutting head. In curved bar trimmers, the cable acts as the shaft. The rod itself is attached to the gasoline engine gearbox. There is an engine control on the bar, and a belt can also be attached for convenient use of the trimmer. The cutting element in gas mowers uses a line wound around a trimmer head or a special knife used to trim large weeds.

The main and most complex trimmer unit is the engine. In household and semi-professional brushcutters, two types of engines are used - 2-stroke or 4-stroke. Depending on the type of gasoline engine, its filling and maintenance are different.

  • 2-stroke engines do not have their own lubrication system, so they do not run on pure gasoline, but on a mixture of gasoline and oil. The latter, entering the combustion chamber, lubricates the moving components of the engine.
  • 4-stroke engines are lubricated with oil in the crankcase. They run on pure gasoline without impurities.

Do-it-yourself petrol brush repair and trimmer maintenance can be done without outside help. If you need to replace spare parts for the motor or adjust it, then you need to contact a repair shop.

First launch at the beginning of the season

In late spring, when the active use of gas mowers begins, before starting work, you need to make an inspection and check on the performance of your tool. It is imperative to lubricate the rotating parts, inspect and, if necessary, replace the cutting elements (knife or fishing line). Check for fuel mixture in the tank. If you drained fuel at the end of the previous season, remember to suck fuel into the engine (if the engine has one).

If you are using a trimmer for the first time, be sure to read the instruction manual. Such instructions must be attached to each brushcutter.

Starting most two-stroke engines is fairly straightforward. Use the procedure outlined in your trimmer's instructions if it differs from the following:

  1. Move the choke lever to the open position. Position the trimmer on its side with the air filter on top.
  2. Hold or lock the throttle in the on position (the throttle should be held until the engine is warmed up).
  3. If the device has an on / off switch, move it to the on position (usually indicated by an "I" rather than an "O").
  4. Use hard, quick jerks with the starter handle until you hear the engine try to start. This should happen between 1-6 jerks, but no more.
  5. Close throttle halfway and restart starter starting. The engine should start after 2-6 additional jerks. If not, move the throttle lever to full position and pull the starter grip again. Return the lever to half the throttle and pull 3 more times.
  6. After starting the engine, continue to hold the start button down and let it warm up for 10 seconds, then disable the starting system.
  7. When the brushcutter warms up, it should restart with the throttle in the closed position.

You can also use another proven trick. If, before starting, you remove the air filter and pour a couple of drops of the mixture into the carburetor and collect it again, the engine should start.

How to repair a petrol cutter if the engine does not start.

Before repairing the petrol cutters with your own hands, you first need to identify the malfunction. First you need to check the filters - both fuel and air. If necessary, the air filter can be washed in gasoline or with water and detergents.

Air filter

After that, the filter is well wrung out and dried. Before installing on the air filter, it is advisable to moisten a couple of drops of oil for 2-stroke engines.
The fuel filter is not rinsed, only replaced.

Note. It is forbidden to leave the inlet branch pipe of the gas line without a filter.

Checking the glow plug.

On a cold engine, remove the high-voltage wire from the spark plug and unscrew it with a special wrench. This key is provided by the manufacturer so that you can easily repair the petrol brush yourself.

photo of twisting the glow plug

First, visually inspect it for contamination, also check if it is flooded with a fuel mixture. If the candle is dirty, clean it with a needle file or iron brush. If the plug is flooded, it must be dried, and the remaining fuel must be drained from the combustion chamber through the plug hole. Be sure to check the spark plug gap - it should be no more than 0.6 mm.

Crack in candle insulation

If cracks are visible on the ceramic part of the candle, be sure to replace the candle.

Spark check.

Insert the high voltage wire into the removed plug and press the metal part of the plug against the engine body. This may be difficult to do as the plastic cover usually covers the engine and the candles are difficult to access the metal housing. You can use a bolt or something else to make contact of the spark plug with the body. Turn on the trimmer and pull on the starter cord. This can be difficult to do alone, so find a reliable assistant to help you repair your petrol cutter!

Spark test

The spark should be blue. If you find it difficult to see a spark in bright sunlight, move the trimmer to a shade or indoors. If there is no spark, try replacing the spark plug or high voltage wire. If this does not help, you should contact the repair shop.

What to do if the trimmer starts up and stalls.

Check the fuel tank air valve. If the valve is clogged, a vacuum is created in the tank and the carburetor receives less fuel. The trimmer will start, but then stall. Clean the valve. You can also start a petrol cutter with a tank cap that is not completely screwed on. Check fuel and air filter.

The brushcutter can also run unevenly or stall due to a poorly adjusted carburetor. How do you know if it's a carburetor? - uneven engine operation or vibration during its operation. There may be a couple of problems here:

  • Poor idle speed adjustment
  • Modified fuel mixture
  • The carburetor adjusting bolts are loose due to vibration

Carburetor adjustment must be carried out with clean fuel and air filters and always according to the instructions that come with the trimmer.
A properly adjusted engine is considered when:

  • A cold engine runs smoothly at idle speed.
  • A hot engine runs at low idle rpm.
  • The engine runs evenly in any position.

Be sure to check the fuel line for cracks, leaks, physical damage. If any are found, the fuel hose must be replaced immediately.

Cleaning the mesh in the muffler

The exhaust muffler is equipped with a grid - anti-spark shield. Over time, this screen clogs up, building up soot from burnt oil and reducing engine power output. This problem can be solved by cleaning the mesh with an old toothbrush, compressed air, or a small wire brush.

Screen mesh cleaning

As you can see, repairing petrol cutters with your own hands is not such a difficult matter and many will be able to fix most of the faults.

Additional questions about service of petrol cutters

Can I leave the fuel stored in the brushcutter?
No, fuel should not be stored in the unit. If the trimmer will not work for more than 30 days, drain the fuel and start the brushcutter and let it run until the engine stops.

What kind of gasoline should I use?
Most mowers run on 92 octane gasoline. Never use lower octane gasoline or diesel fuel. Try to use freshly bought gasoline and mix it with the recommended 2-stroke oil.

What is the correct spark plug gap?
The spark plug gap on all engines is 0.5 - 0.6 mm.

With frequent, intensive use of the brushcutter, the gearbox may start to warm up or make sounds unusual for its normal operation, for example, grinding. This indicates that the mechanism needs to be lubricated. If this is not done on time, then more serious problems will arise (for example, gears will quickly wear out and need to be replaced), up to jamming. Other breakdowns also occur with the transmission. You can repair and lubricate the gearbox yourself - for this you just need to familiarize yourself with the features of these works and stock up on some of the available tools.

A trimmer gear is a unit that transmits the rotational motion of the motor shaft to a knife or line. It is located at the lower end of the brushcutter bar. The transfer assembly is also designed to reduce the trimmer engine speed.

The mechanism consists, depending on the model of the brushcutter, of several gears rotating at high speed. As a result, they heat up due to strong friction. If there is not enough lubricant, or there is none at all, then the process leads to severe overheating and failure of parts, and, accordingly, the need to carry out complex repairs. To prevent this from happening, the transmission unit should be lubricated in time. The disassembled gearbox is shown in the photo below.

Disassembled gearbox

Gearboxes of modern trimmers of different models from different manufacturers differ from each other in design and size seat... It happens:

  • round;
  • in the form of an asterisk;
  • square.

The most common diameters of round seats are 24, 25.5 and 26 mm.

Brush cutters are equipped with gearboxes with different types of gears:

  • conical;
  • worm;
  • spiroid;
  • cylindrical;
  • planetary;
  • wave;
  • combined.

The drive shaft and gearbox are heavily loaded trimmer assemblies that are subject to significant wear. Between them, movement is transmitted due to the engagement of the teeth of the gears located at different angles to each other. Effectively gear works only if there is no mechanical damage. In this case, the mechanism should not overheat, otherwise it may jam.

Basic gearbox malfunctions and ways to eliminate them

Various breakdowns occur with the gearbox of an electric or gasoline trimmer. The most common of them are presented in the table below. There you can also find the causes of their occurrence and methods of elimination.

Gearbox malfunctionPossible causes of failureRemedy
the transfer unit is very hotuse of an unsuitable (low-quality) lubricant or its absenceyou need to replace or add lubricant
the gears are new and not wornfor running-in, run for a short time without heavy loads with regular stops so that the mechanism has time to cool down
jamming of the shaft during rotation, the appearance of backlash and knockingdestruction or significant wear of any of the bearingsreplace the failed bearing with a new one
the transmission mechanism flies off the brushcutter bar or staggersdamage to its hullit is necessary to replace the part
in some cases, with minor damage with a clamp made of metal, the place is pulled together with a break
not fixed to the pipedocking wearyou can make an insulating tape rewind at the attachment point or change the bar
the output shaft with a knife does not rotate or stops in case of an increase in loadwear of teeth on gears or one of themreplacement of the interacting pair of worn parts is required

Bearings are destroyed due to the use of inappropriate lubricant or due to lack of it. They are also damaged by harsh operating conditions brushcutters and the ingress of foreign material particles (for example, broken metal teeth of mechanical transmissions) due to the fact that the integrity of the anthers is broken.

To remove the bearing, you need to disassemble the gearbox and use special puller. If not, then you can try to do it with a hammer with a guide. In this case, work should be done carefully so as not to damage the seat. It is not recommended to use the preheating method to shoot the bearing. This is due to the fact that the metal can lose the required performance.

If the knife stops rotating under load or does not stop at all, then this is accompanied by an uncharacteristic sound.

Most gearbox problems can be easily fixed by hand. It is recommended to purchase replacement parts "native" designed for the used brushcutter model.

Trimmer Gear Lubrication

Gears must be lubricated regularly in accordance with the recommendations outlined in operating instructions used model. This should also be done if:

  • new gears were installed;
  • atypical sounds emanate from the gearbox during trimmer operation;
  • knives rotate hard.

In addition to the gearbox, the trimmer shaft must also be lubricated regularly. This is the norm for proper care of the device.

With continuous use of the trimmer, the transmission is subjected to stress from grass adhering to the blades, dirt, or due to changes in torque. The lubricant must be selected of high quality in order to extend the life of the gearbox.

Used types of grease

When choosing a lubricant, you must consider the following factors:

  • the degree of adhesion of the composition to the metal of the assembly;
  • product brand;
  • consumption of lubricant by the transmission mechanism.

Well-known manufacturers such as , Stihl, Husqvarna and others, in addition to trimmers, also produce grease for them. These products not only reduce wear, but also protect the gear metal from corrosion. Therefore, for brushcutters from these brands it is better to use their own lubricating products.

If the compound used for lubrication has good adhesion, then it practically does not squeeze out of the gearbox through the gaps.

Different models have different grease consumption. This is largely determined by the intensity of use of the brushcutter and the heating of the transmission mechanism. The lubricant is considered to be sufficient if the temperature of the gear unit during operation does not exceed40 ° C.

By consistency, trimmer lubricants can be:

  • liquid;
  • semi-liquid;
  • solid;
  • plastic.

In terms of composition, the following types of lubricants are in demand:

  • graphitethat significantly reduce friction, as a result of which the rotation of the gears is improved;
  • lithium, which are also an excellent anti-corrosion composition, saturated with additives that increase the wear resistance of the metal without harmful substances;
  • universalcontaining highly refined mineral oils and components that improve performance.

Examples of suitable lubricants are: Champion EP-0, Gear Grease OREGON, Oleo-Mas, Azmol 158, Litol-24. You should also pay attention to the advice of manufacturers on this issue and use the materials they offer. You can buy them at specialized retail outlets.

Gearbox self-lubrication algorithm

To lubricate the transmission mechanism, its preliminary no disassembly needed... A special hole for these purposes is already embedded in the device (it is shown in the photo below). In addition to gears, during lubrication, attention should be paid to the following elements of the mechanism:

  • bearing unit;
  • flywheel and starter coil pawl.

Lubricant injection hole

Fill in oil or add solid lubricant through a grease nipple closed with a screw. In this case, the actions are performed in the following sequence:

  • clean the gearbox housing from dirt and adhering grass, especially carefully the area around the plug so that debris does not get inside the mechanism;
  • using the appropriate tool (it often comes with a trimmer), unscrew the plug;
  • into the open technological hole, the selected lubricant is injected from a tube, or using a syringe, as shown in the photo below;
  • screw the plug into place.

Gear lubrication

When applying grease, you need to rotate the knife so that it is evenly distributed over the teeth of the moving gears.

If for any reason the gearbox needs to be disassembled, then the old lubricant must be completely removed from the entire surface of the gears and the housing, the shaft, and only then use a new one. It is convenient to lubricate the disassembled mechanism with solid compounds.

The whole gear lubrication process is demonstrated in the video:

It is required to lubricate the transmission unit at least once a year, but it is recommended to do this every 20 hours of intensive use of the brushcutter. If the first signs of malfunctions with the mechanism appear, then the lubricant must be added as soon as possible.

How to replace the trimmer gear: the algorithm of actions

To replace the gearbox with a similar part from the same manufacturer, it must first be disassembled and removed from the rod. In this case, they act according to the following algorithm:

  • loosen the tie bolts located under the transmission;
  • using round nose pliers, remove two corkscrew rings;
  • using a puller, pull the bearings from the driven and drive shafts;
  • then the mechanism is assembled, in the reverse order, installing all the parts.

Disassembled transmission mechanism is shown in the photo below.

Disassembled gearbox

If the puller is not at hand, then you can try carefully knock down the bearings... When they are stuck and do not budge at all, you can heat them with an industrial hair dryer (at a temperature of 600 ° C) and remove.

Assembling the transfer assembly is easier than disassembling it. You may only need to tap lightly with a hammer to set the parts in place. After assembly, be sure to check that the driven shaft can be turned by hand.

When there is a need to replace the transfer unit with a non-original part, then take into account them interchangeability... It should be borne in mind:

  • rod diameter (this parameter is often 25.4 or 26 mm);
  • parameters of the drive shaft - the shape of the docking place and the diameter (its common value is 8 mm);
  • option for securing protection.

If the considered parameters match, then it will be possible to install a part from other models.

Timely lubrication of the gearbox will ensure its long-term operation without repairs. In addition, modern materials protect the metal well from corrosion and increase its wear resistance. When choosing, preference should be given to the lubricant recommended by the manufacturer of the trimmer being operated. If it is not possible to acquire such compositions, then the considered or other analogs suitable for their properties should be used. When it is necessary to disassemble the mechanism during repairs, this should be done carefully so as not to damage individual parts.

At first glance, a simple device for mowing grass with a two-stroke engine is fine-tuned. Repair of petrol cutters must be entrusted to a specialist or to study the technique yourself, using the operating instructions. The streamer maintenance is essential. Gearbox lubrication, line replacement, and teeth sharpening can be done on our own.

Gas mowers malfunctions and how to fix them

Any type has a hollow rod, in which a connecting cable is placed between the motor shaft and the lower gearbox, which transfers rotation to the working body with the cutting tool. In the upper part there is a carburetor and a motor, at the bottom - a gearbox and a working tool, covered with a casing. In the middle part there is a transverse handle in which the control buttons are located. To unload the arms, there is an unloading belt that holds the bar with the operator's torso.

When choosing a petrol cutter, a two-stroke engine is preferable to a four-stroke one. The two-stroke engine is more maneuverable and easier to repair. With a four-stroke unit, the vibration level is lower.

They follow this, repair of petrol cutters is to troubleshoot;

  • the engine does not start;
  • the cutting mechanism is not picking up speed;
  • the engine stalls;
  • the reducer is heated;
  • extraneous knocking is heard, strong vibration of the bar.

Before eliminating the malfunction, you need to diagnose, determine the non-working unit.

It is important to know the lubrication points of the tool. Constant care, cleaning the device after work will extend its life. Before work, it is necessary to tighten the fastening bolts, prepare the fuel and fill the tank.

Chainsaw engine won't start

If the mechanism does not start, immediately stalls, check sequentially:

  • is there fuel in the tank;
  • serviceability of the spark plug;
  • cleanliness of the air and fuel filter;
  • the cleanliness of the breather and exhaust port.

It is necessary to fill it with a freshly prepared mixture based on AI-92, the oil is injected for accurate dosage with a medical syringe. This will help you avoid expensive chainsaw repairs.

It is necessary to make sure that the candle is working, giving a spark when it comes into contact with the body. In this case, it is necessary to dry the candle channel, clean and dry the part itself. You can change the candle, but the canal still needs to be dried for 40 minutes. Check the serviceability of the high-voltage wire, there may not always be a contact. A malfunction in the ignition unit when repairing a petrol cutter cannot be eliminated with your own hands.

If, when the air filter is removed, the engine does not stall, the reason is in it - replacement or cleaning is required. Replacing the fuel filter is done with great care. Then check the cleanliness of the breather, remove the muffler mesh and clean the exhaust channel.

The next step will be where you have to find the problem and fix it, taking into account the tiny size of the parts. If the simplest operations have not yielded results, in order not to disrupt the fine tuning of the system, it is better to entrust the repair to a specialist. Where to start diagnostics and how to properly repair petrol cutters with your own hands, check out the video:

Repair and lubrication of the petrol cutter gearbox

The role of the reducer is to transmit the torque from the motor shaft to the cutting tool through 2 gears with different numbers of teeth. The torque is transmitted at an angle of 30 0. The number of revolutions of the lower cutting disc is 1.4 times less than the engine speed. Gears must be clean and lubricated. To supply oil to the teeth, there is a hole under the screw on top.

Lubrication of the petrol cutter gearbox is performed at least once a season. If the work is intensive or there is abnormal noise in the lower unit, it is necessary to lubricate more often.

First, the place where the plug closes the hole should be cleared of soil and grass. Unscrew the plug with a suitable tool, it is included with the saw. We use a grease tube. Either a native lubricant from the manufacturer is selected, or well-known high-quality compounds, such as Oleo-Mas, Litol-24, Azmol 158. We open the protective layer of the tube and lay the instrument on its side. Slowly rotating the knife, squeeze the grease into the gear housing. The gears, turning, carry the composition with teeth over the entire surface. You can also pour grease with a special syringe.

Insufficient or too much lubrication can cause the gear unit to heat up. An audible knock and backlash indicate a broken bearing or dirt from a damaged boot. Bearings must be replaced with a puller, without using the heating method.

If the gearbox staggers and runs on the bar, it is necessary to replace the housing, or temporarily tighten the knot with a clamp to fix it on the pipe. If the knife stops rotating, it means that the gears do not engage - the teeth are worn out or crumbled. A pair will need to be replaced with a complete disassembly of the assembly.

Disassembly of the gearbox with dismantling of the shaft and bearing assemblies must not be carried out by heating. When heated, the metal loses its strength properties and in the future the knot becomes unreliable. A puller is used to remove the bearings.

When replacing a gearbox, it is necessary to select a new unit, guided by:

  • pipe diameter;
  • the diameter of the drive shaft;
  • section of the drive shaft;
  • method of fastening protection

Caring for the cutting units of the petrol cutter

The saw headset dulls or wears out over time. Working with the tool becomes tense, the load increases, and the swath quality deteriorates. Metal saw blades are sharpened, plastic ones are changed.

If a fishing line is used as a cutting tool, it gradually wears out, and new material is installed in the spool. The principle of operation of the line cutter is to gradually unwind the coil under the influence of centrifugal force. On contact with the grass, the fishing line is abraded; it is fed from the reel gradually. A special winding is needed so that two cutting elements come out at the same time and do not get confused with each other.

The illustration shows how to properly wind the line onto the spool. Before winding a new line, you must:

  • unscrewing the nozzle, carefully remove the cover, holding the spring with your hand;
  • remove scraps of old fishing line from the reel;
  • measure 5 meters of a new string and fold it in half;
  • guides in the reel for 2 ends, hook the middle part into the recess and wind in the direction of the arrows for each half of the string;
  • lead the remaining 20 cm through the special notches at the opposite ends of the coil;
  • install the spring and washers, bring the ends of the line out, close the drum with a lid.

In order to better understand how to change the line on a petrol cutter, watch the video.

Replacing the fishing line in the trimmer head of the petrol cutter - video

Trimmer repairs should be done as soon as possible at the first sign of breakage so that minor faults do not lead to more serious problems. All models are characterized by the presence of such main nodes and structural elements: drive system (engine), transmission devices, working part (knife or fishing line), belts and handles. Failure can occur in any part, but some components fail much more often than others.

Motor-cutters that run on gasoline or electricity (as well as different models from different manufacturers) differ in design and nature of the problem. Some of them can be easily eliminated with your own hands, while others will require more overhaul or contacting a service center.

The most common are breakdowns of a petrol brush associated with such structural elements:

  • engine (in particular with a piston system);
  • carburetor;
  • barbell;
  • starter (rope breakage, breakage or spring disengagement);
  • with an ignition or fuel supply system;
  • transmission mechanism (reducer);
  • filters and silencer.

The symptoms are as follows:

  • the appearance of uncharacteristic sounds during operation of the brushcutter;
  • the petrol cutter does not turn on, does not pick up the required speed, or stalls;
  • when the engine is running, the working part does not rotate or slips;
  • gasoline leak;
  • excessive heating of individual units.

Also, minor breakdowns may occur, which are detected without any special diagnostics:

  • sinking of the start button;
  • falloff of the limiter;
  • line breakage or breakage (loss of sharpness) of the knife.

Minor faults are not difficult to fix. Repairing a gasoline trimmer in more difficult cases will require preliminary diagnosis to find out the exact reasons. If you have the appropriate knowledge and skills of locksmith work, then the problems can be eliminated independently by replacing the failed parts.

Disassembly of the gasoline spit, lubrication of its parts and replacement of faulty elements

To disassemble a petrol cutter for repair work, you will need, in general, the following devices:

  • a set of screwdrivers (with different tips) and wrenches;
  • small puller for removing bearings;
  • special candle wrench;
  • a hammer.

In each case, you will need to disassemble individual units.

It should be borne in mind that the starter (launcher) in a number of models is non-separable - in this case, in case of problems with it, only replacement of the element is possible. If the knot is disassembled, it can be repaired by removing and replacing the rope and spring, or reinstalling the latter (when it is disengaged).

Parsing and replacing the rod

It is quite common to repair the trimmer bar. It is a construction of the following parts:

  • a drive shaft made of steel, having polyhedral or square splines at the upper and lower ends;
  • aluminum tubes;
  • a plastic sleeve designed to maintain the centralized position of the drive shaft in the tube (so that there are no vibrations);
  • a rubber shock absorber needed to connect the rod to the motor;
  • steering wheel with a handle used for steering and a rack, a belt.

On some models, a shock absorber is provided between the steering column and the boom. All control elements (lock lever, ignition switch, gas button) are located on the handle.

A bevel gearbox is attached to the lower end of the boom, but some light models are available without it. This is due to the fact that the bar has a curved shape, and the shaft is a flexible cable.

How to disassemble the rod and then assemble it to lubricate the shaft or replace it is shown in detail in the video below. In the same way, replace the broken bar with a new one.

It often happens that the polyhedral or square splines of the drive shaft "lick", while the working mechanism does not rotate or does it with a slip. Then the shaft is changed.

When appears knock on the phone, you should disassemble the rod and check the condition of the bushing, and, if necessary, replace it. How to properly assemble the throttle handle on the trim is discussed in the video below.

If the rod is not intact, suitable for installation, then you can tighten the place of the break with a clamp or impose a kind of tire. This is a temporary measure and should be replaced as soon as possible.

Clutch repair

When a knife or fishing line, when the engine is idling, almost constantly turns, and uncharacteristic sounds emanate from the front of the engine, this indicates a breakdown of the clutch. A broken spring is the cause. In this case, the technique mows normally.

If slipping occurs, then in addition the pads are worn out.

The trimmer clutch is repaired as follows:

  • remove the cover from the muffler;
  • remove the metal stand;
  • then remove the cylinder and starter caps to gain access to the clutch;
  • unscrew the side screws to remove the shock absorber cover;
  • remove the tube from it, after letting the tightening bolts;
  • unwind the clutch (shown in the photo below);

  • inspect the condition of the spring, pads and bearings;
  • the new spring is hooked by threading the hooks into the corresponding holes;
  • to replace the pads, you need to remove the spring, and then unscrew the bolts on them.

If necessary lock the crankshaft using, for example, a rope.

Repairing a gasoline engine, carburetor and gearbox

Engine problems can be caused by problems with the piston system, oil seals, rings. To eliminate them, you need remove the drive motor.

Determining what exactly caused the breakdown is not easy. If there is a guarantee, the mechanism should be taken to a service center for diagnostics and repair. If it is not possible to turn to specialists for help, then it should be borne in mind that replacement of piston rings is most often required. To do this, you need to disassemble the engine, get the piston. This is done in the following sequence:

  • remove the cover of the plastic case by unscrewing the screws or wringing out the clamps;
  • disconnect the bar with the crankshaft;
  • remove the cylinder head;
  • take out the piston and rings;
  • if necessary, replace them;
  • assemble in reverse order.

The rings should be installed carefully because they are fragile.

How the piston is placed and what happens replacement of oil seals when repairing the engine, it is clearly shown in the videos below:

With regular use, the brushcutter can break down gear... Gears and bearings wear out in it (they can also break). To prevent this from happening often, this unit should be regularly lubricated. The frequency is almost always indicated in the operating instructions for the model used (at least once a season). The video below can serve as a repair manual.

To lubricate the gearbox, you should unscrew the plug and simply squeeze out a suitable lubricant inside the unit, turning the shaft.

The carburetor can only be removed and cleaned on your own, and the gasket between it and the engine can be replaced. It is rather problematic to determine the tightness of the assembly at home. The main thing is to correctly assemble the equipment after repair so that the trimmer works without problems.

Common malfunctions of electric trimmers

Electric trimmers differ from gasoline devices in a more simplified design. Conventionally, the electric braid is divided into mechanical and electrical part... Accordingly, the same groups of problems that occur with this equipment are distinguished.

Most breakdowns cannot be visually detected. To do this, you need to use various devices. You can visually determine the following:

  • the integrity of the power cable is broken (insulation has been torn from it, or it is clearly broken);
  • sinking or jamming of the start button;
  • external mechanical damage to the brushcutter;
  • problems with the cutting part;
  • stopping the spit when clogging with grass;
  • damage to the plug.

To find out which part has broken in other cases, you will need to disassemble the electric brace and consistently check the most likely options. At the same time, attention is paid to the external manifestations of deviations from the normal operation of the device. They help to establish the cause.

Repairing an electric trimmer will require the following devices and tools:

  • indicator screwdrivers;
  • multimeter or tester;
  • soldering iron;
  • a set of keys;
  • screwdrivers with different nozzles.

Electric streamers often do not work due to reasons not directly related to them, but caused by a decrease in the supply voltage in the network or an inoperative state of the outlet used.

How to disassemble and repair an electric scythe yourself

Before disassembling and repairing the electric braid, check the condition of the outlet and the voltage in the network. If its value deviates from the norms specified in the operating instructions, then you should not even try to operate the device without stabilizerrated for the corresponding power. Otherwise, the motor may be damaged. Only after determining that the cause of the trimmer failure is directly related to it, you can begin to analyze the mechanism for repair purposes.

Disassembly and repair of electrical parts

Disassembly of the electric scythe in order to repair its electrical part is carried out in the following sequence.

The brush and bearing units are shown in the photo below.

The braid will work and without thermostat, you just need to constantly independently check the temperature of the electric motor, periodically letting it cool down. You can also install a new similar sensor.

The start button of the electric motor can be checked by closing a jumper of its contacts... If the trimmer works, then the problem is clear. But this option is not safe. Everything should be done carefully so as not to get an electric shock. To change the button, you should use a screwdriver to remove it from the seat and connect the wires from the old to the new one. After replacement, you need to assemble the electric brace, and then check its performance.

Replacing brushes required if they collapse. In this case, pull out the old ones from the grooves, and install the new ones in their place.

The connection terminals on different trimmer models are almost identical, so the connection and disconnection of the wires is the same.

Bearing replacement is a rather difficult operation, because it can stick and not be removed from the motor shaft. Pull or knock it down carefully to avoid damaging the rotor or seat.

When the trimmer motor fails and needs to be replaced with a new one, carefully remove the fan and bearings and then reinstall them. In terms of costs, replacement is almost comparable to purchasing a new mechanism. In the absence of experience in working with electric motors, it is better to entrust it to specialists.

Assembling electric braids

Instructions for assembling the electrical part of the brushcutter are as follows:

  • install the engine by tightening the mounting screws;
  • connect an electrical circuit;
  • lay the wires neatly between the individual compartments in the existing recesses;
  • close the top cover by snapping the locks and screwing it in.

After assembly, the operability of the device is checked.

There are a lot of possible breakdowns in gasoline and electric trimmers. For the device to work for a long time, it must be kept clean and dry. An important point is carrying out regular preventive measures (e.g. lubrication of the gearbox) and the observance of the operating rules stated in the instructions for the device. Purchase equipment of better quality from well-known manufacturers.

When disassembling the mechanism, it is recommended to photograph the process in stages so as not to forget anything, and not to miss a single detail during assembly. When replacing parts, pay attention to the selection of suitable accessories: it is better to use original spare parts.

In some models, the rod consists of two parts - a coupling is used to connect them. Such devices are convenient for transportation.
