How to find out the WIFI password on the computer? Where the password is written on the router. Where is the Wi-Fi password, IP address, MAC address, login and password written on the router

) can be found not only in offices, but also in the homes of ordinary PC users. These little helpers allow you to provide Internet access to a wide variety of devices, from mobile phones to laptops and tablets. But, sometimes they can create trouble. Lost password is one of the common problems. Even I once forgot my router password.

If you lose your router password, you completely lose control over it. In such a situation, it becomes impossible to fully use the capabilities of the device.

If you are also overtaken by such a nuisance, then in this article you can find all possible solutions to this problem.

Standard password

First, you need to remember if the default password has been changed to. If you used a standard password, it is easy to find it on the Internet. To do this, you need to enter into the search about the following phrase "router name + standard password". In most cases, the following combinations of username and password are used to access the router:

  • Login: admin, password: admin;
  • Login: admin password: empty string (no password, only login);
  • Login: admin, password: 1234;
  • Login: admin, password: 12345;
  • Login: admin, password: password;

Also for some models of routers, the standard password is indicated on the bottom of the device. Just flip the router over and look at the sticker.

Reset

If the standard password does not work, it means that you have changed it. In this case, all that remains is a complete reset of the router to the factory settings. After this procedure, the router will return to the standard login and password. And we have already figured out how to find the standard password.

In order to find the RESET button on the router case. Typically, this button is located on the back of the device, near the cable connectors. This button is small and deeply recessed into the body of the device. Therefore, in order to press it, you will need to use a paper clip or other thin and long object.

RESET button for factory reset

The disadvantage of such a reset is that the router completely reverts to factory settings. After the reset, you will have to re-configure it.

The situation when users seem to be commonplace. It seems that it is not necessary for the constant operation of one device, but to connect a new one you will need an access point. One user writes personal data on a piece of paper, then throws it away as unnecessary, another specifically uses well-remembered alphanumeric values. And after a while, uncomplicated combinations are erased from human memory. At such moments, pressing questions arise: how to find out the password from your home wifi router, how to recover the password, how difficult it is and where to find it.

It should be noted that the problem with forgotten keys is a widespread phenomenon, so the ability to access it is taken into account by system software developers. Knowing the required algorithm, it is easy to solve the problem.

There are dozens of ways represented by tools in the router itself and the PC operating system. Possibilities are known in the form of various programs, applications, as well as with the help of devices, thanks to which it is not difficult to find out the password from the "Wi-Fi".

How to find out the password from wifi through a computer

As in the settings of the router, you can find out the password for wi fi on the PC using the functionality of its operating system. It takes into account the fact that in each version the principles and sequence of actions are different, with the exception of Windows 7 and Windows 8, where they are of the same type:

  • Right click on the "Network" icon to open the context menu.

  • The item "Network and Sharing Center" is selected.

  • Opens "Wireless Network Management".

  • Right click on the name of the required network in the list provided.
  • In the window that opens, select the "Properties" section.

  • In a new window, go to "Security", where check the item "Display entered characters". Forgotten data will be displayed immediately in the field opposite "Network Security Key".

Everything happens a little differently on Windows 10:

  • Call the context menu by right-clicking on the "Network" icon.
  • Select "Network and Internet Settings".
  • Left-click on the "Show available networks" section to open the list.
  • Select the network of interest from the list provided.
  • Go to the tabs "Wireless Network Properties" - "Security Settings".

  • Further - on Windows 10 - everything is the same as on previous versions.

The same steps as on a PC are taken on a laptop, the algorithm of actions is no different.

Windows XP

As for older versions of Windows, things are a little more complicated, but doable. It will be easy to recover a forgotten password. On Windows XP, the sequence is different, but the principle remains the same, namely:

  • Open "Control Panel".

  • Select the "Wireless Network Wizard" section.

  • Move forward through the start screen tabs.

  • Select the item "Add a new computer".
  • Click on "Self-select network" - "Next".
  • In the window that opens, select the "Print network settings" section.

  • The required information will appear in the line opposite the Network Key item.

Sometimes the key is not displayed in the operating system settings, despite the exact execution of the actions. The most common reason is that Wi-Fi is not configured on your computer. It doesn't hurt to first make sure the device is connected.

Through the web interface of the router

It is quite easy to recover the password from "Wi-Fi" in the settings of the router, you just need to use its IP-address. And the hint is provided by the router itself: the address is contained on a tag pasted in
its bottom. If the entry is overwritten or illegible, you need to use the instructions for the router, which contains the password for entering the settings, the sequence of actions, how to view the password for connecting to the wi fi network lost by the user. Then all actions take place as follows:

  • The router connects to the computer using a network cable.
  • In the address bar of the browser, the IP address is entered, consisting of eight numbers and three dots.
  • The data for access to the settings page is entered: admin and admin by default.
  • Go between the tabs “Wireless” - “Wireless Security”, the password is written in the column opposite “PSK Password”.

The method is simple and productive, but only if the standard data has not changed. Otherwise, another one will be added to the question of how to find out the password from your wifi router: how to find out the password for accessing its settings.

How to find out the password from wifi on the phone

This problem is also relevant in the case of using the mobile Internet. It occurs much more often on the phone than on the computer. The explanation is simple: phones are frequently changed gadgets. Connecting "Wi-Fi" on a brand new purchase, it turns out that the password is hopelessly forgotten. The main problem here is that the owner of the phone has never connected to a home router, which means that the access point is much more difficult to find. But even here the problem is not serious: the functionality of the new devices provides for similar nuances, and the menu items contain many tools. In addition, the RootBrowser application comes to the rescue.

Step-by-step instruction:

  • First of all, you need to download and install it on your android phone.
  • Launch by clicking on the browser icon.
  • Go to the "Data" folder, go to the "Misc" directory.

  • In the list that opens, select the "Wifi" direction.
  • Find the file "wpa_supplicant.conf" and open it in any convenient text editor.

The storage contains information concerning all Wi-Fi points to which the phone has ever been connected. To find out the forgotten password, you need to find the access point, it is in the "psk" line.

Additional access programs

In addition to the standard solutions to this issue, there are other possibilities of how to find out your wifi password. All sorts of programs, utilities and add-ons have been created for this purpose. The principle of their work is the ability to find the networks to which the computer is connected, or other devices. Not all of them do the same job, but some are worth paying attention to.

WiFi Password Decryptor

Simple, reliable and multifunctional program that can recover account password, decrypt, save. Main advantages:

  • Ease of use, clear interface, navigation system.
  • The ability to recover types of passwords and keys of a wireless account.
  • High speed of data processing in decryption and recovery.
  • Easy to copy passwords: one key press.
  • Extensive functionality in sorting and ordering the displayed keys.
  • Protection of personal data in any format.

The principle of the program is extremely simple: after it is downloaded and installed, you need to open it, a list of Wi-Fi networks will appear, then just click on the desired network (Ssid) and the Key password (Ascii) will immediately open.

Wireless Key View

One of the recognized programs of this direction, which has a large number of useful tools, although in terms of functionality it is slightly inferior to the previous one. Basic qualities:

  • Compactness, light weight, does not require installation.
  • Work on the basis of all operating systems.
  • The ability to recover all types of keys for wireless devices.
  • The ability to independently save passwords in any format, send them to the clipboard.

In order to download the program, you must first download the archive, unzip it and save it in a folder or on a USB flash drive, but you can install it if you wish. In this case, it is worth removing all the checkmarks except for the agreement. The program is in English, but it is quite easy to understand it. To recover the password, open by clicking on the shortcut, click "Start Recovery", find the desired network and see "Password Key".

A handy and free utility with great potential in finding and recovering lost and forgotten keys used for wireless devices, but with limited functionality. Positive characteristics:

  • Scans instantly, displays data of networks available for connection.
  • Automatically saves passwords in text format, sends them to the clipboard.
  • Represents the encryption methods and vulnerabilities of the connected network.
  • Has the ability to reset passwords and replace them with new ones.

After downloading, run the "WiFi Password Revealer Installer" file, select the language and install the utility. Launch it by clicking on the icon, select the desired network in the list that opens, click on the plus sign next to the name. Where Password is the network key.

Other recovery methods

It is easier to recover a lost password using applications, the same is on a computer and a router, more difficult - on a laptop and a phone, but there are other ways. These are special devices and applications, such as Wi-Fi Box Network Unlocker. They automatically find wireless networks available for connection, read information from them, and guess the key regardless of where and how the password is written. This method is reliable, productive, but devices work on the principle of hacking, on an illegal basis, and therefore their use is illegal.

Resetting and setting a new password

It happens that none of these methods brings positive results, and the question of how to find out a forgotten password on wi fi, on a computer and, accordingly, how to connect the device to the network, remains open. This happens due to user actions. For example, I changed the username and password for accessing the router settings, but forgot the data. It is clear that without access, change is impossible, in this case you need to change the password or reset the settings. For this on the back
press the "Hardware reset" button, after which the device will return to factory settings. Next, configure in a new way, for this:

  • Go to the "System" section.
  • Select the "Administrator password" item.
  • Click on it, in the line that opens, double-type a new password for accessing the settings.

Set the password for access to the wifi network:

  • Follow the links "Password" - "Security settings".
  • In the window that opens, enter a new password, save and, preferably, write it down.

Conclusion

There are many ways to recover long-lost personal data. It is impossible to call them difficult, and therefore there is no need to turn to someone for help, everything is done independently. And no problem, if you forgot your wifi password, it can be restored or changed at any time and without effort.

XXI century is the time of information technologies. Watching a football match in real time, chatting with friends and relatives without leaving home, even if they are thousands of kilometers away, making purchases lying on the couch, studying at the university remotely - all this has become possible in our time. All you need is a computer and Internet access.

Nowadays, even at home it is not difficult to create a small network of several computers connected to the Internet. After all, every family member wants to use the Internet. This special device - a router (router) will help to do this, thanks to which you can connect several computers, tablets, smartphones, etc. to the network at once.

In order to enter the web interface of the device, you need to enter the password that was set by the manufacturer, customizer or personally by the user. But there are times when the user has forgotten the password from the router. How to be in such a situation?

If no one changed the factory settings, you can try to enter the standard login admin, password password or login admin, password admin. Typically, it is this login modification that is installed by the router manufacturers. If nothing comes out, a user who has forgotten the password for the router can turn to the Internet for help and find information on the network. There are sites where you can find information about default passwords for routers from different manufacturers.

If the router was installed by the customizer, then it is possible that during installation it used the serial number of the product as a password. In this case, you should find the data in the user manual or on the packaging box. On some models, the number may be printed on a sticker on the device itself. A user who has forgotten the password for the router, in this case, can easily solve the problem.

If none of these options is suitable, there is only one way out - reset. But in this case, remember that the reset will delete all user settings. This means that you will have to spend some time trying to restore them. But in the end, a user who has forgotten the password from the router will be able to enter the device management system and, having reconfigured the network, enter a new username and password that he comes up with and use the router.

And now, in detail about how to do this:

Find the "Reset" button on the device and click on it. As a rule, it looks like a small indentation on the panel (this so that you cannot press it accidentally). After pressing this button, not only the login and password are reset, but also everything to the factory data;

Enter the control system under the factory login and password (as a rule, login admin, password password or login admin, password admin) and enter a new login and password;

Connect the device to the Internet and reconfigure it.

In the end, I would like to wish all those who have forgotten the router password to write down the new data and keep the record in a safe place.

When I am asked in the comments the question “ I forgot my WiFi router password, what should I do, how do I find out and recover?“Then I am always at a loss as to what exactly the reader had in mind - to connect to a wireless network or to enter the router's admin panel? I will try to meet the expectations of everyone who came to this page and needs help - we will analyze both cases in detail.

Ways to recover a password from a WiFi network of a router

But the problem of recovering a Wi-Fi password was, is and will always be relevant as long as this type of wireless connection exists. Well, indeed, we introduce it once and forget about it forever. In the meantime, any reinstallation of Windows or even just changing the network adapter leads to the fact that you cannot access the Internet. We will deal with this issue in this article.

In a situation where you want to connect a gadget to the wireless network, but forgot the key to the Wi-Fi, there are several ways to recover your password:

  • via computer
  • telephone
  • or on the router itself

First of all, you need to understand that all passwords that have ever been entered to connect to wifi are stored inside the operating system of a computer or smartphone - Windows, Android or iOS - does not matter. They are always in one of the system files. Therefore, you can see the key to the Wi-Fi without using a router. To do this, you just need to install a small program and see. How to do this for each operating system, I made a separate article, the links to which were given above.

How do I find out the password for my Wi-Fi on the router?

The easiest way to recover a forgotten password from your own WiFi connection is to view it in the settings in the router's control panel.

However, it is worth noting that if we are talking about connecting to a public network outside the home, then access to the administrator section is, of course, closed. Therefore, if this is exactly your case, then I recommend reading the solution options without access to the router - the links to them were above.

If you have forgotten the password for your home network, and you have access to the router, then you must:

  1. Connect the router to the computer using a twisted pair cable
  2. Go to its settings
  3. View Wi-Fi password in the appropriate section.

Let's go through each item in more detail. It is necessary to connect to the router via cable so that the PC or laptop automatically receives an IP address from it and ends up in the same local network.

Unfortunately, the phone is not suitable for this purpose. So we take the Ethernet wire - it usually lies in the box with the device - and insert it with one end into the computer's network card, and the other into the LAN connector on the router.

We also check that the boxes for automatically obtaining IP and DNS servers are checked in the Windows network connection settings.

After that, we will be able to type in the address of the router and enter the control panel. It is done differently in each router. How to do this has already been described many times in our other publications separately for each model, I recommend that you familiarize yourself with them if you do not know how to get into this hidden section.

But for your convenience, I have created several similar articles for each individual router - links to them are below:

How to Find WiFi Password on Windows 10 Computer?

We pass to the second way to find out the password from wifi - on the computer itself with the operating system installed on it Windows 7, 8 or 10... There are also several solutions here, but in this article we will consider the two most reliable ways to find out the WiFi password using a computer:

  • through the program
  • built-in Windows

Wireless Key View for Windows 7 and 8

If you have already connected to a network at least once, the password for which you need to remember, then it is not necessary to hack it with the help of some kind of left-handed programs. There is a very good free utility that fishes the password once entered from the bowels of the Windows operating system. It is called Wireless Key View - you can download it here. This program works with any, even the most complex, type of WPA / PSK encryption and, most importantly, with any version of Windows - 10, 8, 7 and even XP.

Download and run as administrator - no installation required. After a short wait, the program will find all the keys to the networks to which the computer has ever been connected using standard Windows applications (Wireless Zero Configuration in Windows XP and WLAN AutoConfig in versions above). In short, if you did not use any third-party applications to connect, then there is everything.

After that we save them in a separate text file and find the one that you need at the moment. After that, remember it, or you can change and put a new password on wifi, which you can easily remember.

How to find out the Wi-Fi password with the built-in tools of Windows 10?

If there is no way to install a separate program, then you will have to go a more complicated way. Fortunately, Windows 10 has a built-in ability to recover a forgotten authorization key.

Click on the network connection icon in the lower right corner of the screen and go to "Open Network and Internet Settings"

A new window will open, where we switch to the "Security" tab and put a check mark on "Show entered characters"

That's all - the current WiFi password is now displayed in front of us - write it down and don't lose it again!

How to Recover WiFi Password on Phone?

Now let's imagine one typical situation - you somewhere in some place got hold of a password for a WiFi connection - for example, from a neighbor 😉 Connect your phone or tablet to it and easily use the Internet. After some time, it became necessary to connect a laptop to it, but of course, the key has long been safely forgotten - what to do and how to find out the password for wifi on your phone?

QR code

We start to randomly rummage through the phone's settings to find this password - but to no avail, since it simply isn't there.

Of course, we do not have access to the router either.

Next, we take another smartphone to which the settings will be transferred. A program for reading QR codes should already be installed on it in advance - now you have no WiFi on it. Or you need to connect to the Internet through a mobile operator via 3g / 4g. And the program is called QR Code Reader - it is available in both the AppStore and PlayMarket.

We launch this application and point the camera at the smartphone screen with a code with settings from WiFi.

A few moments and the program reads the data about the network and after confirmation will immediately connect to it.

If you want to transfer password data from the iPhone, then there is no way to generate such a code in the standard firmware properties. In order to create it, you will need to buy the Qrafter application for a small amount - in the free version it can only read, in the paid version it can also create.

From files on your phone

If you are using an Android device, there is another way to find out the saved passwords from WiFi. As you know, the system stores all its data in the form of files - and passwords too. And they are in the file

/data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf

The only "but" - you will get access to this file only with root access to the phone.
You can open wpa_supplicant.conf through a text editor by connecting your phone via USB to your computer. This is the content he will provide us with:

These are the names, passwords and types of encryption from all networks stored in the device.

WiFi Key Recovery App

There is also a simpler way to find out this data - install a free program WiFi Key Recovery or its equivalent WiFI Key Password, which also requires root rights.

Its convenience is that you do not need to rummage in system files - after starting the utility will simply show the contents of the same file on the screen.

These are some simple tricks with which anyone can quickly find out the password for connecting to a wifi router, having only his own smartphone in his hands. Use!

How to recover the password from the control panel of the router?

It is known that in order to set up an Internet connection for any router, be it TP-Link, D-Link, Asus, Zyxel Keenetic or something else, it does not matter, you either need to insert the supplied installation CD and make step-by-step configuration via application, or go to its administrator part through a browser. But what if the disk has been lost for a long time, and the user forgot the password from the router to access the admin panel? How can I change it and put my own?

Or, for example, another situation that often happens when you take an old router that has been lying on the shelf for a couple of years, and there are no instructions for it, no stickers, or any other information. How, in this case, can you find out, log into the router and change the password?

There are several ways to recover a forgotten password. Most often, during the initial setup, users leave the authorization data that was set on the default router. Therefore, you can do the following:

  • View it in the user manual
  • Look at the sticker on the router
  • Find out from the site-catalog of data for authorization by model number

However, a more competent user would still change the password for a router to a more reliable one. In addition, more and more firmware on modern models is made in such a way that during the initial configuration, the key is forced to change without fail. Therefore, you will have to do and roll it back to.

Be careful - this will reset all network and Internet parameters!

To do this, take some sharp object, such as a pin, and find a small recessed "Reset" button on the body. Click on it when the router is connected to the network and wait 15-20 seconds.

Then we will try to get into the admin panel.

I hope you succeeded. If not, then ask your questions in the comments, let's try to figure out each individual situation. And do not forget your router passwords anymore!

If the article helped, then in gratitude I ask you to do 3 simple things:
  1. Subscribe to our YouTube channel
  2. Send a link to the publication to your wall on a social network using the button above

Before any settings or password recovery from the router, you need to access it. To do this, you need to connect it to your computer. This can be done in two ways: via Wi-Fi and via an Ethernet cable, directly. They are both the same, this is a matter of convenience.

After directly connecting, you can open the settings. A browser is usually used to change the settings of routers. Often, manufacturers of wifi routers write in the instructions which browser is preferable for working with their device. The point here is that the content of the pages is displayed differently in different browsers, but at the moment any modern browser, for example, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, IE, Microsoft Edge, and so on, will do. To access the settings, you need to enter a special address in the browser line. It can be different for different manufacturers and usually this address is indicated in the instructions for the wifi router. Most often this is http://192.168.1.1/ or http://192.168.0.1/. Also for TP-LINK routers this address can be http://tplinklogin.net/. When you click on these links, an authentication window will appear.

Trying to enter a standard login: admin password: admin... Also, the password may differ from the standard, be equal to 1234 , empty or can be specified on the router itself. If nothing fits, then it may have been changed. In this case, consider the options for restoring access to the settings below.

Router password recovery methods

There are a lot of ways of how to find out the password from the router or recover it. All of them differ in their complexity and duration of performance. Below are three of the simplest options for different situations. One of them will definitely help to restore access to the router.

Standard password

This method is suitable for situations in which the user set up the router himself, without changing the password for administrator access. This is the easiest option, but not suitable in all situations.

If the password has not been changed, then it is the original one from the router. It's not scary to forget it, but you can see it in the instructions from the device. It will be located in the section with the router. If the instructions are lost, then the standard password can be easily found on the Internet. But for this you need to know the manufacturer of the router.

It is usually indicated on the front or top. You can also see it on the router access page, where it is highlighted in color or in bold. The most popular manufacturers are D-Link, TP-LINK, ZyXEL and Asus. However, there are others.

After finding the manufacturer, you can search for the password. In any search engine, enter the query "standard password from the router", and at the end insert the name. The first links will contain the necessary information. Most often, the password for the administrator will be admin or "1234", or an empty string. However, some manufacturers have other variations as well.

Another password from the router can be indicated on its back side along with the marking.

The picture shows the registration data from the TP-LINK router. On other models, the markings will be similar. You need to look for the inscription Password or "Password".

Router from provider

This method is suitable for situations when the router was ordered from an Internet provider and configured by him. Wizards change standard passwords to more complex ones. This is done so that attackers cannot remotely hack the router.

If changed, the password is additionally marked on the router. This is usually a special sticker on the back or bottom. It contains the password for the Wi-Fi network and information for entering the settings menu as an administrator. In some situations, all information may be specified in the contract for obtaining a router from the provider. You can also find out the password by phone. But what if you forgot the password from the wifi router and the options above did not work? In this case, we are trying the third option.

Full factory reset

If other methods did not work or it is impossible to do them, then a complete reset of the Wi-Fi router settings will help. It is important to note that this is an extreme option, but very simple. You can resort to it only if there is a printout with the Internet access settings, since they will be reset too. Otherwise, you will have to call a specialist to restore them himself.

Also, the settings can be viewed from the user account, usually he is registered without a password. Instructions for opening the login page are described in the section above. Now you can log in as a user, to do this, select the appropriate login from the list or write User in the login line, leave the password field blank.

Now you need to find the Internet connection settings. For a D-Link Wi-Fi router, their section is shown in a pink frame in the picture. All data from IP to MAC address must be recorded. They will be needed to restore access to the Internet from the router.

Now you can proceed to factory reset. There is a special hole on the back of the router. It is indicated by the words Reset or Reset. Inside there is a button that will restore the factory settings of the router. And together with them, it will reset the administrator password to the original one. It is most convenient to get to it with a needle, awl or something else, but long and thin.

When pressed, there will be a characteristic click. The button must be held for about ten seconds. After the router will reboot, you can determine this by blinking on the front panel. Now you need to wait until it is fully loaded. It's best to wait two minutes. After that, the password is reset, you can return the settings.

All devices connected to the router via Wi-Fi will lose signal. If the configuration is done not via a cable, but via a network, then you need to reconnect to the point. Its name will change, so it will be determined by the quality of the signal (it should be maximum or close to this) and by the absence of a password. If the configuration is done via a cable, then this step can be skipped.

Now you need to re-enter the router page. Now select the administrator as a user or enter the login admin. For D-Link models, the initial administrator password is blank. For TP-LINK - admin. One of these options should work. You can also see it on the back of the router, this method is described above. If the password is not there, then it will be in the instructions. In extreme cases, it is easy to find it on the Internet, just indicate the manufacturer of the router.

After logging in as an administrator, you can set a new password. And also it is necessary to restore all the settings, since otherwise the Internet will not work. And there you can also set the password for the Wi-Fi point and its name.
