First attempt: one pallet sofa

Before making a full-fledged sofa out of pallets, you should watch the video and practice on a small piece of furniture. To make a sofa in the hallway, one pallet of a standard size is enough for you. In addition, prepare four thick bars for the legs and a sheet of plywood for the back (it is not very convenient to lean your back on the bars) and handrails. Here's what to do:

Saw the pallet lengthwise into two parts: the large one, of the four bars, becomes the seat, and the smaller, of the three bars, becomes the back.
Use screws and metal corners to attach the legs to the side surfaces of the part that will be the seat. For the structure to be stable, they must be wide and not very high.
Using wooden corners, attach the other half of the pallet at the desired angle, as shown in the photo.
Primer, varnish or paint the sofa. Separately process a sheet of plywood for the backrest and secure it to the rungs with loops.

Advice! In the hallway, sofa cushions made of denim or other dense fabric that are easy to clean are best suited.

For a sofa on the balcony, sew leatherette pillows: they are not afraid of accidental rain if you do not have time to bring them into the room in bad weather.

Standard sofas

A standard-sized sofa is made from six pallets, but you need to purchase at least eight wooden platforms. One will be in stock in case any pallet breaks during processing, and the second you will disassemble into planks and use them to fasten the fragments together. The algorithm of work in the manufacture of all types of sofa is exactly the same: the manufacture of parts (base, back, attachment of legs), their processing and assembly.

Preparation of parts

Base. Lay two wooden platforms face down on the floor, secure with corners and planks, repeat with a second pair of pallets.
Saw the fifth pallet crosswise into two equal parts: this will be the back.
If necessary, treat the fragments of future furniture with a moisture-repellent compound and a primer for wood (to even out irregularities and cover cracks). When it is dry, open the trays with varnish or paint according to the instructions.
Attach castors, legs, or wooden blocks to one of the pairs of pallets.

Assembly

If you are not confident in yourself, use a photo or video on how to make sofas from pallets with your own hands - following the wizard's advice step by step:

fasten two pairs of pallets together - with self-tapping screws and with the help of special fasteners (to increase strength, treat the joints with wood glue);
attach the back, build the armrests;
Line the sofa surface with breathable agrofibre material to keep dust out of the seats. Place soft pillows or a mattress on top of the base of the sofa and your new furniture is ready.

Additional elements

Drawers with handles can be made from the remaining boards (from dimensions 35 x 38 x 10 cm). which will slide out of the space between the base pallets. To make them glide better, attach plywood sheets to the crossbeams.

On a note! A corner sofa can be assembled from six euro pallets 120 x 80 centimeters.

You can use standard pallets, but then the furniture will be more bulky. Pallets are placed one on top of the other in three pieces and fastened together, and then - together. For fastening the halves of the sofa at an angle, in addition to metal fasteners at the joints, polyurethane foam is used. The back is made from boards or a spare wooden platform.

If you want to be able not only to sit on the sofa, but also to sleep, build a sofa bed with a box for a standard mattress. Saw out the middle support in the pallets, fix the cut out part between the sides - you get a structure with sides, its perimeter corresponds to the perimeter of the bottom of the sofa. The height of the vertical corner posts depends on the thickness of the future mattress. The finished box is installed on two pallets connected to each other, and fixed with self-tapping screws.

Lounge sofa and step sofa

Eco-design furniture is not cheap, but after gaining some experience, you can independently create the most exquisite items from the "wooden constructor". Eco-style sofas can be supplemented in almost any interior: a low sofa on the basis of one row of pallets will remind you of the atmosphere of an Asian home, a corner sofa made of dark or light wood is appropriate in a country-style kitchen, and a simple, strong bench with bright pillows will add special coziness balcony in a high-rise building. Well, when you have mastered the craft to such an extent that you yourself are ready to give a master class to beginners, you can proceed to more complex options.

Try making a multifunctional lounge sofa and an unusual stepped terrace sofa:

Lounge sofa. Pallets can be used to build a spacious and comfortable resting place. A table lamp, book, tablet, mobile phone will fit on the wide back of such a sofa. The armrests should also be wide. Attach small trays and scaffolds to them, on which you will put a cup of coffee or a teal with sandwiches. It is convenient to store books, magazines on the shelves between pallets, and put gargets on recharging.
Sofa terrace. It resembles a staircase with two or three wide steps: at the base of the upper tier there are three rows of pallets, at the base of the second - two, and the lowest is fixed on one row. Instead of "placing" a different number of platforms under each level, the tiers can be fixed on thick legs of different heights and play on the fact that standard and Euro pallets have different sizes. Assemble the upper tier from pallets oriented in width (120 x 100 cm), the second from the same pallets with the narrow side turned towards them (100 x 120 cm), and the third from Euro pallets turned by the narrow side (120 x 80 cm).

Know! Such a sofa cannot be called folding because its parts are not fastened together. Folding is, after all, a slightly different option.

But if you choose the desired height of the legs, the second level can be easily pushed under the first, and the third - under the second, and the structure will take up less space.

Depending on the purpose and style of the piece of furniture, you can play with the natural texture of the tree, paint the frame in a bright color or contrasting shades. Colorless or tinted transparent varnish will help to preserve and emphasize the texture of the material. Pallets can only be painted with acrylic paints, water-based paints are not suitable for wood.

The frame should be in harmony with soft details in texture and color:

if it is made in the style of rural minimalism (deliberate illusion of untreated wood), sew or order pillows for it made of fabric reminiscent of burlap, rough canvas or plaid "plaid";
contrasting (white to black and vice versa) or bright, multi-colored and variegated patterned pillows are suitable for a solid white or black base;
for a summer residence, it is better to choose dark seats;
if the frame is painted in blue, red, green and other bright colors, the color of the accessories should be black, white or neutral warm shades.
