Story
In 1925, graduates of the studio at the Maly Theater decided to create their own mobile theater, not yet knowing that they would give a start to a “movement” that would last for decades. With the blessing of the great actress Maria Ermolova, they gave the new theater her name.
In 1933, to the troupe of the Theater. MN Ermolova was joined by the artists of the Theater-Studio. A. V. Lunacharsky.
In 1946, the already matured theater settled in the Postnikovs' passage building, where it still lives.
Since 2012, the artistic director of the Theater. Ermolova is Oleg Menshikov. How it all began

At the same time, the reunited team managed not only to resolve their differences, but also to return that unforgettable atmosphere of sincerity and sophistication for which this scene was famous earlier.
Moreover, in 2012, the interest of the entire cultural community was riveted to the Theater. This was due to the appointment of a new artistic director. Now the name of the famous actor who began his career on this stage - Oleg Menshikov - appears on the poster of the Yermolova Theater as a director. Director Valery Sarkisov made Hamlet a teenager with appropriate actions and antics.
The director also decided that Hamlet was a comedy. The characters joked in the manner of KVN participants, the audience laughed. Anton Kolesnikov, who played small roles: an actor and a gravedigger, was especially "trying". He turned his performances into buffoonery.
The artists played at a weak level. Without emotion - Boris Mironov's Claudius. The actor portrayed the regicide as a medium-sized bandit. And by emotion - the Terminator. Where is the suffering, throwing, conspiracies?
Tatiana Argunova - Gertrude. The actress is well in her 70s and Hamlet's monologue about maternal lust looked more than inappropriate. The actress is similar in age not to Hamlet's mother, but to her grandmother. Argunova portrayed a lost woman who, without reasoning, recognized her son as crazy in order to somehow justify her presence on the stage. It looked clumsy.
Poloniy Sergei Badichkin reminded the mathematics teacher from "Electronics" performed by Yevgeny Vesnik. Remember this character? The intriguer of him is "still the one".
Ophelia Tolstoganova is raw, unconvincing, with some hints of incest. (Painfully passionately, she hugged her brother when she was cold to Hamlet). The actress lacks experience and you can feel it. The same is about Sergei Kempo's Laerte, Andrey Popov's Rosencrantz, Pavel Galich's Guildenstern, and other young actors who spoke and moved like cardboard, without emotion, interest, or soul. It felt like they were just reading out the text that they had conscientiously learned.
Sasha Petrov, of course, is magically charming with a Gagarin smile. How fashionable it is now to say "with a hypnotic gaze and acting extrasensory perception." A talented actor. I really like his work in the film "T-34" and the TV series "Hugging the Sky". Perhaps, in this performance, it is not the actor's fault that the director saw Hamlet as a teenager. But Sasha tried.
Not everything worked out.
I was surprised by the frequent smile on the face of "suffering Hamlet. It did not fit in with the tragedy.
Plus, the artist Petrov for some reason adopted the manner of speaking like that of the artistic director of the theater, Oleg Menshov. Swallow endings, make hard consonants soft, timbre, voice are very similar. This is puzzling. During monologues, Hamlet-Petrov often swallowed endings, which made it unclear what he was talking about. So famous: "To be or not to be" the viewer did not really hear. Sasha at that moment hugged Tolstoganova - Ophelia, spoke quickly.
In total, the "Yermolovites" did not succeed in tragedy. No depth, no scale, no feelings. She left the theater with a smile, as after a checkpoint, a comedy: she laughed and forgot.
Therefore, I recommend to all fans of Shakespeare's plays the black-and-white two-part film "Hamlet" of 1964 with Innokentiy Smoktunovsky as Hamlet. Get to know the real, deep classics.

Nice stage decoration. Visually interesting and concise. Fascinated by the musical accompaniment - a real brass band! Surprisingly and pleasantly! The musicians played the bagpipes, horn, wind instruments. What created the atmosphere of Medieval Denmark. Beautiful, solemn, respectful for the viewer.
