Snowflake made of wood pattern. Plywood crafts - New Year: the necessary materials and tools, features of the manufacture of two-dimensional and three-dimensional structures

Greetings, my dear readers.

So, today I will make a snowflake from a tree with my own hands. I wrote this article back on New Year's holidays, after I received a letter from Ucoz, where the admins organized such an interesting competition:

The most creative is the competition!

What do we have to do:

  • draw or make your own uSnowflake from any material (the U logo on the snowflake is welcome!);

  • No nominations - only prizes!

    • 5 gift certificates worth 5000 rubles from the OZON online store

    • 15 exclusive secret souvenir gifts;

    • 5 Lifetime Premium Packages;

    • 3 individual site audits from a specialist;

    • traffic to the site.

To my great joy, I finally moved from Yukoz to WordPress, but decided to leave the article anyway - maybe someone will be interested :)

How to make a snowflake out of wood with your own hands

In order to do something - be it a snowflake or, you need to decide on the final result of the finished product. That is, you need to clearly understand what you want. And to do this you need a drawing or at least a sketch (sketch).

Plywood Snowflake Blueprint

This is of course very rough, but I already have something to build on.

I take a piece of plywood and draw a small circle on it - in which I plan to place the logo.

Then we draw the outer circle - these will be the edges of the future snowflake, and divide it into six equal parts.

And after a while I received a finished drawing of a snowflake from a tree

How to make a snowflake from a tree with your own hands?

So, the drawing is ready. Hands in feet, I take a jigsaw and start to "cut", or to be precise - to cut ...

And once ...

And two ...

And this is what happened ...

I sawed out a snowflake from a tree and now it needs to be sanded a little to remove the "burrs"

Moving on to the next step ...

How to color a snowflake made of wood?

For a long time I was determined with the color and decided that I would paint it blue. Having spent almost a year's supply of children's paint it turned out like this.

At first I thought that I would paint only the main part, but after a little "thinking" - I decided that it was necessary to paint over the side part in order to exclude "bald spots"

Well, now, I did all the above operations, after waiting for the main layer to dry out, I started drawing the patterns. An artist of me is "awful", so this is such a snowflake

I messed up a bit with the main logo, but after a little witchcraft it turned out very well! (you can't praise yourself - no one will praise).

So, friends, with a little handshake, I made a snowflake from a tree with my own hands and no plagiarism!

P.S.

Friends, to my regret, I did not become one of the first three winners, but I received a consolation prize - 3 months of a premium package from Ucoz, although at that time I already clearly realized that it was time to switch to WordPress :)

I wish everyone success, and it remains for me to remind you that a true connoisseur of handshake was in touch with you - Alexander Alexandrov.

    We will need:
  1. plywood large enough to make a snowflake
  2. snowflake template (click to download snowflake stencil)
  3. electric garland, you can use a garland powered by batteries or mains
  4. drill and drill

First thing you need to do is apply a snowflake stencil to the plywood. You can use whatever you like or take that we suggest you. We printed a stencil in a printing house on a sheet of A2 paper, cut out a snowflake, put it on plywood and circled.

Next, we cut out a snowflake from plywood using a jigsaw, the process is laborious and requires care and accuracy. You can use both a hand and an electric jigsaw. Observe the safety instructions.

After the snowflake has been completely cut, you can use fine sandpaper to work around the rough edges.

in those places where the garland bulbs will be, we make holes with a diameter slightly less than the diameter of the garland bulbs. Bulbs can be placed as we do, in the center of the rays of the snowflake or along the perimeter.

Now it's time for painting. We paint the snowflake in any color you like. We chose white.

It's time to secure the garland. Disconnect the bulbs, thread the bulb holder through the hole in the back, and insert the bulb in the front. Since the holes are smaller in diameter than the bulbs, they will stick and will not fall out.

Secure the mode switch or other heavy items from the back with tape.

Snowflakes are one of the most beautiful symbols of winter and New Year's holidays. They are made from various materials using most of the well-known techniques: cut, fold, embroider, sew, knit, weave, mold. They are used to decorate interiors, clothes, accessories, textiles, covers, notebooks, postcards. "Snow motives" can be found in jewelry, souvenirs, toys, pillows, panels, carpets and much more.

Everyone knows how to cut openwork snowflakes from paper. And today we will tell you what other methods of making snowflakes exist. Choose the option you like, prepare materials and create Christmas decorations for the whole family!

Paper snowflakes

When cutting paper snowflakes, you can use ready-made ideas from the Internet or come up with your own design. Remember that the thinner the paper, the more airy the snowflakes will be.

Origami snowflakes

Origami snowflakes are not as delicate and graceful as cut from paper, but they are strong and voluminous. It takes special knowledge and ingenuity to create such snowflakes! And how to learn how to understand the scheme, you can read in our article "Origami".

Quilling snowflakes

Snowflakes using the quilling technique are glued together from pre-prepared parts - strips of paper, twisted into tubes and flattened between the fingers in various ways. Quilling requires accuracy and a good eye, but the result is very impressive. In our article "Easter Egg Decor: Master Class" we have already talked about this type of needlework.

Snowflakes made of cardboard or plywood

It is better to make snowflakes necessary to create volumetric decorations or toys from plywood or cardboard, then they will be strong and tough. Using a ruler and pencil, mark the outline or circle the finished template, then cut or saw out - and the snowflake is ready! You can also make snowflakes using wooden ice cream sticks or school rulers. Such blanks can be painted, painted with patterns or decorated using decoupage technique.

Snowflakes made of felt

A felt snowflake will become a good Christmas tree toy, an original brooch, a pendant for a bag, a pin cushion or a hot stand - it all depends on the execution technique, your imagination and, of course, the thickness of the felt. Thick and dense felt is an excellent material for flat snowflakes, which can be simply cut according to a template, and it is convenient to sew bulky snowflakes from thin felt. You can decorate felt products with embroidery, rhinestones, sequins, beads and beads.

Snowflakes made of thread

In the manufacture of such snowflakes, a base (a wooden board, cardboard or foam) and pins (nails or pins) are used, between which the thread is pulled tightly. If the thread is pre-moistened with glue, you can get a hard snowflake: you just need to wait until it dries, and then remove the pins.

Snowflakes made of beads and beads

Not only Christmas decorations or other New Year's decorations are made of beads and beads, but also earrings, pendants, pendants, key rings. To create such a snowflake, you will need beads and / or beads, as well as fishing line, wire or dense thread, a snowflake pattern that is not difficult to find on the Internet, and a little perseverance.

Knitted snowflakes

If you know how to crochet and have ever knitted napkins, it will not be difficult for you to knit a snowflake, because similar patterns are used for them. To give the knitted snowflakes rigidity, they should be starch.

Polymer clay snowflakes

Polymer clay is a material with wide possibilities; you can make very beautiful snowflakes from it, for example, using filigree technique or extruder technique. When making, you can be guided by our master class "DIY jewelry for Valentine's Day", just change the shape of the product and color.

Snowflakes made from glue

This is a fairly simple way to make snowflakes, which requires a glass surface and special glue (transparent, colored or glitter). Draw a snowflake on the glass with glue, you can first place a template under it. When the snowflake is dry, you can leave it on the glass - if, for example, you were decorating a window - or carefully remove it and hang it on a string.

We are waiting for your ideas for making snowflakes in the comments. Happy New Year!

All photos from the article

If you have leftover plywood, you can use it as a material for making various New Year's crafts. To do this, you do not need to have at hand complex equipment and have skills in woodworking, everything is quite simple and within the power of even those who have no experience in carrying out such work.

We will tell you about some product options, and you can implement any of your own options, taking as a basis the tips for conducting the workflow.

Required materials and tools

In order to make this or that product, you will need the following list of materials and accessories:

Plywood When choosing, take into account the peculiarities of the crafts being made: for small elements and products of complex shapes, it is better to use sheets of small thickness, for more massive structures, material of greater thickness is needed - from 10 mm or more.

In addition, the location should also be taken into account, for options installed outdoors, it is necessary to use moisture-resistant plywood, for interior work, the usual option is also suitable

Cutting tool Again, the choice depends on the thickness of the sheets being processed, if and is suitable for thin options, then for thick plywood it is better to use either an electric jigsaw or a special hacksaw for curly cutting with a small tooth size
Necessary sketches If you are good at drawing, you can do all the drawings on paper yourself, but you can also use ready-made options. On the Internet, you can find many solutions: whole compositions of New Year's characters, and drawings of plywood snowflakes.

You just need to choose the option that you like best and which you can bring to life.

Paints It is almost impossible to make interesting and bright crafts without decorating them, so take care of the paints in advance. If any option is suitable for interior work, then weather-resistant compounds are needed for external structures, which must withstand well adverse weather influences

Advice!
If you find a drawing that is smaller than the size you need, it's not scary, increase its scale to the desired size and print it in this form, all the ratios will be preserved, and the details will fit perfectly together.

As for the manufacture of various crafts, then there are two options - two-dimensional or three-dimensional designs. We will consider each of the types separately, since the process has some differences.

2D products

If you are doing the work yourself, then you should adhere to the following recommendations:

  • First of all, you need to purchase the necessary material, for the street it is best to use plywood glued with bakelite resin, or use laminated sheets that are well protected from moisture;

  • Next, you need to make a sketch of the product on a 1: 1 scale, so you need to transfer the drawing to a large sheet... If you need a big Santa Claus made of plywood, it is problematic to do it yourself, but modern copying equipment increases the scale to the required one automatically, observing all proportions

  • The drawing is transferred to the plywood either using carbon paper, or simply glued if the product is large, and the cutting is carried out directly on the paper... Naturally, in the first case, the sketch can be used several times, and in the second only once;
  • Cutting is performed along the line, it is important not to allow significant deviations, as this will negatively affect the final result of the work... Next, you need to process the ends with sandpaper: remove scuffs and pile, round the edges and make the surface as smooth as possible;

Advice!
To make the material less cracking during cutting, the surface is impregnated with a mixture of wood glue and water in a 1: 2 ratio.

  • The last stage is painting, it is better to first apply a primer, and then paint the product... Pay special attention to the ends, they absorb moisture best and need special protection from adverse influences.

3D structures

We will tell you how to make a plywood sled with your own hands. Children will appreciate this type of product as it can be used in winter.

The work process is as follows:

  • First of all, you need to find or independently make a drawing of a plywood sled, as an example, we will show one simple option;

  • You also need to cut out the seat, for it it is best to take material 10-12 mm thick, its dimensions are shown in the diagram below... Cutouts in the sides and front allow you to grip the seat and tie in a rope, while the handle on the back is great for rolling small children;

  • When cutting, close attention should be paid to the connecting grooves and... The elements are assembled using self-tapping screws 35-40 mm long, for which holes with a diameter of 2 mm are pre-drilled;

For a tight fit, guide the file close to the lines that define deep, unshaded cutouts. If they are too narrow, you can widen them with a file.

Make a template for the layout and cut the cutouts in the second layer

Instead of sawing cutouts along the lines of the paper template, trace the template made from the cut plywood with a scribe knife to ensure a tight fit.

When sawing cutouts in the second layer, the file should not touch the marking lines. If necessary, the width of the cutouts can be adjusted later.

CUT-OUTS AND HALVES

After dividing the third layer into halves, mark and saw out the cutouts on the straight edges, again leaving a small allowance to fit.

DRILL SMALL HOLE

Use a thin drill to make a 6mm deep hole in one of the inner corners where all three layers intersect. Don't be discouraged if the drill goes right through as no one will notice.
