How to decorate the interior of a restaurant? — Design from professionals. Restaurant interior: photos, styles Decorating the restaurant hall in style

If you intend to design the interior of a cafe, there are two important things to keep in mind. Firstly, this establishment is a public place. Therefore, you need to design it in such a way that the chosen style pleases not so much you yourself as your visitors.

Secondly, people visit cafes not only to have a tasty and satisfying meal, but also to have a good rest between work or after finishing it.

When developing the interior design of a cafe-bar or children's establishment, it is very important to think through all of the following aspects:

That is why in this article we will look at each of these points in detail so that you can get an idea of how competent interior design for cafe bars is developed.

    Cafe design styles

Today on the domestic market you can find the following styles and interior design options for cafes:

    • classic, characterized by naturalness and rigor, but at the same time, suggesting maximum simplicity of every detail and comfort of its use;

    • minimalism. This style is characterized by the simplest color schemes. It is mainly used in cafes belonging to numerous fast food chains;

    • Art Deco style is filling the interior with light and elegant elements;

    • English style. With its severity and aristocracy, it resembles a classic, but involves the use of chic and expensive details;

    • exotic style. It is bright and inviting. At the same time, a cafe decorated in this style offers not only exotic interior elements, but also corresponding dishes;

    • marine or Mediterranean style;

    • interior design of a cafe in a loft style, characterized by industrial and industrial details. Such establishments are visited by creative people with pleasure.

Types of cafes and design features of each of them

If you look at the photo of the cafe interior design, you can easily understand that the design style is influenced by the theme chosen by the owner.

For example, today the following types of such establishments are very popular:

Choosing a color scheme for a cafe

The color scheme in which the establishment will be decorated is also of great importance for the comfort of visitors.

For example, red and orange tones help set the mood and improve appetite, yellow allows you to concentrate on important thoughts.

Green, brown and white colors can enhance this effect.

Of course, when choosing colors, you need to take into account the chosen design style and theme of the establishment.

If you are opening a coffee shop where visitors can not only taste a tasty and invigorating drink, but also relax for several hours reading the latest newspapers or magazines, then bright colors will be clearly unnecessary.

    Choosing furniture for a cafe

This stage also directly depends on the type of establishment you are opening.

For a restaurant it would be appropriate to use massive tables and chairs made of natural wood; in fast foods and sports cafes it is quite possible to install multi-colored plastic furniture.

Particular attention should be paid to children's institutions - as mentioned earlier, they simply need to be furnished with objects made from natural materials.

In addition, the furniture should have rounded corners for maximum safety for small visitors.

    Their services usually include:

A self-respecting design studio also offers one more stage of cooperation - designer supervision, which makes it possible to control the work of construction or repair organizations and ensure that it fully complies with the design project.

Today, restaurants, cafes, bistros, coffee shops, and fast foods can be seen almost at every turn. However, modern visitors can no longer be surprised by good cuisine, and therefore we have to look for other solutions. For example, restaurateurs are increasingly making bold experiments with the interior decoration of their establishments. Agree that a spectacular and cozy interior always makes an impression on you and does not go unnoticed.

What is the key to a successful interior? It is worth noting the fact that most people are afraid of unexpected decisions and prefer to work on a balance in the interior, not trusting the instincts of professionals. Therefore, there are an incredible number of projects in which everything is beautiful, but they do not “catch” the eye. After all, they have no bright spots.
They say that geniuses are able to subjugate chaos. So it is with space. Sometimes by combining seemingly completely incompatible things, elements, materials, we get something new that attracts attention in the work of designers - contrast in colors, textures, sizes, levels.
We invite you to take a look at the most interesting interior options for restaurants around the world. This alone is an excellent reason to visit them.

1. Pan-Asian bistro Zodiac, Russia

The restaurant is housed in a complex, enclosed space between an old mansion and a glass shopping mall. A bright accent in the form of vertically greened walls brings a fresh breath of air to the postmodern interior style and takes us away from noisy Moscow to the rustling jungle.
The interior of the establishment is notable for the fact that it successfully combines styles: expensive wood, natural stone and bare concrete walls, columns and ceilings typical of Art Nouveau, as well as exposed communications. The space “plays” also due to the visual levels, with the help of which the rooms of the halls are divided into zones.
A relaxing atmosphere conducive to socializing and enjoying the restaurant's gourmet cuisine is created by minimalist furniture made of light oak wood and soft light from ceiling lamps. The copper wires of the lamps, reminiscent of climbing vines, are ideally combined with the pastel colors of the interior, the white spheres of the flowerpots and the gray-green leaves of the succulents growing in them.
The overall style of the room reflects modern trends in European design - open, spacious, thought out to the smallest detail, it is able to please even the most demanding guests.

2. Combination of terrarium and restaurant in the project Vivarium, Bangkok

The Vivarium restaurant is located in a decommissioned warehouse. The designers created a new interior while maintaining the industrial features of the former warehouse. When developing the concept, everything found on the site was used: iron doors, steel pipes, tree roots. For the walls, a red primer of the same shade as the masala tea spices from the Indian subcontinent was used.
The combination of real living landscapes, ceramic details and a strict facade, which is a strip glazing with a metallic frame reminiscent of a container, transformed the interior of an abandoned room into a terrarium.
The halls are separated by glass walls from floor to ceiling. The concept of closeness to nature is implemented from the very threshold of the establishment - at the entrance to the restaurant there are massive vases with tropical plants, and the area is lined with small stones. Geometric shapes, the use of iron in decoration and multiple hanging plants give the establishment an authentic feel.

3. Bibo- street art restaurant, Hong Kong

We are accustomed to the statement that street art only decorates the streets. However, the authors of the unusual interior, the creative studio Substance, think differently. Through their efforts, this rebellious art form was embodied in the concept of a seemingly simple, but at the same time luxurious, French-style restaurant interior.
The designers transformed the former tram station into a modern restaurant-gallery. The glass facade of the ground floor allows passers-by to look inside the small space, the atmosphere of which is reminiscent of a contemporary art center.
It features rare works by Banksy, Damien Hirst, Daniel Arsham and many other contemporary artists. The interior pleases fans of the French style of the 30s. The combination of art deco elements: wooden parquet, elegant lamps, fashionable furniture and graffiti together gave a bright, daring result.

4. Logomo Cafe, Turku, Finland

The Logomo interior space is built on optical illusions conceived by German artist Tobias Rechberger together with Finnish designer furniture manufacturer Artek.
When creating the interior, the sculptor brought together the entire space of the room using lines that unite individual elements of the interior: furniture, windows, walls. All components are concentrated on the main orange line, the central dominant of the monochrome interior.
Commenting on this project, Tobias Rehberger said: “I like the idea of developing projects in the field of visual arts that are about what you cannot see.”

5. Restaurant Edulis, Madrid

The design of the Edulis restaurant is a striking example of the fact that simplicity and uncluttered interior is always beautiful. The interior of this establishment can be described in the words of the famous Japanese architect Tadao Ando, who argued that light and air are the main decorations of space.
The style is quite laconic, it can be attributed to the loft, so popular today, combined with eco-style. Also in some rooms you can see hints of art deco.
Brick walls, noble wood, moss and the right light create comfort and tranquility, which is something we sometimes lack in a big city. Landscaping, light colors, light furniture allow you to visually expand the room.
The remaining rooms are designed in more muted gray tones, focusing on the play of light and shadow. In general, the interior of the establishment is inviting: dim lighting, plenty of greenery, and discreet colors will allow you and your mind to relax.

6. Restaurant Palmilla, California

Palmilla is an upscale Mexican restaurant in California. The chic interior amazes with thoughtfulness down to the smallest detail. The interior decoration is dominated by stone. The floor covering is interesting because of its penetrating “stream”, lined with pebbles in a solid stone surface.
The massive stone bar counter is illuminated with LEDs, thereby visually lightening the entire structure and creating a floating effect, and openwork lamps add sophistication to the stone “cave”. Soft sofas, tables, lamps and decorative elements on the walls, decorated with stone in the form of Mayan pyramids, add piquancy to the interior.

7. Cafe 27 with a “green” exterior, Beijing

Specialists from the Shanghai company FOUR O NINE have developed a project for modernizing a greenhouse structure with a glass roof. For the authors of the idea, it was extremely important to talk about the high standards of the future cafe in relation to fresh, healthy and high-quality products through its architectural embodiment.
Cubic-shaped wooden planters are fixed on the outer and inner walls of the site in a linear order. An original partition, covered with rectangular slats made of ash wood, divides the space in half, marking the boundary between the dining room and the kitchen. Ash paneling also adorns the wall behind the crisp white bar.
The flooring within the dining area, defined by a terrazzo perimeter, is covered with ceramic tiles. The combination of materials used should ultimately contribute to the formation of a thermal mass that will passively help retain heat inside the structure during the winter.
The final stage of this project was the improvement of the area adjacent to the cafe. A garden was laid out in a small area and several comfortable benches were installed.

8. Restaurant-bar Tavaru, Maldives

The design of this building harmoniously combines the results of several expectations. It is unique in the context of the Maldives region; it offers its visitors something they cannot find anywhere else in the Maldives. Its architecture stands apart from all other buildings on the island - it is a modern, futuristic, somewhat innovative restaurant.
The technical challenge was to solve for the structural foundations and construction of a high-rise building in the hydrogeological conditions of the island. Unlike other buildings on the island, which are built in a traditional style, Tavaru with its current structure dominates the island thanks to its height of 23 meters and its specific design.
Instead of traditional natural materials, monolithic concrete was used for the facade, which serves as a supporting pipe, around which there is a cantilever staircase made of individual elements arranged in a spiral. All elements along the outer perimeter are veiled with a light gray translucent curtain. On the top floor there is a living room with a vista that offers the only panoramic view of the entire island.

9. Restaurant Edgar Burger, Nice

Interior studio ATELIER 99, led by designer Paolo Mazzucato, worked on the design of the Edgar Burger restaurant, which turned out to be very stylish and comfortable, despite the predominance of dark shades and industrial-style elements. All this creates a special atmosphere, but does not deprive the restaurant of warmth and comfort, which, together with the high quality of the cuisine, are so appreciated by visitors.
The style of the establishment borders on the intersection of steampunk and loft. Traditionally, raw wood, metal, and concrete were used in decoration. Ventilation pipes add character to a room. A touch of classic is never out of place: leather sofas with high backs add sophistication.

10. Restaurant The Jane, Antwerp

Dutch designers from the Piet Boon studio have transformed the church building of a former military hospital in Antwerp beyond recognition. The authenticity, functionality and expressiveness of vintage stained glass windows were taken as the starting points for the future interior. Designers like to preserve certain native elements of buildings. In this case, the pros decided to keep the mosaic floor and arched ceilings. Having flavored it all with stone, wood and leather, the studio received a rather interesting, bright modern interior with Art Nouveau and Art Deco motifs.
The place of the altar was reserved for the kitchen, because it is a kind of center of any restaurant.
It would be a crime not to mention the stunning chandelier in the center of the hall, which spreads over most of the room. This 800-kilogram work of art, measuring 9 by 12 meters, consisting of 150 light bulbs located on long peaks, was built by specialists from the Beirut studio PSLAB. It seems that it is flying apart from an explosion or a splash.
Studio Job specialists developed the design of stained glass windows consisting of 500 unique panels. True, the devils, skulls, babies, crucifixes, bones, keys, ice cream cones, bells, croissants, penguins and birthday cakes depicted on them only remotely correlate with the original function of the chapel. Archetypes from different spheres seem to speak about good and evil, wealth and poverty, life and death, food and religion.

We have no doubt that you will remember our selection when heading to this or that city.

Photo of the interior of a restaurant veranda with tents

If the restaurant is adjacent to a veranda with tables, then most likely the question will arise with the equipment of at least a couple of tents. Such structures, equipped with curtains and decorated with fresh flowers, will allow visitors to continue relaxing in the fresh air even in strong sun or rain. In addition, tents help to divide the space into private zones.

15. Panel with imitation of open fire

A lit fireplace is always associated with a cozy home and a hot dinner. It’s hard to imagine a better symbol for a restaurant’s interior. The list of modern ideas for cafe design now includes decor in the form of a panel imitating an open fire. This stylish solution will be an excellent addition to the interior of a restaurant specializing in preparing steaks.

16. Island fireplace

Restaurant design with island fireplace

If the parameters of the room allow, then you can install an island fireplace in the restaurant, which will inevitably arouse the interest of the public. After all, as you know, you can look at fire endlessly. An island fireplace in a restaurant interior serves more as a decorative element than as a means of heating.

17. Fresh flowers in the decor of the restaurant veranda

The veranda at the restaurant can be decorated with fresh flowers, the shades of which echo the tones of sofa cushions and other textiles.

Color solutions for restaurant interiors

When it comes to color schemes for restaurant interiors, designers in 2015 are quite conservative. Bohemian black shades are combined with and diluted with bright accents of orange or emerald. The trend is deep, rich tones, thanks to which the space acquires clear outlines.

18. Combination of terracotta and brown shades

In the design of restaurants and cafes, which can be seen on, chocolate tones and shades close to natural wood are now in fashion. This color scheme helps create a cozy atmosphere and looks as environmentally friendly as possible. You can dilute the chocolate monochrome with bright terracotta shades, as private designers Ruslan and Maria Green did in one of their recent restaurant interior projects.

19. Violet and lilac shades in the restaurant interior

Restaurant design with purple accents

And lilac shades in 2015 are popular not only in private interiors, but also in the design of restaurants and cafes, as the photos eloquently testify to. These colors, reminiscent of violets and blueberries, look quite expensive and can be perfectly combined with dark shades.

20. Gold accents against black

Bathroom design with gold sinks

If dark colors dominate in a restaurant, then one of the most optimal shades for plumbing elements in this case is gold. Thus, golden sinks in one of the recent interior projects from private designers Ruslan and Maria Green make the design project seem more expensive.

It is an establishment where people come not just to eat, but to get aesthetic pleasure from the presentation of dishes, enjoy exquisite culinary masterpieces, a festive atmosphere and, of course, stylish interior design.

Hiring a professional team of chefs and well-trained service staff is half the battle; in order for the establishment to be popular with visitors, you need to create your own unique look - an interior that you will want to return to again and again. At the moment, there are 10 most popular stylistic trends that are used to decorate profitable restaurants around the world.

An establishment with an interior of this theme is the embodiment of luxury and wealth. It is simply impossible to confuse this style with any other direction. Of course, now the Empire style no longer has the same appearance as it did several hundred years ago; it has adapted to modern requirements. If earlier restaurants of this style used exclusively hard furniture and uncomfortable Roman tables, now they have been replaced with soft chairs with lyre-shaped backs and large tables .

However, all other elements remain unchanged: pilasters, picturesque panels, an abundance of mirrors, the use of marble and bronze details, luxurious gilded molding, original carvings - these are the distinctive features of the Empire style. And of course the mahogany finish, without which it is simply impossible to imagine this direction.

Classics never go out of fashion; the classic interior of the establishment will be a constant success among visitors. This direction is characterized by the absence of bright color spots; exclusively delicate pastel colors are used in the decoration. Abundance of space, large windows, mirror surfaces, crystal chandeliers, velvet curtains, elegant candlesticks are integral elements of this style.

The main condition for creating a restaurant in a classic style is the use of exclusively natural materials, both in decoration and in interior design. A harmonious picture is created through a competent combination of all the constituent details, and there should be as few decorative elements as possible.

It is almost impossible to distinguish a classic establishment from a neoclassical restaurant by appearance. It is also characterized by an abundance of free space, high ceilings, light colors without bright inserts, a minimum of decorations, plenty of light and clear shapes.

However, the impression of their identity is deceptive, because the decoration of the room in the neoclassical style and all the interior items in it are made exclusively from artificial materials. Plastic panels with wood imitation, suspended ceilings, laminate, wood effect ceramic tiles– the best materials for finishing a neoclassical establishment.

This style intricately combined the characteristic features of several eras, which ultimately led to a rather interesting result. Art Nouveau is characterized by asymmetry, high decorativeness and an abundance of various ornaments and patterns. The feeling of softness and comfort of the interior is created through the use of smooth lines.

Restaurants in this area pay special attention to lighting; it should not be too bright, but the presence of lamps in the most unusual locations is welcome. The color scheme is kept in calm tones; modernism is not characterized by contrasting combinations. In finishing, preference is given to natural materials.

High-tech involves the use of exclusively ultra-modern materials and furniture. Plastic chairs, laminated tabletops, unusual decorative elements, bold color combinations, original lighting - these are the mandatory elements of such an establishment.

White, gray or cream shades are often used as primary colors; silver tones are often used. Any shade can be used as an additional color; the most original combinations are welcome. In addition, the room should have many mirror surfaces that effectively reflect light.

A rather interesting and extraordinary solution for a restaurant is the Gothic style. Many people are frightened by the name of this movement, which is not surprising, because not the most pleasant associations arise with Gothic. However, there is nothing scary in the interior of such an establishment. Comfortable armchairs, massive tables, brown and beige colors and unusual candle-shaped lamps make the room truly cozy.

Often, Gothic restaurants have a fireplace, which creates an atmosphere of homely warmth and comfort. The main decoration of the interior are colorful stained glass windows, which most often depict biblical scenes. The decoration of the walls and ceiling is discreet; paint is usually used as a finishing material, and the floors are covered with wood.

Chic and luxury are the main synonyms of the Baroque style. High ceilings, large windows, plenty of free space, luxurious furniture, heavy floor-length curtains made of expensive materials, velvet upholstery, fringe - everything without which it is impossible to imagine the interior of this stylistic trend.

All kinds of tapestries, frescoes or bas-reliefs are used as the main decorative elements. The main color is white, as well as light shades of blue and green. Furniture used is only that made from elite wood, such as mahogany.

In fact, Rococo is a descendant of the Baroque style. It is also characterized by sophistication and aesthetic splendor, however, its implementation requires smaller areas and lighter materials. Rococo is a very elegant and airy style, which cannot be said about Baroque. The main thing in its implementation is the abundance of shine, which is achieved through the use of a large number of mirrors and varnished surfaces.

Flowers occupy a special place in the Rococo style; floral motifs can be seen in the designs on the fabric and graceful arabesques. The color scheme of the interior is pink, blue or light green. The atmosphere of lightness that reigns in this restaurant will appeal to many visitors.

Passion for the culture of the land of the rising sun is only increasing every year; it is not surprising that restaurants with Japanese-style interiors are particularly successful. An establishment with a similar theme is characterized by simplicity and clear lines; sometimes this style is confused with other eastern styles, such as Chinese.

Its main difference from them is the use of exclusively restrained tones in the decoration; there should be no bright colors, because the task of the interior is to promote peace. The lighting is dim, you can see plant patterns in the design, and the blooming cherry branch is especially popular.

The restaurant in this French style is filled with an aura of comfort and warmth. This direction cannot be called luxurious and chic, but rather simple and elegant. The color scheme creates a feeling of calm and harmony; it would be appropriate to use white, blue, sand and lavender shades. Such an establishment should have a lot of light; it is advisable to use only natural materials in both decoration and interior elements. A floral print on textiles would be very appropriate. A Provence style restaurant is characterized by comfort and high aesthetics.

Not only delicious cuisine and fresh food are the key to success among visitors, but also a pleasant atmosphere is needed, so the unique interior of a cafe is an important task for every establishment owner. Guests often stay where the atmosphere encourages eating, where they want to spend an evening with family, a holiday, or just sit at lunchtime. That is why the right design is the key to the heart of any, even the most avid gourmet.

Bringing an idea to life

Like styles for apartments, there are a great variety of cafe design projects. Just look at photos of travelers - each country has its own food traditions, many of which have been borrowed by food establishments. Regardless of the façade, the inside of the hall can be designed as required by the author’s imagination. With the help of proper design, you can express the main theme and style of the establishment, its focus on a particular target audience, and even its pricing policy.
Before you start working on bringing your plans to life in a cafe, you need to:

  • Clearly plan the location of seats, wardrobe, technological area and kitchen. Of particular importance here is not only the unusual interior, but also its functionality and convenience for both visitors and staff.
  • Pay special attention to the furniture: it should support the general background or be in contrast with it. Convenience is also important here.
  • Choose the right curtains, mirrors, paintings, photos that will create an atmosphere of comfort and emphasize the individuality of the restaurant or cafe.
  • Other rooms cannot be ignored, because visitors, in addition to the hall, visit the toilet room, and in many cafes there are hookah bars and other rooms where clients have access.
  • Correctly format bar counter if available. It should stand out and be, if possible, equally accessible to guests sitting both closer to it and further away.

It is not difficult to decorate a restaurant in an unusual way, since the modern construction market offers various options for materials with which the most daring ideas can be brought to life. To generate the project, professional designers are involved, and the work is carried out by construction teams who will do everything on time and at a high level.

Unusual cafe interior styles

The most creative, perhaps, can be considered loft style. You can often see photos of cafes where the main element of the room is brick walls. The birthplace of this style is New York, and it arose, oddly enough, due to a banal lack of money for improvement. In our country, the loft appeared recently; previously, a brick wall was simply not perceived and was considered unfinished. Now it is popular all over the world and is considered unusual and trendy.

A positive quality of this style is the savings on finishing materials. It is enough to simply place a cafe in a brick building, lightly cover the walls with matte varnish or bright paint for greater effect, and add individual details to the design that accentuate attention.

Design projects in the oriental fusion style are also interesting. Both folklore motifs and industrial simplicity combined with thematic accents (fabrics, tiles, lamps) can be present here. Lighting plays a major role here - these are not ordinary lamps, but creative light sources in the Asian style. This is how you can decorate a cafe specializing in Caucasian or oriental cuisine.

Its description is quite simple: modernity in everything. This includes furniture, materials, bold color combinations, and lighting.

Advice! The use of a large number of mirror and glossy surfaces will add special chic.

Choosing furniture

Any project requires the presence of furniture, and it should not only be beautiful and suitable for the interior, but also have functional features. First of all, convenience for visitors is important, so that they do not have the desire to quickly finish their meal and leave, but want to stay longer. The furniture of each establishment is different, depending on the theme of the restaurant or cafe.
