And with the help of the built-in pendulum mechanism, parents can easily rock their child.

Dimensions (edit)

It is important to know that any bed should ideally fit the height and weight of the person. The main thing in this design is the bottom and its height. And if in childhood it is also possible to consider the safety of the structure as mandatory, for example, the presence of sides, then with age some points simply disappear due to irrelevance, and it will already be necessary to think about a large bed with an original design, which should successfully fit into the interior.

Sizes are generally uniform and standard. Beds for children are selected exclusively according to the height of the child:

  • Up to 3 years the best parameter would be a bed measuring 120x60 cm and 120x65 cm. If the child is small, he can use such furniture up to 5 years.

  • Double, as a rule, have dimensions from 160 x180 cm to 200 x 220 cm.

Parts and drawings for manufacturing

Everyone wants to buy the perfect bed, but this usually comes at a high price, therefore, not everyone can afford this luxury. But there is always a way out. It is necessary to buy the necessary materials and study in detail the assembly of wooden furniture. Only after analyzing all the nuances and subtleties, you can assemble the bed of your dreams with your own hands. First, you need to delve into some details.

There are a lot of reasons for making a bed with your own hands, among them is the desire to make something different and original, or a non-standard mattress size. It should be noted that at the initial stage you need to choose the size of the desired design and decide whether it will be a single or double bed. You can also determine the width and comfort zone using the following formula: while lying face up, close your fingers, fold your elbows and add 12-15 cm on both sides. A comfortable length is the height of a person plus 20 cm. Do not forget about weight and it is important to consider how many people are expected to fit in one bed.

When choosing materials, you must also take into account all these features.

The most popular material for making the frame is solid wood, since it is easy to process and looks much more luxurious than, for example, metal. The headboard is usually made of chipboard and held together with ordinary glue. For the bottom, you need to purchase slats. They, of course, can be made independently, but then the design will be devoid of orthopedic properties. Do not forget about the details that hold the materials together. The most popular are ordinary self-tapping screws with a length of about 6 mm, which have a rough surface and instantly come into contact with the glue.

Metal corners - another helpers in creating a bed... When buying, pay attention to their texture, it should not have chips or chipping. The same goes for regular nails. Clamp fixture will help to tightly connect all parts and all parts. With it, you can achieve a high degree of connection and strength. A double bed, as a rule, consists of a frame, two backs, a headboard and a side, inside it is a frame made of timber. If there is a desire to achieve greater rigidity, the spar will come to the rescue - the main power element.

To successfully create a quality bed, you need to follow some of the points below.

Corners and edges

Thanks to the metal corners, you can easily fasten different parts of the beams. Also, pins or edging, that is, wooden nails, are no less reliable fasteners.

Back

Its design and external data in general depend only on personal taste and wishes. The transverse beams are connected with self-tapping screws and glue. Holes are made for the load-bearing element in the middle, exactly repeating the dimensions of the spar. But the distance between them should not exceed 45 mm. The average thickness of the array, as a rule, should not exceed 50 mm. And the width of the back must be equal to the width of the mattress. Other options will only cause discomfort and inconvenience.

Tsargi

Assembly

A self-assembled bed hardly differs from a purchased one only if it is brought to an ideal mechanical and visual state. Below are detailed tips for making such a design:

  • We attach the back to the bed with legs and prop it up. We install the drawers, check the diagonals, frame and corners for inconsistencies and irregularities.
  • We mark the approximate location of the dowels. Then we make holes in the tsar. Everything is designed, the base is assembled - some parts are driven into the groove, glued together.
  • We remove the rope on the side of the tsar, and in the middle we place a wooden beam for pulling this rope. We leave this structure for 5 days.
  • We fix the flooring with glue or ordinary nails.

If you follow all the tips, you can make a bed with your own hands that is not inferior in quality to those that are purchased in stores. Even with minimal experience with such structures, if desired, you will get a beautiful and comfortable sleeping place.

How to update?

Currently, there is a huge variety of bed decoration options that will fit perfectly into any type of interior available. Over the years, each owner has an idea to change something, but not make it a grand event, but just slightly update the furniture, give it a completely new look. All of the decoration options presented below have similar elements, but differ in theme.

French style

The main attributes are flowers and monograms that gracefully decorate the head of the bed. Flowers, for example, can be cut from a piece of plywood, and then painted with paints so that they fit perfectly into the interior design. Forged monograms are usually complemented by a beautiful garland that emphasizes the originality and grace.

Oriental

In order to make an apartment in this style, you need a screen. It is she who gives the room a certain grace and intimacy. If there is no screen, you can purchase any detail related to the East, for example, attach a large fan to the foot, which will not only decorate the room, but also hide some defects in the old furniture.

Country

This solution consists entirely of environmentally friendly materials and will appeal to almost every owner. Wooden boards, various canvases, imitation of a fence on the headboard - all this is as close as possible to natural conditions.

Unlimited fantasy

With the help of mirrors, you can make a spectacular panel that can impress everyone who sees such a decorative solution to the bed. Also, the bedroom area can be pasted over with wallpaper that matches the color of the bed.

Ideas for the bedroom

Modern fashion trends dictate a style that must be followed. Each apartment owner wants to make something non-standard, original and unique from the existing premises. A regular wooden bed is, of course, a classic, but it can be improved with various furnishings or improved with skillfully chosen details. Do not forget that this particular type of furniture should be combined with the interior as much as possible, since it immediately attracts the attention of both owners and guests.

Such a bed looks quite elegant and beautiful, it does not have any clutter, only clear straight lines. Canopy slats and lamps perfectly complement this design, make it textured and stylish.

This model with a ledge is very comfortable and no less interesting. You can squat on the same ledge, as a result of which the mattress increases the service life and has practically no dents. Coupled with a properly selected interior design, such a bed can become the central and, perhaps, the most important subject of your attention. A simple bed can be upgraded with a painted antique look headboard. It will become an extravagant and kind of unique element. It is such a detail, together with pictures in color, that can add zest to a room and fill it with comfort.

Such a white bed will become a symbol of purity, nobility and spirituality. She seems to distract from all worries and puts a person into a kind of trance due to colors and a high level of softness. Sky-colored pillows and bedspread can add accents to a room that are sometimes lacking. Such a color scheme can make a room not only beautiful, but also bring some peace of mind into it. Shades of gray and brown are a great harmonious combination. A wooden bed, the textiles of which are designed in such a palette, will be an excellent addition to the entire interior concept.

Such a model will not leave indifferent those who value coziness, warmth and comfort. Being in such a room, you can relax not only physically, but also spiritually. Muted brown colors, lamps, lack of contrasts and bright elements - all this will help a person to take a break from hectic everyday life and enjoy the rest. This massive bed will bring a certain efficiency and luxury into the room. Thanks to the rough protrusions and massiveness, it will ennoble the room in which it is located. In addition, drawers will help to save space as much as possible and make it more functional.

For information on how to make a bed out of wood with your own hands, see the next video.

The average person spends almost a third of his life in a dream, and his activity in the waking state depends on good rest at this time, and therefore, success in business and personal life. The quality of a night's rest largely depends on the comfort of the body position during sleep, which should be provided by a comfortable bed.

Nowadays, in the assortment of furniture stores, you can pick up almost any, even a very unexpected version of this necessary piece of furniture, but for various reasons, it is far from always possible to purchase a model that suits all parameters. Therefore, the question often arises of how to make a bed with your own hands at home, and save a decent amount at the same time.

Variety of bed models

Before choosing a bed model for manufacturing, it will probably be useful to familiarize yourself with some of them in order to assess the complexity of the design and soberly weigh your capabilities. Today, furniture designers and constructors have developed a huge number of options, and many of them may well be implemented at home.

The main difficulty of the self-manufacturing process mainly lies in the preparation and processing of structural parts, since for these operations it is often simply necessary to have special tools. But, one way or another, in order to decide on the creation of this piece of furniture, it is worth first of all to consider some models of various levels of complexity, made from different materials.

Bed with drawers

The bed, equipped with drawers, can be single, one-and-a-half or double. But it is especially in demand for installation in children's rooms, where there is usually a large number of toys and items for various developmental activities. This design is convenient in that it is possible, without cluttering the room with unnecessary furniture, to create a place for storing various things. Moreover, by pulling out such drawers, you can immediately see all the contents, and not delve into the jungle of a massive deep cabinet, where it is sometimes difficult to find the right thing.

A bed with drawers is a great solution for a child's room

By and large, the design of this bed is not much more complicated than the usual one, where free space is left under the berth. The main thing is to draw up high-quality drawings, put down the correct dimensions in them, process all the parts intended for assembly well, assemble them carefully and find accessories that are easy to use. In this case, the sliding elements must have an easy move, freely move out and slide in, and for this you can pick up special side guides or fix small wheels on the bottom of the box.

Hanging bed

This original version of the bed is not so difficult to manufacture as it might seem at first glance. The only requirement that must be met for the effective functioning of this structure is the sufficiency of free space, since the bed is designed to swing in a certain amplitude range.

The bed itself consists of a frame - a frame and lamellas, but it must also be taken into account that all parts must be made of high-quality material and securely fastened together. For this design, you need to choose light wood so that it does not create too high a load on the supports. A mattress, which sometimes has excessive unnecessary weight, should have the same quality.

Metal bed

A bed made of a metal corner, rod, strip and fittings is available for execution only by an experienced welder, but this option will last a long time without repair and will not bother you with a creak. A metal bed is especially well suited to a certain style of interior, for example, retro, empire and even modern.

Such a "work of art" is available only to an experienced master

Stable and heavy in weight, the structure nevertheless looks light, almost weightless, so it will perfectly fit into any environment and become an element decorating it. For many, metal causes negative associations due to rust, which can leave ugly stains on the mattress and bedding. You should not be afraid of this - today, with the development of technology, varnishes and paints have been developed that will protect not only bedding accessories from rusty stains, but also the metal itself from this unpleasant manifestation of corrosion. On such a bed, the mattress will always be ventilated and will not bend, since the frame has sufficient rigidity and solidity.

Bed-wardrobe transformer

A bed that turns into a wardrobe is indispensable in the cramped conditions of small apartments, and this design can also be reproduced independently by purchasing special lifting and supporting mechanisms. In this version, the berth should be easy to clean and imitate a wardrobe or cabinet.

They can be different in size, imitate a massive wardrobe or turn into a compact narrow chest of drawers with a table top. The latter option can be used both for a children's room and as an additional, reserve bed - in case guests arrive. In addition, this design is sometimes installed in a loggia or on an insulated balcony, because in the summer it is so pleasant to relax in the fresh air.

Bed-curbstone - always ready reserve bed

The most difficult thing in the manufacture of such a model is to choose the right lifting mechanism, and, of course, it is good to process all the details of the structure so that it can be easily installed and removed, without distortions and jamming.

Podium bed

Another bed option that will help save space in the small areas of modern apartments is a podium bed. The meaning of this design is that the sleeping place will not take up a single extra centimeter in the room, since the bed is removed for the daytime under the podium, which can be used as a useful area, for example, by equipping it for a workplace.

It is also not so difficult to make such a model, but a lot of high-quality materials will be required for the bed and the podium, and the work itself will take a lot of time. However, the result will surpass all expectations, since the exit will not only have a comfortable sleeping place, but also an original interior design.

In addition to the beds mentioned, from the popular, often chosen models, one can name such as a structure with a lifting mechanism, an orthopedic frame, bunk beds, with a frame made of wooden slats, a sofa bed and others. Some of them will be discussed below in more detail, with the accompanying illustrated instructions for their manufacture.

Double wooden bed

Wooden double bed "classic" type

This is an ordinary bed of standard sizes, made of natural wood, which can be processed by yourself, bought ready-made or sent to a carpentry workshop for precise cutting and processing. In order to make such a double wooden bed, you will need the following materials:

  • Pine timber for a box and legs with a section of 50 × 50 mm, a length of 2200 mm - 15 pieces.
  • Pine planed board 2000 mm long, 100 mm wide, 20 mm thick - 22 pcs.
  • Joiner's glue or PVA for furniture.
  • Self-tapping screws for 65 and 40 mm.
  • Metal corners with a shelf width of 50 mm.

The frame being made is intended for a mattress with a size of 2000 × 1600 mm, therefore the inner space should have dimensions of 2100 × 1700 mm, and when measured along the outer edge - 2200 × 1800 mm.

The work is carried out in the following sequence:

Illustration
Since the box for the bed frame must have a height of 150 or 200 mm, with a wall width of 50 mm, the timber must be glued (3 or 4 pcs.)
To do this, the sides are coated with carpentry glue, the bars are laid on top of each other, compressed in clamps and left to dry completely.
Further, the resulting glued blanks must be adjusted to size.
So, to assemble the box, you will need two side panels (drawers) 2200 mm long, one 2100 mm for the middle longitudinal lintel, and two end drawers 1610 mm long.
In order to obtain a reliable locking connection at the corners, 50 mm are measured at the edges of the sides, on the upper and lower bar of the blanks - these fragments must be carefully sawed off and removed without affecting the middle bar of the panel.
On blanks for the end sides, 50 mm is deposited on the middle bar and then carefully removed.
Then, the protruding middle parts of the side bars are coated with glue and installed in the gap formed between the two bars of the box end panels.
After that, they need to be squeezed in clamps and left to dry completely.
You can act in a different way by applying the connection of the ligation of the timber. In this case, the bars are glued into a box already cut.
To do this, the first row of timber is laid out on a flat floor, which should form a rectangle. The length of its lateral sides should be 2100 mm, end sides - 1500 mm.
The end parts of the side panel timber are coated with glue, and the bars of the end sides of the box are pressed against them, and then fixed with self-tapping screws.
The corners of the rectangle are set using a construction square, and checked by measuring the diagonals - they must have the same length.
Further, the middle row is glued to the bottom row, in which the length of the side bars is 2200 mm, and the end side element is 1700 mm.
Its ends are coated with glue, and it is placed between two bars of the sides, and then fixed.
Then, the middle row, in addition to gluing, is fixed to the bottom one with self-tapping screws.
In the last, top row, the timber has the same dimensions and is laid in the same way as the first lowest row. The bar is glued, screwed on with self-tapping screws and left to dry.
This method of assembly is more difficult, since in the absence of the appropriate experience from the master, the corners can go awry.
The next step is to fix the middle element of the structure - a jumper glued from two bars 2000 mm long.
Before fixing the lintel, the bed box is turned over, the end sides are marked from the inside in order to accurately find their middle.
The jumper on the bottom must match the level of the box.
Then, on the bottom row of the box beam, in the designated places, thrust bars 150 mm long are screwed on. They will serve as a support for the central longitudinal partition.
For joining with these supporting elements, 50 mm from the edge is selected from the lower beam of the lintel. Fastening is done with glue and self-tapping screws.
A metal corner with a shelf of 50 mm can also be used as a support - the corresponding holes are drilled in it for fastening to the walls of the box and to the cross member.
The finished lintel will become an additional base for the boards laid on top of the bed frame.
The model of the bed under consideration has 4 legs in the corners - it is also convenient to fasten them immediately with screws or bolts now, while the bed box is in an inverted state.
The legs will be pieces of the same timber 50 × 50 mm. The legs are fixed to the structure first with glue, and then with self-tapping screws or through bolts, and it is additionally recommended to strengthen them on both sides with metal corners.
The height to which the bed will be raised above the floor can be chosen arbitrarily, but it usually ranges from 200 to 300 mm.
The shorter the legs, the more stable the bed will be, but on the other hand, the low height makes cleaning difficult.
In addition, so that the center does not sag, it is necessary to additionally fix one or two supports of the same height to the middle jumper - then the structure will have higher rigidity and reliability.
The middle support legs can be fixed in different ways. This illustration shows an option when the legs are fixed with bolts on both sides of the lintel.
After the glue has dried in the joints of the supports, the bed box is again turned over to its normal position and installed on the already mounted "standard" legs.
Further, on the side long panels of the box, lines are marked along which a beam or board with a width of about 30 ÷ 40 mm and a thickness of 25 ÷ 30 mm will be attached.
This will be the support for the subsequent installation of the ceiling boards.
The support flanges should be positioned so that they are flush with the center lintel. Usually they are guided by the gluing line of the upper bar of the sides of the box - if everything was carried out correctly, then compliance with the general level will be ensured.
The next step is to lay the boards on top of the prepared support shelves.
They should not rest against the sides of the box, otherwise unpleasant squeaks may appear during the operation of the bed.
Therefore, a gap of 4 ÷ 5 mm on each side must be maintained between the walls and the boards.
The flooring does not need to be made continuous at all - the boards are laid out at a distance of 20 ÷ 40 mm from each other.
The boards are fixed in three places - along the edges, to the supporting shelves, and in the center - to the longitudinal lintel.
At each attachment point, two self-tapping screws 40 mm long are screwed in.
To avoid the appearance of cracks at the edges of the boards or on the shelves on which they rest, it is recommended to pre-drill the holes for the self-tapping screws with a small-diameter drill - 3 mm.
After completing the installation of the boards, you need to revise all surfaces of the structure.
If necessary, remove protruding glue drips, large burrs, etc.
Go to finishing the assembled bed.
First you need to bring all surfaces to a perfectly smooth state.
For such wood processing, it is better, of course, to use a belt, eccentric or vibration type sander, on which sandpaper with the desired grain size is sequentially installed, ranging from 80-100, and ending with 280-400.
In the absence of a special tool, you can use an electric drill by installing a grinding attachment on it.
If the wood was processed using power tools, then after them you need to carefully inspect the product, since it is possible that in some places you will have to finish the work manually.
After finishing the sanding work, the finished bed must be well cleaned of dust and small sawdust, that is, prepared for coating.
If the product is immediately varnished, then the parts must first be primed.
If the wood will be darkened with a stain, then it will be used first.
The coating process is done with a brush or spray.
Further, if it is planned to emphasize the textured pattern of wood, then after the stain dries, they are again passed over the surface with sandpaper.
It is advisable to cover it not only from the outside of the bed, but also from the back, invisible to the eye.
The fact is that the stain is to a certain extent an antiseptic and is able to protect wood from "traditional" pests - microflora or insects.
The next step is to varnish the product.
For this, it is best to use water-based formulations, especially when the work is carried out in an apartment.
Such varnishes do not have a poisonous odor, are environmentally friendly and dry quickly enough, and after drying they give a pleasant matte sheen.
To achieve the desired appearance of the bed, you will have to apply several thin coats of varnish. Moreover, subsequent layers are applied only after the previous one has completely dried.
The finished bed, finished with stain and varnish, should look something like this.
In the intervals between varnishing the bed, while the next layers dry, you can make a full-fledged or an impromptu back.
In this case, the backrest day panel is made of planks and mounted in the form of a decorative grill.
It will require three boards 100 ÷ 120 mm wide, 1600 mm long, and 11 ÷ 12 pieces 400 ÷ 460 mm high.
The lattice is also sanded and coated with the same compounds as the bed itself.
In this model, the headboard is not attached to the bed - it is mounted on the wall at the level of the mattress.
The last step is to fit the mattress itself - and the bed is ready for use.

Double bed with installed lift mechanism

Another option for a double bed is a model made with chipboard. In this design, unlike the previous one, there are no legs, which makes it more stable. The advantage of this bed can also be called the ability to usefully use the closed space under the berth, since the model is equipped with a lifting mechanism that allows you to easily raise the wooden frame without removing the mattress.

The disadvantages of this model include its massiveness, which makes it impossible to install it in a small room. In addition, chipboard cannot be called an absolutely environmentally friendly material, since it is made using binders, which can often release toxic fumes into the environment, which is completely unhealthy for humans.

It should be taken into account that when choosing furniture made of chipboard, it is necessary to create conditions for effective ventilation of the room in which it will be located. And for the manufacture of bed parts, chipboard panels should be purchased that have a formaldehyde emission class - E1.

So, to make a bed with a standard mattress size 1800 × 2000 × 200 mm, you need to prepare the following materials:

  • Chipboard sheet 16 mm thick and 3500 × 1750 mm in size.
  • Two sheets of fiberboard 5 mm thick, standard size 2745 × 1220 mm.
  • Beam with a section of 50 × 50 mm, 18 m.
  • Board 10 ÷ 15 mm thick, 60 mm wide - 20 m or 10 mm plywood, 1525 × 1525 mm in size.
  • Lifting mechanism with gas shock absorbers.
  • Self-tapping screws, bolts.
  • Metal corners.
  • Sheathing fabric, 1500 mm wide, 5000 mm long.
  • Sintepon 1600 mm wide, 5000 mm long.
  • Foam rubber 2 sheets, 10 mm thick and 3000 × 1000 mm in size.
  • Staples for staplers 8 ÷ 10 mm.

Having prepared everything you need, you can proceed to the manufacture of structural elements.

A. Chipboard 16 mm thick is used to make:

- headboard - 1 piece, size 1080 × 2130 mm, it can be rounded or have right angles;

- side panel of the box - 2 pcs., 2330 × 350 mm;

- end panel of the box - 1 pc., 2130 × 350 mm;

- internal partition - 1 pc., 2010 × 280 mm.

B. Details from a bar of 50 × 50 mm, fixed in a box:

- longitudinal elements fixed on the side panels - 2 pcs., 2010 mm long;

- transverse piece fixed to the end panel - 1 pc., Length 1810 mm.

- racks with a height of 100 mm - 4 pcs.

V. Details from a bar of 50 × 50 mm for the manufacture of a lifting frame:

- longitudinal elements of the inner lathing - 5 pcs., 2005 mm long;

- transverse details of the inner lathing - 2 pcs., 1805 mm long.

G. Plank or plywood sawn (10 mm) lamellas 60 × 15 × 1805 mm - 11 pcs.

D. Sheathing of the bottom of the box - 2 sheets of fiberboard 1650 × 2330 mm each.

Having made all the elements necessary for the assembly of the structure, you can proceed to the sheathing and assembly of parts.

IllustrationBrief description of the performed operation
If the headboard has a rounded shape, then the template for it is first made on paper, and then transferred to the chipboard and cut out with an electric jigsaw.
It is very important to take into account that the headboard should be pressed against the wall - this will make the structure more rigid.
Usually, at the junction of the floor and the wall, there is a plinth that has a certain width. Therefore, in the upper part in the center of the headboard, a special support element is fixed from a bar or a piece of chipboard, having a thickness equal to the width of the plinth. With its help, it will provide an emphasis on the back against the wall.
You can do it differently by removing the section of the baseboard from the place where the bed will be installed.
Next, the box and headboard parts are tried on at the installation site.
Then, the exposed panels of the chipboard box are fastened together at the corners using pieces of timber or metal corners.
The headboard panel is not yet attached, as it must first be covered with fabric.
On the fixed panels, parts from a bar are tried on.
Lamellas are tried on across the timber laid on the chipboard, and their location is marked.
The next step is the head of the bed is sheathed with foam rubber - this operation is performed using a stapler and staples.
The foam is leveled and first secured to the front of the panel.
Then, its edges are wrapped and shot with staples from the back of it.
From above, the foam rubber is covered with the fabric selected for this. It is recommended to purchase a dense material that can repel dust.
The sheathing work is carried out starting from the bottom of the panel, and then the fabric is carefully stretched and fixed in the same way as the foam rubber on the back of the headboard.
The covered backrest can now be installed in its permanent place.
Further, the frame of the lifting frame is manufactured.
Its parts are assembled and fixed with metal corners.
All five bars are equally spaced from each other, starting from the middle of the structure.
The middle bar should rest on a chipboard partition fixed in the bed frame.
Having assembled the frame, it is temporarily set aside.
Further, both from the inside and from the outside, the walls of the box are sheathed.
At first, a synthetic winterizer is also fixed on them with the help of a stapler, and then the same fabric as the head of the bed was previously sheathed.
In the next step, the elements of the lifting mechanism are marked and fixed on the frame.
Further? the frame is tried on on the box and the place of installation of the bar on the side panels of the box is marked, on which the second side of the elements of the lifting mechanism will be fixed.
Then, the beam is fixed, and the fixed part of the lifting mechanism is screwed to it, and the structure is tested.
The timber is fixed on the chipboard using self-tapping screws 50 mm long.
Their caps must be sunk into the wood by 0.5 ÷ 1 mm.
After that, lamellas are fixed to the frame, across the bars, with the help of self-tapping screws.
When folded, the lifting mechanism looks like this.
It is located in the formed niche between two bars.
In the illustration presented, you can see a semicircular cutout made in the central partition.
This space is necessary for free lifting of the frame grille.
Further, the structure must be installed on the side panel for the convenience of further work.
The next step is to prepare fiberboard sheets, which will be sheathed with the bottom of the bed box.
This will create a complete cabinet suitable for storing various things.
Sheathing can be carried out using staples or self-tapping screws of small length and diameter, but with wide caps.
After installing the bottom part, the bed is lowered and set in place.
In this photo, small wooden parts are clearly visible - racks fixed on the side internal beam.
Such elements are installed not only in the middle part of the side beam, but also in the corners of the box.
They are mounted at the same height, and are necessary for rigid support of the movable frame when it is folded.
For the convenience of raising the frame together with the mattress laid on it, loops sewn from fabric or peculiar handles are fixed in its front part.
They are screwed with two or four self-tapping screws with wide caps to the end beam of the frame.
A bed with an open mattress looks like this.

Single bed

This section presents the design of a single bed, which can be used for an adult or teenager, since it has quite suitable dimensions. As for any piece of furniture installed in a bedroom or children's room, you need to choose high-quality and environmentally friendly material for this product.

single bed

Dimensions in these drawings are in inches, 1 inch = 2.54 cm or 25.4 mm. Knowing this ratio, it will be easy to translate the presented sizes into the units familiar to domestic craftsmen.

This table shows the manufacturing process of this simple bed model:

IllustrationBrief description of the performed operation
For the manufacture of this bed model, the following materials and parts are required, which are listed in accordance with the diagram shown in the illustration:
- A - legs. To manufacture these parts, you will need a 2 × 2 ″ (50.8 × 50.8 mm) bar. The height of the beam for the headboard - 33½ ″ (851 mm) - 2 pcs., For the footboard - 17¼ ″ (438 mm) - 2 pcs.;
- B - the back and front walls of the bed box, as well as the wall located at the footboard, are made of a board with a section of 1 × 9¼ ″ (24.5 × 245 mm), the length of the side elements is 75½ ″ (1918 mm) - 2 pcs., footboards - 39 ″ (991 mm) -1 pc.
- C - longitudinal beams for flooring, made of 2 × 1 ″ (50.8 × 25.4 mm) planks with a length of 75 ″ (1910 mm) - 2 pcs.;
- D - overlapping boards 1 × 4 ″ (25.4 × 102 mm) and length - 39 ″ (990.6 mm) - 13 pcs.;
- E - lower headboard piece 1 × 6 ″ (25.4 × 152 mm) - 1 pc. and the upper part with a section of 1 × 9¼ "(25.4 × 235 mm) - 1 pc., the length of both parts is 39" (990.6 mm). In the future, a curly back will be cut from the board prepared for the upper element.
The first step is to make construction details and assemble them into separate sections, from which the bed will be mounted.
The most difficult part is the upper part of the back, which is not only decorated with a curvilinear shape, but must also have a perfectly finished top and bottom edge. The specified dimensions are applied to the prepared board, with the help of an impromptu compass, the rounded upper part of the back is determined. You can make a so-called pattern (pattern) on paper, and then transfer the shape to the board.
Then, sawing with an electric jigsaw, processing the edges with a milling cutter and grinding with a grinder or manually.
It is very important that the surfaces are brought to a perfectly smooth state, as they will not be sheathed with fabric or other material.
In addition to this detail, the bottom panel for the headboard is cut out. It is much easier to deal with it, since the most difficult task will be to cut off the edges evenly, and then process them well.
Then, legs 851 mm high are cut from a bar with a section of 50.8 × 50.8 mm.
They also need to be well processed and cleaned.
After that, on the sides of the bars, which will be turned inward, markings are made to connect them with the crossbars.
In order for the assembly of the headboard to be neat and to have strong connections, you can proceed according to the presented scheme.
For this, 2 ÷ 3 holes are drilled in the bars and end sides of the boards for each of the elements.
Next, dowels 80 mm long and 8 mm in diameter are prepared.
Then the dowels and abutting end parts of the parts are lubricated with glue.
Further, the dowels are carefully driven through the beam into the transverse parts of the headboard back.
If the process is carried out in this way, then the joints on the outside of the legs are closed with a wooden strip, which is fixed with glue, and the leg is squeezed in clamps for the period of drying.
Provided that the covering decorative slats are glued, on the outside of the legs, landing grooves are left for the side panels of the bed (drawer side). In this case, they are attached to the side of the legs, which is the most durable connection.
If it is not planned to attach additional linings that cover the dowel joints on the leg, then the holes in the bars are not drilled through, but only from the inside, deepening them by 25 ÷ 30 mm.
Then, also with the help of glue and dowels, the headboard parts are connected together.
This assembly method is somewhat more complicated than the previous one, but with a careful approach and precise work, it is quite feasible.
Next, the legs and the footboard are made.
The height of the timber for them should be 438 mm, and the size of the panel is 235 mm wide and 990.6 mm long.
The connection of the footboard parts is carried out in the same way as in the headboard section, that is, using dowels and glue.
The next step is to connect the side panels (drawers) with the headboard and footboard sections.
They can be secured in different ways.
The most common option is metal corners. They are screwed to the tsars and legs with self-tapping screws.
In addition to metal corners, there are special parts to connect these parts, called bed ties or hooks.
With their help, the side panels are hung on the legs of the headboard and footboard.
If hooks are used for the connection, then the structure will be collapsible.
The next step to the side bars is to fix the support shelves or elements made of timber or docks.
They are fixed along the lower edge of the sidewall.
Glue is applied to the timber, then the part is aligned on the tsar and pressed against it with clamps.
When the glue is completely dry, the parts are screwed in with self-tapping screws.
In the next step, prepared boards are laid out and aligned on the bars fixed to the sidebars.
When the lamella boards are fixed to the bars, the entire structure acquires the necessary rigidity.
Each of the boards is screwed on with two self-tapping screws on both sides.
Holes for self-tapping screws are marked by drilling (3 mm).

The options for beds presented above can be considered the most affordable for self-production. In order for the work to be effective, it is necessary to prepare well for it by equipping the home workshop with the necessary tools and high-quality materials. Having fulfilled these conditions and performing all technological operations carefully and without haste, it is quite possible to get a high-quality piece of furniture that will last for many years.

If you are from that category of people who like to tinker with something, then today we suggest you make a bed with your own hands, using the instructions given in this article. The work on the manufacture of the product will not take much time and money if you correctly treat the design process and the selection of material.

A homemade wooden bed will become an interior decoration, reflect skill and creativity. The subject of arrangement will differ from industrial products, which will add sophistication and uniqueness to the decoration of the room, add coziness and color.

The cost of furniture structures in stores is constantly increasing, therefore more and more people are planning to make wooden beds with their own hands. This is a great option to save your budget and implement interesting projects. With the availability of materials and equipment, the creation of a product becomes an opportunity to obtain high-quality furniture that is suitable in terms of parameters. Exclusive handcrafted designs become an unsurpassed element of the interior, emphasizing impeccable style.

The advantage of homemade beds is the adaptation of the item to the interior characteristics. It happens that standard solutions, to one degree or another, do not fit the layout. It is more expensive to order a production item according to individual drawings. This leads to the fact that the craftsmen decide to independently implement the project.

Structural advantages:

  • profitability;
  • ease of assembly;
  • environmental friendliness;
  • variability of ideas;
  • durability;
  • the ability to realize your own "Wishlist" and wishes.

In addition, it is much more profitable and more convenient to make a bed for a dacha with your own hands than to buy a structure in a furniture store, paying for expensive delivery. It is enough to buy materials or use available raw materials. A variety of sketches will help you think over your own product, which is ideal for the interior. You can design your own piece of furniture that combines the necessary elements.

What is better to make

The selection of materials becomes the most important stage in planning. Wooden beds are divided into many options. The advantages of using this raw material are its aesthetic appearance, ease of processing and assembly. It is important that most often the types of materials are combined, which makes it possible to make a strong and durable structure. For this, timber, furniture boards are used.

In comparison, metal products are more difficult to manufacture; skills, specialized equipment are required.

At the same time, wooden furniture looks much more comfortable, fills the room with warmth, and also effectively emphasizes the features of the interior design.

From a bar

The overwhelming majority prefers to make the bed from a bar. The frame of most of these products is made from it. Such raw materials are the most durable, they keep their shape, with proper processing and operation, they do not lend themselves to cracking, drying out. Depending on the decor, a softer or denser wood is selected.

If you plan to make carved elements, it is preferable to choose soft, pliable wood varieties. If there is no need for a thread, it is recommended to buy a more durable raw material, the fibers of which are located as tightly as possible. Products from a bar provide for a rather massive look. They are suitable for hi-tech, loft, modern and similar types of interior design.

From planks

Products made from boards are in great demand, as they make the project more economical and easier to implement. It should be noted that it is advisable to make the frame still from a bar, and lay the boards as partitions in the middle of the product, where the sleeping place will be located.

The material is economical, durable, and, if necessary, it is easier to dismantle and replace. The arrangement of the logs can be dense, that is, the elements are in contact with each other, as well as at a certain interval. Boards are also used for the manufacture of the headboard, backrest of the product. Elements of various types and sizes will help create unique and optimal design solutions.

From an array

It is important to understand that solid wood is a processed canvas of raw materials. It includes timber, boards.

It is of two types:

  1. Whole. A homogeneous piece of solid wood.
  2. Glued. In the presence of chips and deformations, the canvas is sawn, the damaged area is removed, and then glued to obtain the required element. The principle is similar to the production of plywood, but wood waste is used for it, and the glued array provides for solid components. This type is more economical.

The advantage of a handmade solid pine bed is strength and durability. The design makes disassembly and assembly easier.

From logs

A more economical type of raw material, but at the same time no less high-quality and effective. The principle of composing furniture is similar to working with boards and beams. Correct handling and installation will help create a sturdy product. It is preferable to select logs of solid wood species.

This type of material has a natural pattern, it will look great as furniture for a summer residence. In addition, logs do not have to be purchased, they can be prepared by yourself. In this case, it is important to correctly prepare and process the array. Logs allow you to create the most cozy, comfortable and original furniture products.

Of shields

Furniture panels are becoming one of the optimal and inexpensive materials. They are glued wood lamellas (high grade wood veneer). Wood panels combine the advantages of a solid solid wood, but at the same time cost more budget than solid wood. Such raw materials are strong, economical, durable and decorative.

This material is most often used for the manufacture of furniture. Not only beds are made from it, but also other products, for example, cabinets, wardrobes, chests of drawers, sofas, etc.

Plywood

The material itself is a different type of glued veneer. Usually the plywood cover is continuous, therefore it does not lend itself to partial replacement in comparison with laying the boards. In addition, this type does not provide for adequate ventilation of the mattress. There is no orthopedic effect.

A do-it-yourself plywood bed will be a good option for a summer residence. It will cost more profitably, but at the same time it will be less strong and durable in comparison with solid wood, beams.

Where to begin

Product design always starts with a project. It is important to determine the dimensions of the object, draw up a drawing. Correct calculations guarantee a successful development process. It is better to make notes in a separate notebook, a sketch of the structure, indicating the necessary details with the calculation of the dimensions. You also need to prepare equipment and fasteners in advance.

Bed diagrams and drawings

We offer examples of drawings for a double bed with designations of dimensions and other parameters.

You can rely on the diagram, but at the same time edit it based on the necessary requirements. Furniture structures of other widths are made according to this principle. The design features are determined by the characteristics of the project.

Material and necessary tools

Beforehand, it is important to properly prepare the raw materials. Usually, already processed material is sold in stores. The bars are treated with a bioprotective solution. Wooden elements must be planed.

The amount of material is indicated for a double bed.

  • 100 * 100, 50 * 50 cm by 2.6 m.;
  • wooden board 60 * 240 cm.
  • 20 pcs. 25 * 75 cm by 2 m;
  • 6 pcs. 100 * 50 cm by 2.6 m;
  • 4 things. 25 * 150 cm by 2.6 m;
  • 1 PC. 25 * 250 cm x 2 m, 2 pcs. 2.6 m each;
  • 1 PC. 25 * 100 cm by 2.6 m.

The tools will help make the bed:

  • circular, miter saws;
  • ruler angle;
  • roulette;
  • pencil;
  • drill screwdriver;
  • hammer, rubber mallet;
  • clamps;
  • socket wrench;
  • fastening material.

Depending on the readiness of the elements, the list of equipment may vary. You can order a timber already sawn to size.

How to make a bed out of wood with your own hands

The production process is largely determined by the design of the bed. Today there are many different variations of projects that allow you to realize the most interesting ideas. These can be structures with side backs, podiums, bunk or classic products.

A single bed is a good option for a summer residence

Do-it-yourself chipboard bed is a universal design for a country house. Such an element does not take up much space, does not require significant assembly efforts, and will serve excellently for many years. But it is important that chipboard itself does not lend itself to cutting. Therefore, if you want to decorate the headboard of the product with carvings, this type of panel will not work. A bed with a width of 75-100 cm is called a single bed.

A do-it-yourself single bed most often provides for a frame made of more durable beams. The backrests can be made of laminated chipboard, and the sleeping cover is made of plywood. This method provides for a minimum of financial expenses, and the structure will have sufficient ease for trouble-free movement.

It is quite simple to make a bed from chipboard with your own hands, and if the materials have already been sawn, it will not take much time and labor. We will consider the principles of assembly below.

One and a half bed - a universal design option

If more space is required, the one and a half type will be optimal. Such a bed provides for a width of 150 cm. The materials of production can be timber, plywood, chipboard, fiberboard.

Quite rarely, expensive wood is used for such purposes. For suburban operation, the production of a bed from plywood with your own hands will be optimal.

How to make a double bed

You can make a double bed with your own hands according to these step-by-step instructions. The width of the product is 140-200 cm.

Manufacturing process:

  1. The frame is assembled.
  2. The height of the legs is determined. The height of the side parts is added to it. The resulting length is cut from a bar 100 * 100 cm. These will be the legs, respectively, 4 elements are needed. The fasteners for the side components are mounted at the desired height with screws.
  3. The width of the sleeping area is determined. 2 boards with dimensions of 50 * 100 cm are cut off, they should be equal to the width of the mattress, but you need to add 2 cm for normal bedding. Add 2 cm to the length of the mattress, saw off 2 more strips 50 * 100. We mount all 4 boards to fasteners on legs. For a double bed, one longitudinal partition is provided in the middle of the product so that the side beams do not burst.
  4. For the manufacture of the base, boards of 25 * 75 cm are needed. Fasteners are made approximately every 7 cm. This will allow the mattress to be ventilated, and will also provide shock absorption.

This is one way to make a wooden bed.

A bed with drawers - a practical option

Recently, functional furniture has been appreciated, which provides the ability to store a large number of things. So you can design a bed with boxes with your own hands based on a regular project.

A higher design is provided with guides installed in the legs. They make it possible to organize pull-out wardrobes. The product is optimal not only for summer cottages, but also at home, as it functions as a chest of drawers.

Finishing the finished bed

The finishing of the structure is the final stage of the design.

Stages of work:

  1. Cut 2 strips in width, as well as 2 in length of the product. To do this, you need a board of 20 * 250 cm. Glue the elements around the perimeter of the structure in the appropriate places so that the top of the component matches the upper part of the bar-legs. You need to fix them with clamps, wait for drying. You can screw the boards with self-tapping screws, and then install the furniture plugs.
  2. For the upper side, you will need a board with a width equal to the width of the bar-legs with the thickness of the finishing panel (glued or bolted element). Saw off 4 boards of the required parameters. Along the edges, even bevels are cut off at 45 degrees.
  3. The timber frame is reinforced with stiffening ribs. A beam of 50 * 50 cm is used. It is necessary to saw off the panels along the height of the side parts. It will take 20 elements. Details are fixed to the base of the structure with self-tapping screws.
  4. Then the top strips are mounted.
  5. The remaining joints must be putty with wood mixture. After the bed is processed with sandpaper to smooth out irregularities. Then you need to walk over the structure with a soft brush to brush away the sawdust.

Using modern tools, you can develop a unique bed design with your own hands.

For painting, a stain or special paint is used; to protect the surface, it is varnished.

Making a wooden product is not such a difficult process. The main thing is to think over the design, rely on the correct drawing, and also have high-quality tools and skills.

If you have any questions, require some clarification or clarification - write in the comments below.

A solid wood bed is a high-quality, durable, environmentally friendly piece of furniture that provides a person with a comfortable and healthy sleep. To always feel good and be full of energy, you need to sleep on a comfortable bed both at home and during a trip to the country. But most summer residents consider it unjustified to purchase an expensive bed for seasonal housing.

Budget solution - self-assembled bed

However, it is not at all necessary to spend large sums of money to organize a comfortable sleeping place. You can make a bed out of wood with your own hands, for this it is enough to have the necessary tools, materials, drawings. Before you start making furniture from planks or oak beams, you need to imagine what should happen after the completion of the work. It is advisable to draw up a drawing or select ready-made product diagrams.

Searching for ready-made drawings is a simpler solution, but only relevant if a mattress of standard sizes will be placed on the bed. If the master has a mattress of unusual dimensions at his disposal, then the finished drawings will have to be adapted to the existing conditions. In any case, experts recommend that you first look after or purchase a mattress for a single, one-and-a-half or double bed, and then look for or draw up an appropriate drawing.

A wooden bed with your own hands can be made of natural wood (oak, pine), chipboard, plywood or furniture board. For work, the master will need:

  1. Materials: furniture board or several boards for the frame, a given number of pine or oak beams to form lamellas (the log can also be made from plywood sheets), 4 beams or the same number of logs for making legs, wooden spikes and eyelets or screws and metal corners , as well as carpentry glue for joining structural parts, varnish for coating the finished product.
  2. Tools: ruler, pencil, screwdriver with various attachments, electric jigsaw or chisel, sander.

We collect the basis of the product - its frame

Making a bed begins with determining its future dimensions. The average size of a single bed is 100 cm wide and about 200 cm long. To make the frame, you can take several boards 25 cm wide and about 4 cm thick: 2 boards 200 cm long (for the sidewalls) and 2 more - 100 cm long (for the ends).

Parts are connected in several ways. The choice of any of them depends on the preferences and level of training of the master:

    1. Making a bed yourself using eyelets and wooden spikes. This is a rather complicated method, but it provides a reliable and high-quality connection of elements. The connection of the boards should be made W-shaped. The nests can be gouged out with a chisel or cut out with a jigsaw. The grooves should be about 5 cm deep and about 2-3 cm wide. The corners of the grooves should be aligned 90 degrees. Then the prepared joints should be coated with glue and assembled.

  1. Making a bed with a minimum of effort is possible when using self-tapping screws to connect structural parts. In this case, it is recommended to strengthen the frame with metal corners.

The manufacture of a one-and-a-half or double bed provides for the installation of additional longitudinal stiffeners from bars with a cross section of at least 5x5 cm.

We install the slats correctly

When the manufacture of the frame is completed, you need to proceed to the installation of lamellas (lag), it is on them that the mattress will subsequently be located. A person lying on the bed creates a load on the slats, and from the slats, it, in turn, goes to the frame and legs of the product.

To protect these structural elements from rapid wear, you need to attach special support strips to the longitudinal beams. They must be strong enough to support the weight of the person. Therefore, for a single bed, the slats are recommended to be made of 4x4 cm square beams.

The slats should be placed on both sides of the bed frame for giving, therefore, for work, you will need 2 beams 190 cm long. Attach the slats to the body from the inside, using self-tapping screws. Self-tapping screws need to be located at a distance of 15 cm from each other. In order for each log to lie in its intended place, bars of oak or other material can be attached to the support bar. What this design looks like is shown in the drawing:

But making a bed is possible without grooves on the slats. If the bar has a flat surface, then homemade logs are simply installed at a given distance from each other and attached with self-tapping screws and corners.

You can also purchase ready-made lamellas with fasteners. Another simple and affordable way to make a solid base for your mattress is to place a sheet of plywood or a few thick planks on the planks.

The next stage of work will be the manufacture of headboards for the bed. Usually the headboard is made higher than the side in the leg area. You can make a structure from furniture board, boards, logs or any other material. Here, a wide scope for imagination opens up before the master.

The final touch: attaching the legs

A conversation about how to make a wooden bed cannot be complete without discussing such an important issue as attaching the legs to the bed. It is allowed to manufacture these elements from bars or logs. The second option is perfect for a rustic interior, and the first will add the required rigidity to the structure. A compromise option involves turning the logs in the upper part (where they join the frame) and maintaining their natural shape in the lower part. The recommended height of the legs is 25 cm, and their width should be at least 5x5 cm. You can attach the legs to the frame using self-tapping screws and metal corners.

Content

Half of human life is spent in a dream, which is why it is so important to equip yourself with a comfortable place to relax. A good bed can also be purchased in the store, but it is better to make it yourself, taking into account the wishes for dimensions or materials. This is relevant, because furniture manufacturers have not pampered buyers with low prices lately.

Features of making beds with your own hands

The development of the future double bed begins:

  • with the preparation of materials;
  • search for tools;
  • determination of dimensions;
  • creating a drawing.

Each of these factors needs to be given special attention, since the correct choice depends on how comfortable the bed will be in the future, and how well it will perform its, albeit simple, functions. A do-it-yourself double bed is easy to assemble, the main thing is to follow all the instructions and buy the necessary items. Then it will look like in the photo of glossy furniture magazines.

The first thing to do is to determine the dimensions of the future double bed. The most important factor is the mattress, the dimensions of which are dictated by European standards - 160 by 200 centimeters. This nuance should be based on when determining the dimensions of the bed. Another detail is the size of the room where the bed will be located. If the room allows you to install furniture of a basic double size without hesitation, then take this standard as a basis.

It is better to make a double bed with your own hands from pine or spruce. The board should be selected dry, without knots (so as not to waste time and money on sanding). The wood for the frame must be of high quality. The legs can be made from second-rate material, and the slats that support the mattress are taken from the simplest ones. For beauty and more convenience, you can upholstery wood with a fabric with foam inside. For a homemade double bed, you need the following tools:

  • roulette;
  • drill;
  • glue for wood;
  • square;
  • iron corners;
  • self-tapping screws (30, 50, 60 mm) or nails;
  • screwdriver;
  • varnish (acrylic);
  • stain;
  • brushes;
  • sandpaper.

How to make a double bed with your own hands

If you make a double bed yourself, then you can come up with different variations of its execution. For example, it can be with drawers for storing pillows / blankets. Some people find it more convenient to hide the linen inside (under the base). It happens that people make transformable beds or bunk beds for themselves. There are many options, but the main thing is imagination and the ability to work with tools. Consider several types of beds that you can make yourself.

How to make a bed with your own hands out of wood

To make a frame (calculation for standard double beds), you need the following set of lumber:

  • 50x50 mm (2.6 m) - 2 pcs.;
  • 25x75 mm (2 m) - 12 pcs.;
  • 50x150 mm (2.6 m) - 5 pcs.;
  • 100x100 mm (2.6 m) - 2 pcs.

Assembling the frame is very simple (make sure that the length of the bed base is slightly longer than the mattress):

  1. Cut into blanks 150x50 thick boards into blanks: two along the length of the bed, three along the width.
  2. Connect the sides of the bed (transverse) with boards (longitudinal).
  3. Secure everything with screws / glue.
  4. The base for the transverse boards is cut from 50x50 mm beams and fixed so that the niche for the mattress has a depth of 3 cm.
  5. Planks of 25x75 mm are placed on the frame, corresponding to the width of the frame. Fastened with screws.
  6. Lastly, boards are installed on the headboard.
  7. Take a bar with a section of 100x100 and saw it for the preparation of the legs (compare the dimensions with your drawings).
  8. Cut out the slots in the legs for the fasteners on both sides.
  9. At the ends on one side of each of the legs, chamfer 1 cm.
  10. Attach the frame to the legs with self-tapping screws and make sure the structure is strong.
  11. Cover with varnish and stain and let dry.
  12. Place a mattress on top and a standard do-it-yourself double bed is made and ready to go.

Double bed with chipboard drawers

For this design of a double bed, legs are not provided, and transverse boards from the floor to the mattress are added to the main frame described above. In addition, it is necessary to purchase wide sheets of chipboard for boxes and accessories for them. The headboard and back of the bed must be increased by the height of the legs. How to assemble such a double bed:

  1. Make a frame by connecting the sides to the back (the boards are mounted high enough to fit the boxes underneath).
  2. Place the frame vertically and secure with screws and corners two transverse boards (one long and one wide), thus forming a cross in the center of the bed.
  3. On the inside, mount the side members that will support the under-mattress structures (a wide sheet of chipboard or slats measuring 20x80x100 mm).
  4. Build boxes from chipboard according to the drawing - to the size of the bedside recesses. Attach the hardware with small wheels to the lower outer sides.
  5. Place fasteners on the bottom of the inner sides of the transverse boards (metal guides along which the drawers will slide back into the grooves).

Double bed with a lifting mechanism made of solid wood

The mechanism with which you can lift the upper part of the bed with a mattress with a slight movement is a very convenient thing. Bed linen is hidden in the cavity inside the bed, used for other items that you want to hide from sight. The assembly is practically no different from the version with boxes. There is one caveat - special lifting mechanisms are installed under the mattress mesh. As with the drawers, there are no legs at the bed. How to assemble a double bed from an array with your own hands:

  1. Mount the frame as described in the second option.
  2. Assemble the lift section from the five-bar frame connecting the bottom and top bars.
  3. For reliability, fasten the bars together with corners (make holes and bolt).
  4. Fasten the lifting mechanism to the bottom of the frame in a compressed state.
  5. Place the frame on the base of the stock and screw the other side of the mechanism to the lower side member.
  6. Make a large chipboard box to match the size of the bedside niche.

Assembly diagram of a double bed-transformer

It so happens that there is not a lot of space in the room - a transforming bed will come in handy here. When folded, it looks like an ordinary wardrobe, and if you pull on the upper part of the structure, then a full-fledged double bed will appear. How to make such a place to sleep with your own hands:

  1. Start by making a peri-walled box with two 2.1 m long load-bearing planks.
  2. Fasten (with screws with PVA glue) them at the bottom with a transverse board 1.7 m long.
  3. Place one more fastener at the top of the structure at the back of the supporting struts.
  4. Install the exact same plank at the top of the structure, just in front.
  5. Place the end board, thereby securing the top of the stock.
  6. Make a folding part of the product, on which the mattress will be located, from sheets of thick plywood, secured at the edges with wide boards.
  7. Fasten both sides of the stock with special fasteners that are sold in any furniture store.
  8. For convenience, it is recommended to place fasteners on top of the carrier box, which will fix (prevent opening) the product in the assembled state.

DIY children's bed at home

For children, especially if there are two of them in the family, it would be better to make a bunk bed with your own hands. From the remains of fittings and wood, you can build a toy house for dolls with which children will play. A bunk bed is made very simply:

  1. Measure children's mattresses and add two centimeters to the future frame.
  2. Bars 100x50 mm in size (6 pieces - two of them are cut in half) must be fixed with screws so that you get two frames for a bunk bed.
  3. Attach a 150x20mm board to the end of the stock base and the other side.
  4. The second frame is also equipped with a side 200x20 mm.
  5. Make legs from 100x50 mm bars.
  6. On the lower frame in the corners, install the supports to support the upper bed.
  7. Cut out a sheet of plywood board of high rigidity to the size of the frames and lay the mattresses.
  8. Make boards from the boards on the upper tier and attach a ladder.
