You can create a model of an old ship yourself, without buying a ready-made structure for assembly. To get a high-quality result, you will have to show a lot of patience and perseverance.

Materials (edit)

To make a historic ship with your own hands, prepare:

  • plywood or cork;
  • thin strips of wood, bamboo, or rattan;
  • joiner's glue;
  • paper;
  • pencil.

This ship model was not based on plywood, but on cork. The choice was due to the simplicity of working with the material. Unlike plywood, which requires a saw for pruning, cork was done with a simple, sharp knife. You can also take thin strips for work from any material, they just have to bend well. Do not replace wood glue with hot or super glue.

Step 1... On paper, you need to draw the main details of the future ship. You can also print them if you find suitable layouts on the Internet. Keep in mind that your ideas may undergo slight changes as you work. This is not critical if you just want to build a ship in the old style, and not replicate an exact replica of a particular ship.

Step 2... For convenience, work with the ship was divided into several parts. The ship itself was also going. Most of the time was spent on the manufacture of the central part of the ship. Then the front, rear and deck parts with the mast were made.

Step 3... First of all, using the sketches already available, make the skeleton of the ship. Be sure to make sure that all of its edges are symmetrical. If there is a slight deviation somewhere, correct these flaws. Check that the ribs are exactly at a 90 degree angle when attaching.

Step 4... After the skeleton is ready, start styling its sides. To do this, glue a long strip along the center line of the side part. Focus on it further when you glue the rest. It is better to stick the reiki in stages in order to facilitate your work. Apply enough glue, but make sure it does not drip down the slats. Attach the slats additionally with clamps, leaving them in this form until the glue dries completely. After the glue has dried, remove the clamps and continue to glue the strips in the next section.

Step 5... Work all the places where gaps between the battens are formed with epoxy. Cover all parts of the ship with wood varnish as soon as it is ready.

Step 6... After the main work, proceed to finishing. You can hide all possible aesthetic flaws at this stage. To do this, carefully glue the slats that hide them over the places with obvious defects. From rattan, you can make a horizontal line that emphasizes the flowing shapes of the ship. The base of the ship is ready.

Step 7... The masts should be made from wooden rods and small flat pieces of wood. The ship will have two masts. Adjust the rods to the calculated dimensions in advance. To attach the masts, cut two 4 x 2 cm pieces of wood. Drill holes in them for the mast rods. Make a reinforcing lattice from small rods and assemble the entire structure completely.

Step 8... Make a template for the deck of the ship out of paper and use it to construct the deck with wooden strips. After letting it dry thoroughly, drill the holes for attaching the masts. Insert and glue the masts. Use plywood to make the side rails of the ship.

Step 9... Glue the wood strips to the front and back of the ship in the same way. They need to be glued to the side and in the deck part, and from pieces of plywood to make rods and handrails. All parts are fastened with wood glue. Do not forget to step up the rear of the ship.

Ship modeling is one of the leading hobby areas in Russia. By purchasing a wooden ship model, you will receive not just an interior decoration, but also a museum-quality model later on. It is not a shame to give a wooden sailboat to friends and family. When making, you will develop skills such as perseverance, accuracy and patience. Let's say right away that it takes many months to assemble complex models, but trust us, it's worth it. Prefabricated ship models wood is one of the most exciting and challenging areas in modeling. Most of the prefabricated models are replicas of real ships with a rich history. In our collection you will find a Viking ship, a pirate ship, ships from the time of Admiral Nelson, many yachts. You will be proud to show the finished model of the sailboat to your friends.

If this is your first prefab ship model, then we recommend paying attention to Amati and Occre firms. Since we have translated instructions for almost all models into Russian and the price / quality ratio is higher than that of other manufacturers.

Ah, drops, drops, drops,
Golden carousel!
To us in a paper boat
April sailed along the stream!
Sergey Kozlov

I love spring very much and always look forward to its coming. And not at all because I do not like winter, I just really want to see the first spring drops, enjoy the warm sun, put on boots and run through the spring puddles. And also my friends and I love to let streams, and along them various boats made of paper, cardboard, foam. Unfortunately, paper boats quickly get wet and sink, and foam boats are too light and often overturn. So my friends and I thought about it and decided to make boats out of wood. Wood is a durable material, easy to process, and most importantly - it does not sink in water!
With this proposal, we turned to a technology teacher, and he was happy to help us. Now I want others to learn how to make such toys. The work is not only not difficult, but also interesting. Before proceeding with the practical manufacture of the boat, we, on the instructions of the teacher, were looking for information about sailing ships, looked through the Internet - pictures. I want to boast that now I know that the basis of any sea vessel is its hull. Conventionally, the body can be divided into two parts. The front is called the bow, and the rear is called the stern. The stern and bow on both sides along the centerline are connected by sides. Hence the concept of port side and starboard side. The horizontal surface at the top of the ship is called the deck. On the decks of sailing ships, one or more vertical masts are installed, to which the sails are attached.
All that remains is to show the variant of the sailboat I have chosen and get to work.

Basic materials and tools for work
1. Semicircular wood of any species (size on request)
In this case, the length of the wood is 15 cm, the width of the flat surface is 6 cm.
2 Semicircular and flat chisels
3. Sandpaper
4.Gouache, colorless varnish

A semicircular blank is obtained by splitting round wood in the center (diameter)
Draw a boat shape on a flat surface of wood.

Cut out with a flat chisel.

For convenient and safe work, it is better to fix the workpiece in a carpentry or locksmith's vice. When working, you should not be distracted and disturb others. It is necessary to monitor the quality of work and observe the basic rule of safe work: do not put your hands under the cutting tool!

Cut out all sides.

On board (side) we will draw the bow and stern.

Let's draw the deck. The dotted strips are where the masts are attached.

Cut out using a vise. The depth of the excavation is 5-10 mm.

We will process it with sandpaper.

Let's paint. Everyone chooses the color. But it must be borne in mind that contrasting colors give a brighter effect. If the item is varnished, you can use ordinary gouache.

Let's prepare two wooden rods (diameter 5-7 mm). The shape of the rods can be either cylindrical or rectangular.

Let's drill shallow holes and glue the masts. In the absence of a drill, you can use an awl or a sharpened nail for drilling.
The height of the masts is 10 and 6 cm from the deck surface.

Apply decorative touches, spots and paint with varnish.

While the hull of the sailboat is "moored", you can go sailing. To do this, we cut out the sail from the file folder. The size of the sails depends on the size of the ship and the height of the mast. In this case, the height of the small sail is 5 cm, the large sail is 9 cm. We use toothpicks, you can take a piece of empty paste from a ballpoint pen.

These materials are "not afraid" of water, they are quite strong and adhere well to each other with the "Moment" glue. Cut off the excess ends.

We make two notches on the masts. The distance between them should be 7-10 mm less than the sail height.

The same glue is suitable for assembly. The ship is ready.

It remains to pass the test. And the truth doesn't sink! The varnish protects from getting wet, floats in the slightest wind and even in artificial.

I would like to show the work of my classmates.
This is also a two-sail boat, only it has cardboard sails.

And this one has no sails at all. His father helped a classmate to cut the bow and stern of the ship. They decided to put their ship on a pedestal.

The easiest option was chosen here, but I don't like it ...

This one is solid, but also made with the participation of elders.

Probably, each of us in childhood read books about pirates. These were sea robbers who roamed the seas and oceans, attacked merchant ships, and released all the booty in port taverns. These books were filled with intrigue, a special romanticism and a sense of adventure. For some people interested in the topic of piracy, the childhood hobby has grown into a constant hobby, which is expressed in the manufacture of wooden models of sailing ships. This is an extremely interesting activity, and ready-made models are an excellent element of interior decoration. For example, you can make a miniature copy of the famous pirate frigate, which sailed the famous pirate Francis Drake, who went down in history as one of the most famous corsairs of all times and peoples.

Who is Francis Drake?

In the Middle Ages, there were a huge number of pirates, however, only a few managed to preserve the memory of themselves. One of the famous corsairs was the Englishman Francis Drake, nicknamed the "Iron Pirate". He began his pirate career at a very young age as a ship's priest, after which he served as a sailor, and at the age of 16 he became a ship's captain. During his life, he visited a large number of sea campaigns and was able to win in no fewer battles, including with the British Royal Navy, therefore, among the pirates, he was considered a very successful, experienced and formidable captain.

Under the command of Drake were several ships, among which the flagship was a galleon with three decks and five masts, which was called "Golden Hind", which means "Golden Hind". The captain chose this name personally, since the ship was so fast that it could overtake any merchant ship and hide from the pursuit of warships. It is thanks to its high speed and excellent maneuverability that the vessel gained its popularity.

A little about modeling

The creation of miniature models of ships occurs in stages. Each stage is aimed at creating individual elements of sailing ships, which are subsequently combined into a single structure. This process is very painstaking and requires from the creator not only the utmost concentration and perseverance, but also the manifestation of imagination, since very often it is necessary to change the materials used or replace them with others that are more suitable for a particular model. In addition, to make the model more realistic and copy the original as best as possible, you should be careful with the dimensions of the originals, which take a lot of time to find and transfer to the layout.

Making a wooden ship model: what is required for this?

Various techniques can be used to create models of sailing ships, however the most common is making prefabricated pieces carved out of wood. This process is quite complicated and requires a certain set of tools. In order to make a model of a ship from prefabricated parts, you will need a knife, a hammer, a chisel, a drill with a set of drills, a wooden block, a piece of thin cloth for sails, a rope, a wooden spire of the required length, wood glue, and when making large models it will be useful to stock up and a saw.

Carving a ship out of wood

At the first stage of modeling, blanks are made, from which the model will be assembled in the future. This will require a chisel and hammer to remove old bolts, as well as sandpaper or a file to make the block perfectly smooth. Next, you should clean the bark from the bar. In order for the work to go quickly, and during its execution not to get injured, it is necessary to hold it towards the plane.

When the blank for the future ship is ready, you can proceed to the next stage of modeling. On the block you need to apply a sketch with the markings of the future ship, and then cut out the ship's hull from it. It is worth noting that this will require a well-sharpened knife, the blade of which should be at an angle of 10 degrees in relation to the bar. Despite the fact that this part of the work is one of the easiest in modeling, nevertheless it is also the most responsible, since you have no room for error when doing it. Therefore, take your time to remove the wood in small layers, trying to keep the workpiece symmetrical.

Threads of the bow and sides of the ship

When the preliminary model of the ship's hull is ready, you can proceed to the jewelry part of the work. On the workpiece, you need to draw the side parts of the hull, as well as the bow and stern. This is done in the same way as described above. First, everything is drawn with a pencil, after which it is cut out with a knife. At the same time, it is necessary to try to make all the parts even and smooth so that the layout resembles the ship as closely as possible. When making the bow, one of the sides of the bar is slightly sawn off, after which it is given the shape of a saw cut.

Model preparation and rigging

The ship "Golden Hind" had three masts, so on the model you need to drill three holes for them, the diameter of which should be slightly larger than the thickness of the pins. The distance between the holes must be the same and sufficient so that the block does not crack during drilling. If suddenly a crack appears, then it is better not to glue it, but to remake the model again, since the cracks will ruin the entire appearance of the ship. So that the masts stand securely and do not fall, it is better to put them on wood glue.

Set sail!

At the final stage, the sails are set. Since our galleon model has only three masts, only six sails are required - one large and one small for each of them. To make them, you will need thin fabric, from which you need to cut sails according to the specified dimensions. The sails should be trapezoidal. Before installing them on the mast, you need to make notches on the spiers, after which the sails are planted with glue. Both edges should be glued exactly in the middle of the sails. To make the process as comfortable as possible, and the result does not disappoint you, it is better to start setting the sails from the rear mast, moving gradually towards the bow.

To decorate the sail, you can use a flag or an upper sail, which is called a flying sail. Everything is clear with the flag and no one will have any problems with its production, so there is no point in describing the process of its sewing. But the flying sail deserves special attention. To make it, you need to cut out a rhombus from the fabric, in its shape resembling a kite. Further, two perpendicular threads are glued to the part, which connect the opposite corners of the decorative element, and a thread is attached to one of the corners, with the help of which the flying sail is fixed on the back side of the main sail. It is worth noting that the flying sail can be made both for the stern mast and for all the others. It all depends on your wishes and perseverance.

When the model of the ship is completed, it can be painted brown and opened with varnish, after which it can be at least used to decorate the interior, at least launched.
