How to make a double layer coffee candle. Master Class

As you might have guessed, I started preparations for the New Year. How to make such candles I already had in my diary somewhere. But I still couldn't find a suitable shape. In this master class, everything is very well and simply written about molds. So, the master class is double. I will need to be reminded of this method.

MK CANDLE "VALENTINKA"
Author of the article Yana Svatko

What you need:

For a candle:

  • - candle paraffin. You can melt old cinders or cheap commercial candles. Or candle mass from specialized stores;
  • - a wick in a specialist store. If you are going to melt shop candles, then take the wick from them.
  • - coffee or any other decor. For example: dried lemon or apple rings, beans, peas, cinnamon sticks, shells, pebbles.
  • - stationery wax pencils - if you want a colored candle. We will dye paraffin with them. IMPORTANT: pay attention that they are exactly wax, and not plastic (they look similar). Or a special dye.

For the mold:

  • cardboard (can be from an old box)
  • a couple of sheets of paper
  • 1-2 tin cans (from corn, olives)
  • baking paper / tracing paper
  • a container that can be placed on the stove (ladle, saucepan)
  • pliers or needle nose pliers
  • a pair of sticks (for example, skewers),
  • lighters (preferably 2-3)
  • rag.

Equipment:

knife, scissors, glue or double-sided tape, awl, ruler, you can use a stapler if convenient.

If you want to decorate the candle after making, then prepare all sorts of suitable decorations. I have it hemp rope and coffee beans.

There are two ways to make such a candle - simpler and more complicated. I'll show you both.

For more complicated things, we take cardboard and cut off 2 strips about 10cm wide (this is the approximate height of the future candle) + 1cm. On one strip, we retreat this 1cm and draw it along with an awl - the place of the fold. For this edge we make a fashionable "haircut" with scissors (see photo). We divide both strips in half (a ruler came in handy) and here we draw an awl (or something sharp) - the place of the fold. Ta-dam:

Now we take a piece of paper, bend it in half and cut out an even symmetrical heart. Now we outline the outline on the cardboard. Cut out.

The cardboard strip is the future sidewall. The length of the cardboard strip should be equal to or greater than the circumference of the heart:

Now we glue. We fold back the fringes and coat them with glue and will glue them together. We glue the walls to the bottom-heart, starting from the sharp tip of the heart (we make a fold), with allowances outward, so that the bottom remains even. We cut off the excess, we get:

To glue the hollow of the heart, take a small strip of cardboard 10x2cm, bend it in half lengthwise and glue it. So that the heart does not "crawl" (if you have reached this stage, you will understand), I fix the hollow with a stapler, but I think you can do it in any other way:

From the second strip of cardboard we make the inner part of the candle. It will be the same heart, only without a bottom and a smaller size (which is much faster and easier):

Note: consider the simple option that I talked about at the beginning. For this options, you can use the canned food jar for the outer shape. And the inner one is also made of cardboard. All you need is a stapler. Pay attention to the fact that the walls of the can are not riveted and the edges are as even as possible (otherwise it will be difficult to pull out the candle later)

Now baking paper comes in handy. So that later the candle can be easily removed from the mold, we wrap it from the inside.

Insert the inner part in the center. Pour our filler (for example coffee) between the formed walls.

Preparing the candle mass. We lay a rag, take a knife and a candle and with the sharp tip of a knife, as it were, divide it along. Be careful not to hit the wick. It must be carefully removed, we need it. In this case, the candle will crumble, we clean the wick from the pieces remaining on it, if we need to stab it a little more with a knife. Just for melting convenience.

You need to heat the paraffin in a water bath so that it does not ignite from the hot walls of the dishes. Be very careful. The water bath does not give such a high temperature. We put a container with a small amount of water on the fire, put a tin jar inside, into which we pour crushed candles. Usually about 4-5 pieces are enough. thin ordinary candles per heart.

If everything does not fit at once, do not worry, the candle melts, decreases in volume, and you add the rest.
As you can see in the photo, the jar has a "nose", I made it with the help of thin-nose pliers, but you can do without it. Only pour it gently afterwards.

Dyes.
While the candle is melting, you can add dye there if you want a colored candle. Wax crayons, one per serving. You can mix several colors to get the desired shade. Mix the mass with a stick.

Now for the important point.

We take out the jar from the water. Dip excess water. We pour paraffin just a little on the bottom of the company and try to distribute it evenly. Let it cool slightly (put on a windowsill or in the refrigerator). We do this so that the inner part of the mold is glued with wax to the bottom and at the next stage the wax does not flow inside.

Now pour the molten mass between the walls of the mold:

Let's freeze. To the state of "not flowing, but still warm". Carefully take out the inner mold. This may seem difficult at first, as it is stuck to the walls and to the bottom. I tear it mercilessly and pull it out piece by piece. It's harder from the bottom, but thin-nose pliers help me there (it doesn't slip).

Now we take a stick, and we wind one end of the wick on it. Since our future candle will be thicker, it makes sense to twist the wick from the two drawn from the candles. We put the stick across the form, the wick must be lowered to the very bottom, but so that it hangs evenly.

Pour the remaining paraffin wax (which can be reheated) into the center of the candle. Let it cool completely (I put it on the windowsill, it is very cold this time of year) and do not touch the wick so that it does not slide on its side.

Now you need to get the candle out of the mold. From cardboard it is not a problem at all - we wrinkle the shape a little in our hands so that the baking paper lags behind the cardboard. It's the same with the tin. The main thing is patience and the candle will come out by itself.

You can stop at this stage, but I love the greater texture. Therefore, I arm myself with a lighter. We put the candle on a piece of paper, sit down more comfortably, set it on fire, bring it to the wall of the candle, trying to touch it with the blue, not the red flame.

From the red-haired decor to smoke (pay attention to the grains, I gaped while photographing):

That is why another candle will not work instead of a lighter. It is recommended to do it with a hot hairdryer, but my hairdryer is not hot enough. In a word, look for the best way for yourself. So far, I am planning to buy a burner.

That's it, the candle is almost ready. It may happen that after cooling down in the center around the wick a hole is formed. I collect the wax that I melted from the walls, melt it again, refill it in the center. When it hardens, I smooth the edge with a knife (until smooth) and warm fingers and a cloth (until it shines and removes the marks from the knife). I add decor. Ta-dam:

The second candle did not level the top - it turned out to be a beautiful heart, I liked it and I left it that way :)

P.S. There is another option, in which the candle is made upside down, and then the bottom of the jar-shaped is the top of the finished candle. A hole is preliminarily made in the bottom of the form, a wick is threaded into it with a margin. The rest is the same. After removing from the mold, the candle is turned over and the excess tails of the wick are cut off (on one side end-to-end, on the other, leaving approx. 1 cm). In this case, the surface will be perfectly flat.

Individuality in your interior design will always be its winning side. Nothing gives home comfort to an apartment like things made by the hands of the owners. And if until now you could not boast of such fruits of needlework, you have a great opportunity to fix it. We suggest you try to make candles with your own hands.

Candles are a wonderful souvenir that, on occasion, can brighten the atmosphere of any family holiday. Candles have long been an attribute of celebrations, significant dates, romantic evenings. Yes, just to sit in silence, listen to your favorite music under the thrill of a gentle spark - this is so sometimes not enough.

For some, a candle is nothing more than a cute decor item. And there is nothing wrong with this either, such products serve as a wonderful decoration in the house. But scented candles can become a real psychotherapeutic tool: they will help create the necessary atmosphere for relaxation, take a person into the world of dreams and pleasant memories.

Moreover, the candle is a wonderful gift. The warmth of your hands and the light of a beautiful candle will be the best wishes for a loved one. Candles will decorate even the most modest setting, accentuate the color scheme of your apartment, and will testify to the great taste of the owner.

Needless to say, mothers who are on parental leave can even earn extra money on such a pleasant activity. And not only mothers - everyone who is fascinated by the process of creating a candle. And those who wish to acquire such man-made beauty, rest assured, there will be.

So, we have many reasons to finally start our creative process. But to make a candle, we need to stock up on certain materials and tools.

Candle Making Materials

Indeed, how to make candles with your own hands without special materials? In our work, we will need:

  • Vessel for melting wax
  • Candle Molds
  • Pot (for a water bath)
  • Sticks (the first is to fasten the wick, the second is to stir the wax)
  • Decorative items to decorate the product
  • Wax crayons
  • Household candles or old candle stubs
  • Paper threads (100% cotton)

All this will help us create, if not a wax masterpiece, then a wonderful original candle. So here we go!

Candle wick

Now we have to learn how to make a candle wick with our own hands. We make a gel, paraffin or wax candle, in any case we need a wick. In order to make it, we need natural cotton thread without any impurities there. Alternatively, use colored floss as a wick. It looks very cute and unusual.

The thickness and texture of the wick depend, first of all, on the thickness of the part of the candle that should burn out. For example, there are candles that are partially made of combustible materials. Only the core burns through them.

For those who are going to cast a candle from wax, you need to take thick threads and twist them not very tightly. Paraffin and gel candles, on the contrary, need a tight weave of threads (otherwise, the wick will smoke when burning).

Wick for wax candles

Wick for gel candles

You need to be careful about the following detail: if the candle is painted with wax crayons, small chips can clog the wick without dissolving in paraffin or wax. In general, there are a lot of nuances in this matter, be prepared for the fact that choosing a wick for a certain type of candle will have to be a trial and error method.

If you take a very thick wick, excessive melting of the candle is possible, and this is fraught with soot. If you make a very thin wick, it will constantly extinguish.

There are several options for designing a wick: you can crochet it, braid it with a pigtail, twist it with a string. Before pouring the candle, you can soak the thread with wax, but you can do both pouring and impregnation at the same time.

If you don't want to waste time making a wick, then use a wick from ready-made household candles.

Candle mold

In this matter, your imagination plays a decisive role. You can use any plastic or metal shapes that you find cute and appropriate for making candles. Do not limit yourself to ready-made molds: yoghurt packaging, cream jars, bakeware, cans, glasses or mugs that can withstand high heat can also play their role perfectly. Some even use a milk tetra pack as a mold for a future candle.

Candles are poured into tea cups

Candles are made in eggshell

But for your first experience, you better not philosophize: take something simple. For example, a glass of yogurt. Be sure to remove the paper label first, as it may catch fire.

We take our glass and in the middle of its bottom with a thick needle we pierce a hole - we insert a ready-made wick there. Tie the wick on the back of the cup with a knot. In this very place of the knot will be the top of our candle, because its filling will be "upside down": the knot minimizes the flow of paraffin, stearin or wax through the hole we made at the bottom of the glass.

Move on. We need to put any stick across the glass - a toothpick, brush or pencil. On it we need to tie the other end of the wick. It should be positioned strictly in the center in an upright, level position. So, you guarantee yourself that the candle will burn evenly and melt.

Candle coloring

You will get really beautiful candles provided that you do not forget to paint them. The easiest and most acceptable way is to color the candles using simple children's wax crayons.

Do you think it would be wiser to use watercolor or gouache? Indeed, the palette of these colors is richer than the color variety of crayons. But the problem is that both gouache and watercolor are made on a water-soluble basis: these dyes are unsuitable for working with a candle. They do not mix well with wax or paraffin, they can float in them of incomprehensible color in flakes, and then completely settle to the bottom.

The decor of candles can and should be carried out only with dyes on a fat-soluble basis, and these are our wax crayons.

Often, many craftsmen use lipstick or shadows to decorate candles. If you are not sorry for your cosmetics, please, you can follow their example. But rest assured that there will be a lipstick scent all over the house, which is far from always pleasant. To many, this smell may seem intrusive.

If you have already undertaken to make decorative candles with your own hands, it is better to use less aggressive materials. When choosing wax crayons, we choose soft types of this dye. Candles made with pearlescent wax crayons are especially good.

If you come across hard crayons, the procedure for melting them will be difficult. And planing them is quite problematic. So, we chose a crayon, sharpened it with a grater and added these shavings to the wax stubs. Thoroughly mixed the shavings and cinders with a stick.

However, there is another color option. It is easy to find pigments of different colors in specialty stores. They can be mixed with each other, dosed. Using such pigments, you will be able to make a truly unusual, bright or delicate candle. Pigments in tablets greatly expand the possibility of obtaining interesting shades.

You should not give up the use of dyes: they give the candle a unique look, create a unique pattern.

Candle filling

The wick is already ready, it's time to fill it. We need a regular tin can. It will have to be flattened a little to form a kind of nose. This is necessary in order to facilitate the process of pouring out the molten material.

It is better to grease the previously prepared form with a thin layer of dishwashing liquid or plain vegetable oil. Both remedies are equally good.

We need to put the fragments of the candles in the jar (the candles must be of the same quality). If we are going to make a paraffin or wax candle, you can take a saucepan or ladle for melting, which is not too bad. In any case, this container should fit into the pot that will be used as a water bath. Basically, you can use anything you like except glassware.

So, we fill a saucepan with water, boil water, and then immerse a container with wax or paraffin there. This will melt our material.

When the material and shavings are completely melted, you can start pouring the candle.

Fill the bottom of our mold with wax, let it cool. Do not rush to pour the entire mold at once, otherwise a lot of wax or paraffin may leak out through the hole in the bottom. Fill the wax in layers, what has flowed out, we send it back for remelting. When the candle is already filled completely, it needs to be cooled. The temperature should be at room temperature.

Many people make a mistake at this point: they are trying to speed up the cooling process by placing a candle in the freezer. In this case, it may spread unevenly.

It is not critical if we fill the candle upside down. If you are using a different method, then you should leave a little wax in order to fill in the indentations next to the wick. And after drying, they will definitely appear.

When the temperature of the candle is already equal to the temperature of the room, you need to untie the knot at the bottom of the mold. At this moment, we remove the product itself by gently pulling the wick.

If you cannot do this, the form can be cut. Or put it in the refrigerator for a minute, and then put it under hot water for a few seconds.

After that, cut off the excess part of the wick, leaving the tip at 1 cm. If ugly seams remain from the mold, they can be removed with hot water. But with these manipulations, the candle may dim, its shine may fade. Therefore, the best solution would be to choose a candle shape that does not contain seams.

DIY scented candles

Making scented candles with your own hands is quite possible. In particular, this should be done by those who are a true fan of aromatherapy. In order for you to get exactly aroma candles, you need to add some essential oils before pouring into wax. The choice of oil depends on your taste: you can add any oil, except perhaps you shouldn't take the pink one. After all, its smell when burning will be suffocating, heavy.

It's great if the decor of the aroma candle matches the plant, the oil of which we use. For example, taking lavender oil as the basis for the aroma, pink or lilac dyes should prevail in the candle decor.

Using laurel or mint oil, it is better to decorate the candle with green shades.

Vanilla or cinnamon will be organic in the warm, beige-brown tones of the candle.

Not only can oils make your candle aroma, regular coffee is a strong and pleasant aroma.

In principle, it is not so difficult to achieve the scent of a candle. Aromatic oils are added to paraffin, wax or gel. And then the process of making a scented candle is no different from creating an ordinary candle.

Experimenters are advised to mix oils: an unusual bouquet of aromas is guaranteed to you. If you are afraid to "cheat" and synthesize incompatible smells, look at the perfume recipes. Follow their directions, just don't add rose oil.

Gel candles

Now let's talk about how to make your own gel candles. In order for us to get gel candles, it is better to use ready-made gel wax. On the packages with it, the recipe for creating candles is often written, and you can use it.

For those who are used to doing everything themselves, the following recipe can help:

  • 5 g gelatin
  • 2 g tannin
  • 20 ml water
  • 35 ml glycerin

First, we need to dissolve the tannin in the glycerin during the heating process. We continue to heat, adding the remains of glycerin and gelatin to the composition. Add water to the resulting clear solution. Bring the mixture to a boil. Some cloudiness of the solution should not scare you: it will soon disappear. Until the water has completely evaporated, you need to boil the solution.

Essential oil can also be added to gel candles, this does not contradict the recipe. A separate, especially pleasant process, decorating gel candles. At the bottom of any transparent container, we freely lay decorative elements: beads, beads, pebbles, shells, sequins, coffee beans, dry plant stems or flowers. Then we fill everything with gel transparent wax. This candle looks just incredible: transparent, delicate, with a magical pattern inside.

Coffee candles

Making decorative candles is also not difficult. For example, you can make an original coffee candle. The decor is naturally coffee beans. The principle of operation is as follows: insert a small one into a large form. Between the walls of the two forms, you need to pour coffee beans, and then fill them with candle mass.

As soon as the mass with coffee beans has frozen, the walls need to be blown off with a hot hair dryer. Thanks to this, excess paraffin will drain off, and the coffee beans will be clearly visible.

Now the outer layer of coffee beans is ready. We put it back into the mold, fill it with paraffin / wax of a different color from the inside.

Coffee candles can be as follows:

Sea candles can be made in the same way: instead of grains, they will contain pebbles or seashells. As an option - transparent gel candles with small stones or coffee grains.

Candle Decorating Options

How else can you decorate a handmade candle? The first way to make your candle stand out is to use unusual, unexpected shapes. Sometimes an interesting shape can be more advantageous than even the most elaborate decor. A wonderful element of candle decor is all sorts of glass coasters.

In a specialist store, you can find special decals for decoration. Or decoupage is a great way to decorate candles. By the way, it is very fashionable among professional candlestickers. Most often, napkins are used as the basis for decoupage. Do not forget about safety precautions: use a special varnish for candles.

For lovers of original decor, the following option is suitable:

Before pouring, arrange shells, pieces of dried fruit, cinnamon, seeds, dried flowers around the edges of the mold. Or let it be coffee beans in an ensemble with rhinestones and beads. But in the latter case, it would be more appropriate to talk about the decor of the finished product: we insert decorative elements into melted paraffin / wax.

An already frozen candle can be pasted over with bamboo or cinnamon sticks. To them you can add star anise stars or all the same coffee beans. It will be a beautiful decoration for scented candles.

If you are using dried plants (or any other decorative items that can become flammable), the wick of the candle should be thin so that the candle melts only in the middle.

In principle, if you have the opportunity to turn to specialized stores for material, you will acquire a lot of useful tools there. For example, markers and outlines are sold there, they do not burn, and during the smoldering of the wick they melt together with wax / paraffin.

If you don't want to collect old candle stubs, use paraffin balls or candle gel. In specialized stores, you can even find ready-made wicks (with a metal holder). For floating candles, you can purchase specially formulated wax.

Today, the imagination of a creative person is practically not constrained by anything: the prices for materials for making candles "do not bite", the process is exciting and not as long as it might seem. Having once created a beautiful candle with your own hands, you are unlikely to deny yourself the pleasure of experimenting more.

Today we will be making gifts for the holidays. We will make candles with our own hands. After all, what could be better than giving a piece of your warmth to your loved one :)

I tried to write in as much detail as possible, for such "users" as myself :)

For the candle itself, we need:

  • - regular candles, colored or white. You can melt old cinder or buy it cheaper at the store. For the advanced - candle mass from specialized stores;
  • - wax pencils from office supplies. Please note that they are just wax, not plastic (they look similar). For the advanced - special dye from specialty stores;
  • - wick. We will use the one in the candles. you can also make a pigtail using threads, such as a floss, or buy a wick at a specialist store.
  • - coffee or any other decor. It can be food (pasta, beans, peas, cinnamon sticks) or any other beautiful things that are available (shells, pebbles, dried flowers, and even cloves and bolts - for men it will be relevant).

From scrap materials:
Knife, scissors, glue or double-sided tape, stapler (optional), awl, ruler, cardboard (you can use an old box), a couple of sheets of paper, 1-2 tin cans (from corn, olives), baking paper / tracing paper, container , which can be put on the stove (ladle, iron mug, small saucepan), pliers or thin-nose pliers, a couple of sticks (for example, skewers), lighters (preferably 2-3), a cloth.
Well, decor, if you want to decorate the candle after production. I have it with hemp rope and all the same coffee.

Do not be alarmed that so much is needed - after all, you have almost all of this at home :)
Let's get started?
There are two ways to make a candle - simpler and more complex. I'll show you both here.
Ta-dam:

Now we take a piece of paper, bend it in half and cut out the heart, as valentines were once cut out. We unfold and here it is - a symmetrical heart. Now we take it and outline it on the cardboard. Cut out.

I do everything by eye, for especially accurate ones - you can measure everything with a ruler: the length of the cardboard strip should be equal to or greater than the circumference of the heart:

Now we glue. If you, like me, do not like to fiddle with glue, then until the time of cutting the serifs for our designer, you just need to stick a strip of double-sided tape on this place and cut it out with it. Or now grease this place with glue. We glue the walls to the bottom-heart, starting from the sharp tip of the heart (here we have a fold), with allowances outward, so that the bottom remains even. We cut off the excess, we get:

To glue the hollow of the heart, take a small strip of cardboard 10x2cm, bend it with an awl and a ruler in half lengthwise and glue it with glue or tape. So that the heart does not "crawl" (if you have reached this stage, you will understand what I mean :), I fix the hollow with a stapler, but I think you can do it in any other way:

From the second strip of cardboard we make the same heart, only without a bottom and a smaller one (which is much faster and easier):

Now a moment - for a simpler option (remember, we said at the beginning) you can use a jar of something and a piece of cardboard. All you need is a stapler. Please note that the edges of the jar are as even as possible (otherwise it will be difficult to pull out the candle later):

Now baking paper comes in handy. So that later the candle can be easily removed from the mold, we wrap it from the inside with this paper and insert one element into another. Pour our filler (for example coffee) between the formed walls. In this case, we press the inner heart to the bottom so that the coffee does not fall under the cardboard and the shape does not warp. I also put some coffee in the center, but this is not necessary:

We put our blanks aside and take up the candle mass. We lay a rag, take a knife and a candle and with the sharp tip of a knife, as it were, divide it along. At the same time, it crumbles, we clean the wick from the pieces remaining on it, if we need to stab it a little more with a knife:

We are preparing a steam bath - we turn on the stove, put a container with a small amount of water on it, put a tin jar inside, into which we pour the crumbled candles. 4 pieces were enough for me. thin ordinary candles per heart. It looks like this for me:

If everything does not fit at once, do not worry, the candle melts and you add the rest.
As you can see in the photo, the jar has a "nose", I made it with the help of thin-nose pliers, but you can do without it, just pour it carefully later.
While the candle is melting, you can add a dye there - wax pencils, one per serving, you can mix several colors to get the desired shade :) Mix everything with a stick.
Now for the important point. We take the pliers / thin-nose pliers comfortably in the hand and take the jar out of the water with them. You can replace them with an oven mitt. Dip excess water. We pour just a little on the bottom and try to distribute it evenly.

This may seem difficult at first, as it is stuck to the sides and bottom. I tear it up shamelessly and take it out piece by piece. It is heavier from the bottom, but thin-nose pliers help me there (it does not slip :). We took out all the cardboard, take a stick and wind one end of the wick on it. By the way, you can twist the wick from the two that we removed from the candles, since our future candle will be thicker. We put the stick across the mold, wick to the very bottom:

Top up to the top. Let it cool completely (I put it on the windowsill, it is very cold this time of year). Now you need to get the candle out of the mold. From cardboard it is not a problem at all - we wrinkle the shape a little in our hands so that the baking paper lags behind the cardboard. It's the same with the tin. The main thing is patience and the candle will come out by itself. We remove the paper. What we have:

You can stop at this stage, but I love the greater texture. Therefore, I arm myself with a lighter. We put the candle on a piece of paper, sit down more comfortably, set it on fire, bring it to the wall of the candle, trying to touch it with the blue, not the red flame.

From the red-haired decor to smoke (pay attention to the grains, I gaped while photographing):

That is why another candle will not work instead of a lighter. It is recommended to do this with a hot hairdryer, but my hairdryer is not hot enough: (In short, look for the best way for yourself. I am so, but I plan to buy a burner.

There is another option, which as a result assumes that the bottom of the jar-shape is the top of the finished candle. in this case, a hole is made in the bottom, a wick is threaded into it, otherwise everything is the same. After removing from the mold, the candle is turned over and the excess tails of the wick are cut off (on one side end-to-end, on the other, leaving approx. 1 cm). In this case, the surface will be perfectly flat. Well, or the same as at the bottom of the mold :)

Go for it! You are talented!

Master Class. DIY coffee bean candle

Purpose: interior decoration, gifts for family and friends.

Target: development of creative abilities of teachers, parents.

Tasks: to form teachers' artistic taste, the desire to do something unusual with their own hands.

Decorative candles is a pretty popular gift. They come in a variety of designs, flavored or regular. You can make decorative scented candles with coffee beans. To do this, you need a little patience and a desire to make the New Year's holiday cozier, warmer and kinder.

In crafts from coffee beans, as in everything that you do on your own, there is a piece of your soul and the warmth of your hands.

This is the kind of coffee candle we will make

Required material:

Paraffin candles (one large candle takes 4 ordinary candles, which are sold in a hardware store, the price of one is 8.5 rubles)

Coffee beans

Cotton thread for wick

Different boxes for the shape of a candle

For aroma vanillin or flavored oils

Wax crayons

For decoration ribbons, jute twine

Wooden skewers

Iron ladle and a jar of olives

Step-by-step candle making:

1. Cut off the juice box to a height of 12 cm, and twist the thread for the wick in two folds or crochet a chain. You can just take the one that we take out of the broken candle.

2. Prepare paraffin wax.

To do this, you need to lay the table and prepare disposable napkins if you suddenly get a drop of paraffin somewhere.

We cut the candles, remove the wicks from them.

Then we cut into pieces finer (two and a half candles for the first portion with coffee beans, the rest for the second portion, which we will paint with wax crayons)

3. Prepare the candle mold.

At the bottom of the boxes, exactly in the middle, we make punctures for the wick with an awl. Lubricate the inner surfaces of the boxes with vegetable oil so that the finished candle can be removed without problems.

We put the wick into a hole in the mold, tie a knot outside, fixing the wick with tape, and at the same time protecting the paraffin from flowing out of the mold.

4. We fall asleep between two boxes of coffee beans, hold tightly the box, which stands in the middle.

5. Pour the paraffin into a tin can and put in a water bath, on a slow fire, do not let the paraffin boil, mix with a skewer. Add a pinch of vanillin for flavor. (I flattened the jar a little with pliers so that it was convenient to pour liquid paraffin)

Coffee beans are a non-trivial material that is used to decorate and create original handicrafts. For beginners, it's best to start with simple compositions. We offer a master class on decorating a paraffin or wax candle with coffee beans.

When roasted, the coffee beans will give the candle a subtle coffee aroma.

It is best to use an unscented candle for decoration, as aromatic oils may not match the coffee notes. For such a decor, candles of milk, white, beige, chocolate colors are best suited. If you decide to buy a candle scent, then opt for vanilla or caramel scent.

For manufacturing you will need:

  • whole bean coffee
  • unscented candle
  • wax glue for decoupage by candles
  • glue brush

Manufacturing process:

1. Wax glue for decoupage candlesticks will melt from the heat along with wax or paraffin, so this is the best option for creating this craft. For example, if you use super glue, harmful fumes can be released during combustion.

2. Choose roasted coffee beans without chips or defects.

3. Use a brush to apply decoupage to the bottom of the candle. Glue the grains with the flat side to the surface. Try not to be distracted, as the candle will melt a little from the touch of your hands, and the grains will creep. For convenience, start from the bottom.

4. Place the candle on a flat surface. Glue the grains row by row, working your way up.

5. Alternatively, warm the edges of the candle and drown the coffee beans around the perimeter. In this case, you do not need glue for decoupage.
