Parquet polishing tools and accessories

For self-sanding parquet, you need to have 3 sanding machines that can sand the floors as well as possible, with your zero skills. Equipment can be rented on bail. Do not look for the cheapest rental, otherwise you can get a poorly working machine. Look for an office that equips not only equipment, but also varnish chemistry, abrasives.

  1. Belt sander - Lagler Hummel and its analogs (do not take CO-206 - you will ruin your floor with this machine).
  2. Three-disc surface grinder - Lagler Trio or CO-318 (these machines are exactly the same).
  3. Angle machine - Lagler Flip or analogs.
  4. Eccentric manual vibrating machine with a diameter of 120 mm. (For local elimination of the detected pits and marks from the draw frame).
  5. Putty spatula 20-30 cm long. Small spatula.
  6. Fishing rod, roller handle and varnishing roller. Small roller with handle.
  7. Vacuum cleaner.
  8. Washing mop.

Abrasive materials

Abrasive materials are needed for the technique. You can buy them at the firm. We recommend that you take an abrasive with a margin so that it will be enough for you. Hand over surplus on return of equipment. For each machine, you will be given the desired type of abrasive, you will not get confused.

Parquet sanding always starts with a draw frame, then an angle and then a three-disc machine. At the end of grinding, minor flaws are eliminated with an eccentric manual machine.

And so, if the parquet is old and in poor condition with filled with varnish, then such parquet must be sanded with numbers P24 or P36, and after sanding the varnish, it is necessary to increase the numbers by P40, P60 and P80. If the parquet is not badly damaged, then sanding the parquet can be started with P40 abrasive. It is possible to stop grinding the parquet with a tape machine on the P60 abrasive, since the three-disc machine will grind the floor until the marks are removed.

Abrasive numbers P40, P60, P80, P100 and P120 can be installed on a three-disc machine. If the parquet has a lot of grooves and pits, then start sanding the floor with P40 and finish with P100 or P120.

The abrasive can be placed on the angle machine, starting with P24 (P36 or P40), then P60 and P80.

Parquet sanding procedure

First, the parquet is sanded with a tape machine, which removes the old varnish and more or less levels the floor plane. We get it to the P60 abrasive. Then we grind the old varnish with an angle machine. After that we putty the parquet with a wide stainless trowel. We are waiting for an hour. After the putty is dry, we continue to grind the parquet with a tape machine number P60, then we continue to work with the corner. After the putty is removed, we go through the finishing passes with a three-disc machine from the P40 or P60 number, finishing grinding with the P100 or P120 number. After sanding is finished, you must carefully examine the floor for pits and marks. If any are revealed, correct it manually with an eccentric machine, and possibly start the surface grinder again.

How to walk along the parquet with cars

The initial draw frame passes should be made at an angle of 45 degrees in relation to the dies. Then turn around and finish the opposite side. Then turn around 90 degrees and continue sanding. You should have a cross. A cross path will level the floor. Keep this cross when increasing the abrasive numbers.

The three-disc and angle machine can be walked as you like.

Quality control of grinding

You can check the quality of parquet polishing in a simple way, take a flashlight, put it on the floor and illuminate the surface. The diffused light will reveal all your shortcomings, which it is not too late to eliminate. This is especially true of near-wall places where sanding occurs worst.

The floor must be thoroughly vacuumed before varnishing. Do not wash!

Parquet varnishing

Before varnishing the parquet floor, and even before sanding it, you need to study the instructions for applying the varnish that you purchase in advance. It is advisable to purchase varnish in the same place where you will rent equipment. Check with the manager, he will tell you what they have in stock and how to apply it.

When self-varnishing parquet, it is necessary to purchase water-soluble varnishes, it is easier to work with them and it is easy to restore the surface if something goes wrong. Such varnishes should be applied in at least 3 layers, preferably in 4 or 5 layers. Before finishing varnishing, interlayer sanding with a P150 mesh should be performed, then cleaning with a vacuum cleaner and a washing mop.

Parquet belt sanders


They are used for sanding and scraping large areas and for working on rough surfaces. In turn, this makes working with it easier, because no additional effort is required. They come in different capacities, but the higher it is, the more work can be performed without interruption.

To increase the specificity of tasks, belt sanders are equipped with abrasive belt speed regulators. It can be easily removed independently, and the new one is installed no less reliably. Depending on the function of the abrasive belt (for scraping or for grinding), it has different widths and grit sizes. Some of the more expensive models already have automatic belt centering.

Angle grinders


They are designed to handle hard-to-reach areas. Vibrating Sanders


They are of the surface grinding type. But due to their versatility, they can be used not only for fine grinding, but also for rough primary processing. They work on the principle of reciprocating movements. The greater the vibration amplitude of the rectangular sole, the higher the speed of work. But the higher the speed, the lower the quality, therefore, a low amplitude of movement is chosen for finishing.

As consumables, we use rectangular abrasive sheets of various grain sizes, dusting meshes and abrasive cloths.

Eccentric Sanders


They combine the principle of operation of a grinding wheel and a vibration machine. The result is a highly productive tool. The combination of motion and vibration results in an excellent parquet finish.

The performance is regulated by the diameter of the vibrating circle. But, the smaller it is, the higher the processing quality, and vice versa. The choice of speed is also important, a higher purpose for coarse grinding. When working with parquet, it is necessary to choose a low speed. The varnish with which it is coated is very sensitive to heat and abrasion.

Many grinders have a dust bag, which can significantly reduce the amount of dust during operation, but does not completely eliminate it.

How to sand parquet with your own hands

Preparing parquet for sanding

Before starting work, all furniture is taken out of the room. Now you can carefully examine the parquet flooring completely, revealing all the shortcomings. For a high-quality result, it is required to tap each parquet plank. If the sound turned out to be dull, it means that it has come unstuck, and a void has formed under it. It is not difficult to fix this, it is enough to drill a thin hole in it, pump parquet glue through a construction syringe, press down with a load on top and let it dry.

The surface must be thoroughly washed, remove all screws and nails. Otherwise, you can quickly damage the abrasive paper.

Tools and material for polishing parquet

To sand the parquet with your own hands you will need:

  • parquet grinder with the ability to cycle. The tool is expensive, but affordable if you rent it. They process the main area of \u200b\u200bthe parquet;
  • hand-held belt or angle grinder for hard-to-reach places;
  • manual cycle. Useful for scraping parquet in very difficult to access places;
  • several strips of sandpaper. The lower the number, the coarser the grain of the skin. To work with parquet you will need No. 120,80,60,40;
  • putty for wood, for covering cracks in parquet;
  • high quality parquet varnish;

Parquet scraping

For scraping, you will need a belt-type sander with abrasive paper # 40. With this machine, the main area of \u200b\u200bparquet is processed with an indentation of about 10 cm from the wall. Manual belt or disk sanders for parquet are used along the walls.

Tip: Do not use hand-held sanders to grind the entire floor area. This will lead to the formation of pits and other irregularities.

The purpose of this stage of work is to remove the old varnish and level the surface of the parquet. Grinding is done first along the room, and then across. It is especially important to closely monitor the condition of the abrasive cloth. If it is badly worn, it will burn the parquet, leaving dark spots on it. A three-meter rule is used to check the looped floor. Irregularities under it should not exceed 2 mm.

Rough scrapping always leaves scratches and notches on the floor, which is normal. They are removed by the following grinding with skins No. 60, and then No. 80. Work is also carried out - far and wide. An exception is when the parquet is laid parallel to the walls. In this case, it is polished only along the laying line. And when laying with a herringbone - diagonally. At this stage, the unevenness of the parquet should not exceed 1 mm.

Parquet putty

When the parquet is sanded with 80 sandpaper, it is putty. The putty for these works is selected according to the texture and color similar to wood. Water-based acrylic putty is often used or the sawdust left over from scraping is mixed with parquet varnish. Using a metal spatula, the gaps between the slats are filled with the mixture.

Finishing sanding of parquet

After the putty has hardened, the parquet is sanded with finishing abrasive paper # 120. It will be necessary to relieve the pressure of the grinder on the floor using a special adjusting screw, which is equipped with all modern models.

The direction of grinding is exactly the same as in the previous stages of work. As a result, the parquet should be perfectly smooth, which is quite easy to check by running your hand over it. Now it is important to remove all dust very carefully with a powerful vacuum cleaner.

On average, all these parquet sanding processes take about 6 hours.

Varnishing polished parquet

Before the start of varnishing, all windows in the room are closed to avoid drafts. The optimum temperature for work is 22-24 degrees.

Parquet is varnished in several stages:

  • a primer is applied as the first layer;
  • then, alternately three layers of varnish are applied. Grinding with a diamond mesh R-220 is performed between each layer;
  • a glossy gel is used as a finishing coat to fix the varnish.

How to choose a parquet varnish

Parquet varnishes are classified according to the degree of gloss and durability.

Haze depends on the amount of passive filler in the varnish composition. By changing the proportions, glossy, semi-matt and matt varnishes are produced. But this filler settles at the bottom, so the varnish is thoroughly mixed before application.

The durability of the varnish is selected based on the functionality of the room in which the parquet is laid. For the home, varnishes with low or medium resistance are suitable, for more crowded places they are chosen with increased abrasion resistance.

Types of varnishes:

  • Polyurethane varnishes. They are also made on the basis of solvents, acrylic or urethane. Their advantages include high elasticity, heat resistance, good adhesion properties and UV resistance. They perfectly cope with high loads, are not afraid of household chemicals and high humidity. The downside is that the polyurethane varnish glues the strips. And when moisture gets in during varnishing, it begins to foam.

  • Water-soluble varnishes. This is a fairly new product. It hardens after evaporation of the water, forming a film. They practically do not emit harmful chemicals, and are not inferior in strength to other types of varnishes. Suitable only for rooms with a constant positive temperature. The most durable is acrylic-polyurethane varnish, and acrylic varnish will need to be renewed periodically.

  • Oil-based varnishes. These are urethane-alkyd and alkyd varnishes made from linseed or wood oil, which allows them to penetrate deeply into the wood. They do not glue the parquet planks, and the coating is non-slip. But they are toxic and dry for a long time.
  • Acid-curing varnishes. They are made on the basis of directly varnish and hardener. It has the highest wear-resistant qualities, undemanding to temperature and humidity. Disadvantages are strong odor and strong sticking of the planks.

Dust-free parquet sanding

The only way to renew the old parquet is to scrape, cover up the cracks, sand and varnish. But many parquet floor owners are in no hurry to return it to its former beauty. And this is due to the prospect of dusty and noisy work. Indeed, wood dust, which is formed when the old coating is removed, penetrates everywhere and eats into furniture and curtains.

But all these works can be done without dust. Most modern models of parquet grinders are equipped with dust collectors. If we add to this the absence of drafts in the room, then the dust will practically not fly away. For additional protection, a static film is used, which covers the walls of the room in which the work is performed.

Grinders with powerful dust collectors, which are equipped with high-quality filters, are very expensive and are available only to professional builders. If you are confident in your abilities, then you can contact one of the firms and rent a tool. It is especially important to use such machines for processing parquets made of valuable wood species - wenge or walnut. This is due to the fact that the dust of these wood species has coloring elements. Therefore, when it settles on furniture or walls, it can paint them, but it will be almost impossible to clean them.

Of course, the grinder will not be able to completely collect dust during operation, but still most of it settles in the dust collectors. This means that they are perfect for the restoration of old parquet in already finished rooms.

Stages of polishing parquet

  • initial grinding with a belt (drum) type machine, which allows you to remove the old protective coating;
  • grinding with an angle grinder in hard-to-reach places (near walls, in corners, under radiators, etc.);
  • basic grinding with a surface grinder using abrasives of various grain sizes;
  • parquet putty, which consists in filling the gaps with a specially prepared composition: fine wood dust mixed with the base putty;
  • final grinding, which is performed by a surface grinder;
  • in hard-to-reach places, final grinding is performed with a vibration device or manual cycle;
  • cleaning the floor surface with a powerful vacuum cleaner;
  • initial application of varnish, by agreement with the customer, it can be done twice;
  • intermediate grinding, necessary to give the surface uniformity and eliminate defects, for example, air bubbles formed when the varnish comes into contact with unprotected wood, or raised wood "pile";
  • finishing varnish.

A Trio surface grinder is required to fully sand parquet flooring. With the help of it the parquet is sanded with different types of abrasive paper, which makes it smoother and more even. When the parquet is almost ready for varnishing (80% of the work), you can start to putty.

For the preparation of the putty mass, a fine fraction of wood dust is used. As a rule, it is taken from the dust collector of the grinder and mixed with a special base compound for puttying.

In this case, a solvent-based "base" is used, which after drying has excellent strength and resistance to drying out.

When puttingtying, the master rubs the composition into the parquet with a special wide, spring-loaded spatula. With this technique, the filler composition fills wide and thin gaps very deeply.

In order to remove excess putty from the surface of the parquet, the Trio machine is again required, which will remove them and prepare the parquet for varnishing.

For the finishing preparation of parquet in hard-to-reach places, a vibration machine is used. We use professional Bosch machines.

After the parquet floor is ready for varnishing, it must be thoroughly cleaned of dust with a powerful vacuum cleaner.

Applying the first coat of varnish is a very crucial stage in the work. Applying the varnish in an even, uniform layer is not an easy task.

The difficulty lies in the rapid penetration of the first layer into the wood. If the varnish layer is uneven, sagging, streaking and staining may occur.

Application of the second layer of varnish, preferably within 40-90 minutes after the first.

The second layer of varnish is applied in the same even layer as the first. On average, 80-120 grams of varnish are consumed per square meter. It depends on the porosity of the wood and the varnish itself.

After the second layer, a technological pause of 10-12 hours is required. It allows the first two layers of varnish to dry well. Now you can start intermediate sanding of the varnish. It can be carried out: manually, with a special mesh; a vibrating machine or a special single-disc grinding machine Columbus. Here we are using the Columbus machine. The choice depends on the evenness of the floor and the varnish used.

After intermediate sanding of the varnish, the floor surface is again thoroughly vacuum cleaned. If two-component varnishes are used, then a filter mesh is put on the neck of the can with varnish.

The third or any finishing layer of varnish is the final and, accordingly, indicative, requiring care and accuracy.

If you apply varnish to unpolished parquet, then all scratches and defects resulting from use will be visible on it. Therefore, high-quality polishing of parquet is a guarantee of durability and attractiveness of the floor.

But parquet polishing also has its own indications. It makes no sense to restore the old and dry coating - it is easier to replace it.

Parquet grinding scheme to remove cracks and chips.

When sanding doesn't save the day:

  • the material has crumbled so that the gaps between the parquet planks reach 5 mm;
  • the parquet was swollen due to the flood;
  • abrasion of the coating in some places and the formation of surface irregularities;
  • wood is affected by insects;
  • the appearance of mold in the room;
  • wetting of the floor due to fumes from below.

In the latter case, it is necessary to remove the old coating, lay a waterproofing film on the base and only then lay the new parquet.

All of the above problems arise due to improper laying, undried material, and severe operating conditions. Do-it-yourself sanding of the parquet eliminates defects in all other cases.

Before sanding the parquet, it is necessary to free the room from furniture and carefully clean the surface. Skirting boards should also be removed.

Looping surfaces.

Grinding work can be performed both manually and using special machines. If it is not possible to rent expensive equipment, then you can use the manual cycle. This is a metal plate with a curved and sharpened edge, which is convenient for removing old varnish.

Sanding allows you to remove the varnish to a great depth, even in the most inaccessible places. But this method of restoration is quite difficult, since you have to do everything manually.

The quality method will be the restoration of the parquet flooring by means of grinding machines.

The grinding process consists of several stages, each of which uses its own type of equipment;

  1. Drum-type parquet grinder. This mechanism removes deep layers of the old coating. This machine consists of a 200 mm wide drum and a pump that collects the chips. An abrasive material is attached to the drum, which cycles the surface.
  2. Single-disc and three-disc surface grinder. This equipment is used for fine sanding of parquet before tinting or varnishing. Such a device is very popular, as it is multifunctional and reliable. However, not everyone can afford such an expensive machine.
  3. "Shoe" - a type of grinding equipment designed for grinding hard-to-reach places: under radiators, in the corners. These machines are unified: they are equipped with abrasive wheels and a dust collector.
  4. The industrial vacuum cleaner is designed to remove dust after grinding.

Parquet renovation tools.

Sanders are handy, but expensive. They are mainly purchased by firms that deal with parquet floors. If we are talking about one-time grinding at home, then it is more expedient to rent such equipment.

To make the surface smooth, you will need additional tools and materials:

  • sandpaper;
  • putty;
  • brushes and rollers;
  • rubber spatulas;
  • sandpaper scissors;
  • keys for attaching the abrasive to the machine.

Emery paper will need different grain sizes: No. 40, 60, 80, 100, 120. For an area of \u200b\u200b20 m², one sample is consumed, which is fed into the machine.

The putty is used to fill the seams between the parquet planks. This will require about 5 kg of material. The varnish is bought at the rate of 5 kg per 10 m².

Parquet sanding technology

Grinding work begins with a rough finish. To do this, fill the machine with abrasive paper No. 40 and pass the room diagonally in two directions.

The drum sander moves diagonally from wall to wall. In this case, it is necessary to ensure that the processed tracks overlap each other by 5 cm.

Scheme of the manual cycle.

The force with which the drum of the machine works is regulated by a screw. Performing work, you need to monitor the engine load: it should neither overload nor slow down.

In country houses, voltage drops occur. If the mains voltage is low, the engine speed will decrease. If this happens, then it is necessary to reduce the pressure of the drum on the floor, and also disconnect other electrical appliances from the network.

As the sandpaper wears out, it should be changed. Coarse abrasive evens the floor and removes dirt. The roughing step should be repeated until the surface is sufficiently clean and level. When grinding, a layer of material of 0.5-07 mm is removed. If the parquet board is thinner than 2 mm, then it cannot be sanded.

After processing the main area, they begin to grind hard-to-reach places with a special “boot” device, the design of which is described above.

For finishing, use fine abrasive No. 120 and grind along the walls. At this stage, minor imperfections are eliminated, after which the surface becomes smooth and shiny.

When the parquet is restored, it can be varnished. Water-based varnishes are often used for this material. This is a mistake, as the wood can swell from moisture and delaminate.

Therefore, the parquet floor should be coated in two layers with a solvent-based varnish, followed by a water-based coating.

The ideal option would be to apply a primer to the wooden floor and then varnish it.

You can also use a hard oil-wax finish for wood floors. This substance prevents wood from swelling. Despite the excellent recommendations regarding this substance, it is rather difficult to apply it and it is much more difficult to care for such a coating.

The reasons may be as follows: the use of soft wood for the manufacture of a floor that is installed in rooms with high traffic, poor quality of installation work performed without taking into account the requirements of technology, lack of proper parquet maintenance.

To find out the degree of wear, free the floor from all types of coatings, clean it from dirt. Parquet is restored by grinding in the following cases:

  • If only minor scratches and cracks are visible, marks from furniture and pet claws.
  • Some of the dies have cracked, and large gaps have appeared between them.
  • The varnish has faded and lost its original appearance.
  • The planks loosened and began to creak. To get rid of the discomfort, fix the parts to the base with self-tapping screws, drowning the head by 2-3 mm.
  • When tapping on the planks, a dull sound is heard, which means there is a void under the board. To get rid of it, drill a hole in the tree and fill the space underneath with glue using a syringe. You can also nail down the dies or secure with self-tapping screws.
Place a long ruler on the floor and measure the gap underneath. If the gap is more than 2 mm, the strips in one area are worn out and require rework. The simplest solution to the problem is grinding, but sometimes cosmetic repairs do not help.

It is useless to carry out work if the following defects are found:

  1. If the lumber is dry and gaps of more than 5 mm appear between the planks over a large area.
  2. The plates swell after getting wet. It is impossible to restore the original condition of the floor.
  3. The coating has worn out only in one place, where it has the maximum load. For example, near the threshold or in the middle of the room. If the height differences exceed 5 mm, the flooring is dismantled.
  4. When there are deep potholes or bumps.
  5. If the plates constantly get wet from below from humid fumes. They are completely removed and the floor is waterproofed.
  6. The tree has been eaten by grinder beetles.
  7. The room is damp, mold and rot are present.

Choosing a parquet grinder

There are a huge number of varieties of devices for grinding, all of them are used in certain cases.

Drum-type products are intended for roughing, they are not able to create a smooth surface. The working tool has a cylindrical shape, an abrasive belt is fixed on it. The rigid construction presses the skin tightly to the floor, which allows removing from 1 to 1.5 mm in one pass, depending on the grain diameter. During the procedure, a lot of dust is generated, so the devices are equipped with dust collectors.

Belt-type parquet grinding machines are used for pre-grinding - leveling and stripping. The surface is processed with an abrasive belt glued into a ring, which moves along two rollers like a conveyor. The productivity of the machine depends on the speed of the working tool, from 150 to 500 rpm. Power consumption - 600-700 watts. For the private sector, the recommended tape width is 75 mm.

Disk devices are used at the final stage of repair. In these machines, the plates align one or more flat abrasive wheels. When rotating, the discs eliminate defects remaining after pre-treatment and smooth the surface with high quality. Angle machines are used to process corners, special devices are used to level the areas under radiators and pipes, which, due to their specific shape, are called "boot". In inconspicuous places, you can grind the parquet with a grinder, to which a disc with sandpaper is attached.

Vibration products are versatile and can be used for coarse and fine sanding. In such machines, a flat platform of 100x200 mm with a fixed abrasive plate acts on the floor. Eccentric devices combine the properties of vibrating and disc machines. During operation, the tool vibrates and rotates at the same time, which ensures high productivity and good processing quality. The product is used for rough and final sanding. The modes are regulated by changing the diameter of the circle, vibration and rotation speed.

When choosing machines for sanding parquet, pay attention to the following characteristics:

  • Household appliances have movable tools 7.5-10 cm wide and are designed for a processing area of \u200b\u200bup to 10 m 2. It is difficult to achieve good smoothness in large rooms, it is necessary to use professional equipment with a sanding belt 20-25 cm wide. The disadvantage of such products is their large weight (more than 100 kg) and dimensions.

  • Household equipment consumes power within 1 kW, professional equipment - more than 2.5 kW. Not all electrical wiring is designed for this load.
  • Choose devices with speed switches, RCDs, limiters that will not damage the wall during the operation.
  • The design of the devices should allow quick replacement of the sanding belts and its good tension.
  • If the parquet is made of walnut or wenge, use only machines with a dust collector for sanding. Dust from these types of trees has coloring properties, and it will be difficult to clean the walls.

Manual scraper for sanding parquet


The tool is designed for manual removal of old coatings and rough sanding in hard-to-reach places. The device is capable of replacing drum-type products if the problem area is small. Due to the high labor intensity, the cycle is not used for working on large areas.

The parquet sanding tool looks like an iron planer with a hook blade. The cutting edge is sharpened on a wedge from the outside. It is recommended to use prefabricated tools, they have very sharp blades of the correct shape. The most comfortable product has a wide handle. The ideal size of the knife is 5 cm, with a smaller size, more movements will be required.

Abrasive belt for sanding parquet


The width of the belts can be from 60 to 250 mm. The maximum size is used in powerful professional devices. In household appliances, the most popular sizes are 75 and 100 mm. For work, sandpaper of various densities is used. It is impossible to change the order of using sanding pads, because the next number removes the deeper scratches of the previous one.

Medium for using sanding skins with different grain sizes:

  • Abrasive No. 16 is intended for removing the coating created by drying oil or varnish.
  • No. 24 - for removing several layers of paint on uneven floors and for sanding old parquet.
  • No. 36, 40 - for removing paint and top layer on a flat floor. Sandpaper with such parameters is considered universal and is used more often than others.
  • No. 60 - universal paper for deep processing of clean parquet or varnished flooring.
  • No. 80, 100, 120 is used for finishing smoothing of already sanded floors.
Instead of ordinary sanding paper, you can use lindens - the same accessories, only with Velcro. They are easier to attach to the base of working devices.

Drum-type machines can be filled with special tapes with an arrow on them. You can only insert the skin in the specified direction.

Primary grinding does not apply to precise operations, but before grinding the parquet, it will not hurt to study the instructions for using special equipment and the coating processing technology.

Preliminary work before sanding parquet


Before sanding the parquet with your own hands, perform a series of operations to prepare the premises and equipment for repair:
  1. Move furniture and other objects out of the room that will interfere with your work. Cover the rest of the items with a protective plastic wrap.
  2. Eliminate squeaks and dips in the floorboards.
  3. Remove nails and screws, clean the floor from dirt. You can sink the fastener heads 2-3 mm into the wood.
  4. Remove the skirting boards.
  5. Check the unit's wattage and check if the room has an outlet that matches the product's specifications.
  6. The grinders are loud, so please stock up on ear muffs.
  7. Wear a respirator to prevent wood dust from entering the body.
  8. If you are planning a long procedure, wear tight gloves to avoid an allergic reaction.

Elimination of rough parquet defects


To eliminate gross defects, you can use a drum or belt sander. Attach the coarsest # 16, 24 or 40 grit paper to the moving part of the tool, depending on the type of old floor covering.

At this stage, you can use a working tool of maximum width. Typically, in coarse machines, a 20 cm wide belt is used. An abrasive with such characteristics will remove dirt, old varnish and the top weak layer of wood. It can quickly cut up to 5 mm of wood.

Lift the unit before turning it on so that it does not cut the floor. Press the "start" button, wait until the working body picks up the required speed. Start moving and at the same time lower the product. It is also necessary to turn off the device while moving in a raised position.

Monitor the operation of the electrical device:

  • Do not overload the device. Reducing the belt speed is not allowed.
  • Reduce the abrasive load on the floor when the mains voltage decreases.
  • During work, check the wear of the sanding cloth and replace it in time.
  • Watch out for the product's electrical cables that lie on the floor.
  • Control the filling of bags with waste. Large amounts of chips and dust slow down the process.

Parquet primary processing


Walk the machine diagonally across the room, at a 45-degree angle to the wall, then turn around and re-process the same strip. Make sure the machine moves along the grain of the tree. In places of rotation, movement across the dies is possible. On the artistic parquet, move the apparatus along the perimeter of the room in a spiral.

If the product peels off a small layer, and the revolutions are low, adjust the pressure of the tape on the floor with a special screw.

Move the device 10 cm to the side and repeat the operation, during which half of the belt will sand the already treated area. Walk over the entire floor area again, moving parallel to the walls. Hard-to-reach places are processed after leveling the main area.

Examine the floor after sanding the parquet with sandpaper. If there are serious defects such as cracks or dents, there is no point in continuing to work, the parquet should be replaced.

In awkward places, use angle grinders or boots. Make sure that there are no steps on the floor. If untreated areas remain in place of the skirting board, remove them by moving the machine from the edge of the treated floor towards the wall.

Remove areas in the middle of the room with a circular motion. The work continues until the entire floor is the same color. Place a long ruler on the base and check the surface quality. The gap between the ruler and the deck should not be more than 2 mm. Vacuum dust and debris from the surface.

Features of parquet scraping


If the area of \u200b\u200bdifficult areas is small, they can be processed in cycles without the use of electrical devices. Also, in a similar way, the parquet is manually sanded near the baseboards and corners. It's hard to move the tool, but there is practically no dust and there is no need to spend money on renting special equipment.

Run a damp cloth over the parquet floor, the planks will get wet and soften. Take the cycle with both hands, press it against the parquet and move it towards you, removing the shavings. If galling occurs, start sanding on the other side of the plate.

Walk over the treated surface in the opposite direction. The next strip should overlap the first. If fibers remain on the damp floor, wait for it to dry and re-cycle.

Finishing parquet


The next step is to remove deep scratches and scratches from the flooring that remained after large abrasive grains. We work like this:
  1. Use # 60 abrasive paper first and then # 80 abrasive paper. Move the sander along the grain of the dice. If the parquet is laid in a herringbone pattern, the appliance should be moved diagonally.
  2. For a smooth, high-quality surface, use a disc sander with # 80 and # 100 sandpaper. The procedure is carried out in the same way as for rough floor processing. Change discs as they wear out.
  3. Walk the floor 3-4 times, each time with a larger abrasive.
  4. Clean the surface thoroughly with a vacuum cleaner, even if the product has a built-in dust container.
  5. Fill large gaps and gaps with wood putty. You can add dust from a dust collector to the mixture, which will give the putty the color of the parquet.
  6. Putty over the entire floor with a rubber trowel. After the solution hardens a little, use an awl to simulate the joints of the dies.
  7. After the putty is completely dry, once again go over the floor along the fibers with abrasive # 100. The product must be set for minimum pressure. The process stops after achieving perfect smoothness. You can verify the good quality by running your hand over the flooring surface.
  8. Hard-to-reach areas are processed by angular devices and machines with a retractable disc part.
