How to cut a glass bottle with a regular thread? Easy and fast! How to cut a glass bottle with a thread How to cut a glass bottle at an angle.

There are several easy ways to cut the neck of a glass bottle. Why is this necessary, you ask? From a beautiful cropped bottle, you can make a cool glass, a flower vase or a stand for various little things. But, before you start cutting beautiful bottles, I still recommend practicing at ordinary beer houses, since this business requires experience and some skill: it doesn’t always work out exactly the first time.

So, I will tell you the simplest ways to cut off the neck of a glass bottle.

Method 1 - use a glass cutter

This will require a glass cutter. You can use the factory model or make your own. The design of a home-made device can be different: the main thing is that the bottle and the cutting element are securely fixed, but the bottle rotates freely.

Important! When cutting, you need to make one pass: this will provide the most even edge.
Next, you need to prepare hot (boiling water) and cold (possible with ice) water. First, pour hot water along the cut line so that the glass warms up well.

After that, immediately pour the bottle with cold water.

From the temperature contraction, the glass should break off along the line of the preliminary cut. If this does not happen, the procedure must be repeated (pouring first with hot and then cold water).

Method 2 - candle flame

This method will require a candle and a piece of ice (you can use a container of very cold water). To break off the neck, a straight line is drawn on the bottle with a marker, along which the glass warms up well over the candle.

Then the cut line is cooled with ice, after which the glass breaks with a light tap.

Method 3 - nargev from friction

Another way to break off a bottleneck is to use frictional heating of the glass. To do this, two plastic ties are put on the bottle, which serve as limiters. Three turns of twine are wound between them, after which the twine begins to move forward / backward by the free ends.

After 2–3 minutes, when the glass is sufficiently heated, the bottle is placed in cold water, and with light tapping, a break occurs along the heating line.

If you make a small incision with a glass cutter before rubbing the twine on the bottle, then you do not need to use cold water: the glass will crack when heated on its own.

Method 4 - filament installation

This method will require a transformer, for example, from a microwave oven with the secondary winding removed, instead of which three turns of a powerful power cable are installed.
The free ends of the wire are closed through a thick wire. The stand (base) must be heat-resistant and dielectric.

The next step is to connect the transformer to the electrical network. When the transformer is turned on, the thread will heat up: a bottle is applied to it and gradually rotates. When the glass is heated, the neck will detach along the heating line, so you need to ensure that the heating is uniform and along one line.

Method 5 - burning rope

This method will require natural twine and some refined gasoline for lighters. A piece of twine is cut off to the length necessary to wrap around the bottle at least 3 times. Then this piece of twine is soaked in gasoline so that it is completely soaked.

The twine soaked in gasoline is wound around the bottle in the place where it is necessary to chip and set on fire.

When the gasoline almost burns out, the bottle is lowered into cold water, where the glass bursts along the heating line due to the temperature difference.

Method 6 - use specialized equipment

This method is to use an electric tile cutting machine. The diamond blade cuts thick glass well and evenly. It is recommended to work with gloves, a protective mask and goggles, as glass dust is very dangerous. The advantage of using a cutter is the ability to cut the bottle into small washers, which is not available with other methods.

Everyone is well aware that when going on a hiking trip (hiking, water, equestrian) in sparsely populated places, we always forget to take some important trifle with us, but ... if you get lost in the forest, be sure to read. But it is also well known that for our tourist this is not a reason for discouragement. Because in such cases, he is almost always rescued -

Here, let's say you took with you a very sufficient supply of glass bottles with different contents, but forgot to grab mugs and glasses. They didn't even take a glass! A civilized western tourist would consider that the event is hopelessly spoiled and should be returned. But not you, because you are our tourist, and you have no doubt: something from the field of handicrafts will save you. Carefully examining the empty bottle, which you hold by the middle part, you notice that the bottom of the bottle is in the shape of a glass, and the top is the shape of an overturned glass. And that's it, problem solved! Further - a matter of technology: it remains only to cut off the bottle in the middle. It is clear that a glass cutter is not taken on a hike, but you remember the trick you once saw with cutting off a glass bottle with a thread. And the focus was as follows. The bottle was tied with a thread soaked in kerosene, the thread was set on fire, and when it burned out, the bottle was abruptly immersed in cold water. Here it cracked just along the line of burning of the thread, and it only remained to carefully separate the halves of the bottle.

And so, the disclosure of focus - bottle cutting(from the heading "handmade crafts")

Without delay, we get down to business. Starting with preparation necessary materials and tools. This:

- Glass bottle;

- a long strong thread;

- kerosene or lighter fluid (or other combustible liquid);

- a bowl of cold water (or a pond on the bank of which you made a halt);

- matches or a lighter;

- a tablespoon for tapping on the bottle;

- protective glasses;

- a brick or stone with a rough surface to remove sharp notches on the cut (it’s very good if a small file, a whetstone or sandpaper is accidentally lying around in the bushes - zero).

Then we go to main procedure .

1. Having cut the thread of the desired length (2-3 turns around the bottle plus tying a knot), soak it for a couple of minutes in a flammable liquid.

2. Very carefully, trying not to smear the flammable liquid on the glass outside the cut line, tightly tie the thread in 2-3 turns around the bottle along the intended cut line. At the same time, make sure that the strip of thread is of the minimum width, and that the knot is also of the minimum size. This will ensure a straight cut edge.

3. Put on safety glasses. Holding the bottle horizontally above the basin or above the surface of the reservoir at a safe distance from the face, set fire to the thread and slowly turn the bottle around its axis. This is so that the thread burns, if possible, simultaneously along the entire circumference. Let the thread burn out completely - until it burns out completely by itself.

4. Then immediately dip the whole bottle into cold water, holding it with your hands by the bottom and by the neck. As a result of a sharp change in temperature, the glass will crack exactly along the line of combustion of the thread (which is why the layer of thread on the bottle must be narrow).

5. If the glass does not break by itself, then you gently tap the working part of the spoon (which is on the side of the mouth) along the cracking line of the glass (the spoon should be at hand so as not to miss the moment). After that, the bottle is divided into a glass and a glass.

6. Smooth out any protrusions on the edges of the cut parts with a brick, file, etc. Of course, do this in the water so that small fragments of glass and brick do not scatter in the wind, aiming at the eyes. At least the glass should be sufficiently wet. Having finished grinding the edges, you get a wonderful glass and a pretty glass for use. Just do not forget to plug the bottom of the glass with a cork (that is, the neck of the former bottle).

7. Hand crafts using fire require compliance with fire safety requirements. Therefore, make sure before starting the entire procedure described that you have everything you need in case of a small fire. Water is at your fingertips, it remains to have some kind of dense cover just in case. And, more importantly, you start the operation only after you are completely sober, otherwise you can neglect fire safety and burn something you need.

When you learn how to cut a glass bottle well with a thread, you can use this skill to make other handmade crafts from bottles to decorate your home. It can be a flower vase, a table lamp, a champagne flute. At home, you will even have a diamond-coated file for grinding the cut line, not to mention fine sandpaper. You can cut the bottle not only parallel to the bottom, but also at any angle. The cut line can be pre-drawn using an elastic band for money and a felt-tip pen.

Useful articles

Today, “Hand Made” creativity is gaining momentum every day. Very often, needleworkers use glass bottles in their creations. They make vases, lamps, coasters, etc. out of them.
I will show you a very simple way to cut a bottle cleanly in almost a few seconds.

All we need is nichrome wire, a 12 V battery and cold water.

We cut the bottle

First you need to determine the location of the incision. To make it even, take a piece of paper and wrap the bottle around it. Align the edges of the sheet so that the line is even. Then take a felt-tip pen or marker and draw a border around the edge of the sheet. Now the leaf can be removed.

Next, you need to take a piece of nichrome wire with a diameter of 0.5 mm, attach one end to a stationary object. For these purposes, I use a black weight. We immediately attach one wire from the battery to it.

We make a coil around the bottle. And align to the trail of the marker.

In order not to get burned, take the wire with pliers. Pull just a little to straighten the wire.
Apply voltage to the other end of the wire.

It can be seen that the wire is hot. In places of contact with the bottle, the wire does not completely turn red, as the bottle takes away heat.

We wait without moving the wire and holding it in tension for about 30 seconds.
Then we quickly remove the wire and sprinkle the place of heating with water. You can also prepare a bucket of water and dip the bottle into it.

You will hear a peculiar click of glass, and the bottle will burst exactly along the line where the nichrome wire passed.

Everything is explained simply: during the heating of a certain place in the glass, internal stress arises. After a sharp cooling, the surface of the glass cools sharply, while its inner part remains heated. As a result of such a sharp change, microcracks appear, which instantly turn into a split.

Such a trick can be done not only with round bottles, but also with square, oval, etc. bottles.

In this publication, you will learn how to neatly and evenly or a jar using motor or vegetable oil.

We fill the dishes with cold water to the level where we want to make a cut. We place it in some container, which also needs to be filled with water to the level of water from the vessel. Now add oil to the bowl until a thin oil crust forms on the surface of the water, which will completely envelop the glass container.

The most important thing is that you should not pour oil straight from the bottle, because the film will turn out to be uneven and thus nothing will come of it.

Next, to carry out the procedure for cutting a bottle or jar, we will select a piece of metal. The thicker the glass we want to cut, the thicker the metal must be. The glass is quite thin, so the blade of a clerical knife fit perfectly. We heat it red-hot with a burner or gas stove.

Now we lower the hot blade into the bowl only to the oil level.

Remember to protect your skin and eyes from hot splashes!

Due to the rapidly incandescent film, the glass heats up, and due to the temperature difference it cracks. So we can carefully cut the glass bottle.

As you can see, the chip turned out perfectly even.
