How to feed Victoria in the spring before flowering. How is strawberry fed during flowering and fruiting? Spring strawberry dressing with mineral fertilizers

Many lovers of growing vegetables and fruits at home know that feeding strawberries during flowering and fruiting is a must. It is in this way that it is possible to increase the yield of the plant and make the fruits larger and juicier. For this reason, many gardeners are interested in the question of how to feed the plant while the strawberries bloom. In order to learn how to feed strawberries during flowering, it is recommended to consult a specialist in the field of agronomy or to get acquainted with the advice of professionals from the specialized literature.

It is known that the most difficult period of berry care is spring. It is spring care that affects the further harvest to a greater extent than all others. In addition, if you know how to feed strawberries during flowering, you can get an excellent harvest during fruiting, and in the summer there will be much less work.

What do you need to pay attention to?

The most basic task of feeding strawberries during flowering is the restoration of bushes after wintering. For feeding, various methods are used and the necessary substances are used. Used by:

  • method of feeding strawberries with yeast during flowering;
  • a technique for feeding strawberries during flowering with ash;
  • top dressing can be carried out with various mineral fertilizers.

The choice of method and type of fertilizing depends on what is better to feed strawberries during flowering, and on what soil composition is in the place where the berries are planted. Before top dressing, all already thawed bushes should be cleaned of dried leaves. It is also necessary to remove the top layer of the earth in advance, which mulched the berry in the fall. At this time, it is very important to organize good access of sunlight to the root system of plants.

We must not forget that during the fruiting period strawberries should be looked after in a special way. To do this, you should know in advance about all the rules and recommendations that experts give. If you stick to them, then the crop will be good and tasty.

  1. After the loosening of the earth is carried out, the plants need to be sprinkled with sawdust or with fine straw. You can also use peat crumbs or the most common humus. At the same time, the berry should be fertilized with special nitrogen fertilizers.
  2. After the first leaves begin to hatch, a special solution of mullein, in which ammonium sulfate is added, should be made under each plant.
  3. At the very beginning of May, the plant should be fed with mineral fertilizers.
  4. To avoid the appearance of various diseases, you should treat the plant with a solution of copper sulfate.

We must not forget that the plant must be irrigated with warm water at least once a week. Doing this is best in the morning. Until the berry blooms, rain watering is allowed; after flowering begins, it is better to water under the root.

How to care for strawberries in the spring?

In the spring, it is especially important to properly care for the plant. It is during this period that flowering occurs, which requires a more thorough approach to care, which consists in the following:

  • in regular weeding berries;
  • in watering once a week;
  • inspecting plants for pests and diseases;
  • in the addition of sawdust or straw after the fruit has ripened to prevent decay;
  • in regular feeding strawberries before flowering, during flowering and fruiting with a solution of nitrophosphate and potassium sulfate, yeast and ash.

After we have decided on what exactly you can feed the flowering strawberries in the spring, you should remember how to care for it in the rainy season. For example, if the rains are plentiful, then the plant needs to be covered with a film, this will help protect it from waterlogging. If this is not done, then the strawberries may begin to hurt or the fruits will be too watery.

All the features of autumn care

After the antennae are trimmed, you should treat the strawberries with a special drug. It will protect the plant from weeds and various diseases. Do not forget that in this period you will have to re-mulch the earth. This can be done using sawdust or peat, while the layer should be at least 5 cm.

The only thing worth remembering is that the backfill should be done very carefully, you should not completely cover the bushes. It must be remembered that in the spring this embankment will have to be removed so that the first rays of the sun can warm the root system of the plant.

As for the solutions used to feed the plant, it must be borne in mind that there is a certain proportion, which must be observed. You should also make sure that all ingredients are selected correctly. Feeding strawberries after flowering requires an even more thorough approach.

If we are talking about repair strawberries, then it needs to be fed at least 3 times a year. While the growth of leaves is not very stormy, the plant can be fed using specially prepared products.

Many gardeners are interested in whether it is possible to feed strawberries during fruiting. It should be noted that this is allowed to be done, only the proportions should be observed correctly.

How and with what to feed bushes?

During the period when the plant is just planted, it is watered with a mullein solution, which is bred in 5 liters of water. Approximately one 1 liter is used to prepare the solution. mullein. It should be borne in mind that no more than 1 liter can be poured under each bush. such a mixture.

But that is not all. You can fertilize the plant with nettles. This mixture is prepared quite simply, it requires one bucket of freshly picked plants, it is poured with warm water and insisted for about 3 days. By the way, such an infusion is allowed to water the plants even before the moment of its flowering.

There is another very effective tool that is used before the flowering of the plant is nitrophoska, potassium sulfate and water. The proportions are as follows:

  • 10 l water;
  • 2 tbsp nitrofosks;
  • 1 tsp potassium sulfate.

It is important to remember that it is best to top dress in the spring. Usually, this is done along with the removal of the old mustache.

What is allowed to do when the fruits are formed?

Topping strawberries during flowering should be done very carefully. But it should be borne in mind that the plant needs a large amount of potassium. It is because of this that chicken infusion is used, as well as ash and potassium nitrate.

Even in the process of flowering, and also after the first fruits begin to ripen, you can use a solution of zinc sulfate.

In general, care for strawberries during fruiting consists of several stages. Among them, not only watering and fertilizing with fertilizer, but also the correct cutting of antennae and dry leaves. It should also be remembered that repeated dressing of plants must be performed after the main harvest.

For feeding, you can use special mixtures designed specifically for fertilizing the soil under the strawberries.

Basic rules for plant care

As mentioned above, there are basic rules for caring for a plant. They include the following steps:

  • at least 3 times a year you need to feed the plant;
  • trim the antennae and dead leaves;
  • properly water the bushes;
  • periodically transplant bushes.

If we are talking about top dressing, then it should be understood that various mixtures and solutions can be used as fertilizers. For example, nitroammophosk divorced in a proportion of 1 tbsp. for 10 liters water. It is allowed to use organic fertilizers. It could be:

  • mullein;
  • chicken droppings;
  • ash;
  • humus.

You can’t use too much fertilizer. Moreover, this applies to both organic and artificial fertilizers. Typically, mullein is used at approximately 1:10, i.e., 1 liter. mixture of 10 liters. water. Many gardeners use ashes for feeding. How to feed strawberries with ash during flowering? You need to know the approximate composition of the ash and the composition of the soil at the place where strawberries grow. The most commonly used ratio is 1: 12, i.e. 1 liter. ash dissolved in 12 liters. water.

Based on this, it becomes clear what exactly can be fed strawberries during flowering and fruiting.

What is important to remember and what mistakes are made?

Each gardener should remember that when the first buds appear in the plant and the fruits begin to ripen, strawberries are re-fed during the flowering period, at which time the strawberry needs a lot of potassium. Gardeners use potassium nitrate and ash.

During flowering and fruiting, strawberries should be sprayed with special solutions, which further increase the yield of the berry itself.

The last top dressing is done after the entire crop is harvested. For these purposes, a complex of mineral and organic fertilizers is used.

Some gardeners after fertilizing do not water the plants, because of this, the root system of the bush is disturbed.

Watering should be regular and carried out throughout the period while the plant is flowering and bearing fruit.

Plant nutrition is required throughout the year.

If we are talking about watering, then this should be done in the morning. Watering is especially important when the berry blooms or bears fruit. It must be remembered that the water used for irrigation should not be cold.

In the process of growing strawberries, one should not forget about the recommendations regarding what is the best way to feed strawberries during the flowering period. By following all these rules you can achieve a good harvest.

The taste and size of Victoria strawberries depends on the care and nutrition. This is an undemanding and large berry.

It resists diseases well, but you need to choose the right place for planting. If necessary, correct the soil, because on heavy soils with clay impurities, the absorption of nutrients is impaired. Fertilizer for Victoria can be selected from the organic substances available on the farm or you can use purchased mixtures specially designed for strawberries.

Unless additional additives are used, not all characteristics of the variety will be manifested. The longer the plant is in the garden, the more it picks up nutrients and the worse it grows and bears fruit: sour small berries, small bushes.

You can start caring for strawberries in the fall. If seedlings have not yet been planted, you need to prepare the beds and apply a certain amount of fertilizer - better than organic, so that the young bushes immediately begin to grow.

Preparing the landing site

How to feed Victoria for the future harvest - can be found in the household:

  • compost;
  • chicken droppings;
  • manure;
  • green manure;
  • mineral mixtures.

But first you need to choose the right bed:

  • it should be on the sunny side;
  • to be protected from the winds - a good option - to put a fence on both sides of the beds so that the bushes are in shelter;
  • do not select areas where water stagnates;
  • not very good if the bed is near potatoes, tomatoes, pepper;
  • do not plant under the trees.

You can put Victoria in the holes and add fertilizer to each. If water stagnates in the soil, then it is better to plant on the "comb".

Feeding Victoria in the spring

Strawberries respond very well to organic fertilizers. For spring feeding Victoria can use the infusion of chicken manure. Use chicken fertilizer carefully, as it is the most concentrated of all fertilizers of animal origin.

To start one third of the bucket is filled with droppings and filled with water. Wait 4 to 5 days until excess ammonia erodes from the mixture. Next, each liter of infusion is diluted in 20 liters of water. Pour under the root into the hole so that the fertilizer does not spread.

The best option is compost based on manure or chicken droppings. But at home, it matures for a long time, and buying a little expensive.

The substance is prepared as follows - in a pile lay in layers:

  • priming;
  • manure;
  • plant residues;
  • kitchen waste.

For the first time, Victoria's nutrition is enough. After rooting, after about 2 to 3 weeks, foliar spraying of strawberries with a urea solution diluted in half can be carried out. This will stimulate the growth of greenery and shoots. During fruiting, strawberries should not be sprayed.

In mid-May, flowers appear.

It's time to think about how to feed Victoria to replenish potassium and phosphorus. It is not advisable to use nitrogen-containing fertilizers, since this causes increased growth of shoots, but does not affect the formation of fruits: you can get large beautiful strawberry bushes with one peduncle.

Ash solution is a unique folk remedy that has been used since time immemorial and always works well. To do this, burn the wood and save the ashes. Many in the country fry kebabs using firewood.

Hardwood is more suitable, especially oak. In oak ash, the potassium content of 20%, calcium - 75%. Young shoots contain more potassium, and it is also found in ash from weeds. Preparing an ash solution is simple:

  • take 300 g of ash;
  • pour a bucket of water;
  • wait 3 to 4 days.

You can water at the beginning of the fruiting period for better ripening of berries and their acquisition of a sweet taste.

Video: The first feeding of strawberries in the spring

It is important to do regular weeding from weeds and trim the mustache from strawberries, because for their growth the plant consumes additional nutrients that must go to the formation of the fruit. It is recommended to cut the first flowers so that the rest are larger.

In spring, the plant should be especially protected from fungal diseases that can damage the berries. Proper and regular feeding helps maintain plant immunity.

Summer feeding Victoria

Potassium and phosphorus are those substances that need to be fertilized in the summer of Victoria during the period of active fruiting. You can continue to use the ash solution. If the ash is over, then apply mineral fertilizers. It is advisable to use those mixtures that are specifically designed for berry crops.

Conventional fertilizers for flowers and vegetables are not suitable, as they have an incomplete composition of trace elements. Experienced gardeners are advised to apply potassium nitrate - 1 teaspoon of granules diluted in 10 liters of water. Watering boric acid helps to increase the number of inflorescences - 1 teaspoon stir in a bucket of water.

If rainy weather lasts for a long time and there is little sun, then we should expect the appearance of a fungus on a strawberry plantation. To avoid this, you need to mulch the soil in the aisles and under the bushes. The berries will be dry and less likely that the fungus from the soil will reach them.

Important! During the fruiting period, it is impossible to use chemistry against pests. Spray plants in advance for prevention

Watering is especially important in summer when strawberries gain weight. Nutrients must dissolve in water and so go to the berries. If there is not enough water, then the assimilation of fertilizing will be defective, and the berries will be tasteless, or rather, sour. In the absence of rain strawberries watering recommended 3-4 times a weekso that the soil is moistened in depth by 10 - 12 cm.

Autumn strawberry feeding Victoria

How to fertilize Victoria so that next year's harvest will please? Before embarking on autumn events, you need to think about how long strawberries grow in one place. If 3 years, then it needs to be transplanted, otherwise the berries will be smaller and yield reduced. And in the fall, phosphorus mixtures are usually added. Phosphorus binds to the soil and remains in it until spring.

Strawberries belong to one of the most common berry crops, and its cultivation has certain characteristics. Every horticulturist should know how and what to fertilize strawberries in spring with, because the crop yield will depend on this. Strawberry dressing is required not only in the spring, but also in the summer to increase productivity, as well as in the fall, so that the plants are properly prepared for wintering.

From this article you will learn how to fertilize strawberries in the spring, what mineral and organic fertilizers can be used, and how to properly apply them to the soil, depending on the season and growing season.

How to fertilize strawberries in spring

In order to enjoy sweet and fragrant strawberries in season, it is sometimes necessary to resort to top dressing. In this article we will tell you when and how to feed it for good growth and obtaining a high yield (Figure 1).

First of all, you should decide what to feed strawberries in the spring for a better harvest. Traditionally, both organic and mineral products are used for this, but they should be added in accordance with certain rules.

The first top dressing is carried out as soon as the snow has come and warm weather has settled. It is necessary to stimulate the growth of young shoots and leaves, therefore, substances containing nitrogen should be used.

Note: First of all, the soil needs to be loosened and cut dry leaves, then fed.

The bushes of the first year of life do not feed, since when planting under them fertilizers are applied. But biennial culture especially needs top dressing. The first begins when the first leaves appear around mid-April. During this procedure, a mullein is introduced to the plant or replaced with chicken droppings.

At the second top dressing, during flowering, bushes are fed with mineral preparations. The last recharge can be carried out with infusion of weeds. To do this, weeds are removed from the beds, chopped, poured with water and insisted in a warm place for a week.

Figure 1. Methods of feeding strawberries

Also in the spring you can carry out foliar top dressing. It is carried out by spraying plants with a solution of nitrogen or organics. Thus, all useful substances are absorbed immediately, positively affect the growth of the bush and the number of ovaries. Such a procedure is carried out on a dry, calm day and preferably in the evening.

Fertilize planting in the spring you need based on your location, the south of your region, the earlier we start the procedure. In an area with a warm climate and mild winters, this is done in mid-April. For northern areas - mid-May.

In order for the fertilizer to benefit the plants, it is important to know the flowering time of the varieties that grow on your site. This is necessary, because with early application, useful substances will go into the ground, and during flowering nothing valuable will get to the bushes. And vice versa, if top dressing is carried out later than necessary, we risk getting a meager harvest. It is also important not to overdo it with useful substances, as this can negatively affect plants.

It is better to use chicken droppings in the spring and only once a year. When watering plants, the liquid should not fall on the bush itself.

Useful tips for the first spring top dressing of strawberries can be found in the video.

Strawberry fertilizer table in spring

There is a special table, using which you can accurately determine how to fertilize strawberries in the spring for a better crop, and when to do it better (table 1). For example, after the first leaves appear, infusion of chicken droppings, mullein, yeast or nitroammophoska is introduced into the soil.

Table 1. Strawberry dressing for months

During flowering, plants are fed wood ash with potassium permanganate, iodine or boric acid. When the ovaries begin to form, nettle or mullein infusion is used as fertilizer.

How to fertilize strawberries in the spring for a better crop

Spring dressing is carried out early, until the leaves have blossomed. It is recommended to combine top dressing with pruning bushes.

Note: The first top dressing should “wake up” the plants after winter, and give growth to leaves and shoots, so nitrogen must be contained in it. To do this, you can mix water, mullein and ammonium sulfate or dilute nitroammophoska with water and make under each bush. You can also use organics: infusion of nettle, mullein or chicken droppings (Figure 2).

Yeast yeast is very popular among gardeners. It is introduced in early spring to form a good green mass and to increase yield.

Figure 2. The main types of fertilizers: yeast, wood ash and complex fertilizers

When the first peduncles appear, the plant needs potassium. It improves the taste of berries, increases their shelf life and improves the appearance of plants. During flowering, it is good to use such a fertilizer: wood ash is poured with boiling water, then potassium permanganate, boric acid and iodine are added. This mixture can be sprayed on leaves, flowers and fruits. Complex preparations containing a complex of beneficial substances are also known. Such fertilizers are used according to the instructions on the packaging: diammophos, nitrofoska, nitroammofoska, ammophos.

When preparing fertilizers, it is necessary to use rainwater or standing, but in no case chlorinated. Do not forget that they must be applied after rain or heavy watering.

How to fertilize strawberries in spring with yeast

Gardeners have begun to use yeast as a top dressing relatively recently. But the result was not long in coming. Yeast not only helps the plant grow green mass, but also helps to increase yield.

In addition, yeast is an affordable and inexpensive raw material, and you can prepare good fertilizer based on them yourself at home (Figure 3).

Features

Among gardeners, yeast is very popular. With a ready-made solution, you can feed strawberries, vegetables and home plants. This fertilizer contains proteins, minerals, amino acids and acidifies the soil well. After yeast feeding, nutrients linger in plants for up to two months. Roots are strengthened in plants and fruits grow large.

Figure 3. Strawberry nutrition with yeast

The first feeding is carried out in early spring, when the bushes begin to appear. To do this, you need to dig the earth, clean it of weeds and make yeast yeast. This will help the plant to quickly grow green mass and prepare for flowering.

The second top dressing occurs during the fruiting period, when green berries appear. From this, the fruits will become large and begin to ripen faster.

After harvesting, a third top dressing is carried out. Do not forget to loosen the earth and remove unnecessary sockets after each subcortex. The bed can be fed more often, but then the concentration of the solution should be reduced.

Ways

There are many ways to prepare yeast top dressing. All of them have been tested more than once and are simple to prepare.

To prepare the solution according to the classic recipe, take sugar, yeast and water. We dissolve yeast and sugar in a small amount of warm water. After a couple of hours, the fermented mixture is poured into a bucket of water and insisted for several days. Half a liter of sourdough is diluted with ten liters of water. Half a liter of working solution is added to one bush.

They use another way. A large pack of yeast is bred in five liters of warm water and left to ferment for several days. Half a liter of the mixture is diluted in a bucket of water. You can also make sourdough at home. Pieces of bread are placed in a container and filled with water. The container is placed in a warm, dark place for a week. So that the bread does not come up, the leaven is placed under oppression. At the end of the period, the solution is diluted with water and poured under the root. Moldy bread and chlorinated water should not be used.

Fertilizers for strawberries in the summer

Toward the end of July, a second top dressing is carried out. This is done so that the plants receive additional potassium and trace elements that they need to plant flower buds for the next year, as well as the formation of new roots (Figure 4).

In the summer, liquid manure is fed. For this, the fourth part of the bucket is filled with manure, water is added and insisted for three days. Ready slurry is diluted with water. Also, yeast dressing containing macro- and microelements, as well as complex fertilizers, is used.

Figure 4. Methods of fertilizing in the summer

As fertilizer, ash and nitroammophoska can be used and diluted with water. For laying the buds of the future crop, you can use urea. Sometimes ash can not be planted with water, but sprinkled around the bushes. After two weeks, the fertilizer procedure can be repeated.

After making nutrients on dry days, planting is plentifully watered for better laying flower buds.

If you notice that your plantings are poorly developed, then when loosening the soil, fertilizing with mineral preparations should be carried out simultaneously. To do this, you can use manure or compost, berry mixtures, potassium salt and superphosphate.

Bushes with lush foliage and a powerful mustache do not need to be fertilized. Such plants can only be fed with phosphorus-potassium fertilizer. Fattening strawberries do not need watering.

Do not forget to constantly remove weeds, inspect plants for diseases and pests, and also remove damaged parts of plants in time.

Strawberry fertilizer expert tips are in the video.

  Fertilizers for strawberries in the fall

Autumn dressing is carried out around September. This procedure helps the bushes to winter better, especially young plants.

As in the case of fertilizer in spring and summer, autumn top dressing has certain features, and for its implementation should take into account the basic rules and recommendations of experienced gardeners.

During the autumn feeding, gardeners are advised to use both organic and mineral fertilizers.

The main purpose of fertilizing in the fall is to maintain the good condition of the bushes and roots and provide them with nutrients before the onset of cold weather. Therefore, you should increase the amount of potassium and reduce the flow of nitrogen.

Note:  In September, it is better to carry out liquid top dressing, and in October to use solid additives. Mineral and organic substances must be mixed only before use. You can not insist them together.

By a thorough inspection of the bushes, you can determine which fertilizers need more and which need to be excluded. For example, small fruits, dried leaves stained - indicate a lack of nutrients. And sluggish leaves with white spots indicate an overdose.

Before feeding, you should determine the characteristics of the soil and the presence of humus for plants, as well as take into account the characteristics of a particular variety.

At the end of August, the first feeding of urea is carried out. Then, at the beginning of September, a fermented mullein is introduced into the aisles or under bushes. The second stage of feeding occurs at the end of the month, when the culture is fed with a solution that increases the laying and preservation of fruit buds.

After the second dressing, planting should be mulched. To do this, use straw, peat, hay, sawdust. Also at this stage, ash pollination is useful. Wood ash is sprayed on the leaves and the surface of the soil. It is important to shelter only after the first frost. This will give plants the opportunity to harden.

Spring strawberry dressing with mineral fertilizers

Mineral fertilizers are used to prevent the development of diseases, with the appearance of plaque on the leaves, a white edge or drying of young shoots. The use of such fertilizers improves the taste of berries and gives them additional volume (Figure 5).

   Figure 5. Types of mineral fertilizing

Today, in special garden stores, there are many mineral fertilizers for strawberries. Complex fertilizers containing potassium, nitrogen, phosphorus and magnesium are best suited. Such drugs act more on bushes than on soil. They help plants survive the winter and contribute to the laying of buds for the next year. They are used strictly according to the instructions written on the package. Mineral fertilizers should be applied to the aisles so as not to damage the bushes. Urea culture can not be fed, since urobacteria have not yet begun to function, so this fertilizer is not absorbed. Mineral top dressing must be accompanied by abundant watering.

  Organic strawberry dressing

Using organic fertilizers, you will get a wonderful harvest of berries without harm to the plant and soil, as they are natural and safe. It is also a cheap way to enrich the soil.

The main organic fertilizers that can be used to feed strawberries will be described below.

  How to fertilize strawberries in spring with chicken droppings

To get a good harvest, watering and pest control alone is not enough. An important element is nutrition. Chicken manure contains a large amount of nitrogen, so the mixture for feeding is diluted with water. The introduction of the finished solution is carried out three hours after watering the site, while you need to be very careful that the solution does not burn the leaves and roots of the plant. For this, the infusion is poured not under the bush, but between the rows (Figure 6).

You need to start such dressing at the beginning of the development of the plant, otherwise you risk getting a lot of leaves and mustaches, and oversaturated berries with nitrates. From this fertilizer, plants will receive the nutrition necessary for the growth and formation of large fruits.

   Figure 6. Chicken droppings as a fertilizer for culture

How to prepare a solution? The main thing is to observe the proportion of water and litter: 20 parts of water per one part of dry litter. When using fresh litter in 20 liters of water, a liter of fresh litter is bred and insisted for ten days, the container is not covered. Fresh litter can not be used. However, it should be borne in mind that such dressing should not be used during flowering and fruiting.

  Wood ash as a fertilizer for strawberries

The composition of the ash includes potassium, calcium, phosphorus and magnesium. Wood ash can be used both in pure form or in the form of a ready-made solution. For strawberries, wood ash is considered the best fertilizer (Figure 7).

   Figure 7. Features of feeding strawberries with wood ash

Ash can be brought in a handful twice a season - in the spring and after fruiting. In dry form, the ash is applied before watering or rain. Some gardeners prefer to work with a solution. To do this, pour a glass of ash with a liter of hot water and insist a day. Then they dilute in another nine liters of water and mix well. The prepared solution should be constantly stirred during watering so that the ash does not settle to the bottom. Urea, nitrate or manure should not be added to the finished solution.

  Ashes as a fertilizer for strawberries

Ash is a substance of natural origin. The elements contained in it are easily absorbed by plants. Ashes contain phosphorus, potassium, magnesium, boron, manganese, molybdenum, etc. Timely application of such fertilizer increases planting resistance to diseases and pests, improves the taste of berries and changes the composition of the soil.

Twice a year, root dressing is carried out: before flowering and after fruiting. At the stage of fruit setting, foliar top dressing is performed. For this purpose, boric acid, iodine, potassium permanganate and sifted ash are dissolved in ten liters of hot water. All components must dissolve. Spraying is carried out in the evening or in the early morning, until the dew has slept.

In no case should ash be used as fertilizer after burning household waste, synthetic materials, colored paper and bright magazines, rubber.

In summer during flowering and fruiting strawberries  needs proper care, and the final harvest of sweet berries depends on it.

Consider in detail:  how to care for strawberries during flowering, when to water, what fertilizers to apply, how to prolong the fruiting of strawberries.

Mustache Removal

One of the most important activities for the care of strawberries during flowering and fruiting is mustache removal. The bush should spend food only on berries.

Mustache can be removed with scissors, pruners or hands. In order not to damage the root system, do not pull out and do not pull the mustache, but simply, holding the mustache between your fingers to break it.

Strawberry bushes  conditionally divided into male and female, visually they look the same - they have sockets and a mustache.

Male bushes are more powerful and give more mustaches rather than berries. The female bush is strewn with fruits and it does not have a large number of mustaches.

therefore during flowering and fruiting of strawberries  select the most productive bushes where large berries are formed - these will be uterine bushes. Such bushes must be marked, and already in the fall take a few mustaches for reproduction.

For the entire season, strawberries need to be fed 3 times - at the beginning of the growing season, during flowering and at the end of fruiting. In early summer, strawberries form fruits and are suitable as top dressing liquid organic fertilizers  (it can be chicken droppings, yeast solution or herbal tincture).

The most necessary substance at this stage, when the berries are formed - potassium. He is responsible for the development of the fruits, their beautiful appearance and taste.

Therefore, top dressing must necessarily contain it - you can fertilize plants with wood ash  scattering one handful under the bush.

Or you can do ash infusion  - To do this, dilute a glass of ash in 10 liters of water, insist for 24 hours. Then water the plants under the root making about 1 liter of infusion under the bush.

Attention:  In summer, any liquid top dressing should be applied either after rain, or after watering, in no case on dry ground.

Also during flowering, you can make foliar top dressing with boric acid, such microfertilizer increases the yield, flowering intensity, improves the nutrition of the ovaries and enhances the flow of sugar to the fruits. To do this, dilute 10 g of boric acid in 10 liters of water.

I first pour the powder into a liter jar and pour hot water into it, continuously stirring until it is completely dissolved. Then I bring the solution to the desired volume - 10 liters.

It is necessary to spray with a freshly prepared solution in the morning or in the evening, it is also possible in cloudy, not rainy weather. The flow rate of the working solution is 1 liter per 10 m 2.

Watering strawberries during flowering and fruiting

During the flowering and fruiting of strawberries water regularly, in no case do not allow the soil to dry out. Without watering, the berries will be small, unsweetened, with hard seeds.

But you don’t need to fill the plants either - this will reduce the winter hardiness of the bushes and the resistance to diseases. For strawberries, both drying out and waterlogging are dangerous.

After the first fruits appear, water the bushes only under the root. Before flowering, watering could be done through a watering can sprinkler. At the time of fruit ripening, excessive wetting of the ground can provoke the appearance of gray rot.

It will be right if you collect already ripe berries before watering.
