Acrylic practically does not smell and dries very quickly, therefore it is recommended to use it, and as an additional element to take not cement, but gypsum or grout for tiles based on it.

Almost any material is suitable for making a board: thick cardboard, plywood, boards, even laminate or some types of plastic. When choosing a material, it should be remembered that paint adheres very poorly to surfaces such as plastic, metal or plexiglass. If possible, you should choose a different material, and if it is nevertheless decided to use plexiglass, metal or plastic, the surface is sanded and coated with a primer, only after that you can apply the composition for making a chalk board.

When working, you should take care of safety precautions, namely, work only in a well-ventilated area. When acrylic is combined with grout, an unpleasant odor often appears. The mixture dries very quickly, therefore, before starting painting, you need to protect all surfaces that the paint can get on, and use the whole diluted mixture at once. The grout should be at least 1/5 of the amount of paint; it is better to pick it up in color as close as possible to the planned shade of the chalk board. If you take white gypsum, the color will end up not so saturated, instead of black it may turn out to be gray. Stir the mixture quickly and thoroughly to form as few lumps as possible.

When painting, most often one layer is not enough, it is better to paint in 2-3 layers so that the surface does not shine through the paint. The grains of the mixture are removed before the board is dry. To ensure even coverage, alternate layers with vertical and horizontal strokes, letting the previous layer dry before applying the next. When the last layer is completed and dry, the board is carefully rubbed with chalk and wiped with a hard dry cloth, sanding. Whenever possible, use soft chalk for drawing so as not to scratch the surface. The chalk can be washed with a dry cloth or sponge, and occasionally a damp cloth can be used to clean the field.

The better you shake the paint, the better the result will be. The can says that it is recommended to start painting 24 hours after application, but in fact it is possible even earlier. We were waiting three hours painting over 3 layers... Better not to be stingy, put 2-3 layers.

CHOOSE CHALK

Many people remember the 1990s, when instead of normal chalk, pressed plaster appeared in schools - it sometimes creaked disgustingly on the blackboard, so some teachers bought and carried normal soft crayons with them.

Yes, there can be real chalk (10,000 rubles per pack), and sometimes pressed plaster - it is cheaper and harder (up to 5,000 rubles per pack). BASIC METHODS IN LETTERING

Step 1.

Preparing the surface. If you are using a new cutting board, wipe it down with a damp sponge. And if it is used, then it must be thoroughly sanded with sandpaper, otherwise the paint may be poorly applied and adhere to.

Step 2.

Preparing the coating for the chalk board. Of course, there are factory coatings for chalkboard, but you can make a coating with a similar properties yourself. Just mix the paint with the joint and mix thoroughly. It is important that not a single lump remains!

Step 3.

Covering the board When you have defeated all the lumps, take the brush in your hands and feel free to paint the board. Try to apply a thin and as even layer as possible. Let the coating dry and repeat these steps 2-3 more times.

Step 4.

The final touch. To make the board really look like a real chalk board, apply chalk all over its surface and wipe it down with a dry rag. By the way, if you sharpen the crayon (photo) in a regular pencil sharpener, then writing will be much more pleasant!

Lesson 2. Chalk board from a metal tray

You have an old metal tray lying around that you have not used for a long time, but is it a pity to throw it away? Perfectly! You can make an unusual chalk board out of it. So, get out your tray, prepare the same materials as in the first lesson, 4 magnets and a strong glue for metal surfaces.

Step 1.

Preparation of the base. Sand the edges of the tray to a shine if you want your chalkboard frame to sparkle. Then use sandpaper to scrape the inside surface to help the paint hold on.

Step 2.

Coating. Prepare the coloring compound (see lesson 1) and apply at least three coats to the inside of the tray. Let the paint dry and your chalkboard is ready!

Step 3.

Hang the board over the refrigerator. If you want to hang the board on the refrigerator door, you can glue 4 strong magnets to the back of the tray.
