DIY workshop for making a lampshade for a lamp

A popular material from which a lampshade is made with your own hands is fabric. Linen, silk, jeans, organza - any option.

A whole piece or strips of matter will do. You can simply fit the frame with printed fabric, make it plain with embossed flowers from the same fabric.

It is important to understand in advance exactly where your lampshade will “live”. Romantic surroundings require an appropriate “companion”, strict minimalism - another.

Expert advice: As a basis for the lamp, you can take the frame from the old lamp. Making it out of hard wire yourself is also a snap. A lamp should choose an energy-saving type - so that the fabric does not catch fire.

How to make a beautiful lampshade with your own hands?

 • We take the finished frame, for example, with a ring diameter of 20 centimeters on top, thirty-six centimeters below, and twenty-eight centimeters high;
 • we select the fabric and cut it into strips, the width of each is four to five centimeters; only about twenty-five lanes;
 • the edges of the tapes should be flat;
 • iron them well with an iron;
 • wrap the upper ring with one edge of the tape and sew it by hand;
 • now we bring it down and wrap the lower ring, and again the upper one;
 • when the strip ends, we fix its edge by sewing it to the fabric;
 • take a new tape and continue;
 • when the whole frame is wrapped, we sew "edges" for the edges;
 • for this we take two strips of matter of a different shade and cut out two strips from it, the length of each is thirteen centimeters, the width is ten;
 • iron the tape by folding the longitudinal edges 2.5 centimeters to the wrong side;
 • then bend the strip in half;
 • paste double-sided tape on the hoops of the frame;
 • glue a strip of fabric on it, along the way slightly cutting its edge, so that the material lies as evenly as possible;
 • we bend the second edge of the tape onto the inner surface of the body and also glue it with tape;
 • we decorate in this way with “belts” the top and bottom of the frame.

You can make edging from crocheted tape or from ruffle.

- bend the free edge into the body and glue it;

- fold a strip of fabric of a different color to the length of the lampshade and a width of five centimeters, fold in half, bend the edges inward, iron;

- apply glue to the inner surface of the tape and glue it;

Unconditional harmony should reign in the interior of the room, therefore, when designing it, it is necessary to take into account every detail, even at first seeming a trifle. An important role in design is always played by lighting devices, which often can even become a central element of the overall design. However, the opportunity to purchase the right option is not always provided - for the banal reason of the lack of the necessary design solutions in the proposed range.

In such cases, some homeowners have a desire to make their own efforts in interior design. And especially a similar solution is suggested in those situations when beautiful grounds remained from old chandeliers, floor lamps or table lamps. Therefore, this publication will consider the question of how to make a lampshade with your own hands for different types of lighting devices. Perhaps one of the proposed solutions will save some money from the family budget and at the same time find an exclusive item of the overall decoration of the room, which will certainly become a reason for the personal pride of the master.

There are a number of advantages of hand-made lampshade for any type of fixtures. And these circumstances should be taken into account when the question arises as to whether to buy this element of interior decor, or to make it yourself.

 • It becomes possible to get an exclusive model of the lighting device as a result.
 • The master has a much wider choice of decorative design of the lighting device, corresponding to the general design direction of the interior.
 • Very significant cash savings are achieved.
 • For work, it is quite possible to use things that have accumulated in home pantries, which take up quite a lot of space, but throwing them away for one reason or another is a pity. So, in many houses there are quite functional and interesting in their forms lamps, but long out of fashion. To create a new product, any of them will do.
 • You should never discount the “psychological component” - the opportunity to clearly demonstrate to everyone their own creative ambitions, and then - deservedly be proud of the manufactured product.
 • You can and even need to attract a child to the joint manufacture of a lampshade - this is a great opportunity to instill in him a desire to create useful things with his own hands. In addition, time spent together and creative communication “on an equal footing” will certainly benefit both parents and children.

We hope the arguments are quite convincing. Therefore, we can move closer to the practical part.

Safety of selected materials

Here the principle is simple - a home-made lampshade should not be a danger. This, of course, is primarily about fire safety, since any lighting device during operation emits a certain amount of heat.

In the production of lighting fixtures on an industrial scale, technologists of responsible companies calculate the safe distance from the lamp to the lampshade material. This distance is determined depending on the power of the lamps, which are recommended for installation in a particular lamp, and on the degree of heat resistance of the material used to create the lampshade.

 • In homemade lamps, only certain types of lamps are used that do not heat up to high temperatures. So, it is necessary to completely exclude incandescent lamps, in which the lion's share of the consumed electricity is converted into a banal heating, and often to very high temperatures. The fact that such an expenditure of energy is extremely uneconomical is not so bad. But the “neighborhood” of the lampshade material with a source of strong heating is extremely unsafe!

Today in the assortment of stores there is no shortage of other light sources - these are LED or compact fluorescent energy-saving models. Moreover, all of them must have reliable socles made of ceramic or metal. The cost of such lamps is certainly much higher than that of incandescent lamps, but heating here does not reach critically high temperatures. Plus, add a long service life and a calm, even, but quite powerful light output

 • Highly flammable materials - synthetic or cotton fabric, plastic threads, wooden parts, as well as paper or cardboard from which the lampshade can be made, must be at a distance of at least 50 ÷ 70 mm from the lamp.
 • Having made a lampshade and installing it on a lamp, it is recommended to observe the intensity of heating of its walls. If there is a heating of the material, which can be characterized more than warm, then you should change the bulb to a less powerful one (this means the power consumption, and not the conditional criterion for assessing the brightness of the glow).

What is very important to know about the characteristics of lamps and lighting fixtures?

Before choosing, manufacturing, installing lighting fixtures, it is strongly recommended to get some theoretical knowledge in this matter. Very detailed about the different, about the methodology for calculating the illumination of the room is described in a special publication of our portal.

Varieties of lampshades according to the principle of design and material of manufacture

A few words must be said about the types of lampshades, those that can be made at home. They can be divided according to the principle of design and material of manufacture.

Frame and frameless constructions

By design, such products can be divided into frame and frameless.

 • Frame lampshades have a rigid base on which one of the selected materials is fixed. Frames can have a different shape - its choice depends on the preference and imagination of the master, as well as on the availability of material necessary for the manufacture. The advantage of this type of lampshade is that the frame immediately determines the distance between the exterior decoration material and the lamp, and then retains it throughout the life of the lamp. In addition, the product acquires rigidity, due to which its shape, originally set, is maintained.

 • Frameless lampshade. In this embodiment, the role of the frame is played by the material itself from which the product is made. In order for the lampshade to acquire the desired shape, a template is made as a temporary basis on which the selected material is fixed with glue. The base is removed after the glue has completely dried.

Choosing this method, you must immediately calculate at what level the lamp will be located inside the lampshade, given that a certain distance must be maintained between it and the lampshade.

The advantage of such a product is its low weight. The disadvantage is the fact that in case of accidental deformation of the shape of the lampshade, its walls can dangerously approach the lamp, which will lead to overheating of the material, which is fraught with fusion and fire. This is especially true for lampshades manufactured for table lamps and floor lamps, the shape of which can be damaged by accidental mechanical stress.

What materials are used for the exterior decoration of the lampshade

A very wide variety of materials has been successfully used to make home-made lampshades. Some of them do not even have to be purchased - they can be found in the household, and sometimes they are completely underfoot, and, almost in the literal sense of the word.

IllustrationDescription of the material, its advantages and disadvantages
The cloth. Sheathed only frame variants of lampshades.
 It is not recommended to use synthetic materials, as they do not withstand heat, can shrink, melt and fade.
 Cotton or linen is perfect for lining. It will be better if the fabric is treated with a special water-repellent impregnation, due to which the lampshade will also attract less dust.
Thread or yarn. This version of the material is most often used to create a frameless lampshade, but sometimes it is also used to tighten the frame.
 For the formation of a ceiling from threads, different options are used with a thickness of 1 to 5 mm.
Rope. It is used for manufacturing and rope of different thicknesses. She is wrapped in a finished frame in different variations, as well as frameless models of lampshades are assembled.
 It is best to use twine made from natural materials - they are especially well suited for lamps made in eco-style.
Ribbons different widths are suitable both for the formation of weaving along the frame, and for frameless options for decorative shades.
Hand-woven lace made of cotton threads is used for fixing on the frame and forming a frameless lampshade.
 Instead of lace, you can use fragments cut from tulle, having a suitable pattern.
Hand Knitted Fabrics having different patterns can also be an excellent decoration for the lampshade frame.
 They can be knitted specifically for a particular product, or you can use ready-made garments for this purpose that have finally gone out of fashion or just like.
Wood details - branches, planks, slats, etc. also often serve for the manufacture of lampshades.
Thin, peeled and specially processed branches are used to weave lampshades, thicker ones are set with a picket fence or cut into small pieces and randomly assembled into the selected shape. Thin planks themselves can form a frame, while also performing a decorative function.
 Some craftsmen prepare plywood parts with a through thread, which, when the lamp is turned on, gives a beautiful shadow on the walls.
Plastic hardware parts , which are sold in sewing stores and used to decorate clothes, are also used to create plafonds or lampshades.
 Beads or buttons of various sizes and shapes can be added to this category of materials.
Origami - This is a technique for working with paper and cardboard, from which various decorative details are made, including lampshades for lighting devices.
 The advantage of such decorative products can be called the speed of manufacture (if there is a certain experience, of course) and the ability to change them depending on the mood or the need to decorate the room for a particular holiday.
 The disadvantage is the fragility of lampshades made of paper and cardboard.

In addition to the materials listed above, the most unexpected creative elements can be used to create homemade masterpieces - these are rings from metal cans, vases, ordinary kitchen graters, gears from watches and much more. One has only to turn on the fantasy ...

Making a lampshade

How and from what can a frame be made?

If a frame version of a lampshade is chosen for manufacturing, then a logical question immediately arises - where to get it or from what and how to make a frame yourself. This stage of work can be called the first when creating the product.

If you plan to update the lampshade on an old floor lamp, a chandelier or a table lamp, in which the frame has remained in its entirety, then it can be completely used, decorated with new material. The old skin is removed from the base. Then the frame is carefully inspected, if necessary, cleaned of rust, and then painted.

If the lighting fixture is recreated, or in the case when the frame is missing or has become unusable, you can buy an old lampshade, for example, on a “flea” market, and do the above-described manipulations.

Well, if this option does not triple or is impossible - you have to do it yourself.

Office waste bin frame

One of those options that do not force much effort to create a frame is to buy a metal basket for office waste.

You can find metal and plastic baskets on sale, but for the lampshade it is recommended to choose the first option. If the size and shape of the product is suitable, then the problem with the frame will be solved. A neat hole is cut out in the bottom of the basket for installing a cartridge under the lamp, which should be firmly fixed to the mesh surface. By the way, the bottom of many baskets is a solid metal plate, that is, it is even easier to fix a cartridge.

Sometimes it’s enough for a lampshade to be carefully painted on the mesh surface in the desired color and decorate the upper or lower line with a cloth, braid, etc. You can veneer the frame completely with one of the above materials. Design options are unlimited.

Wire frame

The most common material for the manufacture of the frame is a thick wire. If steel wire is taken, then the joints during the assembly of the frame can be made using spot welding. However, such technology is not available to a few, and, as a rule, most home craftsmen fasten individual parts by twisting.

Steel wire has considerable rigidity and elasticity, and it is rather difficult to twist together parts with a thickness of, say, even 3 mm. Therefore, some nodes are made using a thinner wire, which fixes the connections of the main elements of the frame.

If the twist method is chosen for the connection, then aluminum wire is often used. It is not difficult to work with it, but it is too flexible and easily deformed. When the frame is trimmed with decorative cladding, it, of course, will acquire greater rigidity. But in its manufacture, it is necessary to take into account the properties of the wire and act very carefully.

The advantages of aluminum wire include the same ductility, since when creating a frame, you can easily make adjustments to it.

For work, you will need some tools that are likely to be found in any home workshop:

- pliers for bending and straightening the wire;

- round-nose pliers will help to bend the ends of the wire for further twisting;

- wire cutters;

- the hammer will also help straighten individual sections;

- sandpaper to clean the surface of the steel wire before painting;

- thin copper wire for winding the connecting nodes of parts;

- soldering iron for connecting copper wire;

- enamel paint and a thin brush;

- an insulating tape for additional fixing of details among themselves;

- a wide wooden block, on which it will be convenient to straighten the wire and perform soldering.

Frameworks are performed in the following order:

 • The shape of the future lampshade is selected and a product drawing is made taking into account its dimensions.
 • Further, if necessary, the prepared wire is straightened.
 • Then, according to the dimensions indicated in the drawing, pieces of wire are cut. Here it is necessary to take into account the overlapping of the ends of the wire on each other when forming the upper and lower circles, at least 150 ÷ 200 mm. For height-determining vertical elements, the segments should have a greater length than that laid down in the drawing by about 40 mm. This is necessary for their fastening on the circumference of the frame.

The frame traditional for the lampshade consists of two large circles - the upper and lower, a small ring for holding the cartridge, 4 ÷ 6 vertical holders and 3 ÷ 4 horizontal jumpers that will hold the ring under the cartridge inside the structure.

Naturally, there are much more complex forms of lampshades. In any case, each of the options is made according to the drawing. However, choosing an overly intricate design, do not forget that carving and stitching a cover for it will also be difficult.

 • Cut steel wire segments, if necessary, are cleaned from rust with sandpaper.

 • Further, circles of the required diameter are made. The ends of the wire must be wrapped with copper wire, and it is better to solder this resulting clamp immediately. Another fixation option is insulation tape.
 • Then, frame racks are made that connect the upper and lower circles and thereby define the structure of the outline of the truncated cone. At their ends, with the help of round-nose pliers, peculiar loops are bent. With their help, these racks are worn first on the upper, and then on the lower ring of the frame. Parts must be distributed around the circles so that there is the same distance between them.
 • After this, the rings on the ends of the racks are clamped with pliers. You can finally fix the connection of parts with copper wire and its subsequent soldering, or you can do it easier - wrap with insulating tape.

 • If an electrical tape is selected for fixation, then the parts are painted before they are assembled into a single structure. It must be rightly noted that the appearance of the frame fastened in a similar way does not differ in high aesthetics. Therefore, this option should be used only for lampshades, in which a dense opaque material acts as decorative lining.

 • These manufacturing methods are not at all the only ones possible. For example, in combination with a wire, a metal strip 10–12 mm wide can be used. It is convenient in that you can drill holes in it, through which then fasten the parts together using screws and nuts, and also attach the cartridge to the threaded sleeve.

By the way, the connecting nodes, if the frame is made of thick copper wire or even a tube, can be done simply by soldering - you just need a fairly powerful soldering iron. Yes, and aluminum can be brazed - however, this requires some kind of experience and a certain set of chemicals.

Other options for materials for the frame

Perhaps for someone other recommendations on the material for manufacturing the frame for the lampshade will be useful. Moreover, all the examples of “raw materials” listed below can be found in almost every house or purchased “for a penny”.

IllustrationA brief description of the use of materials for creating a frame for a lampshade
If there is no steel or aluminum wire, then to create the base, you can use wire hanger for clothes.
 The shoulders must be untwisted into even segments that are straightened with pliers. Then, frame parts are formed from them.
 Their connection with each other is carried out according to the principle described above, and fixing - for example, using electrical tape.
 To make a frame from such a wire requires less effort, but the basis of them is less rigid and durable.
In construction stores you can find metal mesh designed for reinforcing surfaces for plaster. They can have different cell sizes. For the lampshade, a variant with cells of 15 × 15 or 20 × 20 mm is suitable.
 A frame is formed from the cut out fragment of the mesh, and to connect the edges, they overlap one or two cells and are connected together by wire twisting.
 However, from this material it is possible to make the frame only in the form of a cylinder or a truncated cone. If this form does not contradict the general design decision of the room and suits the master, then this option to create a frame can be called the optimal solution.
It is possible to use a grill from an old fan for manufacturing a lampshade, especially since a certain shape of a peculiar spherical segment has already been given to it.
 If necessary, the frame can be made deeper by attaching an additional tier of wire of the same thickness on the lower part of the grating, or by extending the edges of the lamp shade with facing material.
Another version of the material for the frame offered by some masters is five-liter plastic bottles.
 You can use them in their entirety by removing the bottom or cut the walls of the tank into strips of the same width. Then, the desired shape of the ceiling is created from the strips, and its lower side is fixed to the wire circle, which will give the structure rigidity.
 A clear drawback of this material is its deformation during overheating, as well as the fact that only a small lampshade can be made from a bottle.
The frame can also be made of embroidery hoops, and of different shapes and sizes.
 It can be a lampshade of a traditional configuration, round or semicircular. It is easy to work with this material, from it the easy and reliable design turns out.
 In the manufacture of a classic lampshade, hoops of different diameters are selected, the upper and lower circles are fastened together by wooden slats. To form the inner part of the structure, designed to install the cartridge, you can use aluminum wire.

Several options for decorating the lampshade

So, as mentioned above, different materials can be used for facing the frame. The most popular of the options will be presented in this section.

Covering the frame with fabric

In order to sew a traditional fabric lampshade, having the shape of a truncated cone or cylinder, you need a prepared frame, decorative fabric, white cotton or PVC film, threads, glue, scissors, an iron, a gun for silicone hot-melt adhesive, clothespins, and also a pattern. The amount of decorative fabric will depend on how it is planned to sheathe the frame, whether it will be stretched evenly or wrinkles will form on it.

The work of decorating the frame is as follows:

 • Making patterns. In order not to spoil the prepared fabric, it is recommended that the first step is to make a paper pattern. It is not difficult to make it. If the frame has a cylindrical shape, then its diameter and the height of the lampshade are measured. Everything is clear with height, and the length is calculated by the formula for the circumference:

L =π× D

L - circumference of the frame;

π - a constant that can be taken to be rounded to 3.14;

D - cylinder diameter.

As a result, the pattern will be an even strip of fabric. To its calculated length is added 20 mm per seam, and to the measured width - 40 mm per bend on one side and the other.

If the frame has the shape of a truncated cone, then either the scan parameters are calculated, or its graphical construction is performed according to a special algorithm. But often they do much easier. To do this, paint the outside of the upper and lower circles of the frame with a black marker and roll it over a sheet of paper.

On the traces left on it, a pattern is drawn, to which extra millimeters are also added to the bend and seam. The pattern is cut out and applied to the frame, adjusted if necessary, that is, an additional segment is added to it or the excess length is removed.

After the pattern is ready, it is transferred to the fabric, as well as a PVC film or lining fabric. Further marked parts must be cut with scissors.

The rolling method is not always suitable. Sometimes you have to draw a scan of a truncated cone yourself. If this is necessary - you can go to the appendix to this article. There are detailed mathematical and graphical methods, calculators for the necessary calculations are placed.

 • PVC film and fabric are combined with each other, cleaved with pins and stitched. Another option for bonding materials is bonding with a highly heated iron. Ironing is carried out on the fabric side, the film melts and adheres to the decorative layer when heated.

 • In the next step, the fabric is fixed first to the upper and then to the lower circumference of the frame using clothespins or stationery clips. When fixing, it is important to ensure that the bend of the fabric is uniform. The fabric should be well tensioned on the frame.
 • When the fabric is fitted, marks are made on it along the line of the vertical seam and along the upper and lower bends. Next, having removed the fabric from the frame, sew a vertical seam on a sewing machine.
 • Then the stitched cover is put on the frame and is aligned with the upper and lower marks.

 • The fabric is bent through the wire of the upper circle, melted silicone or superglue is applied to the bend with a gun, after which it is temporarily fixed with clothespins or clips. Then, the same process is performed along the line of the lower circle. The adhered fabric is left to dry completely.

 • The final stage of work may be gluing on the upper and lower edges of the lampshade of a satin ribbon in the color of the fabric, or the same material - to complement the unfinished pattern.

The glued strip must be fixed immediately with clips or clothespins. After a guaranteed hardening of the glue, the temporary fixation is removed.

 • The finished lampshade is worn on a table lamp or other lighting fixture.

The method of mounting the lampshade depends on the characteristics of the lighting device. These can be special clamping flanges on the outside of the lamp holders, threaded sleeve, and more. Any home master will easily deal with this issue.

Covering the frame with tape

This option is available for any, even a novice master, since it is very simple to make the process of decorating with ribbon.

To finish the created frame in this case, the following materials will be required:

 • Tape of the required color with a width of 15 ÷ 20 mm. Its quantity will depend on the dimensions of the frame and the intended density of its braid.
 • To add decorativeness to the product, a border can be used that is well suited in design and color to the main cladding material.
 • Superglue or silicone hot melt adhesive (gun).
 • Clothespins or stationery clips for temporary fixing of a tape for the period of drying of glue.

Decoration works are carried out in the following order:

 • On the upper circumference of the frame with the help of glue, the edge of the tape is fixed and is additionally fixed with a clothespin.
 • When the glue dries, the tape gently begins to wrap the walls of the frame, winding it through the upper and lower wire circles. By performing this process, the circumference of the frame is pre-lubricated with a small amount of glue (usually in a small area, for several turns) and the tape is fixed with clamps. It is also necessary to take into account the fact that the tape is wound on the walls so that in the upper part it is more on the previously laid one, and its strips diverged somewhat downward, but no gaps would be created between them.
 • When winding the last turn, the edge of the tape is smeared with glue and hides behind the previous strip.
 • After the glue dries, the border is glued along the lower edge, and if desired - on the upper edge. Its ends are fixed with an overlap, which is additionally smeared with glue.

Rope frame decoration

Another interesting option for decorating a metal frame is braiding it with thin twine and a coarse rope. There are a lot of ways to decorate the lampshade with this material, and in the example below, only one of them will be presented.

To create this lampshade model you will need:

 • Frame with frequently located side guides.
 • Thin twine.
 • Twisted rope.
 • Scissors.
 • A gun for silicone hot glue and several sticks of such glue.

The manufacture of this lampshade is performed in the following sequence:

 • In the first step, the end of the thin twine is secured by a loop in the upper part of the frame to the upper circle.

 • Further, each of the metal guides is braided with twine, as densely as possible, using one of the nodes of the macramé technique. In the illustration, one of these simple strapping nodes is highlighted separately.

 • When a piece of twine ends, it and the end of a new piece should be fixed to a metal stand or circle using silicone hot melt adhesive. Then this section, so that it becomes invisible, overlap with weaving.

 • Vertical guides are braided to the level where horizontal twisted ropes will pass. In order not to miss the height of their passage, it is best to put the points of passage of the horizontal pattern on the metal parts of the frame using the corrector.
 • In the designated places, the horizontal rope on the frame racks is firmly fixed with twine.

 • Such a lampshade can be fixed to the ceiling both with the wide side up (shown in the illustration below), and in a suspended position, with the open part of the hemisphere down.

 • In addition, the lampshade can be decorated with beads or glass garlands, set on top of a “butterfly” frame or fixed artificial flowers.

As you can see - nothing complicated even for a novice master. True, the work may seem tedious, but there is no need to rush, a maximum of accuracy - and everything will work out.

Making frameless lampshade

In this section, we will consider three options for frameless lampshades, which are even more available in execution than products that require a rigid frame.

True, there is a principle reservation. In order to set the desired shape of the lampshade, a frame (more precisely, a template) will still be required, but temporary. As such a template that determines the configuration of the product, most often acts as a balloon, an inflatable rubber or plastic beach ball.

For the manufacture of lampshades in a similar manner, various materials are used, but the principle of the performance of work remains general. Of course, each of the cases has its own nuances, which will be described below.

Knitted napkin lampshade

In this option, you will need several knitted napkins of the same color or several shades that mix well with each other.

A tightly inflated balloon is used as a temporary template. For convenience, to keep the template stationary when gluing decorating materials, the ball is mounted on a suitable open container, for example, on a pot or bowl of the desired diameter.

In addition, a bowl for diluting glue is prepared. In this case, transparent casein glue is sometimes used, which is often used for wallpapering. However, PVA is considered more durable in its qualities, and it is more often used for the manufacture of frameless lampshades.

 • So, now it is necessary to impregnate each of the napkins with glue, and in a certain order to lay them on a ball template. Elements are completely immersed in glue, until completely saturated, and then wrung out, straightened and laid on a temporary frame. This takes into account that in the upper part of the future lampshade there should be a hole for mounting the cartridge for the bulb. However, it can be neatly cut later, after the complete drying of the resulting three-dimensional figure. And after cutting it is best to frame this hole with a plastic ring, putting it on the glue and sweeping it with threads.
 • The uppermost is glued first, and then the side wipes. They all overlap each other, approximately 100 ÷ 150 mm, so that after drying, these fabric parts reliably stick together.
 • Now it remains to wait until the glue has completely dried, since the lampshade should acquire a certain rigidity due to it.
 • When the glue dries, the ball is punctured and deflated, and the lampshade continues to maintain its shape.

 • Further, a lamp holder with an already connected power cord is installed in the hole. In the lampshade window, this assembly is externally and externally pulled together by special flanges moving along the thread on the outer surface of the cartridge. Such a connection will give additional rigidity to the upper part of the lampshade.

This version of the lampshade made of clothesline can be used for any type of lamp. Moreover, it can be suspended in the form of a classic lampshade or, as in the example below, is fixed with the wide side to the ceiling.

To create this model of the ceiling you will need to prepare:

Inflatable beach ball. The advantage of this basis is that upon completion of work, you can simply bleed air out of it, keeping it intact, and continue to use it subsequently for its intended purpose. Another option is a glass shade, in the form of which a decorative lampshade will be made.

Clothesline.

White plain thread and needle for sewing.

Adhesive designed for decoupage technique “Mod Podge”. Such glue is quite expensive, so it will be easier to make it yourself. To do this, ordinary PVA glue is diluted with pure warm water in a ratio of 2: 1, and for greater strength and, if necessary, to give a glossy effect, approximately one tablespoon of colorless water-soluble varnish is added for every 150 ml of glue.

Water-soluble paint - better in the form of an aerosol.

Transparent or white plain and masking tape.

A wooden plank with an even milled groove inside or with sides nailed on both sides - for forming a curly “snake” from the rope. A plastic cable channel of the required width may also be suitable for this purpose.

 • The first step in creating this product is the workpiece - a pattern is formed from the rope.

For this purpose, the rope is abundantly lubricated with glue and laid in the form of a "snake" in the channel of the prepared rail. It is important to ensure that the relief is laid with the same pitch, that is, it is even.

Here it is necessary to pay attention to the fixation of the rope pattern. In the illustrations, the threads fixing the bends of the rope in the required position are barely noticeable. In order to do this process, ordinary white threads and a needle will be required. The bends are stitched together without being pulled together so that basically the fastening threads pass inside the rope and are visible only in some places. Bonding is carried out on the upper and lower edges of the workpiece, "snake".

The workpiece will be ready when the glue is completely dry.

 • The next step is to prepare the ball to form a lampshade on it. In order to prevent the rope from sticking to the plastic surface of the ball, it should be glued with masking tape after inflation.

 • The dried rope blank must be carefully laid on the ball. Laying is carried out in a spiral, starting from the top, without forgetting to leave (form) a hole for the cartridge or for another retainer, depending on the characteristics of the lighting device. When laying the rope “snake”, it is advisable to grab every next turn with threads to the previous one - according to the same technique that was used to form the “snakes”.

 • After the shape of the lampshade is fully formed, that is, the rope "snakes" will be laid and grabbed with threads in a single structure, it must be abundantly smeared with glue, and then left to dry completely.

 • Next, there is a coloring process. It is carried out on both sides after removing the finished product from the ball, from which air is previously released. For painting, paint of any shade can be applied - white, gold or silver. If desired, the lampshade can be decorated in amber style.
 • After the paint dries, the lampshade is mounted on the ceiling lamp using a special decorative fixture or, again, using cartridge flanges, depending on the model of the lighting device. It is important when installing not to strongly press the ceiling to the base, otherwise it may well be deformed.

Lampshade made of thick threads or yarn

The simplest, and therefore most often used option is to make a lampshade from thick threads, yarn or thin rope. This material should not be too heavy.

For the manufacture of this version of the lampshade, the following materials will be required:

A suitable balloon or beach ball.

A sufficient number of threads (twine).

PVA glue.

Paint of the required color, if after making the lampshade it is planned to tint in the selected shade.

Work on the creation of this product takes place in the following order:

 • PVA glue is poured into a suitable container - it can be an ordinary bowl or a plastic container. However, with this approach, the entire working surface of the table will soon be stained with glue. Therefore, it is recommended to use a simple device, which is easy to make yourself. This is a deep plastic container with a lid, in which a ball of yarn or twine is placed. Then glue is poured there, which should cover the threads completely.

A hole is made in the container lid through which the end of the thread is drawn. In the manufacturing process, it remains only to gently pull the glue-treated material from the container. In this case, there will be no unnecessary overspending - excess glue will be wrung out when leaving the hole.

 • The end of the rope is attached to the rubber surface of the ball or ball using a piece of tape. Further, the rope is randomly wound around the base, but they usually do not forget to leave a window for attaching the ceiling to the lamp. Just at the border of this hole, the packing density, one way or another, turns out to be maximum, which, in principle, is required.

On the rest of the spherical surface, the density of the thread is determined by the master himself. It should be remembered that the denser the wound rope layer, the less it will transmit light from the lamp.

 • Having completed work on the future lampshade, it is left until the glue completely dries.

 • When the glue has completely dried, it is necessary to release air from the ball, and then remove the shell from the lampshade.
 • Further, the lampshade can be painted with spray paint or left in its original form.

 • The final step is to install the lampshade in the lighting fixture.

During installation, of course, a certain accuracy is required, since despite the quite satisfactory rigidity of the resulting sphere, it can still be washed with carelessly applied force.

In the publication under consideration, only a few simple options for lampshades are presented, from which you can choose the suitable one both in design and in the method of self-production. If readers have their own ideas, including those already implemented, write to us, send photo or video reports, and they will certainly be published.

Here, for example, the master shares his ability to make a lampshade using the origami technique:

APPENDIX: How to draw a scan of a truncated cone?

The first way - graphical construction

Just say - this method has a certain error, which, in principle, can be reconciled and, if desired, try to minimize it. It will become clearer further.

So, you need to draw a scan for a truncated cone.

What data is usually known?

The diameters of both circles are large ( D1) and small ( D2).

Height N.

If the framework of the truncated cone already exists (as was the case in some examples of creating lamp shades discussed above), then it is not difficult to measure the length of the lateral generatrix L. If there is no sample, it’s okay, this parameter will be determined during the construction.

 • So, the first thing to do is draw a side projection of the figure. It is not necessary to do such a projection in full size - it is quite possible to apply a convenient scale. This is not a scan yet, but just an auxiliary drawing, necessary only for taking measurements.

The lateral projection of a truncated cone is an isosceles trapezoid with a lower base equal to the diameter D1upper base equal to diameter D2, and a height equal to N. In the upper diagram, such a trapezoid is shown on the right side of the drawing.

 • After the trapezoid is precisely drawn, its sides should be extended with thin auxiliary lines to the point of intersection FROM.
 • From this point, the distances to one of their distant corners of the trapezoid ( Rb) and to the near corner ( Rs) Letters R used for a reason: these values are nothing but the radii of the arcs, which will further limit the development of the truncated cone. It is clear that the length of the generatrix L equal to the difference Rb -Rs.

Naturally, if the auxiliary drawing was performed with scaling, then it is necessary to bring the measured values to real ones.

Now you can proceed to the full-scale construction of the scan. That is, the drawing will already be performed in real sizes, 1: 1.

 • The development of a truncated cone is a sector of a ring formed by two circles whose radius we already know. It remains to determine those two radial lines that limit the angular length of this sector.

Do as follows:

Two circles with radii are drawn from the point of the selected center Rb and Rs (You can, of course, not complete circles, but only arcs, degrees of 140 ÷ 150. Although, sometimes much more is required). Thus, the width of the ring is set - it immediately turns out to be equal to the length of the side generatrix L.

A radial line is drawn from the center to the outer arc (from one of the edges of the drawing). It immediately sets one of the boundaries of the sector. (In the drawing, it is shown dotted from the center horizontally to the left).

Rv =π × D1 /n

n - an arbitrary number, but the larger it is, the smaller the error in construction will be. The explanation is simple - in fact, the length of the lower circumference of the cone is divided by n equal in length to the arcs. But it is problematic to postpone the length of the arc in the drawing, so chords that contract these arcs will be delayed. And the shorter the arc, the less its length differs from the length of the chord.

In the example shown in the drawing, the number n = 6. But it is possible (and recommended) to take it anyway, for example, 10 ÷ 12.

The calculated radius is set on the compass Rv, and an arc is drawn (the drawing shows a full circle, just for demonstration, but this is unnecessary), so that it intersects with the outer arc of the already outlined ring. The intersection point will give the center for the next arc (circle). In general, this construction must be repeated n time.

After plotting the latter ( n according to the account) of the arc, a radial line is drawn through the point of its intersection with the outer arc of the ring from the center. It just becomes the missing boundary of the sweep (in the drawing it is also shown with dashed lines - from the center to the right up).

Everything, on this, the construction of the development is completed - in the drawing it is highlighted in pink.

Do not forget that this is a “clean” reamer, that is, without allowances or valves for assembling a truncated cone or for attaching a cut fabric to a frame. So, if necessary, the necessary broadening in the necessary directions is provided.

The second method is the mathematical calculation of the scan parameters

Graphic construction error, and even with a large number n - small. But for those who love perfect accuracy, you can offer the construction of a drawing based on the results of geometric calculations.

So, it is necessary to determine the scan parameters for a truncated cone with a radius of the lower circle R1top - R2and tall N. (Note: this is not about diameters, but about radii - it's just easier to count).

And for drawing a sweep, the radii of the external arc are needed - Rb, the radius of the inner arc is Rs and the value of the central angle fbounding the sector of the resulting ring.

We don’t give the formulas - they are included in the online calculation calculators.

Truncated cone sweep calculators

Step 1 - determining the length of the generatrixL

This value may already be sometimes already known. But if not, it’s easy to calculate

If you belong to those people who terribly don't like boring things, and you prefer to see only unique interior items in your apartment, then you should think about how to make things amazing for yourself.

If you look at the picture in general, you can do anything with your hands, and it will not only be beautiful, but also unique. But, of course, it’s worth starting with the simplest. For starters, do exactly that thing, which is always in sight, which you will contemplate constantly.

Such things include chandeliers, lamps. We propose to make a lampshade for a table lamp with your own hands. Of all the fixtures, it is easiest to do. In addition, a table lamp can be an amazing gift.

How to make a lampshade for a table lamp?

Making lampshades for table lamps is quite an exciting undertaking. And not at all as difficult as it seems at first glance. This requires a little patience, diligence and, of course, some materials.

Master class - lamp shade

To make a lampshade in our case, you need:

 • the basis;
 • wire;
 • piece of tulle;
 • the cloth;
 • beads.

So, we begin to manufacture a unique lampshade:

 1. Take your old lamp, which has long broken ceiling. If this is not available, then buy the most inexpensive primitive lamp in the store. In stores that sell lamps, you can buy a table lamp without a ceiling for a penny.
 2. And now that we already have the foundation, we need to make a frame. We make it out of wire, it is better, of course, to attract a husband to this matter. If you have a whole ceiling, it’s just old and inconspicuous, and you decided to update it, then you don’t need to make a frame.
 3. For a while we set aside our base, shade or frame and proceed to create decorative elements for our lamp. Take any fabric, at your discretion and cut circles from it. Their diameter depends on what size you want the flower. Our diameter is 5 cm.
 4. If you do not have special hot scissors that immediately cut the edges of the fabric when cutting so that they do not roll in, use a candle or a lighter. If the edges of the fabric do not crumble, they can not be processed.
 5. Then take the needle and thread. Sew the edges of the fabric and tighten them well. You will get a beautiful petal. Make such petals a large number.
 6. Next, proceed to the assembly of the flower itself. Take five petals and sew them at the very bottom along the edge, close them into a ring and sew the first and last petals together. You will get a wonderful flower, in the middle of which you need to insert a bead, beads, sequins, button or other material. It depends on your wild fantasy. So do with all the petals.
 7. When you have created a sufficient number of flowers, take your frame or shade and proceed to the most interesting stage.
 8. If you attach your flowers to the ceiling, then just glue them with glue such as "Crystal Moment". It is completely transparent and will not leave marks, even if it comes out a little in prominent places.
 9. If you made a frame, then it is better to tighten it first. For this, an old, unnecessary tulle is suitable. And already sew your flower garden on it. By the way, you can make flowers colorful and arrange them in a specific pattern. Here you just need to give free rein to your imagination. But we got such a lamp.

And finally, a little advice. If you are making a wireframe, do not make it too narrow. This will allow him to decorate with flowers made even of the lightest fabric.

We are confident that such a table lamp will not only not go unnoticed, but will surprise all your guests.

Decorating fixtures or creating lampshades is not only interesting, but also useful. You can get the perfect item that fully matches the interior of your home, and at the same time, it's great to save money. You just need to buy the simplest lamp, and make it exclusive.

A cozy house is not only the right furniture, but the right lighting. Thanks to the beautiful lampshade, the interior will become exclusive, and the room will become warmer and more comfortable.

If there was a desire to make a permutation in the room, then together with it you need to update the chandelier and floor lamp. You can buy just a new product, or you can change the textiles on the lampshade with your own hands.

A detailed workshop on the manufacture of lampshades will help create a unique, decorative interior item. Having familiarized yourself with all possible manufacturing methods, you will be able to choose exactly the option that will be ideal for you.

Lampshade Material

Having a finished frame, you can proceed with the selection of material for the lampshade. It could be:

 • the cloth;
 • plastic;
 • knitting;
 • twine;
 • beads;
 • paper.

Junk materials that are usually thrown away are also suitable:

 • cardboard containers for eggs;
 • newspapers
 • gift wrapping;
 • old parts for a bicycle or car, etc.

Choosing the material for the lampshade, need to remember its color. It should ideally fit the created style. In addition, you need pay attention to the illumination of the room. If the room is poorly lit during the day, and there is twilight in it, then a lamp made of transparent or light material is more suitable for it. For a bright room, you can choose a dense and dark material for the lamp - but this will depend on the general decoration of the room.

As you know, red and yellow add heat and light to the room; therefore, to make the room warmer, you need to install a lamp in it with a yellow or red lampshade. If the room is located on the south side, and the sun warms up its walls all day, then the lampshade for the lamp installed in this room may be blue or green.

How to make a DIY lampshade

The frame is a stable base, mainly consisting of two circles. The circles can be of different or the same diameter; they are interconnected by vertical partitions. The length of the partition is the height of the lampshade.

To make cylindrical frame, you need to make two circles of the same diameter. If you need to make a classic frame for the lamp, then the lower circle must be of a larger diameter than the upper one.

Rounded shape can be obtained if the partitions are not straight, but slightly curved. The classic frame will benefit from this.

The shape of the frame will be interesting if there is a ring at the base and not at the top. It turns out that the concave partitions will be connected at the top at one point, and at the bottom - will be fixed at the same distance from each other.

For the manufacture of the frame is best suited wire, since it can ideally hold its shape, moreover, it is non-combustible. Suitable for work copper, aluminum or steel wire with a diameter of 2 mm or more.

DIY lamp designs

I really want to repair not only the furniture, but also the accessories after the repair in the room. These include lights, chandeliers, floor lamps and table lamps. It is desirable that such an interior item be an exclusive detail; it can be installed in a room on a coffee table or in a bedroom on a bedside table or on a chest of drawers.

To get an exclusive model of the chandelier, you need to visit the exhibition of handicrafts. If the model you like costs a lot of money, then do not be upset. You just need to apply imagination, “turn on” your hands and head - then you can make an exclusive model with your own hands. Since the chandelier, as a rule, has not one, but several identical shades, it will take longer to produce them than for one.

Modern lampshades can have a variety of shapes, decorate them to your liking. Preference is given to products decorated with colored beads.

If you want to update a lampshade for a table lamp, then cardboard is an ideal option. It should be durable, but thin, then the product will be completely unlike the others. The work is performed in the following sequence:

 1. From cardboard, you need to cut 4 identical frames, similar to those into which photos are inserted.
 2. A back piece of fabric needs to be glued to each product at the back.
 3. In each product, on the side, you need to make holes at the same distance. A needle or an awl is suitable for this. With the help of the laces, the parts are sewn together, and a flashlight is obtained.

This method of creating a new lampshade is considered the simplest, moreover, the product is very light. Depending on the situation in the room, the color of the fabric with cardboard is chosen. The decor of such a product can be any.

Filament lampshade

A ball made of threads looks very impressive in the interior. To make it, you need patience and perseverance, and besides them:

 • threads or twine;
 • ball inflatable round shape;
 • pVA glue;
 • scissors.

The desktop should be covered with oilcloth or unnecessary newspapers, and only after that start work.

 1. The ball must be inflated and tied with a thread.
 2. Wrap the ball with the selected thread. You can try to make various patterns, or you can just wind the thread on the ball without changing direction.
 3. Winding must be tight.
 4. Having reached the desired density, the thread can be cut.
 5. Carefully impregnate the entire winding with glue. The better the thread is impregnated with glue, the stronger the lampshade will turn out after drying.
 6. When the glue is completely dry, the ball can be pierced with a needle and pulled out. Where the ball's tail was, you need to cut a hole for the cartridge.

If, for some reason, you do not like the color of the product, you can repaint it in another, using paint in spray cans.

Ready twine lampshade can be varnished, bead or beads.

Paper lampshade

So that the paper could not heat up and light up when the light is on, the lampshade should be quite large. Under such a lampshade, it is better to buy an economical bulb, which is less heated.

Many ideas for making a lampshade for a floor lamp made of paper can be found on the Internet. Different colors are used, different figures are cut out. The result is a unique creation that can decorate any room.

DIY fabric lampshade

To work, you will need:

 • a piece of new fabric;
 • scissors;
 • tape measure or centimeter;
 • thread and needle;
 • pins
 • textile glue or stapler.

Next, you need to choose an object for restoration: it can be an old table lamp or any other lamp that has long been "living" with your grandmother. Thoroughly think through its appearance, which should be suitable for the already created interior of the room.

For example, you can make a new lampshade for a lamp checkered fabric. It is sewn on a frame of a certain size. If the old lamp has a frame, then consider that half the work has already been done. And if the lamp frame is missing, then this is not a disaster - you can do it yourself, there is nothing complicated about it. A fabric-shade fabric shade is perfect for your country style.

How to make a lampshade for a floor lamp? A master class on its manufacture can be found on the Internet.

To stitch a lampshade onto a cylinder-shaped frame, you need to measure its circumference and height. On the fabric, make a pattern, according to the received sizes, then cut it out as a template.

For the cone, you need to make a blank of whatman paper. Try on what was cut out, cut off all the excess. If something did not work out, you need to redo it.

The fabric for the lampshade is attached to the cone, while placing the pattern or ornament must be correctly. To make the surface smooth, the fabric must be pulled.

The lampshade fabric may be cotton or linen.

Lampshade for the lamp in the nursery

When a child is small, the lamp in the nursery is very relevant. You can always buy such a product, but to make it, you need not only time, but also imagination. Lampshade for the lamp is desirable to do with the child in order to develop his imagination. Since the ceiling will be in the children's room, you need to fully trust the taste of the child.

Naturally, on a nightlight the child will want to see his favorite cartoon characters. It will be necessary to work hard, and with it cut them out of paper or buy ready-made translations. You need to use the idea of a print on cotton.

For the bedroom

If the bedroom is purely female, then the ideal option for a lampshade would be a model, knitted with thread. The proposed option is knitted from white threads of the iris type, with which napkins are knitted to decorate shelves or tables. You can choose a pattern for thin knitting needles, if it makes it easier for you.

For a classic frame, a napkin does not start to be knitted from 3 air loops. The length of the chain should be slightly larger than the upper ring of the frame. Further, the lampshade fits in a circle, according to the scheme, like a napkin. It is possible that the height of the product will be longer than the length of the napkin, then it will be necessary to knit more in several rows.

The finished product must be washed and be sure to starchso that after drying it has a certain shape.

White knitted lampshade can decorate with colored beads or colored ribbons - It all depends on your imagination.

In a creative experiment, the main thing is to choose the right shade of small decorative elements. When the style, color scheme and shape are correctly selected, then even the most simple thing, made by yourself, will look exquisite.

To make the lampshade, made by yourself, neater and more beautiful, you need to paint the new frame of dense wire first, and then gently wrap it with cotton tape. Then the fabric of the stitched lampshade will not suffer.

Conclusion

It is very simple to update the lamp, the lampshade of which, over time, has lost its original appearance. After reviewing the relevant information and purchasing all the necessary materials, you can do a unique thing that will decorate the interior of your home.

Imagine to get a designer, exclusive lampshade to your lamp.

Lighting can both transform and make any room uncomfortable. It is enough to recall hospital cold corridors, and, for example, a cafe, where there is always soft warm light.

Especially in winter, people do not have enough sun, so it is very important that the house is always bright. You can create a special cozy atmosphere with the help of various lamps or floor lamps. However, it is not always possible to choose a lamp suitable for the interior of the room. But do not be upset, because for any lamp you can do it.

DIY frame and base for lampshade

First you need to choose a lamp or several fixtures for which you need to make fabric lampshades. It is better to use lamps with energy-saving or LED lamps. Ordinary light bulbs can just burn the fabric, so it’s better not to risk it.

Before starting work, you need to remove the frame for which the lampshade will be created. If the lamp does not have a frame, then it can be purchased, for example, in a special store or construction department.

Also, the frame for any lamp, whether it is a floor lamp, a table lamp or a chandelier, can be made independently. This will require thick wire and pliers.

The form at the base can be any. It will be easier to make a lampshade for a cylindrical or conical frame.

How to choose a fabric for a lampshade

First of all, you need to choose the right fabric for the lampshade. You can use light, hard or dense material. If you wish, you can even make a lampshade from wool, it all depends on the creator’s ideas and the interior of the room.

If the frame consists of ordinary wire, it is better to use an opaque material to close it. Dark silk, cotton and taffeta will do.

It is also worth remembering that the color of the fabric can give both cold light and warm. In the first case, you can use blue or green fabric, and in the second - yellow, orange or red.

The necessary materials for the manufacture of lampshade

Fabric lampshades can be done in many ways. If a new lampshade will stick on top of a regular plain lampshade, no preparatory work is required.

But if there is only a wire frame, it is better to paint it first, and then wrap it with light or dark cotton tape.

To make the lampshade look neat, you need to sew it on a typewriter.

In addition, you will need:

 • iron;
 • a simple pencil;
 • ruler;
 • the cloth;
 • pins
 • threads matching the color of the material;
 • kraft paper (or any thick, as well as whatman);
 • glue (you can take special for fabric or universal).

When all the necessary materials and tools are at hand, you can start sewing dIY fabric lampshade.

DIY lampshade master class

First step

First you need to make a template to cut the required amount of fabric.

There are two ways: if the frame is cylindrical, then you can measure the circumference and draw one line on the fabric, and then measure the height and draw a second line. After that, it remains only to draw two more sides of the rectangle and cut out the template.

If the frame is cone-shaped, then you can lay out the paper, take a pencil and gradually rolling the frame along the sheet, mark with a dashed line the lines of its sides.

The main thing is that the frame is completely scrolled, for this you can mark the reference point on it with a piece of thread, or a pin. After that, you can connect the lines and cut the pattern.

Second step

In order not to cut off more, or even worse, less fabric, it is necessary to attach a template to the lamp frame - it must be fully sized. If the template is larger, you need to cut off the excess paper, if less, you will have to re-measure and make a new template.

Third step

When the size of the template matches the size of the base for the lampshade, you can begin to attach it to the fabric. If the material is with a drawing, you need to position the template so that the drawn elements "look" in the right direction. It is necessary to calculate everything so that, for example, not to cut off the head of a flying bird. Otherwise, the lamp will look ugly.

The template must be applied to the wrong side of the fabric, and then it must be secured with pins. After that, you can gently circle the pattern along the contour. If the fabric is dark in color, you can use not a simple pencil, but special crayons for the fabric or a piece of soap.

After that, you need to draw allowances. To do this, draw lines at a distance of one and a half to two centimeters from the borders of the template.

Fourth step

Without removing the template from the fabric, you need to carefully remove the pins one at a time and wrap the allowances inward. Fix the bending lines with pins.

Now you need to remove the template and fill the sewing machine. Threads must be chosen so that they are almost not noticeable on the fabric.

Fifth step

Now you need to stitch the resulting part on a typewriter. This needs to be done only on three sides - one of the sides must be left unprocessed, so that later on to form a seam on the frame itself.

Need to flash at a distance of five to seven millimeters from the edge. If you wish, you can process the slices. But in any case, they will have to be hidden when the fabric adheres to the frame.

Sixth step

After that, turn on the iron and smooth the fabric blank. If dented parts remain, the fabric will not adhere well to the base, and the lampshade will look ugly.

Seventh step

The next part of the work must be carried out in a room that is well ventilated. First you need to cover the work surface with unnecessary paper or an old tablecloth and lay out the fabric. Then you need to put glue on it and stand for some time, which is indicated in the instructions for the glue.

Eighth step

Now you can glue the fabric to the frame. You need to hide the raw sections, and make the seam so that the lampshade is closed with a stitched edge.

If the lampshade is attached to the base of the wire, which is wrapped in cotton ribbons, it is not necessary to apply glue to the entire surface of the workpiece, it is enough only to the part that is in contact with the details of the frame. In this case, you need to stretch the fabric well.

Ninth step

The finished lampshade must be left for some time so that it is completely dry. After about a day, the lampshade can be worn on your favorite lamp and enjoy a beautiful item that will definitely become an adornment of any interior.

Fabric lampshade decoration

Table lamp with lampshade It looks much nicer than just an ordinary naked lamp. But if a plain color is chosen for the lampshade, then it can be originally decorated. Here are some ideas on how to make an interesting lampshade decoration out of fabric.

Provencal style lampshade

In order to decorate a plain shade, you will need a piece of fabric and fringe. Usually, green, turquoise and pastel shades of flowers are used, as well as checkered coloring or floral ornament.

First you need to choose a suitable fabric for the plain lampshade and cut two strips from it - one to decorate the top of the lampshade. This strip of fabric should be long to completely wrap the circle and make a bow. The second strip should have a circumference of the lower part of the lampshade, and it is necessary to sew a fringe to it. You can do this on a sewing machine.

All free edges of the fabric must be treated so that it does not crumble. After that, with glue or thread with a needle, you need to attach the fringed tape to the base of the lampshade so that the fringe hangs.

Then you need to decorate the top of the lampshade. To do this, glue or sew on the tape along the circumference, and tie the free edges with a bow.

You can also use lace for a Provencal style lampshade. This element is good in that it can simply be glued to the fabric.

You can make lace flowers, stripes or completely glue the lampshade out of the fabric with lace napkins.

Lampshade with fabric flowers

Another unusual idea that will allow table lamp with lampshade to become like a flowerbed - decoration with flowers from fabric.

For flowers, fabric of delicate shades is perfect, you can use, for example, organza or chiffon, or you can just take, for example, an old sweater, cut strips and twist roses out of them.

You can decorate a lampshade with just a few flowers, but if you have the time and patience, you can make a whole bunch of flowers to completely cover the lampshade.

DIY lampshade from shreds

If at home there are many pieces of different fabrics, you can make a lampshade from colorful shreds.

In order to make such a lampshade, it is necessary to use the technique of sewing pieces to the fabric base. The easiest way is to cut a piece of fabric to fit the frame and divide it into several wedges.

Then, to each wedge, you need to sew patches as you like - you can sew on strips of fabric diagonally, or make small squares. So that the process does not drag out, it is better to use a sewing machine.

After that, all wedges with shreds will need to be sewn together and glued to the base of the lampshade.
