Measurements for the manufacture of glass structures. Glass partitions: types, glass thickness, installation How to correctly measure for a glass partition

The measurement has two purposes.
The first is determining the suitability of openings for the installation of glass partitions and structures and, if necessary, drawing up a technical task for additional preparation work (alteration of crooked openings, installation of embedded parts, etc.).
The second is to determine the exact dimensions of the openings, according to which working drawings of glasses and non-standard fittings will be prepared in the future.

In case of errors at the first stage of installation, it turns out, for example, that it is impossible to attach a partition to the existing suspended ceiling, and pipes of the "warm floor" pass under the tiles and installation of the door in this place is impossible. If the dimensions are incorrectly taken, alteration of the manufactured glasses or non-standard parts (and it is good, if not all) may be required!

The key to successful measurement is the qualification of the measurer and the availability of the necessary tools. Let's talk about them.

1. Roulette.
The simplest tool, which, nevertheless, in a number of situations turns out to be more convenient than more expensive counterparts.

2. Laser tape measure.
The main tool of any measurer. Modern roulettes from good manufacturers are reliable and provide minimal errors. However, it should be remembered that a laser tape measure may not always be used:
- Some types of coatings (for example, translucent marble) reflect the beam of the tape measure so that it gives overestimated measurements
- The laser tape does not measure the distance to reflective surfaces (mirror, polished metal, etc.)
- It is not always possible to measure the distance to a surface with a strong relief - at the slightest displacement of the tape measure, the reflection occurs from a point on the surface located at a completely different distance. The way out is to use mechanical measuring instruments in such situations or to "replace" the surface. Masking tape glued to the mirror will allow you to measure the distance to it.

3. Telescopic ruler
Very useful for measuring heights when a laser tape measure cannot be used.

4. Laser plane builder.
Indispensable for any measurement. Allows you to check the horizontality of the floor and the verticality of the walls and determine how many millimeters and in what places they are filled up. We prefer to use full-size models with three laser planes - they can be used to transfer points and lines from the floor to the ceiling and vice versa strictly vertically, to build a straight and arbitrary angle. On openings for glass partitions more than two meters wide, the usual level is no longer able to solve even the simple problem of checking the evenness of the floor. Therefore, we can safely say that it is impossible to perform a high-quality measurement without a laser builder.

5. Electronic level - goniometer.
Useful when you need to measure any angle or angle of a line (for example, a flight of stairs) relative to the horizon.

The design of our home is a creative process that allows us to get completely different dwellings in terms of functionality, purpose and type from the premises of the same layout. A wide variety of new and old materials provide a lot of opportunities for the implementation of the most daring projects. For example, glass partitions in an apartment or house allow you to give a dwelling a non-standard look, change the layout without erecting new walls. Permission is not required for their installation, they do not "load" the space, but divide it, blocking out separate zones.

Types and varieties

First, let's talk about the structural features of glass partitions. They can be conditionally divided into the following groups;

There are also author's options that are difficult to attribute to any type, although most of them are variations on the theme of frame and French glass partitions, in which different geometric shapes of the frame are used, different types of glass. It's just hard to imagine how differently the results of such experiments might look.

Stationary

Glass partitions in an apartment or house are made stationary or mobile. Stationary walls are replaced by ordinary walls, they are simply made of unusual material. This is an excellent solution if the part of the room to be fenced off is obtained without windows - enough light penetrates through the glass wall. Such a technique can still often be found in shared offices: glass partitions mark the boundaries but do not create the feeling of a hive with small honeycombs / cells. Each has its own working corner, but the room is the same.

Stationary partitions do not fold, do not move….

Stationary glass partitions in an apartment and a house can be found in bathrooms, where they fence off the shower or bath from the rest of the room. They are also called "sanitary glass partitions". This separation provides waterproofing, but does not visually divide the space, which leaves even a small bathroom spacious. In this case, frameless glazing is often used. The glass joints are sealed with a transparent sealant, perfectly retain their water resistance and do not spoil the appearance. This is better for two reasons. Firstly, it is easier to take care of, there is no place for water, dirt, salt deposits to accumulate. Secondly, profiles for frequent contact with water are expensive. So this is a smart decision.

Mobile

Mobile glass partitions are usually design solutions that allow you to use the same area in different ways at different times. In this case, the glass wall can be moved. This is a great solution for small apartments, this technique is also used in the design of studio apartments.

Mobile partitions

This technique is also used when combining a kitchen with a gas stove and a living / dining room. To ensure safety, the room in which the gas appliance is installed must be fenced off and have doors. But the point of unification is precisely to remove the partition. This contradiction is resolved with a glass mobile wall. It is completely or partially made of glass, sliding / folding doors are installed.

Mobile glass partitions in an apartment can be:

If you cannot decide if you need a fixed or mobile partition, consider the issue of price. Mobile partitions are much more expensive. The difference can be twice or more. If the budget is limited, it is reasonable to make a combined glass partition in an apartment or house - make part stationary, and part sliding.

Types of glasses and their maximum sizes

The same glass partition can be made from different types of glass. It is important to choose the right parameters, performance characteristics of the material, and for this you need to know their features and properties. If you have come up with such a design yourself, it is better to consult an experienced glazier. Not all designers have all the information they need, and ordinary people are simply unaware of certain things.

Glass partition can be with doors

Thickness for partitions for various purposes

First of all, you need to decide on the thickness of the glass, which is better to use when erecting a partition. Depends on the type of partition, the place of its installation, the type of glass used.

If the partition is external, it serves to separate a covered veranda, winter garden, etc. most likely, you will need a double-glazed window, and that's another story and a different approach.

Familiar silicon glass

Glass partitions in an apartment can be made of transparent, matte, patterned, tinted, colored sheepskin, mirrors and their combinations. The dimensions of the glass sheet depend on the type of glass. An ordinary glass sheet is 1200 mm wide and 2000 mm high. If larger sizes are required, either imposts are made (additional dividing profiles) or tempered glass is used. It is distinguished by higher strength characteristics; when destroyed, the fragments are not sharp, so the likelihood of injury is low. The maximum dimensions of tempered glass with a thickness of 6 to 19 mm allow you to make a one-piece partition for almost any room: 3210 mm * 6000 mm. There is only one drawback of this glass: it is expensive. And the larger the sheet size, the higher the price.

Triplex can be armored, or it can consist of three glasses glued with two films ...

The strength of laminated glass is even higher: duplex and triplex. The glass sheets are glued with a transparent plastic film (duplex is glass with a film, triplex is two glasses and a film between them. The technology is designed so that the transparency of multilayer glasses does not decrease, breaking glass does not scatter, but becomes covered with a network of cracks, fragments remain hanging on the film. The maximum dimensions of duplex and triplex are 2600 mm * 3100 mm. What glass is better for glass partitions in an apartment: duplex or triplex? You cannot say for sure - it depends on the purpose of the partition. Duplex is lighter and cheaper, triplex has better characteristics in heat and sound insulation So if a glass partition in an apartment or house will fence off the room from the street, the best options are a double-glazed window or triplex. For an internal partition, you will have to choose between ordinary, tempered glass or duplex.

Organic glass

Another glass partitions in an apartment or house can be used acrylic glass or sheet polycarbonate. They have low thermal conductivity (0.2-0.3 W / (m , cost less. These are their advantages. Plexiglas also have high plasticity at a certain temperature, due to which they can be bent into any shape. After cooling down, the glass retains its predetermined shape.

Plexiglas can be used when arranging glass partitions in an apartment or house.

The disadvantages are that the material melts at not the highest temperatures (250-300 ° C), scratches easily appear on the surface, which significantly reduce the light transmittance. There is nothing you can do about melting - they must not be installed near heating devices or an open flame. And they fight against scratches by sticking a thin but durable film. Plexiglas thickness - from 2 mm to 50 mm, sheet dimensions - 2050 mm * 3050 mm.

There can be different objects in acrylic glass

Acrylic glass is cast and extruded. Cast - more durable, can be of considerable thickness. Extrusion - thinner (the maximum thickness depends on the extruder), can be opaque, light-diffusing, colored. There is also decoacryl, a variety with a matte or smooth surface. various objects can be inserted inside - from sparkles to any small objects. Decorators like to use such acrylic glasses.

Glass blocks and glass profiles

For stationary glass partitions for an apartment or house, in an office, you can use glass blocks and glass profiles. Both are glass products, but they have a different look and manufacturing technology. Partitions made of these materials allow light to pass through, but are not completely transparent. Silhouettes are visible, at best. The details, even in very good lighting, cannot be disassembled.

Glass blocks are poured into certain shapes. Two identical fragments are then combined into one block - a parallelepiped. They are small in size, produced in the form of squares or rectangles, from transparent or colored glass. The edges can be even or patterned, with the grooved surface usually on the inside and the outside smooth.

Stationary partitions made of glass blocks and glass profiles

Glass blocks have good thermal insulation capacity, since there is an air gap between two glass walls. From them, like from bricks, a wall is laid, but at the same time it is not necessary to lay it apart, there may be a seam in a seam. Glass partitions in an apartment made of glass blocks let light through, but are not transparent. This is a good option if you need to fence off, for example, a bath from the rest of the room, put a partition in a long room.

Stekloprofilit - P or U-shaped product made of bent alkali silicate glass. It is produced in long strips (up to 3 meters), which are inserted into a special profile. The wall can be assembled single, and you can - double, expanding the profiles towards each other.

Measuring openings for the manufacture of glass partitions, glass doors and other glass structures requires special accuracy.

Why do you need accuracy in measurements?

  • and, which could compensate for errors in measurements or hide the unevenness of the opening. An incorrectly performed measurement can cause too large gaps or that the glass "will not fit into the opening";
  • but it will not be possible to "cut the glass" in place, because glass partitions and doors are made only of tempered glass, which is produced at the factory according to the size of the opening. If you start drilling or cutting off tempered glass, it will "explode" from the resulting internal stresses, it will not crack somewhere on the edge, but it will completely collapse.

That is why it is so important to take into account every millimeter and any level differences when measuring.

Measurement of office partitions

Who measures the openings?

Measurement of openings in the StekloMet company is carried out by a design engineer who is responsible for the correctness of measurements and develops design documentation for your project.

The design engineer will tell you about the features and advise which fittings are best to use in your case, what you can save on, and where it is better to install the highest quality, albeit more expensive, components.

We use modern measuring instruments to measure the openings underneath: a laser tape measure, a laser level and, if necessary, squares and templates.

A design engineer can bring samples of fittings to the object for future construction.

When to call the measurer?

  • To place an order:

For the final measurement of the openings, the measurer of glass structures must be called when your opening already has a "fine finish": there is a finishing floor covering on the floor, the walls are plastered and painted, tiles or porcelain stoneware are laid in the bathroom.

  • For advice on the preparation of openings:

Sometimes a visit to the object of a design engineer is necessary even before the "finishing" finishing of the openings.

A specialist of the StekloMet company will issue a technical assignment to builders on the preparation of openings for installation, tell from what material and in what place it is necessary to provide embedded elements and advise on the features of installation work.

Measurement result

Based on the measurement results, the Customer's Terms of Reference is drawn up, which is an integral part of the Contract Agreement. This document displays all your wishes, the state of the opening at the time of measurement and what the result of the work performed should be. A sketch of the future structure, diagrams and junction nodes are drawn in detail.

Measurement cost

* subject to filling out an application on the website

** the cost of measurement is deducted from the cost of the contract

the cost of measurement outside the Moscow Ring Road is determined by the distance from the Moscow Ring Road.

Having made the decision to install office partitions in the rented premises, the customer in most cases already has an idea of the requirements for the organization of space, which are regulated by the owner. Moreover, large companies, as a rule, employ specially trained construction workers, which does not always apply to medium and small businesses. So what do you need to know before make an order for glass partitions?

Photo 1. The size of the opening must exactly match the glass partition or door to be installed.

At first, you must understand WHEN you need translucent structures. Why is the term important here in the first place? Of course, you can get an accurate calculation right away, but under the only condition - you not only have the most detailed project of finishing the premises, but we are also confident that your construction contractors will carry out ALL the final work, in exact accordance with the geometric dimensions, the bearing capacity of the openings and the deadlines for implementation. This is the ideal. In reality, everything is somewhat different. Glass partitions and doors are essentially customized products... To remove these dimensions, accordingly, it is possible, at least, in the presence of the finally formed space of the room. The first question that our measurer will ask you is: "What is the degree of readiness of the premises?" If your premises is at the level of general construction works or even a rough finish - it is too early to shoot the exact dimensions, but it's time to think about the design of the partition.

Photo 2. When installing glass partitions for finishing, very little debris is produced.

Second... On the floor plan, mark the contour of the future partition and pay the greatest attention to its movable elements - DOORS. Why glass doors are so important? It's very simple - the type of glass doors often determines the type of the entire partition structure. It is possible to list all types of doors and the corresponding types of partitions, but here it is easier to go from the opposite, sliding doors are traditionally executed only on all-glass partitions... All other types of doors can be built into both all-glass and frame types of partitions. Perhaps, of course, everything, and according to your persistent desire, we will also execute frame sliding doors, but this will already be an easy form of building perversions.

Photo 3. Installation of a glass partition is carried out in a finished plasterboard opening, after finishing the premises.

Third... Having decided on glass doors and the corresponding type of partition, you have two ways: if it is a frame partition, you should think about the TYPE of GLAZING and the demand for deaf (opaque) elements for filling modules. If your choice fell on all-glass partitions, then the most critical question of this stage is bearing capacity of the opening... But we will discuss the bearing capacity of the openings, as well as the ceiling sound insulation means in the next paragraph.

So, the filling and the type of glazing.

The horizontal elements of frame partitions, in addition to their functional purpose - the distribution of bearing loads, provide an additional opportunity to regulate transparency. The lower elements of the interframe modules are sometimes filled with opaque sheet materials, which provides an unregulated, partial privacy of the room. But let's not forget that we initially decided on a glass partition as the desired design. To ensure privacy, but already in an adjustable mode, various types of blinds are called upon. Blinds can be installed both inside double glazing, and outside of a single. The type of glazing always depends on the required sound insulation level. But this is a large separate topic that we will not cover in this article. Having decided on the type of glazing (double / single) and the type of filling (deaf / transparent), we came to the consideration of the most insidious aspect of the bearing capacity of the opening.

Fourth... The bearing capacity of the opening is called an insidious aspect for the following reason - many customers initially ignore this option and, having received a finish with the presence of lightweight ceiling structures such as Amstrong, are faced with the impossibility of fixing the upper elements of the office partition. Here again we have two solutions. If you are dealing with an all-glass partition, CEILING STRUCTURE (in cases of suspended ceilings), you cannot avoid it and our specialists will calculate this element. If you order a glass partition of a frame (frame) structure, then you can do without it, but in this case you will have to come to terms with the fact that the suspended ceiling itself will serve as sound insulation... You will face approximately the same set of questions when you have plasterboard walls. But the solutions in this case will be similar to the above. Let's summarize the fourth point: The main load of the structure falls on the floor and ceiling therefore it is important that these parts have the required stiffness or embedded element. Ceiling construction (located above suspended ceilings) is 100% required in cases of all-glass partitions and solves the problems of sound insulation in cases of frame type glass construction.

Photo 4. Please note that the glass partitions on the left are made so that their upper part rests against the plasterboard opening, and on the right, a ceiling structure was assembled to hold the glass partitions.

Fifth (and last)... When calling the Measurer, you must be fully aware that this is not a designer or an architect. He will, of course, provide available materials on products and services, talk about workflow algorithms and the most effective solutions. But all this is only within the framework of his vision and nothing more. The measurer identifies your needs, proposes standard solutions and takes the exact dimensions of the room... All other work is done by other employees, and your Personal Project Manager is in charge of this process. It is the Project Manager who brings together all aspects of design and construction and organizes effective communication between the parties.
