The living room is a place where guests are greeted, spend time chatting with friends, and celebrate holidays. And in many families intimate tea drinking in the circle of the closest ones also migrated from the kitchen to a spacious living room with soft sofas and beautiful original living room walls - slides.

Living rooms are no longer the same. Thanks to modern building and finishing materials, stunning interiors of the living room are being recreated today, and even furniture for the living room with your own hands. Every day, methods are being improved and new finishing options appear, but the main stages of repair and construction remain unchanged. It is about how to design and make wall slides for living rooms with your own hands and will be discussed in this article. Since it is impossible to cover all the construction methods in one article, we will not dwell on two - walls made of plasterboard and walls made of wood or chipboard and plywood.

2. Wood in the interior of the living room. The wall is a do-it-yourself slide.

For many years, wood and its analogues in the form of chipboard and plywood have remained one of the common materials used to make the wall in the living room. This versatile material makes it possible to build walls - slides of almost any complexity. The variants of the wall models proposed below are placed in the niches of the rooms. Wooden slides are often made in combination with other materials. For example, often the base of the walls is sheathed with wood siding or drywall boards. In this case, the side and rear walls, if installed, perform more an aesthetic function. The outer part of the built-in furniture slides also surprises with a variety of decor in the form of stone panels, glass and mirrored stained-glass windows. There are also extravagant furniture options, consisting of shelves, modular cabinets - dressers, and whole mini-towns - labyrinths. ("Bedroom, study and living room in a one-room apartment", "Attic living rooms. White and dark wood in decoration.", "High-tech living room with a slide wall for a favorite cat"). (Fig. 3, 4, 5)

So, using the example of one of the apartments, we will consider in more detail the process of manufacturing and installing the wall in the living room. This process is conventionally divided into the following stages:

* Creation of a drawing and carrying out calculations of the size and quantity of the required material. This part of the process is very important. The speed of work on the actual installation of the living room wall directly depends on how scrupulously the measurements of the niche and all future pieces of furniture will be performed and transferred to paper. To obtain the most accurate result, it is important to take into account not only the dimensions of the niche, height, width and number of elements of the furniture wall, but also the thickness of the material used. The figure shows an approximate drawing of what will be required when installing built-in furniture. Based on the proposed sample, you can independently describe and calculate the material for your living room slide. Renovation of the living room photo. (Fig. 6, 7)

* Having drawn up a drawing and a sketch of the future built-in furniture wall in the living room, you can start collecting the necessary tools and preparing the material.

The list of tools required to perform work on the device of such furniture includes familiar and familiar items for carpentry work. You will need tools for measurements (tape measure, square, plumb line, marker), for installation (drill, screwdriver, puncher, jigsaws) and for processing (spatula, painting tools, grinders or handheld devices). ("Painting tools, brushes, rollers", "Spatula and additional tools for painting work", "Joiner's tools", "Drill and screwdriver", "Power tools. Perforator, jackhammer", "Power grinding tools", "Jigsaws, reciprocating saws , planers, milling machines ").

In our case, you will need wooden beams for the installation of finishing panels (if you wish, you can replace them with a metal profile), several beautiful polished and processed beams for mounting shelves (they are also sometimes replaced with metal corners or other decorative shelf holders). You will also need several more types of boards (for shelves, sashes, sidewalls) and platbands for decorating the sashes of the wall pedestals (the sashes can be purchased ready-made in the required size and, taking into account their size, calculate the entire slide). With the help of fiberboard, the part above the fireplace will be sewn up, so you need to prepare this material in advance. Do not forget the accessories (awnings, locks, magnets, door handles).

* The next step will be to work with electrical wiring. Before sheathing the walls with panels and slabs, you need to update or even carry out new wiring. It is important to calculate how many and in which part of the wall it is better to place the sockets in order to make it more convenient to connect the equipment and not create unnecessary bundles with wires and extension cords.

* Finally, the assembly of the structure. We will consider this process in more detail using an example illustrated with photographs.

After updating the wiring, the preparation of the wall for decoration begins. To do this, install the frame as shown in the figure and sheathe it with panels. In this case, white laminated panels are used. In more detail about how the installation of panels for wall decoration is carried out in the listed articles: "Wall panels. Types, features. Photo." , "Wall panels. Do-it-yourself selection and installation", "Plastic panels", "Wall paneling", "Laminated panels". (Fig. 8, 9)

Further, strips of wooden beams are attached to the walls. They will function as shelf holders. The lower pedestals are made of glued wide boards, but if chipboard or plywood is used, then parts of the required size are cut out. ("Chipboard in the interior. Types and methods of processing", "We erect a podium. Photo in the interior", "Do-it-yourself library with an office and a guest room.")

After assembling the supporting structure, I proceed to its refinement. The photo shows how with the help of elements made of fiberboard and decorative slats with platbands, you can make beautiful sashes on the pedestals and hide the joints of the structure. To maintain an attractive look, decorative frames are held together with special glue. After giving time for the glue to harden and gain strength, the entire structure of the furniture wall is covered with paint. If there is a desire to preserve the external texture of wood, then it is better not to use fiberboard for decoration, but to use wood everywhere. ("How to cover wood with wood stain", "Wood stain", "Types of varnishes"). (Fig. 10, 11, 12, 13)

No less popular is the methods of arranging drywall furniture. The use of drywall does not have such a long history as the use of wood, but it is loved by both professional builders and home craftsmen for its versatility and relative cheapness.

The main difficulty when working with drywall structures is the ability to correctly design the frame. Directly drywall also has its own nuances of use, and while working with it, a huge number of questions arise, the answers to which can be found in the following articles: "Walls with niches and shelves made of plasterboard", "We create a unique design of the ceiling", "Walls of drywall "," Arch from plasterboard. As in the case of drywall structures, as with wooden structures, you can often see the use of not only drywall. To create original and bright slides, wooden and glass parts are used, they are also decorated with slabs of natural stone or panels imitating natural stone, inserts from processed wooden boards and colorful untreated tree trunks. Today, a huge amount of such ready-made decor made of plaster and plastic is being sold in hardware stores. You can also use the ceiling plinth for decoration (Ceiling plinth, Bas-relief in a modern interior, A piece of nature in the interior - a unique stucco tree from, Do-it-yourself bas-relief on the wall, Types of plinths and how to install them). Modern owners want to see their home not only cozy and comfortable. The interior plays an important role now. It should be exclusive and unique. Therefore, many craftsmen strive to make furniture with their own hands. This allows not only to save money, but also to collect such interior items that will satisfy the individual needs of household members.

Living room furniture should be comfortable and stylish. In addition, it must be in harmony with the entire interior of the room.

Thanks to the abundance of materials and accessories that can be found in stores selling goods for the manufacture and repair of furniture, it is not difficult to develop and implement your own design of cabinets, pedestals and shelves. Even a novice master can do it. It is only necessary to determine in advance the upcoming scope of work.

Drawing up a drawing of furniture

The assembly of any furniture should begin with drawing up a detailed drawing of the future product. On the diagram, it is imperative to indicate not only the overall dimensions, but also the dimensions of each individual part. Only such a drawing will allow you to assemble a wardrobe or cabinet without errors and annoying flaws. Moreover, the shortcomings made during the preparatory work are sometimes quite difficult to eliminate during installation.

Figure 1. Drawing of the wall for the living room.

If you have some experience in the manufacture of interior items, then it is wiser to immediately develop a whole furniture set, rather than individual modules. This approach will ensure a consistent interior design. In addition, you can immediately take into account the size of the furniture and its location in the room.

The general drawing will be useful even if you are a beginner furniture maker. Only 1 TV stand or bookshelf can be assembled at first. And then return to a single scheme and mount a rack or cabinet already. In any case, the preparation of a preliminary drawing must begin with taking measurements. In this case, it is imperative to take into account the dimensions of the room itself.

Usually, for a set in a living room, the following dimensions are taken into account:

  1. The height of the modular structure (first of all, the dimensions of the overall furniture itself are taken into account).
  2. Long headset (as a rule, it should be equal to the size of the wall).
  3. Depth of storage spaces.

The dimensions of other parts depend on the parameters of the depth of the boxes. For example, the size of the top covers of cabinets and countertops. Usually, the lower tier of the kit is made deeper, and the upper tier wider.

As an analogue, you can take the overall dimensions of the finished furniture module. They are listed in the manufacturers' catalogs. Naturally, you can take your own dimensions into account. But it is necessary to maintain the indicated proportions. As a result, you should have a single circuit, an example of which is shown in Fig. one.

General design of the living room module

For self-assembly, it is most convenient to assemble symmetrical structures. Moreover, the so-called wall fits perfectly into any living room. As a rule, such furniture consists of the following elements:

  • linen closet;
  • book rack;
  • TV stand with shelves for video and audio equipment;
  • closed storage sections (with shelves and drawers);
  • open sections (what used to be called a slide).

Their location depends only on your tastes, preferences and characteristics of the room. They can be lined up or assembled at an angle. Some of the elements can be located on the floor, and some on the wall (hanging boxes). But remember that a modern living room should be comfortable, comfortable and safe. Therefore, you should not arrange furniture so that 1 elements lie on top of others. For example, mezzanine drawers on cabinets. Try to secure every single piece.

Figure 2. Drawing of a wall assembled from several parts for a living room.

The wall, assembled from separate parts, is also convenient because the maximum length of chipboard or plywood sheets does not even reach 3 m. Therefore, the basic modules usually consist of 2 or 3 parts. In this case, it is necessary to calculate the overall structure so that the joints of the 2 modules do not violate the symmetry of the entire module. This disadvantage can be easily eliminated by providing for the presence of a single facade for neighboring pedestals. Or make 1 element much longer than the others. An example of such a layout is shown in Fig. 2.

As a rule, long pieces of furniture are placed at the bottom. They can serve not only as a basic support for the entire structure, but also visually unite the furniture module into a single stylistic solution.

Back to the table of contents

Module element design

Each individual piece of furniture, from which a one-piece structure is assembled, can be conditionally disassembled into the following parts:

  • frame;
  • bottom (horizontal plane);
  • lid or countertop;
  • sidewalls;
  • facade.

The frame usually consists of an upper and a lower frame, tied together by longitudinal stiffeners, on which the corners of the furniture fall. If the size of the cabinet or cabinet is small, and for their manufacture material is used with a thickness of 25 mm (chipboard, chipboard or furniture board), then you can do without a frame. In this case, the walls themselves will give the necessary rigidity to the structure.

The dimensions of each individual piece of furniture in the living room must be calculated taking into account the legs or lower supports (wheels).

Figure 3. Scheme of the simplest TV cabinet.

It is necessary to take into account the protruding details of the decorative finish. For example, fittings. In the general drawing, these dimensions are not taken into account. But they are important when you think over the necessary depth of the boxes.

After you have taken into account everything you need, you can start drawing up a detailed drawing of a separate piece of furniture. In fig. 3 shows an example of a simple TV stand.

If you do not have enough experience in making furniture with your own hands, then you should not tackle complex structures with curved facades and curved countertops. Strict geometric lines can look just as good. The main thing is to choose high-quality material.

Back to the table of contents

The choice of material for the manufacture of furniture

Many parts for assembling furniture can now be purchased ready-made. These can be, for example, complex shaped shelves made of glass or chipboard. In specialized stores, they sell ready-made facades and countertops, mirrors and other structural elements that allow you to mount exclusive interior items.

In addition, carpentry workshops offer to cut blanks of the sizes and shapes you need. Therefore, it is not necessary to have sophisticated woodworking equipment to make furniture yourself. Such a service will allow using not only non-standard parts, but also provide for reliable fastening of elements to each other.

The fact is that the most durable way of connecting dimensional parts is considered to be a thorn-groove assembly. But to make it you need a milling machine or a hand cutter. And also considerable experience in using them. But all the necessary units and parts can be performed by a master for an additional fee. You just have to collect the furniture.

Going to the workshop, prepare a drawing with all the necessary dimensions. Ideally, you should have on hand a diagram of each individual part with the locations of the fasteners and their dimensions marked on it. If you want to order the manufacture of curly elements (lids or countertops), then you must first make a paper template in full size.

For self-assembly of furniture, the following materials are now usually used:

  • Chipboard or MDF - for side walls and frames of overall furniture;
  • Laminated chipboard - for facades, covers and countertops;
  • thin plywood or fiberboard - for the back walls and bottoms of the boxes.

The thickness of the material depends on the design of the furniture. For the manufacture of furniture cases in the living room, MDF or furniture board (solid wood) is usually used. But option 2 will cost much more. Particleboard is considered more reliable and less susceptible to temperature extremes and moisture. Therefore, this material is often taken in the manufacture of kitchen furniture.

Everyone, without exception, wants to see their home beautiful and comfortable. An important role in creating such an environment is played by the interior, which harmoniously fits into functional and original furniture. The simplest example is a wall in a large room. It has a place for clothes, linen, TV, and books. And the design can be whatever you want. Modern manufacturers offer several options for solving this issue. This is either a serial model with template parameters and design - here you will have to try to harmoniously fit it into your apartment. Or an individual order that meets all your requirements and requests. Low-cost walls have standard designs and standard parts; cheap materials are used for their production. And elite models are often made from expensive raw materials, and not everyone can afford this option. And here there is a third solution - a wall with your own hands.

Furniture functionality

For many, the do-it-yourself slide wall is associated with the Soviet past, and some consider this furniture unnecessarily bulky and not fashionable. But manufacturers disagree. Modern furniture sets perfectly fit into the interior, while streamlining the living room space. The volumes of filling cabinets and shelves will give a chance to finally hide all things and free up the rest of the room:

  • If several people live in the apartment, then a wall of such a shape is needed to accommodate the belongings of each family member.
  • If there are books, then the number of shelves should correspond to the size of the home library.
  • In the case of a large number of dishes, which simply cannot be completely placed in the kitchen, it will not be superfluous to come up with cabinets with glass doors in the wall, where all the crystal can be placed.

Everyone is trying to arrange the living room so that it is convenient to be in it both for the family itself and for friends who come to visit. Therefore, the solution to the question of how to make a wall with your own hands should be approached very carefully.

DIY wall

Given the abundance of modern materials and technologies, you can mount any type of wall in the living room with your own hands. Namely:

  • Classic wall;
  • Modular design;
  • Corner model;
  • Hinged option;
  • Mixed walls.

Important! It is worth noting that the classic version with many compartments and great functionality is only possible for specialists who know how to work with wood. If there is no experience, then it is better to turn to furniture production, because the material must be correctly selected, prepared and processed.

For the rest - simpler options, raw materials such as chipboard, MDF, plastic and even metal are suitable.

Remember that before making a choice in favor of making this or that type of wall with your own hands, evaluate the following nuances:

  • The type of material you plan to use, its color and texture.
  • The stylistic focus of the headset.
  • Dimensions and shape of the wall in the hall with your own hands.
  • Features of its installation in your apartment.
  • Parameters of individual elements.
  • Features of the organization of electrical communications for lighting elements.

Important! The wall in the living room with your own hands can have paneled facades with various ornaments. Cabinets can have both opening and hinged doors. Built-in showcases can be closed both with glass with stickers and stained glass painting. There are a lot of options, and all of them must be taken into account before starting work.

Essential elements

To create dimensional drawings of the walls for the living room, you need to carefully measure the distance where you plan to install it. Length, height, width - these are the main parameters from which you need to build on. Then you have to decide what and where will be.

Important! For self-assembly, it is most convenient to assemble symmetrical structures.

The wall in the hall with your own hands is nothing more than a set of various elements, such as:

  • wardrobe;
  • TV stand;
  • glass rack;
  • open shelves for books;
  • shelves for various decorative elements.

Important! The main plus of independent work is that you yourself can vary the elements among yourself. For example, exclude shelving, add shelves for books, or leave only wardrobes and space for a TV in the finished structure.

Drawings of the walls for the living room with dimensions is a very important stage in the work. The speed of work directly depends on how scrupulously the measurements of all future pieces of furniture will be performed and transferred to paper. To obtain the most accurate result, it is important to consider not only the size and number of elements, but also the thickness of the material used.

Tools

Having drawn up drawings of the walls for the living room with dimensions, you can begin to prepare the necessary tools and material. The list of what is needed first, as a rule, includes:

  • measuring instruments (tape measure, squares, plumb lines);
  • installation tools (drill-screwdriver, jigsaw and hammer drill);
  • processing tools (painting tools, spatulas, sander).

From materials for creating a wall with your own hands, you can use ordinary wooden beams or replace them with a metal profile for mounting finishing panels. You will also need:

  • Several well-crafted beams for mounting shelves;
  • Several planks of different sizes and trims for the decor of the cabinet doors;
  • Do not forget about accessories and component parts, without which nothing will work.

Important! It is also worth taking care of the wiring in advance. Before installing furniture, think about where the lights and sockets will be.

Assembling the case

Each element of the wall with your own hands is a structure assembled together. It is based on a body or frame consisting of an upper and lower frame. They are pulled together by longitudinal stiffeners, on which the corners of the furniture fall:

  • First, build a frame based on your individual dimensions.
  • Add supports to the box you made. This is how you can achieve stability and reliability of the structure, which will serve you for a long period.
  • Use screws and glue to fasten the frame elements together. Also, during the work, you can use metal corners.
  • At this stage, add more top rails, which act as an additional fastening, as well as a design solution.
  • Next, using nails and glue, secure the plywood back wall.

Important! These works in the process of installing the wall in the living room with your own hands are best done in a room on the floor. So, after completing the assembly of the frame, you will only have to raise the structure, move it closer to the wall.

  • If you are making a wall slide with your own hands, then at the next stage, install the shelves in the location you need.

Important! If your furniture implies the presence of cabinets, shelving, then installation time will take more. After all, each element must be assembled and correctly entered into the overall concept.

Wall mounting

When all parts of the wall are prepared with their own hands, it will not be difficult to assemble it. The stages of assembly may differ, depending on the design of the wall, therefore, for clarity, we will describe this process step by step.

  1. We fasten and check all previously unsecured fittings.
  2. We attach the guides to the boxes, clearly observing all the dimensions indicated in the drawing.
  3. We carry out electrical communications for LED lighting.
  4. We put all the cabinets on the floor, install the shelves on the mountings.
  5. We hang the cabinet doors.
  6. We put the cabinets in a vertical position, set them in place.
  7. We install additional elements on them, only then insert the drawers.

Mini-wall installation

In modern living rooms, space is the most valuable thing. The most suitable option in this case would be a mini-wall, which will help create a feeling of lightness, freedom, at the same time, it will be quite roomy.

Asking the question of how to make a mini-wall in the living room yourself, first of all, you need to decide what you need it for and what will be included in its package:

  • TV set. In such a wall, a chest of drawers or a TV stand is an obligatory central element. As a rule, such a mini-version is complemented by a wardrobe, a rack, a shelf for books or for various decorative elements. On the contrary, they usually have a sofa - for a convenient, comfortable viewing of programs.
  • Do-it-yourself slide wall in a mini-version includes a place for storing dishes, open shelves, a chest of drawers with drawers. Often this kit has a built-in bar.

Important! This wall option will look great both in the kitchen - all the necessary utensils will be at hand, and in the living room, where you can demonstrate to all guests a collection of antique or especially expensive dishes.

  • Mini corner walls are usually installed in bedrooms. The basis of this set is a wardrobe, roomy and deep, where clothes and linen are stored. Complement the composition with a TV cabinet, shelving, with glass doors on top and drawers on the bottom.
  • If a wardrobe is built into the mini-version, then it also plays a major role in the composition, doubly saves space, due to the movement of the doors not towards itself, but to the sides - along the guides. Usually such furniture sets are complemented by open shelves on the sides, on which either books or various decorative elements look great. The cabinet doors are equipped with mirrors, and the interior space is fully equipped at the request of the owners. There can be both shelves, rails for hangers or drawers.
  • Mini-walls with a computer desk most often find their place in an office or a nursery. A wardrobe for clothes and linen in this design is mandatory, as well as a place for working at a computer, to which a chair can be pulled.
  • Mini-walls, the main parts of which are hinged, will ideally fit into a modern-style living room. There is nothing superfluous here - only clear, strict lines in a color scheme, which most often includes two contrasting shades.

As you can see, the compact version of the wall with your own hands differs from the usual one only in size. Therefore, the assembly of this type of furniture does not have any special differences.

The furniture wall for the living room does not go out of fashion - the universal format for the living room, invented in the middle of the last century, remains relevant, only materials and design ideas change. The name “storage system” applies to the furniture wall, which is used by one very famous furniture manufacturer.

The idea of a universal set or a single facade of living room furniture that combines several functions and adds additional convenience to the interior is a modern solution to which stylistic additions are applicable. The furniture wall for the living room performs several functions, it is designed for storing things, giving the atmosphere a style, the possibility of a kind of home exhibition of interesting objects.

The task of organizing the space, which was originally set when developing the idea of the wall, is completely solved by combining functions in one set or object. New design solutions and materials made it possible to expand the capabilities of the wall, create new constructive and layout solutions, and adapt this complex as much as possible to the interior and furnishings of a living room of any size.

Varieties of furniture walls - classic and modular layout

According to the layout, furniture walls for the living room can be divided into two main categories - classic cabinet solutions and more modern modular ones. The difference lies in the ability to reformat the modular complex - with the division into blocks, the wall becomes precisely a complex, a set of functionally and aesthetically related objects.

Classic furniture walls

Classic furniture wall - after assembly on site, it is a single piece of furniture, in which the integrity of the structure does not allow moving or combining blocks. This is not a limitation - the classic solution assumes the unity of style and composition, the ability to embed the wall into a conservative interior.

The predecessor of this type of walls - the classic display cabinet with glazed doors, has grown in width and height, giving designers the idea of using an extra size to expand functionality. The severity of lines and ease of use have passed from the classic style to the wall. The classic loves space, in addition, the non-separable layout requires the placement of a large room, where you do not have to calculate the place to install the wall. The task is facilitated by the availability of several standard sizes in width, depth and height.

Small classic wall models can be installed in a small-sized city apartment, almost completely using one wall of the room.

Modular wall

The modular layout of the living room wall appeared almost simultaneously with the classic one. She opened up all the possibilities of the new format of cabinet furniture thanks to movable blocks, each of which is a separate item. In some developments, the end parts of the blocks are fully finished so that the object becomes independent in all respects.

The block-modular wall solution for the living room has a number of advantages for modern living:

  • the possibility of arbitrary arrangement of modules relative to each other;
  • removal of stylistic restrictions - modular walls, as a rule, have a completely modern appearance, adopt elements of high-tech and minimalism style, which are not binding in relation to a certain direction;
  • no restrictions on the choice in size - a block wall can be selected for a room of any size, it all depends on the number of finished elements;
  • maximum functionality - each module can be used in combination with others or almost independently, add-ons, modern accessories are built into the item.

If we talk about a pronounced modern approach to the situation, then it is a modular solution that seems to be a priority for acquiring a wall in a living room. It does not limit your choices in size, shape, layout, materials and stylistic features.

Additional types of walls

There are at least three options for wall placement.

Frontal solution- all modules or a classic wall is lined up along one wall, covering it completely or partially, as a rule, by at least two-thirds. Corner installation - in the kits for such placement, it is possible to occupy two walls with wall parts. Options are possible, depending on the size of the room and the design of the blocks.

Hanging wall for the living room - some of the modules can be fixed on the walls of the support on the floor of the room. The restrictions apply only to the weight of each item and the structural strength of the walls. It is possible to make the wall completely suspended, but this will limit its size and functionality.

Wall-mounted placement as a rule, it is not associated with the need to fasten objects to the wall. It depends on the design, the location of the center of gravity, the ratio of the area of the base of the wall and the area of its upper part.

Choosing the wall material for the living room

Almost a decisive role in choosing a wall for the living room is played by the main material of the body and the facade. Its properties determine the strength of the structure, layout possibilities, range of design and stylistic solutions. Despite the richness of choice, a small assortment of basic cabinet and finishing materials remains relevant in the furniture business.

Body material

The wall for the living room is a rather large product, so the material of the case is of great importance as a power part of the structure. In some products of the classic layout, there may be additional, hidden elements of the frame reinforcement.

Of the materials used in the assembly of furniture walls, the most widespread are wood in the array, MDF, chipboard and laminated chipboard. Separate, exclusive storage systems can be glass on an aluminum frame, but this is not typical, all developments of such a plan are individual and very expensive.

The most prestigious of body materials remains wood- the array has high strength, does not require reinforcement with a frame, and the most expensive varieties allow not using external finishing, they are simply tinted and treated with penetrating and protective compounds. Wood limits the possibilities in choosing a shape - this is a strict classic, in which it is difficult to find any delights, except for panel elements on the doors. If the wall is made on a wooden frame with slab materials, the situation changes - the possibilities of finishing the facade expand.

MDF board- the second after wood in terms of strength and quality. In the manufacture of such a panel, the technology of extrusion gluing of layers is used, which gives the product high strength. It can be given complex cut shapes. The material is durable, strong, lightweight, but requires external finishing, and in some cases reinforcement with a frame. It was the MDF board that became the basis for most modular solutions, since the wall from it can be assembled and disassembled two or three times. The material combines well with elements of metal, glass, solid wood, and reduces the total weight of the module.

Chipboard and laminated chipboard- the most economical solutions. In the manufacture of modern boards, formaldehyde is not used, so it has become safe and not "odorous", but the structure of pressed sawdust and shavings is not designed for heavy loads. The material should be protected from moisture by coatings, protected from heavy loads - over time, the plate may begin to crumble at the attachment points of the fittings. Walls made of chipboard and chipboard confidently stand for years in their place, but are sensitive to transportation and disassembly.

The difference between chipboard and laminated chipboard is the presence of a laminated board covering, which has not only a protective, but also an aesthetic function. This is a good selection of colors and textures. In the manufacture of large modules or classic walls, a combination of materials is used, and in most products the manufacturer indicates the main, prevailing material of the case with the type of finish.

Choosing the facade material

The material of the facade of the wall is the actual material of the body, on which the finishing and protective coatings are applied. The most common options are natural veneer, PVC veneer imitation film, designer film coatings with a pattern and texture, laminate. Recently, acrylic coatings of bright colors that have passed from kitchen furniture have spread, which fit well into modern interiors, especially high-tech style.

The walls, classic in appearance, are finished with veneer of natural wood species, and only a specialist can distinguish such a surface from an array upon close examination. Film imitation of PVC veneer gives good protection of chipboard from moisture, and chipboard can be pasted over with PVC coatings if the idea comes to change the style of the interior and the color of the wall.

It is extremely difficult to talk about the decisive advantage of any one material, each of them is good in its place and in a certain combination with other elements of furniture.

Furniture walls and their features

Features of furniture walls for a living room are, as a rule, a set of additions and specific modules that are included in the product.

With or without space for TV

The wall in the living room assumes the ability to watch TV programs - therefore, in some products, a place or block is provided for installing a TV. When choosing, you should pay attention to the block size, the ability to install a TV of different screen sizes and body depths, options with the placement of speakers.

With a workplace

For apartments with small dimensions, a wall with a workplace is convenient - this is a module with a folding or pull-out table, a recess for a computer, devices for books and documents. The choice is always individual, manufacturers offer various layout options.

The presence of a chest of drawers

A chest of drawers is an element of a classic living room that can complement a furniture wall. The built-in dresser module can be lower in height, it is placed in the middle of the set to create a symmetrical composition.

With mirror

A mirror in the wall is considered optional but desirable. It can be built into doors from the outside or inside, installed as a back wall of a display part or a module. The mirror can be integrated into almost any wall model, it is enough to choose the right installation location and equip it with reliable fasteners.

Furniture walls can be seen in many apartments, houses and cottages. They are rightfully very popular among other pieces of furniture. The reason for this is that it can accommodate a fairly large number of a wide variety of household items, this is its advantage over other pieces of furniture ( wardrobes, bedside tables, etc.). Walls are simply indispensable for small rooms, living rooms, where it is necessary to arrange furniture in a compact and optimally functional way so that it does not interfere, and everything you need can be placed in it. Such walls represent a certain set of furniture, which may include various cabinets, chests of drawers, shelves, showcases, shelving, etc.

Walls Is a type of furniture that is characterized by such features as multifunctionality and versatility. The very name "wall" comes from the fact that all the furniture included in its set is usually placed along the wall. The shape of the furniture walls are corner, straight or U-shaped.

A wide variety of wall models for the living room allows you to conveniently integrate them into the most various interiors : the walls can be more closed or open, can be compactly placed in the corner or occupy the entire wall.

Let's describe one of the many designs walls for the living room which can be used and like TV wall, LCD panels, etc. Taking the presented drawings of the furniture wall as a basis, home craftsmen will be able, relying on our advice, to design and manufacture almost any model of the furniture wall do it yourself .

Let us remind you right away that you should not blindly copy diagrams and drawings, but you should use them as a basis and methodological guide for designing your model, for your specific dimensions and conditions. Here we can describe only general, characteristic moments associated with the nuances of designing and making a wall for the living room with our own hands.

Wall for the living room, under the TV.

In the sketch, the wall in the living room for the TV, which will be considered in this article.

For a detailed acquaintance with the project, download the file 3D models this wall for the PRO100 program. According to this model, the diagrams and descriptions presented below were compiled.

Since it is not possible to place the entire description on one page, the article is divided into 2 pages. Here, on the first page, there is a general description of the project, the dimensions of the furniture wall and a description of the base, lower part of the wall. On the second page the upper part of the wall.

  1. .

Living room wall, dimensions. A common part.

The wall is straight, of two tiers: the lower one - the base one and the upper one.

  • Length of the set = 3 lm
  • Total height = 2 m.
  • Overall depth = 460 mm. + protruding parts of the handles.

The wall consists of 8 parts: Top - 4 cupboards and two shelves, bottom - two composite cabinets with drawers. Bottom part - the base is installed directly on the floor, the upper part is fixed to the wall. The cabinets are hung with the help of so-called "cabinet" awnings, the shelves are attached with the help of hidden mensolder holders.

Design.

Living room wall design symmetrical. In the lower part, a niche for DVD equipment with holes for cables, drawers for storage and compartments closed by doors are provided. In the upper part, there are two wall cabinets made of 4 mm transparent glass. Two other lockers with blank doors. Each cabinet has two shelves that divide it into 3 parts. The color scheme is as follows - the body of the wall is made of laminated chipboard in the color "Milky Oak", the front details are made of laminated chipboard in the color "Wenge Oak". Handles are railing, chrome-plated in two standard sizes. Longer handles are installed horizontally on the drawers and vertically on the upper cabinets, those that are shorter on the outer doors of the lower tier.

Bottom cover- the base is made of two layers of furniture board with a thickness of 16 mm, connected with self-tapping screws in a double thickness, the so-called. "32" thickness. Its common end is rolled up wide (40 mm.) ABS edge, 2 mm thick. the opposite color. Hinged shelves are made according to the same principle.

All other furniture parts, except, are faced with the usual 0.45 mm thick ABS edging. matching in color with the material of the parts. The back walls of the cabinets and the bottoms of the drawers are made of laminated furniture fiberboard, white.

The overhang of the cover over the body from the back is made 70 mm. It is convenient for dense substitution of the bottom against the wall and for placing various wires and cables. 70 mm. is a size that can easily accommodate a dummy cable for passing the antenna and network cable to a TV or LCD panel.

Living room wall, diagram, side view.

The lower part of the furniture wall, base. Schemes.

  1. The lower, base part of the wall in the living room. The dimensions of the furniture wall.
  2. The upper part of the furniture wall. Showcases and shelves .

Since the length of the wall is 3 m (3000 mm), and the overwhelming amount of furniture material, chipboard, is supplied in sheets with a maximum length of 2750 mm, there is a need for a composite structure. Such a rarity as sheets of laminated chipboard with a format of 3600 mm are not very common and therefore not available to everyone, so we will focus on the format of 2750 mm. Hence, the base is in two parts, which are connected to each other through the opposing sidewalls using intersection ties.

Although the wall is symmetrical, it would be inconvenient to do the joining of the parts along the line of symmetry, so the design is like this. The right module additionally includes a niche for DVD equipment, divided by a rigid shelf. The niche has openings for the passage of wires and cables, which are closed with a special plug for wires .

The holes are cut with a diameter of 60 mm. with the help of a thin file, for non-straight cuts or corresponding diameter. (see the corresponding topics on the forum, highlighted with links)

To dock the parts through the opposing sidewalls, it is necessary to design the structure so that the paired sidewalls could not eventually break the overall symmetry. To do this, one side panel must be hidden in the case of one of the modules. It is very simple to implement, you need to overlap facades of one of the modules, both connecting sides. See the sketch for how this is done.

From the picture above, you can see that the left module is 1232 mm long, the right one is 1764 mm. Total body length = 2996 mm. Bottom cover = 3000 mm., 2 mm each. we leave from each body the sides to the overhang of the lid.

Each module consists of a bottom on which the sidewalls are attached. The sides are interconnected by ties, through the same ties the cover is attached to the body. For the convenience of fastening the opposite links, it is advisable to separate them from each other. In this example, this is done like this:

There is one tie above the boxes, but slightly wider than the neighboring ones, and it is recessed from the face so that the opposite ties do not interfere with its fastening. The lower right module, from the side of the niche for the equipment, the upper horizontal connections are not provided, its connecting role is played by the shelf. The cover is fastened in this area using minifixes... The left module of the base of the furniture wall is attached to the same sidewall.

The body of the bottom of the wall stands on a plinth connected in the form of a frame. This type of base is called that. Frame bezels connected with dowels so that no fasteners protrude onto the front side. The rest of the strips are connected to regular confirmation ... Such a frame is attached to the bottom using furniture mounting corners. In the part of the base where the boxes are located, it is reasonable to attach the frame to the confirmations directly through the bottom, because the confirmation hats will be hidden under drawers .

Drawers are pull-out.

This wall model has 4 wide drawers for storage. The box body is made made of laminated board, the same color as the body of the wall. Drawer bottom - laminated fiberboard white. The facades are attached to the box body with 4x30 mm self-tapping screws. and are finally fixed when installing furniture handles, the long screws of which go through the facade and the front wall of the drawer body.

Detailing of the wall for the living room.

All parts of the body of the wall (except for the facades) are pasted over with an ABS edge with a thickness of 0.45 mm, therefore, when calculating the parts, its thickness was not taken into account. The thickness of the edge was taken into account only on facades, where 1 mm was previously subtracted in the dimension. from each size. The details of the top of the pedestals and rigid shelves are pasted over with a wide (40 mm) ABS edge 2 mm thick, but on these details this edge thickness does not play a role, therefore, it is also not taken into account.

The first dimension in detail is the texture size of the part, the second is cross.
