But the games feel very similar. An oppressive atmosphere of hopelessness and loneliness literally permeates both projects, which is why the characters evoke similar human empathy, just like the projects themselves.

The mechanics seem to be simple. There is a spaceship, and there is the crew of this ship, which we control. Our goal is to fly from one point to another, while the entire journey will take 30 minutes of real time. That's all.

During these half an hour, dozens of events will really happen to you, in which the further fate of the entire expedition will depend on your decisions. You can detect an alien life form, get into a fight, get into someone's magnetic field, and a host of other situations. Something is taken directly from the mass Sci-fi culture, something was invented by the developers themselves, but it is not possible to fly even in half of the cases. But situations where you managed to reach the finish line with a half-leaky ship, almost without fuel and on one half-dead engine - a dime a dozen.

If the heroes of This war of mine had forgotten their conscience, Darkest Dungeon would have turned out.

Here, too, there is a dilapidated state where terrible things happen. Here, too, there are adventurers and adventurers. Here, too, developed micromanagement. The only difference is that you are on the side of aggression in Darkest Dungeon.

Sunless Sea strikes with a crazy kaleidoscope of situations that are ready to fall on you at any moment. A variety of quests, random events, fights, escapes, ship races and much more - all this in the terrible world of Howard Lovecraft.

This war of mine..one of the few games where your choice is the only and final. A game that puts you in front of a difficult choice: "them or us." And sometimes everything happens so fast that you don’t even have time to understand how it happened, why during a seemingly ordinary trip to someone else’s house, you find yourself in a situation with three corpses and a bloody ax in your hands. And then you come to the shelter, a girl runs to meet you and asks how your sortie went, and you simply answer that you don’t want to talk about it ...
The game definitely deserves the time and effort spent on it. She will make you make difficult choices, goad you into robbing some old couple, plant pitiful notes on you, and show you how the characters you force to do things react to YOUR actions. But it is definitely worth spending at least one evening on it.

As soon as the choice has been made, all three appear in a kind of almost destroyed house, from where numerous problems have to be solved. The chosen people are not soldiers, they are not great masters of survival. Among the chosen ones will not be a tough guy who put on sunglasses, and for every explosion he turns his back. These are the most ordinary people who have the most banal professions in the form of a loader, cook, journalist, teacher, and so on. And these people need not only to take care of surviving the entire war, they need to help all those who are actively losing their lives in it.

Game process
The gameplay itself is, as it were, divided into 2 parts: day / night. During the day, the user will manage three at once. In this case, at this time of day, you will have to do everything to develop your modest refuge, which requires change. So, for example, you will have to clean the rubble, close up windows, build furniture, and so on. And as soon as darkness falls, one of the three characters will have to make an incredibly dangerous sortie in order to replenish their supplies. In this case, the remaining 2 characters either go to bed or remain on the well-known "string".

As soon as the player is outside at night, he will immediately realize that the victims were not only the above 3 heroes, who were chosen at the very beginning of the game. It can be seen how various marauders and bandits are actively ruining people, depriving them of literally everything. And these are just civilians, they are also trying to survive. Naturally, at night you should not count on the fact that looting cannot happen to the character. You will have to do everything in order to move your legs.

Indeed, as soon as the player learns about the possibility of committing a robbery, for example, he will immediately be tempted and try to do it. Unfortunately, 3 characters, with the help of which the control takes place, have their own certain level of character. In this case, their conscience will torment them if one of them, for example, quickly and easily takes away something from a person who was mocked by marauders. So what? Well, let! Let the conscience torment, but ... As soon as the character returns home, depression may begin to torment him. Unfortunately, the outcome may not be very good. So, for example, any of the characters can commit suicide. We will have to constantly incline this stick of conscience first in one direction, then in the other.

What is special about This War of Mine?
First of all, it should be noted that in the process, the player seems to be immersed in a certain world, where, on the one hand, he is told that he needs to survive, and on the other hand, it is necessary to take care of other people. The game seems to press, but a little. The player gets into a real harsh life, it will have to actively fight.

The game is notable for the fact that it presents the war not as a fun campaign against inflatable dummy enemies led to the slaughter by Oscar-winning Kevin Spacey, but shows the most unattractive, but naturalistic sides of the war.

At each attempt, the characters are randomly generated, each has its own biography, told in the first person, its own character and special skills. You will have to carefully monitor the emotional mood of the wards, almost as in The Sims. They may suffer from the need to steal food from their neighbors or be glad that they gave the last medicine to ragged children who knock on their door and, which can be very touching, try to cheer themselves up aloud.
The lack of amenities also affects mood in different ways. Not enough cigarettes for a smoker? With nostalgia, he will remember the pre-war times and be glad that he is getting rid of a negative habit, only in moments of extreme stress remembering the cherished cigarette. Does the character like to drink? Without alcohol it will be hard for him. But at the same time, you need to choose what is more important for you - to improve the mood of the character or to exchange a scarce product for something important for survival. By the way, the game has a lot of text.

The gameplay is divided into two parts: a day when you can be visited by a greedy merchant or someone else less pleasant, when you control the characters, use the tools, and equip the shelter, and the night before which you need to plan the behavior of the characters.

A perilous night outing starts at 9.00 pm (the day ends at 8 p.m.). It is necessary to distribute the heroes: someone is resting, someone is guarding, someone is looting in the occupied settlement. You need to guide the heroes thoughtfully, based on the characteristics of the characters. A weak, hungry runner is unlikely to cope with an attack on marauders in the city center, but it is useful to search the building on the outskirts. He will collect fewer resources, but will be exposed to less risk. It is worth not only carefully choosing the resources that you will take with you, but also carefully monitoring the time to get home by 5 o'clock in the morning, and also follow the sounds that are displayed in the form of circles scattering from the character.

Tip: a character armed with a knife will easily deal with any enemy if he sneaks up from behind.

The characters often share their thoughts, rumors, another way to find out about what is happening in the outside world is through radio news channels and special places in buildings. Sometimes it turns out to find out about previous events or about hidden things.

A word of advice - you can use the time left after exploring the building to put everything you got into one pile of garbage near the entrance, and come back for them sometimes, since things will not be lost until the next visit to the location. This will come in handy in places where enemies can accidentally appear, for example, at a dangerous sniper interchange.
The second piece of advice is that you can sleep during the day, but if there is no one to guard the supplies, then the tired look of the characters alone will not do.

Fortunately, This War of Mine: The Little Ones has kept the familiar mechanics, the principle of the game. That is, you have a group of survivors hiding in a partially destroyed building. During the day, they can work around the house, sleep, cook food, eat, heal, cooperate with the merchant who came to them, and repair the building. At night, things get much more interesting. Choose one of the characters to send to the street, and put the rest to sleep, leave to guard (no one canceled the raids of marauders). The selected character takes the tools, the weapons you give him go to find useful items - from building materials, food to weapons, medicines. He can fight hand-to-hand, beat the enemy with a knife, an ax from an ambush, shoot in open combat. Of course, it is not a fact that he will return home with rich booty - he may return injured, with an empty backpack, not even return at all.

Innovations

Innovations are frankly not encouraging. There are two new men (Henrik, Kristo), a few additional locations (but less than we would like) and, of course, four children. There's just no joy in it. They behave completely unrealistic - they play all day long, draw on the walls, mostly just get in the way. They are not able not only to protect the house, to go for prey (okay, let's write it off for age), but also to help with the simplest housework. Even throwing firewood into the stove is beyond their power. At the same time, they cannot die - the developers decided not to stoop to such cruelty. Maybe this is justified, but it greatly violates the concept of the game, designed to clearly show that war is hell.
