This will require a trip to the hardware store, which can be foreign territory for some cake decorators, but it's well worth it. The ability to create the jewelry of your dreams, whether they are unique or unique, is worth looking for materials.

While you can shape your cutters as simply or as intricately as you'd like, choose a shape that's recognizable as a silhouette. Let's say you want to make a silhouette of a unicorn.

While this unicorn is adorable, it just won't work as a cookie cutter or fondant cutter shape. However, one of them.

  1. Draw a sketch of the desired shape on paper. No need to use too complex bends to make it easier to make a shape.
  2. Form an aluminum strip around the drawing according to the sketch. The tape must be bent using any tool at hand - a bottle, a rectangular and round glass, a pipe or a rolling pin.
  3. When the desired shape is obtained, it is necessary to leave a few centimeters for fixing, and cut off the remaining piece.
  4. The ends should be glued with superglue, secured on top with clothespins and left to dry completely.

Here we have a solid mold for baking.

You can also just make recognizable shapes that you don't have on hand. Say, for example, you're having trouble finding a heart cutter in the exact size you need? This is a great opportunity to make the cutter in the perfect size. Study online the silhouettes of what you would like to do - there are many free images you can print. Or, choose a shape and trace its silhouette.

Flexible aluminum or copper strips

There are some specific materials that you will need to create cookie cutters. Although they are listed below, the metal strips and adhesive may require a little more explanation. You'll need flexible metal that can be manipulated, but it will generally stay on once you've created the desired shape. Both aluminum and copper strips will do the job and safe products can be found. It's important that you check the materials - if the metal contains lead, it's not something you want to come into contact with your food.

Molds from an old tin can

Thinking about what to make cookie cutters with your own hands, you can check if you have an unnecessary can at home? If you are lucky, then you still need to take metal scissors and superglue for work.

And making forms out of these materials is as easy as shelling pears:

  1. At the can, cut off the top and bottom, and cut the wall lengthwise with scissors.
  2. Cut the resulting tin rectangle into strips 2-3 cm thick.
  3. From these strips, make the necessary shapes, for example, diamonds, hearts, houses, little men, flowers or sponges.
  4. Glue the ends of the molds with superglue, and if they are too sharp, then go through them with a file.

Important! With the help of the molds obtained, it is very easy to cut out cookies from sugar or shortcrust pastry, but keep in mind that they quickly become unusable.

Silicone cookie molds

The copper tape used in the photos worked great, but be aware that if your cookies or cutouts are over ¼" thick, the perforations can affect how clean the shape is cut. This isn't a problem for most recipes, but it's important to keep in mind.

In terms of thickness, find metal about 1 inch thick. If it is too thin, the cutter will be difficult to handle and may not clean it unless you leave fingerprints. Can't find stripes? Some stores have the aluminum or copper sheets you want. Or cut strips from old aluminum trays, like the ones you use for lasagna.

simple foil cookie cutters

If you urgently need to bake a lot of cookies, but at the same time you want to give them a special shape, then you can use ordinary foil and a glass with a round or square bottom.

Follow this pattern:

  1. Cut the foil into small squares.
  2. Wrap a square of foil around the bottom of the glass, iron it well to get the desired shape.
  3. It remains only to place the resulting blanks on the baking sheet.

How to make molds from a plastic bottle?

Perhaps many will be surprised, but you can even make cookie cutters with your own hands from plastic bottles.

To make sure you can seal the finished cookie cutter, you will need glue. Plus, it's easy to use: all you have to do is knead it with your fingers and then apply it to the surfaces you'd like to stick to, such as putty.

Choose your image. Using your string, follow the pattern of the image. After you have traced the image with the string, add about 1 ½ and cut the string from the spool. Now you have cleverly measured how much metal you need.

Align the string with the metal and cut as much as you need using tool shears or scissors that cut metal easily.

Important! You can use finished products to work not only with dough, but also with mastic.

They have undeniable advantages:

  1. We get it for free, the process of their manufacture takes only a few minutes.
  2. The quality of the forms and the features of their application will depend on the material chosen.
  3. You get the necessary fixture and dispose of the bottle.
  4. These molds are made of food-grade plastic, so they are completely safe and harmless.
  5. Making them yourself is pretty easy.

To get them, you need to draw sketches of future forms on paper, then cut the bottle, attach them to the base, cut them clearly along the contour. At the end, you will need to fix their ends with a bracket.

Now it's time to get a craft and manipulate the metal into the shape you want. For rounded areas, this is easy enough to do by hand by simply bending the metal with your fingers. For sharp corners or precise angles, use needle nose pliers to ensure more precise corners.

After you've finished the image, make small manual adjustments. You don't need to have a copy of a copy - do it yourself! Lightly sand the sections of the cutter that will be attached. This will help the glue do its job. Pinch the piece and knead with your fingers until it is uniform in color. Apply to the place that is respected and join them together. Pick out any extra bits that stick out along the sides. Use a clip or clothespin to hold the cutter together until the glue dries.

As we can see from the above tutorials, you can make DIY cookie cutters from plastic bottles, foil, metal, and even old tin cans. Thus, you will not only get the elements you need for baking, but also use items that have been lying around for a long time on the shelves, and you will certainly please your loved ones with delicious original cookies of an unusual shape.

Depending on the type of metal you are using, your cutter may deteriorate or lose its shape after use; just bend into place as needed. Keep your reference image handy or save the file to your computer so you can recreate the cutter if needed or desired.

Tin molds for cutting cookies

Housewives often use tin can cutters to cut perfectly identical cookies. With their help, you will get very even and beautiful baking blanks. To practice at home, take a simple open jar. A simple method, due to the affordable cost, became popular and allowed housewives to make curly cookies: triangles, circles, squares.

A baking dish is easy to make with your own hands from improvised means that can be found in any home. The main material for the production of this product can be a tin bottle for drinks or an ordinary tin can. Using sharp metal scissors, cut off the bottom and top of an empty tin bottle.

The resulting cylinder must be turned into a flat tin sheet and for this you need to cut it along the entire surface. This blank is placed on any hard surface and, using a special knife and a metal ruler, is cut into identical strips, 1.5–2.5 cm wide.

With the help of pliers or pliers, each tin strip is given the desired shape. The perimeter is closed by connecting the ends of the strip to each other. For the convenience of manufacturing various molds, it is recommended to first draw their patterns on a piece of paper. Such samples can not only be invented, but also found on the Internet.

Before you make a baking dish, you need to decide on its size. If you plan to make small cookies, one tin strip will be enough to make the mold. Otherwise, two or more tin blanks can be used for this purpose, connecting their ends into a “lock”.

A do-it-yourself baking dish is ready, but it is imperfect and has a number of significant drawbacks. As practice shows, it is not at all easy to extract the dough from such a workpiece, especially if it is small. In this case, a fork or any other similar object is often used to push the dough.

This takes not only precious time, but can also deform the baked product. A do-it-yourself baking dish will become more perfect if you make a special pusher for it. To do this, you can use such improvised means as large paper clips and an awl.

From two large paper clips it is necessary to make a pusher rod and for this they should be straightened and connected to each other. For strength, one tin strip is folded in half or three times so that it freely passes inside the molds made for baking. With the help of an awl or an ordinary nail, two holes are made in the middle of this design for connection with a special stock of paper clips.

The so-called pusher is mounted on a baking dish. When pressed, the rolled dough will lift the pusher up, and when the pusher is pressed from above, the extruded dough will freely separate from the mold. After thoroughly washing the finished structure with a sponge and dishwashing detergent, you can start cutting out the rolled out dough. However, so that it does not stick to the molds, experienced chefs recommend lightly dusting it with flour.

We will need:
- tin of cheese or pâté
-ruler
- pencil
-knife
-scissors
-pliers
- thread
-paper

First, we come up with a shape, draw sketches. As I said above, for the first time it is better to take a simpler form. Perhaps the key will be difficult for someone. Then we cut out our shape from paper. By the way, this is not necessary at all, you can just leave the drawing on paper, but it was more convenient for me :).

Then we take a thread and a marker. And we draw the outline of our shape with a thread, marking with a marker (points) all the fold points on the thread. We do this in order to make it easier to repeat the form.

And now we take our tin can. I have this container from under Camembert. It is important that the walls are fairly thin and not too hard.
1) With a large sharp knife, make an incision at the upper solid rim of the can.
2) We insert the scissors into the hole formed and begin to carefully cut along the border line. I used ordinary scissors, they perfectly and easily cope with thin metal.
3) We make a transverse incision to the base of the jar.
4) And now we cut along the bottom line.
5) So we cut out a not too flat strip of metal.
6) With the help of a ruler and a pencil, we draw an uneven edge of our strip, giving it the appearance of a rectangle with smooth edges.
7) With the same scissors, cut along the line and uneven edges.
8) And now we cut the strip into two parts along. We need a strip of metal about 1.5 cm wide.

Now we can start our form. In this case, the key :)
1) Since the top of the key shape is rounded, we need to find an object with a suitable diameter. It can be a pen or a marker. I have a test tube with sparkles)) We wrap our strip of metal around this object and press it with our fingers to make a semicircle.
2) Then with a pencil we transfer all the marks from the thread to the strip of metal. So we outlined all the fold points.
3),4),5) Now, using a ruler and a marker / pen / of any object of a suitable diameter, we begin to gently bend the desired shape. It is very important to apply the ruler to the strip at a right angle so that the shape comes out even. So, we apply the ruler to the point and bend directly along the ruler. Here you can and should help yourself with pliers and fingers to achieve the desired contour.
6) Well, the key is almost ready, it remains to close the ends.

Shortbread cookies are prepared quickly and easily. It is quite suitable for inexperienced housewives. Success depends on the quality of the oil, as well as the consistency of the dough - the dough must be plastic.

And yet, shortbread cookies can be made beautiful if you give it a shape: cut it with a knife, a glass or using special molds, or scroll the dough through a meat grinder, as our grandmothers often did.

In addition, shortbread cookies can be glazed, sprinkled with colored sugar or nuts on top, painted with special pencils with food coloring and turned into a work of art.

Recently I found a home-made mold in my pantry - a “heart” for cutting shortbread cookies, my mother also made it, and remembered how my nieces on Valentine's Day, because they didn’t buy a mold, it wasn’t on sale, they were engaged in handmade, cut out hearts from dough with a knife according to a paper pattern. They all turned out well, only longer than with the form.

Mom's form

And our grandmothers made them themselves from cans of condensed milk, for example.

I decided to try it myself. I am a thrifty person and I don’t throw away small cans of olives, condensed milk, coffee, or rather, I don’t throw everything away. They can be useful for baking small cakes.

So, I found 5 small tin cans: two for 350 g from olives, one for 450 g and two cans for 100 gram coffee.

First I made a shape for cutting out a heart:

1. I have a good key for opening canned food. It is important that the edges remain even, otherwise you can cut yourself accidentally. Removed the bottom with a key.

2. With pliers I walked along the contour of the top, where the lid was, and pressed down the rim, squeezed just in case, so as not to accidentally scratch or cut myself.

3. I bent the resulting pipe with my hands (you can press it on the table), first I made a triangle with rounded corners.

I marked the middle, the place where the concave part will be, and there I made a fold with pliers and then gave it the shape of a heart.

And I made the lower tip of the heart sharper. Heart shape to taste - whatever you like.

Similarly, from the rest of the cans, she made what came to mind: a triangle, a triangular asterisk, a shapeless asterisk and a cat's head.

I tried the forms in action:

baked cookies, and everything cut out beautifully. Decorated with icing, etc. The result is in the photo above

Such a high shape has an advantage - it is more convenient to cut out cookies, because it is more convenient to press - not with your fingers, as is the case with small molds, but with your whole palm.

Of course, these are molds for lovers of large cookies, if anyone likes small cookies, then they are great.

If you choose cans, then you should pay attention to the thickness of the tin, it is clear that the one that is thinner is more suitable for crafts. I noticed that now green peas are in jars made of thicker tin. Or it just happens to me all the time.

Also, note that the bottom of the olive jars is slightly barrel-shaped, it is clear that the shape is best done on top of the jar.

Also, safety tips.

1.Wash gently so as not to cut yourself

2. If you notice that a notch has appeared after removing the cover, it is better to squeeze this place with pliers so that it is smooth.
3. It is possible to organize a husband for such work, to my surprise, I managed somehow easily and without him.

Forms from crystal wine glasses

You probably have crystal glasses or vases in your house, they are ideal for creating an interesting shape of cookies.

Forms for tartlets

The original idea is to use the cupcake pan upside down.

Straw molds

There is no straw mold in your house, don't worry, make your own from a couple of spoons. You will need 2 spoons per mold.

INVESTMENTS

Molds for cutting cookies from a can. Master Class.

SAFETY PRECAUTIONS: the edges of the tin can be very sharp, and there may also be burrs (if not cut strictly in a straight line), you need to be very careful. It is better to do all cutting and processing operations over a newspaper or white cloth, so that the fallen pieces of tin and sawdust can be immediately seen. A piece bounced off me, I searched for a long time, I didn’t find it, for that I found my husband’s heel. You need to cut tin with scissors for metal, you don’t need to spoil the usual ones.))

Of course, if I had a piece of suitable tin, then making molds would be much easier. But I don’t have it, so I got the tin from cans. To begin with, they ate several cans of condensed milk.)) They chose condensed milk tastier, thicker (for those who know - Rogachev plant), but it would be necessary to take another, Glubokskaya, liquid, because. tin in them turned out to be better. Yes, in order:

The cans were of two types, one type - shiny, tin-plated, slightly corrugated on both sides (as in the photo below). Others are shiny only on the outside, covered with a yellowish varnish on the inside, even, so they are better used for making molds, because. tinplate is thicker, and no need to tap with a hammer to level.

I decided not to test my new metal shears for strength, I cut off the lid and bottom with a can opener.

It turned out such a ring.

I cut it and straightened it into a strip. Trimmed the edges with metal scissors.

If you have a flat bank, then you can skip the next step.

If the jar is corrugated, then you need to put it on the board and walk on it with a hammer so that the tin becomes more even. It will no longer be like a mirror, and it is not necessary, that is enough.

From one jar I get three molds, i.e. the strip must be cut lengthwise into three parts. Then file each resulting strip to remove burrs and sharp edges and corners. Please take this seriously, I don't want anyone to get hurt.

Using a nail and a ruler, mark (with force to push through) a fold line at a distance of 0.5 cm from the edge in order to tuck the edge. This is necessary so that later it is more convenient to press with your hand, cutting out cookies.

Bend the edge along the basting with pliers. It is better to do it in two or three stages, first bend it to a smaller angle along the entire length, then to a larger one. Tap the edge with a hammer so that the edge is well aligned.

It turned out such a strip

And now the most pleasant! We draw the desired shape. Yes, what else matters! We need to take a wire of the same length as our strip of tin, and bend our figure out of it. You don’t have to go into too much detail, the main thing is to find out if our strip is enough to bend this mold.
I even have an extra ponytail.

Now we take the prepared strip of tin and with the help of round-nose pliers, pliers, thin-nose pliers we bend according to the drawing. Pay attention to the fact that the cutting edge of the future mold lies in the same plane. Attach the mold to the drawing with the cutting side, because. it is she who will then give your cookie shape.

It is convenient to make round details (like in a snowman) using different bottles, felt-tip pens and other round objects, as if winding tin around them. When you bend the completely desired mold, all that remains is to cut off the excess tin (leave an overlap of 0.5-1 cm for soldering).
Then ask your husband / brother / dad / friend to solder the edges. I soldered it myself, but for the first time in my life, so it didn’t turn out very neat.

The form is ready! Now you can knead the spicy dough, cut out cookies with cookie cutters, bake, decorate and hang on the Christmas tree. For example, yes. I have not yet made cookies with new molds, so I will show last year's one as an example.

And you can make salt dough and call the children, cut out figures with them, dry and color.

In the same way, you can make molds for cutting sugar fondant to decorate cakes.

5) So we cut out a not too flat strip of metal.
6) With the help of a ruler and a pencil, we draw an uneven edge of our strip, giving it the appearance of a rectangle with even edges.

Here you can and should help yourself with pliers and fingers to achieve the desired contour.
6) Well, the key is almost ready, it remains to close the ends.

In order to carefully connect the tails of the form, it is necessary to make a small even bend 2-3 mm wide on each so that they cling to each other. The picture below shows the principle. When the ends are bent, insert them into each other and press firmly with pliers. Everything, the form is ready!

And now run to bake beautiful cookies! :)) Of course, it’s better to decorate such a treat with icing, but I’m too lazy)) But by the new year I will definitely bake cookies according to all the rules - with icing and patterns :)

Making a cookie cutter with your own hands is not such a difficult thing. We need a sketch for a future mold and a regular tin can, the one that sells carbonated drinks, some "flexion-extension" exercises with a tin can, and you will be able to quickly stamp cookies of the most complex shape.

You will need:

  • empty soda can;
  • paper, pencil, eraser, or finished sketch printout;
  • ruler ;
  • scissors ;
  • a sharp knife, and preferably a paper knife (dummy);
  • pliers type tools, it would be nice to have a tool with rounded tips, like in my photo;
  1. Let's start by preparing a sketch. You can draw almost any shape, but it is better to avoid a large number of very small elements. For curd cookies with pumpkin seeds for Halloween, I prepared a mold in the form of a witch on a broomstick, with this example I will show the whole procedure. . Cut out the paper blank of the future mold.
  2. Now let's prepare our bank for work (it is better to use high banks). It must be pierced with a knife, try to do it as close to the bottom as possible. The torn edges around the hole prevent you from using a piece of tin to make a mold, so try to make the hole neat. Using scissors, cut off one bottom, then cut the jar lengthwise and cut off the second bottom.
  3. You will get a neat sheet of tin that can be straightened. This is what we will continue to work with.
  4. With the help of a ruler and a breadboard model, we align one of the edges of the tin sheet. If the future mold differs from a simple circle, heart, flower, etc., then one strip of tin may not be enough, which means that our mold will consist of several parts. Using a pencil, we mark the tin sheet into strips of about 2.5-3 cm. We cut it into separate strips along the ruler. Try to drive the knife evenly, then your mold will make a neat, clear cut.
  5. Let's start designing the form. Applying strips of tin to the paper blank, carefully make folds along the paper sketch office with your hands or with the help of tools. Don’t worry if you don’t get a full match, most likely the mold will come out a little more than a paper blank, perhaps you will simplify some elements as you work, but in general, try to stick to the layout.
  6. If one strip of tin was not enough for you, leaving 6-8 mm in the whip, continue to make a shape from the next strip. As a result, by putting all the parts together, you should get the intended model.
  7. Now we have to fasten the individual parts of the form together. My fastenings turned out to be rather narrow and it may not be very clearly visible in the photographs what clings to what. I will try to describe this process in order. Some of the joints fell on small folds, for example, on the nose of the witch, if you put the parts of the form together, you will see how they find each other at the junction.
  8. We take one of the parts of the workpiece in our hands, retreating from each edge of the strip by about 1/3 of the width of the mold, we make cuts deep into the tin sheet. The depth of the notch should be equal to the depth of the overlap. It’s good if you get the incisions a little at an angle, from wide to narrow.
Now we take the part that needs to be docked. From the edges of the mold to the center, parallel to the line with which this part of the mold ends, we make cuts. In length, they should be approximately equal to 1/3 of the width of the mold, and the indent to the notch should be equal to the depth of the overlap.
  9. Now we insert one part of the mold into another, stretching the "ears" of one blank into the slots in the other. We get something like a paper clip. We fold the "ears". Due to the fact that we made the cuts on the first workpiece at an angle, the "lugs" should also bend slightly at an angle, this will increase the strength of the joint.
  10. In the same way, we connect the entire part of the mold and get the finished product. Of course, its rigidity and resistance to deformation will be significantly inferior to industrial options. When working with the dough, some irregularities may make themselves felt, in some places the cutting for cookies will have to be corrected with a knife, but in general, this is quite a working tool that will significantly speed up the work, giving you the opportunity to cook really original, identical and beautiful cookies .
