Combined curtains of 2 colors and 3. Two-tone curtains in interior design

Combined curtains - the most common option for decorating window openings. The classic combination of translucent curtains with thick curtains is a time-tested combination option, which, first of all, has a purely utilitarian function, it allows you to change the interior lighting.

Practical utility through the efforts of designers and owners, seeking to ennoble and decorate the living space, gradually turned into a whole art direction - interior design.

The combination of canvases on window openings can be a three- or even four-layer structure made of various materials, inserts, and decorative finishes. Layering, slightly pushed back in the last decade by minimalism, is gaining momentum again. We can safely say that the "textile" combination will never go out of fashion, because it contains the basic principles of a person's desire for comfort, warmth, security, beauty.

Having minimal skills in needlework and artistic taste, after looking at the design photos of the combined curtains, you can make an original composition of fabrics and accessories on the window yourself.

Playing with color...

Color is the first thing that catches the eye in any interior. Design canons regarding color combinations can sometimes be pushed aside and experimented with multi-colored materials as you like. As a result, interesting unexpected effects can be obtained.

The main principle is to avoid fussiness, overloading with prints, patterns, and monochromatic materials can be combined endlessly.

Color inserts and stripes are spectacular along the edges of the curtains, at the top, bottom, in the middle, vertically, horizontally and even diagonally. At the same time, it should be taken into account that vertical lines will add height to the room, horizontal lines will add width, and diagonal lines will add dynamism.

Bright contrasting combinations are suitable for an apartment of a young couple, a children's room, an active fresh interior.

Classic tonal transitions of brown-beige, pastel green and blue, noble dark chocolate, emerald green will require compliance with all the canons of the design palette, but will bring peace, coziness and comfort to the house. Luxurious burgundy, lilac, purple shades, diluted with light gray, pale pink, milky white tones will create an atmosphere of sophistication, aristocratic chic.

Curtains for the kitchen, bedroom, living room must be selected in accordance with the overall design concept, creating not separate fragmented compositions, but the image of the whole house. Combined panels, thanks to the compatibility of materials, do an excellent job with this task.

Playing with texture...

Color sets the general direction, but texture gives depth, general aesthetics, expressiveness.

Two types of fabric, identical in color but different in texture, can make an excellent window decoration combination. For those who are not confident in their artistic taste, for beginner designers, curtains made of combined fabrics are a win-win option. There are several main options for combining by invoice:

  • Thin translucent fabric and dense fabric of the same color.
  • Translucent light curtain fabrics, organza curtains in combination with dark heavy curtain materials.
  • Light transparent fabrics (kapron, veil,) of different colors and densities.
  • Dense heavy fabrics of different textures, for example, satin and velvet, satin and jacquard, silk and tapestry.

Advice! Expensive heavy and dense materials are well combined with each other in texture, but it is better to combine simple inexpensive chintz with chintz of the same quality. The same rule applies to linen.

Manufacturers specifically for convenient combination produce collections of companion fabrics, including not only curtain materials, but also upholstery fabrics.

Having wondered how to combine curtains in two colors, but of different textures, you should pay attention to such materials, if not for use, then at least for an example of a combination. Using fabrics from the same collection will create a harmonious, cozy interior.

When working with texture, do not forget about the showiness of lush draperies. A large volume emphasizes the difference in textures, gives depth to color, makes the room cozy, especially in the cool season, at night.

When using combination techniques, it is easy to combine window decor with furniture or wallpaper, wall decoration. It is not necessary to choose perfectly tone-on-tone large panels of curtains for the living room, there are enough small but spectacular details that the curtains will unite with the overall design of the room.

We play with volume, shape, method of fastening and closing ...

Combined curtains of two colors can be made with simple straight Japanese-style straightened panels, or you can create a multi-layered lush composition in the spirit of a rococo boudoir. It all depends on the preferences of the owners, the chosen style of the room.

Laconic translucent curtains with decoration in the center or edges will maximize the preservation of natural light. Dense heavy curtains will create a feeling of security, warmth, mystery.

The volume is set by the length of the curtains. Long curtains lying on the floor are typical for classic interiors, short ones for a light rustic style (country, Provence). By adding a spectacular lace or finishing fabric along the bottom, you can, on the one hand, lengthen the curtain, and on the other, bring a touch of exclusivity.

An important point when combining fabrics and individual details in window design is the method of fastening.

Main ways:

  • fastening directly to the fabric panel, stitching elements of different colors and textures;
  • fastening on one cornice of complementary canvases;
  • fastening additional parts on separate devices (cornice board, additional hooks, loops).

Separate hanging of elements is convenient because they are easy to remove or replace, unlike sewn-on decorative parts.

Do not forget about the possibility of combining curtains according to the method of closing. For example, the combination of a roller blind with a classic one is convenient because on a hot, sunny day, a lowered roller blind will protect from scorching rays, and in the evening tightly closed heavy curtains will create an atmosphere of warmth and comfort, hiding from prying eyes.

Roll and Roman blind designs are also convenient in the case when window decoration does not involve moving canvases.

If there is no financial opportunity to “update” the window decor completely, you can resort to self-restoration of old curtains, after viewing the photo of the curtains of the new design. Finishing with colored or lace stripes, inserts, ruffles will refresh the old canvas, give it a second life at minimal cost.

A completely solid old curtain fabric, not suitable for a “fresh” repair, can be “fitted” into the updated design, supplementing it with material of the appropriate color and texture. An insignificant but effective addition in the form of a wide border, a contrasting insert can work wonders. The altered curtain does not have to return to its place, it can “move”, for example, from the living room to the kitchen.

There are countless options for combining fabrics according to different principles; this is an endless field for the imagination of designers and homeowners. Using a combination in the design of windows, you can change the style of the house, its spirit, and the process of selecting finishes, materials, accessories is a real great creativity.

Photo of combined curtains

Curtains are an integral part of beautiful interior design. More precisely, it is a mandatory attribute that completes the design of the room. Without window textiles, even the most stylish design will not look complete. In order for this final note to become the highlight of the room, designers recommend choosing the color and configuration of the curtain structure correctly.

Before making the final choice, it is necessary to study the advice of experts, take into account the design features of this room and compare the characteristics with personal preferences.

The main thing:

Two-color compositions

The fashion trend of this season are curtains made of two fabrics of different colors. Designers recommend using multi-colored fabrics of a similar texture. There are several reasons for this. Firstly, it is not always possible to pick up successful textures that will harmonize and combine with each other. And secondly, it is impossible to predict how the material will behave after washing. Some fabrics shrink, which leads to skew of the entire product.

Curtains made of two colors of fabric in the photo will look great if the density of the material is the same. If curtains are used only for decorative window trim, then you don’t have to worry about density. Thick or thin fabrics will decorate the design of the room equally well. But in most cases, window textiles perform a protective role from sunlight and prying eyes. Therefore, the curtains must be of sufficient density.

Having determined the required density of future curtains, attention should be paid to the choice of color. If two-color compositions are preferred, it is important not only to choose a good combination, but also to combine colors with the design of the room.

At this stage, designers are advised to adhere to the following rules:

  • The main color scheme of the curtains should match the color scheme of the interior design. Secondary - to be combined with the main color.
  • An excellent visual effect gives a contrasting color combination. Scarlet and red, yellow and woody, black and white are the most popular combinations.
  • If you need to visually increase the area of \u200b\u200bthe room, it is allowed to use not only a vertical combination of colors, but also a horizontal one.
  • Competent tailoring of curtains with your own hands from a fabric of two colors involves the use of dark segments in the side or lower parts of the product.

Preparation of materials

It is not difficult to sew curtains from two colors of fabric. Before starting work, it is important to decide on the type of design and color scheme. Of course, you will need a sewing machine, scissors, needles, threads and other sewing accessories. To calculate the required footage of matter, it is recommended to multiply the length of the cornice by a factor of 1.5.

The resulting figure will be the required footage. In order not to be mistaken in calculating the height of the future product, 15-20 cm should be added to the height of the room, which will be required for processing the canvas. As a result, with a ceiling height of 2.5 meters and a cornice length of 3 m, a piece of fabric of 2.7 m * 5.5 m will be required. These are the general dimensions of the piece of fabric from which the curtains will be created.

Sewing technique

To sew curtains from multi-colored pieces of fabric, you should take four canvases that match the desired parameters. These can be segments 2.7 m long and 1.37-1.40 m wide. was smooth, after stitching, it should be ironed.

It is important to process the side cuts with high quality. Designers recommend trimming the cuts with lace. On the net you can find a lot of design ideas, which present patterns for sewing curtains with lace. Additional finishing of two-color curtains can be made varied.

Both the side cuts and the lower ones are trimmed with lace. And when sewing curtains with horizontally arranged canvases, a lace insert can be placed in the center of the composition.

Final stage

To complete the tailoring of the curtains, it is necessary to sew a curtain tape to the upper cut, which will fasten the product to the eaves. If the curtain is made of two fabrics with your own hands of a roll type, it is necessary to stitch special pockets into which slats will be inserted to fasten the product.

At the end of the process, you should check the quality of the lines, the reliability of the seams. If there are no complaints about the work, the curtain made of two-color fabric should be ironed and hung on the ledge.

Summing up

Curtain in two different fabrics, this is a wonderful stylish solution that will decorate any room. Moreover, the design of the product can be ordinary curtain or roll. In both cases, the canvases will look beautiful.

Many people think that curtains are needed only to cover them from the sun and the eyes of curious people. In fact, curtains can transform the interior of any room, add harmony and comfort, color and contrast, make it unique. There are many different types of curtains. They differ in color and material. In the photo, two-color curtains for the living room will tell you the right choice.

Features of the selection of fabrics for two-color curtains

The manufacture of two-color curtains involves a combination of fabrics. When choosing them, the following properties should be taken into account:

  1. Material invoice. It is recommended to choose fabrics that are the same or similar in texture. They will be more harmoniously combined and respond equally to various influences. When washing, fabrics of different textures can shrink differently, from which the curtains will warp and lose all their attractive appearance.
  2. Density of the fabric. It is better to choose a material of medium density. It will effectively flow and visually will not "weight" the window opening.

Two-tone curtains for the living room

But first of all, when choosing a fabric, it is taken into account for what purpose the window is made out. If the curtains will only perform a decorative function, then the materials may have different properties, since they will not move often. If the curtains will perform their direct function and they plan to block the access of natural light to the room, then it is worth choosing dense fabrics that are similar in texture.

The choice of colors for two-tone curtains

After choosing the texture and density, you need to decide on the colors. To do this, it is recommended to use the following tips:

  1. For curtains, you should choose the colors that were used in the design of the room.
  2. You can make two-tone curtains the accent of the living room interior. In this case, contrasting color combinations are suitable: black and white, brown and turquoise, yellow and green, chocolate and pistachio, white and red. They are able to effectively dilute the interior of a room decorated in a monochrome style.
  3. The colors on the curtains can be combined both horizontally and vertically. You can visually make the ceilings higher with the help of two-color curtains with a combination of different colors vertically. The horizontal combination of colors visually makes the room wider.
  4. When combining colors, it is recommended to highlight the bottom or extreme parts of the curtains with a darker shade.

Curtains with two shades of the same color look very harmonious in the interior, for example, olive and emerald, dark blue and light blue. A more delicate palette includes sand, cream, vanilla, light brown. Their combination will add comfort.

It should be noted that the color is able to visually change the size of the room, its perception. Here are some examples of the influence of colors on the interior:

  1. Cold colors (blue, purple) visually enlarge the space;
  2. Warm colors (yellow, orange) give home comfort;
  3. Pastel beige tones give peace, tranquility, relax, set to rest;
  4. Gray color (even in combination with any other color) sets up a business mood;
  5. All shades of yellow (golden, lemon and others) cheer up;
  6. Blue shades bring coolness, freshness, lightness and airiness.

Tailoring of two-color curtains for the living room

Two-tone curtains for the living room can be purchased at the store or made by yourself. Sewing curtains is easy. Even a novice seamstress can handle this.

The process of sewing curtains with your own hands can be divided into several stages.

Stage 1. Determination of the required fabric size. For this you need:

  • measure the length of the cornice;
  • determine the planned length of the curtains.

Advice! To determine the length of the curtains, you should measure the distance from the hooks of the eaves to the floor covering. To the value obtained, 4-5 cm are added for the seam and the hem of the side sections.

In order for the curtains to hang in beautiful folds, the width of the purchased material should be 1.5-2 times greater than the length of the cornice. That is, for a 3-meter cornice, you need about 5-6 meters of fabric. This figure also takes into account the cost of processing the canvas on both sides.

Stage 2. Preparation

After determining the required size of the canvas, you need to buy it in a fabric store. In addition, you need to purchase a grommet or curtain tape designed to attach curtains to the eaves.

Before starting work, you should prepare all the necessary tools: scissors, needles, threads and pins, an iron and a sewing machine.

Advice! Before you start sewing, it is worth checking the quality of the stitching on a small piece of fabric. You may need to adjust the thread to avoid damaging the fabric.

Stage 3. Sewing curtains

This stage begins with cutting. Pre-prepared canvases are folded vertically in half and cut into two parts. The resulting segments of different colors must be sewn together. To do this, they are folded with the front side to each other, sewn at a distance of 1 cm from the edge. To make the seam neat, it is overlaid and ironed. The sides of the curtains are wrapped 2 cm, ironed, then wrapped another 2 cm, ironed again, and then carefully sewn along the edge of the fold. The lower part of the curtains is hemmed in the same way.

Stage 4. Sewing on the ribbon

The upper part of the curtain is tucked up to the width of the tape and ironed. Then I apply it to the lapel with loops up and fasten it with pins. A line is made along the bottom and top of the tape. Similarly, the tape is sewn to another curtain. The hooks of the cornice are threaded into the loops of the tape at an equal distance. It turns out beautiful two-color curtains with soft vertical folds.

Instead of curtain tape, you can use eyelets. These are special rings, consisting of two parts. To begin with, a sealing tape is glued to the upper edge of the curtain. It marks the places for placing each grommet. The marked parts are cut, rings are inserted there and fixed.

Decorating two-tone curtains

The presence or absence of decor on the curtains, its quantity depends on the style of the interior in which the living room is decorated.

If the living room is decorated in a classic style, then it is recommended to purchase beautiful tassels with tassels. Curtain fabrics are best used with a gold pattern, and the material should be expensive. Draperies should have a rich, luxurious look.

When sewing curtains for a living room in a modern interior style, calm colors (beige, gray, brown) are suitable. They should not have abundant decorations, draperies. The fabric can be either natural or synthetic.

The photo shows two-color curtains for the living room. We see that everything looks fashionable, stylish and original. But the main thing is that it is not difficult to make curtains with your own hands. Independent selection of material will make such curtains unique and inimitable and fit them perfectly into the interior of the living room.

*****CURTAIN DECORATION

*****Lambrequin swag with a perpendicular shoulder

*******************************************************

*******************************************************
How much fabric do you need to make curtains?

It is determined by the size and shape of the window, the style of furniture and the interior that you want to create in the room.

CURTAIN- window curtain, moved apart to the sides or lifted up. This is a broad, general concept.

PORTIER(from French Portiere, derived from Porte - "door") - dense heavy for decorating doorways. Today, this term is used to refer to expensive thick heavy (lined) curtains.

CURTAIN(from it. Gardine) - a soft curtain made of thin transparent fabric (tulle, veil, mesh, organza, lace), covering the window completely or partially.

In general, it’s clear: curtains are heavy, curtains are light curtains.

Even if you have chosen the simplest design from everything (on a curtain tape), it is not so easy to correctly calculate the required amount of fabric.

Determination of tissue consumption
To determine the fabric consumption for window blinds, you need to know the following:
* the length of the rod or rail of the eaves;
* the final width of each curtain;
* the amount of fabric, taking into account the braid for the upper edge of the curtain;
* the length of the curtains;
* pattern rapport.
It is impossible to calculate the fabric consumption according to some formula, since each model is different. Fabric consumption is calculated for each element separately, then summed up and the fabric footage for a particular model is obtained.

For example, the calculation of fabric for a lambrequin. Swag takes a standard 1.4-1.5 m of fabric. On the side tie from 1.5 m to 3 m of fabric can go. On the mold you need about 2-3 m. So consider, for example, 3 swags, 2 molds and 2 ties on a lambrequin, about 13.5 m of fabric can go.
Advice. Measurement accuracy. If possible, measure the window not with a centimeter, but with a steel tape measure. It is longer and allows you to take measurements more accurately.

How to correctly size a window

Rod or cornice rail. First you need to determine what kind of wall or ceiling cornice you have.

If the cornice is wall-mounted, then the width of the cornice is measured from tip to tip, and the height from the top of the tube to the floor. If the cornice is ceiling, then the width of the cornice is measured from edge to edge, and the height from the lower edge of the cornice to the floor. If you are planning a Roman blind or blinds, then the width and height of the window are measured along with the cashing.

Before you start measuring, fix the cornice in the right place so that you can measure the length and height. The cornice is placed above the window at a distance of 7.5-12.5 cm. On the sides of the window, the cornice protrudes 15 cm so that you can move the curtains apart and illuminate the room.

Curtain width- this is the distance from the left edge of the finished curtain to the right.

First measure the length of the curtain rod and divide it by 2 if there are two curtains. In some cases, you have to add an allowance for overlapping the curtains in the center of the cornice - pay attention to the instructions for the cornice. The actual width of the curtain is at least twice the visual one. The coefficient per pleat for tulle fabrics is 2-3, for curtain fabrics - 1.5 -3.

Curtain height/length- this is the distance from the top edge of the curtain, where it clings to the cornice, to the bottom edge, where it either hangs above the floor or lies on it.

Three options have been accepted:

* to the window sill (A) - the lower edge of the curtain is 1 cm above the window sill, so that it can move freely;
* below the window sill (B) - curtains look neater if they hang 10-15 cm below the window sill;
* to the floor (C) - the curtains are 1 cm above the floor so that they wear out less.
To determine curtain length, measure from the top of the fixed rail or from the base of the rings on the rod to the intended position of the curtain at the bottom.
Do not include head and hem allowances yet - you will add them later when calculating fabric consumption.

The calculation of fabric consumption directly depends on the width of the selected material and the direction of the pattern on the canvas.

Widthfabrics= width of roll with fabric.

If the pattern is directed perpendicularly, "across", from edge to edge, then the width of the fabric = the maximum height of the finished curtain. You pay per linear meter of curtain width. It's called "Gain Width".

If the pattern is directed along the roll, then the width of the fabric = the maximum width of the finished curtain. You pay per linear meter of curtain height. It's called "Climbing".

Fabric width per roll

The most common width of a fabric web in a roll is 280 cm. Quite often there are fabrics with a width of 300 and even 320 cm. A width of 140 - 150 cm is not uncommon. As a rule, these are special fabrics, such as velveteen or blackout. This width is often used for upholstery fabrics.

If you do not have enough height, then the issue can be solved by sewing loops on the curtain, or by making a "overdot" - a solid piece of fabric on top, and not necessarily with the same pattern. When increasing the height, it should be taken into account that it is undesirable to sew fabrics from different materials, due to the fact that after washing the parts may shrink unevenly, due to which the joint will “wrinkle”.

Drawing direction

Typically, the pattern on the fabric is oriented perpendicularly, which allows you to make a curtain of any width and limited height. If the pattern goes along the direction of the fabric, which limits the width of the curtain to 3 meters, but allows you to make any height.

You will need more fabric with a pattern so that you can match the pattern along the seams and in the middle between the curtains.

Take into account the allowance for the overlap of the drawn curtains.

Quite often, the pattern goes along the direction of the fabric in the roll. This means that the maximum width of the finished fabric curtain is 280 (-10 for processing) = 270 cm, but the height is not limited. In the event that you need a curtain of a small height, this can lead to a noticeable reduction in fabric costs. For example: if you need a curtain 1.5 m high and 2.70 wide, then with a standard arrangement of the pattern, "gaining width", you would need 2.7 linear meters of fabric (when sewing from above, a lot of excess fabric is cut off), and with a longitudinal arrangement, "gaining height" - 1.5 linear meters.

"Longitudinal" fabrics always have a regular pattern, and therefore it is necessary to take into account the rapport - the step of repeating the pattern. For example, when sewing two identical curtains, it is often necessary to align the pattern on the two halves. To do this, lay a stock of fabric equal to the rapport.

Read the label
Material consumption depends not only on the width of the window, the type of curtain design. But also on the composition of the fabric itself - if it contains more than 60% natural fibers, then 10% should be added to the consumption of matter. The fact is that natural fabrics are prone to shrinkage. It is also important to consider how the fabric is draped - light fabrics lie in soft waves, and denser ones form clear folds (there should not be many of them and it may be worth taking a little less fabric).

Choose the type of ribbon

This must be done before you finally calculate the fabric consumption, since the drapery allowance depends on the type of braid.
How to calculate curtain width?

Tulle fabrics

To determine the amount of fabric required for sewing curtains, you first need to measure the width of the cornice.

Always pay attention to the width of the fabric roll. Most tulle fabrics have a roll width of 2.80 m or more. A good, usable crease factor for tulle fabrics is 3.

For example, for a cornice of 1.5 meters, 4.5 meters of tulle will be required.

The minimum decent coefficient is 2.

That is, to calculate the required fabric consumption for curtains, you need to multiply the width of the cornice by the crease factor recommended for this type of fabric. And you will get the required footage (the calculation formula is correct provided that the height of the future curtain does not exceed the width of the roll minus the edge).

curtain fabrics

For dense curtain fabrics, the coefficient may be less - 2.5, at least 1.5.

Do not forget that the beauty of a fabric consists not only and not so much of its pattern. The texture of the fabric, its plasticity, overflows on the folds are an equally important detail. Therefore, saving on the width of the canvas should be done with a sense of proportion. In addition, the more curtain fabric, the better the protection from light.

Please note that curtain fabrics have three typical widths - 1.40 m, 2.80 m or 3.0 m. Therefore, if the length of the future curtain fits into the width of the roll, then the fabric is calculated similarly to the above example. Of course, provided that the direction of the pattern goes from edge to edge

Pattern direction from edge to edge

But if on wide fabrics the pattern is located along the edge or the width of the fabric is less than the height of the finished product, then the fabric is calculated differently. In height, sewing together several sheets of fabric: the multiplicity of sheets depends on the width of the finished curtains. In this case, we must not forget about combining the pattern between the canvases.

Pattern placement along the edge

Calculation example

Suppose you need to sew a curtain with a width of 1.20 m and a height of 2.70 m in finished form

Calculate the consumption of fabric for curtains.

If the fabric used has a width of 1.40 m and the alternation of the pattern, for example, is 0.35 m, then the formula is as follows:

Advice. For tulles, as a rule, a weighting agent is required at the bottom. Dense curtains do not require a weighting agent (as unnecessary).
Allowances for processing

Side edges

For processing the edges of the fabric on the right and left, an additional 1-5 centimeters should be laid on each side, depending on the width of the intended seam. Those. from a meter piece of fabric you get a curtain 90-98 cm wide. When ordering ready-made curtains from us, keep in mind that by placing an order, for example, for a curtain of 3 meters of fabric, in fact you will receive a finished product with a width of about 2.95.

bottom edge

At least 5 centimeters should be laid for processing the lower edge of curtain fabrics. Tulle fabrics, as a rule, come with a factory weight, so nothing needs to be laid for processing the bottom.

If you buy a set of tulle and curtains with the same pattern, keep in mind that manufacturers often leave about 10 cm of fabric at the bottom of the curtains to adjust the height of the pattern. That is, if you put tulle and curtain fabrics next to each other, then the lower edge of the curtain will be 10 cm lower than the weight of the tulle. Accordingly, the upper edge of the curtain will also be lower. This point must be taken into account if the height of the finished curtain is critically close to the width of the fabric. For example, if you need a finished curtain 2.90 m in height, and the width of the fabric is 3 m, then you can sew the curtain (for example, use a narrow curtain tape), but there is nowhere to take 10 cm to fit the pattern.

Among other things, the lower hem has a safety function. For example, if after an incorrectly chosen washing mode, the curtain noticeably sat down (shrinkage can reach 5-10% of the height of the curtain), and you have an extra 15 centimeters in the bottom hem - the issue price is to rip the seam, release the stock, hem again. The average price of a decent atelier for this service is 100 rubles / m line.

And for those who have not forgotten the labor lessons at school, the whole procedure, taking into account the unpacking of the sewing machine and packing it back, will take 30 minutes.

In extreme cases (for example, the curtain is hung on another window, with a higher cornice), the same operation can be done with the upper hem, although it is more difficult there, because there are already two lines, plus a curtain tape. Therefore, laying more fabric in the upper and lower hem at least will not hurt. And at the bottom, such an "extra" fabric will, moreover, play the role of an impromptu weighting agent.

Top edge

The margin for processing the upper edge of the curtain depends on the type of attachment.

For curtain tape(aka mounting tape) - these are two widths of this tape. In extreme cases, one width, plus a few millimeters. For example, for the manufacture of curtains, we, by default, use a tape 6 cm wide, and lay 12 cm of fabric on a double hem.

Sometimes it becomes necessary to leave a strip of fabric a few centimeters wide above the curtain tape - the so-called "side", it is also a "comb", for example, to close the cornice. Accordingly, when calculating, it is necessary to lay a double supply of fabric on it. By the way, the side, among other things, gives a nice fold.

For eyelets the situation is similar, with the exception of an important point - a strip of dense self-adhesive fabric on which the eyelets (grommet tape) are held - 10-20 cm. this number will not work with eyelets - whatever one may say, the maximum possible height is 266 cm

with material for loops the situation is simple - if there is not enough extra fabric cut off from above for them, you can additionally buy a few tens of centimeters of fabric. which is enough not only for loops, but also pickups.

More about mounting types:

Curtain tape (aka mounting tape)

The most popular and most budget option for tailoring. The fabric is processed along the edges, a curtain tape is sewn on top, which has loops for which hooks attached to the cornice cling.

In addition, two strong thick threads are stretched along the tape, allowing you to accurately and correctly "assemble" the fabric, evenly distributing the fold.

drawstring

The simplest and oldest way to fix a curtain on a rod cornice is to thread it through the drawstring: the top of the curtain is tucked up and stitched, and the cornice is “threaded” into the formed pipe. Do not be skeptical about this option - the top of the drawstring can be decorated with ruffles, lace and make it wide enough (at least 10 cm). When assembled, everything looks very impressive.

In fact, the drawstring is one large loop (see below) for the entire width. In order for a 3.5 cm pipe / cornice to fit into the drawstring, a drawstring of 5-6 cm is needed (remember the school - 2πR) In practice, such an extreme is not recommended, if the fabric is tight, it will be difficult to collect the fold. Usually the drawstring is made 1-2 cm wider (in a smoothed state) - in our case - 8 cm

loops

Loops are very appropriate for "home" style. They are also useful for high ceilings where the fabric height is a bit short and the only alternative is to overdot the fabric. Loops can be made with Velcro, which greatly simplifies hanging curtains (no need to remove the curtain rod).

Eyelets

If you want to emphasize the beauty of your cornice - this option is just for you.
Luvers- originally a metal, and now, more and more often, a plastic ring installed in textile or plastic products. It is used for threading laces, cables, etc. through the fabric.
Minuses:
Higher cost
Increased care requirements - if you choose the wrong washing mode, the adhesive base (grommet tape), on which everything rests, can behave unpredictably.
It takes a lot of fabric to process with this method of fastening, and the maximum height of the curtain is less than that of other fastening methods - not fatal: 0) - you can sew on the fabric. By the way, it doesn’t have to be the same, it can be different.

Pros:
Very easy sliding on the ledge
Indispensable if you have a high-tech style, and a lot of chrome that cannot be hidden. The same applies to any cornice material that is emphasized, be it antique bronze or mahogany. There are eyelets for any materials.
Uniform fold, the step of which can be controlled.

How to calculate curtain height

Curtains on curtain tape

As a rule, a curtain tape 6 centimeters wide is used, which has 2 rows of pockets for which hooks cling.

The tape is sewn to the top edge of the curtain in such a way that:

  • The first row of pockets was 1.5 cm from the top edge of the curtain

  • The second row of pockets was 3 cm from the top edge of the curtain
If you need to close the cornice, you can release a little fabric over the curtain tape - the so-called. "comb". The scallop is not recommended to be made larger than 2-3 cm, otherwise the fabric will “fall off” ugly.
Thus, in order to calculate the height of the curtain, you need to measure the distance from the hook attachment point to the bottom edge of the future curtain, and add 3 cm to this distance.
For example: You want a floor-length curtain. We measure the distance from the hook to the floor - let it be 247 cm. Add 3 cm - we get 250.

In this case, you will hook the hooks to the central pockets (which are 3 cm from the top edge of the curtain). These 3 centimeters from above will just close the hook.
Curtains on grommets

In order to find out the required height of the curtains on the grommets, you need to measure the distance from the top point of the cornice (the point where the grommet is in contact with the cornice with its inner side) and add 3 cm to this. That's it.

If you need a larger scallop, then unlike fastening on a curtain tape, the problem of falling off the fabric is not worth it, since the grommet on which the eyelets are mounted perfectly holds the upper edge.
<How to calculate the length of a curtain for a patterned fabric
To determine the consumption of fabric with a pattern, you need to know the size of the rapport.

To calculate the allowance for matching the pattern, measure the distance (R) between the same points of adjacent motifs. The size of the rapport is sometimes indicated on the fabric, so see the markings. When buying fabric add one length of repeat for each curtain panel.

Cutting preparation.
On a large flat surface, lay the fabric out completely, preferably on a clean floor. To combine the pattern, lay out two panels side by side.

Lay the fabric straight with the right side up. On the patterned fabric, mark the bottom edge. The curtains will
it is more beautiful if a whole rapport or its finished part passes along the hemmed bottom edge.
Bottom edge alignment. Using the cover of a book or a large rectangle, draw a line perpendicular to the side edge.
Then cut the fabric along the marked line.

>

Open.

Measure the length of the curtain from the marked bottom edge. Through the resulting point, draw a line perpendicular to the side edge and cut the fabric along it.

To cut the second panel, lay the remaining piece of fabric

Along the tailored panel and align the pattern. Also hide the second

Cloth.

To get the panel of the desired width, stitch the cut cuts. If the curtain contains a whole section and a half, place the incomplete section at the edge.

Cloth connection. Peel off the panels with the front sides, check the alignment of the pattern on the front side. To more accurately combine the pattern, secure the panels with a vertical seam.
Stitching panels. Stitch the panels with 1.5 cm allowances. Iron the allowances on one side, cut them to 6 mm, patch

Zigzag and remove the threads of the vertical seam.

Unlined curtains can be French stitched.

Advice. If the rapport is very large, use the pieces of fabric left after cutting for tiebacks or decorative stitches.

Pelmet "BUF"

In order to give the kitchen interior exclusivity and originality, in addition to furniture, decoration and bright dishes, one should especially consider the selection of curtains.

Using combined curtains of two colors, you can create a beautiful look and comfort in the kitchen. The kitchen is a room where curtains play mainly a decorating role and giving comfort.

In order for the combined curtains to fit perfectly into the interior, it is necessary to take into account the generally accepted principles of harmonious combination and adjustment of space.

Fundamentals of winning combinations

Warming and cooling: for rooms located on the north side, we combine curtains from two colors of the warming palette, and for the south, respectively, of the cooling one. It should also be taken into account that warming colors visually reduce the space, so in a kitchen with a small area, it is better to use cold-colored curtains.

Harmony and special attention: the design of combined curtains should create harmony with the finishes and kitchen furniture.

Colors and texture: curtains can be combined from several fabrics of the same category, but in different tones. It is also possible to connect fabrics of different composition and light transmission.

It is worth remembering that the material must be practical, because the kitchen is a room with a special climate: high humidity and temperature, fumes and steam. Therefore, you need to choose a fabric that does not get dirty and is easy to care for.

Drawings and patterns: with their help, the thematic orientation of the interior is emphasized.

Combined curtains in different variations

The pattern on the fabric can be used to visually change the space in the kitchen:

  • a vertical strip on a long, floor-length curtain will visually make the ceiling higher;
  • a horizontal strip will make the walls and window opening wider;
  • a large ornament will bring the window closer, and a small one will move it away.

Important! Curtains should be combined not only with the interior of the kitchen, but also with each other: colors, patterns, patterns, accessories.

Unusual curtain combinations

An elementary option for decorating a kitchen window is curtains combined from two colors.

The simplest of the classic options is to use light shades as a base, and dark tones as a contrast.

A set of red and white fabric will make a cheerful and elegant kitchen.

By adding a bright check, stripes, flowers or a diametrical sketch, you can create harmony in the kitchen.

Contrasting curtains from combined fabrics

This approach will be an invaluable find for decorating a kitchen that is bright and catchy. Contrasting curtains harmoniously complement the colors that are in the decoration and interior, and give the kitchen a festive look.

The most difficult thing is not to make a mistake in choosing shades for contrast, so that the window does not look like an unnecessary element. In this case, it is necessary to build on any two colors that are in the interior, and give the curtains saturation in color.

Contemporary curtain combination

Tips for successful combinations:

  • use fabrics of different transparency and weaves;
  • to impose fabric one on another in different colors, while creating the appearance of a third color.
  • when combining, it is necessary to use a common element: braid, frill, bow, etc.

Curtains combined from several pieces of fabric look unusual. In this case, you can not stick to the dimensions of symmetry, because asymmetrical patchwork curtains, sewn in a playful mess, will give the kitchen a unique charm and cosiness.

To create harmony with the kitchen environment, you can think over and use the remaining patches from the tablecloth, cover or upholstery of the kitchen corner.

For interiors with a discreet design, when the advantage is given to light shades and natural tones, it is best to use combined curtains from two different materials, but of the same color.

This option will increase the kitchen space and complement the interior with an unobtrusive, but piquant element.

After viewing the photo, you can combine curtains in two colors, choose the options you like, decorate the kitchen to your liking and enjoy the comfort and originality.
