The resulting mass is placed in a water bath until complete dissolution, stirring systematically. Due to the fact that turpentine is highly flammable, it is heated in a container with hot water. Then, when the liquid mixture is ready, heated turpentine is added to it and mixed thoroughly. At the end, the mass poured into a separate container can be placed in the cold until it thickens.

With three ingredients at hand: wax, rosin and turpentine, you can make mastic at home.

According to the second recipe, it is enough to take two pieces of beeswax, which are ground on a fine grater. Then, they put it in a water bath and make sure that the ingredient is completely melted. Stirring constantly, add a glass of water to the resulting mass, making sure that the solution does not curdle. At the final stage, the mixture prepared in this way is left in a cold place.

The solution does not freeze completely, due to the presence of water, the mastic turns into a thick slurry, which is applied to the surface to be treated. It is recommended to cover individual wooden elements with such a substance that are not subject to constant stress.

Separation by technological features

Important: polyurethane-rubber composite mastic, made in an oil solvent, does not completely harden, being constantly in a semi-liquid state.

Classification of floor coatings

Wax-based formulations are considered classics, although many alternatives have appeared, this material is still in great demand. This coating gives the wood a special noble shine and stability. In addition, it is the wax mastic that is best suited for leveling wood floors. There are practically no restrictions on the type of wood.

If you are interested in imitating wood on mastic with your own hands, then this material is perfect. Most often, a water-based mastic is taken on an acrylic or any other fibrous base to match the natural array and a brush with stiff bristles, dark translucent varnish or paint, a surface pattern of the fibers is applied.

The price of such a material is quite acceptable, but the whole problem is that these compositions were developed for hard wood species, ideally it should be oak. For covering other types of wood, this option is also suitable, only the consistency becomes thicker.

Natural formulations

  • Most natural mastics contain 2 main components, these are oil and beeswax.
  • As for the oil, any pure refined oil is taken as a basis; experienced craftsmen prefer flaxseed oil. On its basis, the 3 most common compositions are made. Peppermint, angelica and dandelion oil.
  • 200 g of dried and crushed mint is added per liter of liquid, mixed well and placed in a dark place for 2 weeks, and during this entire period, shake and stir every day. After straining, the composition can be used.

Important: peppermint oil is prepared from dried mint, while angelica and dandelion oil is prepared from dried and crushed roots of these plants.
The proportions and technology remain the same.

  • Only real beeswax is taken, and it should not be strongly purified, a small amount of honey, propolis and dried bees will only make the mastic better.
  • The natural wax mastic itself is easy to prepare. Depending on what consistency you need, the proportions can be 1: 2, 1: 3 or 1: 4, where 1 part wax to 4 parts oil.
  • The composition is heated in a glass or enamel dish, in a water bath, until it is completely dissolved and mixed. After the mastic has cooled it can be used. For hard wood, soft mastics are taken and vice versa.
