We build a brick outdoor fireplace with our own hands. How to make a brick brazier with your own hands: options and step-by-step instructions Drawing of a brick brazier

Brazier made of bricks - a special brazier for cooking barbecue, built of bricks. A solid brick brazier is often more functional and is used as a grill and barbecue, often other dishes are prepared on it, even just warming up food. It is also an interesting art object on a suburban area. It is pleasant to gather around such a building in a large company.

How to choose a seat?

  • Do not forget that this structure is an object of increased fire hazard. It should not be located near a house, wooden or other flammable outbuildings.
  • The building should not be too far from the resting place. Ideal - near the gazebo or not far from the summer kitchen. You can put a wide canopy, which will not only protect the brick brazier from precipitation, but also cover a couple of benches and a table.
  • Be sure to equip the site. There should be no flower beds or beds nearby, since the grass will simply dry out from the high temperature. You should think about a convenient approach, or better a few. Toilet and waste containers should not be located nearby.
  • If the wind is constantly blowing in one direction, make sure that smoke does not enter the windows of residential buildings.

What do you need for construction?

The best building material is fireclay brick (stove). It can withstand large temperature fluctuations and does not deteriorate. Use clay with sand as a mortar for masonry. But it requires pre-soaking.

For an outdoor brick barbecue, you need a good base, which means you will need building material for the foundation (cement, sand, rubble stone, plywood or formwork boards, reinforcement, stones and crushed stone).

You will also need metal corners, grilles, latches, an iron sheet. If you plan to make niches and a work area, then you will need a stone countertop, the doors can be made of wood or metal.

Of the tools required:

  • shovel;
  • Master OK;
  • level;
  • buckets for solutions;
  • concrete mixer or trough;
  • Circular Saw.

A project is definitely being developed or a ready-made one is taken. It is not only convenient to carry out work on it, but also to calculate the required amount of materials. A small supply never hurts, but large surpluses are useless.

Pouring the foundation

A stationary brick brazier requires a foundation:

  • A hole must be dug according to the dimensions of the project.
  • Lay out the bottom of the pit with rubble with rubble, formwork is installed (it is better to moisten it).
  • Next, the pit is poured with a concrete mixture of cement and sand in a ratio of 1: 3, but with layers and laying of a reinforcing mesh. Under no circumstances should the fittings lie on the bottom of the pit. If the pit is small, and the walls are flat, then no formwork is needed.
  • From above, the foundation is covered with roofing material or an ordinary film.
  • When the weather is hot, it is recommended to sometimes spray the base with water for even drying. It will take 1-2 weeks for the concrete to set and dry. Brick laying is carried out only after the foundation has completely solidified.
  • During this time, you can prepare a clay solution. It is necessary to soak the clay in a tub for a week, stirring occasionally and adding water if necessary. Then add sand. A good solution resembles thick sour cream in consistency, it should be easy to handle and not spread.
  • It is easy to check the quality of the solution. To do this, mix a small amount of clay with dry sand. Roll it into a rope with a diameter of 1 cm. It should not lose shape, crack or spread.

Bricklaying

The order of the brick brazier is shown in the following figure. If you want to draw the order yourself, then it is most convenient to do this on a piece of paper in a cage.

The easiest way to masonry for a barbecue is made of bricks - each row is shifted by half a brick in one direction or the other. You should start laying the basement from the corners to the center along the pre-marked lines. Every 3 rows, check with a level and a plumb line, as well as lay a reinforcing mesh.

The first row of masonry, like the second, is made solid. The plinth can have different heights, depending on the project, and several compartments in which it is convenient to store firewood, charcoal, some utensils, etc.

For the brazier, you can use a pre-cast concrete base with reinforcement or lay it out of bricks.

If the firebox is planned to be arched, then a circle is used. A gap of 1 cm is left between the bricks. It is best to use chips for this. This will distribute the bricks evenly. Only after that, the space is sprayed with water and filled with a solution. The kruzhalo is left for 1-2 days.

From above, the firebox is covered with a reinforced concrete beam or an iron corner. One more row of bricks is laid out on the jumper from above.

If a brick grill is planned to be used as a barbecue, then you need to think in advance about the location of the grill. For this, small protrusions are made. The lattice itself is placed on reinforcement rods embedded in the walls of the building. Several protrusions can be made in order to be able to position the grill at different levels.

Next, wind walls are laid and a smoke collector is made. The pipe is attached to support columns and gradually tapers. This is the simplest design. And to protect it from rainfall, a metal visor is installed above it.

In simple schemes of brick braziers, the pipe may be absent altogether, as well as wind walls.

Decorating and canopy

In order for the building to serve as long as possible, it is necessary to build a canopy.

He might be:

  • general and cover the entire recreation area;
  • be directly above the barbecue.

For this, concrete bases are made under the canopy posts or fixed to the plinth. Supports can be metal or wooden. In the latter case, according to fire safety rules, they must be at least 16 cm away from the structure and treated with special antiseptics.

The roof for the canopy is made of absolutely any material. But if it is combined with the roof of the house and other outbuildings, then the brick brazier will harmoniously fit into the overall landscape.

The structure can be left as it is, only slightly passing through the grinder. Can be coated with special paints for brick ovens. The decorative stone trim looks interesting. You can also use special plaster.

You can also use various decorative elements not only on the grill itself, but also on the doors of built-in wardrobes, shelves, etc.

Watch the following video, which clearly shows the process of building a brick barbecue.

Projects, diagrams and drawings

There are many ready-made projects of brick braziers, varying in the level of complexity of execution, costs and decorative options. You can develop your own drawing based on existing diagrams.

We present the brazier scheme, according to which it is easy to build a brazier out of bricks with your own hands.

Typically, the height from the ground to the brazier is defined as the distance from the hand to the floor. If the owner is tall, then the firebox will be high enough. The width of the brazier does not exceed 30 cm, otherwise the standard skewer will simply fall into it. In length, most often it does not exceed 1 m, based on 10 skewers.

You can build a brick brazier with your own hands according to the following drawing.

And really, why not? In order to start the independent construction of a brick barbecue or barbecue at a summer cottage, you must choose the "right" place. It should be located so that the wind does not interfere with the cook's creation of delicious snacks and does not disperse the smoke to neighboring territories. And then, you need to take care of a solid foundation for future construction, which will create a solid foundation. How to do this, and why do you need a foundation for a self-built one, you will be told by step-by-step instructions, which you can find on our website.

Why do you need to fill the foundation?

If you want the future brick brazier to please you for more than one year, you just need to take care of its foundation. Otherwise, you will waste time and money on the used material.
What should be the size of the foundation - it directly depends on the planned dimensions of the structure. If necessary, to make the process of building a barbecue from a brick easier with your own hands, you can watch a video and photo instructions on our website. It is likely that they will help you quickly cope with any task.

So, first you need to dig a pit. Then, at the edges of the pit, install the formwork, pour concrete there and reinforce the slab. This whole structure must be left alone for two weeks, until it completely hardens.

Well, after the foundation has completely hardened, it will be possible to begin the construction of a brick barbecue with your own hands.

How to build a brick brazier with your own hands?

If you take it as a whole, then in order to build a brick brazier with your own hands, you do not need any drawings and diagrams. The only thing they are useful for is for calculating building materials. And they represent the following list:

  • heat-resistant brick (as the main element);
  • wire for strengthening brickwork;
  • cement;
  • sand;
  • reinforcing bars or mesh;
  • slaked lime;
  • metal corners.

In order to make a rough estimate, you need to roughly lay out the bricks in the form in which they should be. This way you can find out where the seams will be located, and how many halves or even quarters of bricks you need.

Also, do not forget that brick is a hygroscopic material. Therefore, it is best to put two layers of roofing material or some other waterproofing under it.

Well, when all the materials are prepared, you can start building a brick barbecue with your own hands in the country.

Prepare your masonry mortar. To do this, you will need to mix one part cement with three parts sand and one quarter slaked lime. As a result, you should have a creamy thick mixture, on which you will lay out the previously prepared brick.

According to the technology, all rows are staggered, the reference point of which is the first row of masonry. The brick should be laid out from the corner, gradually filling the side walls.

And starting from the second row, it is advisable to use a clay-chamotte mixture, which will not allow the brazier to crumble from high temperatures.

Brazier device

As a base for the brazier, reinforcing rods are installed between the opposite walls, on which the base of the furnace is laid (for example, a metal pallet).

Do not forget that in addition to the design, you must choose the right one.

Do-it-yourself stationary barbecue made of bricks

For the construction of such a device, it is required to study a detailed drawing and photo, determine the location and calculate the required amount of building materials.

Below is a video on how to build a brick brazier from a furnace teacher. He clearly demonstrates the process of assembling a structure using small blocks. It turns out a kind of brick barbecue mock-up.

For the construction of the structure, you will need the following materials:

  • cement;
  • slaked lime;
  • reinforcing bars or reinforcing mesh;
  • wire;
  • sand;
  • metal corners;

Foundation

When the preparatory work is completed, we proceed to the construction of the foundation:

After 10-15 days, we begin laying bricks. This time is necessary for the foundation to completely freeze.

Masonry mortar

Now we start preparing a special mixture. For this we take:

  • 1 part cement;
  • 1/4 slaked lime;
  • 3 pieces of sand.

Pour the resulting dry composition with liquid, mix and bring the mass to a consistency with the density of sour cream.

We build a brazier

The next stage is the base, which can be quite varied.

It is best to lay the first row of bricks dry, which will allow you to use whole blocks and halves in the future, that is, crushing can be avoided. It is worth remembering that this building material has water-absorbing properties, which means that it is recommended to moisten it before laying in order to avoid possible inconveniences. It must be remembered that the brick should be placed strictly according to the scheme.

In order to achieve the maximum stability of the structure of the future summer cottage barbecue, we lay the second brick row from the corners, gradually filling the area of the partitions, and with a deviation of half a bar (the so-called checkerboard pattern).

The ordering of a stationary barbecue will help you visualize the process of erecting a structure step by step. Use it in your work.

If desired, a stationary brick brazier can be built of any width and height.

Every three rows, check the planes of the structure using a building level and a plumb line. This will avoid skewing the structure.

The most crucial and difficult stage is laying the brazier. To build its base, you need to place reinforcing bars and corners between the opposite walls.

The furnace itself will be made of metal with a fairly high density. To improve the operation of the brazier, it is recommended to leave a few slots in it that are not filled with masonry mixture. This will allow air to enter the frypot and improve the combustion of the flame.

If a certain number of bricks are laid at a slightly different level in relation to the rest, you can get a place for the grate.

The next step is to put wind walls and build a smoke collector, which serves to accumulate flue gases and divert them into a pipe, which is attached to the support columns and gradually narrows.

As a result, we should get the following construction:

Final work

At this stage, our homemade stationary brick grill for summer cottages is completely ready for use. However, we advise you to transform it a bit as follows.

An outdoor barbecue has long become a must-have for a country house on most family holidays. It can be portable or stationary made of metal. But the best option is a stationary outdoor grill using materials such as brick or stone. They are durable and can serve as an excellent architectural design element of the site.

In the manufacture of a brazier from a stone requires high qualifications of the master and the process itself is more laborious. Working with a material such as brick is much easier and allows you to do it on your own.

A variety of bricks with different properties produced today allows you to translate all ideas into reality. Street barbecues made of bricks in the photo.

Construction stages

  1. We decide on the design, make a project and a drawing of a brick street barbecue;
  2. We select materials (brick, cement, clay, sand, structurally necessary metal elements) and tools necessary for work;
  3. We build the foundation;
  4. We lay the brick.

A street brazier made of bricks with their own hands is built using metal elements - doors, covers, flooding, boxes and scattering gratings. Metallic materials are usually purchased in specialized stores, but you can also use hand-made materials from improvised means. The most expensive option is to order exclusive metal elements at any forge.

Installation of a foundation for a brick brazier

Seasonal cycles of groundwater reheating, freezing and thawing, and the nature of the soils themselves, requires the arrangement of a foundation for brickwork. This will ensure the long-term operation of the structure.

  1. A do-it-yourself foundation project suggests that its overall dimensions should be larger than the size of the barbecue itself. The depth of the trench for arranging the foundation directly depends on the nature of the soil on the site. Sandy soils do not require much deepening, 25 cm will be enough. If it is difficult to get to the sand or it is not at all, then it is enough to go 50 cm deep and fill the bottom of the trench with sand. The sand pillow layer should be at least 10-15 cm.
  2. Further, the trench is filled with small pebbles or gravel, followed by pouring a cement mixture. The composition of the cement mortar is one bucket of cement for three buckets of sand with the addition of water. The sand must be taken from the river. In the presence of a concrete mixer, the process is simplified - crushed stone with cement, sand and water is mixed and becomes more homogeneous.
  3. Then the resulting mixture (concrete) is poured into the trench. The foundation to be poured is leveled with a trowel or a shovel. We take a break for the solidification process for a day or a little more. After our mixture has frozen, we check the side and top parts of the foundation using the building level.
  4. Protruding flaws can be easily removed with a hammer. After the foundation is completely frozen, we lay the waterproofing; roofing material can be used as a material.

Laying bricks for barbecue

Since the brick will be exposed to high temperatures, then the mortar for laying it must have refractory properties. An important role in this is played by such a component as clay.

To clay with a high fat content, it is necessary to add sand, to lean clay - clay with a high fat content.

The composition of the available material can be determined independently, without chemical analyzes. This is easy to do with the stir bar. Scheme for determining the quality of clay: in a bucket, pour 2-3 liters of clay with water and stir until the lumps disappear. It is better to stir the composition not immediately, but to let the clay swell. After obtaining a homogeneous mass, remove the bar from the solution.

Clay with normal properties does not stick to the plank, but forms a clay deposit. Oily clay sticks noticeably to the bar, the poor one has no contact at all, it just flows down. Having found out the characteristics of the clay, we proceed to kneading the solution.

  1. The brick of the first row must be laid very carefully, but it is also important that the further ordering of the street brick grill is strictly observed. First, you should make a brickwork project.
  2. The ordering must be carried out with the obligatory application of the level that is used in construction. One of the well-established rules for arranging a barbecue is the ordering in the initial row of bricks on the edge. But this is not so much a practical task as a decorative one. The order and layout are shown in the video.
  3. We lay the initial two rows of bricks in solid masonry in the form of a rectangle, while carefully leveling all the corners by level. When laying, the brick is cleaned of all excess mortar so that the appearance of the future building is not damaged.
  4. The scheme for laying the third row of bricks involves the formation of space for additional elements of the barbecue. Street grill made of bricks in the photo.
  5. At the final stage, you need to build a chimney.
  6. In this case, the ordering is carried out in such a way that the brick gradually moves in the rows. It is necessary to shift the rows by no more than a third of the brick, otherwise the structure will be unstable. You also need to take care of the reliable dressing of the sutures.
  7. At the final stage, you can cover the structure with some kind of protective compound. This will help prevent mortar from leaching out of the joints between the bricks. As an option - a silicone water repellent.

An outdoor brick brazier fireplace is built in the same order, but involves an increase in the width of the furnace space.

An outdoor grill-smokehouse made of bricks differs in that the diagram and drawing will be somewhat more complicated. It is assumed that the furnace is located below ground level, the presence of a smoking cabinet and a smoke generator.

All efforts to build a barbecue will quickly pay off with the pleasure of using it and the enjoyment of the sight, taste and smell of delicious dishes cooked on it. May your outdoor recreation be pleasant and the meat delicious!

A metal brazier is definitely good. But, in addition to functionality, I also want beauty, especially on the site: in the country or near the house. A brick barbecue gives an attractive look without sacrificing functionality. There are very simple models that can be folded, even without skill, in a day or two, there are more complex ones - whole complexes. We do not recommend folding such without experience, but try a simple barbecue oven or just a brick brazier. Master the masonry, the basic techniques, and then you can take on more serious projects.

Barbecue grill - what's the difference

There is no exact division between barbecues and barbecues. The main difference is that they cook on skewers on the grill, while berbekyu is made on a wire rack. But both of these cooking methods can be used even over a fire, so - for us in any case - that the grill, that the barbecue maker is one design.

It can also be classified by the presence of a roof. A brazier is always an open device, without a chimney. In barbecues, especially made of bricks, chimneys are often made, although there are also simple open models.

Simple brick grill

This design is very simple, easy to change to suit any needs and desires. It consists of brick walls, in which protrusions are arranged (the brick is placed on the edge). Heat-resistant sheets (metal, etc.), grates, skewers are placed on these ledges. Convenient, especially if there is some kind of roof over your head in case of precipitation, but it is built separately and at will.

Project and photo of the finished barbecue / barbecue made of bricks

Any brick building requires a foundation, or at least a prepared foundation. Not even this small brick barbecue. Since there are not many bricks - the wall is half a brick, a rammed platform lined with some kind of hard coating is suitable for this structure.

Preparation of the base

Remove the fertile layer, if necessary, deepen the pit. The depth should be about 20-25 cm. The dimensions of the foundation or platform are 50 cm larger than the dimensions of the furnace in all directions. The bottom is leveled, crushed stone of the middle fraction is poured onto it. The thickness of the crushed stone layer is 15 cm. It is well rammed. Desirable - a vibrating plate, if not, a metal or wooden rammer.

Further steps depend on the chosen base. If this is one of the coatings - paving stones, paving slabs and similar materials, then a layer of fine-grained sand is poured into which the coating is laid according to the level.

If a slab foundation is chosen as the base, it is reinforced with a rod of 10 mm in diameter. It is laid along and across the foundation with a step of 20 cm, at the intersection it is tied. If you do not know how to knit with special wire, you can pull it off with plastic clamps. Reinforcement with a finished thick wire mesh is allowed for this model. The formwork is exposed at the edges and everything is poured. Work can be started in a week if the average daily temperature was not lower than + 20 ° C, and after two, if it was + 17 ° C.

For this brick barbecue, a solid ceramic brick M200 is used. You can take a stove, but it is more expensive, you should not put fireclay: the temperatures are not the same and it loves moisture too much to feel normal in an open grill.

The masonry is carried out on a clay-sand mixture, to which a little cement is added for greater strength. For beginners, it is better to take a ready-made mixture for stoves, just not heat-resistant, without chamotte. Knead according to the instructions, the seam thickness is 3-5 mm, keep strictly. Constantly control the verticality of the walls and the horizontalness of the masonry. This is essential for the normal operation of the oven.

As you can see, everything is really very simple. Each odd row starts with a whole brick, an odd row starts with a half. In the 6th and 10th rows, bricks are placed on a spoon - sideways, and unfold across the main masonry. If you are making a barbecue - under the grate - in the same rows, the back wall is made of bricks, also placed on spoons, and to maintain the thickness of the masonry, they are placed in two rows, as well as the others - with dressing - offset seams. If you are going to use ka brazier - for skewers - put a brick on the back wall, also on a spoon, making a ledge in this area as well. In front, as a support for skewers, a profile metal pipe of small cross-section, cut to size, is used. In it, under the skewer, you can make recesses.

Starting from the 7th row, the laying is carried out only in half - right or left - as you like, but this layout is given under the frying chamber on the left - it is wider, and there is a table on the left. If the opposite is more convenient for you, do a mirror image of this order.

Brick is a hygroscopic material, in order to reduce the amount of moisture that it will "pull" from the base and extend its life, waterproofing is needed under the first row. You can lay rolled material in two layers (such as roofing material or waterproofing material), walk along the perimeter with a hydrophobic impregnation. A layer of waterproofing between the first and second row will not interfere.

This is what one of the variations of a brick barbecue looks like without a table (if you don't need it, just ignore this part)

After the brick brazier is folded, it is left to dry in warm weather for 1-2 days, in cooler weather - 3-5 days. Then you can conduct a test run. Approximate "equipment" is shown in the photo of the finished barbecue. In this version, three rows of protrusions are made: the upper one is for products, the middle one is for coals, and the lower one is for collecting burnt coals and ash.

In order for the folded brazier to serve more or less for a long time, it is desirable to cover it with a composition that reduces hygroscopicity. For this case, the KO-85 varnish is best suited. And it would also be nice to provide some kind of lid: to close it in case of rain and for the winter.

Brick BBQ with chimney: ordering

This barbecue option is a little more difficult, but also not the most difficult. The most important thing is that the combustion chamber here has a straight vault, and it is much easier to make it vaulted. The brick frying chamber is raised to a height of 90 cm, the total height - to the beginning of the pipe - 217.5 cm.

It all starts with the preparation of the foundation. For this barbecue oven, only a monolithic reinforced base (reinforcement pitch 15 cm) on a base compacted with rubble is suitable. On the dried foundation, waterproofing is spread in two layers, then laying begins. If barbecuing is done in a gazebo, the first row of masonry should start at floor level. If the foundation is lower, lay out an additional row (or two) bricks, and then begin laying according to the above diagram.

The first 9 rows do not require any special explanation. They are laid exactly according to the scheme, observing the order, using halves and cut bricks, if indicated on the plan. It is imperative to check the verticality of the resulting walls, as well as control the thickness of the mortar - 8-10 mm and the horizontal laying of each brick.

To control the thickness of the seam, you can use a reinforcement bar of the appropriate diameter. It is placed on the edge, the surface of the row is filled with a solution, the excess is cut off with a trowel just above the bar. After laying and tapping the bricks, an even seam is obtained - the bar does not allow the brick to go lower than necessary. The bar is then removed and shifted higher.

To be able to lay the 6th row (solid), after laying the 5th, put a strip of metal 4-5 mm thick, 40 mm wide. Length - slightly less than the furnace span - 1450 mm. Strips are needed 3 - one on the edge, two approximately in the middle of each row of bricks, or as indicated below (11th row).

The layout of the next rows of barbecue is clear. Only in the 12th row, pay attention - you need bricks sawn along. It should also be said that the 12th and 13th rows are larger than the lower ones - forming a decorative "belt".

Fireclay bricks (ША-8) are marked in light color in these rows. They put it on the same composition of clay and sand (it is possible to add a small proportion of cement). It is better not to use mixtures based on chamotte: they need very high temperatures for sintering, which are unattainable in street barbecues. As a result, this solution may subsequently simply crumble.

On this part of the ordering, everything is also clear: we begin to shape the arch of the firebox. It overlaps on the 22nd row in which it gradually tapers.

The vault continues to form, which in the 30th row passes into the chimney. Next, the 30th and 31st rows alternate until the required height is reached.

At first, a few simpler options. You can make these brick barbecues yourself.

Variations on the same theme - original finish

Several barbecues that can be built with some experience, but it is better to entrust a specialist (if you find it, of course)
