Buying furniture for a suburban area is a simple matter, but not everyone can make a wooden table for a summer residence with their own hands. You should immediately be ready to make a garden table with your own hands for several days. But the tips listed below will help you make a solid table yourself.
Today we will design a rather simple country table with our own hands in the Provencal style. These tables not only look great, but also have a fairly robust design. It is worth paying attention to the boards. They must be even, since the appearance of our country table will directly depend on this.
When designing a table for a summer residence, it is necessary to prepare lumber in three dimensions:
- Bearing frame - section 38 X 90 mm.
- Table top - section 38 X 140 mm.
- Support bars - section 19 X 64 mm.

Before starting work, the most important thing is to find on the Internet, or to make drawings of a table for a summer residence yourself. The exact schematic designation will allow you to select the lumber that will be most suitable in cross-section to the dimensions indicated in the diagram. It does not matter if the dimensions do not quite coincide with each other, because you can always make a fit using an electric planer.

- two upper cross-beams, dimensions 38 X 90 X 978 mm;
- four legs for a country table with your own hands, 38 X 90 X 695 mm in size;
- two bowstrings - 38 X 90 X 921 mm;
- one longitudinal lower and one upper beam - 38 X 90 X 1575 mm and 38 X 90 X 1473 mm, respectively;
- two pieces of braces 38 X 90 X 772 mm each;
- worktop blanks - seven pieces, 38 X 90 X 2337 mm;
- six support bars - 19 X 64 X 432 mm.
Tip: start work on a flat surface. It is imperative to observe the angles of joining parts. The blanks, which will later become the legs of our country table, should be cut on both sides at an angle of 10 °. The slices must be parallel. But the blanks of the bowstring, which are similarly cut at the same angle, should be cut one towards the other.
Stage 2. The legs of our country table should be attached to the transverse beams and fasten this entire structure with screws. There are two screws for each connection.
We screw the bowstring diagonally to the leg from the inside, in the same way fastening the structure with two screws.
The lower beam must connect both bowstrings to each other. As mentioned above, using screws.
Further, in the upper longitudinal and transverse beams, holes are first made for a fastener, called a dowel, and then again diagonally we connect the blanks of our country wooden table with the existing screws.
Tip: when connecting all the elements, use glue for extra strength. Remove excess immediately.

How to make a rectangular table for a summer residence
After developing a work plan and approving the blueprints for the dacha table, acquire all the materials needed for this project. Choose wood that is intended for outdoor use - pine, cedar, mahogany, or pressed wood. When buying, check each board: they must be perfectly level and free of any visible defects. Do not skimp on the quality of lumber, because your structure will have to withstand all weather adversities.
There are several important points that you must take into account if you want the result obtained to be of a high professional level. Do not forget about the accuracy of measurements and the use of a professional tool when cutting boards and bars and drilling holes. To increase the reliability of the structure, you can additionally use waterproof glue to hold the parts together. Round off open edges with a router or sandpaper.
Attention! Dimensions are converted from inch units and may not match metric units. Choose the lumber as close as possible. Or just customize it yourself.
Tools required for project implementation:
- hacksaw, jigsaw;
- milling cutter;
- drill and drill;
- chalk cord, tape measure, spirit level, pencil;
- safety glasses and gloves.

Tips:
- A router will help smooth the edges of wooden blocks and planks.
- Before screwing in screws and self-tapping screws, drill pilot holes in the wooden structural elements.
- The heads of the screwed-in self-tapping screws should not protrude above the wooden surface, and for this the entrance parts of the holes must be countersinked.
- Do not use cracked or warped lumber.
- Do not apply excessive force when tightening the screws, otherwise the wood may crack.
Diy picnic table. Step-by-step instruction
Materials:
- A - Legs: bars 5 × 10 cm, 106 cm long (2 pcs.), 43 cm long (2 pcs.) And 56 cm long (2 pcs.);
- B - Frame: bars 5 × 10 cm, length 87 cm (2 pcs.);
- C - Table top: boards 5 × 15 cm, 180 cm long (6 pcs.);
- D - The base of the table top: boards 5 × 15 cm, 87 cm long (2 pcs.), Bars 5 × 10 cm, 62 cm long (2 pcs.).
The first stage of the project is the manufacture of table legs. Saw off the blocks of the required size. You can use a circular saw to speed up the process. Smooth the edges of the sticks and sawed lines with sandpaper.
Connect the bars so that you get an X-shaped structure, and fasten them with 60 mm self-tapping screws, not forgetting to pre-drill the pilot holes. Lubricate the joints with glue. Make sure there are no gaps or gaps.
Fasten each pair of legs with a horizontal bar using 60 mm self-tapping screws for this purpose. Cut the ends of the bars as shown in the figure.
Lay the boards for the countertop on a flat surface. We advise you to place pieces of 6 mm plywood between them, this will allow you to form even gaps. Place the assembled table sides on the tabletop and fix them by screwing the self-tapping screws at an angle of 90 mm. Use a spirit level to make sure the legs and table top are square before fixing.
Place the sawn pieces of 5 × 15 cm boards on the underside of the tabletop and fix them with 60 mm self-tapping screws.
Saw off the ends of the bars, which will act as reinforcing struts, at an angle of 45º. Place the props in their place and secure with 90 mm self-tapping screws screwed in at an angle.
And finally, last but not least, check if the caps of the self-tapping screws protrude above the wooden surface, and fill all the cracks and holes with wood putty.
Tip: To protect wood surfaces from the damaging effects of atmospheric moisture, cover them with several coats of outdoor paint or stain.
Table with benches. Instruction with drawings
Materials:
- A - Legs: bars 5 × 10 cm, length 95 cm (4 pcs.);
- B - Bars: bars 5 × 10 cm long 160 cm (2 pcs.);
- C - Table top fixing: bars 5 × 10 cm, 75 cm long (5 pcs.);
- D - Inclined props: bars 5 × 10 cm, 84 cm long (2 pcs.);
- E - Table top: boards 5 × 10 cm, length 180 cm (14 pcs.).
It is worth starting work with the manufacture of legs. Since the legs of this table will be inclined, the ends of the 100 cm long bars should be cut off at an angle of 30º. Connect the elements with 90 mm bolts.
Make sure the surface you are working on is level enough. The mounted sides of the table must be identical, only in this case you can hope for an excellent end result.
When the sides of the table are ready, you can start making a wooden tabletop. We recommend that you hammer it together on the ground (floor), and then attach it to the legs with self-tapping screws.
Tip: Remember to use a spirit level to make sure the side walls of the table are vertical, otherwise the end result of your work is unlikely to satisfy.
Secure the entire structure rigidly with inclined struts. Their ends should first be cut at an angle of 26º.
Now all that remains is to build the benches. Saw off the boards of the required size, place them on both sides of the table and, having previously drilled several pilot holes at a distance of at least 1 cm from the edges, secure with self-tapping screws.
Tip: To distribute the seating planks evenly, place studs or plywood pieces between them before attaching. With this little trick, all the gaps will be the same.
At the end of the work, pay attention to the small, but very important touches. Fill all cracks and holes with wood putty. After the filler is dry, sand the wood surfaces with medium-grit sandpaper.
Tip: Be sure to apply several coats of paint or stain to protect the wood surfaces from water and sunlight.
Round table. We do in the country on our own
Materials:
- A - Base: 5 × 10 cm bar, 102.5 cm long (1 pc.) And 47 cm long (2 pcs.), 2.5 × 10 cm bars, 9 cm long (4 pcs.);
- B - Racks: bars 10 × 10 cm, length 60 cm (4 pcs.);
- C - Worktop base: 5 × 10 cm bars, 82.5 cm long (1 pc.) And 52.5 cm long (2 pcs.), 2.5 × 10 cm bars, 47.5 cm long (4 pcs.) And 60 cm long (2 pcs.) ;
- D - Table top: boards 2.5 × 15 cm, 195 cm long (9 pcs.).
The first stage of the project is to create the base of the table. Use waterproof glue and self-tapping screws to join its constituent elements. Make sure that the corners of the bars to be joined are straight. To protect the assembled table base from rotting under the influence of rainwater, place it on small stands made of 2.5 x 10 cm pieces of wood.
Now you need to attach to the base four posts made of square bars. Make sure they are vertical with a spirit level before fixing. The height of the legs may differ from that offered by us, in this case you should, first of all, be guided by your own needs.
The most difficult stage of the project is making the countertop. Place the boards on a flat surface and mark the center of the square. Attach one end of the 60 cm rail at this point. Rotate the other end of the staff to mark the outline of the circle. A jigsaw with a sharp blade will allow you to make a circular cut at a high professional level.
After sawing the boards of the future countertop, we recommend that you fasten them together with waterproof glue and additionally fix them with several clamps. Attach the bars that serve as the base of the countertop as shown in the figure (yellow elements should be made from 5 × 10 cm bars, green ones from 2.5 × 10 cm bars).
Tip: Use waterproof glue and galvanized self-tapping screws to fix the bars to the countertop (30 mm self-tapping screws for 2.5 × 10 cm bars and 50 mm for 5 × 10 cm bars).
After the glue has dried, you must attach the legs to the base of the tabletop using 90mm self-tapping screws, pre-drilling the pilot holes. Use a spirit level to control the perpendicularity of the legs and table top.
For the result of your work to correspond to a high professional level, make sure that the caps of the screws are sunk deep enough. Cover all cracks and holes with wood putty, after it dries, sand the surface with sandpaper.
Tip: Apply several coats of exterior paint or stain to protect the table from moisture breakdown. To keep the base coasters untouched by water, place the table on a concrete surface and seal them tightly.
Now you know how to make a picnic table yourself. One has only to make a little effort, which will subsequently be rewarded with enthusiastic exclamations from friends and pleasant summer evenings spent with the family at a large table.
As you know, a table is needed in every home. Currently, there are a very large number of different options in stores:
- dining;

Before proceeding directly to work, you should prepare some 
tools, as well as pick up the material. Let's take a closer look at these very important points. If you are planning to make a simple wooden table, then in this case it will be enough to have an ordinary carpentry set (planer, chisel) and several saws (bow, for veneer, tenoning, manual) and a hacksaw. More subtle work with fanciful shapes will require additional tools. This, in particular, an electric jigsaw, a grinder, a router. In order to facilitate the process of corner cutting, you will need a miter box.
It is also important to choose the right material. In the absence of serious work experience, it is better to take cheaper wood, since you will need some stock "just in case". For the manufacture of countertops, characteristics such as strength and moisture absorption are of particular importance. The best option here would be larch or pine at least 3 centimeters thick. However, if funds permit, the countertop can also be made of oak. For compact tables, wood-based slabs are quite suitable - OSB, chipboard, and so on.
Birch is best for making legs. The thing is that this wood has very good strength indicators at a relatively low price. 
However, it is imperative to take care of moisture resistance - we will talk about this below. The most optimal parameters for the legs are a 5 by 5 section and a length of about 76 centimeters. The dowels are best made from acacia. When choosing boards, be sure to examine them carefully. Those that have a wormhole, loose knots, cracks or rot should be discarded immediately.
The construction will not be strong without reliable fasteners. Therefore, their choice must also be approached with all responsibility. We will warn you right away - nails are not suitable in this case. Firstly, when using them, it is very difficult to put the leg strictly vertically. Secondly, the nail pricks dry wood easily, and for the manufacture of furniture you need to take just such. Thirdly, such a product will be very difficult to repair, because the dismantling of fasteners is almost always accompanied by damage to adjacent parts.
Therefore, for the manufacture of a wooden table, you need to use dowels, planted with glue, or self-tapping screws. If the design requires additional reinforcement, then the most optimal option would be corners, brackets, metal strips. If a collapsible design is planned, then it is better to connect it with drawers.
It should be noted that the table should be not only reliable, but also practical. Its appearance is also important. Therefore, these points should also be taken care of. In particular, it is possible to protect the table from rotting with the help of used machine oil. This tool is not only effective - you can also get hold of it for free. It's also a good idea to use a natural product - flaxseed oil. It protects the table well from mold and mildew. These are not all options. Acrylic varnishes or water-polymer emulsion will well protect your product.
Paint can be used to give the table an attractive look. Only when buying, specify that you intend to paint the wood. Stains are also a very common option. The choice of these funds is very wide today, so there will be no problems with the acquisition. Tables covered with tinted varnish look very nice. Generally speaking, you can give the table any shade. In this case, you can even carry out several experiments, taking some kind of rejected board.
The next step is to decide on the design of the table. It is simply impossible to describe in detail all the possible options here, so we will focus on the simplest one. We are talking about an ordinary stationary rectangular table. All parts here must be fixed rigidly - due to this, the required strength is achieved. You will need to make 3 main parts - a table top, an underframe and 4 legs. Previously, of course, you should decide on the size. If the table is small, then it is quite appropriate to take a solid tabletop by cutting it out of the OSB plate.
The underframe is a wooden frame. It is to her that we will attach the legs. The latter are easiest to make from a bar having a square section of the required size. That is, you only need to cut 4 legs of the required length. After that, it remains to connect all the elements of the table with each other. In the final step, take care of protecting the structure made with your own hands, and also give it the desired color. As you can see, there really is nothing complicated here.
Well, in conclusion, I would like to give some advice. In particular, if you plan to assemble on self-tapping screws, then you will first need to make holes in the tree with a slightly larger diameter drill. When using an abrasive, coarse is taken first, and then fine.
You need to be prepared for repeated sanding. Much depends on the type of wood and the quality of drying of the material. Chips and cracks can be easily removed with a putty. Wood dust after sanding is removed with a vacuum cleaner. After that, it is recommended to wipe the product with a damp cloth. Well, the most important advice is that you need to proceed to the manufacture of complex products only after you confidently cope with simple ones.
Due to the abundance of furniture offered, wooden tables and chairs remain popular everywhere. Natural materials ensure environmental friendliness, safety and durability of the models. Solid wood furniture can be found in any country house, apartment or office.

How to make a wooden table yourself?

Tools and materials required for manufacturing:
- plane;
- sander or paper;
- screwdriver with a set of bits;
- jigsaw or saw;
- chisel;
- means for staining and varnishing;
- metal corners;
- yardstick;
- building level;
- accessories for fastening (screws, bolts, screws);
- boards 40 or 50 mm thick;
- 4 bars for wooden table legs 50x50 mm;
- auxiliary boards 40 mm thick for fixing the table top.
Procedure (step by step instructions)
- Decide on the dimensions of the future homemade product. For table lengths exceeding standard values, at least four racks must be installed.
- Pre-trim the boards for the worktop and cut them to the required size.
- Place five boards in parallel, fasten them from below with self-tapping screws to the auxiliary transverse boards. Leave room for the table legs.
- Install the leg blocks with metal corners and secure them to the table top.
- To prevent distortion and stability of the legs, skip the perimeter planks under the table top. If the table has more than four legs, an additional cross bar must be reinforced in the middle.
- Sand the edges of the worktop from all sides with a sanding paper.
- Cover the product with pest control agents (stain) and, if desired, apply a layer of varnish.

Table 1. Sturdy and stable dining table for home
To make this table, we need tools such as a jigsaw, an electric drill, a screwdriver, a grinder. You can, of course, do without some of the above "helpers" by using a screwdriver and a bar with sandpaper attached to it - just such a replacement will increase the time and effort spent on making the table.
The material for the manufacture of the countertop is a grooved board, at least 30 mm thick. The tongue and groove ensures a tight connection of the boards, increasing the life of the table, since with this method of joining, the likelihood of food residues getting into the gaps between the boards is practically excluded.
For the manufacture of the rest of the table elements, an ordinary 50 mm board is taken.
- Boards, if they are not processed, must be well sanded - in addition to aesthetic considerations, elementary safety and practicality require this: a sanded board is easier to paint, and much less paint is required for such a surface;
- Cut table details:
- Grooved boards for worktops, 230 cm long - 6 pcs .;
- Spacer board about 170 cm long;
- Bars for fastening the countertop (their length should coincide with the width of the countertop, or be slightly smaller) - 4 pcs .;
- Bars for legs - 4 pcs., 2 pieces of board for their base.
To improve the appearance of the product, saw off the ends of the fastening bars at an angle of 45 degrees, carefully cut the tongue of the outer boards, and slightly round off the corners of the tabletop with a jigsaw.
Table 2. The simplest table for a summer residence or gazebo
Perhaps there is nothing easier than making this version of a table from boards with your own hands, shown in photo 5. Table dimensions: 1200x740 mm, height - 750 mm.
To make it you will need:
- Edged board, smoothly planed 40x140 mm;
- 2 bars 40x60x740 mm;
- 8 confirmations 70-75 mm long; self-tapping screws of various lengths;
- Chisel and plane;
- Electric jigsaw, drill with a special drill for confipmats, furniture key, grinder.
The first step is to assemble the countertop by fastening the boards with two transverse bars, placing them at a distance of 120 mm from both ends of the future countertop and using self-tapping screws up to 80-85 mm long (so as not to reach the outer surface of the countertop). If ordinary boards are used, it is better to leave small, only 10 mm, gaps of the same width between them in the manufacture of countertops: through slots will prevent food debris from contaminating the countertop without interfering with cleaning and without reducing its aesthetic appeal.
To achieve the same width of gaps in the countertop, during its assembly, it is necessary to lay between the boards a centimeter standard made of a strip or other solid material.
Second step: assembling the table legs. On a sheet of chipboard or plywood, draw a template - a rectangle with sides 600 mm (width) and 690 mm (length). First, we make one pair of legs, then, in the same way, the second: we lay the 2 boards on the template in an X-shape, mark the lines of the upper and lower cuts of the legs, as well as the lines of their intersection - in this place the boards will be fastened together. We saw off the ends of the boards along the outlined lines, and at the intersection with the chisel we select recesses 20 mm deep, for the “half-tree” connection. We fasten the legs with 35 mm self-tapping screws;
Third step - final assembly of the table. The drawing shows in detail how to make this simple table from boards: thanks to it, the assembly process will not cause difficulties (Figure 6).
A table is a piece of furniture that you can't do without in the city or in the country. The table can be placed on the veranda, in the gazebo or just in a shady place. Behind it you can dine, have a feast or play board games in the fresh air. Inexpensively you can buy only a small plastic table, a large wooden table for a summer residence is cheaper to do with your own hands. The article will present three options for tables and drawings for their manufacture.
Table dimensions and construction features
The optimal size of the table top for a summer cottage is 80x120 cm. A smaller table will be significantly inferior in functionality, a large table will be too bulky and will be difficult to clean for the winter. The size of the table 80x120 cm will allow you to hold solemn feasts with the number of participants from 8 to 10 people.
It is easiest to make a table for a summer residence from boards. Besides, it is the most accessible and inexpensive material. The advantage of making a table made of wood is that the boards can be cut to the desired size at any building base, and brought to the dacha without any problems, thereby saving on transportation. It should be noted that with a table size of 75x80x120 cm, the longest board will be a 120 cm long tabletop board. A board of this length will fit into almost any car.
There are a lot of varieties of table designs, but by and large the difference is only in the form of legs on which the tabletop rests. Therefore, the legs at the table are the most complex element of the entire structure.
Table top
The table top at the table in the country is made of boards. The thickness of the boards can be from 30 to 50 mm. However, the best option is a 40 mm board.
An important point is cutting the boards. With a tabletop length of 120 cm, you need 5.3 boards 150 mm wide, 6.6 boards 120 mm wide and 8 boards 100 mm wide. Considering that boards are sold with a length of just over 6 m, it is advisable to choose a board with a width of 100 mm for the tabletop.
Choosing a board with a width of 100 mm does not have to adjust or change the dimensions of the table top, which will greatly simplify the work on the table arrangement. In addition, there will be 2 more boards with a length of 120 mm, which can be used for other parts.
If you can't get the board you need, you can make the tabletop not solid, but at intervals. Such a tabletop will look no less interesting. In this case, water that can accumulate on a table with a solid table top will drain through the gaps between the boards.
Straight Legged Table
A table with straight legs is the simplest table design for giving. This is a stable, comfortable table that will work well both indoors and outdoors.

Table legs consist of 4 elements, 2 vertical posts and 2 horizontal ones. The upper horizontal post is attached to the table top, the lower one is the support.

The design of the legs can be different. For example, instead of resting on the bottom board, you can make the support on the vertical posts, and the bottom board can be made for additional strength.
Pay attention in this design, the connection of the boards is performed without additional grooves. This greatly simplifies the assembly of the table. In order for all the elements to be well fixed, it is necessary to glue all joints with wood glue. In this case, the boards can be connected with self-tapping screws.

- Collect the legs. To do this, you need to saw the boards according to the drawing. Treat the joints with glue and tighten with self-tapping screws or a confirmation.
- On a flat surface, lay out the boards for the table top, mark the position of the legs and fasten the boards of the table top through the upper bar of the legs.
- Install a horizontal brace between the legs.
- Wait 2 - 3 hours for the glue to dry and remove burrs and sharp edges from the table.
- Then the table can be varnished. Or just treat it with an antiseptic.
Table with X-shaped legs
A table with X-shaped legs is essentially not much different from a table with straight legs, it just has a different shape of the legs. However, it is impossible to make without creating additional grooves on the legs. This complicates the work somewhat.

Table legs consist of 3 elements. Two criss-cross legs and a vertical top bar. The top bar, as in the previous case, is necessary for fixing the table top.

The table assembly order is as follows:
- The boards are cut to the required length.
- A groove is made in the legs to the floor of the board. The groove can be made with a jigsaw or a router.
- Collect the legs. The connections are glued. The parts are fastened with self-tapping screws.
- The boards of the table top are laid out and the assembled legs are attached to them.
- Install the bottom screed board.
- Process the table from burrs and varnish.
Table with benches
A table with benches is often installed on verandas or in the open air. Unlike the structures described above, it does not require additional benches or chairs, benches are included in the design of the table.

The disadvantage of this version of the table at the dacha is that the design is rather cumbersome, and it becomes very problematic to remove it for the winter.

A feature of the table design is that the benches are fixed directly on the table legs. The crossbeams on which the benches are attached are at the same time the tie for the legs, and the benches play the role of a longitudinal tie.

- Cut the boards to the desired length.
- Assemble the legs and support for the bench flooring. The joints are glued and tightened with self-tapping screws.
- Mark the boards for the table top and mount them to the legs.
- Secure the benches.
