What is the nicest linoleum. How to choose linoleum - tips and tricks

The modern market offers a huge number of varieties, standard sizes and design options for PVC panels, so that they can be matched to any style of interior. PVC panels are inexpensive, quickly assembled, operate for a long time, and most importantly, they will help to equip a unique, unlike anything else room design. How to fix plastic panels to the wall: glue, self-tapping screws, lathing? Which panels to choose and which installation method to prefer, all these questions, we will analyze in detail in our article.

Why have PVC panels for bathroom furnishings become the number one competitor for tiles? It's all about ease of installation. Laying tiles, even on the most even base, is beyond the power of a person who has never done this. The services of a specialist will be required to level and strengthen the base, mark the wall and lay out the tiles row by row, observing the levels and width of the tile joint. In addition, cutting the tiles itself, if necessary, requires additional special tools and certain skills.

With PVC panels, everything is much easier. They have a lot of advantages:

  1. Lightweight: their transportation to home and installation does not cause any difficulties.
  2. Exists several mounting methods from simple wall stickers to battening systems that even the layman can handle.
  3. Panels biologically sustainable and during operation, the appearance of fungus on them is excluded.

In addition, it can be noted such advantages of plastic products as moisture resistance, hygiene, duration of operation and inexpensive cost... Of course, they also have their own characteristics. For example, despite the presence of stiffeners in the design of the product and a rather large thickness of plastic for some manufacturers, panels are quite fragile material and in the event of an accidental strong point impact, they can break. Therefore, when buying, you need to choose the most durable products from European manufacturers.

However, if the cladding is of good quality, then when bathing, for example, you can lean on it as much as you like: it has sufficient flexibility and elasticity to support the weight of a person.

When choosing products, you should look at technical characteristics such as:

  • the thickness of the plastic (the more, the more reliable);
  • the presence and number of stiffeners;
  • when looking at the front plane under artificial lighting, the transverse ribs should not be visible;
  • the surface should be intact, undamaged, not scratched, the film on the front plane should not be damaged;
  • plastic from the ends should not be with burrs and microcracks.

There are several varieties of PVC panels, differing in size and other parameters.

Table 1. Types of PVC panels.

NamePeculiaritiesDimensions (edit)
CeilingThinner up to 5 mm thick
WallThicker and stiffer up to 10 mmwidth 15-50 mm, length 90-300 mm
Rack and pinionNarrow strips with shaped edges, similar to lining, have a tongue-and-groove lockwidth 13-50 mm, length 90-300 mm
LeafyLarge rectangular sheets with a relief or pattern on the outsidewidth 50-122 mm, length 30-98 mm
TiledTilewidth 30-98 mm, length 30-98 mm
SandwichDouble-layer, with a heat-insulating layer, the thickness can be up to 4 cmwidth 90-150 mm, length 300 mm

In width, standard wall panels are most often found 25cm and 37cm, length - 2700cm, 3000cm... Different manufacturers can make products in different sizes. The difference in price depends on various factors: the quality and thickness of the plastic, the type of decor printing, its complexity, etc.

Polyvinyl chloride panels are divided into several types according to their coating. They are:

  • one-color;
  • colored, with a dye added to the mass;
  • mirrored;
  • with an image pasted on a thermal film;
  • with a pattern applied by offset;
  • with one image, spaced into several panels, forming a panel.

According to the method of joining, the products can be seamless and with a groove. Of course, when joining seamless panels, the seam is still visible, but unobtrusive. If the products are chamfered, then the seams are more prominent and create a certain geometry of the room.

In addition, a large selection of fittings for fastening elements is offered: starting and F-shaped profiles, inner and outer corners, joint profiles, skirting boards... The use of fittings allows you to give an aesthetic appearance to the joints, and of course is used for more reliable and simple fastening.

Mounting

To carry out the calculation, you first need to decide on the direction of installation. Products can be fixed and horizontally and vertically... Vertical placement is preferable for small spaces such as hallways, kitchens, baths. With this method of finishing, the ceiling visually rises due to the vertical lines. Horizontal installation is more often used to decorate spacious rooms, for example, in camp sites, in hostels. It resembles a traditional horizontal finish, especially if the panels are matched, for example, to imitate wood.

There are three ways to fix the panels:

  • on any adhesive;
  • on self-tapping screws;
  • on the crate.

The first method is the easiest, simplest and fastest, but it is used only if the base is sufficiently leveled. The second is also not particularly difficult, but requires skill in handling a screwdriver. In this case, the panels can be dismantled over time and moved to another place. The method of fastening to the crate is the most durable, labor-intensive and capital-intensive. This allows the cladding to be firmly mounted on uneven surfaces.

The selected mounting option does not in any way affect the sequence of measures when mounting the plates directly:

  • fittings are installed: starting and finishing strip, inner and outer corners;
  • fittings are installed along the openings;
  • the panel is inserted with a narrow shelf into the fastening element. Fastened from the side of the wide shelf with self-tapping screws. Elements must be mounted tightly;
  • the finishing panel must be squeezed between the one in front of it and the finishing element of the row. The excess can be cut neatly along with a knife;
  • joints with the ceiling are covered with ceiling, joints with the floor - with floor plinths.

How to glue panels

Bonding - the easiest way finishing the room with panels, which is allowed or in the event that when the wall is perfectly flat or when the renovation of the rented premises is carried out according to the principle and so it will come down, clean and fine. It will be quite difficult to dismantle such a finish in the future, and it certainly will not be possible to use it for re-installation.

The panels are glued on an even or slightly uneven base. Previously, to improve adhesion, it is necessary to remove and smooth out all irregularities and weak layers of the previous finish. Then plaster and putty on uneven places. Then prime the surface to improve adhesion. The finished base for gluing the cladding must be even, dry and clean.

Apply the adhesive to the wall, spread it evenly with a notched trowel and gently press the panel against the wall. The duration and force of pressing usually depend on the glue and are indicated on the packaging or in the instructions for use. Apply glue to the next panel, then it should be carefully docked with the previous one and pressed to the base. Thus, you can quickly get a beautiful decorative coating.

As for the glue for panels, modern manufacturers offer just a huge selection of adhesives. The most popular ones can be listed:

  • Quality liquid nails;
  • liquid nails and Titan Wild glue;
  • Emficol 34012A;
  • Kleiberit 636.

Liquid nail prices

Liquid Nails

The above adhesives are resistant to high humidity and temperature fluctuations. The facing materials glued to them will hold for the entire period of operation.

Advice! If you have a choice, it is better to choose the adhesives that set the fastest - for example, liquid nails. Then you don't have to wait a while until the first panel grabs to start gluing the second one.

Installation of PVC panels on self-tapping screws

This mounting method also implies the presence of a sufficiently leveled base... Although the requirements for the surface condition are less than when working with glue. No need to remove greasy stains from the wall and treat it with a primer to increase adhesion. However, to improve the quality of work and increase the speed of installation, you will need a screwdriver. However, today screwdrivers can be bought even for one and a half thousand rubles, so this method of installation can be called quite budgetary.

As for self-tapping screws, you can opt for self-tapping screws for wood with a wide notch. Length 16 mm will provide normal fixation to the wall. If finishing is planned bathroom, you should opt for galvanized, which will not rust during operation. Do not choose screws with a wide head, it can interfere with joining.

The process itself is extremely simple. From the inside, the screws are screwed into the bottom of the lock, where they will not interfere with the fixation of the next panel. The next strip is inserted into the lock, pressed and fastened with self-tapping screws from the inside. All subsequent parts are fastened in the same way.

Attention! Be sure to check where the wiring goes in the wall. To do this, you can use such inexpensive devices as screwdrivers, indicators, alarms or metal detectors.

How to fix panels to an uneven wall on a crate - step by step instructions

If the wall is very uneven, and the stay in the apartment is supposed to be long, you cannot do without the crate. There are 3 types of battens: wood, metal and plastic. Wooden is an option for the most extreme case. The tree is not suitable for the bathroom - it will swell from moisture, for the same reason, you should not use it on the loggia. Therefore, the best option is galvanized profiles for gypsum boards with a width 40mm.

The only drawback of the traditional lathing fastening is that it eats 3-4 cm of usable area at each wall... But under it, you can lay communication cables, as well as make a sound-insulating layer in the apartment or heat-insulating - on the loggia.

A good variety of a convenient and easy-to-assemble lathing system is plastic mounting strips and cleats. This is a special fastening system designed for PVC cladding. Fastening is carried out as quickly and simply as possible: the plate snaps into the groove on the profile with clamps. No other hardware is used. If necessary, such a finish can be instantly disassembled: just pry it off with a screwdriver. Installation of the entire cladding in a 15-square room with such a system will take no more than a day.

The advantages of plastic sheathing are obvious. Firstly, in case of damage to one panel, it can be pulled out and replaced, and for this no need to disassemble the entire structure... Secondly, if the house shrinks, or if it is a country house, as well as during seasonal shifts the cladding will retain its solidity... Thirdly, such a crate eats only 1 centimeter from every wall.

For bathrooms and kitchens, the best option is a ready-made plastic lathing system sold in construction departments. It does not deform due to high humidity and temperature fluctuations, does not rot or crack. Galvanizing is also an excellent solution to the problem. It is permissible to use wood blocks, but before starting work, they must be treated several times with special impregnations from decay.

Let's take a step-by-step look at how to mount the crate:

Step 1. We clean the wall from crumbling old finishes. You don't need to align it.

Step 2. We treat the surface of the wall with antifungal compounds.

Step 3. We mark the places for the battens of the lathing structure. They should be positioned perpendicular to the PVC panels. If they are mounted vertically, the lathing is mounted horizontally. The distance of the planks should be 30-35 cm.

Step 4. We fasten the blocks at the beginning and at the end of the wall, around openings, niches and other structural elements of the room. Then the rest. The entire system is attached to the dowels. V concrete put 6 * 40mm, v brick 6 * 60mm with a step of about 60cm.

Step 5. We align the crate with a plumb line in one plane. To do this, at first, the fasteners are not completely tightened, and if necessary, thin plywood is pushed under the strips to the required level. After alignment, the fasteners can be retightened. For attachment, you can use plasterboard suspensions. With them, it is easier to level the surface of the crate.

Step 6. If the system is assembled from plastic elements, it is necessary to check their perpendicularity to the PVC panels, otherwise there is a risk that the locks will not snap into place. It will be more convenient to work with a plastic crate if you install wooden bars along the perimeter of the entire wall to be trimmed along the thickness of the guides.

Building levels

Now you can see how the panels are attached to the crate:

  1. Starter and ceiling skirting boards are installed and attached with appropriate fasteners to the system... The result is a frame. It is necessary to strictly check the verticality and horizontalness of this frame, and then the facing plane in terms of level, since even a millimeter deviation can cause a blockage in the future.
  2. Elements are cut to length with a hacksaw... At the first panel, a protruding thorn is cut off, then the cut side is inserted into the corner, and the edges are tucked into the profiles. The bar is driven to the stop and fixed to each cross member.
  3. Subsequent panels are joined.
  4. The latter is trimmed to the width and inserted into the profiles.

Video - Installation of PVC panels on the crate

Note! Some craftsmen prefer to work without corner profiles. The panel that fits into the corner can be trimmed from the back and gently bent so as not to break. This usually succeeds the first time, since the plastic used for the manufacture of panels is quite flexible and elastic. From the front side, such a fold will look nice and neat.

Features of fastening in different rooms

Pay attention to the article - where we examined interesting options for installing panels in the restroom.

The following features of the finishing device in different rooms can be distinguished:

  1. In the bathroom and on high humidity and temperature fluctuations often occur, so it is better to take a lathing system from a plastic or stainless steel. If the wall is without special bumps and pits, you can glue the cladding on liquid nails or even foam. Mounting on self-tapping screws (also made of stainless steel) is permissible.
  2. For finishing loggias or balconies it is better to take sandwich panels and lay them on a crate, under which a layer of thermal insulation can be placed.
  3. For finishing living rooms take decorative panels with patterns, drawings or with a 3D effect. Installation should be carried out taking into account the condition of the walls. If there are a lot of wires in the room, it is better to use a crate behind which they can be hidden. In the rooms, you can arrange a more economical wooden crate, since the humidity drops are small here.
  4. For finishing rooms of country houses used only in the season, as well as terraces and verandas, you should use any crate, except for wood, since in an unheated period they can increase humidity.
  5. In addition, the panels are used for finishing administrative premises, offices, trade departments and supermarkets.

Plastic panels (lining) are used for interior decoration of houses and apartments. They are actively used to give the desired appearance to various rooms, such as balconies, bathrooms, baths, shops, offices. Do-it-yourself installation of PVC wall panels is a simple matter that will be within the power of anyone who has a desire to make repairs on their own.

First of all, you should decide what is hidden behind the PVC abbreviation. There is nothing difficult and scary in this. Under the three letters is a simple one - polyvinyl chloride, and if it's even simpler, then this is a kind of plastic. It has many advantages that are successfully used in the manufacture of finishing materials.

Wall PVC panels

For greater persuasiveness, you should list the positive qualities that PVC panels have. So:

  1. The technical characteristics of this product allows them to be used in rooms that are exposed to moisture. This material is absolutely not subject to decay, does not absorb water. The only thing that can reduce the effectiveness of the use of plastic panels is improper use of the frame.
  2. If you have sufficiently flat surfaces, you can not do additional wall decoration. Installation of PVC wall panels does not require much effort and time.
  3. They can retain their appearance for a long time. Namely, do not burn out under the influence of sunlight, do not absorb various vapors. To clean them, no special tricks are required - just wash the products with soapy water and wipe them dry.
  4. If a frame is used, then additional sound insulation is created. This is achieved with an air cushion between the wall and the panels. If desired, this space can be used for additional insulation of the room, as well as for hiding communications.
  5. Quite low cost of this material in comparison with other types. Do not think that such an attractive price category strongly affects the quality of the product. Naturally, if you buy panels that have neither factory packaging nor certificates, then you can run into a cheap fake.
  6. Long service life. Yes, such a lining can serve for many years. The only thing they are afraid of is temperature changes. From this, the panels can become unusable. You should also pay attention to mechanical stress that can damage the integrity of the structure.

PVC panels are very popular due to their low price, as well as many other advantages.

It becomes clear that this product can be used in different cases. Of course, it is best to avoid installing panels when making renovations in nurseries and bedrooms.

Material selection

Any hardware store has a large selection of plastic panels. They can be of various sizes, colors and textures. Modern technologies make it possible to obtain such products that can give a certain elegance to any interior.

Plastic panels are a great alternative to ceramic tiles for bathroom decoration, but subject to the right choice of material

What they pay attention to when choosing such a material:

  • The panels are quite light, but you should be alert if the weight is too small. This may indicate that there is a fake. Unfortunately, this is found even in large specialized stores.
  • There should be no imperfections on the front and on the seamy side. Namely, any cracks, chips, color irregularities immediately indicate that the product is of poor quality.
  • When choosing PVC panels, you need to pay attention to the release date of different packages. It is better to select those that have the same marking. Otherwise, significant variation may occur.

On a note! When choosing PVC products, do not hesitate to ask the seller for all the necessary documents. This is a guarantee of safety and a long service life of the material.

Various ways of installing wall panels

To carry out work on the repair or decoration of a room with plastic PVC panels, there are two main options.

1. Installation of the frame.

This is the simplest option. Various materials are used for its implementation. The following can be distinguished:

  • Wooden bar. Great for many areas, but cannot be used in humid areas.
  • Plastic strips. These are specially designed products that allow you to quickly mount panels.
  • Metallic profile. The same option is used that allows you to install sheets of gypsum board. But this method is quite expensive, although very reliable. Best used for ceilings.

2. Installation of panels without lathing.

Installation of panels directly on the wall

This method requires some skill and fairly flat walls. But, if you understand how this process takes place, then the skills come quickly enough. There is a significant drawback - if one of the elements becomes unusable, you will have to break the entire wall.

Each of the options is selected individually. It is necessary to take into account the size of the room, its disadvantages and climatic features.

Preparation phase

It is produced using a common tool that can be found in almost every home owner.

You will need the following:

  • tape measure and level;
  • pencil and meter ruler;
  • drills and screwdriver;
  • screws (nails) and dowels;
  • stapler;
  • jigsaw (saw).

Do not forget that you will also need consumables. First of all, these are drills, bits, files and staples. It is better to prepare everything in advance, then the repair time will be significantly reduced.

Do-it-yourself installation of wall panels should not be carried out immediately after purchase, you need to give time so that they adapt to the conditions of the room. To do this, they are unpacked and allowed to rest. Better to take a day for this.

On a note! If, during the repair, the installation of plastic panels is planned without using a frame, then the surface is pre-primed. To do this, use solutions that are selected based on the material of the walls.

Making a frame

As already noted, the crate can be of several types. In principle, they are all similar in terms of their installation conditions. The installed frame allows you to correct significant irregularities and imperfections in the walls. And also create an additional layer of thermal insulation and hide numerous communications.

On a note! It should be borne in mind that the distance between the guides should be from 30 to 45 cm.

Installation of plastic elements

After installing the frame, you can proceed with the installation of cladding products. Do-it-yourself installation of PVC panels is carried out according to the following scheme (consider using a wooden frame as an example):

VIDEO: Installation of panels on the crate

Installing wall panels on the frame is easy. In the absence of a lathing, everything is done with glue, which is applied to the finishing element. The main thing is to do everything quickly and do not forget that it will be extremely difficult to fix the shortcomings.

PVC panels are a modern building material for indoor cladding. It consists of polyvinyl chloride and elastic additives that give the product flexibility and strength at the same time. This article discusses the following questions: how to fix PVC panels to the wall, and do-it-yourself options for doing such work.

Panel mounting methods

Wall cladding with PVC panels can be carried out using several technologies, this, first of all, depends on the type of wall, the quality of its finishing and the functional load that the structure bears. These types of fasteners for PVC panels include:

  1. Fastening products to wooden blocks that are fixed to the wall. This installation method is suitable for craftsmen who want to save on building material, since wood is much cheaper than any other part. In addition, it is much easier to attach the panel to the tree; it is enough to use screws with a sharp end. The construction of the lathing itself is assembled by twisting the bars with self-tapping screws to the wall through the hangers;
  2. Fastening wall panels to the lathing made using a metal profile. The structure of the frame is similar to a wooden one, the difference is that for a more accurate result, the bearing profile is inserted into the starting guide, which is fixed at the beginning of each wall;
  3. Fixing panels directly to the wall plane by gluing it with assembly glue or liquid nails. Installation of PVC panels in the bathroom directly on the wall without wooden guides is carried out only in cases when there is no doubt about the evenness of the coating, and when it corresponds to the zero level. This factor greatly affects the quality and result of the work, since on an uneven wall, PVC panels will have bumps and irregularities, and their locks will not exactly adjoin each other, therefore specialists rarely use the method of laying products without crate.

The panels themselves come in different sizes, so you need to choose how to fix them based on this indicator. Also, when making such a decision, it is necessary to take into account the humidity in the room, since the wooden block absorbs moisture well and can rot from its excess, in such rooms it is necessary to use the installation method on metal profiles.

Types of fastening of PVC panels

How do you fix the wall panels to the lathing or directly to the wall? There are many devices that securely fix the product to the base, these include:

  1. Self-tapping screws with a flat head. With their help, the panel is fixed on a wooden or metal frame, the screw is twisted into the flat part of the lock connection, and subsequent panels will hide its head;
  2. Installation of PVC panels using a metal bracket, which is mounted with a special stapler. This device shoots out the clamp due to the pressure of the spring, but it should be borne in mind that the bracket can only enter a wooden block, it is most likely deformed against the guide profile;

  1. Special fastening clamps. With the help of them, mainly small-sized MDF or PVC panels are mounted, with a thick lock joint. These parts are fastened by clamping at the edge of the tail and screwed with the base to the profile or bar;
  2. Liquid nails or cement-based adhesive. To fix the product with this method, there is no need to build a wooden or metal frame, it is enough to level the surface so that the attached PVC wall panels do not have gaps or gaps along the entire length;
  3. The panels can be installed to the wall using double-sided tape, which is first glued to the surface of the base, and then, after release from the protective film, the product itself is mounted. Best of all, for secure fixation with this method, an adhesive tape 60 millimeters wide and wide is suitable.

Regardless of which type of panel assembly for interior decoration is chosen, all work must be performed strictly in compliance with the technology and basic construction rules. Before starting the repair, you should mark the wall and determine the attachment points of the frame or the place where the starting profile will be located.

Most often, a start and finish bar is used to mask the joints and cuts of the panel, as well as to process the inner and outer corners. This plastic part, which is installed around the entire perimeter of the wall, has a U-shape. The end of the panel is inserted into it so that the decorative part covers the factory cut of the part or the lock part adjacent to the wall. It is necessary to lay the product in the seat simultaneously over the entire width in order to prevent cracking of the part and chipping of small parts. The panel fixed in this way holds much stronger, moreover, it does not have free corners for which it would be possible to accidentally rip it out of place.

Fastening panels to the wall without lathing

How to properly attach the product to a pre-leveled base? If a decision is made to glue the panels to the walls with a building mixture for ceramic tiles, then all work must be carried out based on the following algorithm:

  1. At the first stage, you need to prime the surface with a special liquid that will wash away dust and dirt, and also strengthen the upper layers of the putty;
  2. Next, you need to level all the pits on the surface with plaster or cement putty, this can be done using metal beacons or millet with a spatula. Also, all corners should be equal to 90 degrees so that there is no delamination at the end joints;
  3. Starting strips for PVC are installed on the ceiling and on the floor, they can be fixed with self-tapping screws or put on glue. In the corners, if necessary, special connecting plinths with the same seat as the starting profile are glued;
  4. After framing the walls with planks, you can begin to mount the decorative panels. Experts recommend first installing those products that are located from the entrance to the room, this technique will hide possible defects in the assembly. The first panel along its entire length is inserted into the corner plinth with the back of the lock; for a tighter fit, you can cut off the plastic, thereby dropping the surface;
  5. Having tried on the first panel in place, it must be removed and prepared for gluing. If liquid nails are used, then they are applied to the product itself over the entire area. When using tile adhesive, the mixture is applied to the wall in a thin layer. It must be laid with a ribbed spatula with fine teeth, the panel itself does not need to be greased with glue;
  6. Installation of the first product in the starting profile and securing it against the wall. All movements must be carried out smoothly and gently so as not to damage the fragile plastic. It is necessary to press the panel for several minutes until the edges of the squeezed out glue dry, after which the next part is inserted. If the installation takes place on a plaster wall, then you can additionally tighten the lock with a screw with a rare thread and a flat head. This must be done taking into account that subsequent panels hide these screws;
  7. The last panel must be cut to size so that it fits completely into the finishing strip and the cut edge is invisible. From above and below, the joint is closed with the same profiles, for this the edge of the guide is bent and a metal ruler is straightened over the cut. During gluing, it is necessary to ensure that the panel fits snugly to the wall, without gaps and holes, otherwise, after the glue dries, the plane will be uneven in this place;
  8. The outer corners can also be finished with a special skirting board or overhead corner, which is glued after all the work is completed at the final stage.

Thus, following the proposed algorithm, you can do the installation of plastic panels on the wall with your own hands without the involvement of professionals. Since there is no special glue for the panels, you can use any mixtures that do not corrode plastic and dry quickly.

Scopes of PVC panels

The listed methods of fastening these products make it possible to choose the most advantageous method for a particular place, which is optimal and will securely fix the panels on the surface. Most often, a frameless option is chosen for repairs in a bathroom or a toilet, since these rooms already have a small square, in order to save space, they try to press the panels close to the walls. Attached products without lathing form a single whole with the wall surface and, even when pressed, do not deform or bend. An example of brackets of the clamp type is shown in the figure below.

Sometimes plastic panels are used as partitions, for example, in the shower sector, but in this case, the construction of the lathing is a prerequisite, since the product itself does not have sufficient rigidity. When fixing the frame with the starting profile and the panel itself fixed on it, you can choose any thickness of the partition, depending on the problem being solved.

Thus, with the correct assembly of PVC panels on the wall or crate, an excellent result can be achieved, in addition, all the work is done by hand, and the question of how to fix the products on the wall has many solutions that are suitable for any occasion.

The popularity of PVC panels in construction is due to quite weighty reasons. Their decorative possibilities are attractive, consisting in a variety of shades, patterns and textures, low cost, simple installation, which the owner of a house or apartment can do with his own hands. Installation of PVC wall panels will allow you to forget about the need for cosmetic repairs for a long time - compliance with the operating rules will allow them to maintain an attractive appearance for a long period.

Where are PVC panels used?

Given the modern approach to finishing materials, it is somewhat difficult to imagine that plastic wall panels will be used to decorate a bedroom or living room, but in the corridor, in the kitchen, in the bathroom or on the veranda, they sometimes turn out to be simply irreplaceable. They are also often used for decoration of public and office premises.

The variety of external styles of the PVC panel models allows them to be used in the decoration of rooms in any style, and the moisture-resistant properties make them the ideal, hygienic-approved finishes for bathrooms and toilets. An equally valuable property of the panels is considered their ability to withstand the loads created when the apartment is flooded by residents living on higher floors. Even in the event of a serious accident, the panels will not have to be replaced with new ones - they will easily be cleaned of dirt and will take on their original appearance after drying.

Using wall panels for the kitchen, where fat and soot can settle, it will be enough to periodically wipe the PVC material with warm water and ordinary detergents.

Mold, fungi and bacteria cannot grow on the surface of the material.

Dimensions of PVC wall panels

Firstly, all manufactured panels can be divided in thickness into 5 mm and 8-10 mm. Sheets with a width of 100 mm usually have a length of 3 m, if the width of a sheet is from 200 to 370 mm, then its length can be 2.6 m, 2.7 m, 3.0 m.

By design, the lining with a width of 100 mm may differ in the width of the lock - for the "European" it is narrower, for the "polka" it is wider. The lining with a width of 12.5 cm has a double profile, it is quite rare on sale.

The panel material differs from the lining by the absence of connecting seams, the width of the panel can fluctuate within 15 - 50 cm.

Preparation for work

As already mentioned, a particularly thorough preparation of the walls before installation work is not required. But you should measure the surfaces that will be sheathed with maximum accuracy and correctly calculate the amount of material for their sheathing.

In addition, you will need to decide how the installation will be performed - if the walls and ceiling in the room turn out to be perfectly flat, then they can simply be pasted over with panels. But if the task is to give the room ideal parameters, then you should take care of installing the frame, the main advantage of this option is the ability to give the room an aesthetic look by hiding all engineering communications under the surface of the paneling.

When performing work, you will need to use the following tools:

  • comfortable stepladder,
  • drill or hammer drill,
  • a hacksaw for metal,
  • tape measure and level,
  • painting knife
  • hammer,
  • self-tapping screws.

It is recommended to save them in advance, otherwise it will not be possible to assemble them accurately and efficiently. Having collected everything you need, you can start marking. For the ceiling, PVC panels with a width of 100 mm are usually used, the so-called. lining. The marking of the lines for mounting the profile should be carried out every 0.4 m. First, the lowest point on the ceiling is determined, from which marks are made corresponding to the width of the panel. Then, using a level around the perimeter of the room, marks are made at the points where the anchor or dowels will be attached with which the frame will be attached to the walls or ceiling.

The supporting frame profiles must be fastened perpendicularly to the PVC boards attached to them. To simplify the marking process, experts recommend using a thin cord in addition to placing marks and level. Rub it with crayon, press the ends against the wall to be marked - a colored trace will remain along its entire length.

How to assemble the frame correctly

The quality of the finish will depend on the correct assembly of the frame, which is a connection of profiles. Different materials can be used as a profile:

  • wood,
  • plastic crate,
  • metal.

Naturally, each of them has its own advantages, which determine the rationality of using the material in certain conditions. A frame made of wood, for example, is recommended to be used in rooms with normal air humidity, if this option is acceptable in a kitchen, then its use in a bathroom or on a balcony is unlikely to be advisable. In any case, using natural and environmentally friendly wood material, you will need to process it with a high-quality impregnation that protects against moisture penetration and the development of fungi.

When installing a wooden frame, the beams are fastened every 0.6 m, with dowels or impact screws. If you want to give the boards the desired level, use a lining. In terms of its characteristics, the wooden frame is somewhat inferior to plastic or metal structures.

The use of U-shaped plastic profiles allows you to take advantage of the following advantages:

  • low cost,
  • light weight,
  • simplicity of fastening work,
  • the ability to withstand moisture, steam, temperature extremes.

The installation of the profile is carried out every 0.3 m, respectively, of the previously drawn lines. Fastening dowels or self-tapping screws used during installation are installed after 1 m. The profile is joined at an angle, it is necessary to control so that the joints are smooth, with well-adjoining surfaces of the profiles.

As an advantage, we can note the possibility of using profile grooves for laying an electric cable.

PVC wall panels are lightweight and do not require a particularly strong frame. If, nevertheless, it is decided to mount a metal crate, then the cable will have to be laid in special corrugated PVC pipes - this will exclude the possibility of damage to the power cable sheath with the sharp edges of the frame profile.

Basic rules for installing plastic profiles and panels

When installing a PVC profile, you should adhere to the following rules:

  • installation should be started after the material has been adapted to the room temperature, especially if it was stored in a room with a temperature below +10 C,
  • the lamellas should be placed perpendicular to the direction of the frame rails,
  • if there is high humidity in the room, then ventilation cuts are made in the frame,
  • do not forget about the need for 5 mm expansion gaps, taking into account the possibility of changing material parameters with increasing temperature,
  • installation of panels without a pattern is performed arbitrarily, if there is a pattern on the surface - work begins from the left corner and moves to the right,
  • it is impossible to plan the installation of PVC structures and use them as decoration in rooms with temperatures above +40 C, such as baths or steam rooms.

Installation procedure

ceiling

You can proceed directly to the installation of panels after the completion of work on the construction of the frame. Installation begins with the extreme strip, it is attached in the corner itself, to the transverse profile with self-tapping screws. Each next panel will be inserted into the groove of the previous one. The procedure will be repeated until the finish reaches the opposite wall. If necessary, the last panel is trimmed to the width. But you can do another way: unfold the panel so that the fastening lock is on the other side, then cut the groove from the side.

Since the material is fragile, then the use of sharp external influences on it can lead to the appearance of cracks on the surface, it will not be possible to eliminate them.

When applying panels during installation, do not apply special forces to them. If necessary, a clerical knife can be used as an improvised tool, the edges of the plastic panels can be guided using its narrow blade.

After completing the installation of the last panel, you can start installing the skirting board. To fix it, liquid nails are used, they are applied to the inside. Then the plinth is firmly pressed against the finished ceiling surface and held for 10 seconds. The remaining glue is carefully removed.

Since liquid nails harden very quickly, you should hurry up with the removal of sagging.

wall decoration

Using PVC wall panels for a bathroom or toilet, the owners of a house or apartment have the opportunity to quickly equip a practical and fairly comfortable interior in sanitary facilities. The process of wall decoration has almost the same technology that is used for the installation of the ceiling.

A frame made of plastic or a metal profile is mounted on the wall treated with an antifungal primer. The installation of the first panel is carried out by inserting it together with the corner into the profile, the subsequent ones are inserted into the grooves of the previous ones and fixed on metal guides using cleats. The last panel on the wall is installed in a U-shaped corner and, together with it, is attached to the frame. Next, work is carried out to install the corners.

Some difficulties may arise when performing installation work on the walls, where the installation of switches and sockets is required. In this case, before installing the finishing boards, the ducts should be installed and the electrical cable laid. When installing the panels, you will need to cut holes of the appropriate size in the marked places for installing the sockets.

  1. When buying PVC boards, you should make sure that there are no curved transverse stripes on them, the color of the material should be uniform, and there should not be any physical imperfections on the surface. It is good if the surface of the panels is protected with a special film.
  2. The purchased panels must have the same shade or monochrome pattern, they must not have areas with a blurred pattern or poor-quality painting.
  3. Make sure that there are a sufficient number of stiffeners inside the panel - a large number of them can ensure the strength of the material and resistance to pressure loads.
  4. When trying to connect the panels, no gaps should form; the surface at the junction should look like a monolith.
  5. You should not purchase materials that give a different opening at the joint - at one end of the seam it can be 1 mm, at the other - up to 4 mm.
  6. Refrain from buying panels on the surface of which there are waves and stiffening ribs are visible - this is evidence of poor quality.
  7. It is not recommended to buy additional material from another batch, even if the article is the same.

PVC panels (polyvinyl chloride) - a material for surface finishing used in the interior of bathrooms and toilets, kitchens, hallways, balconies. Its popularity is due to the cheapness and simplicity of cladding - wall cladding with plastic panels is available even to a non-professional.

Polyvinyl chloride is resistant to moisture, temperature extremes and aggressive cleaning agents. The material is flexible enough and suitable, unlike MDF panels, for finishing arched openings.

In addition to the variety of colors, patterns and textures, plastic panels are divided into ceiling and wall (more rigid). The width of the plastic material is determined by the following standards:

  • sheet (800-2003 mm);
  • lamella with tongue-and-groove lock (100-125 mm);
  • panel without lock (250-500 mm).

All panels have internal stiffening ribs that form cells, which provide good moisture and sound insulation.

The strength of the plastic panel must be checked by pressing a finger - if a trace of deflection remains on the surface, then this plastic will not last long.

You should refuse to buy PVC panels if: there are scratches, cracks on the surface; the color tones inside the package differ; the drawing is not clearly printed; damage, distortion of stiffeners is observed.

The process of installing plastic panels on the walls with your own hands

In rooms with high humidity, the seams between the panels are rubbed with a sealant using a spatula. It is recommended to add an antiseptic to the mixture to prevent the formation of fungal mold.

Preparation of the base

Wall decoration with plastic material is possible with or without preliminary installation of the lathing. The latter method will require careful alignment of the geometry of the walls.

In both cases, the walls must be cleaned of the previous finish, filled with gaps, treated with an antiseptic against fungi. Thus, mold will not grow under the new finish, and a healthy microclimate will remain in the room.

Markup

Since the frame should be without distortions, preliminary markup is needed:

  1. Make a mark above the floor at a distance of 2 centimeters, draw a horizontal line using a level along the length of the walls of the room to be trimmed.
  2. Also draw a line 2 cm below the ceiling.
  3. From the lower horizontal to the upper, put marks (beacons) every 35-45 cm. Draw horizontals from them - they should be parallel.

If the panels will be mounted horizontally, then the markings must be done perpendicular to them - vertically. The initial line is drawn from the ceiling to the floor, leveling with a plumb line, the next one - in the second corner of the wall being trimmed. Vertical lines are drawn between them every half a meter.

If the panels will be mounted horizontally, then the markings must be done perpendicular to them - vertically.

Sheathing device

For lathing for plastic panels, wooden slats, metal or plastic profiles are used.

On the previously marked lines with a distance of 50-60 centimeters, holes are drilled, dowels are driven in. The slats of the wooden crate are primed with an antifungal antiseptic, then fixed on the wall with self-tapping screws. The unevenness of the walls under the slats is filled with wooden wedges.

Wooden battens are primed with an antifungal antiseptic.

In rooms with a high percentage of humidity, a crate made of galvanized metal is mounted. At the corners, along the ceiling, floor, set the initial profile. The guides are inserted into it, to which the PVC panels are attached. The metal lathing is durable, withstanding panels of any weight.

Plastic lathing is designed specifically for the installation of PVC panels. It is mounted in the same way as a metal one. The plastic construction provides grooves for the clips fixing the panels. Snap-on fasteners speed up the cladding process and also make it easier to dismantle. The locking fastener technology ensures that there is no necessary click when the panels are incorrectly installed. In this case, the design needs to be redone.

The wiring must not protrude above the frame. It must be attached to the wall with clamps, after making measurements and drilling holes.

The base part of the split ceiling plinth is installed during the installation of the battens. The cornice part is fastened with self-tapping screws in the same way as the frame elements - with strict horizontal alignment. If the interior of the room involves the canopy of cabinets, mirrors, etc., then at these points wooden blocks of the same thickness with the crate should be embedded.

Calculation of the material for the frame lathing:

  1. Measure the height from floor to ceiling. Calculate the number of tiers of the frame.
  2. Multiply the perimeter of the room by the number of tiers of the sheathing.
  3. Divide the resulting number by the length of one frame profile, round up.

Example

  1. It is necessary to tile the room 3.8 × 5 m, the height of the walls - 2.7 m. The number of battens is 7.
  2. The perimeter of the room 19. Multiply by 7 = 133 m - the length of all battens.
  3. The length of the selected profile for the lathing is 3 m. 133: 3 = 44.33≈50 units of lathing material.

The wiring must not protrude above the frame.

Installation process of plastic panels

Frame installation:

  1. Install internal panel profiles in the corners of the room. Pre-cut the PVC corner element in height and attach it to the frame using the selected method (liquid nails, stapler, etc.).
  2. The first finishing panel is installed in the corner farthest from the entrance. Bring the comb of the lamella under the corner profile, push it in. Make sure with the help of a level that it is strictly vertical. Fix the lamella on the wooden lathing with staples (on metal - with self-tapping screws), installing the fasteners in the area of the free ridge.
  3. Mount the rest of the slats in the same way, reaching the second corner of the wall.
  4. Measure the width of the remaining gap. Saw off the extra centimeters of the lamella. Bring it under the corner profile, then push it into the groove of the previous panel. You do not need to fix it.
  5. After covering all walls, install external panel corner profiles, cornices, skirting boards, plugs.

The ridges of the lamellas can be lubricated with silicone before installation - this will ensure their tight joint.

The first finishing panel is installed in the corner farthest from the entrance.

Adhesive mounting

If the walls have a clear geometry, then the frame under the PVC panels can be omitted. It is enough to measure the walls with a level and putty the irregularities.

  1. Clean the surface of the walls from the previous finish.
  2. Cover with antibacterial primer or filler. This will protect against mold, mildew, and more. Allow to dry.
  3. Prepare an adhesive solution. The composition of the adhesive must be free from plastic dissolving substances. For adhesive installation of plastic panels, non-expanding polyurethane foam sealants or liquid nails are used.
  4. Starting from the consistency of the glue, choose a tool - a spatula, brush, roller.
  5. Fasten the corner panel profile in the corner farthest from the door. Apply the adhesive on the back side of the panel in dots, in increments of 25-30 cm.
  6. Apply glue to the lamella, insert into the corner profile. Make sure it is upright with a spirit level. Press the panel down for a while to bind the wall with the adhesive.
  7. Glue the rest of the lamellas in the same way.
  8. Glue fittings - cornices, skirting boards, plugs, etc.
  9. Treat the joints with sealant.

If the walls have a clear geometry, then the frame under the PVC panels can be omitted.

Calculation of the required number of plastic panels:

  1. Calculate the perimeter of the room by measuring the length and width of the floor.
  2. Measure doors and windows, calculate their perimeter.
  3. Subtract from the total area of the room the sum of the area of the window and door.
  4. Divide the remainder by the width of one lamella, round up.

A couple of units of material should be added to the cost estimate for the panels. The stock will be required in case of inaccurate cutting for sockets.

Example

  1. It is necessary to tile the room 3.8 × 5 m, the perimeter of the room is 19 m.
  2. The size of the window is 1.3 × 1.35 meters, the area is 1.755 m. The door is 1.9 × 0.6 m = 1.14 m. The area free of cladding is 1.755 + 1.14 = 2.895 m.
  3. 19-2,895=16,105.
  4. The width of the selected panels is 0.25 m. 16.105: 0.25 = 64.42≈50 units of panels.

A couple of units of material should be added to the cost estimate for the panels.

When choosing plastic panels, you need to build on the following:

  • Appearance. Pay attention to the smoothness of the surface, uniformity of color. If internal stiffeners are visible from the front side of the material, the panel will not last long.
  • Thickness. The thicker the “face” of the lamella, the more durable it is. A thin surface is susceptible not only to deformation, but also to moisture. Behind it, a favorable climate is created for the reproduction of fungi and mold.
  • Number of ribs. A large number of rigid ribs indicates the strength of the material. On average, there are 20 of them in one lamella, and the more, the stronger.
  • The qualities of the ribs. It is worth looking into the end of the purchased panels. The quality of the material can be judged by the evenness, uniformity of thickness and perpendicularity of the ribs.
  • Groove connections. The seller is obliged to clearly demonstrate that the panels fit tightly, without gaps.
  • Weights. The lighter the PVC panel, the thinner its walls and fewer ribs, which reduces its service life.
  • Flexibility. Bend the panel by about 30. If the effects are not visible on it (wrinkles, dents) - buy without hesitation.

A large number of rigid ribs indicates the strength of the material.

How to finish the ceiling with PVC panels

Facing the ceiling with panel plastic is similar to the installation of wall panels, but there are several nuances:

  • In rooms with high humidity (kitchen, bathroom), a crate made of galvanized metal or plastic is recommended.
  • The lamellas are trimmed to form a 4-5 mm gap to the walls on each side.
  • It is unacceptable to fix the panels with staples.
  • For fasteners, you must use glue or self-tapping screws.

In rooms with high humidity (kitchen, bathroom), a crate made of galvanized metal or plastic is recommended.

Tips from the masters:

  • Plastic material is unpacked at temperatures above +10 C.
  • It is inadmissible to remove the panels from the packaging. Remove the packaging completely to avoid scratching or bending the lining.
  • The panels are installed at temperatures above 0 C.
  • Cutting plastic panels must be done from the front side.
  • Metal fasteners must be galvanized, which is especially important in rooms with high humidity.
  • When wiping plastic, avoid harsh cleaners or abrasive powders.
  • At the end of the work, wipe the cladding with an antistatic agent.

The panels are installed at temperatures above 0 C.

Plastic ceiling panels differ from wall panels in their lighter weight, which simplifies their installation.
