Corner bedside table made of wood with your own hands. DIY TV stand: how, where and why

Compact and almost imperceptible, the bedside table plays a very important role. It is convenient to put a lamp on it for reading or knitting before going to bed, put a phone and set an alarm clock. Inside small drawers and open niches it is convenient to store all the little things for a comfortable stay: your favorite books and glasses, chargers for a laptop and tablet, items of care and hygiene. Making a bedside table with your own hands will not be difficult. As a rule, such furnishings are endowed with the simplest design and are not difficult to assemble.

Ideas, how and from which you can make a bedside table yourself

Purchasing separately material to make a bedside table with your own hands is unlikely to be a good idea. Spending on it is small. Therefore, they usually “think” of residues.

There are a lot of design options for bedside tables:

 • It can be an open cantilever structure, a light shelving rack and a full chest of drawers.
 • To be made from the remains of laminate, plywood, pallets, timber, MDF, solid wood and, of course, laminated particleboard.

You can go through models and photos of various ideas endlessly. As for the modular collections of bedrooms by well-known manufacturers, it’s easy to search for pictures of Google and Yandex.

But in the end, the execution will rest only on the desire to do something and the available material leftovers.

An example of how you can make a bedside table with your own hands, drawings and diagrams

Consider a typical model of bedside furniture with your own hands. A drawing and a diagram with indications of overall dimensions will look as follows.

The manufacture of a bedside table from a laminated particleboard of such a plan is separately disadvantageous. It is more economical to make them at once two or, for example, together with. It will cost much cheaper than if you buy it ready-made.

The model is simple to build and can very well be made a beginner. In fact, it will be necessary to assemble the cabinet itself and the box box. Having previously drilled several holes for confirmations.

Do-it-yourself bedside table, calculation of details and cut map

The detailing with the indication of the sides for edging is most clearly described in the Excel label. In fact, three types of sheet materials will be used - chipboard, fiberboard and MDF for the facade of the box. However, in order to save it, it can also be made from chipboard.

If you spread out the details of the bedside table on a whole sheet, you can see that not much material will leave.

That is why I wrote above - that making one copy is extremely disadvantageous if there are no residues. After all, you have to buy a whole sheet of chipboard.

Surfacing and assembling bedside tables

After the parts are sawn, all visible ends are glued over with an edge, you can proceed to the next step. Drill blanks for assembly on confirmations.

In more detail about the nuances of drilling and subsequent assembly, I wrote in an article on manufacturing. In fact - the products are similar in design. Therefore, I will not repeat myself. I will give only an additional drawing of the bedside table in three dimensions.

What you need to make a bedside table yourself

In fact, it all depends on what stages of the work you do yourself and which ones you delegate to the respective companies.

For example, cutting and edging of parts can be ordered in the same place where the chipboard is purchased. And you can do it yourself. In this case, you will need a jigsaw for cutting, a grinding machine for leveling the ends under the edge sticker and iron. And also small improvised items:

 • tape measure, pencil / marker square for measuring workpieces and plotting parts;
 • sandpaper, a shoe and stationery knife for cutting and grinding the edges after the melamine edge is ironed.

To assemble, you will need cross and hexagonal screwdrivers (it is convenient to use a ratchet), a screwdriver.

In addition to the tools and improvised tools that, in principle, any craftsman has in stock, you will need to purchase accessories and components for assembly. All this is given in tabular form of the estimate.

Just create a similar excel form for yourself, drive in the formulas and prices to calculate the final figure of the upcoming expenses. I am sure that if you make a bedside table complete with a more substantial subject and lay out the details for the rest, the savings will be substantial and you will be completely satisfied. Good luck

Self-assembled furniture will be a great decoration for any interior, in addition, it will help to save and emphasize the taste of its owner. Do-it-yourself bedside table is easy to manufacture, drawings for any selected model and assembly scheme are available for public access, and materials can be purchased at any hardware store. However, starting to make furniture, namely a bedside table with your own hands, you need to familiarize yourself with some of the features of the process and technologies.

Deciding to make a bedside table with your own hands, you need to decide on its future dimensions. To determine the parameters of a future interior item, it is important to understand in advance what place in the room will be reserved for this element. The standard dimensions are the determination of height by the level of the bed, the standard width is 50 cm, and the depth varies from 30 to 35 cm. A bedside table of exactly such sizes can most often be found in a furniture store.

If the space in the room allows, then you can independently produce furniture of any size. The height can be more or less than a standard bed. The dimensions of the bedside tables will depend only on the chosen design, as well as the materials from which it will be made.

Features of design and selection of materials

Having decided on the size of the future bedside tables, you can proceed to the planning stage. To do this, you need to determine in which style the furniture will be made, and approximately imagine its appearance. You can choose a ready-made project presented on the Internet, or you can develop your own.

To do this, it is enough to depict a future table on a piece of paper, a stand with your own hands. Then separately draw each detail and paint their dimensions. The computer can greatly simplify the design process. On the Internet there are many programs that are used to create projects and drawings, many of them are used by furniture developers. For starters, the basic version of the simplest program is quite suitable. It will help to understand exactly how the furniture design process is going on, in particular, how to make bedroom furniture.

The bedside table is a diverse concept. This can be a bedside container for newspapers and a tea mug or a stand for a huge TV with built-in speakers and an electronic rotary system to attract the attention of the viewer. Such a simple concept - and an infinite number of options. Do-it-yourself bedside table is quite simple, but it is important to determine the necessary design. My friend needed a kitchen cabinet with one top drawer. Please.

Appearance of the manufactured bedside table

For the manufacture of bedside tables are necessary

Here I give a list of tools that it would be better to keep everyone in constant readiness, along with a fishing rod, favorite gun and chess:

 • Drill / screwdriver. The battery will be optimal if there is also a hammer in the farm.
 • Set of drills. In this case - on wood.
 • Set of bits. If you want to assemble the furniture yourself, the kit should include a bit, which is a hexagon for confirmations.
 • Hinge cutter with a diameter of 35 mm.
 • Iron.
 • Roulette.
 • Pencil.
 • Carpentry tool called "right angle", with a measuring ruler.
 • Sandpaper, dry rag.

I’ll immediately notice about the iron and other items that are not clear from the first try. Since you will be forced to order sawing on the side (an 1830x2440 mm sheet of chipboard is the smallest), it makes sense to save on gluing the edges. Melamine edge 0.5 mm thick is currently being sold in the color of the material, which is easy to glue yourself. Since it is with an adhesive base, it is enough to attach it to the desired end face with the beautiful side up and iron it with a heated iron. With a dry cloth, we press the still hot edge to achieve good adhesion. The excess edges are removed with a blunt knife and the edges are processed with sandpaper.

Detailing bedside tables

A stand made by yourself can differ in content, functionality and appearance. It largely depends on the amount that you are willing to spend on hardware. Here I write details of the simplest and cheapest curbstones. Box without runners, facades - chipboard.

 • 772x500 - 2 pcs., Side tables.
 • 368x500 - 2 pcs., Bottom and shelf.
 • 368x100 - 3 pcs., Base and two upper slats.
 • 480x110 - 2 pcs., Sidewalls of the box.
 • 334x110 - 2 pcs., Box front and rear walls.
 • 150x395 - the facade of the box.
 • 515x395 - the door of the cabinet.

All dimensions are for 16 mm chipboard.

We take a special countertop, kitchen, 28 mm thick. Its size is 525x400 mm.

Fiberboard for the rear wall of the cabinet and the bottom of the box:

 • 670x395 mm - back wall.
 • 475x365 mm - bottom of the box.

I already wrote how to glue the edge, now it's time to prepare the parts for assembly. The main fasteners for us are confirmations, for which it is necessary to drill holes. We drill into a plane with a diameter of 8 mm, into the end of parts - with a diameter of 5 mm. The figure shows which parts are drilled into the end and which into the plane - simply based on the overall design of the cabinet.

Nightstand assembly scheme

List of required fittings

A do-it-yourself bedside table is also our business card in front of everyone who doubted our strength, therefore, even in an inexpensive option, fasteners need to be taken as seriously as possible. We buy in a furniture hardware store:

 • Confirmates 5x70 - 22 pieces. It is enough to fasten the tie rods and the base on one confirm on each side.
 • Self-tapping screws 4x30 - packaging. They will be useful for other household chores, but they are needed here to screw the countertop to the upper slats, and the drawer front to the front wall of the drawer box. All this is wrapped inside.
 • 4x16 screws - packaging. These are fasteners for loops and hardboard (fiberboard). It should be bought with a secret hat, and also deepened at the bottom of the drawer - so as not to scratch the shelf.
 • Furniture hinges - 2 pcs. Since we have a mill with a diameter of 35 mm, we also buy the corresponding hinges.
 • Furniture handles - 2 pcs. It is better to buy screws for handles with a length of 35 mm on the front of the drawer.

Assembly diagram of the drawer of our cabinet

Making night tables

The manufacture of cabinets of such a model is better coordinated with friends or acquaintances - simply because two and a half pieces can be made from a chipboard sheet. The assembly is so simple that you can start selling "extra" cabinets. To fully satisfy potential customers and your own, screw on the side legs from below the furniture legs, the so-called "hooves". They will help to place the cabinet on an uneven floor. Adjustable legs of this type can also be found in specialized stores selling furniture fittings.

Finished bedside table

We already understood how to make a bedside table with our own hands in general terms - it remains to consider two very important technical points.

 • Loop selection. You should remember one constant: The distance from the edge of the facade to the center of the hole for the loop is always 22 mm. Naturally, for loops with a landing size of 35 mm. Above and below the door, it is usually marked at the level of 60-80 mm - this is not critical if there are no design features. Next, you can simply attach the facade with screwed hinges to the sidewall at the desired height and fix it to the body.
 • Right angles. When assembling a drawer or box of a curbstone, always check the geometric correctness of the resulting box. Otherwise, the product will turn out to be hollow and with badly opening facades.

That's all, good job for you.

Making any furniture whether hallway - always starts with creating drawing, sketch or project. Call it whatever you like, the basic essence of it still does not change. Draw a drawing of the future anyone, even the most novice master, possessing basic knowledge of descriptive geometry and arithmetic and having by hand clean paper, a simple pencil, a ruler and an eraser.

Professional furniture designers approach this matter, more seriously armed with a computer and special software. The advantages of this method are obvious:

 • minimizing the likelihood of possible errors.
 • full representation of the appearance of future furniture in 3D.
 • accurate calculation of the amount of consumables and project estimates.
 • receipt of all drawings for future assembly

But if you are not going to be engaged in the production of cabinet furniture professionally, but, say, you want to assemble a wardrobe, kitchen or hallway with your own hands, for yourself or your relatives, then you absolutely have nothing to buy expensive programs, spend weeks and nerves on, to master them and, ultimately, get the long-awaited drawing.

For this we need all the items listed at the beginning of the article. Add a calculator who has bad arithmetic and, of course, be patient.

Consider how to create your own furniture projects using the example of a simple bedside table. If, after a thoughtful reading of this article, you can independently calculate the bedside table, then, I dare to assure you, you will be able to make a project of any cabinet furniture, whether it be a kitchen, closet or hallway (you just have to order it.). The word project means not just a sketch or drawing, but also a detailing of a product, without which it is impossible in any way. So, draw a nightstand:

We set the conditional dimensions and show them in the drawing. The height of our bedside table let it be 800 mm; 400 mm wide and 500 mm deep.

In order to calculate the detailing of this product, it is necessary to know several basic dimensions, namely: the thickness of the chipboard panels, the thickness of the countertops and the distance necessary for attaching the drawer extension system. Depending on what materials will be used, these sizes may vary. For example, the thickness of a chipboard plate can be 16 mm, 18 mm and 22 mm.

We will use in our nightstand the traditional chipboard 16 mm thick, the traditional worktop 28 mm thick and the traditional roller guides which add 13 mm to the width of the box on each side (therefore, 26 mm on both sides). By the way, if you use telescopic drawer extension systems, the size of 26 mm remains valid. Take a word - these three sizes are fundamental when creating ANY furniture project, so I recommend that you just keep them in your head.

For simplicity of calculations, it will be better to draw the product without facades, drawers and countertops so that all elements of the frame are clearly visible, as shown in the figure below. It is worth noting that it is better to show the product in isometry and draw the thickness of the panels and the principle of their joining as shown in the drawing.

Please note that now the height of the nightstand is no longer 800 mm, but 772 mm. we took away the thickness of the countertop equal to 28 mm.

Now we need to calculate the dimensions of all the parts of the frame, which in our case will be made of chipboard 16 mm thick. Let's start with the side posts. Their sizes are visible on the drawing 772 * 500-2 pcs. I think you guessed that 2 pcs. this is the amount of detail. I would like to note that if you are dealing with texture material (imitating wood texture), then the sequence of indicating sizes is important. The first size is ALWAYS indicated along the texture, the second ALWAYS across the texture. If the material has no texture, then the sequence is not important. While everything is clear, then we go further.

We calculate the base of the nightstand. To do this, we set the size of the bottom height from the lower edge of the product, as well as the distance of the middle shelf from the upper bar. Let the first size be 100 mm, and the second 150 mm. Like all sizes of our bedside tables - we also conditionally set these. Now show these sizes in our drawing:

The height of the basement of the bedside table, as can now be seen from the drawing, is 100 mm, and we find the width by subtracting the thickness of two racks from 400, i.e. 32 mm (16 + 16 = 32). We get 368 mm. So, our base is 100 * 368-1 pcs.

Next, we calculate the shelf and bottom. The length of the shelves is the same as the width of the base 368 mm, and the depth is equal to the depth of the whole structure, i.e. 500 mm. We get - the shelf and the bottom: 368 * 500 - 2 pcs. It is worth noting that when calculating the shelves of a cabinet with an MDF facade under glass, the depth of the shelves must be 10-15 mm less than the case so that when the door is closed, the overlay glass does not rest against the shelf.

And finally, the last details of the frame of our bedside table are the upper trims to which the tabletop will be fastened through the holes with screws. Of course, it was possible to put a whole panel in place of the slats, but in order to save material, we will not allow ourselves to do this.

The length of the plank is calculated in the same way as the length of the shelf, the bottom and the width of the base and in our case it is 368 mm. We set the width of the bar ourselves. We will have 80 mm (this is quite enough). We get 368 * 80 - 2 pcs.

Next, we calculate the details of the box. For this, it is not necessary to draw a box on the drawing, but in our case I will do it for clarity (for more details on how boxes are calculated for telescopic guides, see).

The length of the sidewall of the drawer is ALWAYS equal to the length of the guide and equal to or less than the depth of the hull of the entire structure. In our case, 450 mm. To calculate the boxes, you need to know that the guides are 250 mm, 300 mm, 350 mm long. etc. up to 600 mm. Telescopic rails can still be 700 mm and 800 mm. As you can see all the numbers are round, which greatly simplifies the calculations. The height of the sidewall of the drawer is ALWAYS equal to the height of the rear and front walls and is calculated based on the specified size between the upper bar and the shelf. In our case, it is 150 mm. If we want our drawer to be as deep as possible, it is necessary to set the minimum distance between the bottom of the drawer and the shelf is 10 mm and between the upper edge of the drawer and the upper bar it is 30 mm. Only 40 mm. We get the height of the side, rear and front walls of the box 150-40 = 110 mm.

Next, we consider the length of the back and front walls of the box. To do this, subtract from the thickness of two side racks 32 mm from 400 mm, we get 368 mm. Now we subtract 26 mm from 368 mm (we keep this size in our head from the beginning of the article) on the guides we get 342 mm. Subtract another 32 mm (the thickness of the two sides of the box) and in the end we get 310 mm. So, the dimensions of the details of our box. Sidewall: 450 * 110 - 2 pcs; back and front walls of the box: 310 * 110 - 2 pcs.

Now that we have calculated all the details of the cabinet, we can begin to calculate the facades. There are only two facades in our product, this is the front of the drawer and the door of the nightstand. Determining the width of the facades is not at all difficult. To do this, it is necessary to subtract 2 mm from each side of the total width of the structure (and with us it is 400 mm), only 4 mm. We get the width of the facades 400-4 = 396.

Next, we calculate the height of our door and the facade of the drawer. Let's start with the door. Before calculating its height, you need to find out the distance between the bottom and the shelf. We look at the drawing and see that if we take away three thicknesses of chipboard (48 mm) from the entire height of the structure (772 mm), the height of the base (100 mm) and the distance between the shelf and the upper bar (150 mm), then we get 772-48-100-150 = 474 mm. We show this size in our drawing.

Now, to this value, it is necessary to add 14 mm to the whip of the facade and 6 mm to the shelf. Note that the whips are different. Why? At the bottom of the facade, our door is completely located, so we retreat from the edge of only 2 mm (16-2 = 14), on the shelf the door is only halfway, now we retreat 2 mm from the middle of the thickness of the shelf, i.e. 16: 2 = 8; 8-2 = 6. It turns out that the amount of whips to the bottom and the shelf is 14 + 6 = 20. Now we add these 20 mm to the previously obtained distance of 474 mm between the bottom and the shelf, then we get the height of our door: 474 + 20 = 494 mm. The height of the drawer is considered exactly the same: to the distance between the shelf and the top (150 mm plank) we add the amount of lashes (20 mm) we get the height of the drawer facade: 150 + 20 = 170. So the dimensions of our facades: door 494 * 396-1 pcs; box 170 * 396-1 pcs.

For simplicity of calculating the width and height of the facades, it is necessary to remember three CONSTANT sums on whips.
 1) when on the whip of the facade on both sides, the entire thickness of the wall of the housing is 28 mm.
 2) when on the whip of the facade from the other side to the whole, and from the other half to the thickness of the wall of the body 20 mm (as in our case).
 3) when on the whip of the facade from two sides to half the thickness of the wall of the body 12 mm

All three amounts are relevant only with a chipboard thickness of 16 mm.

And the last thing that remains for us to calculate is the size of the back wall, the bottom of the box made of fiberboard, and the width of the countertop. Let's look at our drawing again. To calculate the height of the back wall, subtract the height of the base (100mm) from the height of the case (772mm). And stepping back 2mm on each side, we get: 772-100-2-2 = 688mm. The width of the back wall is the width of the entire structure (400 mm) with indents of 2 mm on each side. We get 400-2-2 = 396mm. So, the size of the back wall of our bedside table: 688 * 396-1pcs. The bottom of the box is calculated based on the size of the perimeter of the box. The bottom length is equal to the length of the side wall of the box, i.e. 450 mm, and the width is equal to the length of the front wall in total with the double thickness of the side of the box, namely 310 + 16 + 16 = 342 mm. Received the size of the bottom part of the box: 450 * 342-1 pcs.

And finally, the width of the countertop is equal to the width of the entire structure, namely 400 mm. The size of the tabletop depth can be set independently or use the standard 600mm.
As a result, we got a drawing of a bedside table with detailed details:

 1. 772 * 500-2 pcs. racks
 2. 100 * 368-1 pcs. cap
 3. 368 * 500-2 pcs. shelf and bottom
 4. 368 * 80-2 pcs. upper bars
 5. 450 * 110-2 pcs. drawer side
 6. 310 * 110-2 pcs. front and back walls of the box
 1. 494 * 396-1 pcs. door
 2. 170 * 396-1 pcs. box
 1. 688 * 396-1 pcs. back wall
 2. 450 * 342-1 pcs. drawer bottom

countertop

 1. 400 * 600-1 pcs.

Now you just have to choose and order it. Remember, high-quality chipboard cutting will help you avoid problems when assembling your designed product.

Successful work!

Televisions are becoming more compact. TV models make it easy to mount them on the walls, on special brackets. Despite all the newfangled interior solutions, the TV stand does not lose its relevance.

Not always the interior itself contributes to the possibility of wall mounting. This can be prevented by a window opening or materials from which walls are made that do not allow fixing the bracket. In addition, the functionality of the TV table allows you to place on it a variety of equipment or other items.

Each buyer draws for himself an ideal model that will not only fit into the interior in size, but will also correspond to it in color and style.

Not every material requires finishing.

Wooden elements can also be decorated in the form of works of art carving on the outer walls or countertops.

Each buyer draws for himself an ideal model that will not only fit into the interior in size, but will also correspond to it in color and style. A wide selection of furniture products, including TV cabinets, allows you to purchase, it would seem, any model. Faced, however, with the specific task of choice, a person often faces the fact that either sizes, color, or design do not fit. It is this factor that pushes many people to start making furniture with their own hands.

Making a TV stand with your own hands is quite simple. To do this, you just need to choose the right model, focusing on your professional level. The choice of material for the manufacture of the structure is also crucial. Some materials make it easy and convenient even for beginners to work with them, while others require not only skills, but also special processing tools. Assembling a bedside table for a TV with your own hands requires scrupulousness and a correctly constructed phased scheme for mounting parts.

In addition, you will need screws, self-tapping screws and four guides for further fixing manufactured boxes to them.

The inner wall should not be removed, because it gives the structure additional durability, preventing it from bending under the weight of the TV.

We draw a drawing of a future bedside table

For beginners furniture masters and just lovers, it is best to use ready-made drawings of the bedside table. A lot of options can be found on specialized sites. When choosing a drawing, it is necessary to focus not only on the final result, but also on the complexity of manufacturing and assembly. An important factor is the material recommended for manufacturing.

Some designs require certain materials that may not suit the craftsman for price or durability. For example, models with narrow countertops and a small depth of the cabinet can withstand heavy weight when making them from an array. The use of chipboard in such cases will drastically reduce, perhaps, the permissible load on such a bedside table. Therefore, it is extremely important to assess the weight and width of the TV that will stand on it. You must also remember the additional accessories that you will need when using the TV, these can be speakers, a video player and more.

Often, a bedside table for a TV contains disks, magazines, newspapers and decor items. This should also be taken into account before you start drawing your own hands.

The list of tools can be truncated or expanded depending on the complexity of the product and the selected materials.

Often, the decor of the TV cabinets is to combine various materials and decorate it with glass parts.

We choose the best materials for work

A variety of materials allows you to make both very cheap and simple models, and swipe for chic. Not every bedside table for a TV can be made with your own hands using any improvised material. Some designs involve only wood or only plywood. There are more universal designs that can be made with your own hands from existing scraps or residues from other furniture.

In the manufacture of curbstones, you can use:

 1. Plywood.
 2. Timber.
 3. Wood, in the form of glued panels.
 4. Array

You can also make a cabinet partly from glass or decorative plastic. These materials are most often used for countertops and furniture doors.

Chipboard is the most unpretentious option for work, it does not require any special tools for cutting, or grinding machines. It is easy to cut and process. Its obvious advantage is the price.

When buying wood, you should pay attention to its quality. An important nuance is the absence of defects and the dryness of the purchased material. Wet wood can be deformed in the room, thereby spoiling the finished product.

We prepare tools for work

You can make a bedside table with your own hands only with a jigsaw. Some craftsmen do even without it, ordering sawing according to the drawing when buying material. Do-it-yourself furniture assembly still requires the following professional and non-professional tools:

 1. Pencil, marker or other writing item.
 2. Thick cardboard for the manufacture of patterns.
 3. Ruler and tape measure.
 4. Compass, if some workpieces will have a round shape or rounded edges.
 5. Jigsaw with files of the required size.
 6. Clamps for gluing parts.
 7. Glue.
 8. Ribbon trim tape.
 9. Screws, screws, confirmats.
 10. Grinding machine.
 11. Drawer guides for bedside tables.

Stained glass doors look beautiful, although these designs are more fragile than solid sheets of glass.

Step-by-step instructions for making a bedside table

 • We are preparing a drawing. We take a ready-made and verified drawing, or we develop it ourselves, taking into account the dimensions of the TV and its weight.
 • We make patterns of all elements. This stage will allow you to accurately calculate the consumption of material and not make a fatal mistake.
 • Cutting materials.
 • Grind the cut edges. When working with wood, it will be necessary to grind not only cuts, but also the rest of the surface.
 • We glue the edges with tape. This step is necessary when using chipboard material. To glue the tape you will need an iron and a soft cloth.
 • We assemble the cut parts. Assembly is always carried out according to one scheme. You should start with the countertop. Legs or side backs are attached to it. Then the lower shelf is screwed. After the general design is assembled, we fill the curbstone with additional details - middle shelves. The rear back and doors are attached in the penultimate turn. If there are drawers, a preliminary fastening of the guides on the inner sides of the side walls should be provided.
 • The last step in the assembly is the attachment of legs, rollers or the pad of the thrust bearings.
