When the turn comes to renovating the bathroom, the pressing question arises - what to do with the old cast-iron bathroom? She has served so well for so many years that it is a pity to throw her away and to store such a heavy large-sized attribute of plumbing is nowhere and there is no need. The ideas from this article will help solve this problem, showing how you can make the so-called upgrade and give new life to an old bath.

Small reservoirs and ponds are always in perfect harmony with the landscape design of the summer cottage. It is not difficult to build a small pond yourself if you have an old bathtub. Such a pond will look most natural if the bath is buried almost to the very edges in the ground. In the place where it is planned to organize a pond, it is necessary to make markings based on the size of the bath, dig a hole corresponding to its parameters. Next, plug the side and bottom drain holes with a wooden plug wrapped in cloth. It is better to paint the inside of the bathtub black so that the bottom of the bathtub does not shine with an unnatural whiteness. However, if you do not plan to periodically drain water from the pond and clean the surface of the bathtub, then after a certain amount of time the bath itself will take on a natural look due to adhering dirt, plant residues and insect waste products. And here are some more ways.

Around the pond, you can lay out stones, plant such plants as loosestrife, bells, iris, ferns, bergenia. You can also decorate the pond with lanterns and a variety of animal and bird figurines.

Cozy sofa for a summer residence from an old bath

With some effort and creativity, you can transform an old bathtub into a stylish and original sofa. It can be placed both on the summer cottage itself and in the house. To implement this idea, it is necessary to outline a cut line on one of the sides of the bath and remove the excess part with a grinder. The edges should be smoothed and then painted outside and inside the bathtub in any color you like that suits the interior of the room. After painting on the cut edges, fix the edging. Decorative overlays should be glued to the legs with liquid nails. A mattress and pillows are placed on the bottom of the bathroom. The sofa is ready.

Beautiful flower bed from an old bath

Making an excellent flower bed from an old bathtub is easy. Plus, she's almost ready. You can bury the tub completely in the ground, as is the case with a pond, then cover it with earth and plant the plants. Or you can leave the bathtub on its legs, or dig only the legs into the ground. At the same time, the outside of the bath should be painted and you can even turn on all your imagination and paint the bath with beautiful patterns. Also, for the purpose of decoration, you can lay out a mosaic on the outside of the bathtub made of chipped tiles. And a few more ideas for your summer cottage.

Old bathtub as water storage for irrigation

Many summer residents use an old bathtub as a container for storing water in the country. But so that the old bathtub does not spoil the appearance of the summer cottage, you can easily build a funny cow out of it, like in the photo, which will give a smile and good mood to all family members and neighbors. Such an excellent cow can also be used as a mini pool for children.

In general, you can breathe new life into any old thing, translate it in a different form, use it for a different purpose. An old bathtub is an excellent material for creating truly amazing and most importantly functional decorative elements for a summer cottage, whether it be a picturesque flower bed, a quiet pond in thickets of plants, a stylish sofa, an original water storage tank or even a mini pool.

First you need to remove the legs (if any) and clean off the peeling paint and enamel with a grinder.

Step 2

Then turn the bath over to mark the cutout for the future sofa. The shape of the cut can be smooth, sharp, semicircular, it all depends on your imagination and wishes.
It is worth cutting with a grinder with a cutting wheel for metal. Work with this tool very carefully, take care of protective equipment in advance.

Step 3

After the cut is ready, the cut should be sanded away from sharp edges and burrs. Then you can start painting the future sofa. To do this, use any paints intended for metal (enamel paint, nitro paint, aerosol, etc.), you can use several paints to decorate the sofa, draw any pattern or drawing applied with your own hand or using a stencil.

Step 4

The legs can also be painted in any color and replaced. Stones or wooden beams (or stumps) can be used as a stand.

Step 5

For softness and comfort, you can make a seat cushion from foam rubber, cut to the size and shape of the bath. Wrap the resulting shape with padding polyester. You can sew a cover for the foam seat, or simply wrap it in a cloth and lay it on the bottom of the tub. You can also sew or purchase pillows under your back, which will make your stay on such a sofa even more comfortable.

Everyone knows that nowadays furniture has a very considerable cost. Moreover, this applies to absolutely everything, and sofas, and chairs, and shelves and everything else. Probably the only way to save money in this case is to buy furniture in bulk. Although, here it is also necessary to mention the self-production. They make furniture with their own hands, and there are a lot of ways to accomplish this task. Specifically in this guide, we presented you with a master class on making a small sofa from a bath.

What to cook

In order to make a sofa you will need the following:

Bath;
bath cutting tool;
felt-tip pen;
soft seat;
dye;
legs for a bath.

As for the tools, it all depends on what exactly the bath is made of. It's one thing if it's acrylic and quite another if it's cast iron. By the way, it will be much easier in the case of an acrylic product, a steel bath is a good option, but you will have to tinker with a cast-iron bath. We also note that cast iron products are always very heavy. Well, in general, here, of course, it's up to you to decide.

Making a sofa with your own hands

Initially, you need to modify the bath. The task is to remove one of the sidewalls; it must be cut out. For this purpose, depending on the material, you can use a grinder or autogen, acrylic can be cut, including with a jigsaw. The main thing is that the neckline is even. By the way, that's why you need to do the markup first. For this, you, in fact, need a marker. And yet, if the surface of the bathtub has stains and, in general, if it is not beautiful, you will need to fix it.

In any case, the edges of the cut must be rounded. When the cutting is done, you can install the legs. Note that they can be painted, however, like the body of the sofa.

As for the seat, you can do it yourself. You need to sew a small mattress. To do this, you will need foam rubber, synthetic winterizer, as well as dense and at the same time delicate fabric. Well, of course, you will need a sewing machine, as well as a needle, thread and a soft meter. First you need to cut the base out of padding polyester and foam rubber. Then you need to sew a cover onto this base. By the way, it will be nice if it is removable. You will need a zipper for this.

This is basically all. As you can see, the task is not very difficult. Every home master can cope with the creation of such a sofa. Well, as for materials, finding an old bathtub is now not difficult, as well as sewing a small mattress.

  • Many have recently decided on a large-scale renovation in the bathroom, during which it is planned to replace the old bathtub.

If the old bathroom has served its time, do not rush to throw it into a landfill or scrapped it, you can make a rather original and creative sofa out of it with your own hands. Such a sofa can become a decoration of any home, from an apartment to a country house, and it will also fit well into the interior of various salons and service offices.

For the manufacture of such a sofa, an old cast-iron or metal bath is suitable, although it is better to give preference in favor of a cast-iron one, it has good stability and an original shape, especially if it is of an old model. Making a sofa from a bathtub is quite simple, all you need is an old bathtub, an angle grinder (grinder) with metal cut-off wheels and grinding attachments, enamel paints for painting the bathtub, and foam rubber with fabric for the seat and pillows.

Having removed the legs, we clean off the damaged and peeling areas of paint and enamel.

Having laid the bath, we draw the intended shape of the sofa frame on one side, it all depends on the wishes and our own fantasies. Cut lines can be straight, oblique, curved, semicircular, etc.

We cut out with a grinder and do not forget about personal protective equipment.

Having cut out the extra part of the bath, we grind the cutting line from the burr and make it more rounded. You can paint with any paints intended for a metal base, these are all kinds of enamels, nitro paints, aerosol paints and the like.

The legs in such bathrooms are self-tightening under the weight, they must be cleaned, painted and put into the groove inserts. In case of their absence, you can weld the necessary frame from pipes or squares and install in it, you can also make stands from stone or wooden beams.

Making a seat is a fairly simple job, we take foam rubber of a suitable thickness and cut out the required shape from it.

We wrap the cut out foam blank with padding polyester or spandbond.

Then we cover with a cloth, if possible and desired, you can sew a cover and insert foam rubber into it.

Pillows for the back and side armrests can be sewn on your own or purchased ready-made in the store, suitable in color and size.

Here you can see that the base of the seat is made of wooden planks, which in turn can be covered with a rug, bedspread or soft blanket.

In this version, the entire inner part is covered with foam rubber and a one-piece cover is sewn.

An overhead backrest and headrests will give this sofa a business look.

The right combination of colors and colors will give the sofas a unique glamor.

Having cut the bathtub in half, we get two original and rather comfortable armchairs that will become a spectacular addition to your sofa made from an old bathtub with your own hands. If you have an old bathtub, don't rush to throw it away. You can make a good chair out of it, or even two. Everything is done quite simply, you will need to apply the greatest amount of force to cut the bathtub and weld the support. Let's consider the manufacturing process in more detail.

DIY materials and tools:
- old bath;
- support from the old chair;
- bolts with nuts for fastening the support;
- dye;
- sandpaper for grinding metal surfaces;
- grinder;
- welding;
- spanners;
- a piece of steel plate;
- LED strip (optional).

Chair manufacturing process:

Step one. Preparing the bath
First, you need to clean the dirt out of the bathtub. The author's bath was drinking livestock, so there was quite a lot of dirt in it. We pour out the dirt, wash, so that it is convenient to work with the material and not get smeared with dirt.

Step two. We mark the places of the cuts
Take a pencil or marker and draw a line for the future cut. As for the size, then decide for yourself. The bath needs to be cut at an angle, as the author did.

Step three. We cut the bath
We take a grinder with cutting discs and cut a bathtub. You should not rush in this matter, take a break, use protective glasses and gloves.

Step four. Chair base
As a basis for the chair, the author used a support from an old office chair. The chair is old, so the support is not made of plastic, like modern ones, but of metal. Cut off the excess and prepare a plate for attaching the chair.

Step five. We attach the support to the seat
We weld the fastening nuts to the metal seat. Thanks to them, the support can be removed if necessary, that is, the chair is collapsible. Drill four holes in the metal plate of the support, bolts will be screwed into them.

Step six. Cut off excess from the bolts
To bolt the support, they need to be shortened. We take a grinder, clamp the bolt in a vice and cut off the excess. Align the cut edges so that the screws can be screwed into the nuts without any problems.

Step seven. Trial assembly
At this step, you can already assemble the chair. You need to make sure that the chair is assembled evenly and securely.

Step eight. Align the bend of the bath
So that no one can see the bath in this chair, you can close up the bend. Take two steel plates for this purpose and weld them in the right places. First, tack with welding, and then finally weld.

Step nine. Metal preparation for painting
It is not so easy to paint a bath, because not every paint adheres to the enamel. The essence of the preparation is to make the surface matte. This can be achieved using a grinder with a sanding disc. You can also work with sandpaper and other means. Finally, the entire surface was rubbed with steel wool.

Step ten. Priming and painting
First of all, we apply a primer, from the author and paint and primer in spray cans. Well, then, when the primer is dry, we apply two layers of acrylic paint to the surface. You can use gloss or matte paint.

Step 11. Clean and polish the support
The author polishes the support from the old chair to shine.

Step 12. Edging the chair
To prevent the chair from being cut and look more solid, the author lets the edging around the edge.

Step 13. LED strip
Since the author made the chair for his son, who is fond of computer games, it was decided to equip it with LED lighting. The author used LED strips for such purposes. We glue it to the chair, and also connect the power source, which is the batteries.
