How to connect a lamp - tips for installing modern structures and options for their fastening (105 photos). Wiring diagram for a chandelier with a double switch How to connect a lamp with two cartridges

The choice of lighting device should be entrusted to the wife. Ladies are much more fond of shopping, looking for goods on sale, they have a better developed sense of beauty, so for her it will only be a joy. How much money to allocate to the adored wife? It all depends on the model, the materials from which it is made, and other features. When choosing, emphasis is placed on the unity of the design styles of the lamp and other elements of the decor in the room. For example:

  1. MW-LIGHT Bouquet - Suspension design guarantees ease of installation, since this five-arm chandelier can be connected using a conventional three-channel terminal box. All contacts are already grouped together and are output in a single winding with three cables. The cost of the model does not exceed 6,000 rubles - another plus for the wallet. Floral style - ideal for the bedroom, but also suitable for other rooms.
  2. Favorite Lanta is a pendant model with the same benefits as the previous design. Looks like crystal, costs much less, ideal for decorating a living room or large halls. The power of all lamps in the aggregate is 200 watts. The price of the product is 13,000 rubles.
  3. Chiaro Versace is a very luxurious piece of furniture (46,000 rubles), has a powerful design, is mounted on a durable ceiling hook. All this allows us to recommend the chandelier to true connoisseurs of beauty, who do not spare money for luxury. Plus: all the wires are hidden inside the barrel of the product, which allows you to regroup pairs of lamps.

All listed models can be purchased in our store, they are always in stock. In case of difficulties with the choice, you can contact a consultant.

How to connect a five-arm chandelier without tools?

Not every home has voltmeters, multimeters, indicator screwdrivers and other equipment for electrical work. In order not to spend money on their purchase, we decided to give you some useful tips on how to do without serious tools and still connect the ceiling lamp correctly:

  1. An indicator screwdriver is needed to identify the phase and zero. You can find out about the purpose of the wires in other ways: look in the technical documentation, from the marking (“L” - phase, “N” - zero) or by color - brown, black or red colors are characteristic of the phase, zero is indicated in blue.
  2. A multimeter is needed to check the correct connection of a 5-light chandelier. An easy way to do the same, but without a device, is to turn on the power supply and press the switch keys.
  3. Instead of pliers, you can use a regular kitchen knife to clean the cable cores. The braid is heated by fire from a lighter, softened and removed. Try not to overheat the wire to avoid loss of its performance.

Everything you need to connect a 5-arm chandelier: a sturdy chair, a knife, electrical tape. Instead of twisting wires, you can use a terminal box, it comes with the lighting equipment itself.

Basic wiring diagrams for a ceiling lamp

We will analyze 4 methods for synchronizing cables:

  1. How to connect a chandelier with 5 horns to a single-gang switch.
  2. Method of synchronizing the cables of the luminaire with the terminals of the two-gang panel.
  3. Connecting equipment from which 10 cores depart.
  4. Installation of a chandelier with three cables.

How to connect a 5-horn chandelier to a single-gang switch?

In this model of the breaker, two or three cables of the main power supply network are provided: phase, ground and zero. In most cases, there is no "land", its use is justified only in industrial buildings. A single-key switch will turn all the lamps on and off at the same time, so there is no point in dividing them into groups. If two cables with a phase come out of the chandelier, they should be wound together and brought into the terminal box. You can use the serial connection method: insert the ends of the cores from different slots, fix them with bolts and close them with an additional common cable with a cross section of 0.25 sq. mm. The final step in connecting a five-arm chandelier is the insulation of an additional wire after connection.

Zero is always a common cable, therefore, only one core is provided for it from the general network and from the chandelier - there will be no connection problems.

Wiring diagram for a chandelier with 5 lamps for a two-gang switch

From the breaker with two buttons, two phase wires and one zero wire depart. Manufacturers of chandeliers with five lights also divide the total number of fixtures into two groups: two and three lights. Therefore, three cables also come out of the trunk of the lighting device: two phases and zero.

This scheme for connecting a chandelier with 5 bulbs is the simplest: connect the phases of the chandelier to the phases of the network and both zeros with a twist or inside the terminal box. When using the latter, do not twist the contacts too tightly - the core may break off and the electrical circuit will be interrupted.

How to hook up a chandelier with 5 bulbs and 10 wires?

Here, difficulties arise most often, but this method has one important advantage - you yourself choose which lamps to combine into groups. The neutral wire is always common, so follow these steps:

  1. Hang the chandelier on a hook so that it does not fall and is not suspended.
  2. Find the neutral wire using colors, markings or instructions in the data sheet.
  3. Connect 5 zero cores of the chandelier with pliers or a screwdriver in the terminal box in a consistent way.
  4. Insert one neutral cable into the box on the other side and fix it with fasteners.
  5. Divide the phases into two groups if you have a two-key switch or combine them into one if you have a one-button switch. The number of terminal boxes used depends on the number of groups: it is easier to hide two small ones than one long one.
  6. Connect the phases in the same way. All twists should be isolated with tape.

Important: do not touch the conductive paths even when they are de-energized. Residual voltage will not cause a critical force strike, but it can disable a person for a while.

Wiring diagram for a chandelier with 5 horns and three common cables

The method is similar to the first method. However, here the manufacturer has already distributed the groups of lamps and simplified your task: you don’t have to think about how to connect the wires in a chandelier with 5 horns. After connecting, check the operability of the lighting device. To do this, activate the automatic switchboard and turn on the switch buttons. If you strictly followed our instructions, everything should start working after the first installation attempt.

You can install and connect such a chandelier with your own hands

Often, many home craftsmen get into a dead end when they need to properly install and connect chandeliers. Usually these devices are not very complex in their design, but the lack of knowledge on the principle of their operation, indeed, becomes the cause of such problems. Today we will talk about how to connect a chandelier with 3 wires- a lamp with separate lamp control, because it is for them that beginners have the most questions. We will also look at how to properly stretch the wiring to the electrical point, how to do all the work as safely as possible.

So, let's assume that you have purchased a chandelier with separate control of candles. How to proceed to connect it? Let's first dive into the theory a little, let's look at how this device works, and what the wires coming out of the base are for. This will help to avoid mistakes when installing devices of different designs.

  1. We unpack the chandelier. We don't need the plafonds yet, so you can put them aside. Take the base, which usually consists of a bowl of any size and shape, several metal tubes inside which wires pass, decorative details and sockets into which light bulbs will be installed.
  2. The photo shows an example of a simple chandelier with two wires. No, in fact there will be more wires (2 per 1 cartridge), so we are only interested in their color marking. That is, we see three brown and three blue wires. These are the classic plus and minus or phase and zero required to power an electrical device.

An example of a simple chandelier with two wires

  1. Since in this case, power is supplied to all the lamps simultaneously and through one switch, all wires of the same color are twisted together, and then connected to the wires coming from the junction box, through which voltage is applied.
  2. Connecting such a chandelier rarely raises questions. The wires cannot be mixed up, and there is no difference which one goes to phase and which goes to zero.

Another thing is when there are three or more wires marked with color. How to understand their purpose and not get confused when connecting. To do this, we need an instruction manual.

Three multi-colored wires come out of the chandelier bowl

Although the instruction is, perhaps, said loudly, since the kit will contain one single piece of paper with a picture of the product and a brief diagram of its connection. We are interested in the name of the wires, in the instructions they can be signed like this: L is phase, the wire will have Brown, White, pink or any another color except the following; N- zero, this wire is always of blue color; ground- grounding, the wire has yellow with applied green stripe.

Wiring diagram for a chandelier with 3 wires

Interesting to know! In some devices, especially those made in China, the phase and neutral wires do not differ at all. They have the same insulation color and when connected, you have to navigate only by the lamps from which they come.

If your chandelier has all three of these markings, then this means that it is two-wire, with grounding. The earth is attached from the inside to the body of the device and most likely this will be done directly on the bowl, so you will see the second end. It is used if the body of the chandelier is metal and a person who grabs it can pierce with electric current.

Attention! If there is earth in the chandelier, then under it you need to conduct a separate one from the junction box.

In fact, there are already four wires

Connecting such a chandelier is no more difficult than the previous version. A single-key switch is placed on it, and the ground is connected to the necessary wires in the junction box.

Now look at the photo above. There we see a separate yellow ground wire and three more wires that will be connected to the chandelier. Of course, the device itself has exactly the same number of wires. Here there will be a completely different connection scheme. This chandelier means turning on only a part of the lamps installed on it with one key of the switch. A similar situation will be with models in which there are only three wires, but there is no ground.

Working lamp contacts

Let's understand the purpose of each wire. Regardless of the type of base that the lamp is equipped with, it will have only two contacts. An example is shown on the classic screw version in the photo above. A phase can be applied to any of these contacts, and zero will go from the second, respectively. So the circuit closes, and the electrical appliance begins to operate. When installed with these contacts, the lamp touches the contacts inside the base, from which the wires of interest to us go into the bowl.

In order for the lamps to light up separately in a multi-candle chandelier, they need to be independently powered, so the number of wires increases. So, from each lamp, two wires come out into the bowl. To break them down into groups, we need take all negative wires(one for each lamp) join together- this can be done by twisting or using special terminals, for example "Vago".

Terminal Vago

Then we choose the principle of dividing the wires - through one lamp, by levels, and so on. We find the phase wires from the desired lamps and connect them. The result is two more twists. The most banal example is that the phase wires of even lamps are connected in one, and the odd ones in the other.

In order for this to work correctly, we need to connect the negative wire to the common zero in the junction box, and put the positive twists to the desired switch keys. Next, we will explain in more detail how to do this.

Try it don't get confused

If three wires simply come out in the device you bought, it means that the manufacturer has already done all the work for you, and you just have to connect everything correctly.

If, in addition to the chandelier, you have difficulties with the stretch ceiling, then you can easily solve the problems. We will help you figure out what causes damage to the ceiling, as well as how to best repair all the shortcomings.

Two-gang switch

Two-gang switches are usually installed in large rooms where separate light control is required. Moreover, you can run not only parts of one chandelier, but also individual lamps and their groups. It all depends on how your wires are routed. In this chapter, we will analyze the structure of this simple product and the purpose of each of its outputs.

Each key turns on a separate group of lamps

If you look into the box where such a switch will be installed, you will see three wires entering it, which will also be of different colors and one of them will even be yellow-green, but it is not grounding. All three wires will be phase, just one of them will be the input, and two will be the output.

The purpose of a switch is to open and close an electrical circuit. This device is mechanical and has moving and fixed contacts. The photo below shows the structure of the main working part of a classic two-gang switch. We see from above one common contact for both keys. The lower contacts are already separate, and are connected to the upper one only in a certain key position.

How the two-gang switch is arranged from the inside

So we have three wires. All of them are displayed in a junction box. One of them is connected there to a common phase wire that comes from the input shield. Its other end is connected to a fixed contact. The remaining two we will connect with those two twists on the chandelier and two moving contacts on the switch.

As a result, we get the following. The fixed contact of the switch is constantly energized. We press the first key, and the current will flow until twisting, where it will be divided into bulbs, from which it will return to the junction box and then along the neutral wire. The same will happen when the second key is turned on, only the remaining lamps will light up.

Interesting to know! Some electricians, by mistake or ignorance, let through the switch not a phase, but zero. So the lamps will also work, but not all types. Due to the fact that the lamp will actually always be energized, it may flicker even when the light is off. This happens with LEDs or fluorescent lamps. Therefore, to prevent this from happening, we do everything exactly according to the scheme.

How to connect all the wires correctly - a detailed installation guide

So, we have dealt with the theoretical part. Now let's look at the process of installing the entire chain with illustrative examples. We will break this chapter into two parts - assembly and electrical.

Wire laying, switch installation

Classic electrician set

Let's start with the most basic - laying wires. Imagine that you need to breed everything from scratch. To work, you will need the following set of tools. We will list the devices and immediately describe the order of work, without deviating from the step-by-step scheme.

Step 1. Cutting a hole for a switch.

The puncher is necessary in case of installation on concrete walls, lined with bricks and other block materials. To him, a diamond crown is taken in the kit so that it is possible to choose a recess for the box. If you have a frame-type wall in front of you, which can be sheathed with drywall, wooden clapboard, PVC panels and similar materials, the crown is taken on wood, and a puncher can replace a screwdriver.

Cutting a hole for a switch

Advice! There are other ways to achieve the desired result. But that's not the point - now the stage and the variant of its implementation are important to us.

Step 2 Strobe cutting.

Now you need to connect the resulting hole to the junction box using a strobe. It is done from the hole up to the desired level, and then, it is carried out horizontally to the end point. It is most convenient to work with a wall chaser. This tool has two parallel discs and makes two cuts in the wall at a certain distance in one pass. Then the inner part of the strobe is knocked out with a perforator and a furrow with smooth edges is obtained.

strobe cutting

Prices for popular models of wall chasers

wall chaser

In the absence of a wall chaser, everything can be done with a grinder. Work of this nature is always done with gloves, goggles and a respirator. It is not worth trying to knock out a strobe with a puncher, since it will not turn out deep, the plaster will be damaged and it will be more difficult to cover everything up later.

If your walls are framed, then a strobe is not required at all, since the wires are laid even before they are sheathed inside the structure - then their ends just need to be removed from the hole made.

Step 3 Wire laying.

We take a three-core wire, the cross section of which will correspond to the planned loads, and we lay it in the strobe. At the same time, it must be fixed so that it does not fall out. For this, special clips are used, pieces of wire nailed to the wall and a plaster solution, as in the photo below. The ends of the wire are brought out into the boxes - distribution and switch.

Wire laying

The box from the switch using the same gypsum is embedded in the wall so that its edges are flush with the plane of the wall.

Step 4 Switch installation.

Then we take our switch and remove the front panel from it. On the back of the product there will be a marking that will help you figure out where, which contact is located.

Switch installation

L is a fixed common contact

We clean the ends of the wire cores from insulation by 1.5-2 cm. We insert one of them into a fixed contact and fix it with a screw connection. Be sure to remember the color of the wire, and even better, mark its second end in the junction box as the main phase.

We connect the remaining two cores to the remaining terminals in any order.

Due to the spacers, the switch is held in the box

We install the switch in the box and fix it by tightening the screws along the edges, which spread the spacer elements to the sides. Some models can simply be screwed to the box with self-tapping screws. Then we put on the front of the switch, and here we no longer return.

If your wires have already been laid, and everything has been closed for a long time, that when installing the switch we act in the same way, only first we need to determine the phase wire using the dialing method. For this, we use a screwdriver indicator, on which, when you touch the phase, the light will light up.

Chandelier installation

From the junction box, the wire is routed to the installation point of the lamp. This is done in the same way as the wiring on the walls, so we will not repeat ourselves. We would rather name a few rules that should be observed when installing in plasterboard ceilings.

Electrical wiring must not be connected to metal structures

Many electricians, taking the opportunity and wanting to make their task easier, tie wires to the ceiling frame. "Masters" believe that they will be reliably protected by PVC corrugation and native wire insulation. Of course, there is protection, but such installation is strictly prohibited at the regulatory level.

Since the frame is made of metal, it will perfectly transmit current, which can lead to unpredictable consequences. PVC corrugation will not withstand that temperature, which can form in the wire when a short circuit occurs. Therefore, the track can only be driven independently, and only on non-combustible surfaces, for example, a concrete ceiling. If the ceiling (base) is made of wood, then laying the wire is allowed only in metal corrugation, which will not burn out during a short circuit. So the installer from the photo above made two critical mistakes.

Advice! The number of wires going to the box from the chandelier is determined by the number of contacts on it.

Installing a chandelier on drywall

Now let's move on to mounting our chandelier. Depending on the type of base, different methods of fastening are used. We will analyze them using the example of concrete, plasterboard and stretch ceilings.

All differ in shape and weight. These parameters directly affect the mounting system used during installation. There are 3 options in total.

  1. The first one is hook fastening shown in the photo above. It is used mainly in older models and in chandeliers with small base bowls. Hooks can be of different designs, which will affect the type of base it will fit on.

Hook-lock

  1. The second way to fix the chandelier - through the mounting plate. Unlike the hook, this part is always included. It is fixed to the base with a pair of self-tapping screws.

Mounting plate

  1. The third type of fastener is a cross. It is not much different in a technical sense from the bar and is used for the most dimensional and heavy products.

Cross for chandelier

So, all three systems can be installed on any ceilings:

With concrete, everything is very clear - we need to attach mounting parts directly to it, and then hang a chandelier on them. Such floors are made up of plates, inside of which there are round cavities through which the wires are fed to the installation site. At this point, a hole is drilled, the end of the wire is pulled out, and a hook is placed in it. Fasteners can be wedged right in the hole, like the one we showed earlier, or attached directly to the ceiling - here you will need a puncher and metal anchor wedges to work.

Hook for direct mounting

Mounting strips and crosses are always fastened through anchors.

Preparing the frame for mounting the chandelier

Plasterboard and other frame ceilings do not have a high strength of the front surface. It is allowed to directly install a light lamp or chandelier on the same drywall, but heavy models can deform it, which will lead to cracks, or even a fall. To prevent this from happening, even during the assembly of the frame, special mortgages are made in it. You can implement them in different ways, but the meaning will be the same - directly connect the chandelier mounting system with the capital foundation.

The photo above shows that a corner is attached to the concrete ceiling, which holds the hook that passes through the metal profiles.

Advice! Binding to the base does not have to be done through the frame. For example, if it is made of wood, then you can simply find a self-tapping hook of the desired length and screw it into the main ceiling.

Mounting platforms for stretch ceilings

Stretch ceilings will not be installed by anyone, so the problem of installing a chandelier goes to hired workers, but this information will not harm anyone. Since the tension web is not able to withstand loads at all without sagging, mounting platforms are used to install any lighting equipment, which can be purchased ready-made or made from improvised materials. The meaning of the design is to fix it to the main ceiling and set it a couple of millimeters above the ceiling level. Then, when the web is tensioned, holes are made in it inside the pre-glued rings.

Depending on the type of site and fastening system, further installation of equipment is carried out according to a well-established scheme. Everything is simple!

Chandelier connection

Video - Connect a chandelier to a double switch

We moved the connection to a separate chapter, but in fact it is performed simultaneously with the installation of the device, so we will only name the remaining steps, step by step:

Table 1. Instructions for installing a chandelier.

Step, photo:Description:
Step 1. Insulation cleaning.

Cleaning the insulation

Let's assume that the mounting plate is already in place, as in the example from the photo, and the wire has already been brought out. We remove about 7 cm of outer insulation from it. This is necessary so that we can spread the veins to the sides at the desired distance. Then we clean the insulation from the cores themselves - the same 1.5-2 cm will be enough.
Step 2 Terminal block installation.

Installing the terminal block

We fasten the terminals to the ends of the wires. You can use any options. It is better to refuse twisting and soldering wires.
Step 3 Connection to the wire terminals from the chandelier.

We connect the wires from the chandelier to the terminals

We have 3 or 4 wires coming out of the chandelier. Accordingly, the cable coming out of the box should have the same number of cores if you do not want to be left without grounding.
We connect all the wires - preferably by color or with markings, so that it is easier to navigate in the junction box.
Step 4 Chandelier installation.

Installing a chandelier

Now we install the chandelier on the bar, threading the screws through the holes in the bowl, and tightening everything with decorative nuts. First you need to make sure that the wires do not go beyond the boundaries of the bowl anywhere.
Step 5 Wires in a box.

Getting to the wires in the box

We move to the junction box, where we find all the wires coming from the chandelier. We throw the negative (blue) to the common minus, the ground to the common ground, and connect the two phases to the wires that come from the switch and remain unconnected. There is no difference in connection, but you can associate a group of lamps with a specific key. We wouldn't bother with it.

Further, all connections are isolated and the box is closed. We remind you that all work must be carried out only after a preliminary de-energization to avoid injury. Perform a lighting test run. If everything works, then our instruction was useful to you!

Today, in order to advantageously emphasize a particular area in a room, spotlights are used. Connecting a lamp of this type is associated with a lot of advantages inherent in this type of electrical appliances, manifested in the following:

  • in compactness;
  • low cost;
  • a wide variety of sizes and shapes of products;
  • in ease of connection and ease of operation.

In view of the advantages described above, spot light is preferable when choosing local lighting for a room. This is the reason for the popularity of the use of neon lamps.

How to connect the lamp? Familiarize yourself with the methodology and features of this process in more detail.

Design features of electrical appliances

In 99% of cases, such light is installed in special suspended or overhead systems designed on the ceiling. The organization of this design implies the formation of a niche between the ceiling and the finishing material itself. In view of this, when planning this type of lighting, false ceilings, arches, niches and walls are constructed, sheathed with plasterboard sheets, MDF boards and plastic panels.

Time makes adjustments to the vision of a modern interior, because designers are already equipping furniture elements in this way, thereby making them even more refined and original.

Important! Different types of materials are used as the main structures for the production of spot lighting elements, which makes it possible to integrate products into the interior of any room, regardless of its operational nature.

Let there be light...

Bringing the use of spotlights to a more detailed discussion, it should be noted that such lamps can be equipped with:

  • standard incandescent lamps;
  • halogen elements;
  • LED light sources;
  • energy saving components.

Another distinguishing feature of this design is that the outer shell of the lamp plays the role of a decorative element and at the same time protection that improves heat transfer and helps extend the life of the luminaire set.

Starting installation

When choosing a spot lighting system for installation, determine the required power of the fixtures and the voltage of the bulbs used. Determine whether the mains will be powered from a standard 220V AC, or you will need to install a current-converting installation, which involves the use of a certain amount of space for connecting a luminaire.

Important! Remember that the technical characteristics of indoor-mounted lamps are something you must know by heart. Do not allow devices to be connected to the network if the technical data do not match. This can lead to negative consequences: disable equipment, provoke a short circuit in the wiring.

Do-it-yourself installation

As in any other, it consists in the consistent implementation of a series of repair and electrical work. And besides, the process consists of two main stages that precede the installation of fixtures according to the scheme.

Arrangement of electrical wiring

Being engaged in a more detailed consideration of the method of installing spotlights, note for yourself that in order to connect fixtures, it is necessary to lay power supply wires with a margin (250-300 mm) at the stage of designing ceiling overhangs or arches. So it will be more convenient to carry out further switching.

To ensure the safe connection of the luminaire to the network, the conductors are threaded into special corrugated covers that prevent direct contact of the wires with the metal frame of the ceiling structure. After all, direct contact can damage the insulation of the wiring.

Surface preparation for product installation

In the places intended for connecting LED lamps, holes are made into which products will be mounted in the future.

Depending on the characteristics of the fixtures, the holes are scaled and cut holes of the required shape: round, square, triangular or others. Such work is carried out in accordance with the recommendations of the manufacturer of lighting devices specified in the product data sheet.

To prepare products according to the template, a knife is used, as well as a nail file or a milling crown, clamped in an electric drill chuck.

  • First, make a hole, making a finer fit using a file, sandpaper, a knife, and not forgetting that the lamp body must fit snugly into the hole made.
  • When connecting, the front surface is provided with a protective ring to minimize the level of tension and prevent damage to the film.

Wiring diagram for spotlights

There is nothing complicated in the connection scheme for spot lighting. Installation of electric luminaires over a network involves switching devices to a multi-core cable at three points:

  • phase;
  • zero;
  • grounding.

Whether the connection is made correctly can be checked by monitoring the corresponding indicators on the terminal block of the lighting device - L, N, PE.

The available number of units of lighting devices are connected to each other according to a parallel circuit: each of the subsequent devices is connected to the previous one using a loop (from phase to phase, from zero to zero, etc.).

Using this technique, it is possible to connect luminaires to a switch with an independent number of branches with an unlimited number of lighting spotlights. Restrictions are put forward only to indicators of the total power consumption of the power supply system.

By connecting the light source to the conductors, it can be placed in a pre-prepared connector and fixed using a special spring-loaded bracket.

  1. When choosing fixtures, consider the amount of free space for their installation. Products should easily fit into the hole and freely located in the box. All permissible norms and sizes are indicated in the product passport, therefore, there are no difficulties in finding such information.
  2. Before installing the fixtures according to the scheme, turn off the current and make the connection by removing the voltage.
  3. Approach the choice of lighting fixtures responsibly. Consider the interior design features of the room.
  4. Do not forget about the need to use additional materials - cables, corrugations, terminal blocks, boxes that technically meet the stated requirements.

If you do not deviate from the instructions described and follow these recommendations, according to the technology for installing lighting electrical appliances, then the process of connecting halogen lamps will not seem too complicated for you.

Installation of luminaires equipped with motion sensors

This type of lighting is becoming more and more popular. Motion sensors are being introduced into human life more and more. Ultra-sensitive plumbing, light that reacts to movement, today are already becoming a familiar attribute of a modern home.

Immediately before installation, electrical wiring is performed to connect fixtures with motion sensors. In this case, the supply cable, which is energized, is removed.

Following the connection diagram given in the article, the installation of electric lamps becomes possible due to the presence of an RF motion sensor mounted inside the lighting device. This structural detail acts as a switch. This feature is easy to rank among the advantages of lamps with After all, in order to put them into action, there is no need to implement a complex circuit. All that needs to be done is to make a request.

Master electricians say that any of the existing connection schemes recommended for a classic motion sensor can be easily applied when connecting a ceiling lamp.

Integrated motion sensors

The touch sensor itself is a switch-off device. But in our case, an interesting version of the standard design with a housing that is mounted in a socket.

The peculiarity of the connection is that it is connected to a gap that goes to the phase conductor luminaire in the same way as a traditional light switch. But there is one hitch here. The internal electronic circuit of such a device can only function in the case of a full power supply of 220V. A mounted switch in parallel sometimes copes with its task, but installing several, for example, two motion sensors, will be more practical for walk-through rooms.

The task can be simplified by mounting a motion sensor in place of the old one-button switch. In this case, the need to replace the two-core cable laid to it from the junction box with a three-core wire is eliminated.

Powering the lighting fixture through a switch

It happens that in the design of some of the interconnection schemes to an electric lighting device (wall or ceiling), the details of the supply of a zero protective cable (grounding) are missed. Most people think that doing such work will not cause difficulties, because the master used to deal with an electrician.

In a traditional electrical wire, this is a yellow conductor with a green longitudinal stripe. On the electrical appliance, the place of its connection is indicated by the corresponding symbol - N.

Elementary scheme for connecting an electric lighting device

The easiest way to connect a luminaire through a switch is to connect using two wires. This is the best schematic for a single lamp fixture.

When developing, manufacturers take into account the requirements according to the standard, so replacing the classic “one-button” with an electrical appliance will not cause difficulties.

If you have old wiring and only one wire sticks out of the ceiling, and redoing it is long and difficult, you can connect only one powerful lighting fixture to the network cable, which can also be mounted in a suspended structure.

The effect of such a "luminary" will not be as striking as with a spotlight. And all the bulbs will light up at the same time as the switch is turned to the “on” position.

If the possibility of upgrading the wiring is no longer possible, then the switch can be replaced with a dimmer - a regulator of the brightness level of the light emitted by the light bulb. On the market, it is easy to pick up a model in the form of a key, a pedal or a round knob. When choosing such a regulator, it is necessary to monitor the technical compliance of the power element of the connected lamp.

Note! Such devices cannot be used together with energy-saving, LED and fluorescent lamps. Therefore, for spot lighting, this option is not preferable. It is better to choose a touch switch that only works in two “on / off” modes. Such regulators are connected according to the classical scheme using two wires and easily replace conventional one-button switches.

Now you know what a spot light is, how to properly mount fixtures, and how to work with electric lighting wiring diagrams. After studying the detailed instructions for working with LED lamps, even a novice master will feel more confident and will be able to complete the upcoming volume of tasks 20% faster.

Now it is rare to see a light bulb hanging from the ceiling alone. Everyone wants to live in a beautiful environment and, in an effort to decorate their home, they acquire multi-track chic chandeliers. But here's the problem - you have to pay more for electricity!

But this happens only for those owners who choose such chandeliers incorrectly or connect them to a single-key switch, and in this case all the lamps turn on at once at the same time.

A competent and thrifty owner will make the right choice and connect the chandelier to two-key switch so that you can turn on one lamp or several or all at once, if the case requires it.

Chandelier selection.

If only two wires come out of the chandelier you have chosen, then such a chandelier is usually connected to a single-gang switch. Although you can remake it yourself for a two-key one.

If three wires come out of the chandelier, then this is what you need.

There is also a third option - this is when a lot of wires come out of the chandelier, connected in pairs. This is also your option.

What is the difference between the second and third options?

In the third option, each pair of wires is connected to a separate lamp, which gives you the opportunity to make combinations of switching on lamps yourself. In the second option, the choice is small - usually either one lamp or several or all at once are turned on here, depending on which scheme the chandelier manufacturer has assembled.

The second condition for the possibility of connecting a chandelier to a two-gang switch is the presence of three wires suitable both for the switch and coming out of the ceiling. There are still cases when a cable with four wires comes out to the place of suspension of the chandelier. One of them is usually yellow-green (this is grounding) and such cables are laid in new-built houses. It happens that in the chandeliers there is a wire of the same color - these wires must be connected to each other. If there is no fourth wire in the chandelier, then simply insulate it with electrical tape in the supply cable.

If suddenly in your house it turned out that only two wires ("phase" and "zero") fit the chandelier's suspension point, and you still want to connect the chandelier to a two-gang switch, then this is also possible, only then you will have to do it yourself in some way bring another wire there or replace the existing wiring with a three-core cable.

So, we checked the wiring, decided on the choice of the chandelier - it's time to start installation.

For work you will need:

3-core cable;

ordinary screwdriver;

indicator screwdriver;

pliers or side cutters;

insulating tape;

Installation and connection.

Chandelier with 3 wires and color coding

Let's consider the third option - connecting a chandelier with two lamps and three wires to a two-gang switch with color-coded wires.

Here you can immediately start by turning off the voltage, then you should connect the blue neutral wire of the chandelier to the blue wire of the electrical wiring. Connect the two remaining wires according to the colors. On the switch, connect the phase wire (see color marking above) to the common contact. Connect the remaining two wires to the remaining contacts of the switch. Set everything in place, turn on the voltage, check.

In any of the connection options, one should not forget about the insulation of the wire. Bare parts of different wires should never come into contact with each other. Moreover, after installing the chandelier, there simply should not be any exposed parts of the wiring, all places of twisting must be reliably protected. For this, it is easiest to use polyethylene terminal blocks.

The need for wire insulation

The connection of wires with a terminal block occurs through a brass sleeve with 2 screws located inside. In such a terminal block, wires are placed and twisted on both sides. At the same time, all bare parts remain insulated, and for twisting, which means that it is not necessary to strip a large surface of the wire.

Similarly, the connection is made if three wires come from each horn of the lamp. Here, all the blue wires are twisted together, and the rest are distributed as convenient. The connection diagram is clearly visible in Figure 4.

Wiring for a 4-wire chandelier

The fourth option is a chandelier with two lamps and four wires, wiring for four wires. We do everything as in the previous paragraph. In addition to the steps taken, you need to connect the yellow-green wire of the chandelier to the corresponding wire of the electrical wiring. The same applies to the switch.

Luminaire with remote control

Usually they ask a lot of questions about how to connect a chandelier with a remote control, because such lamps are often used in apartments. A chandelier with a control panel is connected to the wires as usual. Therefore, you first need to connect the wires in the chandelier with the wiring wires, choosing one of the above options.

It does not matter which switch is installed. To control a chandelier with a remote control, it is necessary that the chandelier is always energized. Therefore, switches are not used together with the control panel.

You can connect the wires between the junction box and the switch directly, or leave the keys as they are. But then you will have to constantly use the switch to supply voltage and only then take the control panel or keep the switch on all the time.

Sometimes a fan is included with the remote control. For separate use of a chandelier and a fan, different switch keys are used. The control and wiring diagram will be like this.

Connection. Video

The video below will tell you how to connect the chandelier to the switch yourself and what is required for this.

Thus, the same algorithm is used to install a chandelier with 3 horns. First, the purpose of each wire is determined, then the premises are de-energized, a lighting device is connected and a switch is installed. All these operations are carried out with strict observance of safety regulations.

Chandeliers are an integral part of the interior. The point is not only in beauty and aesthetics, but also in a great opportunity to illuminate the room well. However, not everyone can connect the chandelier correctly. If fixtures with one lamp or two wires do not cause difficulties, then the presence of three can confuse even experienced electricians.

Purpose of wires on the ceiling

There are a huge number of shapes and variations of lamps. Starting from the usual, with ordinary incandescent lamps, to multi-color diode ones. The breadth and originality of human thoughts knows no bounds. But what will even the most luxurious chandelier cost if it is connected incorrectly.

In an apartment or a private house, they can come out of the ceiling 2,3, or 4 wires. There are standards by which their purpose is determined:

  • Black, brown or gray is usually a phase. May be marked with the letter "L".
  • Blue, blue or their shades indicate that this is a neutral wire. It has the letter designation "N".
  • Green, yellow or yellow-green is the "earth" or, as they say, the protective zero. Referred to as "PE".

Colors may not meet the accepted standard.. For example, in some countries, the designation has a different meaning if the wiring was done by an unqualified person, or if the cable with the desired color was not available during installation.

To determine the purpose of the wires without reference to color, you will need the following tools:

  • multimeter;
  • indicator screwdriver;
  • stripper or knife for stripping insulation;
  • pliers;
  • insulating tape;
  • terminal block;
  • insulating tubes or cambric.

If three wires come out of the ceiling, and the switch is two-gang, then two wires will be "phase" and one "zero"". Using a multimeter, it will not be difficult to determine their purpose. You can do this with an indicator screwdriver by touching it to bare wires. The switches must be in the "on" position.

To determine where is “phase” and where is “zero” using a multimeter tester, you need to put the device in the “volts” position and select any two wires. If numbers (≈220 V) appear on the display, then one of them is “zero”, and one is “phase”. Further, without taking away one of the probes from the wire, we move the second probe to another. If the value appears again, the “phases” were moved, and the “zero” was constantly pressed.

If the readings appear on the device, both wires are “phases”. You can verify this by moving one of the probes to the adjacent cable - readings of ≈220 V should appear.

In a situation where only two wires come out of the ceiling, and a switch with one key means one of them is "zero", the other is "phase". Determining the "phase" is easy with an indicator screwdriver.

Wires on a chandelier

Depending on the type of chandelier, the number of wires in it will be different. This suggests that you can connect it in different ways. The most common question in this case is how to connect a chandelier with 3 wires, it requires more detailed consideration.

If there are only two wires in the lamp, the “phase” must be connected to one wire, “zero” to the other. The switch at the same time must be single.

If the lighting device is three-horned or more, there will be several conclusions. Then the question arises, how to connect a chandelier with 3 wires or more.

Unlike wires in the ceiling, the lamp is always There is a color and letter designation. If a ground wire comes out of the ceiling (yellow, green or yellow-green), then the one similar to it on the lamp is connected to it. Further, the connection of a chandelier with three wires is carried out according to the scheme: we connect the "ground" to the "ground" on the ceiling, the "phase" to the "phase" wire, "zero" to "zero".

Connecting a chandelier with four wires or more

Two wires come out of each chandelier horn, as a rule, it is a single blue and brown (black). Although it is possible that the colors may be different. In order to save money and convenience, multi-track lighting fixtures are connected to two-gang switches.

If controlled by a double switch, all luminaire wires are required divide into three groups. One group is "zero", and two are "phases". All "phases" must be assembled together, after which the remaining wires are divided into two groups. Please note that cables of a different color do not fall into any of the three groups. You need to understand that from one group one part of the bulbs will burn, from the other - the other.

The wiring diagram for a chandelier with a double switch is quite simple. The resulting three groups need connect to the three wires in the ceiling. The main thing here is to remember where are the "phases" and where are the "zero". "Phases", respectively, are connected to the "phases" found on the ceiling, the remaining group "zero" - to "zero" on the ceiling.

What if we have a multi-track chandelier, and only two wires come out of the ceiling? It is necessary not to divide the "phases" into groups, but merge them into one. In this case, the remote control will be single-key, and all the lights will be on when turned on together without the possibility of dividing into two groups. In this case, it will not work to connect the chandelier to a double switch, or only one of the two keys will work.

Thus, the question of how to connect a chandelier to a two-gang switch can be solved independently without the help of specialists. The main thing, always keep safety in mind. All work must be done with the switches and machines turned off. Under voltage, you can work only when it is necessary to determine the "phase" and "zero". At the same time, it is strictly forbidden to touch bare wires.
