Mounting blinds on windows: instructions with and without drilling. Installing horizontal blinds How blinds are attached to windows

Hide

In order for horizontal blinds to serve for a long time, you need to know how to hang horizontal blinds with your own hands correctly.

And also in our article we will look at how to wash horizontal blinds and repair them yourself.

Installing horizontal blinds - step by step instructions

How to fix horizontal blinds? Experts call 3 ways:

Mounting methods

1) To the ceiling.

2) To Wall.

3) Into the window opening.

Before direct installation of horizontal blinds, you must do the following:

Brackets

1. Determine the dimensions of the horizontal blinds (width and height) based on the features of the window opening.

If you want to install horizontal blinds directly in the window opening, then it is advisable to subtract 1−2 cm from the planned width of the structure (correction of uneven slopes).

2. Determine the best location for the controls - left or right.

3. In addition, you need to decide on the type of attachment:

Set of tools

Either using standard twist brackets, or it will be mounted to tilt-and-turn sashes with drilling, or mount to tilt-and-turn sashes without drilling.

4. Determine the length of the control mechanism. The standard length is 2/3 of the height of the blinds.

Please note that the possible minimum width of the blinds is 22 cm, and the maximum is 220 cm, with a guarantee of trouble-free operation. Of course, you can use 300 cm, but without a guarantee. And the height is 250 cm (maximum), if with a guarantee; and without it - 300 cm.

Horizontal blinds - how to install step by step

Now let's look at how to attach horizontal blinds with our own hands in all three ways:

But first, prepare the necessary tools:

  • Roulette,
  • Pencil,
  • Hacksaw for metal,
  • Building level,
  • Drill,
  • Scissors,
  • Fasteners.

Installing twist brackets

1) Install twist brackets on the upper part of the window sash, and corners, i.e., lower plastic brackets, on the lower part of the sash.

2) Fasten the cables in the special bushings.

3) Install these bushings through the springs into the holes along the edges of the upper cornice.

4) Attach the curtain rod to the brackets.

5) Pass the cable through the holes along the edges of the planks.

6) Insert a second set of bushings into the holes of the lower twist brackets, threading a cable through them, which is then fixed with a screw.

7) Attach the hook of the handle to the control gear.

8) Place the handle holder (on the plate) on the sash.

9) Check the functionality of the finished horizontal blinds.

9) Use the screws to fix the cable in the bushings.

10) Attach the pen holder.

11) Check how all the elements of the resulting design work.

Conclusion: it is not difficult to install horizontal blinds, the instructions are quite simple!

How to remove horizontal blinds?

Removing the blinds

Before you wash the horizontal blinds (you can watch the video here :) they must be removed. We'll show you how to do it right. Immediately, we note that it is much more difficult to dismantle horizontal blinds than vertical ones, since the latter have a rather simple device. You can read more about this in the article on our website.

First, let's look at how to remove horizontal blinds from a window without brackets:

1. Unfasten the curtain rods from the brackets that secure the blinds.

2. Remove the decorative cover, if there is one at the attachment point.

3. Raise the planks and, while holding them, locate the tabs on the tabs on the top edge.

4. Pull the latches first towards you and then to the right.

5. Pull the curtains down and forward.

6. Remove the product from the window and close it.

In addition to the method described above, you can also remove horizontal blinds together with brackets:

Usually, for the installation of horizontal blinds, their entire structure, a standard metal corner and hexagonal self-tapping screws are used, which only need to be unscrewed.

Remove the shutters.

If you have a roof window or a window structure with a plastic profile, then often horizontal blinds are installed with removable clips using a clamping wrench turned clockwise.

Locate this key on the clamps and turn it carefully in the opposite direction.

How to clean horizontal blinds - detailed instructions

After you have removed the blinds, proceed to cleaning them. However, we note that there are different options for the care of horizontal blinds, depending on their material.

How to clean horizontal aluminum blinds?

These blinds are easier to clean if they are not removed from the window structure. So let's get started:

  • Vacuum the blinds to remove any accumulated dust.
  • Close the blinds tightly to avoid splashing the window.
  • Prepare a soapy solution to which you add a little cleaning agent.
  • Apply this solution with a sponge to each plank.
  • Leave it on for a couple of minutes to let the greasy or greasy film disappear.
  • Thoroughly wash each plank, securing it to the back. Otherwise, a kink will appear on it.
  • Rinse the blinds in warm, clean water.
  • Wipe the washed blinds dry.

Cleaning metal blinds can be quite simple. If it is possible to remove them from the structure. Then:

  • Prepare a solution of dish detergent in the bathroom and place your blinds in it for 1 to 2 hours.
  • Rinse each plank with a soft sponge. So, you get rid of plaque.
  • Rinse the blinds and leave to dry. Or wipe them dry and reattach.

How to wash plastic horizontal blinds?

Maintenance of plastic horizontal blinds

Plastic blinds do not require any special maintenance. They perfectly tolerate cleaning and can be easily washed, even with a mild soap solution.

  • Close the blinds and vacuum.
  • Wipe with a damp sponge or a cloth soaked in soapy water.

If your blinds are heavily soiled, then they should be removed from the window. And then washed in the bathroom, just like in the case of horizontal aluminum products.

How to wash horizontal wooden blinds?

Cleaning wooden horizontal blinds with a vacuum cleaner

Wooden blinds are the most expensive and must be looked after carefully. Be aware that it is strictly forbidden to use water, because under its influence, wooden planks can change color and deform. If you want to keep the original appearance of your blinds, then:

Wipe them with a clean, dry cloth, or just vacuum them.

However, we note that sometimes it is allowed to use a special tool for cleaning unvarnished wooden surfaces.

Repair of horizontal blinds

At the moment, the market is saturated with a variety of components for different types of blinds. Therefore, you can repair horizontal blinds with your own hands. You just need to identify the faulty part, find it and simply replace it with a new one.

However, when disassembling the blinds, be sure to remember the location of all parts and the order of disassembly. Otherwise, you will make a lot of mistakes when reassembling. It is best to photograph the entire disassembly process.

Horizontal blinds

For repairs you will need:

Screwdriver,

Pliers,

Wire. Bend it in half so that there is an eyelet, like in a needle.

This is necessary to thread the cord.

And now we will consider the main damage to horizontal blinds and instructions for their elimination:

1. The blade from the planks stopped working - the swivel mechanism was damaged. To repair it, do the following:

1) Remove the side plugs from the top cornice.

2) Pull the axle out of the swivel mechanism using pliers.

3) Remove the mechanism. To do this: unclench the sides of the cornice.

4) Take a new mechanism and assemble the structure in reverse order.

2. The lamellae are damaged:

1) Remove the blinds.

2) Squeeze the cord plug from the bottom lamella, cut off the end knots and pull the cord out.

3) Take out the damaged strips and replace them with new ones.

4) Pass the cord through the holes in the straps and plugs.

5) Tie knots and insert plugs into the bottom lamella.

3. The ladder broke:

1) Remove the blinds and the side plugs from the upper eaves.

Kitchen with horizontal blinds

2) Remove the upper ends of the ladder from the support, which is located on the axis of the swivel mechanism.

3) Disconnect the curtain from the curtain rod and remove the cord.

4) Pull the ladder out to the side, while holding the planks in your hand. Otherwise, the whole canvas will crumble.

5) Install the clamps on the new ladder in the same way as they were installed on the old one.

In addition to washing the blinds, it is necessary to do window cleaning from time to time. How to do it better,

After you, most likely, you will immediately have a question about the need to install blinds. In most cases, blinds are not just an element of window decoration - they are a means of protecting from the sun, it is about blinds that we want to tell you today, telling about their advantages, types and methods of DIY installation.

The content of the article:

Do I need to install blinds on windows

Someone thinks that blinds are just a necessity, and someone - on the contrary, that they are not needed, so who is right in this situation !? In fact, there are no right and wrong in this situation, since the need to install blinds is an exclusively subjective opinion. This opinion is based on two factors: personal taste and necessity. Thus, we can draw a small conclusion that blinds are installed in two cases: if you like them and / or if you need them. Let's take a closer look at these two factors.

Many people like blinds because of their beauty, because there are several types of them, which we will talk about a little later. With the help of blinds, you can visually decorate the window, especially using blinds of a certain color or with various patterns, which will perfectly fit into the interior of the room, and also "thematically" transform the window. Many people prefer blinds, because they can be used to replace curtains and curtains that many are already tired of.

As for the need for blinds, they help protect from the sun's rays. If your windows face the east, south or west side, then in the summer, direct sunlight will bring you great discomfort.

First, due to direct sunlight, the air temperature in the room rises significantly. By installing blinds, the temperature in the room will be several degrees lower, as they will prevent direct sunlight from entering. In addition, blinds are necessary if you have an air conditioner, otherwise it will cool the air in the room longer, and the reached temperature will be quickly lost. Therefore, in order not to force the air conditioner to work unnecessarily, it is necessary to install blinds.

Secondly, due to direct sunlight, the room becomes very bright and discomfort is experienced from this, especially negatively for those whose windows face the east side, when the sun begins to shine in the eyes in the early morning. Also, blinds are necessary if you have a not very beautiful landscape outside your window - the blinds will hide all this beautifully. Well, another small positive thing about the blinds is that they close the room from the sun's rays, so furniture, paint, wallpaper and window profiles on the inside are less prone to fading.

Types of blinds

Today there are 3 types of window blinds:
  • Horizontal;

  • Vertical;

  • Fabric.
Blinds can be made from a wide variety of materials:
  • Aluminum;

  • Plastic;

  • Wood;

  • Textile;

  • Bamboo;

  • Etc.
The choice of the type and material of blinds depends solely on your preferences. If you prefer classics and simplicity, then these are uniquely horizontal aluminum blinds. If you do not plan to hang curtains and curtains or want to install blinds instead, then the best option is vertical blinds. If you want something beautiful and elegant - choose fabric blinds, they are very beautiful, moreover, they are unlike the previous two blinds options. For those who prefer something new or your room is made in some style, we recommend opting for wood or bamboo blinds.

Do-it-yourself blinds installation

An integral part of the installation of blinds is their measurement. If the measurement is made incorrectly, then it may not only not look aesthetically pleasing, but also negatively affect the window profile.

Measurement of horizontal and fabric blinds

There are 2 options for fixing blinds: on the glazing beads and on the profile. Of course, if you want to attach blinds to glazing beads, then you must be very careful in choosing the length of the self-tapping screw, since a long self-tapping screw can damage the glass of the glass unit, which ultimately will lead to depressurization of the entire glass unit and negatively affect its thermal insulation properties. Installation of blinds on the profile of a plastic window is easier, there is no danger, but it is one thing when a hole is made in a glazing bead that can be easily replaced, and another when the hole is in the profile. Personally, we recommend that you give preference to attaching the blinds to glazing beads, and, if possible, to fasteners with double-sided tape, this method does not require making extra holes in the window.

The width of the horizontal blinds is measured: from the left edge of the left glazing bead to the right edge of the right glazing bead. In the same way, the height of the blinds is measured: from the upper part of the upper glazing bead to the lower part of the lower glazing bead. It is important to consider one point: how you will attach the blinds. If you want to reinforce the blinds on the glazing beads, and at the same time install the lower clips also on the glazing beads, then the length of the blinds must strictly correspond to the distance from the bases of the glazing beads.

We decided to show the measurement of the blinds in the picture below. Glazing beads are shown in blue - plastic strips that fix the glass unit to the profile. The red lines show the boundaries along which it is necessary to measure the window, taking into account our recommendations.

Measurement of vertical blinds

In turn, measuring vertical blinds is an easier process, since there are no special nuances here. The peculiarity of the measurement is how you want to fix the blinds. There are three types of mounting for vertical blinds:

  • To the top of the window slope;

  • Above the window opening (like a regular cornice);

  • To the ceiling.
Each of these options has its own advantages - consider them.

If you want to limit direct sunlight into the apartment, and at the same time prefer vertical blinds, then it is best to attach them to the upper part of the window slope - this type of fastening has a more beautiful appearance. If you want to completely hide the window behind the blinds, or you have plastic slopes, then you can fix the vertical blinds above the window opening. If you want to install blinds instead of curtains and stretch them along a large window opening or over the entire wall, then you need to attach the blinds to the ceiling.

If the blinds are to be installed in the window opening, then their width should be equal to the width of the window opening, and the length should be strictly from the upper slope to the window sill, even a little shorter so that they do not cling to the window sill. If you want the blinds to protrude beyond the perimeter of the window opening, then the width of the blinds must be made with an allowance of 15-20 cm, and you can make the height either with an allowance of 20-30 cm more than the height of the window opening, or even make the blinds to the floor. If you want blinds to the floor, then we recommend giving preference to blinds on the whole wall - such blinds and the type of their attachment will look very beautiful.

When your measurements are ready, you can go to the company that manufactures the blinds, or you can order them through the online store, which will be cheaper and easier. The only thing that you will need to choose is the color of the blinds and to clarify whether the fastening materials are included with the blinds.

Blinds installation

How to install blinds on plastic windows? Now let's get down to the fun part - editing. Horizontal and vertical blinds have different mounting methods, so we will tell you about them separately.

Installation of horizontal blinds

To install horizontal blinds, you will need a screwdriver or screwdriver and pencil. The installation procedure is very simple. We put brackets on the upper part of the blinds and measure in which part to screw in the self-tapping screw and mark it with a pencil. It is very good if the brackets are attached to one self-tapping screw in order to make fewer holes in the window. So, when the attachment point is outlined, we check the correctness of everything and remove the brackets. First we take one bracket, apply it to the intended area and screw in a self-tapping screw. After that, we do the same with the second bracket. Then we put the blinds on the brackets and in the same way we fix the clamps on the sides from the bottom of the blinds. We check if everything works, and proceed to the installation of blinds on the rest of the window.

As for horizontal fabric blinds, the principle of their installation is somewhat different from the above. As a rule, this type of blinds is attached to brackets, which are fixed to the window on an adhesive base, that is, simply put, they are glued to the profile. As well as horizontal blinds, fabrics are fixed at the bottom.

You will learn more about the installation of horizontal and fabric blinds from the videos below.

Installation of vertical blinds

Installation of vertical blinds has 2 types of installation. The first type of installation is when the eaves of vertical blinds are attached to the ceiling or to the upper slope. The second type of installation is when the curtain rod of the blind is attached to brackets that are fixed to the wall.

In the first type of installation, there are special mounting holes in the middle of the cornice, through which screws are screwed in, fixing the structure to the ceiling or to the slope. To fix the cornice, you need to attach the cornice itself, then you need to outline in which places to make holes for fastening. Use a punch to make holes and drive dowels into them. Please note that if you make holes in the slope with a puncher, then be careful not to break off part of the wall. After you have driven the dowels into the holes, apply the cornice and fix it with screws.

With the second type of installation, you first need to fix the brackets on the wall, after which the cornice is put on them. Before marking the areas in which the brackets will be fixed, it is necessary to attach the cornice and take measurements. After that, we make holes in the designated areas, drive dowels into them and then fix the brackets with a screw. At the end of the installation work, we fix the cornices on the brackets.

The next stage in the installation of blinds is their assembly. Unlike horizontal and fabric blinds, vertical blinds need to be assembled, but not difficult. To do this, you need to collect all the sliders together and turn them with the notches towards you. Then we take the slats and insert them into the runners, when the slats are tightly fastened, a click will sound. Then weights are inserted into the lower part of the lamellas and fixed with a chain. After that, check the operability of the mechanism and proceed with attaching the decorative panels to the cornice.

Blinds installation video guide

This video demonstrates the installation process of horizontal blinds. In the used installation method, the brackets are attached directly to the profile with self-tapping screws, and not to the glazing beads.

In this video, you can familiarize yourself with the installation of fabric blinds, the brackets of which are also attached to the profile with self-tapping screws, and not glued to it.

The last video will show you how to install and assemble vertical blinds.

A decade ago, blinds were considered exclusively office window decoration. But recently, the lamellas have changed, new design options have appeared. Designers began to use bamboo, linden logs, cherries and fabrics as production materials. It has become fashionable to select models for the arrangement of houses, apartments and public spaces. Turning to a salon or a specialized store for help, you will receive competent advice from a sales consultant for installation, care and selection. In the event that you are going to install blinds on the windows with your own hands, read our article in detail.

You need to know this in advance before installing!

To make the blinds last a long time, try to carefully install them. If you understand the details in advance, the installation process will not take long. The main thing is to take into account the model, the installation method and take this into account in the assembly. If you will be attaching window blinds directly to the wall, you need to make sure that its surface is perfectly flat.

An important point! When buying, be sure to check with a consultant whether all the parts of the mounting headset are included in the kit. There are situations when buying additional mounts is inevitable. It is better to take care of this in advance.

Blinds can be attached in one of four ways:

  • to the ceiling;
  • to Wall;
  • inside the window opening;
  • for each window division.

Which option you choose doesn't matter. It all depends on the individual preferences of the client. Installed on double-glazed windows of various shapes. But the method of fastening is selected individually. The sequence of steps is roughly the same, but there are some distinctive details.

Universal step-by-step steps for installing blinds

  1. Many are convinced that the models are selling standard size and neglect the preliminary measurement of the window. . We want to warn you: take your time, measure the height and width of the window opening.
  2. Be sure to keep in mind that the length of the lamellas should be two centimeters shorter than the length of the window. If you provide for the option of attaching the structure to the wall, then the canvas should cover the window fifteen centimeters on the right and left.
  3. Next, mark the mountings. Make sure that there are no difficulties with the operation of the mechanisms, and they will easily allow you to open the window.
  4. Referring to the markings, attach the necessary parts to the base. Dowels and screws are screwed into the wall or ceiling. Sometimes directly into a double-glazed window. Next, a cornice is hung on them, which holds the structure.
  5. As soon as you finish installing the blinds, check their mechanism.

Installation of blinds on plastic windows

Installation of blinds on plastic windows is a frequent phenomenon. Most modern insulating glass units are made of plastic. This is a fragile material, so you need to work with it carefully. Now we will consider the installation options where drilling is used:

We mount vertical blinds on plastic windows

This is one of the common types. Functional features, wide color palette, ease of care and color combination attract buyers. Therefore, it is common in offices and public organizations. Installation of vertical blinds will not take long.

  1. It is necessary to make markings for fastening the elements.
  2. Next, attach the brackets and cornice.
  3. Put the runners on the cornice, attach the slats to them one by one.
  4. Attach weights to the control handle.
  5. Check the work of the structure.

Mounting scheme for vertical blinds
For a detailed introduction to the installation instructions for vertical blinds, watch the video below:

We mount horizontal blinds on plastic windows

In most cases, horizontal slats are attached to the wall. They are able to close the window opening completely, but at the same time they look aesthetically pleasing and do not "squeeze" the space of the room. There are times when they are mounted to the window. Here, the lamellas are attached to each sash separately. The installation system for horizontal blinds does not differ from vertical options:

  1. We mark the places for fastening.
  2. We fix the brackets.
  3. We put on the cornice on the brackets.
  4. We check the length.
  5. We check the installation and operation of the mechanism.
Mounting scheme

To make sure that the procedure is correct, see the instructional video for installing horizontal models.

We mount blinds on plastic windows without drilling

If for some reason you do not want to drill a wall or a double-glazed window, you can use tape or special brackets. There are L-shaped brackets that are attached to the surface of the glass unit without drilling. They are easy to mount and dismantle thanks to a simple latch. But, they are attached only to those doors that open. To attach the brackets to a closed sash without drilling, use double-sided mounting tape.

Thus, with the help of L-shaped brackets and tape, the integrity of the window profile can be preserved. Mounting on tape is less reliable than others, but if you do not overload the structure, it will last a long time.

Bracket mounting

We mount roller blinds on plastic windows

Roll-up models are installed in almost the same way as vertical ones. One of the most affordable options for installing blinds is on two brackets, which are fastened with self-tapping screws.

  1. We make markup for details.
  2. We attach the brackets to the self-tapping screws (while making sure that they are at the same level, otherwise the blinds will hang crookedly).
  3. Next, we fasten the cornice with the canvas.
  4. We check the work of the structure.

Installation of blinds on wooden windows

Modern models are attached to wooden euro-windows and old Soviet ones. It should be noted right away that when installing on old-style windows, you need to carefully take measurements.

Please note: glazing beads on Soviet wooden windows should not protrude beyond the plane of the frame!

Suitable models for wooden windows are: Isolight, Isotra, Rolled and Rolllight. These are universal models. They fit harmoniously into the interior design regardless of its style. They are distinguished by a simple control mechanism and high performance indicators.

One of the most difficult installations for wooden insulating glass units is fastening to each section. All the necessary parts are included in the headset. Installation principles, as for plastic: using brackets or screws. If you are not afraid to make a hole in the glass unit, you will be happy with the result. With the help of fastening to screws, the structure will serve for a long operational period.

Mounting on brackets is considered less reliable, but it has a huge plus - no holes in the glass unit. When you want to remove the blinds, there will be no defects on the window.

We install blinds on wooden windows

Let's take a closer look at the option using drilling and fastening to screws.

  1. First you need to make a markup for each of the fastening elements.
  2. Make sure that the structure does not interfere with the opening of the window sashes.
  3. Make holes for the screws. Install screws and dowels.
  4. Attach the cornice to them.
  5. Install another fastener at the regulating thread to relieve the structure from the accumulation of stress on that area.
  6. Attach runners and slats to the eaves.
  7. Check the work of the structure.

Using self-tapping screws, it is easier to attach the cornice to the window. Self-tapping screws will not harm the window profile, but work carefully during installation. If you want to remove the lamellas after a while, no problem. After dismantling the structure, the holes are filled with special white silicone glue - and not a single trace of the screws will remain.

Good to know! To begin with, it is better to drill holes according to the marking, and then mount the parts. Screwing in the screws individually is one of the reasons for the appearance of a crack. And this method of installation guarantees the integrity of the plastic.

When the holes are prepared, the brackets are carefully screwed to them. Then the cornice is installed and closed. Next, you need to do the following:

  1. Install the hook in the control mechanism.
  2. Install the cane.
  3. Attach the tip to the reed.
  4. Secure the thread with a knot.
  5. Check the operation of the blinds.

It is not difficult to install the lamella structure if you follow all the requirements and work carefully. Also read the installation instructions, which are necessarily included with any model.

Large windows in an apartment or house are, of course, good. A lot of daylight enters the room, especially if the windows are new from a profile or wood, allowing you to maximize the glass area. However, there is often too much sunlight, especially if the windows face south or east. There are several ways to escape the scorching sun, and the simplest and most optimal of them is to install blinds on the windows with your own hands. Other options include replacing the glass unit with tinted glass or using a tint film. Only this option is much more expensive and not as effective if it is required to completely block the access of sunlight into the room.

Types of blinds and mounting features

At the moment, window manufacturers provide a wide selection of blinds of various configurations and the possibility of making them for specific window sizes. Among the possible variations, there are several main types of blinds:

  • vertical;
  • horizontal;
  • roll (fabric, internal roller shutters).

The option of installing vertical blinds in a residential apartment or your home is rather dubious. Still, they are too strongly associated with office space. However, they are also suitable for some interior design solutions. They are attached above the window, in fact, instead of curtains, which further limits their usefulness.

A wider number of mounting options are provided by the use of horizontal blinds. They can be installed both over the window opening and along the outer edge on the upper slope of the window and directly on the window structure, while installing separate blinds for each sash. The last two options will be perfectly combined with any curtains and curtains, and the choice of the latter type of installation on the window itself will not take up the space on the windowsill at all. Roller shutters are also mounted directly on each glass.

Everyone should choose the appropriate option independently, based on their preferences and requirements.

Common ways of attaching blinds

Having decided on the type of installed blinds, you can go to order them from a good window manufacturer. Better, of course, to turn to the same one that made your windows. To order, you will need to give the detailed window dimensions or the dimensions you require if it comes to blinds installed over the window opening. Blinds are produced quickly enough, the technologies are worked out as well as the production of the windows themselves, especially since the design is quite simple.

Together with the blinds themselves, as a rule, an instruction is also attached, which describes in sufficient detail how to install the blinds. The whole process is quite simple, and everything can be done by hand. If you have some skills in working with a screwdriver, you have the necessary drills, screwdrivers and a ruler with a pencil, then you can start the installation process and you do not need the help of the installer.

It is worth considering in detail the option of installing horizontal blinds directly on the frame of each section of the window and sash. This process is the most complex and intuitive. Note that roller shutters are installed in the same way.

So, the manufacturer's package contains everything you need to install the blinds. The main part is wound with a line and a control chain. All additional parts and screws are packed in bags. Everything is neatly unwound, and all platbands are removed from the curtain rod of the blinds. There are several ways to attach the blinds to the window sash:

  1. fasten with screws;
  2. use brackets for mounting;
  3. in the old fashioned way, by drilling holes in the wall;

In the version with screws, holes will inevitably be made in the window profile. This is a reliable and durable fastening method, especially since the tightness of the entire window and the profile in particular will not suffer. However, for some, this may not work, if only due to the fact that the blinds may have to be removed, and then the holes will already be a significant drawback. In order to avoid such consequences, you can use the option with fixing the blinds on brackets that are attached to the frame in various ways that do not require the creation of holes.

Installation of blinds with drilling plastic or using a screwdriver

In the first version, using screws, it is necessary to place and mark the position of the upper strip of the blinds as accurately as possible, which will be directly attached to the window. The most common and simplest option is the construction, which is located along the upper edge of the glass unit and only with its wing-grooves enters the window frame. Strict binding to the upper part of the sash allows you to independently install the blinds even without special precision and measurements.

If you have a plastic window, then you don't have to think about drilling at all. Most manufacturers have blinds that can be securely fastened with screws screwed directly into the profile.

example of horizontal blinds

Attach the carrier to the glass unit under the very top of the sash frame. Due to the different depths between the plane of the insulating glass unit and the frame, the fixing plates may not fit snugly against the window profile. To eliminate this gap and securely attach the plates to the window, special U-shaped pads are used. They are placed in one to several pieces until the gap is completely closed. Mark the position of the carrier along the lower edges of the mounting plates, so that later you can orient yourself on them and hang the blinds on the window evenly.

You can fix the blinds on plastic windows with screws directly into the profile using a screwdriver. They will easily fit into the plastic, and will hold securely. You can pre-mark the position of the screws and make holes in these places with a drill of about 1.5 mm. This, firstly, will eliminate the likelihood that when the screw is tightened, the carrier will slightly shift and, secondly, it will eliminate the risk of cracking in the profile. The latter case is practically unrealistic for new windows, but it is possible if the windows have stood for several years or are not made of plastic, but of wood.

As soon as the last screw of the fasteners is tightened, you can start securing the fishing line, which will hold the blinds in the plane of the sash when opened. To do this, two holes are made in the lower glazing of the sash along the edges. They should be located strictly under the corresponding line outlets on the supporting system of the blinds. A 2.5 mm drill is used for this. The fishing line, threaded into the blinds system and lowered by the ends to the lower glazing bead, is threaded into the special plugs that are attached and tied in knots. It remains only to thread the plugs into the holes and pull all the fishing line from above. The tension of the line should not be strong, but it should not sag either.

All that is left is to put the platbands on the supporting blinds, check their operation and glue them in suitable attachment points for the control chain and flexible arm.

Installation of blinds without drilling at all

Using brackets can help in fixing blinds to windows without drilling. They are attached to the frame in various ways, and the carrier of the blinds themselves is snapped onto or screwed onto them. This system is good in that later the blinds can be easily detached for major cleaning, or you can completely remove the blinds from the window and use it without them, if necessary. In this case, unnecessary holes will not remain in sight, and the tightness of the window profile will not be disturbed.

The brackets can be fixed, as in the first case, with screws or in one of the following ways:

  1. hook on the upper part of the sash profile (installed only on opening sashes);
  2. use of double-sided tape.

Using the first option allows you to remove even all the brackets from the window in one fell swoop and does not require any additional actions with screwdrivers and holes at all. The second option is similar in installation to the described option when using screws, only gluing is done, not screwing.

Instead of holes for the holding line, special fasteners can be used, which are also glued to the bottom of the frame with double-sided tape.

Blinds installation with wall mounting

Despite the huge number of ingenious fasteners on the market, attaching blinds with a drill remains quite relevant. Everyone knows how to drill correctly, so video instructions will be enough to understand the process. In the video, the craftsmen prefer not to waste time and use a hammer, but we recommend that you do not be too lazy and drill a couple of holes, especially if you want the blinds to last a long time.

A few years ago, blinds began to be replaced by blinds everywhere. Now they can be found in offices and living spaces, in sales areas and on the windows of cafes and restaurants.

Features of installing blinds

In order for the blinds to serve for a long time, one must be extremely careful when installing them. Only a balanced and competent approach will ensure the normal functioning of this rather complex structure. But if you understand all the nuances, then you can install blinds in place very quickly.

Useful information:

The main thing is not to forget about the features of each design and take everything into account in the assembly. The installation process is influenced by the walls, namely how smooth they are. Any deviations from the correct level, both horizontally and vertically, will lead to significant complications during operation. Therefore, if in your case there are obvious curvatures of the walls, it is better to invite a specialist with experience in solving such issues.

If, nevertheless, it is decided to install the blinds on your own, you need to study the available information, delve into all the details, and be patient.

The main ways to install blinds

In choosing the installation method, you must be guided by your preferences. Which method is right for you, you can decide, focusing on the design of the window. In principle, blinds are installed on any windows, including dormers, just the way of fastening will have its own characteristics. The sequence of actions in any case will be similar. Installation methods differ from each other only in some small details.

Sequence of actions for installing blinds

Measurement is the first step

First you need to correctly measure the window opening. Each type of installation has its own nuances that must be observed when measuring. This must be done in order to navigate the size of the blinds and determine the appropriate design.

Advice! From the resulting dimensions of the window opening, 2 cm are subtracted in the event that it is decided to mount the blinds directly into the window opening. This technique allows you to accurately determine the required size, therefore, in the future you will not have to face the problem of too long blinds that rest against the window sill and bend ugly.

If you decide to overlap the blinds, you need to add 5 cm on each side in width so that the window is completely closed. The length will depend on your preference or advice from the designer. It can only be slightly below the windowsill, or it can reach the floor. If it is planned to attach blinds to each window sash separately, then these parts of the window must be measured without taking into account the fittings. When measuring, you should try to be punctual. Only the correct measurement and ideal geometric proportions will give a flawless appearance and smooth functioning of the blinds in the future. If the curvature of the window is revealed during the measurement, the parameters should be tried to fit the correct figure.

Markup - step two

Before installation, mark the mountings. Since the design of any blinds is geometrically verified, the marking must be carried out with millimeter accuracy, symmetry is also of great importance. During the marking, you need to check how the light protection devices that you have prepared will work. Will it be possible, after installing them, to freely open and close the window. Having determined where the regulating cord will be, it is necessary to mark this place and make additional fastening in this area. It is necessary because more pressure will be exerted on this area.

Installation - step three

Guided by the markup, it is necessary to attach all the available parts with the help of dowels, screws. They are screwed into a wall or ceiling. The cornice is hung on these screws. It is used to fix runners and slats, which are simply inserted into the prepared cornice. After the completion of the work, the functionality of the light protection device is checked.

Features of installing blinds on plastic windows

Quite often you have to install blinds on plastic windows. And this is not very easy. In this case, both the blinds themselves and the window can be rendered unusable rather quickly. To avoid unpleasant consequences, all manipulations must be carried out with the utmost care.

The main subtleties that must be taken into account when working with different types of blinds

Vertical blinds

The most popular is the vertical version. It is used in offices, public institutions and in general home settings. Color variations are endless, and the ability to combine colors and shapes gives room to the most daring design ideas. To install vertical blinds, you need to prepare all the necessary elements:

  • cornice;
  • slats;
  • runners;
  • chain.

If the window is of an unusual format, a chain of appropriate length should be provided so that it looks appropriate and does not limit the functionality of the entire device. Vertical blinds can be wall or ceiling mounted. If you decide to mount the device to a wall, you can select an area just above a window or directly near the ceiling. If you attach the cornice to the ceiling, then you need to select an area close to the wall surface at a distance slightly exceeding the width of the lamella.

When the blinds of the required size, color and quality are purchased, markings are made for the fastening elements and they are mounted. When the brackets are installed, a cornice is attached to them. Runners are put on the cornice, slats are hung on them. When hanging the lamellas, the order in which they were in the package must be observed.

Finally, take care of the weights. This type of blinds cannot function without them. These weights are suspended from the bottom of the device by chains on both sides (inside and outside). Everything .

Horizontal blinds

This type of blinds has not lost its relevance for many years. Plastic devices are ubiquitous because they are so easy to match in color and size.

Their design features are sometimes difficult for beginners, and they cannot become this kind of window decoration.

Horizontal blinds are most often installed on the wall, sometimes they are attached directly to the window. They are mounted to the wall if it is necessary to complete the window opening completely. Fastening to a window implies installation to the sash; this option does not limit the functionality of the window itself. It can be opened and closed easily without any obstacle.

Self-installation of horizontal blinds includes the same steps as in the case of the vertical version:

  • froze;
  • markup;
  • fastening the cornice;
  • installation of blinds.

Before you drill a hole, you need to make sure your markings are correct. For this, the fasteners are inserted into the cornice, pulled by the lace. To open the blinds to the end. Next, they are brought to the intended place of attachment and visually assess whether the markings are correctly applied, whether the blinds will open evenly if they are mounted as planned. If there are distortions, you need to apply more correct marks with a pencil. Then the brackets are removed from the eaves, brought them to the marks and precisely put points in those places where the self-tapping screw will be screwed in.

Advice! It is better to first drill the holes, and then bring the part to this place and attach it. This method guarantees the preservation of the integrity of the plastic. After all, screwing a self-tapping screw through a fastener often ends with the appearance of cracks.

When the holes are ready, the brackets are screwed to them and the cornice is hung. It is inserted into the mountings and then closed. Next, perform the following actions:

  • installation of a hook in the control mechanism;
  • installation of a cane in a hook;
  • the tip is attached to a cane;
  • installation of a bell, fastening with a knot;
  • blinds are lowered with a cord;
  • installation of the bottom fixing with a self-tapping screw.

In general, it is not difficult to install blinds. However, you must follow all the requirements, be careful and accurate. You cannot ignore the instructions that are included with the purchased blinds.

Blinds installation without drilling

Some types of modern brackets can be fixed to the frame without drilling. It is very convenient. Such shutter systems are attached to brackets with a conventional snap-fit. In this case, they are not only easy to attach, but also easy to remove in order to wash the window or tidy the lamellas themselves. To attach the brackets without drilling, you need to purchase a special variety of these fasteners. You need L-shaped brackets, they can be easily hooked onto the top of the window sash. It is just as easy to remove them if necessary. But such a bracket cannot be fixed to a blind sash, this is possible only with opening sashes.
