How to make a decorative fireplace with your own hands. Do-it-yourself decorative fireplace - anything is possible! Fireplace insert design with LED strip

Reading time ≈ 3 minutes

Evening, twilight and dancing flame in the fireplace, which does not get boring to look at. The room is unusually cozy, a cup of hot cocoa in hand, what could be better? Many people think that a fireplace is a luxury available only to wealthy private homeowners. This is not so, it can be installed in an ordinary apartment, even a one-room apartment, although it will be decorative without a chimney, pipes and valves, but the main details - a firebox, a portal, a shelf will be present. Even a woman can make a decorative fireplace with her own hands. Many ladies handle construction tools as well as men.

What can be used to make a decorative fireplace?

Brick will do, and not necessarily fireproof; lovers of eco-style will prefer wood. If an edged board remains after the repair, it can also be used. A board with pieces of bark will look interesting, it will create a feeling of unity with nature. A transparent vase, an old aquarium that has already been thrown away - everything can turn into a cozy hearth. Sometimes a fireplace is required for a children's party, creating a Christmas atmosphere. It is above him that the kids hang stockings for gifts. In this case, you will need cardboard, plywood. It will take very little time to build a hearth. The easiest way out is to purchase decorative items and glue them to the wall.

Drawing

Asking yourself the question of how to make a decorative fireplace with your own hands, you first need to draw a sketch, calculate the amount of material required. The hearth should look harmonious, fit into the interior of the room, not be an alien element in it. It is placed in niches, near the wall, in the corner, where it does not interfere. For a small room, an almost flat hearth with a firebox depth of up to 30 cm is suitable; it is visually enlarged due to a mirror installed inside. In order to fully enjoy the play of light, the firebox must be at the level of the seated person's face. The optimal portal width is one and a half meters.

You can see a photo of a decorative fireplace with your own hands on our website. This will give someone an impetus to action, help determine which hearth is suitable for your apartment.

The best material for a fireplace is drywall

Most often, drywall is used for an artificial hearth.

It is easy to cut with an ordinary stationery knife. After wetting the part, you can give it the desired shape. For the "skeleton" of a falshkamin, you will need a profile, its trimmings will go to the stiffening ribs, braces.

Plasterboard sheets are attached to the frame with self-tapping screws.

The seams between the sheets, the ends of the fireplace, the attachment points of the self-tapping screws are putty, and the decorative fireplace with your own hands from drywall is almost ready.

The most exciting stage of work begins - decorative finishing.

The hearth can be painted, pasted over with foil, applied with artificial stone, pieces of glass or porcelain. Polyurethane stucco molding will look spectacular, especially if it is painted in bronze and silver.

The video posted on our website will help you make a decorative fireplace with your own hands. The grill will give the hearth authenticity.

The mantelpiece is made of artificial or natural stone, MDF, wood, plasterboard with tiles or porcelain stoneware trim. A backlight is mounted in the firebox, or candles are placed. And you can enjoy the play of light or flame.

You can look at the fire endlessly, but few people can afford such a luxury in an ordinary apartment - it is too difficult to get permission, and a lot of money will be required. There is a low-budget way out - to make an imitation of a fireplace. A portal is built, similar to a real one, electrical devices, candles or bio-fireplaces are installed inside. These structures are called differently: artificial, decorative or false fireplace. This idea has become very popular in recent years - you can make a decorative fireplace with your own hands in a few days, you can get by with a very small amount.

What the portal is made of

You can make a false fireplace portal from any material. Indeed from any - even from an old cabinet or table. But the following materials are most often used:

They make portals for a false fireplace and from plastic panels, wood or cardboard. But they are used much less often. You can even use glass and metal, but they are more difficult to work with.

What to put inside

No matter how beautiful the fireplace portal is, without fire, or at least its imitation, it has an unfinished look. There are several options:

Decorative fireplace made of plywood: photo report

An electric fireplace with an imitation of a flame was purchased. It was decided to frame it from plywood. Furniture plywood with a thickness of 8 mm was used. The homemade portal was made in a few hours, its finishing took almost two days.

A frame is cut out of plywood according to the dimensions of the front panel of the fireplace. At the bottom, the frame is 10 cm wider, on the other three sides by 7 cm.

Side details are cut to the outer dimensions of the frame. The screen of the electric fireplace should be slightly "recessed" deep into the structure, and these details are the front of the portal.

We collect all three parts into a single whole. To do this, you need a block of 10 * 20 mm and a strip of plywood, 7 cm wide. From all this, we collect the front wall of the false fireplace.

We make the rest of the frame under the existing front panel. To add rigidity, we put jumpers at the top, along the upper edge of the front panel. We also install a bar at the bottom. The platform under the fireplace body rests on it. We trim the side walls with cut-to-size pieces of plywood.

Actually, a decorative fireplace with your own hands is almost ready. Finishing work remained. Ceramic tiles of two types were chosen for finishing - gray "stone-like" and white "brick-like". We begin to glue it on liquid nails. The work is progressing slowly - you have to cut it into small pieces.

Partially cutting is obtained on a tile cutter, but often you have to use a grinder, and this is dusty, requires concentration - you cannot saw off any more, and the edge must be even. The edges of cut tiles that remain open are sanded. And this is time again. Therefore, facing takes a long time, the work is tedious.

Almost halfway through the work, an insight came: to make the corner laid out by the tiles look neat, the edges of the tiles must be grinded at 45 °. Cutting with a grinder at 45 ° is very inconvenient, much easier with a circular one (found at a neighbor). Then the joint turns out, if not ideal (due to chips), then much more attractive.

All the seams between the tiles were filled with grout of a suitable color, the joints began to look great. A table top is installed as a top panel. It turned out a false fireplace and at the same time a TV stand. The result is pleasing.

Artificial plasterboard fireplace

Plasterboard and profiles allow you to create decorative fireplaces of any size and configuration. First of all, you need to decide what size the portal you want to make, draw it on a sheet of paper or in one of the design programs, put down the dimensions, think over the type of decoration. Only then, according to the finished drawing, you can start work. Do it right.

Calculation of proportions and preparatory work

To make it easier to estimate the proportions, you can use the finished drawing. It is possible and necessary to change the dimensions according to your conditions - this is not in which all dimensions must be observed for normal operation, but only its imitation. So we can safely adjust the dimensions to our own ideas and the dimensions of the "fire" source.

If an electric fireplace will be inserted into the portal, it is necessary to bring the power line to this area in advance. When laying the cable, use the laying rules: lead the wires to the outlet from above, strictly vertically (not at an angle or arbitrarily). In this case, when attaching the drywall profiles to the wall, you will definitely not get into the wiring, since it is visually easy to determine its location - above the outlet. Fasteners are simply not installed in this space.

Frame

If you are going to make a portal for candles, the dimensions can be even smaller. One of the drawings of the candle fireplace in the following drawing.

First, draw the main lines of the portal on the wall. Then, on them we fasten the starting profile cut into pieces (in section it looks like the letter "P" without shelves on the sides).

Then, according to the drawing, we create a volumetric frame for a false fireplace. The vertical strips are immediately installed, marking the dimensions of the portal. The same frame is assembled on the floor as on the wall. The dimensions are in the drawing, but it will be useful to compare them with the actual ones so that there are no distortions. The finished frame is installed at the desired distance, fixed using short sections of the profile, creating a volumetric box.

In the last turn, a frame is assembled for a small podium in front of the "firebox" of a decorative fireplace. If you do it earlier, it will be inconvenient to work.

Features of working with gypsum board

Often questions arise when creating arches. To obtain a rounded line, the sidewalls of the profile are cut every 5-6 cm, leaving the "back" intact. In this form, it bends easily. During installation, each "petal" is attached to the crossbeam (on both sides).

After the frame is ready, we sheathe it with drywall. It is cut with an ordinary clerical knife. In addition to it, you also need a long ruler. We mark on the drywall the line along which it must be cut off. We apply a ruler to it and draw along it with a knife. The main task is to cut the top sheet of cardboard, there is no need to cut through the gypsum. A block is placed under the cut line, they knock on the sheet from one side or the other. The plaster breaks along the cut line, all that remains is to fold it and cut off the second elephant of the cardboard.

Rounded lines on drywall can be cut with a jigsaw, if any, or the plaster can be broken off in small pieces, and then the edge can be leveled with a knife (the plaster is well ground).

How to fix

Plasterboard sheets are attached to special self-tapping screws with a screw at the end. Because of their small size, they are called "fleas". They must be twisted so that the heads are recessed, but at the same time it is impossible to break through the cardboard. The installation step is 15-20 cm in straight sections without load and 10-15 cm in sections with bends. In short, these are all the wisdom of installing drywall.

To bend a sheet of gypsum covering the arch of the "firebox", it is cut on one side in strips 5-7 cm wide. Gypsum is broken along the cutting lines, but the second sheet of cardboard is not cut. It turns out that the strips of gypsum hang on this cardboard, because of this, the strip bends well. It is applied to the profiles that form the bend, and fastened with self-tapping screws. When installing, be careful, put the fasteners in the middle of the strip - the pieces can break off from the edge.

Finishing

After the portal for the artificial fireplace is sheathed with plasterboard, you can start finishing. You can putty and paint it, you can tiled it with brick or stone tiles, another option is an artificial facing stone.

It is more convenient to glue the cladding on drywall to liquid nails or special glue for the selected material. It is only important that it can be used with drywall.

To make the portal for the artificial fireplace seem more voluminous, to make the game of "flame" more interesting, the part that goes out to the wall is covered with a mirror (if an electric fireplace is not installed). The mirror can be ordinary, on glass, or it can be flexible - acrylic. It is preferable as it does not break.

Do-it-yourself decorative fireplace

The seams between the tiles are sealed with grout. It is often chosen in a dark gray color, similar to a solution. Then the portal looks like a real one from a distance.

As you can see, making a decorative fireplace with your own hands is not too difficult. Especially for those who have at least a little experience with drywall. For a more complex version, with stucco molding made "on site", see the video.

Imitation of a fireplace with candles - the main thing is to choose the right design

Decorative fireplace fits into

Adding additional charm and coziness to the room is easy if you build a decorative fireplace, applying the skills of using ordinary tools and using your own imagination. For such an impromptu home hearth, a large amount of materials is not required; often leftovers after repairs are used.

Varieties

It is easy to find ready-made portals for indoor fireplaces in the store, but if you wish, you can build a decorative fireplace with your own hands using different materials. The most common are portals made of brick, drywall, wood and chipboard or MDF boards.

If we consider the classification of decorative fireplaces by functionality, then the following varieties are distinguished:

  • imitation of a classic fireplace in the form of a portal with trim and an empty niche;
  • reproduction of an accurate image of fire using electrical devices;
  • in some models of decorative fireplaces, there is an option to create an auditory imitation of logs crackling when burning;
  • the presence of an additional heating function.

Depending on the method of placement, several types are classified:

  • wall-mounted;
  • corner;
  • hinged;
  • built-in;
  • island.

Construction stages

The algorithm for constructing artificial fireplaces for a house from any materials is identical, and consists of several stages.

Selecting the shape of the portal, calculating the dimensions of each part, drawing up a drawing. Transferring the main lines in an exact scale to the wall, near which a decorative fireplace will be installed with constant control of the exact contours and verticals.

The choice of material for the base. A reliable and stable frame is obtained from a metal profile, but it is easier to make it from a wooden bar.

Fastening to the wall of an aluminum profile (timber) with dowels. The assembly of the frame is carried out with the implementation of stiffeners, if the subsequent finishing will be carried out with heavy materials.

Sheathing of the upper surface and side planes

Preparation of drywall for finishing consists in applying a thin layer of putty, followed by priming after drying. You will need to apply another finishing putty and prime.

Appliances with simulated flame are installed after the decorative fireplace is finally decorated with finishing materials. Fire safety measures must be followed if a model with heating elements is selected for the house. In this case, the walls of the niche are protected by basalt thermal insulation, which has high refractory qualities.

Home made from traditional materials

Drywall

Refers to the material widely used by home craftsmen. It can be easily cut with a sharp knife or electric jigsaw, it allows you to make curved parts, for which it is enough just to wet it.

When designing decorative fireplaces using drywall, special attention should be paid to the selection of finishes and calculation of sizes, if the decision is made to install a device with combined functions. In this case, the fireplace will not only please with a magnificent imitation of flame, but also heat the room.

For such models, the gap between the back plane of the device and the wall is maintained at least 50 mm. Based on this, the dimensions of the future fireplace portal are calculated. For cladding, you can take ceramic tiles, textured porcelain stoneware. Plaster stucco looks great.

Wood

DIY decorative false fireplace in 1 day

The solid wood for the portal is not an obligatory material if you want to get the natural texture of the hearth. You can even make a decorative fireplace from building remnants of plywood, MDF, chipboard. It can be a board - parquet, not edged or edged.

It is more convenient to start working if an electric fireplace with the desired options has already been purchased. In this case, its size and shape are known, so it is easier to calculate a niche when constructing a portal. The structure with the help of self-tapping screws can be assembled separately, and only then attached to the wall. A bright decorative effect with the preservation of the wood texture is given by the coating with a stain followed by varnishing. You can use tinted varnish.

Brick

To make a decorative fireplace with your own hands, using bricks - silicate, hollow, facing, decorative, it must be borne in mind that its weight will be quite impressive. For this reason, it is impractical to correctly assess the strength of the floors. Such a retro hearth of the house looks great without requiring additional finishing.

Use of improvised means

You can make original decorative fireplaces for your home from a variety of improvised means:

  • place a candle inside an empty aquarium or a beautiful glass vase. A miniature biofuel burner can be used;
  • make a semi-volume decorative fireplace by gluing its configuration of polyurethane parts directly to the wall and painting it in the desired color;
  • create a fireplace portal from a large cardboard box, decorating its surfaces to any texture using self-adhesive film;
  • to bring into the interior a feeling of comfort from the presence of a bewitching flame with the help of photo wallpaper, which depicts a variety of types of fireplaces.

If you have the skills to work with metal, you can create a unique image of a fireplace portal from this material at home.

Finishing methods

You can decorate a decorative fireplace in different ways. If desired, the portal is painted or art painting is performed. The fireplace surfaces with decorative plaster add a touch of aristocracy to the interior.

The use of finishing materials stylized as stone - balanced status granite, mysterious refined marble or mesmerizing beauty malachite, gives the fireplace facade a special sophistication. The original composition is laid out if mosaic elements are used for facing.

When decorating decorative fireplaces for an apartment, designed with elements of a classic style, you should pay attention to a special tile made with a textured surface reminiscent of tiles. The fireplace portal created with their help allows you to reproduce the unique atmosphere of old estates.

Video: Decorative panels and an aged fireplace

Now you have already assembled a decorative fireplace from a metal profile and drywall. Now it is the turn of the final finishing of the fireplace and its insert, in order to give it an aesthetic appearance.

Due to the fact that the fireplace is sheathed with drywall sheets, it can be finished in a wide variety of ways. The main thing is that the design of the fireplace is combined with the rest of the interior of the room and complements it beautifully. This article will tell you how to choose the right design and type of finish, as well as what options generally exist.

Do-it-yourself fireplace decor should be done carefully and deliberately, since an ugly design can ruin even a perfectly assembled drywall structure.
The main rule in choosing finishes is to ideally introduce a new design element into an existing interior.

Note! Each type of decoration for a decorative fireplace has certain advantages and disadvantages. Therefore, the choice should be deliberate and well analyzed.

The finishing of a false fireplace is selected depending on what kind of structure the structure has, since each type has its own design features, which must be taken into account.
In order to flawlessly select the type of cladding, it is necessary to rely on the following parameters:

  • type of construction;
  • location;
  • general interior of the room;
  • financial opportunities;
  • operational features of the finish.

Based on these parameters, you will choose the type of cladding that best suits your situation.
A decorative fireplace, which was assembled with your own hands from drywall, requires an original and beautiful frame that will be combined with the general style of the room. To date, the finishing of a false fireplace can be carried out with the following materials:

  • marble;
  • fake diamond;
  • ceramic tile;
  • tiles;
  • textured plaster;
  • gypsum;
  • mosaic;
  • wooden elements.

Sample finish

As you can see, the facing of the fireplace and its firebox can be done with different materials. Therefore, even a decorative plasterboard fireplace can be made as natural. And with a properly selected imitation of fire, it will generally become practically indistinguishable.

Popular options

The best option, which is ideal for any existing room interior, is wood. Wood cladding will add sophistication to the room and make it more comfortable. This design will be very, very colorful.
The wood can be used both as a complete decoration and as separate decorative elements for the firebox.

Wood trim

At the same time, even the hearth can be trimmed with wood, since in such fireplaces an open source of fire is not used, but only its imitation. The only exceptions are lighted candles placed in the hearth.
But remember that when working with wood with your own hands, the main thing is to preserve the technology.

Note! To completely prevent the risk of fire, all wood used for cladding, as well as wooden elements, should be treated with fire protection.

As a wooden component, a fireplace design can contain the following elements:

  • arches;
  • shelves;
  • curly elements around the perimeter of the firebox;
  • pilasters;
  • columns and more.

In addition to wood, fireplace and MDF cladding is possible. Many experts believe that this finish for drywall will be the best.

MDF finish

The advantages of this material include greater resistance to various influences in comparison with the same tree. In addition, such a cladding will be more durable.
For the firebox, in this case, you should use a special protective screen that will protect it from damage. For other types of false fireplaces, such a requirement is optional.
To install this kind of decor on a fireplace, the following manipulations should be carried out:

  • we prepare slats 4 × 2.5 cm;
  • with their help we make a frame for cladding;
  • we put the slats on the screws. For finishing stone elements of the fireplace, use polypropylene screw plugs. You will also need a victorious drill here;
  • drilling holes for screws should be very careful;
  • we fix the slats and attach decorative elements to them.

If the false fireplace has small dimensions, then PVA wood glue can be used as a fastener.
If installed correctly, such a cladding will look very beautiful and will last a long time.

Tiles and marble

Less popular, but still in demand, is the decoration of a decorative plasterboard fireplace with ceramic tiles and marble. But here it is worth noting that this type of cladding is only suitable for authentic fireplaces that almost completely resemble real ones.

Marble finishing

Decorative structures with small dimensions may simply not withstand the weight of the finish.
Large authentic fireplaces in marble or tiles will have a chic look, but at the same time create a kind of "coolness". Therefore, a reliable imitation of an open flame can compensate for this disadvantage.
For the firebox, decorating with tiles will be one of the best options, since you can even put lighted candles in it without fear.
The following tiles can be used for cladding decorative fireplaces made of plasterboard:

  • glazed or majolica;
  • unglazed or terracotta;
  • porcelain stoneware.

To lay tiles beautifully, you must adhere to the following technology:

Surface reinforcement

  • we degrease and dedust the surface of the future place of work;
  • we reinforce the surface with a special mesh. In some situations, you can do without it;
  • the size of one cell should be 1.5 × 1.5 cm;
  • we adjust the tiles to size. To do this, you can use a grinder or tile cutter;
  • put should start from the bottom row;

Note! The first row must be aligned horizontally. To do this, you can use special plastic crosses that are sold in any tile store.

  • we use glue as a fixing solution. Use only heat-resistant glue or mastics with similar properties. Otherwise, the tile may begin to crumble in the future. Apply the glue with a notched trowel.

First row masonry

After removing the first level, we check it for evenness. If necessary, we will correct it, while there is such an opportunity.
According to this principle, you can lay mosaics. When installing a mosaic, it is important to first draw a sketch of the upcoming work. This will help to cope with the task efficiently, quickly and to place all the details of the mosaic in the right places.

Mosaic sketch

Also, experts recommend laying out the mosaic on the floor before starting laying out the mosaic. And only then very carefully transfer it to the prepared surface.
Since our fireplace is made of plasterboard, it is important to remember that all such external finishing manipulations are carried out only after the surface of the structure is completely putty.
Remember that both mosaics and tiles must have increased heat resistance, so that during the operation of the fireplace, the finishing elements of the external design do not fall off.

Tiles

In appearance, the tiles resemble ceramic tiles. They are used as a design element only for massive fireplaces, which outwardly completely repeat the real designs. This is due to the fact that the tiles have a fairly decent weight and not every structure of metal profiles will be able to withstand them.

Tiles

Each such tile has a tiller or a hollow rectangular protrusion on its back surface. With the help of this protrusion, the product is attached to the surface. The tiles are fastened using rods that are inserted into special holes on the tiller. A steel wire is attached to the rod, which is inserted into the structure when assembling the fireplace.
It should be noted that due to the peculiarities of their design, tiles are extremely rarely used to decorate false fireplaces. But they can be very often found on real fireplaces.

The final touch

The final touch in the design of a false fireplace made of plasterboard sheets will be the assembly of an imitation structure to create the illusion of an open flame. To do this, you can use a variety of ways.

Simulated fire

As you can see, there are quite a few options for decorating a drywall fireplace. With all this diversity, it must be remembered that the design of the structure should be combined with the rest of the interior of the room. By choosing the right decor, as well as simulating fire well, you can create the illusion of a real fireplace in your apartment. By following the rules for installing decorative design, the fireplace will delight you with its appearance for many years.

If a few years ago an artificial fireplace was a symbol of luxury and an element of an elite interior, today this kind of construction is available to almost everyone. Moreover, you can assemble an artificial fireplace with your own hands as soon as possible. First you need to choose the optimal material specifically for your interior, and then equip a decorative fireplace in accordance with simple and understandable instructions.

An artificial fireplace can be built from a wide variety of materials. First of all, think about exactly how the finished faux fireplace should look like. Choose the appropriate style, size, shape and decor.

Then take a close look at your pantry. It is possible that you have enough of some material left, suitable for arranging an artificial fireplace. For the rest, focus on your own preferences, remembering to take into account the important characteristics of each available material.

If a traditional wood-burning fireplace needs to be lined with exceptionally high-quality bricks with high refractory properties, then absolutely any brick can be used for laying an artificial fireplace - even facing, at least some colored decorative, at least ordinary silicate.

You can immediately embroider the masonry joints and your fireplace will take on an attractive appearance. In the end, all that remains is to install the mantel. Brick faux fireplaces are best for country-style spaces.

Consider the fact that the finished structure made of the material in question will have a fairly large weight, therefore, before starting work, objectively assess the quality and reliability of the existing floors.

Lovers of environmentally friendly materials should pay attention to wood structures. You can use parquet, unedged and edged boards. To give an aesthetic appearance, the wood is covered with wood stain or varnish. The fireplace itself is best placed on a site made in the form of a pre-furnace sheet.

Wood is a light material, so the dimensions and shape of such an artificial fireplace for home can be almost any, completely to your taste. It is allowed to use glue to connect the boards in the case of assembling a small structure. If the device is rather massive, use self-tapping screws, or even better - a complex connection of self-tapping screws and glue.

If you wish, you can come to the nearest furniture store, buy ready-made panels there and lay out an artificial fireplace from them. High-quality MDF and chipboard are suitable. Plywood also works well.

The boards can be pre-painted in the desired color or pasted over with decorative foil. A fireplace portal of the desired size and configuration is easily assembled from ready-made shields.

Chipboard can even be revetted with tiles or decorative stone. Here, focus on your preferences and available budget.

Diy wood fireplace

Boards, furniture boards and slabs are all fastened in approximately the same way.

First step. Assemble the faux fireplace frame. It is best to use a galvanized profile for this.

Pre-sketch at least an elementary drawing of the future fireplace indicating the main dimensions. Cut the profile into pieces of the desired size using a hacksaw or special scissors.

Attach the vertical frame posts to the floor and walls using a screwdriver and self-tapping screws. Attach horizontal crossbars to the uprights for greater stability.

In the process of planning the step between the frame posts, pay attention to the dimensions of the selected material for sheathing, i.e. the width of boards, wood-based panels, boards, etc.

Second phase. Try on the sheathing boards to the frame. Trim the bottom, top, or outer planks as needed to fill the entire space nicely.

Stage three. Attach the sheathing to the frame with self-tapping screws. An electric screwdriver will help you with this. Screw the self-tapping screws so that their caps go a little into the wood, and in the future they were not noticeable after finishing.

Stage four. Cover the mounting locations with decorative plugs. Paint the paneling, varnish it or use a different finishing material of your choice.

Fifth stage. Install the mantel. You can place various decorations on it.

Do you have the skills to work with metal products? Then it will not be difficult for you to make a wonderful metal artificial fireplace. This design will look truly stylish and original.

The shape and other design features depend solely on your personal preference. Metal fireplaces fit best with high-tech interiors and other modern styles.

Metal artificial fireplaces are more difficult to assemble than their counterparts made from other materials. Therefore, you need to take the work as responsibly as possible and do everything in full accordance with the recommendations received.

The first step is preparing a plan. Determine the preferred shape of the fireplace, the optimal dimensions of the structure, think over the decorative finish. Display all your ideas on paper with important dimensions.

The second stage is marking work. Mark the wall for the location of the mounts. Whenever possible, try to make the markings as accurate as possible, observing all the levels.

The third stage is the assembly of structural elements. The support of such an artificial fireplace will be an aluminum profile frame. Cut the profile into pieces of the desired size and attach them to the wall in accordance with the previously marked markings.

Cast on the frame and attach it to the wall with anchors.

Install the protruding structural elements. Sheathe the frame with sheets of the selected material. Usually, aluminum or stainless steel is used for cladding. For a more effective and beautiful design, you can use metal sheets of different colors.

For example, you can make the main edges from a light material, and the ends from a dark one, or vice versa. With proper execution, this technique allows you to abandon the finishing of the fireplace. Alternatively, you can sheathe the frame with the most common sheet metal, and then simply paint it in the desired color.

The fourth stage is the installation of equipment. Place an artificial fire in the assembled base.

If the fireplace you have chosen is not just a decoration, but also gives warmth, fix a layer of heat-insulating material on the inner metal walls of the base before installing it. Mineral wool heaters are perfect.

The most popular and easiest to implement option. The only difficulty for a beginner may arise at the stage of designing a metal frame, you just need to practice a little.

Drywall is extremely easy to handle and install. You can effortlessly cut the sheet into blanks of the required shape, bend drywall and perform other necessary actions.

Do-it-yourself drywall fireplace

First step. Make a frame using wood beams or metal profiles. Assemble a box with dimensions 130x120x30 cm from plasterboard sheets. The box must be without bottom and back walls. Use a sharp knife or hacksaw to cut drywall. Glue the parts of the box with assembly glue.

Second phase. Prepare a plasterboard base 150x40x20 cm in size. Install the finished "foundation" near the wall. For added security, glue the box to the floor with mounting glue.

Stage three. Glue the previously assembled fireplace structure to the "foundation". Place a mantel of a suitable size on top.

Stage four. Make a decorative chimney 80x15 cm from drywall and wooden slats (frame). Determine the height yourself - from the mantel to the ceiling surface. Glue the chimney to the wall and directly to the fireplace. Do this part of the design at your discretion, if you wish, you can do without it.

Fifth stage. Gently glue the skirting board to the “foundation” and the main body of the structure. In the case of the main part of the structure, the plinth should be glued under the mantelpiece. Here it is better to place it in steps, using products of different widths to obtain a beautiful smooth transition.

Sixth stage. Install your artificial firelight inside the plasterboard structure.

Seventh stage. Finish your faux fireplace. Do what you want here. For finishing, you can use water-dispersible paint, wallpaper, foam tiles and other suitable materials.

Fireplace decoration. Possible variant

Pay attention to the correct decoration of the surrounding space. The wall near the fireplace should be in harmony with it in style.

Artificial fireplaces lined with stone look very elegant, stylish and expensive. Decorative tiles will add a unique charm to the environment and will become a worthy decoration for almost any interior.

DIY decorative stone fireplace

Artificial fireplaces with stone cladding look truly chic. At the same time, the stone can be attached to almost any surface - even to a brick, even to drywall, even to any kind of other materials. The main thing is that the base is able to withstand the weight of the finish.

First step. Thoroughly clean the base from any dirt. If the stone will be attached to brickwork, first deepen the seams between the building elements using any sharp object.

Second step. Fasten the masonry mesh over the entire surface to be tiled.

Third step. "Try on" the cladding elements dry. It is most convenient to do this on the floor or some other plane. Simply transfer the projection of the fireplace to the surface and lay out the cladding elements on it. This way you can adjust the stones in shape, color and other indicators.

Fourth step. Move on to fixing the cladding elements. To obtain the highest quality and most durable coating, start cladding with the installation of the thickest tiles. You will be guided by them and will be able to understand which layer of glue to apply to thinner stones.

Attach the first tile in the lower corner. Lay out the corner completely and move on to the device for the upper horizontal row of cladding. The stones will be attached from the top of the fireplace to the base of the fireplace. For fixing the tiles, it is recommended to use an adhesive specially developed for such materials.

Usually the glue dries for 2-3 days. Check the exact time in the instructions for your product. Wait until the glue is completely dry and rub the seams. Make sure the grout you choose does not leave marks on your veneer beforehand. This can be done on some third-party piece of stone.

Decide on the material most suitable for your case and proceed with the arrangement of an artificial fireplace.

If none of the materials considered suits you, you can show your imagination and create a truly original design. For example, some craftsmen make beautiful hearths from large aquariums. It is enough to cover the bottom of the container with pebbles and install a biofireplace in it.

Happy work!
