Inexpensive furniture made of plastic, veneer and MDF

In this article:

Solid wood furniture is confidently gaining popularity among consumers. It is beautiful, environmentally friendly, and has high performance characteristics. It is prestigious to have solid wood furniture in the house, so it will be in demand, which means it will be profitable. But how do you create a worthy offer?

Features of the organization and development of the production of solid wood furniture

When planning to open a business for the production of solid wood furniture, you should pay attention to several general nuances:

  1. Solid wood furniture- goods of the highest price category. But the expensive cost of production will not pay off only with the concept of "naturalness" - there must be originality, an idea, an interesting design and high quality at all stages of the technological process from purchasing raw materials to packaging and proper storage of the finished product;
  2. The main buyer of such furniture- people with incomes above the average level. Assess the consumer segment in your region - will it meet your expectations?
  3. Solid wood furniture characterized by strength and durability, therefore, it will not be replaced soon due to operational wear. But because of the change in interior design - yes. Therefore, an enterprise with a serial production cycle must be ready for the constant development of the assortment, tracking new ideas and fashion trends in order to anticipate the wishes of the buyer;
  4. The best option for a small enterprise for the production of solid wood furniture- work under specific orders.
  5. So that production does not stand idle, you need to have an extensive dealer network... At the initial stage, it is not necessary to open your own stores. It will be quite enough to issue an advertising catalog with a range of products and agreements with construction firms, shops, etc. It would not hurt to acquire your own Internet resource with product advertisements, production photos and contacts - today many consumers are looking for furniture through the World Wide Web.
  6. Demand for solid wood furniture characterized by seasonality: from May to August, sales are falling (July-August and January are considered "low season", during which production may be idle); from September to April - increase. The peak of activity is in November-December.

Organizational issues for starting a business

Legal form, documents and standards

The choice of the form of doing business depends on the planned production volumes. At the initial stage, you can limit yourself to private entrepreneurship, especially if you make custom-made furniture in small quantities. But if mass production is planned, you cannot do without a law firm. For ease of settlements with suppliers and customers (legal entities, government agencies), the easiest way is to choose an LLC on the general taxation system.

A license is not required for the production of solid wood furniture, but in order for the products to receive a quality certificate, the following norms and standards must be observed:

  • GOST 16371-93 “Furniture. General technical conditions ";
  • GOST 19917-93 “Furniture for sitting and lying. General technical conditions ";
  • GOST 19194-73 “Furniture. Method for determining the strength of fastening of furniture legs ";
  • GOST 13715-78 “Joinery Plates. Technical conditions ";
  • GOST R 54208-2010 “Protective and decorative coatings on furniture made of wood and wood materials. Classification and designations ".

Choice OKVED depends on what exactly is planned to be produced, and how the products will be sold (wholesale, retail).

The following activity codes may come in handy:

  • 36.12 Manufacture of furniture for offices and trade enterprises;
  • 36.13 Manufacture of kitchen furniture;
  • 36.14 Manufacture of other furniture
  • 51.15.1 Agents involved in the wholesale of household furniture;
  • 51.47.11 Wholesale of household furniture;
  • 52.44.1 Retail trade of furniture;
  • 52.44.5 Retail sale of wood products, cork and wicker products;
  • 52.61.2 Retail trade carried out directly via television, radio, telephone and the Internet;

Raw materials for the production of solid wood furniture: wood is different from wood

For the manufacture of solid wood furniture, you can use:

  • finished furniture boards (GOST 13715-78),
  • solid edged board (edged board GOST 8486-86).

The most popular types of wood: pine, birch, beech, hornbeam, alder, larch.

The fittings can be both domestic and imported (at the request of the customer). Handles and fasteners made of stainless steel, bronze, chrome-plated steel are the most "trusted" of buyers.

Pay special attention to paints and varnishes - they are selected depending on the type and properties of wood, and must comply with GOST 31093-2003 “Furniture paint and varnish materials. General technical conditions ".

Requirements for a production facility for the manufacture of solid wood furniture

The dimensions of the room depend on the production capacity, but in any case, you should count on the following divisions:

  • dryer - the place where the boards or board will “ripen” to be put into production;
  • workshop where woodworking machines will be located;
  • assembly room;
  • room for paintwork;
  • finished goods warehouse.

Basic requirement for mini wood furniture production plant- the possibility of heating and control of the level of humidity in all rooms. Other requirements are standard: the presence of a 3-phase network, access roads and a platform for unloading raw materials and materials, ventilation, water.

Solid wood furniture production technology

There are two options for the production cycle:

  • short- ready-made panels become raw materials for the production of furniture, which are polished, sawn for certain parts and processed with varnish;
  • full- the raw materials are boards, which are first converted into shields, and then parts for furniture are made.

The first way is optimal for small productions with small volumes. The second is beneficial for large and medium-sized enterprises.

The complete technological process for the production of solid wood furniture looks like this:

1. It all starts with the idea of furniture production, of a certain type and design, which is embodied in a working sketch. For example, for this wood furniture manufacturing process, the idea was a bed with spacious floor niches and rounded corners.

2. Based on the design sketch, designers and technologists develop three-dimensional models and working drawings of the future product.

3. Pine board was selected for production. Softwood of conifers is easy to process, resistant to mold and mildew, and has a positive effect on health. Pine comes into production in the form of boards, with indicators of natural moisture content of 40-60%.

4. The board must be well dried, so it is sent to the drying chamber - a room where hot air is blown into the racks with raw materials with the help of fans. The board is dried for 10-12 days until its moisture content drops to 80% of the original values.

5. The prepared board is sent to the dissolution of the furniture board. The multi rip saw removes the bark and cuts the board according to the specified dimensions into blanks.

6. From the resulting lamellas, only the central parts, without bark, will go into production (the remains are used to heat the drying chamber in order to reduce heating and electricity costs).

7. With a cross-cut machine, knots, resin pockets, areas with twisted fibers and other defects are cut out.

There is a strong tension inside the wood monolith, and it is because of it that solid wood products often warp and crack. Sawing wood compensates for this stress, so solid wood furniture is stronger and more durable than solid wood.

8. To obtain lamellas for furniture, the bars must be spliced along their length. To do this, the workpieces are laid out on the table, aligned along the edge and pressed with a press from above and on the sides.

9. The revolving saw cuts a tongue and groove in the fixed workpieces. Then the lamellas are turned over and the joint is cut out for joining from the back side. The “tongue-and-groove” is similar to a ridge, which creates additional area for gluing the workpieces into a single shield.

10. The lamellas are placed on a docking machine, which is equipped with special compression rollers guiding the workpiece so that the pins enter the grooves.

11. When the programmed length is reached, the lamellas are cut and sent to the press. The groove spike closes to form a strong connection.

12. Lamellas are sanded on both sides, glued together on fan press taking into account the guide fibers and annual rings to prevent warping and cracking of the future product. In the press, the shield is held for 40-50 minutes - the time required for the glue to harden.

13. On a band-dividing machine, the shield is formed into the required dimensions, after which the lamella is planed on a thicknessing machine on each side.

14. On a sizing-grinding machine, the shield acquires a predetermined thickness by sawing into sheets of a certain size.

15. Since soft wood is used in the production, in order to give the product strength, it is necessary to protect the array by “wrapping” all the details with veneer trim. Hardwood veneer is prepared separately: trimmed, sorted by hand according to the shade and structure of the wood.

16. The sorted strips are sewn in a zigzag manner with a hot-melt thread, which gives the joint extra strength.

17. The way of gluing veneer to a furniture board depends on what shape the part needs to be veneered:

  • flat slabs revetted on a press - the veneer is pressed against the shield, on which the adhesive base is applied, for 3 minutes under a pressure of 2 atm;
  • complex radius details, which are manufactured separately - on a membrane vacuum press.

18. The lined parts are sent to the drilling and filler machine, the program of which includes the sweep of the fastening holes for the future joining of furniture parts.

19. Manufacturing of individual pieces of furniture is carried out on automated machines according to the specified parameters. The drilling group makes all the necessary cuts and cuts. Here, a veneer edge is applied to the cuts.

20. Finished parts go to the control assembly of the product, where it is checked:

  • accuracy of joining parts,
  • the presence of all holes,
  • equipment,
  • size matching.

After checking, the product is disassembled and sent for grinding and painting.

21. All parts are sanded 3 times (abrasives of different grain sizes are used). Not only the smoothness of the product depends on the quality of the grinding, but the uniform coating with varnish and paint.

22. Painting is carried out in a room with a water curtain, which removes the suspension of stain and varnish.

The process takes place in several stages:

  • staining with stain,
  • drying,
  • application of 3 layers of polyurethane varnish (with each layer drying for at least 2 hours),
  • painting (depending on the design of the model).

23. After complete drying of the varnish (at least 16 hours), the product is packed and sent to the finished product warehouse.

Equipment for the production of solid wood furniture

As practice shows, manufacturers of solid wood furniture rarely use full technological cycle, preferring to buy ready-made furniture boards made of various types of wood, veneered or with another coating for a certain batch of orders.

The second option is separate these two industries: to make a shield for our own needs, and for sale in a workshop located near the raw material base (logging). And the furniture production should be concentrated separately, closer to the sales markets.

But to calculate a business plan, consider the full cycle option. For production, you need the following equipment:

  • Circular sawing machine for cutting wide boards - 68,000 rubles,
  • Jointing machine - 70,000 rubles.,
  • Thicknesser - 136,000 rubles.
  • Drilling and grooving machine - 51,000 rubles,
  • Milling machine - 75,000 rubles.,
  • Turning and milling copying machine - 153,000 rubles,
  • Grinding machine - 78200 rubles,
  • Spray gun, painting stand - 136,000 rubles,
  • Auxiliary tools - 70,000 rubles.

Total: 837 200 rubles.

Business plan for the production of solid wood furniture

1. Planning

It is planned to open a mini-factory for the production of solid wood furniture.

2. Raw materials

Raw materials will be purchased from timber industry enterprises and intermediaries. At the initial stage, it is not planned to purchase equipment for sawing workpieces in the form of round timber, therefore, raw materials mean sawn and dried boards.

Materials required for production:

  • oak that has undergone initial processing (sawing, drying) - 8500 rubles / 1m 3;
  • fittings- at the request of the customer, from 50 to 340 rubles;

3. Implementation

The sale of finished products will be carried out through dealers and our own warehouse store. The store will be allocated 50 m 2 of production space and equipped for an exhibition salon.

4. Production workshop

The production workshop is planned to be leased. Area - 200 m2, rent - 50,000 rubles / month.

5. Finished products

Finished products (cabinets) are planned to be sold at 10,800 rubles / m. (the price will vary depending on the complexity of the manufacture of various furniture and the type of fittings).

6. Staff and salary

Employees:

  • director,
  • accountant,
  • constructor-designer,
  • technologist,
  • machine carpenters (6 persons),
  • cutter,
  • auxiliary workers (2 people).

Wages fund - 93,840 rubles / month.

7. Output volumes

Planned volume of production: 360 p.m. / year.

8. Attracting investments

To start production, it is planned to attract investments (bank credit) in the amount of 1,707,000 rubles.

Of which 837 200 rubles. will be spent on the purchase of the necessary equipment, the rest - on the purchase of raw materials, materials, rent and other aspects of the company's economic activities.

9. Costs and costs

Calculation of costs and cost of solid wood furniture (for example, an oak wardrobe)

Cost of 1 lm furniture = (Fixed costs / Annual production) + Variable costs.

Fixed costs

Fixed costs (calculated per year) include:

  • rental of premises - 600,000 rubles,
  • utilities - 81 600 rubles.,
  • depreciation - 166 600 rubles,
  • salary - 1 126 080 rubles,
  • payroll taxes (37.5%) - 422,280 rubles,
  • advertising costs - 81,600 rubles.

Total: 2,478,160 rubles.

Unforeseen expenses (reserve fund -2% of the amount of fixed costs) - 49,563.20 rubles.

Total fixed costs - 2,527,723.2 rubles.

Variable costs

Variable costs (calculated per unit of production):

  • raw materials - 0.143 m 3 * 8500 rubles = 1215.50 rubles,
  • paints and varnishes - (7.3 m 3 * 150 g) = 1.095 l * 170 rubles / liter = 186.15 rubles,
  • accessories - (2 handles, 4 brackets, screws, screws) = 170 rubles.

Total: RUB 1,571.65

Calculation of the cost of production for the first year of operation: 2,527,723.2 / 360 + 1,571.65 = RUB 8,593.10

10. Break-even point

Calculation of the break-even point = Fixed costs / (Profit for 1 product - Variable costs for 1 product) = 2 527 723.2 / (10 800 - 1 571.65) = 273.91 m.p.

The breakeven of the enterprise will be ensured upon the implementation of 273.91 m. P. In the first year of production.

11. Financial results - forecast

Forecasted financial results for the first year of operation:

  • Revenue = (10,800 rubles * 360 m. P.) = 3,888,000 rubles,
  • Cost = (8593.1 * 360 m. P.) = 3 093 516 rubles,
  • Profit from sales = (3,888,000 - 3,093,516) = 794,484 rubles,
  • Loan payments (% per year) = 256,065.90 rubles,
  • Income tax = (794 484 - 256 065.90) = 107 683.62 rubles,
  • Net profit = (794 484 - 256 065.90 - 107 683.62) = 430 734.48 rubles

12. Calculation of profitability and payback

Product profitability= (Profit from sales / Cost) * 100% = (794 484 rubles / 3 093 516 rubles) * 100% = 26%.

Rate of return= (Net profit / Investments) * 100% = (430,734.48 rubles / 1,707,000) * 100% = 25%

The payback period of the project is 3 years, 9 months.
