Reading time: 4 minutes

A A

A hatch from the inside of the house closes the descent to the basement, underground or cellar. The lid is hidden under the floor in the room, trimmed with the same materials as throughout the house.

The device works quite simply and reliably if all structural elements are installed correctly.

Arrangement of hinges is one of the important stages of installation. The strength of the mechanism and the smoothness of opening the lid depend on their stable operation.

Definition of a door hinge and its purpose

A hinge is a mechanism that provides the opening of any hatch, door, frame or other plane relative to a fixed part. In addition to opening, the hinge holds the entire weight of the canvas and attaches it to the opening of a door or window.

To be effective, the mechanism must provide:

  • A reliable and strong connection with the box is necessary due to the large weight of the cover or door. Hinges are usually made of steel or metal alloys, which are highly durable;
  • The quality of the swivel mechanism, which is achieved due to the minimum backlash between the moving structural elements. This will ensure that there is no jamming;
  • Service accessibility, for which holes are made in the hinges for lubrication with oils;
  • Ease of installation due to countersunk screw heads. This reduces the load on the mechanism when closing;
  • The aesthetic appeal of electroplated hinges in bronze, copper or nickel. In addition, it provides additional protection against corrosion.

Types of loops

Several variants of the hinge mechanism are possible:

Overhead hinges.

The peculiarities of this type of hinge consists in fastening not to the end, but to the visible plane of the rotated blade. As a rule, these canopies are made of an unusual shape with a pattern or imitation of forged elements.

Cut-in design

A sash-thick sample is arranged under the hinges. This type is used most often because it is reliable and easy to install. The simple design of such hinges is easily disassembled and makes it possible to dismantle the swivel blade.

Hidden door hinges

A hidden loop of this type is completely invisible when the device is closed. It is quite difficult to do constructively, which increases the cost, but looks better from the point of view of decorativeness.

Screw-in hinges

One of the hinge parts is attached to the casing or fixed part, and the other to the end of the rotated part. The door must not be flush with the frame. Such mechanisms can be regulated, although there are also unregulated designs.

Bar hinge design.

The design is characterized by opening in both directions. This becomes possible due to the articulated arrangement of the mechanism. It is supplemented with springs that return the spring wings to their original state.

Hinges for

Non-standard hinge option. How to make the basement hatch invisible? Make a secret hatch. This is quite possible if the cover is trimmed with the flooring material, matching the decoration pattern.

In order for the stroke to be indistinguishable, all gaps must be removed. The cover should open easily, and if there is no gap, then the side surfaces will catch. There is a special loop for the pantograph.

Let's talk about how to make do-it-yourself door hinges. Why are they good? Firstly, they can withstand huge loads, they can be installed both on the door and on the garage door. Secondly, they can be given any size, that is, made both small and large. And, thirdly, there is much more confidence in the reliability of self-made loops than in purchased ones.

What tool do we need?

  • tape measure or ruler;
  • marker (chalk);
  • hacksaw with a cloth for metal (grinder);
  • hammer;
  • file;
  • welding machine.

From materials:

  • metal plate 2-3 mm thick;
  • pipe section;
  • steel rod (it must be selected based on the inner diameter of the pipe. It should not dangle. Ideally, a piece of the rod should go into the pipe with an interference fit).

The first step is to cut off a piece of pipe. In general, it is planned to make metal hinges for the door with a total length of 110 mm. Therefore, we outline 50 mm on the pipe and cut it off. The second segment should be 10 mm larger, i.e. 60 mm in size.

We grind pipe sections outside and inside with a file. This is done in order to remove burrs.

In the same way, mark the length of 110 mm on the rod, and then saw off.

We drive the rod into the pipe to get the picture as in the photo below. If you have a lathe, everything is much easier. You grind two parts of the sleeve from a single piece of the blank, it remains only to weld the plates.

Next, you need to cut off the plate. There is no point in showing the sawing process. Everything is clear here. As a result, you should get 2 plates, 2 pipe sections and a piece of rod.

Moving on to the welding part. If you are new to working with a welding inverter, then this information can be found on this.

The end of the pipe from which the rod comes out should not be scalded, otherwise the second half of the canopy will cling to the welding seam.

We grab the plates to the pipe, level, scald.

We get ready-made door hinges. Ignore the hole, there was just a finished plate.

That's all. This is how you can make your own door hinges. If they are painted or galvanized, then they will look no worse than the purchased ones, and they will not be inferior in functionality.

Hinges are hardware that a few years ago was an unremarkable unit of one version. Now the situation has changed and this hardware may be different. Hinges are required to open and close doorways. There are several options for mounting door fittings, the methods directly depend on the types of doors. To carry out this work, some skills, a suitable tool and an understanding of a certain sequence of actions are required. Most often hidden hinges are chosen, since they are almost invisible and thanks to this everything looks more attractive. The cut-in of closed loops is available to any master.

Hinge options for interior doors

There are currently five options for door awnings. Each of the options has its own specificity and strengths. You can find and purchase these types of awnings:

  • straight or card - simple classic, with special side plates;
  • angular - similar to the first, classic canopy with a slight difference in the shape of the plates, most often they are installed on pendulum structures;
  • "Invisible" - special mechanisms that are recessed into the door leaf, are most often used on expensive doorways;
  • reversible - there are no plates, but only pins on a special reversible axis;
  • italian - equipped with a special hinge, installed on European doors.

All interior hinged structures are divided into universal and those that have a certain direction: right and left.

As for the version of the loops, they are:

  • mortise;
  • waybills;
  • screw-in.

DIY hidden door hinges

Most often, the invisible hinge option is a priority, as it allows you to make the object aesthetically attractive. The installation of this fittings is a little more difficult than the invoice, it also requires more time, but if you wish and some skill, it is possible to install the hinges quickly and correctly with your own hands.

The advantages of this option are as follows:

  • Reliability and safety - thieves will not be able to enter the room due to the fact that they will cut the hinges, as is the case with overhead options, hidden hinges are hidden from outside intrusion.
  • High strength - the product easily supports the weight of the structure itself, made of metal or wood material.
  • Practicality - the product can last for more than a dozen years with proper care.
  • Visual appeal - when the doors are closed, the hinges are not visible, this allows you to preserve the aesthetics of the appearance.
  • Great variety - you can choose awnings that can withstand heavy loads or small structures for cabinet doors.

The disadvantage of this method is the fact that installation is not easy and requires some effort. In addition, there are a number of other weaknesses of this product:

  • Hidden canopy is expensive compared to other options. But even among the category of hidden interior designs, you can find those that are higher or lower. It should be understood that the quality of the hinge directly affects the price of the product.
  • Unfortunately, there are a large number of fakes on the market, as a result, you can buy a low-quality product and lose money
  • A noticeable disadvantage is the fact that not every canopy can be disassembled if necessary.
  • Due to the large drowning depth, it is not always realistic to install this type of awning.

Installation of concealed hinges on the door

If you do not delve into the peculiarities of installing the door structure, then mounting the hinges of the hidden version is simple and straightforward: you need to cut out a niche and insert the mechanism, then securely fix it and start using it. But in reality, things are a little more complicated.

It is not very easy to install hidden hinges with your own hands. It is necessary to stock up on the tools necessary for the work. in addition, there is an instruction in which all stages are spelled out, following the recommendations of specialists allows you to quickly and efficiently install the mechanism. Installation requires the following tools and elements:

  • "Invisible loops";
  • fasteners for mounting;
  • simple pencil;
  • yardstick;
  • sharp knife;
  • chisel;
  • screwdriver;
  • screwdriver;
  • hammer.

First of all, you need to make a hidden outline. It is important to think over in which direction the door will open, at what level the hidden door hinges will be located. This is not at all blind adherence to the requirements for a tick, in fact, it will affect the usability, durability of the canvas and consumables. To slow down the opening of doors, experts advise to install special stoppers. In this case, the door will not hit the adjacent furniture or wall.

The number of hinges depends on the characteristics of the door: material, weight, purpose. A classic door requires the installation of two hinges, that's enough. A heavy wood door has a different weight, so a pair of hinges will not be enough, you need to install three elements. Two are installed near the floor and the top of the doorway. The third loop is located in the center of the side panel. All attachment points are marked with a pencil. You need to calculate the depth of the excavation in advance.

How to install flush-mounted awnings

As already mentioned, depending on the weight and size of the door, the number of hidden sample hinges is planned. The markup has certain stages, they can be displayed in the following order:

  • at a distance of twenty to twenty-five centimeters from the top and bottom, a mark is placed for future loops; for convenience, you need to mark it with a simple pencil;
  • to the place of the future location of the canopies, it is necessary to attach loops and circle their contours;
  • when installing the third loop, it is placed strictly in the center, at an equal distance between the first and second;
  • two contours are immediately noted, an inner one for a canopy and an outer one for an overlay.

Marking a door, namely a door frame, is considered a daunting task. Like any other process, the door layout has its own order and looks like this:

  • the accuracy of the door leaf is measured using a building level, secured with wooden wedges;
  • now it is necessary to mark the places where the loops are cut;
  • the loops are outlined with a pencil to indicate their attachment point.

To avoid mistakes, you need to carefully carry out the insertion process. The holes must be made after several checks of the correctness of the future position of the hinged hinges of the hidden version.

How to decide on the choice of invisible type hinges

The hidden mechanism is a kind of invisibility, equipped with a hinge, equipped with two elements connected by a screw. To make the right choice when buying hidden mechanisms, you should heed the recommendations of experts:

  • before purchasing a mechanism, you should study their features, if they are not universal, then you need to decide on the sides of the attachment - right or left;
  • if the hinges are inexpensive, then most likely the manufacturer has saved on the regulation mechanism;
  • when installing heavy doors, you should not put the issue of savings at the forefront;
  • when installing a door in a new building, it is necessary to purchase a copy with adjustment so that when the house shrinks, you can correct the skew of the door, which will happen in any case;
  • when installing canopies with adjusting screws, there will be no problems with skidding of large-sized objects - the swing angle of the sash can reach 180 degrees;
  • it is necessary to choose hinges based on the characteristics of the door.

Door frame how to put hidden hinges correctly

The first step to install the mechanism is milling. This is the creation of shallow recesses for drowning hinge elements. It is possible to make such connectors with your own hands using a hammer and a chisel. The main requirement for notching is accuracy and correct size. The depth of the groove depends on the thickness of the loop, and if a shallow one can be expanded, then it will be very difficult to fix an excessively deep one.

Make a recess with a drill along a contour, outlined with a simple pencil. There is no need to rush, the result depends on the measured actions. It is necessary to make recesses in the sash and in the box. This work takes no more than forty minutes. The hinges are installed in the cleaned grooves. This assumes the following actions:

  • the canopy is immersed in a specially made hole, you need to make sure that the part fits tightly and takes its place;
  • indentations are made under the screws with a special tool - a screwdriver;
  • into the grooves obtained, you need to insert the loops and tighten them, you need to make sure that the loop does not skew.

If necessary, it is important to adjust the "invisible" hinges. In this case, you can check the function of the door and make sure that the "invisible" hinges are located correctly.

DIY hidden door hinges, adjustment

The adjustment features depend on the type and version of the hinge. Although there is a wide range of concealed hinges on the market, they all have the same adjustment and design. To adjust the loops, you must follow the following steps:

  • the lining is removed from the loop, this allows you to expose the adjustment mechanism;
  • to change the vertical skew of the door, turn the bolt; this manipulation is possible using a special hex key;
  • there is a screw under the mechanism panel, with the help of which the surface of the web is adjusted.

Expensive and complex designs have a complex adjustment mechanism in three directions at once and this makes it possible to create ideal conditions for operation and quality of service.

It is necessary to avoid the situation when hinges are purchased immediately before installing the product. Such purchases can be made in a hurry and without taking into account many features, which will negatively affect the durability of using the door. It is recommended to buy hinges in parallel with the purchase of the door in order to take into account its dimensions and weight, to choose the color of the hinges. And although they are called hidden and partially recessed, they are visible when the doors are open, so it is advisable to select a shade.

Also, do not purchase a mechanism of unknown origin or chase cheapness: the hinges ensure the reliability of opening and closing the door.

You can make installation easier and faster using a special template. This will help to avoid mistakes when basting.

How to hide door hinges, requirements for the mechanism

Certain requirements are imposed on fittings. Most importantly, they must withstand mechanical stress. Since the material of the door can be different, awnings are divided into three main categories:

  • for doors up to sixty kilograms of weight;
  • for one hundred twenty-kilogram door;
  • for massive structures weighing up to two hundred and fifty kilograms.

If the door is even heavier, individual fixing structures are made. There are a number of requirements for hinges:

  • they must be durable, reliable, easy to assemble;
  • the form must be made in such a way that the fastening is as reliable as possible;
  • it must be borne in mind that during the period of service the door can open half a million times, so the material must be appropriate;
  • priority use of hinges made of aluminum, hard plastic or metal - depending on each specific situation;
  • parts must be coated with anti-corrosion agents.

If you still have questions about how to make a choice and install flush-mounted hinges with your own hands, watch the video. There you will find answers to all questions. It is really possible to install concealed hinges on your own if you follow the recommendations and prepare the necessary tool. The use of such mechanisms will allow you to enjoy the quality and aesthetics of the product.

Every home craftsman should know how to install door hinges. The high-quality functioning of interior structures directly depends on the correct installation of these small parts.

Many of us, choosing, do not even think about how important the hinges are for such designs. We are sure that the design of the door leaf and the reliability of the purchased frame are much more important, and everything else is little things. This approach to door selection is wrong. A canvas without properly selected canopies will be just a blank. There is no sense in it. Only after the hinges are installed does the door turn into a functional structure.

Hinges for interior doors

There are five types of door canopies that are most commonly used these days. Before you install the hinges on the interior door with your own hands, you need to understand their design. The specificity of the latter determines the features of the installation of awnings. Below are the common types of hinges:

  1. Card (otherwise they are called straight). The simplest canopies are equipped with special plates on the sides.
  2. Corner. In fact, they represent the same card loops, from which they differ only in the shape of the (angular) plates. Such awnings are usually placed on the interior doors of a pendulum structure.
  3. Hidden. Hinges for high-value products. Hidden awnings have a special hinge that is recessed into the door leaf.
  4. Screw-in. Such products do not have records. Instead, there are pins on the pivot shaft. Roll-in awnings are ideal for lightweight canvases.
  5. Italian. Features a specially designed hinge. Such hinges are usually mounted on European-made doors.

Canopies for interior structures are also divided into universal, left and right-sided. The first of these are allowed to be placed on either side of the canvas. According to the installation method, the hinges are divided into mortise (they form a single surface with the door, since they are mounted in recesses prepared in advance), overhead (placed directly on top of the door structure) and screw-in (they are screwed in by means of pins).

We begin to figure out how to correctly install the various types of attachments of interest to us. The very first step is to mark the door leaf. You need to step back 0.2 m from the top and bottom of the door and mark the starting lines (use a simple pencil). After that, apply the hinges to the completed basting (be sure to take into account the direction in which the door structure will open), circle their outline. And then put the appropriate marks at the attachment points.

Fitting and installing loops

At this stage, you should carefully examine the condition of the canvas. The areas where the awnings will be installed should be free of any defects, in particular knots or cracks. If, during installation, you begin to screw fasteners into problem areas, it is highly likely that the door will crack or warp. If defects are found in the marked area, re-markup so that the attachment points of the canopies are a couple of centimeters away from cracks and knots.

Now you can assemble the door block and mark the hinge mounting points on the box. In this case, it is necessary to maintain small (literally 2-3 mm) gaps between the door leaf and the door frame. This procedure is easiest to perform before the door structure is mounted in its proper place. If you have already installed the door, fix it (as tightly as possible) with wooden wedges in the opening.

When the mass of the interior door is large enough, you need to hang it not on two, but on three hinges. In this case, the latter should be cut not in the middle of the canvas, as many believe, but with some displacement towards the canopy located on top. In this case, you will be able to properly adjust the load that affects the used fittings. The third hinge must be placed if the door is larger than the standard dimensions (50 mm thick, 200 cm high, 80 cm wide).

Card-type hinges (corner and simple) are very easy to install. Moreover, this operation can be performed in two ways. The first one is suitable for awnings, two parts of which are characterized by different shapes. Hinges of this type go one into one when closing the interior door. Due to this, their installation is carried out directly on the surface of the canvas.

Card-type hinge

You will also need an electric drill to install these awnings. There are two nuances here:

  1. If the hinges are put on a heavy door, it is imperative to drill holes in it in advance, only after that you can start screwing in the screws.
  2. It is allowed to screw in the hardware immediately, without pre-making holes for them, if you are dealing with lightweight structures made of plastic or wood fiber material.

The second installation method assumes that you slightly sink the awnings into the door. In this case, when closing, they will never lock the canvas (when using the first installation method, this situation occurs quite often).

It is recommended to make grooves for the hinges with a regular chisel. Just cut off the material on the tray and on the door itself with it to the depth of the mounted canopy. And then attach the latter to the site of its installation and fix it with fasteners. Corner products should be mounted and fixed in the same way. Place one half of them on the end of the door leaf, the other on the piece.

Modern models of interior doors, as a rule, are equipped with better and more innovative fittings. Such structures must be mounted on hidden awnings. Such hinges are much easier to care for, they rarely need repair, as they have a high level of operational reliability. Yes, and purely externally installed hidden canopy makes the appearance of the door more attractive, without burdening the canvas with well-visible hinged elements.

Hidden loop example

For the correct installation of the hidden hinges, an electric router is required. Without it, the operation cannot be performed on its own. The installation itself, in the presence of such a tool, is carried out according to the following scheme:

  1. Mark the attachment points of the awnings according to the algorithm described in detail above.
  2. Use an electric milling cutter to cut the grooves for the hinges. And then you additionally process these areas with a chisel.
  3. Disassemble the hidden canopy into two parts. There is a very important point here. The hinge elements have different geometric dimensions. You need to install a part with large parameters in the door frame, and a smaller part in the canvas. And nothing else!
  4. Secure most of the mechanism with self-tapping screws.
  5. Connect the mounted elements into a single structure and, with some effort, but very carefully, tighten the fastening screw.

Screw-in awnings are most often used to install pretend interroom structures. It is very easy to distinguish such loops from ordinary card loops. The former have special threaded pins on the sides. It is they who allow the installation of awnings. Let us repeat that screwed-in products cannot be placed on doors with a large weight. Italian awnings are mounted in the same way as standard card awnings. But with one peculiarity. They are placed below and above the door leaf, and not at the ends, as is the case with card products. We hope that now you can, without the help of specialists, install hinges of any type on your interior door structures. Good luck!

Concealed element: invisible hidden products, photo

Despite the growing popularity of folding and sliding canvases, swing doors - or as they are also called: rebated doors, are still out of competition. The hinges are an integral part of them, since they are the ones that take on all the loads and ensure the rotation of the shutters.

Products for concealed installation are just one of the structural varieties of supporting fittings. We will tell you about their advantages and varieties, as well as present a video in this article that will help you install and adjust the loops with your own hands.

First of all, the elements must withstand mechanical loads, and therefore the standard provides for their separation, depending on the weight of the door leaves. On this basis, they are divided into three categories: for sashes weighing up to 60 kg; for canvases up to 120kg; massive doors weighing up to 250kg. Heavier door blocks are already special products and the hinges for them are designed separately.

So:

  • Products can be mortise or screwed in, but there are also combined options. They can also be left or right opening, or have a universal design. Regardless of the type, the hinges must have sufficient strength to hold the sash in the specified position, as well as provide, if necessary, the possibility of repair or replacement.
  • The configuration should be such that its attachment to the frame and canvas is as reliable as possible. In this case, the movable element, called the card, should rotate around the axis of the loop without jamming. Most manufacturers, following the recommendations of the state standard, use bearings for this purpose.

Elements hidden

  • The high-quality hinges that you see in the photo must ensure that the canvases are opened at least 200,000 times, and if this is an entrance door, then 500,000 times during its service life. Their resistance to dynamic and static loads in the finished block is determined taking into account the design features and material of manufacture.
  • The hinge has high aesthetics, and this is another advantage of this product. For this reason, this fittings are placed not only on, but also on interior and other interior canvases. Such elements can be made of steel, aluminum, various alloys, hard plastic - it all depends on the type of doors.
  • If the material from which they are made does not have corrosion resistance, such as steel, then their parts must have a decorative and protective coating. So, the price of products consists not only of the size of the loops, but also the complexity of their design, as well as the quality of the front layer.

Hinges are supplied as a set, with a full set of elements and fasteners necessary for installation and subsequent operation. In accordance with current regulations, installation instructions must be included in every hinge box, and for retail sale, they are accompanied by a corresponding label.

Criterias of choice

The "invisible" hinge is a body in which a hinge is hidden, which is connected to the canvas by means of a lever. It consists of two elements that are fixed together with a screw. When the door closes, the lever is hidden in a special recess, and therefore it is not visible from the outside.

So:

  • When buying loops, you should pay attention to their performance. If the products are not universal, then, of course, you need to correlate them with the option of opening the canvas: left or right. Flush-mounted door hinges may or may not have adjustment - as a rule, this possibility is not provided in budget models.
  • Of course, everyone chooses at their own discretion, but it is worth noting that this is not the case when you need to save. Particular attention should be paid to adjustable hinges for those who install doors in new buildings.

  • In the first two or three years, the building shrinks: this applies to both multi-apartment and private houses. We think many have come across such a situation when a new door suddenly - for no reason at all, stops closing normally. If the elements are adjustable, this problem can be solved for a couple of minutes.
  • The uniformity of the gaps on all sides of the web is ensured by means of adjusting screws. And yet, flush-mounted door hinges provide a swing angle of the sash up to 180 degrees, which can be fully appreciated when you have to bring large items into the house.

Note! If there are concealed hinges installed at the entrance to the apartment, it is not even necessary to equip additional anti-dismantling elements. Since the products are not visible from the outside, it is impossible to cut them off when breaking. This fact is an undoubted advantage of this hardware, and more often than not, it determines the choice of the buyer.

Variety of hidden items

  • Since the hinges are designed for this or that load, they must be selected depending on the dimensions and weight of the door leaf (see). These fittings are installed not only on the entrance, but also on the interior doors, cutting it into the end of the sash and the frame. Unlike overhead models, three hidden hinges are placed on one leaf, which provides additional security for the door.

After hanging the canvas on the frame, its spatial position is corrected. This is possible only if the installed hinges provide such a function. The sash aligns horizontally, vertically and clamped with just a hex key.

Advantages of hidden hinges

Surely you have chosen to install a concealed hinge for a reason, and this is the right choice. These are the qualities you can use after finishing the installation of the hinges:

  • Absolute security. Even with all the desire, intruders will not be able to enter your home by cutting the hinges, since products of a hidden type are hidden from outside interference.
  • High strength. Concealed hinges can support the weight of not only wood but also heavy metal entrance doors - no installation restrictions.
  • Decent reliability. Concealed standard hinges, when properly cared for, will last you many decades - perhaps even more than the door itself.
  • Aesthetics. Hidden hinges cannot be seen from the outside of the door, which makes the door leaves more attractive, especially for wooden ones.

Now that you are exactly convinced of the correctness of your choice, you can prepare to embed the flush-mounted door hinges.

Installation of hidden hinges

What tools are needed to work

In order not to be distracted by extraneous factors in the process of work, it is recommended to immediately prepare the necessary tools, equipment and materials presented below:

  • A pencil for marking.
  • Ruler or construction tape.
  • Screwdriver and set of screws.
  • Drill and cutter.
  • Building level.
  • Hammer and chisel.

After you have prepared all the specified tools and put them in the working area, you can start.

Door marking for hinge installation

Before marking, you should decide how many hidden hinges will be installed on the door. If the sash has an average weight and consists of wood, two hinges can be used, however, it will not be superfluous to put three or even four hidden hinges on a heavy steel door in order to reduce the load on each of them separately and extend the service life.

We mark the sash

The process is quite simple:

  1. Mark the distance on the door leaf at 200-250 mm from the top and bottom edges and mark these places with a pencil.
  2. Next, place the centers of the hidden loops at these points and circle them along the contour.
  3. If you plan to install a third hinge, it should be mounted strictly in the middle between the two extreme ones, and the fourth one - in the center with respect to the two adjacent ones.

It should be remembered that it is necessary to outline two contours - the inner one for the loop, the outer one for the overlay.

We mark the box

This is a more difficult task, the correct implementation of which is carried out as follows:

  1. Place the door leaf in the opening of the door frame, and using a building level and wooden pegs, fix it in a strictly parallel frame and perpendicular to the floor.
  2. Mark on the end of the door frame the places for inserting hinges opposite the similar ones located on the door leaf.
  3. Attach hidden stitches to marked points and circle. The door can be removed.

After the door frame and sash have been correctly marked, you can safely pick up the tools and start the insert.

Do not rush to immediately cut the holes for the hinges - after completing the marking with a pencil, check again all the distances that can be seen in the diagram above.

Milling

The first step is to prepare a small indentation for the hinge lining, which should be done manually with a chisel and a hammer. The notch is knocked out by gentle tapping along the outer contour. The depth will depend on the thickness of the loop you want to measure.

Next, special grooves are made to install hidden hinges. This operation is carried out using a drill and a special milling nozzle. Before forming the grooves, carefully measure the height of the hinge without an overlay - this is the depth of the hole you have to make in the box.

To do this, turn on the drill and, with gentle pressing movements, mill the end of the door strictly along the inner contour outlined in the previous step. After reaching the required depth, proceed to the next contour and beyond.

Take your time when cutting grooves - one wrong or inaccurate movement, and the door leaf can be irrevocably damaged. Better to spend a little more time, thereby saving a lot of money on buying another door.

Forming a notch for the lining along the outer contour

Deepening must be done not only in the door leaf, but also in the box, in the same way. The entire operation, if done carefully, will take you no more than one hour.

We fasten the hinges

After you have cut out the required number of grooves, clean their inner surfaces from knots so that they do not interfere with the installation. Direct insertion of hidden hinges is carried out as follows:

  1. Insert the loop into the groove obtained and seat it firmly in the socket.
  2. Use a screwdriver to drill the holes for the screws.
  3. Insert the screws into the holes formed and tighten them carefully, at the same time making sure that there is no distortion - the hinge must be installed evenly.
  4. Repeat the above steps for all mountable hidden hinges.

The installation of the hinges on the door frame is carried out after the door leaf has been placed and firmly fixed in the opening of the frame using wooden wedges. The process of attaching the hinges is no different from the above.

After completing the installation, the correct adjustment of the hidden hinges is necessary. So let's figure out how to do it.

Buttonhole adjustment basics

Adjustment features may differ depending on the design of the hinges. So, the most common guideline is suitable for adjusting the hidden hinges of most models known today and is as follows:

  1. Remove the hinge cover, if present, by exposing the adjusting screws.
  2. To change the vertical skew of the door leaf, turn the corresponding bolt on the hidden hinges using a hex wrench.
  3. In order to raise or lower the blade, you should adjust the screw, which is usually located under the detachable hinge panel.

More sophisticated adjustable hidden hinges offer more flexibility in three dimensions.

It is a great injustice to pay attention to the choice of door hinges when buying fittings as the last resort. Using hinges bought at random is not a good idea, because not only the comfort during operation and the service life of the door structure, but also the safety of the residents, will depend on the correctness of their selection, the quality and design of the hinges.
