If your dacha has an artificial or natural reservoir, then it would be quite appropriate to equip it with a beautiful bridge. This element of landscape design will help make the site unique and stylish. Let's talk about it in more detail.

What to consider before construction

Most often, such a structure has a functional purpose and serves as a ferry across the reservoir. However, there is also an alternative to this approach. You can build a decorative wooden bridge.

The best places for such structures, according to landscape designers:

  • ditches, ravines, dry streams;
  • ponds, rivers, canals and lakes;
  • beds, flower beds, lawns, flower beds;
  • paths near decorative arches and arbors.

Choosing a place for construction

  1. When there is a stream and a pond at the same time at the dacha, the best solution would be to build a bridge over the stream. After all, a small structure is safer and will not require significant labor and financial investments from you.
  2. The bridges connecting the islets on the pond are very effective.
  3. The basics of engineering, and even simple logic, suggest that you should equip the crossing at the narrowest point of the reservoir. Most likely, she will divide the water surface into two parts of different sizes. It can be used. For example, emphasizing the main volume of a reservoir and a sandbank, or delimiting a garden and a place to rest.
  4. In a regular garden with an artificial reservoir of regular rectangular shape, the principle of symmetry applies. According to him, it is desirable to make the bridge exactly in the middle of the pond. Then, in addition to the crossing, the structure will also serve as an observation platform.

Note!
Like other landscape structures, wooden bridges for a summer residence should harmoniously fit into the design of a suburban area.
Moreover, the structure must be safe and durable.

Bridge material, design and shape

Of course, timber is the best choice for all structures in the suburban area. Among other things, it goes well with other types of building materials.

The best woods for building a bridge are oak, larch and cedar. The instruction warns that it is possible to ensure maximum durability of the structure if it is impregnated with an antiseptic and moisture-protective agent. These compositions will not in any way affect the color and texture of the material, but they will protect it from harmful insects and microorganisms and give it moisture-repellent properties.

At the initial stage of work, you need to create a visualization of the bridge in the form of its sketch, drawing, diagram. To do this, you need to know what types of such structures exist. The table below presents the main types of small bridges.

Bridge construction Features of the structure
Straight The simplest design. Often made without railings, however, if necessary, equipped with them. The structure is typical of country and rustic styles.
Arched, popularly called "humpback" The design is ideal for construction on shores with different height levels. The optimum width of the structure is at least two meters. The maximum allowable bend is 20 degrees.
Stepped The structure consists of a given number of stairs connected by platforms. The design is relevant if there are significant elevation differences between opposite banks.
Step by step It is used on shallow crossings. In fact, it is a chain of pillars made of wood, stone, concrete, which do not have a connecting canvas.
Suspension The basis of the safety of such a structure is reliable chains, cables, ropes and a solid foundation, on which the wooden flooring is based.
Zigzag The shape is typical for the East, including Japan. This configuration of the structure is considered by the Asians to be the best protection against evil spirits.

Construction of a structure

First of all, for work, you will need to prepare tools and materials.

What will be needed

  1. Wooden beams and boards.
  2. Hammer, screwdrivers, plane, saw, drill, file, nails, screws.
  3. Brushes.
  4. Emery cloth of various grain sizes.
  5. Roulette, pencil,
  6. Varnish or paint, antiseptic, moisture-proof composition.

Bridge installation

  1. You should start to mount the wooden bridge with your own hands with the arrangement of the support platform as well as strengthening the slopes and banks, if necessary. To do this, you can use crushed stone and stone of different fractionation.
  2. On the platform-support is mounted, it will serve as the basis for the design.
  3. The mating points of these bridge elements must be waterproofed using roofing material or polyethylene.
  4. To prevent the displacement of the base, the bars should be fixed with metal profiles.
  5. Boards are laid on them and a pressure bar is mounted.
  6. You can fix the flooring with both nails and self-tapping screws.... It is undesirable for their hats to protrude above the level of the boards. Therefore, they should be drowned by 3-4 mm.

  1. Now you can put the railing... The optimum installation height is 0.7-1 m.
  2. Last but not least, the bridge is treated with an antiseptic and moisture-resistant impregnation, then painted or covered with weather-resistant varnish.

Note!
Construction becomes more complicated when the width of the reservoir in a suburban area is more than 6 m.
In this case, wooden bridges for the garden must have a capital foundation made of reinforced concrete, as well as intermediate supports.

Before punching nails or screwing in self-tapping screws, drill small holes in the boards with a drill. This will prevent the wood from cracking and will increase the service life of the structure.

This is a special case if you decide to build a stepped bridge. Then lifts should be attached to its foundation, which will be the bases of the steps.

On top of them, attach narrow strips that will create the outer canvas of the structure.

To mount the railings, you can buy balusters (then the price of the structure will increase significantly) or use a regular small-section bar. It should be sanded and soaked in an antiseptic.

The simplest form is rectangular. In most cases, it is chosen when assembling the bridge yourself. Rounded or more complex handrails are best ordered from a carpentry workshop.

Output

Now you know how to make country wooden bridges. These structures can simultaneously perform functional tasks and serve as a decoration for a suburban area. The video in this article will expand on its topic.

The design of a flat driveway to your own plot is often complicated by the adjacent ditches and trenches for drainage of wastewater. By filling the depressions with earth or small stones, the owner interferes with the outflow of liquid during rain, which threatens to flood the site. To prevent stagnant moisture, you need to build a solid structure of concrete and metal that does not restrict the flow of water.

Easy entry through a ditch made of various materials

Getting started with arranging the entrance with your own hands, they make measurements of the deepening and determine the optimal diameter of the pipe. The latter does not have to be large in size, since the liquid passes through any hole. This will avoid the acquisition of an unnecessarily large pipe and overpayment.

Large diameter metal pipe in the structure of the drive through the ditch

For a long time, preference was given to metal or concrete structures. Today, reinforced concrete pipes are often used, which are devoid of the disadvantages of these materials: corrosion of iron and cracking of concrete under significant loads. Their large weight is their main disadvantage, which entails an increase in the cost of transportation and stacking.

Ride with asbestos pipe is not suitable for the truck

Asbestos-cement pipes combine lightness and affordable cost. Structures are not subject to corrosion, and therefore will last longer than metal products. Low wear resistance is the main disadvantage of asbestos cement. To extend the service life of the water conduit, it is covered with a dense layer of sand and gravel. This will allow the structure to withstand the load of the car and serve for many years.

Wooden flooring made of sleepers through a ditch will last a lot

A wooden canopy over the ditch is the least practical option for arranging a drive to the site. The structure is a dense wood flooring treated with antiseptics, which is thrown over the recess. To fix it, sand, crushed stone and concrete are required, which, together with the low wear resistance of wood, makes this method of organizing the move the most financial and labor-intensive.

The plastic pipe is easy to deliver and lay in the ditch

A corrugated plastic pipe is the best option for arranging a drive through a ditch. Due to its relative lightness, non-susceptibility to corrosion and strength, which allows it to keep its shape under the influence of high loads, it is considered the most profitable way of organizing the entrance to the site.

The product consists of two layers: an inner smooth sleeve ensures unhindered movement of water, and an outer corrugated cover serves to create the necessary rigidity of the product. To extend the service life, it is covered with a dense layer of sand and gravel.

It must ensure the free passage of water, especially during the period of melting snow and heavy rains. It must be borne in mind that waste water is enriched with small stones and debris. In order to avoid clogging of the water passage and flooding of the area, it is recommended to install lattice barriers.
Drive through a ditch with concrete pipe and retaining walls

Reinforcement of the driveway with retaining walls

To ensure a long-term and reliable service, the structure is fixed on the sides with retaining walls that protrude above the ground level and limit the road bed. Instructions for installing retaining elements on your own include the following steps:

  1. Pipe laying. After removing the water, the depression is drained and the topsoil is removed. After that, a sand pillow is placed on the bottom of the ditch, and a pipe is placed on it. The size of the structure is determined based on the amount of water passing through it. Be sure to take into account the fact that in winter it is 1/4 filled with ice. The narrow structure does not cope with the flow of water, which in spring can lead to flooding of the site.
  2. Concrete slab creation. After laying the pipe, the formwork is mounted for pouring concrete. To increase the strength of the system, it is reinforced with a metal frame.
  3. Strengthening and decoration of the check-in. After the concrete mass has dried, the formwork is removed, and the necessary layer of crushed stone and sand is laid between the walls. You can pave the passage with stones or paving stones.

Exit from the road to a site with a slope from the bottom and from the top

With a slight downward or upward slope, the entrance is made in the form of a ramp, which gradually turns into a carriageway. Its length should be within 5 m. The higher the angle of inclination, the longer the entrance should be. The optimum slope level is 25 degrees. The length and angle of inclination of the ramp depend on the specific conditions on the site, but it is recommended to adhere to traditional proportions.

With the help of concrete, you can equip a drive on any slope

The construction of a concrete ramp includes the following stages:

  1. Preparation. To avoid mistakes, it is recommended to sketch a sketch of the future structure, taking into account the peculiarities of the congress. Having developed a step-by-step work plan, they begin earthworks. At the same time, the top layer of the soil is removed and the soil is leveled.
  2. Making a pillow. To ensure the proper strength of the structure, a mixture of sand and gravel is distributed in the formed pit with a layer of 5-10 cm.
  3. Reinforcement. A metal mesh, placed in a concrete mass, fixes it securely, preventing concrete spreading, and later - cracking. With a slight slope, you can get by with a concrete curb that encloses the driveway.
  4. Pouring concrete. For the construction of a ramp, a viscous mass is used, which hardens, not having time to spread and form irregularities. It is important to make the track in one work cycle. During the drying of the concrete, it is periodically moistened.
  5. Finishing. For complete solidification, the concrete mass is left for several days, after which the protrusions are removed with the help of a grinder. The surface of the ramp is covered with paving slabs or other durable material.

Extending the race track on uneven terrain

In order to reduce the angle of inclination of the roadbed, the drive path should be lengthened. Thus, in order to secure the entrance to the territory, you can make an access road around the house or allotment. This method is optimal for large uneven areas where there is no way to level the ground. The photo shows that the circular road allows you to significantly change the angle of the slope and make the ride convenient and comfortable.

An access road around the plot facilitates entry

To protect the road from icing, a canopy made of polycarbonate, slate or other material is installed over it. In any case, the coating of the canvas must be rough. It is possible to use dense concrete, which is not completely leveled when laying. There is also an anti-slip paving stone.

A high-tech solution to combat ice on the surface - the use of built-in heating. It may seem that it is too expensive, but abroad they equip heating of full-fledged roads. In the simplest version, a neat slide of sand next to the entrance will help out both cars and people in any weather.

Summing up, we can say that the entrance to the site can be arranged in a variety of ways, depending on the terrain and the owner's preferences. An instructive example is provided in the following video.

On one's own. Ennobled, harmoniously inscribed in the landscape, they are equipped with bridges of varying degrees of decorativeness. Romantically inclined natures build them on the flat surface of the site, over small grooves, flower beds and "dry streams", because they decorate the site, making it more interesting and well-groomed.

Members of our portal offer many options for decorative bridges, embodied on their sites. Let's use their experience.

The style of decorative bridges depends on the size and composition of the area. It is better to decorate small areas with small bridges; larger objects will fit well into a larger area.

If your house is built in a modern style, and has a clear, strict layout, then it is better to choose simple shapes for the appearance of the bridge.

How to build a decorative bridge yourself

If the bridge, in addition to purely decorative functions, has serious practical importance, then it should be of medium and larger sizes. And in this case, it is better to consult with or entrust them with all the work. A small bridge over a shallow ditch or a bridge, whose only function is to decorate the site, is quite capable of doing it yourself, following the flight of your own imagination and the advice of "experienced" portal participants.

You can combine both options by ordering some parts, and doing most of the work yourself. This is how FORUMHOUSE user did his humpback bridge IlyaOgnev- he ordered the bent blanks in the workshop, he bought most of the rest himself. The parts were welded, the wood was processed and the bridge installed on his own. For installation, he needed a welding machine, a laser level, broken brick, cement, and ordinary working tools.

Finished bridge:

Hardware, nuts, bolts were used to fasten the units. Tools - a screwdriver, a jigsaw, a drill - are the most common tools for working with wood. The cost of all purchased materials was only 1,000 rubles per bridge!

Security

It's not just the reliability of your structure that matters. Any, even the most "toy" bridge should be safe, as it will definitely be used in children's games, I will test it for strength by jumping and running.

Considering that all country bridges are small, pay attention to the handrails - it is better to avoid open sharp corners and protruding parts at the level of the child's head. Also, iron is heated by the sun in summer, which can cause burns to the hands. Such handrails are unlikely to be pleasant in winter, so it is better to cover them with wood or make them entirely from this material.

It is also important to think about how to protect yourself and your household in the event of a fall on the bridge - the opening between the sidewalls and the bottom should not be too large. If you slip on a wet surface, your foot can easily slip into this space, and then injury cannot be avoided.

The surface of the boards should not be perfectly flat when it comes to a humped bridge. It is important to make the entrance and exit convenient, flush with the bridge. And, of course, it must be stable, so it is necessary to take into account the shrinkage of the supports, the impact of precipitation and the reservoir on the soil under the bridge in advance.

Budget

The most expensive bridges are made of metal and specially prepared boards. Wooden bridges made from scrap materials will cost several orders of magnitude cheaper. You can build them yourself, attracting specialists will add costs.

Practicality

When arranging a backyard territory, it is often required to lay the pipe in a ditch to drive to the site. It is embedded in. Thanks to this system, the entrance to the site becomes available at any time of the year and in any weather.

Reinforced concrete products

The first step is to choose the drainage material. In this case, it is very important that it withstands strong pressure loads. Therefore, first you need to find out which pipes are best suited for the device for driving through a ditch.

Reinforced concrete products are quite common. Their strength is not disputed by anyone. Laying them on your own is impossible. Very heavy products have to be assembled using special equipment.

A concrete type of pipes is made in two stages:

  1. First, a steel frame is made from reinforcement rods welded round with each other.
  2. Next, the base is poured with high grade concrete mortar. After that, the workpiece is compacted using a centrifuge and vibrocompression.

Due to the peculiarities of production, reinforced concrete products are very durable and smooth. Therefore, in this case, you should not worry if you decide to lay the ends of the pipe under the stones.

The structure of the vibropressed material is as dense as possible. Therefore, water cannot penetrate inside it and contribute to the rusting of the steel frame.

Consider the parameters of reinforced concrete pipes:

  • their cross-section can be 0.3-1.2 m;
  • wall thickness is 140-200 mm;
  • the length ranges from 250 to 500 cm.

Reinforced concrete pipes for drainage ditches have two stiffness classes:

  1. The parameter of the first category means that the product can be buried no more than 6 m into the ground. Such structures are not suitable for deeper burial.
  2. The material of the second class of stiffness has a higher bearing capacity. It can be placed at depths of up to 10 m.

The main advantages of reinforced concrete drainage are its high level of strength and long service life. The main disadvantages are high cost, large size and weight. It is possible to lay concrete structures only with the help of special equipment.

A separate type of such structures are asbestos-cement pipes for arrival. They are lighter and more compact than reinforced concrete analogs.

Steel products

Steel is another common drainage material. It is very durable and products made from it last 30-40 years. Installation of such structures will allow you to completely solve the problem of entering the site. Trucks will also be able to enter its territory.

Another important advantage of the material is that steel pipes for driving through a ditch can be installed on their own. It is not necessary to involve professionals for this. This situation will save the construction budget.

The main disadvantage of steel pipes is their susceptibility to corrosion. However, this disadvantage can be stopped if the products are waterproofed, for example, using paint waterproofing. Thick-walled counterparts can also be purchased. This will automatically extend their lifespan.

So that you don't have to. It is not necessary to use a used pipe in the ditch for driving. Once installed, old material can deform and therefore burst when heavy vehicles are driven.

Plastic analogs

The plastic pipes in the ditch at the entrance are the most modern. They are lightweight and easy to install. This does not require significant physical effort and hiring special equipment. Arrangement of a drainage ditch with a plastic pipe can be done on your own.

Plastic drainage is inexpensive. The important advantages of the material, in comparison with metal, are that it does not corrode and is inert to chemically aggressive media. Drainage structures are made of extra strong plastic. It can withstand increased pressure loads when passing vehicles. Therefore, products made from it are laid even under main roads. The process of laying plastic pipes in a ditch under the driveway is completely safe. Also, the material can withstand temperatures from -60 degrees to +95.

In the manufacture of polymer drainage, the following are most often used:

  • polyvinyl chloride;
  • polyethylene;
  • polypropylene.

In most cases, PVC products are used. It can be single-layer or double-layer. In the second case, the products are corrugated pipes, they are also perfect for driving through them to the site. Their top layer is made in the form of an accordion. This increases the elasticity of the drainage and helps it withstand pressure loads.

Corrugated products can have a large diameter and length from 1 to 6 meters. Also, their top layer can be filtering.

It is advisable to use the hardest plastic drainage material for laying in a ditch. This approach will also be able to withstand heavy vehicles. The best option is to choose a double-layer plastic corrugated pipe for installation. It is the most durable polymer analogue.

The cross-section of such structures can be from 0.2 meters to 1. It is extremely undesirable to install used structures. They have reduced strength, and the service life of such drainage will be short.

Do-it-yourself pipe installation in a ditch: a step-by-step order of work

When the soil on the territory is prone to waterlogging, then before you do it yourself entering the site through the ditch, it must be drained. It is important here, when constructing drainage, not to harm the natural runoff of rain, melt or subsoil water.

First, let's talk about how to make a simple option for entering the site through a ditch with our own hands. You need to work when the trench is not filled with water:

  1. Remove the topsoil along the future entrance.
  2. Spread quartz river sand at the bottom of the trench. Smooth it out and tamp it down. The thickness of the sand cushion should be 15-20 cm.
  3. When the width of the passage is 6 meters, a structure with a length of at least 8 m is placed in the ditch. Its diameter is selected based on the volume of wastewater. Most often, products with a diameter of 30-50 cm are stacked. This implies that water will fill them by a quarter. Otherwise, in the spring season, melt moisture can fill the courtyard without finding a way out through the ice crust.
  4. After installing the pipe under the driveway, it should be covered with a mixture of sand and gravel or gravel. The bedding can be done in two layers. First, cover the trench with sand, lay geotextiles on top of it, and then lay crushed stone.
  5. In the same way, you should fill up the areas with the removed top layer of soil.
  6. All layers after laying them should be well morning.
  7. It is recommended to complete the entry device with concreting. Without a screed, as well as restraints on the sides, the road will begin to part when cars move.

More complex structure of entrance through drainage with retaining walls

It is more reliable, since a plastic corrugated pipe for driving is concreted on both sides. Thus, the road is limited by support walls. They can be made protruding above the plane of arrival or filled with it flush.

Here is a diagram of how to equip not only durable, but also more aesthetic passage to the site:

  1. When the laying of the pipe into the ditch for the drive is completed, the formwork for the head of concrete is mounted in turn on both sides of it.
  2. Then it is highly desirable to strengthen the supporting walls with a welded reinforcing cage.
  3. After that, a high grade concrete solution is placed in the formwork - M-400 or M-500.
  4. The concrete must dry for at least 3-4 days. The formwork can then be removed.
  5. Further, the pipe under the entrance is covered with sand and crushed stone (or gravel). The heads will not allow the gravel to part. Therefore, it is possible not to cover it with geotextiles. It is better to use stone chips of granite rather than white limestone.
  6. After that, the passage can be lined with concrete screed, road slabs, paving slabs, paving stones, natural stone, etc.

How to equip an entrance to a plot with a slope

It may happen that on your site the passage to it will not be even, but with a slope. In this case, the bias can be both positive and negative. In other words - up or down from the roadway.

Watch the video

In any case, it is necessary to ensure sufficient adhesion of the roadway to the wheels of the vehicle in order to ensure the safety of the passage. Such a situation should not be left to chance.

Entry device when sloping up or down from the road

When the relief of the land in front of the site has a small angle of inclination, or you are planning to build a basement garage, it is best to equip the drive in the form of a ramp. The slope of the road (up or down from the site) is considered to be small up to 25 percent. In other words, for each meter of the length of the canvas, the height difference is up to 25 centimeters. Before the parking lot, the slope should be leveled to a level horizontal plane.

The pipe for entering the site through the ditch should be laid correctly. With the existing slope, it is necessary to carry out the following stages of construction:

  1. First, earthworks are carried out. Marking is done, then the topsoil is removed in the form of steps.
  2. The sides of the drive are reinforced with retaining walls. Under them, the formwork is knocked down, in which the frame from the reinforcement is welded. Then concrete solution is poured into the box.
  3. When the slope is small and the car does not need to be lowered into the basement, the edges of the road can be limited by a curb of concrete slabs.
  4. Then a pipe is laid on the sand cushion for the drainage ditch for the drive.
  5. Then the drainage is covered with gravel in a layer of 10-15 cm. The pillow should be well compacted.
  6. Then the ascent or descent is poured with a concrete screed. Its thickness should be at least 10-12 cm. The mixture should be kneaded sufficiently dense and viscous, otherwise it will begin to slip when it sets.
  7. When the screed is completely dry, the driveway can be faced with paving slabs, paving stones or natural stone.

Other solutions for safe passage in uneven terrain

As a variation of safe passage to the site, you can consider its arrangement along a curved path (spiral). In this case, the length of the path will increase, but the angle of inclination will decrease. With this option, the roadbed can be run around the circumference of the main building.

This solution will make it possible to arrange parking for several cars. The only limitation for the construction of such a check-in is that the suburban area must be large enough.

To protect the driveway from icing, you can put a canopy over it. The easiest way is to build it from polycarbonate, screwed to a metal frame from supports and trusses in the form of arches. Asbestos-cement slate, metal tiles, profiled decking are also suitable as a roofing material for a canopy. This protection will be especially useful if you will not be building a garage.

As a de-icing measure, you can use a cable electric heating of the driveway cover. Then its surface in the cold season will always be free of snow and ice.

Conclusion

Knowing how to lay the pipe in a run-in ditch can help you create a safe and efficient drainage area. In this case, you can use products from different materials. They all have their pluses and minuses.

Special drainage ditches are usually dug between the road and the fence that encloses your site. And in order to cross them, you need to build a bridge. You can, of course, just throw the board, but it will not look very aesthetically pleasing, especially if beautiful pedestrian paths are installed on your site. Well, if your site is equipped with a gate for the arrival of automobile transport, then no one, of course, will help here. It is necessary to build a quality bridge. There are several options for installing bridges over drainage ditches.

Making a wooden bridge

A wooden bridge is, of course, the easiest and most budgetary option for. It is very easy to install. On both sides of the drainage ditch, holes are dug. A sand pillow 20 centimeters high is poured into them, on which a bed is placed (a bar, or round logs). These beds must first be impregnated with some antiseptic solution and smeared with tar, which is diluted with diesel fuel. They are placed on the beds, which are also treated with an antiseptic and tar. The logs should be hewn from both sides. The distance between these logs should correspond to the distance between the vehicle tracks. Logs are attached to the benches with metal brackets.

Further, the flooring is nailed along these logs. Planks with a thickness of at least 60 mm are used as flooring. There should be a gap of 10-15 mm between the boards. This is done so that the entire bridge can be ventilated, which will significantly increase its durability. To increase the rigidity of the bridge, they are nailed along its edges. This is what concerns the wooden bridge.

Concrete bridge

The bridge will last much longer, but, accordingly, it will be more expensive. For a concrete bridge, you can use purchased items, but you can cast it yourself.

Four to eight concrete supports are installed on both sides of the ditch. Or concrete can be used as supports.
