What to make an outdoor toilet with your own hands. How to build a toilet in the country with your own hands: drawings, place, insulation, ventilation, lighting

The toilet is the first structure that is being built by the owner of the land plot.

If at first it is still somehow possible to do without a house by building a summer kitchen, then a septic tank cannot be attributed to secondary structures.

For many summer residents, it is with its device that the acquisition of construction experience begins.

How to build a country toilet? If you want to create a building with an original design, you need to determine the dimensions of the building. You can take a typical drawing, based on individual needs, develop a project that suits you.

An approximate plan for construction and design work looks like this:

  • Start with frame creation, add the dimensions of the building to the drawing. Calculate the amount of materials required to build it. On the plan, indicate the cross-section of the wooden beams and the dimensions of the planks.
  • Be sure to reflect on the drawing how it will be cut facing material... The scheme should have a calculation for one side wall of the building, as well as for its front wall and back. Don't forget to add building materials for the other side wall. Optimal toilet width 1.2 m, height - 2 m.
  • If you want to expand the building, make adjustments into the drawing. The front wall, like the back, is made rectangular. Lateral - trapezoidal, this allows you to achieve the desired slope of the roof. In one of the walls of the building, it is necessary to cut out a window, through which light will penetrate into the toilet in the country. In addition, the window is necessary for ventilation of the room.
  • Floor slab made of boards thick 50 mm, then the village toilet is sheathed with OSB sheet. The boards are installed on a base made of timber; nails are used to connect the parts of the structure. In order to increase the strength of the building, all the elements are connected into a groove. Its depth should be at least 50 mm.
  • Make a door... Practice shows that the optimal size 1.95x70.5 cm. Toilets for summer cottages can be made from edged boards, often construction is carried out from OSB boards. When erecting the roof, put the rafters, between them there should be a step of 40 cm.To make them, buy boards 100x50 mm... Nail their frame, the connection is made with nails. You can cover the roof of the toilet with slate or profiled sheets.

Respect the proportions. Remember that increasing the standard size will incur additional costs for the purchase of building materials.

A standard drawing can be taken as the basis for a wooden toilet. If you wish, country toilets can be made according to individual sizes.

Drawings and design of the "birdhouse" toilet

Regardless of which toilet you choose, it will require a stall. « Birdhouse » - one of the most demanded options.

  1. In order to make the frame and the floor, buy boards... It is best to choose larch lumber, then the structure will be especially durable. On the doors, crate and walls, you can put a pine board. All parts of the structure should be covered with an antiseptic.
  2. Make the base 1 × 1 m, lay a forty-board on the floor. The front wall is 2 m high and the rear one 2.3 m. When building, be sure to use a level.
  3. When the frame is ready board the toilet. Install the doors, after that you can proceed to work on the roofing device. Completes the process of performing external work.

If you are going to make a "birdhouse" by equipping it with a cesspool, make a foundation. For this purpose, concrete blocks can be used. 20x20x40 cm... Cover the roof with a profile sheet, and make the ridge out of a bent strip of galvanized steel.

Drawings and construction of a "hut" type toilet

« Hut » Is another popular option.

  1. Assemble the front wall first, and then go to the back. The easiest way to build a building is from edged pine boards with a thickness 30 mm, use screws or nails for fastening.
  2. Install cross and longitudinal beams, and then spacer. Make a cross member of the pedestal, be sure to attach it to the back wall, do not forget about the spacer beam.
  3. After you finish work on the frame, boards sew up the base of the floor... Make a platform, and then move on to the sheathing of the slopes. After that, you can collect and hang a door to the country toilet.

Drawings and construction of the toilet "teremok"

For regions in which winters are snowy, building is ideal « teremok » ... Such a toilet is perfectly protected from the wind. The shape is unusual, you can make such a structure from scrap materials.

Pay attention to the shape of the door . Its upper end is rounded, so construction will take longer.

Construction may seem like a rather difficult task for novice builders. Pay attention to the geometry of the corners, then the building will be symmetrical.

Powder closet

Powder closet is another construction option. Usually, a country toilet with their own hands is made in those places where groundwater rises close to the surface. The design differs in that it does not have an underground waste storage facility.

Powder closet is great for giving. But a house in which a year-round residence is planned is best equipped with a septic tank.

  1. The foundation is concreted, the toilet cubicle can be of any shape.
  2. Inside the building, a pedestal is made with a hole into which a waste container is inserted.

Backlash closet

The backlash closet is made both inside houses and on the street.

  1. The toilet is cleaned with the help of sewage machines, this is done once a season.
  2. The cesspool is made sealed, this is a prerequisite that must be observed when erecting a building.

The toilet cubicle can be of any shape.

Shower-toilet

A toilet shower for a summer residence is a building that combines two rooms under one roof.

  1. A partition is erected between the toilet and shower, each section has its own door. Height and width of the building - 2 m, length - 3 m.
  2. The upper and lower strapping can be made from a bar 100 × 100 mm, and for vertical supports - a bar 50 × 100 mm... Buy a sufficient amount of timber, you should make 24 supports.
  3. Also, do 12 blanks 200 cm long... They will go to the device of roof overlaps, use a bar with a cross-section 50x100 mm.

We start construction

Materials and tools

Before starting work, buy lumber in advance.

  • To build a frame, purchase a bar. Pay attention to its cross section, the best option is 100 x 100 mm, to increase the strength of the building, you can buy lumber with a cross section 150 x 150 mm.
  • For lining the toilet, you will need an edged board not less than 20 mm thick.
  • Roof lathing requires slats 50 × 20 mm, and a tongue-and-groove board will go to the floor 40 × 150 mm.

You can easily replace the sheathing board by purchasing OSB boards, or sheets of waterproof plywood. If you opted for OSB, then the slats can be cut from these plates.

You will need the following tools:

  1. hammer, screws and nails;
  2. shovel and bucket;
  3. pliers;
  4. hammer drill or hammer drill;
  5. brush for applying stain and paint;
  6. containers for solutions and paint.

How to choose a seat

Determine where you plan to make the toilet. Its remoteness from the house and other buildings depends on whether it will have a cesspool, or the building will be made without it.

Remember that construction should not interfere with neighbors, do not forget to indent from the fence by 1 meter. The door should open towards your yard. When digging a cesspool, leave access roads for the sewer truck.

Sump toilet

Most of the restrictions apply to the construction of cesspools. They must be securely insulated to prevent environmental pollution.

  • The cesspool should be located in 25 m from the water source... It can be a well, a well, or a body of water. The rule also applies to water sources located in neighboring areas.
  • From the cesspool to the basement or cellar, there must be at least 12 m, to the bathhouse or home - 8 m... To buildings that contain animals, not less than 4 m... Pay attention not only to the location of buildings on your site, but also on the neighboring one. This will help to avoid the emergence of conflict situations.

Before starting construction, it is necessary to select the internal arrangement of the toilet. The building can be with or without a cesspool.

If the groundwater comes close to the surface, being higher than 3.5 m from the surface, you can only build a building without a hole. Otherwise, waste will be found in the water.

If the groundwater comes close to the surface, being higher than 3.5 m from the surface, you can only build a building without a hole.

Similar restrictions are imposed on structures erected on shale rocks and in areas with natural fractures. Consider the water level in the spring when the snow melts. The lowest point of the cesspool should be 1 m above the maximum water level in spring.

If the groundwater is deep, then any type of garden toilet can be made on the site. The optimal volume of the pit is 1.5 cubic meters; it can be located under the building or away from it.

A cesspool can be:

  1. round shape;
  2. square shape.

In the first case, concrete rings are used for its arrangement. In addition, the walls can be made of bricks and rubble stone. But remember that this option will require labor, time and some financial investment.

  • Pay special attention tightness of the bottom and walls... At the bottom, a castle is made from a layer of clay. It is compacted, the layer thickness should be at least 30 cm... If there is no desire to work with clay, the bottom can be filled with concrete.
  • Be sure to do bituminous waterproofing.
  • Inside the toilet it is necessary make a hatch or leave some planks loose on the floor. You can choose a design in which the hatch is placed outside the toilet.
  • It is recommended to equip the toilet ventilation system... When filling the pit to 2/3 of the volume, the contents should be pumped out.

Detailed instructions for the construction of a cesspool from tires:

Pitless options

It is much easier to build a wooden toilet for a summer residence without a cesspool. Waste will be collected in an airtight container.

There are several types of such toilets, but the differences relate only to the way waste is recycled.

  • In dry closets, microorganisms are engaged in this, in chemical installations - special substances.
  • In a powder closet, the waste is sprinkled with powder, which can be peat, sawdust or ash.

Building a house

When the work on the arrangement of the cesspool is completed, you can proceed to the construction of the base.

It must be stable, and its reliability is also important. These are the main points to pay attention to.

If windy weather is often observed in the region, it is better to use metal pipes as a base. They must be buried in the ground, and the bars must be installed inward. This will further strengthen the structure.

If windy weather is often observed in the region, it is better to use metal pipes as a base.

The frame is made of wooden beams. For the base, buy lumber with a larger section, and for the supporting elements, you can choose thinner bars. For the device of the opening door, take a beam of 100 × 100 mm.

  1. Saddle the base first by connecting the bars with nails. To make it easier to work, the bars can be pre-fastened with thin strips. Reinforce the base with stiffeners. For this purpose, use lumber with a smaller section. It is very good if the frame and stiffeners are one whole.
  2. For roofing at the top of the frame make a crate... The crush can be covered with slate, you will need one sheet. In order to fix it, fill in the strips on the front and back of the booth. At the bottom of the frame, fix the beams, they will become the basis for the floor. After that, you can proceed to the construction of walls. Board them with a board, this is the best option. In addition, chipboard or plywood sheets can be used.
  3. Make a door... After attaching the awnings, install it in the opening.
  4. Cover the roof with slate or other material.
  5. If you want you can paint the toilet.

How to make ventilation

The following options are available:

  1. Leave the building as it is. In this case, the air in the booth will move by itself.
  2. Forced ventilation. It is based on the installation of a fan.

You can choose any option for organizing the hood, but each of them requires ventilation holes in the walls. These are supply and exhaust ducts. A mandatory requirement will be the arrangement of the hood over the cesspool.

Forced ventilation is more efficient, it quickly removes unpleasant odors from the toilet. But the organization of such a system will require certain financial costs from the owner of the suburban area.

To organize forced ventilation, you need to buy the following:

  • fan;
  • switches;
  • the wire.

Forced ventilation quickly removes methane, but it is difficult to assemble such a unit. If you want to keep the air in the toilet always fresh, this option will be most suitable. But without electricity, such an installation will not work.

The natural way of ventilation is good because it does not require additional equipment.

In order to make supply ventilation, install a hood in the pit. It is required so that the gas does not flow into the booth, but is taken out into the street.

Make a chimney. To do this, buy a product with a diameter of at least 10 cm... The length of the pipe depends on how deep the hole is in the toilet. An impact drill is required for work, in some cases you cannot do without a hammer drill. The choice of tools depends on what material the booth is made of.

When laying the pipe in the ground, do not forget about its protection; for this purpose, buy a casing. You will also need fasteners. Those that are designed for gutters are well suited. In order to make the system work more efficiently, purchase a deflector.

The ventilation installation process consists of the following steps:

  1. Using the tool, make a hole in a cesspool.
  2. Install fasteners along the height of the building. Insert the pipe and secure her.
  3. Install the deflector.

Make holes in the walls of the toilet, placing them on opposite sides. Closer to the ceiling, there should be a place for an exhaust hood, and an inlet opening near the floor. Take a mesh and close the ventilation ducts to prevent debris from entering the toilet and also to protect the building from insects.

Install the fan by attaching it to the exhaust vent. For a standard toilet up to 2 m², a device whose power does not exceed 30 Watt... Supply electricity by routing a cable. Connect the fan, connect it to the mains.

Lighting

Toilet lighting options are as follows:

  • air line;
  • underground cable;
  • solar-powered lanterns.

An overhead line is not the best solution if you do not want wires to go over the area from the house to the toilet. Laying the cable underground is more aesthetically pleasing, but few people would like to spend so much money and time installing lighting in the toilet.

  • you can use LED lights, which are designed to illuminate the garden. There are products of various shapes and weights on sale. They are inexpensive and can be bought by any gardener.
  • Since bright light is not needed installing one flashlight will be enough for lighting. Buy a product, separate the top. Take a knife and cut off the clips, then they will not interfere with you.
  • Measure the protruding part of the lantern- the one that is equipped with an LED and a battery. If necessary, you can easily replace the battery.
  • Make a hole in the wall of the building appropriate size. Insert lantern, fix with glue. A silicone sealant is best suited for this purpose.

How to make insulation

The choice of a suitable insulation option must be determined in advance. Much depends on whether you plan to insulate the internal or external parts of the structure.

When planning your interior work, remember that space is limited. Choose a material that does not take up much space during installation. It is important that it reliably protects against frost, cold and wind. In favor of insulation from the inside, it is also said that this type of laying of the material will require less money. However, each case is different.

When choosing external insulation, be prepared for more painstaking work. Due to limited space, buy insulation materials that are no wider than 75 mm... The ideal option would be to install sheets of mineral wool. To fix it, buy rectangular metal rails.

Due to limited space, buy thermal insulation materials that are no more than 75 mm wide.

  • For the waterproofing device, you will need a film, and for the sheathing, drywall. It is best to opt for moisture resistant sheets.
  • Purchase self-tapping screws and profiles. They will be required in order to make a high-quality mount.
  • To putty the joints between the sheets, buy a putty.

To choose the right amount of material, it is necessary to take into account the dimensions of the building. Insulation installation consists of the following steps:

  1. Take wooden slats. Make a crate stuffing it on the walls with a step of 50 cm.
  2. Lay the insulation sheets... Fix them with self-tapping screws, attaching to the crate. The material should be placed on the walls, do not forget about the ceiling.
  3. Put a film on the insulation, it is required to protect the mineral wool from moisture. Secure the foil with tape.
  4. Cover the insulation with moisture-resistant drywall... They are mounted on self-tapping screws, and installed on a metal profile.
  5. Joints of sheets seal up with putty.

If you want, you can stick wallpaper or tiles on the drywall.

You can build a toilet by hiring a construction team, you can also buy a ready-made one.

  • The cost of the "Hut" or "Birdhouse" starts from 6500 rubles.
  • Hozblok with toilet - from 12 to 18 thousand rubles.
  • Delivery is possible, its cost depends on the destination and region.

You can build a toilet in the country with your own hands very quickly. All parts of the structure made of wood should be treated with biocides. These drugs are effective against rot. Saturate the wood twice with a water-polymer emulsion. This tool is inexpensive, it will reliably protect lumber from dampness for many years.

  • Sheathing with tongue-and-groove material will show all the advantages if you start stuffing the board with a horizontal belt. Note that the ridges must be placed upward and the grooves must be placed downward. This will prevent moisture from accumulating in the tongue. But the door is always sheathed, placing the boards vertically.
  • If you are going to make a building, and the drawing involves the device of curved sections, then sheathe them with a boat board. Marine plating will last much longer.
  • In regions where there is a lot of rainfall in summer and winter, such a sheathing will be an ideal option. But remember that in regions where strong winds prevail, it is better to give preference to sheet piling.
  • If you have an electric jigsaw that has a swivel shoe, you can make your own boatboard out of regular edged lumber.
  • All parts that face the ground or cesspool should be additionally treated with bitumen mastic or hot bitumen.

Conclusion

Do-it-yourself construction of a country toilet is a task that even novice builders can do.

  1. Before starting work, determine the place of construction and the level of groundwater, the type of structure depends on it.
  2. Make a drawing.
  3. Buy lumber in advance, prepare tools.

You can assemble a toilet for a summer residence in a few days.

This video describes in detail how to make a toilet for a summer residence:

It is difficult to imagine our man without a summer cottage in the suburbs, but even more difficult - a summer cottage without an equipped toilet. Suppose you don't have a home for living in your dacha, but still, there is a need to build a toilet. Even if you came to the site for a short time, in order to work, water the land or relax, in any case you will need a toilet. The building instructions are very simple and inexpensive to build.

Before you start building a country toilet with your own hands, you need to find the photo drawings first, and then choose a place for the construction.

Despite the first glance, the simplicity of the design of the toilet at the summer cottage, it belongs to the main buildings. The most important building on the site is a bathroom, many will confirm that it is simply impossible to be outside the city without it.

Of course, a toilet built on the street is no substitute for a comfortable toilet; it will provide only a few conveniences. But without it, it is impossible to fully work on the personal plot.

You need to know the sanitary standards for the construction of a toilet and create the building specified by them.

The construction of a toilet is not particularly difficult and does not require the involvement of specialists.

But in the building you need to observe some features.

Basic standards:

  • Convenient place to build a toilet. An unsuccessful place can lead to pollution of the area around the structure, soil, water. Therefore, non-observance of sanitary standards and ignorance can lead to health problems and to the attraction of fines from the sanitary service.
  • Make sure that construction does not create inconvenience to neighbors.
  • Consider a method for how the sump will be emptied.
  • If the water table is high, the toilet structure should be well sealed to avoid water pollution.

How to choose and build a summer cottage toilet with your own hands photos and what types of their design are there:

There are enough options for choosing the construction of a toilet, but the choice may be influenced by:

  • The budget allocated for the construction of the toilet;
  • The frequency of use of this structure;
  • Groundwater elevation level;
  • Funds allocated for the repair and disposal of waste.

The most popular and most common are toilets where the base is a cesspool. It contains waste, which is then absorbed into the soil, but sometimes you still need to call a sewer service car to clean the pit. The frequency of cleaning and calling the sewers depends on how deep the waste pit is, but this procedure can be very rare. Basically, the disposal problem can be solved with the help of earth, crushed stone, sand with which the pit is filled. After that, you have to choose the right site for the construction.

A toilet can be built from different materials, it can be:

  • boards;
  • metallic profile;
  • brick;
  • slate.

The most important part in the construction is ventilation and the quality of the frame base.

The main preference is given to buildings made of wood. The construction cost is not large and does not require special skills. A wooden toilet can be built in the style of a log cabin or a small house. If you come up with a drawing of a country toilet yourself, then you can get not only the necessary, but also a building that will decorate your site. As a decoration, you can take a lining. The advantage of a wooden toilet is that it can be easily rearranged to a new place.

Disadvantages of wooden buildings.

  • under the influence of the sun, the wood is deformed, dries quickly and bursts;
  • burnout of wood from the action of ultraviolet radiation;
  • moisture and dampness contributes to the deformation of the building frame;
  • due to dampness, fungi form, which destroy the wood, and it begins to rot and give off unpleasant odors.

In order to extend the service life of the building, it must be treated with special means in the form of impregnation. Wood can be primed and painted.

To build a toilet from a metal profile, you need to build a frame made of wood.

You can also build a frame from shaped pipes that can be connected by welding, but this requires some skill. The frame is sheathed with profile sheets and reinforced with self-tapping screws or rivets. The disadvantage of this design is strong heating in the sun, so it is advisable to find a place in the shade in advance. To prevent the toilet from heating up so much and to keep it cool inside, you can use expanded polystyrene sheets for upholstery.

The advantage of this design is protection from moisture, since the metal-profile sheets are coated with spraying.

A brick building cannot be moved, so this structure has difficulties.

A brick building also requires concrete floors. You also need to think about a way to clean the cesspool in advance. The costs of building such a toilet are higher, but it will already be a full-fledged building that does not need to be repaired for a long time.

You can build a toilet from the same brick that, for example, a garage or a house was built. If you build a country toilet, the dimensions should be selected immediately before the construction of the structure. This makes it possible to fit into the exterior of the courtyard and save money on construction.

The weight of this building is more than a wooden one, so you need to put a strong foundation under it. It is possible to build a foundation of a strip or columnar type, but the strip provides a number of advantages: low land costs, reduces the consumption of cement for pouring, safety and reliability.

A cesspool is the most inexpensive and simple way to build a toilet in a summer cottage, but there are also a number of restrictions and conditions for installation:

  • limestone or shale soil;
  • groundwater runs high;
  • the toilet is supposed to be used by a large number of people;

These factors do not allow the construction of a toilet based on a cesspool at a summer cottage, but you can solve this problem by building a bathroom without a drain pit: a backlash closet, a powder closet, a dry closet or a chemical one.

The backlash closet is based on a cesspool, but it is sealed. It is often installed near the toilet walls. The backlash closet requires the use of the services of a sewer to periodically empty the pit. The disadvantage of this structure is that it cannot be cleaned in winter, this requires heating.

Powder closet small tank size about 20 liters. This gives the advantage of the low cost of building this toilet. Its installation is necessary if the groundwater flows high.

The do-it-yourself country toilet created in this way bears the name because of its principle of operation. The waste in the pit is, as it were, “powdered” with a dry composition. For filling, a peat-sawdust mixture or peat is usually used. This helps to get rid of the bad smell. All waste is sent to a compost pit for composting.

A dry closet is a popular type of toilet among summer residents. He has the same principle as the powder closet - waste is processed using a peat mixture. You can also use biologics that contain bacteria.

Chemical toilets - chemical agents are poured into them. Do not forget about the safety when using this drug. For these purposes, substances such as bleach, formaldehyde are often used, but you need to be careful, they are very toxic.

The most important requirement for the construction of any toilet is that waste does not fall into the ground. Its construction is possible only when the water level in the ground is more than 2.5 m. The choice of a place for a toilet is influenced by:

  • the distance between the toilet and the water source, the further, the better the nearest distance is 30 m;
  • the building should be built at a distance from the cellars and basements;
  • buildings with pets must be no closer than 5 m;
  • from the fence to the toilet should be 1m.;
  • the choice of material for the construction of a toilet is important;

There are several types of toilets in the form of a birdhouse, a hut, a hut or a house. A drawing of a country toilet with dimensions of the "Birdhouse" type is made of wood, and sheathed with any other material. It is being built over a cesspool. If you find it difficult to draw up a drawing yourself, you can use ready-made projects.

During construction, a building level should be used to control the even placement of the structure. Do not forget about the presence of ventilation, which can be a pipe. It must be above roof level. In order to insulate the toilet, you can use polystyrene, you can decorate the inside as you wish.

Based on the drawing of the "Birdhouse" country toilet, we are building the "Shalash", it has a more complex design, but the result is worth it. "Shalash" has many different design options, for this you can use your imagination or the Internet. Dimensions can be used from a previous project.

Construction should start from the toilet pit, concrete blocks will be placed in it.

A special part of this building is the gable roof in the shape of a triangle. If this is a country toilet, the dimensions are selected individually in connection with the number of people who will use the toilet.

The construction consists of several stages. Initially, we mount the foundation using insulating material that will protect against moisture.

The construction of the "Shalash" begins with the installation of the foundation, then the lower part of the frame 1 by 1 meter and the construction of a cesspool. The base must be treated with an antiseptic.

The toilet can be sheathed with forcing or boards left over from work. The roof can be made from various materials in a length of 1.8 m, it rests on the front and rear of the frame and is fixed. The material for the roof can be selected according to your taste. It can be metal, wood, slate roof or corrugated board.

When installing the door, immediately attach the handle and hook to the door. At the end of the work, you need to treat the toilet with varnish or paint to improve the appearance of the building.

If it is impossible to dig a hole for the toilet, the solution is a homemade peat dry closet. It is easy to maintain and inexpensive. A detailed drawing of a country toilet can be found on the Internet.

🔨 A country toilet is easy to make with your own hands, if you make some effort and effort. We have selected dimensional drawings for popular country toilets that will serve you for decades! Also in the article you will find a step-by-step photo-instruction on the construction of a country toilet.

The most time-consuming stage in the process of erecting a latrine will be digging a pit, but this work can also be done. The aesthetic side of the building is a secondary issue, the most important thing is to properly arrange a cesspool and create a reliable foundation for the aboveground structure.

It should be noted that some owners of suburban areas do not build a toilet according to the rules and get by with an ordinary bucket placed under the toilet seat. But, one way or another, the waste needs to be disposed of somewhere, so you still can't do without a capital pit. Therefore, it is better to do all the work correctly once and not return to this issue for many years. It is especially important to make a capital structure if residents spend a significant part of the year at the dacha.

When if I do not want to spoil the design of the site by installing it, then it can be hidden in the far corner behind the house, or you can come up with a design for it that will help to organically fit the structure into the landscape.

Choosing the location of the flap and its design

Usually, the toilet is installed closer to the far border of the site, and this is understandable, since at least a slight smell will be present in this room or near it. But sometimes they use another option, arranging a cesspool next to the house, and a free corner of the house is set aside for placing a toilet, leading a wide sewer pipe into the pit. This design is mainly used in cases where water is supplied to the house, and the plans include the installation of an insulated container for collecting waste.

In any case, you should adhere to the standards established by the sanitary and epidemiological services. They must be observed in order to protect yourself, neighbors and the environment from unwanted consequences, such as infectious diseases or soil contamination.

  • If a cesspool is arranged, it must be located at a distance of at least 30 m from water sources, and its depth should not reach groundwater.
  • If a septic tank is installed, then it is located no closer than 15 m from the house.
  • If you plan to use an insulated container that will be emptied as it fills cesspool machine, then it can be installed anywhere, since the waste will not enter the ground.

An insulated tank is also a way out in cases where the groundwater does not pass too deeply and the construction of a cesspool dug in the ground is impossible.

Usually the pits of the simplest country toilet have an area of the order of one square meter. If the pit comes off round, then its diameter should be approximately 1 m. Its depth is 1.5-2 m, depending on the depth of the groundwater.

After the location for the pit has been determined, you can proceed to the choice of the design of the toilet.

  • The first thing to consider is the weight of the structure - it will largely be predetermined by the material that is planned to be used for construction. The house itself should not be too heavy, since over time, the soil under its weight may begin to sag and, in the end, the building will be deformed and damaged.

For construction, wooden blocks and boards are well suited, or thin metal - galvanized profiles and corrugated board.

If a decision is made to build a toilet booth from logs or bricks, then you will have to think about a well-fortified foundation. But building such heavy structures is completely useless, since they still will not become warmer than light buildings. It is better if there is a need for it, insulate the room with insulators that are lightweight, for example, foam. Such a building will be both light and warm, not blown out in the cold season, and it will not be excessively hot in summer.

  • Having decided on the material, you can proceed to the size of the booth.

Typically, a standard toilet is 1 m wide, 2.3 m high, and the length of the room 1.3 ÷ 1.5 m. However, these dimensions are by no means a dogma and may well vary. In any case, the room should be comfortable for any family member to be in a standing or sitting position.

What is required to build a toilet

Having decided on the design and placement of the toilet, they acquire the necessary materials for its construction. Wooden or metal "house" can be bought ready-made. If you decide to build it yourself, then you will need the following materials:

  • Planks and wooden blocks.
  • Fasteners - nails and screws.
  • Metal corners to reinforce the timber frame structure.
  • Door handle, hook or latch to close the door.
  • Roof covering material - slate or corrugated board.
  • Plastic or wooden toilet seat with lid.
  • At necessary - foamst for insulating the booth, and material for the inner cladding of insulated walls, chipboard, thin board or plywood.

For the device of a cesspool you need:

  • Cement, crushed stone, sand.
  • Reinforcement for strengthening the basement of the house.
  • A metal mesh-netting for covering the pit and metal brackets or pins for attaching this mesh to the ground.

Another option, instead of a mesh and plastering it with concrete, can be a brick, which is used to line the walls of the pit.

In addition, pits are often used for the device, which have holes in the walls. Many summer residents prefer old rubber tires of large sizes.

Another, most environmentally friendly option, can be a ready-made capacity- septic tank. They are produced in different sizes, so you can choose the one you want, depending on the number of family members and the length of the period of stay in the country.

Naturally, when building a country toilet, you cannot do without tools, so you need to have:

  • A hand drill that can help when digging a pit.
  • Shovel and bayonet shovel, with a length and a short handle.
  • If the soil is rocky, you may need a hammer drill.
  • Hammer and screwdriver.
  • Grinder - "grinder" with discs for stone and metal.
  • Electric jigsaw.
  • A marking tool - a ruler, tape measure, square, building level, pencil or marker.

Toilet classification
by type of waste disposal

Of course, they always start with marking and digging a hole. It will be square or round, depending on the design chosen.

1. If a two-chamber plastic septic tank is installed, then the pit is dug in such a way that the inlet pipe is directly in the toilet cubicle, since a toilet seat will be mounted on it. The neck of the second chamber should remain outside the room - it is needed for regular pumping of the accumulated fecal masses.

Tanks come in different shapes, and the size and shape of the pit will depend on this. The size of the pit should be made 20-30 cm larger than the existing capacity, since it is necessary to compact the soil well around it.

2. If the walls of the pit will be finished with concrete or brick, it can be made round or square.

  • After digging a hole of the required depth, at its bottom you need to arrange drainage from large rubble, stones, brick fragments
  • Then, its walls are covered with a metal mesh-chain-link with cells measuring 50 × 50 mm. The mesh is fixed by driving steel wire scoops or pins into the ground.
  • To make the walls stronger, you can additionally reinforce the walls with a metal lattice with large cells of 100 × 100 mm.
  • Further, by the method of throwing, a concrete solution is applied to the walls, which is left to dry completely. The total thickness of the concrete layer should be about 50 ÷ 80 mm.
  • After the first sketched layer has set, the walls are plastered to an even state with the same concrete mortar. The plaster hole is left to dry.
  • The pit is covered either with a finished reinforced concrete slab, or made locally. It will serve as a foundation for the toilet and a platform around it.
  • Boards are laid on the pit, which should go beyond its limits by 700 ÷ 800 mm and be sunk into the ground to the same level with the ground. Boards should be treated with antiseptic agents. It is quite possible to replace this wooden underlay with concrete posts.

  • Two holes are left on the surface for installing the toilet seat and for a cesspool, which should later be covered with a lid. Formwork is installed around the future holes.
  • A dense polyethylene film is spread over the entire area of the future foundation.
  • On top of it, a reinforcing lattice is laid, which is enclosed in formwork along the entire perimeter of the future foundation.

  • The height of the formwork of the holes must be the same as that of the formwork of the entire foundation. The formwork boards will serve as beacons when leveling the surface.
  • The concrete solution is mixed, poured onto the site, leveled and left to dry. For durability and strength of the outer concrete layer, it is possible, after initial setting, to "iron" the wet surface with dry cement.

  • After its full maturation, it will be possible to install a toilet booth on the finished platform. A hatch must be installed on the hole intended for pumping out the accumulated waste. You can buy it in the store or make it yourself. The hatch cover should be easy to open and close.

3. Another option would be a round pit with car tires stowed in it. But it should be noted that this type of cesspool is not suitable for permanent use. Such a toilet can only be used in suburban conditions, when residents come only occasionally, for example, on weekends, otherwise very often it will be necessary to pump out the collected waste.

  • For a cesspool of this type, a round pit is dug by 150 ÷ 200 mm larger than the diameter of the existing tires.
  • At the bottom of the pit, a drainage drainage layer 15–20 cm thick is laid.
  • Then, exactly in the middle of the pit, tires of one on on the other to the ground surface.
  • Around the tires, as they are laid, drainage from gravel and sand is poured and compacted. This process continues all the way to the top.
  • When the tires are fully stacked, a shallow strip foundation can be built around the pit. To do this, a trench about 500 mm deep is being dug around the perimeter of the future toilet, into which concrete will be poured.
  • Trench bottom rammed and covered with a layer of sand 50 ÷ 70 mm, which is also rammed and closed with a layer of rubble of the same thickness.
  • Dense polyethylene waterproofing is laid.
  • Then you can proceed in two ways:

- weld and install the reinforcement grid, mount the formwork with a height of 100 ÷ 150 mm above the ground level and then fill it with concrete;

- lay out the brick foundation, and then plaster it with cement.

  • After the mortar has solidified, the formwork is removed from the cement foundation, and the brick is leveled from above.
  • Roofing material is laid on its surface, which will separate the concrete surface from the wooden one.
  • A ready-made toilet structure is either installed on the foundation, or it is erected independently.

For the convenience of the construction process, a wooden base-frame made of powerful bars is fixed on the foundation from the beginning, and other structural elements will be mounted on it, depending on the chosen construction model.

4. It is impossible not to mention one more way of arranging a cesspool - with the help of metal barrels with a cut bottom. They are installed one on top of the other and in the same way as in the previous case. Around the resulting pipe, a gravel mixture or a mixture of sand and crushed stone is tamped.

A cesspool made of metal barrels - obviously won't last long

It would seem that the method is simple to execute, but it has much more disadvantages than advantages. Metal barrels under aggressive influence both from the inside and from the outside, from the side of the ground, corrode very quickly, and such a toilet will not last long.

Construction of a country toilet house

When both the pit and the site for the installation of the toilet room are ready, you can proceed to the installation of the house according to the previously drawn up scheme.

Toilet houses can have a wide variety of shapes, for example, even in the form of a fabulous hut. The uninitiated will not immediately determine what kind of room this is so perfectly fit into the landscape design of the site. Such a structure can be done with your own hands, knowing the scheme of its assembly.

The photo shows an option, partially made of logs, which give this structure a decorative effect and mask the purpose of the building itself.

The original teremok - you will not immediately understand that this is a toilet

The diagram shows the basis for the construction of a log house, only boards are used instead of logs. You can clearly see how the walls gather and the roof slopes rise. Interior space allocated and selected location toilet seat.

Approximate scheme "teremka"

The next step will be the lathing of the roof, roofing and wall cladding with the material chosen for this - this can be either wood or metal.

Such a house can be either installed on a cesspool, or used as a room for a dry closet.

Video: making a house - "teremka" for a country toilet

Another variant of the structure of the toilet, which is called a "hut". In this case, the house is built in the form of a triangle, and its side walls are at the same time a roof. The form is quite simple, so it will not be difficult to build a building.

Toilet - "hut"

This design is not only easy to build, but also easy to use - it is stable at the base and spacious enough inside.

Installation of a toilet - "hut"

The figure shows the entire internal structure of the house, the place of installation of the toilet seat and the method of lathing the walls-roof. Sheathing of the front of the building and the rear wall has begun. The "hut" house can be put on an equipped cesspool, as in this case, or it can also be used as a room for a dry closet.

This shape of the house can be called traditional, since most often it can be found on plots. But even such a simple design can be decorated according to your preference.

For example, it was decided to make a toilet in this backyard for a Japanese house. This is evidenced by the hieroglyphs written on a plate suspended on chains, a Japanese lantern at the entrance, and even an additionally arranged roof. In addition, the interior design of the premises is also designed in the general style.

Such an attitude to the design of the site suggests that even from such a structure as, you can make a small work of art if you make a little effort.

An approximate diagram of the construction of such a toilet is shown in the figure. It clearly shows the device of the cesspool, the installation of a toilet structure and a hatch on top of it for cleaning. The design is quite simple in the device, and it is not difficult to build it. But in order for it to be reliable, it is necessary to achieve the rigidity of the bonds of all parts with each other.

The inner space of the toilet, arranged above the cesspool, during the construction of the walls may look like this. That is, the base bars are installed on the foundation, on which the frame of the future structure is fixed.

After finishing the toilet from the inside, the room can have such a neat and cozy look.

If desired and opportunities can come up with another design for a country toilet, but you need to do all the interior decoration from warm materials. It is not recommended to use ceramic tiles for decoration, since this is a very cold type of material, and in addition, in winter, the tile also becomes very slippery.

Video: several options for the device of a country toilet

Dry closet

If there is no way to build a country toilet or there is simply no desire to get involved with construction work, then you can use a dry closet. This option will save you from digging a hole and, possibly, from installing a house.

Dry closet is an excellent solution for summer cottages

Is an autonomous toilet that does not require a separate room or connection to drainage lines

The dry closet consists of two compartments, chambers, the upper one of which plays the role of a toilet bowl, and the other serves for the biological processing of waste. In the second, lower chamber, there are active substances that decompose feces and turn them into a homogeneous mass that does not have an odor. The action of the bioactive liquid to decompose the waste lasts for ten days, then the chamber is cleaned by pouring the contents into the central sewer or into the soil. The method of disposal will depend on what active substances will be used in the dry closet. These substances are T rex types: composting, chemical and microorganic. Each of them is suitable for a specific type of dry closet.

  • For a composting dry closet, peat is used as an active substance. It has a high absorbency - for example, one kilogram of peat absorbs ten liters of liquid. The odorless compost obtained as a result of active processes is perfect for fertilizing the beds.

Usually, such a dry closet comes with tons of ventilation pipes that remove unpleasant odors during processing.

  • The dry closet, which is based on the use of chemicals, has an indicator that will indicate that the container needs cleaning. Waste processed in this way is discharged into the sewer in order to protect the environment. For such models, special substances with antifreeze properties are produced.
  • The third type of this useful device is a dry closet, in which microorganisms are involved in the processing of waste, turning them into compost. The resulting material is environmentally friendly and harmless to soil and animals, therefore, it will not be difficult to dispose of it.

Advantages and disadvantages of a dry closet

  • high indicators of the level of environmental safety;
  • ease of use;
  • lack of unpleasant odors;
  • affordable price;
  • durable material.

  • odor leakage is possible, installation in a ventilated area will be required;
  • if the receptacle is heavily soiled, you will have to wash it yourself.
  • it is not possible to use a peat dry closet in rooms with low temperatures. From the cold, all processing processes are stopped, the contents of the lower tank freeze, as does the peat itself. The problem is solved by transferring the dry closet to a warm room.

If desired, the dry closet can be installed in the most ordinary room, built with your own hands, which is located in the yard, and for the winter period, you can bring it into the house, taking a convenient corner for these needs.

Biological toilet products

To help the owners of summer cottages that have toilets with cesspools on their territory, special means have been developed, similar to those used in dry closets.

Before using the product, it is imperative to study the instructions, since the composition is poured or poured in parts. How to use such substances correctly, you can find out from the information on the package, since each product is dosed differently. A similar substance is used, as a rule, very sparingly. For example, one package or can of some funds is enough for a year for a cesspool with a volume of 3.5 ÷ 4 tons.

So, there are many ways to solve the problem of a country toilet - there is always an opportunity to choose one or another option.

One of the main buildings that are located on the suburban area is a toilet. If the owner of the dacha is often on the site, then it will not be possible to do without such a structure. How to build a toilet in the country with our own hands, we will analyze in our article.

It is quite possible to build such a structure on your own, but you have to make a little effort and spend your time. The most difficult stage in the design of such a structure, many consider the digging of a drain hole and its arrangement. After all, it is necessary that the toilet stall is on a solid foundation and does not collapse with the person.

Choosing the best place to build a toilet

To design such a building as a toilet, you first need to choose a suitable place and choose the type of structure. When choosing a space for creating a structure, it is advisable to take into account the convenience of the approach and sanitary standards.

An alternative, but more time consuming option is

The landscape of the territory will help to choose a suitable place for organizing construction. If the site is hilly, then it is better to dig a drain for construction at the lowest point. Thus, the foundation of the house and the well will be located above the toilet, and it will not pollute the drinking water and the basement of the house. As everyone knows, a cesspool strongly affects the quality of water and land. For this reason, it is recommended to install storage tanks in the pits, which are sealed and do not allow sewage to pass through.

Organization of a cesspool

If you need to build such a structure as a toilet in the country house with your own hands, instructions, a drawing with dimensions will help you organize this work. Often, the sewage drain for such a structure is a storage tank. It is quite easy to design such a system. But first you need to choose the right size and location. If you make a mistake, sewage will poison not only the soil, but the very life of the owner of the site.

When starting work, a lot of questions often arise on the topic of how to make a toilet in the country with your own hands, a drawing and what is the best way to dig a hole? To do this, you can use a shovel or hire an excavator. But this is not important, but the subsequent finishing of the drain. Many materials are used to construct pits. The service life of a finished building depends on the correct choice of manufacturing technology.

You need to know that sewer pits can be accumulative and filtering. Accumulative ones need frequent pumping, and filtering ones pollute the soil. In principle, pits with an insufficient tightness indicator are prohibited, but they are nevertheless constructed in summer cottages.

Do-it-yourself toilet pits in the country are constructed from:

  • bricks;
  • plastic tank;

To construct such a system from the selected material, it is necessary to dig a hole, it is better to do this with a shovel. The volume of this structure is not large, but with the help of a shovel it will be even. Thus, the process of laying bricks is facilitated. During this procedure, it is worth considering the parameters of the brick, and the layer of waterproofing. It is best to dig 20 cm wider and deeper than you need to.

When a pit for a toilet in a country house has been dug with your own hands, it must be equipped. The bottom must be tamped, covered with a layer of sand of 15 cm and also tamped tightly. Then, broken brick and a reinforcing mesh are laid on the bottom area. And it is poured with concrete, also with a layer of 15 cm. If the bottom is of a filter type, then a crushed stone layer is poured onto the sand layer.

For laying bricks, it is necessary to pour the foundation around the perimeter. Decorating the walls of the sewer drain for the toilet in the country with their own hands is carried out on half a brick. For this type of finish, it is recommended to use a silicate type brick, red is a more suitable option. A made toilet pit in the country house with your own hands from a cinder block will last longer. After the completion of the masonry, if it is decided that the pit will be airtight, then it is necessary to fill the gaps and seams with mortar or mastic, and then cover it.

If there are dimensions and a drawing of a toilet in the country with your own hands, you can organize the overlap in this way:

  • To design a floor slab, you must first fill the voids between the masonry and the ground with soil. During such manipulation, it is desirable to leave a distance of 20 cm to the top of the structure, in this gap, it is necessary to pour concrete, which will act as a reinforcement under the ceiling.
  • To prevent concrete from falling into the pit, it must be covered with sheets of metal or tin, but to make sure that the sheet does not bend in the pit, supports are installed. The solution itself is made from cement and sand. It is desirable to take cement grade 400. Kneading is done at a ratio of 1 to 3, namely 1 cement and 3 sand. If there is crushed stone, then it is better to add it, so the quality of the solution improves and it becomes more reliable. The slab is cast in one piece.

To make the slab more reliable, the site is reinforced and only then poured. To make a toilet in the country with your own hands, the drawings will help you.

When constructing a drain pit for a toilet in the country with your own hands, instructions, a drawing with dimensions should be mandatory, especially if plastic is used. It is important to consider that it is necessary to dig such a hole a little larger, about twenty centimeters on each side. The bottom is poured according to the same principle as in pits with bricks. But even during the reinforcement under the floor slab, it is necessary to make 2 loops. A tank will be attached to them in the future.

After the concrete has completely solidified, a container is lowered into the pit, and tied to the loops, which will not allow the light material to float to the surface under the influence of groundwater. Now you need to fill with earth the voids between the pit and the container itself. It will be ideal if the voids are filled with a mixture of sand and cement.

DIY toilet cubicle construction

Today, modern installations for natural needs look different from those that were used earlier. Drawings will help everyone, even an inexperienced builder, to make a toilet in the country with their own hands.

But before starting the design, it is necessary to solve the problems of choosing a drainage system, determine the location of the booth, choose the type of toilet and deal with the decorative design.

When the required site is selected, you need to decide which species is more suitable for the requirements. Such structures are being constructed, made of brick and wood. From the materials you must have:

  • timber 100x50 and 50x50;
  • insulating materials;
  • lining;
  • door, awnings, latch and similar fittings;
  • roofing material.

Of the tools you need:

  • shovel;
  • hammer;
  • screwdriver or bit for a drill;
  • drill, electric jigsaw, or hacksaw.

Natural ventilation. This ventilation is based on a natural process. Warm air is lighter and rises, while cold air settles to the bottom. To organize such ventilation, you need to design an opening in the upper part of the booth.

  • Forced ventilation. Removal of unpleasant odors in this case takes place with the help of a device that creates artificial traction.

Which ventilation system is more suitable for the owner of the summer cottage is up to him. All types have their advantages and disadvantages, and it is advisable to take them into account before the start of design. If you need to save money, then the natural look of the hoods is ideal. But in this case, it is necessary to correctly calculate the data and organize it in compliance with the rules and regulations. Such a system is in many ways inferior to forced ventilation.

The main advantages of forced ventilation:

  • high-quality traction;
  • uniform pulling force;
  • the same efficiency.

Note the fact that if there is low pressure outside, natural ventilation practically does not work.

Ready-made toilet cubicles in the country

Among modern summer residents, the so-called standard options are popular. They look like miniature houses, the design of which is based on wood and drain tanks. Recently, bio-type toilets have appeared. Having installed such a toilet, there is no need to create sewage pits, but it is still necessary to build the booth itself.

To make a toilet in the country with your own hands, the drawing is selected individually, of course, if the owner wants an exclusive design. The drawing should indicate what material is required for the construction process and how much is needed, the dimensions of the structure, its location and other nuances.

If you do not want to spend time building a toilet in the country with your own hands, instructions, a drawing with dimensions in finished form is always useful in such situations.

In the case of making a project, it is important not to forget the fact that the part of the toilet located in front must necessarily be higher than the wall located at the back. During bad weather conditions, the water will flow back and you will not drip on your head when entering the booth.

In a situation where the owner decides to make a wooden roof overlap, in the project, you need to make all the calculations that relate to the organization of a wooden ceiling and it is advisable to supplement it with the dimensions of the roofing material. Upon completion of the design, it is recommended to summarize the amount of material required and determine the total cost of the toilet.

Approximate diagram and design parameters for the work:

  • the manufacture of the frame is carried out from a bar, and a board is also used;
  • the finished structure must have parameters: no more than two meters from the foundation in height, at least one and a half meters in width, you can more accurately find out the dimensions on a similar drawing;
  • the parts on the back and front are rectangular, but the side parts are trapezoidal, due to which it is possible to achieve a slope for water drainage during rain or snow melting;
  • so that natural light enters the room, and the booth is ventilated, a window is cut out in the upper part of the wall located on the side;
  • over the sewer pit, the overlap is organized from 5 cm thick boards and sheathed with sheet wooden material;
  • the overlap according to the presented drawing is installed on a base made of timber, the cross-section of which is 150 by 150 mm and is fixed with nails.
  • to increase the strength of the connection on the boards, grooves and protrusions were made in advance;
  • as indicated in the drawing, the doorway for such a structure should have a height of up to two meters and a width of up to a meter, this element is made from edged boards and sheathed with OSB;
  • door fastening is carried out vertically installed timber 150x150 mm;
  • for the construction of the roof on the structure, rafters are installed, made of boards 10 cm wide and 5 cm thick, at a distance of 40 cm from each other.
  • to carry out high-quality fixation of the material used, nails are used, and as a coating on top, you can put profile-type sheets.

If you take a ready-made plan to design your building according to it, then all the notes can be modified according to the preference of the owner.

If the toilet is made of wooden material, then during the resizing on the finished plan, strict proportionality must be observed. In this case, more materials will be required and the cost of the structure will increase.

Video instruction

With a little imagination and perseverance in the process of creating a scheme, you can create not a simple toilet on the territory, but an original and effective addition to the entire site that can decorate it. To understand clearly what technology is used to create a toilet, check out the video on this topic presented above.

A toilet in the country is an integral part of comfort, full-fledged existence. When purchasing an absolutely clean piece of land, the first thing we install is this structure. This is not only natural, but even necessary. The construction of this building does not require any special projects. Anyone who is even a little friends with carpentry tools can build a country toilet with their own hands. Let's take a closer look at this process step by step. Now there are many modern alternatives to a stationary structure, some of which we will also discuss below.

At the dacha, you can do without many convenient, important structures: a shed, a swimming pool, a cellar, a barbecue oven, but without a toilet - nothing.

There are many factors to consider when getting started. The most important thing is sanitary and hygienic standards. Your toilet should not create inconvenience to neighbors, therefore, the location of the building, the competent arrangement of the cesspool, ventilation should be worked out even during the design.

Country toilet, photo:

The equipment of the cesspool, the method of cleaning it is also an important nuance, which directly depends on the flow of groundwater. If the underground waters are located high, then you will have to look for alternative options, since you cannot make a hole. With low groundwater flow, the pit must be extremely tight.

Country toilet - design options

The simplest, most common option is a wooden restroom. Even a beginner can build it, it will come out inexpensive in terms of the cost of building materials. If desired, this design can be easily transferred. For sheathing the frame, a board, lining, chipboard sheets are used, if you have imagination, sometimes pretty nice options are obtained. The simplest, cheapest option is a closet made of wooden boards.

Design, photo:

A more solid structure of metal sheets is erected in two ways.

The first option - the same wooden frame is sheathed with sheets, in the second - the base of the frame is made of metal pipes, to which sheets of iron or slate are subsequently attached. The shaded part of the site is the best place for such a toilet, since in the summer the sun will heat the metal, giving you discomfort when visiting. From the inside, such a building can be sheathed with polystyrene or expanded polystyrene.

A stationary brick building will require more time to build, as well as the availability of building skills from the developer. Here you need to think in detail about ways to clean the cesspool, the possibility of a convenient access (for example, a sewer truck) to the building.

A summer cottage toilet of the "Backlash-closet" type does not differ significantly from the stationary version; the whole feature is the construction of a cesspool. Moreover, its walls, the bottom must be sealed, and it itself must have an elongated shape.

This feature will improve the optimization of the waste disposal process, more convenient installation of sewer hoses. A significant “minus” of the “Luft-closet” latrines is the impossibility of using them during the winter.

The peat country toilet belongs to the alternative options for closets. In this case, the waste is immediately sprinkled with peat, and when the sewer tank is full, it is taken out, the processed contents are removed. More details about the operational functions of peat toilets will be written below.

Requirements for the construction of a country toilet

There are many nuances associated with the construction of a latrine, you need to take into account the direction of the winds, the possibility of an unobstructed access of a sewage truck to the building, the distance from the cesspool to the point with water (no more than 25 meters). If there are other buildings nearby, the distance from them to the toilet should be at least 5 meters. Often, closets are installed at a distance. But so that the border of the neighboring fence is at least 1 meter. Make sure that neighbors cannot see anything when you open the toilet door.

A country toilet with a cesspool is a solid structure that should be relatively spacious. The most common, comfortable building options are the "birdhouse" and "hut". If you want a place to turn around, the birdhouse type will suit you.

If we consider the building from the point of view of the impact of atmospheric precipitation, then the "hut" type wins here.

The whole "attack" of rains and snow will fall on the roof, which at the "hut" reaches almost the level of the ground, while the walls will remain dry.

Both types of buildings allow you to equip a country toilet without a cesspool, placing a removable tank at the base of the building or not far from it, where waste will be collected. This can be a welded metal container, a special bucket, a suitable plastic tank or a wooden tank with peat, turf, sand. The presence of a foundation is preferable for any type of building.

A cesspool is the main element of a country toilet, in order to determine its volume, you should know that with constant use, about 50-60 liters should be allocated per person (according to the calculation - 3 months). As mentioned above, it must be airtight so that sewage does not come into contact with the aquifers of the soil. A well-equipped clay castle (20-30 cm thick) around the pit is an essential requirement when building a country toilet.

We build a toilet in a summer cottage with our own hands

If this is your first time building a toilet, then take into account that it is the wooden structure that is easiest to build. Wood is a relatively inexpensive building material, it is easy to work with, it retains heat well, and is environmentally friendly. Let's take a closer look at this option. To equip the frame, you will need wooden blocks, a 40 × 40 section (or slightly more) is optimal. Choose the cladding material to your liking: a lining, a standard board or even a block house will look quite appropriate. The roof can be covered with ondulin, slate, roofing felt.

Base, frame of the future toilet, photo:

To build a lavatory of the "birdhouse" type, you can use a standard drawing, or you can connect your imagination, develop your own individual version. Typical dimensions of a country toilet: rear wall - 2 meters, facade - 2.30 m, the width of the building must be at least 1 meter, the roof is single-pitched, the presence of a cesspool, the base is at least 1 × 1 m.

Building materials that you will need: solid sand-cement blocks, wooden beams, sand, boards, lining (sheathing), roofing material. You will also need chipped brick, shaped steel sheet, paint or varnish, door block, hinges, handle, latches, nails. To equip the frame, it is preferable to choose an edged board made of hard wood (for example, larch, beech), stock up on metal corners, self-tapping screws.

Country toilet, stages of work:

  1. First of all, we proceed to the cesspool, its approximate parameters should be at least 1: 1: 2 m, the dimensions of the cesspool determine the dimensions of the structure itself. We cover the bottom of the pit with chipped bricks or coarse gravel.
  2. Sand-cement blocks (they can be replaced with a concrete curb) will be the foundation. We install them in the corners of the pit - this is the base of the future frame.
  3. Roofing material on the blocks, about 4 layers - this is the necessary waterproofing.
  4. The wooden frame consists of 4 bearing supports (vertical). The bars, which are laid longitudinally, should extend beyond the boundaries of the closet body by about 35-40 cm. The protruding part in the front is the future visor, the part in the back is the drainage of precipitation from the wall of the building. The strapping is done at the level of the place where the toilet will be installed. The height of the toilet seat should be comfortable - 40-45 cm from the floor.
  5. For greater strength of the frame, we establish diagonal stiffening ties on the back wall, as well as on the side walls of the closet.
  6. The frame of the door block consists of two vertically installed supports with a horizontal lintel at the top.
  7. We sheathe the frame with the selected material, lay a board on the floor (at least 4 cm thick).
  8. We cut a hole in the floor of the appropriate size, the shape can be any.
  9. We install a door block with a door, cut out a window if desired.

The device of a country toilet with a cesspool implies a well-equipped ventilation system. It is important that unpleasant odors do not stagnate from the pit, they come out freely. The drain pipe can be made of any material, but its diameter must be at least 10 cm. Holes of the appropriate size must be cut in the toilet pedestal, like on the roof. The upper end of the pipe must rise above the roof of the building by at least 20 cm. The distances between the pipe and the cutout must be carefully sealed; a ventilation deflector must be installed on the upper pipe outlet (it creates a draft). Inside, the building can be sheathed with expanded polystyrene or any other suitable facing material.

Country toilet - cleaning the cesspool

There is no such person who would feel comfortable inhaling unpleasant odors. A street (country) closet, of course, cannot be a source of pleasant aromas, but advanced biotechnology successfully cope with this problem. Today, there are special chemicals that not only block unpleasant odors, but convert waste into liquid, oxygen, carbon dioxide.

Many summer residents do not have correct information regarding these chemicals, believing that chemicals can harm the environment and plants. This is not so - high-quality biological products (such as "Vodogray") are absolutely harmless to human health, ecology (confirmed by ISO-9002).

Separately, it is worth mentioning biogranules - a very convenient, necessary invention. Biogranules for toilets with a cesspool - the reviews are extremely positive, since their microbiological composition includes enzymes, non-pathological bacteria. Biogranules are harmless to the environment, human and animal health, they were awarded the 2001 international medal "Environmentally friendly products".

This tool destroys bad odors, decomposes feces, toilet paper, while waste products are quickly processed, becoming a cloudy, odorless liquid. This liquid can then be safely poured out, for example, under a tree or other convenient place. The use of bio-granules solves the problem with cleaning, pumping out sewage: they not only process the contents of the cesspool, but also reduce its volume at the end of the process.

Before use, water should be poured into the cesspool, and then the drug should be added according to the attached instructions. Every 7 days, add water, add one sachet of biogranules (25 g). If the cesspool contains a lot of liquid, then you can fill up several bags at once. In the second case, the drug is pre-mixed with water, and then poured into the pit. It is worth considering that if you used to fill it with bleach before, then ordinary bio-granules will not work - such an environment will destroy them. For these cases, there is a special type of drug - "Septic-biogranules".

Two or three days after adding the product, a kind of film forms on top of the waste, which, as it were, "preserves" an unpleasant smell inside. This is followed by the decomposition process, which can slow down if your cesspool is simply dug, that is, not lined with bricks, not protected in any way. However, a positive result will be anyway. If you want you to have an odorless country toilet, then choose organic granules - an environmentally friendly product.

Toilet for a country toilet - which one to choose

The toilet is comfort, convenience. Often in country restrooms, you can see ordinary ceramic toilet seats, the same ones that are installed in city apartments. This is the wrong choice, as most toilet models have a curved flush direction. In this case, the waste is washed off with a large amount of water, so this configuration is acceptable. A toilet for a country toilet, on the other hand, must have a direct "exit" so that the contents can be freely sent inside the cesspool. In addition, ceramic toilets are very heavy, which is also not very convenient for a country closet.

A special plastic toilet bowl will be an excellent alternative for the summer cottage. It has a low weight, performs all the necessary functions, it does not have a bent "exit", it is designed specifically for such street buildings. A country toilet made of durable plastic is relatively inexpensive. The models are quite diverse.

If we strive for comfort, then we need to take into account all the nuances, all the little things. Such a nice little thing, especially necessary in winter, is a warm toilet seat. It is not very comfortable to visit an outdoor toilet in winter, and it is also not good for health. The seat is exactly the part that comes into direct contact with our body. The plastic seat keeps the cold well, which distinguishes it from the thermal seat made of expanded polypropylene.

The warm seat for a country toilet fits any street closet or toilet. The product is made of hygienic material that retains heat even in severe frost. This invention comes from Finland, and the Finns are known to be able to fight the cold. It is very easy to install, it does not absorb moisture, it is easy to care for and it is weather resistant. The product has a modern exterior design, with a cover made of the same material. The thermal seat for country toilets is made of an analogue of polystyrene, therefore it is absolutely harmless to human health and the environment.

Peat toilet - an alternative to the usual

Anyone can equip such an innovation at their dacha, since such latrines do not imply the presence of a cesspool. This option is great when a stationary building cannot be installed (high groundwater flow). These buildings are characterized by a simplified design - you do not need much time or effort to install everything. We are talking about peat toilets - an innovation that has appeared relatively recently, but has already managed to positively recommend itself among summer residents.

Peat closet, photo:

Models of peat closets have an aesthetically pleasing design, but if you wish, you can "simplify" this device. A removable container is installed under an ordinary country toilet with a toilet bowl without a cesspool, and a bucket with peat filler is placed next to the toilet seat. He did his job, reached out to a bucket of peat, scooped up the peat mixture with a special scoop, poured it inside the toilet bowl - this is the whole process.

The principle of operation of such a device is to convert sewage into compost (biodegradation) due to the action of active ingredients. In peat dry closets, this role is played by peat or peat mixture. There is a peat box near the toilet. After the sewage gets inside the corresponding tank, they are sprinkled on top with this filler.

Branded peat toilets are equipped with a special dispenser installed near the upper tank for peat mixture. This is a very convenient device: you pull the handle, a kind of "flushing" occurs - the peat dose is directed downward, filling the waste. From this point on, the fecal decay begins, the absorption of liquid, due to which the unpleasant odor is blocked. When the container is full, it can be easily emptied, since all waste by this time will have already been recycled and become fertilizers.

These devices require simple maintenance: sewage is removed from the storage tank, the tank itself is washed, a new portion of peat substrate is added, and the toilet is ready for use again. You can buy a ready-made set of such a closet, or you can install a wooden structure (as described above) or just put a ready-made plastic country toilet (you can buy used dry closets at a low price). You just have to put a toilet bowl with a removable cistern for collecting sewage inside the "box" and periodically clean it.

When the storage tank is one third full, it is recommended to empty it. Processed waste is best stored inside the composter, after a while you use it as fertilizer for your garden.

Peat toilet for a summer residence - which is better?

When buying a product, pay attention to the following characteristics:

  1. Product dimensions - you should be comfortable using it (the height of the toilet seat is important), the entire device should fit into the booth proportionally.
  2. The storage capacity should not be too large or too small. Consider the number of people, the frequency of using the toilet.
  3. If the toilet is used by two people, then a too large tank will have to be emptied half empty (the waste should not stay inside the container for a long time).
  4. Consider the load on the toilet seat, strength, material thickness should depend on the weight of the heaviest user.

As for the manufacturers of peat toilets, the most positive reviews were given to the products of the Russian firms "Compact-ECO", "Piteco", Finnish country peat toilets "Ekomatic L&T", "Biolan Komplet", Swedish composting bio-closets "Mulltoa". Prices vary - they depend on the quality, from the manufacturer. It is not worth saving on such a necessary matter as a toilet - good equipment will serve your family for more than a dozen years, and this is a weighty reason.

Whichever type of closet you choose, the main thing is that it is convenient for you to use it so that the neighbors do not complain. How to build a country toilet with your own hands step by step, how to equip a "dry" peat closet, what the sanitary requirements for the construction of this building should be - you now know, which means you can tell other summer residents about it.
